"Let related we cannot trust anybody. A lot of people trying to get what dollars. An interesting thing is evan. People walkways cannot trust in. So it's very sad but it's a way to do it otherwise we can just to stop on the quit. Mata not not quitting anything l. a. people are going to get games on. I think it's a good game. I mean maybe not the best game seeks capable agendas and the yes What's crazy is at the mall. The mall delays more that seeings mall traumatic. Gets people complain about the game day. It's the same thing like why you would try to mess with us And then complete the same time you get your game. Let the people. I don't know it's an interesting thing in that you know we've we've spoken to people who whose games have gotten Less than stellar reviews. Or who have had some controversy surrounding them a lot of them just kind of pack it in and and and and storm off. And you're not you're not taking that approach. You are still. You're pushing through and you know because because most of the battery views are not from not from people that are are are genuine. You know there there could be could be yes. I i is littered understandings at the game would get a. I'd say it's not the best game of sent twenty one. That's shop but most of the game so most of the reviews have nothing to do with the gameplay specifically it's it's other stuff surrounding the game it's nonsense it's right. Yeah so the problem is that i try to make good. Game falls a genesis. Don't care about anything else. Fraternity with two with appears fall on the switch. Usually i prefer to wait folding chairs. The thing is that many people do review of the game based on the comparison with the. I don't know what cannot game like street rich off. i'm not doing street of each form as say I keep saying that people maybe should raise a game They should accept. The game is like this is because the some people say again play is survey..

"I'm more likely to respond to it. You know it is a copy and paste the email into the notes field why that dogs both of our memories. Like if you're out there like have you ever had to do things like run run a survey or like Do user testing or any of that stuff. You're repeating the same task over and over with different people. How in the hell would you remember. Who's who and what's what well one check learn from a friend janice that sounds like a spreadsheet to me if there's a process of like a publishing style process that has six parts with dates and progress. That's a calendar thing but it's also very much a spreadsheet thing the calendar is where you nailed down. What's happening but then spreadsheet where that data would go. I would not store that in that notes field but somebody talk about a gig or someone wants to talk about. You know whatever it is. Maybe you're hiring somebody for something. Gosh just really treat both of you so well. By putting so much information into notes include again including they would need to know so we. We offered a test last week or a sort of a mental mental model or a question to ask yourself which is sort of an introduction to the partway through part of the introduction. Last week about calendars. I said well. I started asking yourself not simply win. Will i need to know this. Or how will. I need to know this. Like what kind of alert do i want. What happens if this what happens. If i miss this alert where the consequences of missing that alert and i think that becomes a very interesting way to not just think about prioritization. And what you do but to the derive a smarter model. Not all beeps created equal. Like my watch only makes a couple sounds. It's crazy frustrating. So i i know what a text alert sounds like an i know what a non text notification sounds like but i might miss a bunch of stuff. I'm not like riding on my watch. Real hard rock so in the same way that suggesting you think about what happens. If i miss this notification i think another to ask yourself here is like if i've decided that like a calendar is where this goes. Calendar is the good place for this. It does really help to do some project based outcome thinking like. We're having this meeting because x. In order to accomplish that we will need to do why and the completely foreseeable follow up for. This will be z. Now not all of that goes in the calendar event but it needs to go somewhere. Because you're good salaryman and you need to. You need to handle all that stuff running along. I think trying to minimize ambiguity. I was tempted to say something. Like let people know how you roll with. How you do the calendar But i'm gonna put differently and hopefully in a kinder way which is like you know. Be the change. You want to see in the calendar. Think andy said that. I'm not saying you should be like merlin and browbeat everybody about about a better best practices But i i do think like you can teach by example in the same way that the