"Up a bit now It's 82° in Silver Spring 82 at fort belvoir mostly sunny and 76° outside WTO P studios At 1141 the district's handling of almost half a $1 billion worth of pandemic era emergency contracts is coming under intense scrutiny now a new report by the city's inspector general says the district may have exposed itself to fraud The report points to high risk contracting practices relaxing limits on advanced purchases increasing the possibility that some of the payments weren't related to the pandemic not putting enough controls in place to make sure that goods and services were actually received and the city didn't overpay for them and not establishing sound practices to effectively track and safeguard supplies they bought This report is not an audit And it was a little difficult to distill that but it's not an audit D.C. assistant city administrator Lindsay Parker speaking on behalf of the Bowser administration downplayed the report and says the city successfully acquired supplies during an unprecedented time She points to fema reimbursing the city for much of what it spent as proof Because we put in place those controls because we put in place those safeguards The IG says his office will be drilling down on those findings in future audits Shayna steel and WTO P news Millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses have been ordered for kids under 5 in anticipation of possible federal authorization of the shots in the coming days The federal government allowed states and pharmacies to start placing orders last week and 5 million doses were made available Children under 5 are the last group of Americans who haven't been recommended to get the COVID shot If the government does give the green light on that up to 20 million kids under 5 would be eligible Thousands of COVID test sites have popped up on sidewalks across Beijing and other Chinese cities as officials say they want everyone to be within a 15 minute walk of a testing site Many cities in China require people to show a negative test within three days before entering a public place Take a bus or getting on the subway The tests are free and results are sent to the person's smartphone health app within about 12 hours Iran may have removed UN surveillance cameras from nuclear sites It's 1143.