ultimate teach by example in some ways is being on time for things i feel like that is a tiny little moan add of of culture and socialization is like. Oh you know. Suddenly i noticed that. I'm not on time for meetings more often than other people who are on time for meetings. I should probably be better about that. So lead by example write better emails. Do better google count. I mean. I can't tell you dan how much i want. To put this positivity how much my credibility the credibility i feel for a particular person. goes through the roof if they do this kind of stuff. Yeah i might feel fairly neutral sort of inert about them. Not doing these things again. Not going should be the please me but like you don't need account and scrape and say i really like that one. I don't care like let me see it in what you do if you don't miss. Don't mistreat the waitress and don't send shitty calendar things. Just don't do it. You know what i mean. It says a lot about it. Says you don't value your own time. So why in the christ would you ever value mine For december first impression so the handshake. How's the handshake is too tight. Isn't exactly to block too strong. Tesco calendar sets notes nets new oilfield. Descend big you ity. Yeah mish everything on there is a deal with yourself that you refuse to break unless you need to Because that's where you find. Were the big rocks in. The road are Do think people got their money's worth today. You have more than that eighteen minutes extra who. Oh do have a hard time. No i'm saying they did. Their money's worth right now. Why are seventy eight minutes into this. They better be seventy eight. Okay okay. well let's see. We got was twenty ninth. Yeah people have you can hit us up on something if you have questions or comments but mostly just just for questions if you want know about rabbit rabbit just you know. Just keep it and things on the internet until we talk back ring ring ring for a long time. You know because we're not near the front door you know what i'm saying. It's really it's always loud with the shop vac on so.

"Well i'm gonna try and get down to the tactical level of like it's really important guys. It's really important. What you name things. It's really important that you be complete about things on your calendar all that really really boring stuff. But like don't don't leave yourself till turn your career into a series of puzzles. Like why do that if you have to be somewhere on a date if to be more on the planet doing something at a specific time on the six one six time line and if that thing will die if it doesn't happen guess what. That's a really good candidate for being on your calendar if it's something you're like thinking thinking about thinking about if you don't know does that go as an eight hour brainstorm thing item on your calendar and that's probably how you name it. Because why not right now. That is so ambiguous why that the calendar is the final destination before existence. It's not the it's not a big fluffy cloud that you mix your existential butter into Now it's getting the stuff accomplished treated like Contract-related sacred treat it like it matters. And then be unambiguous about how you phrase and what does that look like. It's analogous to a good subject line in an email. You can ill-afford anything but a great subject. Line when you're writing an email if you actually want to have success in the world right but with your family it needs to be something where people can eighty percent of. What the messages from the subject line. Oh it's too complicated for that. Well then it probably shouldn't be an email dude. That's crazy Request for meeting that kind of thing. Instead i think hug in advice such as it is cannot be useful if you try to make it. Apply to everybody for all times. That's not that's not advice. That pap okay. So i'm gonna be giving you some fairly pointed editorial piece. Oh v on this because anything else would be bunkum. Embiid used about your subject lines and email and guess what you want to be unambiguous every aspect of what goes on your counter especially if other people need to see it right and make decisions in the in your absence about what that event means. That could be an assistant. That could be a boss right like like when you commenting code coming encounters. I understand are documenting. Code is not just a way for you to remember how this thing works or why you did it. This way that one time in april. It's also way for somebody else. Correct wait for somebody else to look at your code and not need to interact with you. In order to coach speak for itself into the can't speak for itself there's documentation is. Isn't that kind of the ideas for other people. It's not necessarily for you right right. So can a person looking at your calendar whether it's because they're insistent robust or whether it's because there's somebody who's participating in this shared event can they glean almost everything they will need to know about this event from the way that you have put it onto the calendar and you're probably thinking of course i'm good at this. I'm good salaryman. We'll know like really. Let's go into this though like. Is there a muscular verb or like incredibly unambiguous now or very muscular verb somewhere in the event you know. Most events are nouns but then but there can also be verbs in their. If it's something that's helpful we'll get more on this in a second but like pick it really clear and unambiguous right. I mean the date is included in a calendar item. So you don't need to add extra stuff. Don't i mean unless you makes you happy. You don't need to say tuesday staff meeting if they know it's tuesday and its staff meeting like what's going to happen at staff meeting where we meet with the staff okay. But the meeting was successful when what happens. Oh how the staff meeting. Anyway see a cake in the conference room now. Maybe that goes in a note. Maybe that goes an attached document. What do people need to prep for. What is the what is the. Why are we doing this. Who else will be there. What do i need to prepare. Where is it you know in terms like do. I need to be physically somewhere. Is there an updated correct link with the password for whatever i need to know to get logged into this and don't just don't assume that everybody has all the same domain equipment that you do like if you're asking them to be on some wackadoo podcasting apps and only runs in chrome. I'll thank you. What a what a pleasure to be here if you if you need them to be set up on that wackadoo app and make sure that like the kind of who deleted chrome from all of your machines wall. Let brother know. Don't assume that. I know what a bomb bastard is. What is bombast. Oh it's a completely you know it's a it runs in and silver light you know and You put on chrome yeah. I don't have that. Oh i guess. I should've mentioned that in the calendar event right this ambiguous. Yeah you should be able to act like they're time matters. Act like your time matters. Put it all in there. And i'm having fun with this but you know there's stephen the what i would consider the very basic stuff like if spence won't do and i know if seems weird creepy people but somebody's about something in particular somebody pro made well wants to me and they'll send me Usually good short email. That's how you know..

"Which is you can have factors by. Which certain calendars on mac like pop up. Okay so you can hand. It's good so the menu. The is called automatically activate at cohen and based on a time or a location you can have your calendar counter set change. That's really cool right so like if your laptop. They like you're at coffee shop. You could have based on this location at this time of day. Bring up these calendars. But you know i guess. Maybe i'm trying to be a little too subtle here. But i don't think you need to see all your calendars all the time. Unless you do in which case go for it. But i think that's a nice starting point is that gives you the opportunity to become more aware. This is a tool that affords you an interesting opportunity which is like. Do you want to see some of these things. Some of these places and it isn't just a cool cute thing you flip on doesn't because you bought it it enables you to say like oh. Is there a better way. That i can choose to have this information presented to me and i think sounds corny but like i think when an app does that well i suppose great that it addresses the needs of people who have complex needs for that stuff. But it's also that now that if you're a self aware intelligent person you know how the opportunity to rethink knowing what the tool can do. Start looking for serendipitous moments of improvement. I think that's really cool that it does that. Got all the stuff got weather. It's got all the things it does. All of this though in a really pretty and fairly streamlined package. It doesn't feel garish. If it does start to feel garish. That's probably your fault because you can always turn off. Oh i don't want to see that it's partly cloudy. I don't wanna see the temperature. I don't wanna see a second time zone discovered that that's really cool. You can always say like in my case i always see civic. Time is my default but it also shows me on the right it also shows me eastern time which can be surprisingly handy great What else was going to say about fantastic allen particular and no competition. No whatever you should try the ones that work for you. But the ones i after years of playing with almost all the calendar apps the ones that still really land for me are Are fantastic. how and now they have card hop which is there really cool contact program and then You know this is a little bit like i. Don't know vm. Actually now it's not like that at all but didn't like i say also busy count makes great stuff was called busy. Mac is the company and so that they may be busy busy. Mac and for those of you. The real heads no. That's john and the team that did now up to date and now context in the nineties seemed to a lot of the same people or at least it was a lot of the same people. But yeah i ran into. I saw john mac world and he's like you know we talked about now today. Donald war now today was one of the great apps. Dan dan dan dan card hop but fantastico people by flexi bits card up finally has brought back something in a kind of inform away but a way of saying. Show me everybody who works at five by five. Show everybody who works at apple. Like everybody in my contacts can just point out. I wanna see nineteen ninety four. Maybe ninety six point is in the mid nineties now. Contacts had semantic companies in the mid ninety s. if. I said that this company is apple computer and i always talk to the same way it would know. Show me everybody who works at apple computer. Like how do we not have that everywhere in the year of our lord. Twenty twenty one bananas to me. One of the it be like say. Oh yeah we plan to add phone numbers in a future release. Were pretty excited about that. Next dot released. We're going to add phone numbers. And and maybe email addresses company samantha companies. Look it up. And then i wanted to give some inspiring just minutes sparring tips before rebounds. Just real quick easy obvious. Merle calendar focused tips. Hundred focus is there anything else you want to pop in with. No good keep going. I think this is obviously very influenced. The influence really driven by david allen's thinking on a lot of this stuff. I think some of his most sort of under the radar first round classic. Thinking is actually about calendars. It's not just about making to to do list. It's about doing your to do list. People leave out that part but but his calendar stuff david allen from getting things done and it has some really calendar vice and i. It's become really really important for me. But yeah these concepts. Gt that everybody whizzes. Past on their way to like. How do i feel less crazy by the weekend. Well you become less crazy by the weekend by like actually learning the kind of philosophy behind why this stuff works. And i guess there's a there's a super pattern gt. And i think there should be a superpower in life which is about dissimulation to put the way david talks about in the book is like you shouldn't have to think all the time to do your work if you work requires thinking if a task requires thinking that's great but you shouldn't have to think a bow your work all the time. You should be doing your work if you're thinking about your work often than you would like if you find your thinking a ratio of thinking about you're doing your work is not where you'd like to be. There are ways to improve that now. Is that a silly like solipsism. It's really super not. Because when i say thinking about your work thinking about your work and there's thinking about your work as peter drucker said sixty years ago knowledge. Work is not only about doing a thing. It's about deciding what needs to be right so that kind of thinking of like you deciding how to apply some kind of librarian this situation or whatever it is that you're gonna do. Yeah there's thinking what i'm talking about is like do you really need to be figuring out your job. Like quad job. Do you want to be doing that six times a day if you do. That's cool but what i'm saying is if you follow to a more. Gd path ambiguous. You you really over a of the completely bs holes in your career that you have just decided by fiat are. Because you're big important salaryman like your life is complicated. So you have to there all day long and i'm being mean on purpose because grow up. You don't need to think about your work as much as you think. And you can improve on that by Patterns of disembarkation. You stop fooling yourself and acting like is because you're worlds more complicated than anyone else. It's not make earlier faster front end decisions about stuff like you'll never feel bad about procrastinating on a task. If you've never had agreed to that in the first place because you knew you'd never do it. Well that's cheating damn right. It's cheating like david says like i. I like being lazy. I would prefer to be lazy. If i'm doing things that require me to be anything but lazy. I'm not going to be performing optimally. Why would i continue to bear the burden of an incredible amount of unnecessary. If i could find a way to do less of that because in some ways the ultimate this ambiguous is knowing what your job is if you know what your job is if you know what needs to be done like you're never gonna you're not selling you're never going to lack confidence but you're gonna develop more confidence and a feeling of competence if you descend big. And what do i mean by that..

"We've heard about the big target areas for the thing you're likely to hit etc etc right like you can try and like i like to say do you. Do you wanna do. You wanna be writer. Do you wanna be happy like if you wanna be happy. Just let the iphone do the heavy lifting. If you wanna be happy fantastic. Do its thing for you. You know learned to stop worrying and love. Love the bomb saying something. I love about this. I do the preferences. I get such strong. I or one of the first or second things. I noticed in an app usually is like how i feel about looking at the preferences or like you know the thing we're like this is understandable looking for some of my friends like scratching each apps but when something especially that you like paid money for and you gotta help. Yeah i was looking preferences and how you pop up. Help help us not available for name of that. And you're like oh really seems like help should be available for name of that. You know documentation. Is everything. Like i i would kill right now. Really good. documentation on the irs. Home plus app. It's so powerful. But you really gotta figure so much stuff out on your own you know what is what is heartbeat mean on a smart home device night right. I looked it up. And i still don't understand but it's in. There is a feature things. I love both fantastic how it works across the platforms. It has the apple logging thing. So if you get an account you pay for an account and like you can just use your that cool ass applied the sign in thing. If you really like is really great is templates so templates are where you can say like. There's a certain kind of event that i am going to be using fairly off. And maybe something like your staff meeting. Or maybe something. Like go to your. Why would you want that if you can just type. Well yes but like. If you're like me you're weird. I liked to use. This is a fairly recent thing. I guess someone. Obviously i let you have emoji in my events so like you know one of them is one of my templates. His suv steak. And it's got a little red stake in there like a little human heart. Ironically enough not not a human heart but you know bovine heart. It's the heart of the bovine. Which is steak mu steer steer not a cow anyways. So that's in there. And i got a stake emoji but tempering means that like you remember several things about it like intelligently remember how long the event was calendar is going so fast that little plus button up at the top here on the mackinac does that. I also. this is not a new thing. But i love the way fantastical does are these are calendar sets. I want to say And the pull this up. So let's say you are one of those people who. I don't know if you have so many calendars that you need. Calendar sets well. I hope those aren't all your calendar because you have too many calendars you have more than three or four. Five calendars for yourself. Okay if that works for you. That's great i think. This is probably most useful for management types who are subscribed to many people's calendars or like team calendars and that kind of thing. Does that sound about right. Yeah i think so. But there's a real power in being able to customize such back to work thing and having some ability to to make decisions in life about how you want things presented and under what certain context things can happen a passing. This is something that busy. Calvin good out for a good long while And i think fantastic how is getting better at is that you say okay for example. Let's go with the easiest one in the world which is like okay. Show my this kind of neanderthal. You wanna see. I wanna see my home calendar stuff when i'm at home right so i need to pull that up or like whenever i go to the office. I don't want to see the home stuff. Because apparently part of my life just ceases to exist. If i can't see it hi dad. I don't have object object permanence but that's smart right like let's say you're in a mode. Here's a really obvious. Which is that. You're you're at your job your job and you're in a certain mode one of your modes might be kind of monkey man scheduling mode if you're among scheduling mode. You need a way to look at all of these kinds of things and then even filtered and sorted in a way that sensible to you maybe. This is a list view not as a block. Calendar thing. and it's really good at doing that and you get to do stuff all the usual like great stuff. That and i realized not all of this is new but i don't know if y'all know that all this stuff exists like did you know that in every cable if you can't get on your calendar get a different calendar for example you could say like. Don't show me alerts from this calendar so if you've if you're in one of those godforsaken things where you're like somebody just got. You subscribe to something from work or school or whatever. Yeah you flip a bit. I mean for me. I'll make that a real light. You know like a nickel nine nine nine c. c. or whatever i'll make like not real garish all make it a smaller type size but like very much. I will say no please. Just because i was subscribed to the warriors calendar for one season. Like every i don't need to blue pts for every basketball game in or out of town. So i did eventually get rid of that calendar. You know really cutting the baby in half type situation. Did you see what i'm saying. That's that's nice customization. And then we take it to the next level that i kind of teased the second ago. Which is you can have factors by. Which certain calendars on mac like pop up. Okay so you can hand. It's good so the menu. The is called.

"Right. It wasn't in the toilet. It was just charging leaving the toilet a lot my phone. I'm sending you this photograph. Here's all ex. You sent me is not in the best condition for sent me but it just happened to see it right after we did our show and not on you but like this is the one but it was much more orange. I feel like when i was a kid. Looks like it's been like stored in somebody's garage wing. Was a princess leia right here. Do you know that she's right here. Let's see picture this pretty lady so anyway i sent you that. I guess we could talk. About how much would you not good. We have time for just like one more little bit right. Yeah we don't have to do it. We also bounce. But i like doing our showdown. I hope it helps people. That's what we're here for a man now see now. I'm a sense to you and because you're like the rest of the internet you're mainly gross. My keyboard is okay. Yes and i blow it. I blew it like last week. And it's it's still all dusty. I'll look at her. Look at look at princess leia worth so. My suggestion was going to be me. We thought we were talking about journeys or anything so this this all started a few weeks ago with your journey into the google home haw and by extension like getting more into catching up on. What's doable in google. Calendar and seems like you're almost kind of like not exactly starting over but you ready for a new paradigm calendars. It sounded like you've been exploring counters. Correct that is correct and it has been working really well. I find that when dealing with it on the computer. I've tried a ton of different software. I finally eventually went with fantastic. Al on the computer and i. I'm it's good. It's good and it showed. It's definitely sorry my microphone spending around. It's very much got. Its own idea about how this stuff should work. Yes just a question of when you want the editorial app for example a lot of like thirty seven signals stuff was at a often in a way that was not the way my brain works right. Fantastic i just see benefits out the wazoo with how things put together it's really grand. It's the integration. Wants to be used as a natural language thing. He's got good key commands but also templates. It's got calendar sets. I'd actually love to talk about fantastico. That'd be something fun for us to talk about anything you prefer over that not yet. I mean i'm open to literally any recommendation at all. If you like the busy cal. Busy contact sort of vibe. Two things probably worth checking out because of this bears. Repeating in my eyes is Sink is knock on wood mostly solved problem in a way that it did not used to be so knowing. That sink is a mostly solve problem. You could try out anything. The worst thing you like. What you're you're risking off logging. That's like the most the biggest downside but layton unless really it you can always delete it later but you. That's i love that you can try different things. You're not obligated to manually move all your events just to try something out. It shouldn't if it's made well. It shouldn't damage your stuff. Exactly and one of the things that i really like about fantastic al for example. And this is something that i'm I'm kind of on the fence about it in also liking it. Because i'm the kind of person that i don't like a lot of stuff in the menu bar and i use bartender to kind of manage that until one of the really cool things at fantastic all does it will put your next meeting up in the menu bar so and it there's a link to zoom. Yes it will have to do is click it. Pops open the environment takes. He's so nice. And that kind of thing like those little details like you can just glance at your menu bar and know when next meaning is what that's crazy now. i love the debtors. that's also kind of old school. Hey this is your mac. You should be able to customize it like. It's not over the top. But if you go to preferences you'll see there's several different options for how how you want the console. What do you want do in the menu bar so yeah you get like black and white versus color but like in my case. I just want to see the day of the month. Like i don't want a whole bunch of stuff but you could also have a do stuff like show you instead like this very old school very now. Up to date sort of stuff is like the show me like a text. What my next appointment is sure that in my menu bar which i don't use that or like that but i'm very glad it's there. I could see that being very much. Somebody's jam but having the right. I said this last time. But i think it's worth repeating having the right. Application makes all the difference. It makes it the difference between whether or not you use it and the natural language thing for those who haven't tried this with a calendar. It's pretty cool. You hit the little plus button. This works on. Ios works on. Your mac works. Wherever you hit the little plus button and you just start typing lunch with merlin at one p m at the sushi place or whatever and it will understand the simple as lunch with merlin one pm at name a sushi place right and it will sign this. Yeah exactly and it will tell you and it can be automatically set to tell you to leave on time so instead of just thirty minutes before it'll tell you when to leave based on current traffic conditions and you can even pick whether you wanted to use apple maps or google maps to figure that out. It's very trick to pick a calendar slash into start typing. In the first calendar it matches the type in my case. A lot of stuff if it's not going to be awesome which calendar to put it on when you're typing that the default five slash b. I is starts putting turns pink and puts it on big family calendar nice. It doesn't mean anything you can do. That could be hands off. Yeah it's a really. It's really cool. App it really. It covers the waterfront and it works. You know on all the different things and now they have card hop to card hop is now included in your subscription. Fantastic which is great. But it's again going back to that. Las affi of having a if you think of the calendar as a database and these are different ways to access the database. They're different portals of of that. Same data different representations or views of the data. That's a really neat way to think of it because then you can say okay. Well i've got this one on this system this one on this system because i use them in different ways but then that information is still going to show up accurately in those different places. It's really really nice. I am switched over. Now it's even a metaphor or analogy is probably what it is. I mean it's essentially a database. That's such a good way to think about it because it you know really we think of it because we come from a background least in my case being old of a calendar being basically what twelve or thirteen sheets of paper the hang on the wall there in a grid. Yeah and yeah i mean. That's that's how we choose to represent time of cool but like really the calendar quote unquote on my computer database. And i can look at it. However i want in the same way that i could open something up in filemaker pro craft or whatever or you know air table or any of those things and look at it the way that i want. Because it's very well organized information. I mean that's you know a spreadsheet is just the database. You haven't met yet. Look how about this to do a really quick was the stop on things and fantastic all that i like. We wrap up with a couple like just specific For all time calendar absolutes I'm so i'm on my mac in tosh computer now. I don't need my mac. I'm a big surfing as interested about fantastic famous. Go i have one. Here is three point four just for reference which i think should be the latest version so dan said you know the marquee feature and other things do this now but fantastico has always are. They did it early and they've always done it pretty well. The say natural language. It's a little bit of misnomer. Really natural typing right. Yeah you could talk to your devices to and sometimes it gets that. But it's the once you get that it's very much like when you first using quicksilver or launch bar. Whatever like it takes awhile before you like. Let go and let god like for example like i didn't get even halfway. Decent at typing on an iphone is still until i stopped trying to type the words flawlessly and instead i adapted to the way that the iphone was able to help me out by. You know the all the ways we've heard about the big target areas for the thing you're likely to hit etc etc right like you can try and like i like to say do you..

I need to get that. So i thing you this photo. Start telling our listeners. And i'll jump back in short. So here's a lot going on here. Dan i'm turning off alarms. I'm reading manga. Manga is among the mangas. Are the movies. And animated the comic book the backwards comic book no flipped manga. Needles syracuse. immoral. Let's go with that. When are you going to hear this or what. I'm gonna have to repeat it. He's gone already recently. Set up a new plex server and the plex server lives behind the eero and in order for people including me who are not here who want to access or connect to the plex server. You have to enable remote access for us to work fine on other hardware now in the new hardware in able to remote access but it never ever connects to it it it every single time. It gives a little red exclamation point. Are you having a remote sharing problem. With the plaques the plaques through the through the euro and the are you doing three to four hundred thirty two four double zero custom one from this customs work best riot at custom one map to thirty two four. But here's the dumb thing. If i go to remote server remember telnet year old buddy telnet your do you can type in for people who don't know you. Type telnet. space than the ip address or or server named space and then the port number in intel net space name of server space. Thirty two four hundred and it connects it connects just fine from anywhere in the world. I've tried it from a half dozen remote servers. it works just fine. So it's not. That was only locally. It's not working locally. Works fine but if i actually tried to access the plex server with a plex app from anywhere but on the local network it does not work. And it says her not available outside your network. Your server is signed into plex but is not reachable from outside your network even though i have verified that it is You could connect gas but that sounds like it's it's like it's working. Well not working. Could it be something with permissions. Maybe create a new account. Sorry i know. That's the worst when somebody says something like that but you can try making if it can reach it if you can ping it or routed. That means it's there and i can. I can tell to it to that port and talk to that service So it's gotten excessive. I did that then. Then help to deregister the server somehow all right. Well if anyone knows. Hit me up. On and dan benjamin. Yeah let me know all.

"Move a bull crap every voice. That's i've been saying all these years but would mean the stream decker pretty good buddies now the stream that there are some things where you and i. I think this could be a topic someday. Is that. There's no answer one answer for everything. Even even if all of the things were equal and all of the things are never equal there are some things that are well suited to to switch and there's some things that are well suited to voice ray so like i mean as much as the joke that alex and i make some times like you know. You're such a weirdo. First of all. You spent all this money. You could talk to your lamp. And now you're all but hurt because you don't wanna have to talk to your lamp switch like a person and it's like well that's that's an amazingly unsubtle way for a straw man to talk right 'cause sometimes you wanna switch if you're up and you need to make sure eight. I don't want to talk to a lamp at night. Because here's the problem. If you talk to lamp the lamp will talk back to you. And i don't need something going okay or working on that or something's wrong i don't want i need to make sure not to have a conversation white. Ah in that case. A switch actually is good. Is that the old physical switchable. That's the switch him up here. That's the good. That's the frankie. Goofs is that no it's either a cassetta lutron dimmer lutron dimmer. Ima bathroom you know or a philips hue switch somewhere else now on the other hand like if i'm leaving my office and all i just want to say you know. Hey dingus here. I go and then either plays a song by mystical or it says manga and others but anyway. That's the topic for a different day. Did you see that dan. Did you see the someone listening to our program a week or two ago whenever it was. Did you see one of our listeners. On the on the internet said that win. I did the hail like i guess. Kind of in unison. Oh yes i did not reporting on recently. Was that for some reason. I just to quickly recap i have. What's called a routine An amazon Alien routine which is where you basically just put a bunch of things into a list and executes in a certain order based on you saying a certain thing and so tried all different ones of these Like the problem is though you get into namespace. Pollution like my one for a while was. I've just say hey dangerous heading home right so heading home. It says you got it man and then it says then it turns off my lights and it began. It says their weight through the procedure. Wait you wait for ninety seconds and then turn on my alarm rate. Also a nice little thing i added to. All of these is T to after so first of all set the volume very high when you responding to me and then instantly turn it back to one. Which sounds silly. Isn't that kind of cool. Like you never get that thing where you can do whisper mode and say hey think us play q eighty you know and says okay plank through papa but then it comes on and it's like volume jillian Even though you whispered and so if you add in things that you to say reset all the volumes on these at five am each day so you always start quiet every and so. That's my routine. I would say Going home the problem is going. Home is too close to some defaults. You ever do thing. You want to become kip boy. You run into this. Eventually folks in homekit is where you. You can't name something something because it's too close to something else. So i get really wants to have good be meaningful. So you can't do lots of things with night in it or it won't let you save it Anyway my ding this whatever it is. I'm saying meaning go do the things that i need when i leave my private office and And then but then. So i finally had to change it because it was too close to other triggering things and then like say then it changed to Here i go. Which i thought was good and but then like i say that at some point it just started playing a song by something called mystical with k. Called here i go and then that that got in in that infected that infect rechose so now the thing called mystical with cake didn't that i re- saved it. You know the usual as we used to say rain dance to hopefully reset. Something you fonzie slap. Yes on the side of the bathroom of the box or whatever. Fonzie hits the jukebox anything. He could do that with anything. It's not the problem is it's not about us it's about you know there's something magical happens you know what i mean when he did it. Yeah yeah regularly. What do you call them. Morgan le fay don't think we'll see that anymore. But what was the other thing i was going to say about. This is the leaving. Oh yes how does get so long. Dan talk too much. So what it said here on the program was then i had a twist. So it's no longer playing the song by mystical. Not doing a thing where it says a response. I say here i go. And then it says. Manga and.

"I'm not observant. A couple of the more of more of a cultural amazon than a religious. I see. I think i got a couple of echoes. The which the one that. I the only one that i had was the very first original tube one and then i have sonos one. Oh you were thinking about getting the show. But that's what you got the hub that i hope. So i got the google nest egg hub which is working fine. And i like that but i didn't. I don't. I didn't feel like i needed the display and like every room and so the sale that they had on these things is like crazy. Good fifty percent off. So i got a dot dot and i got a regular echo. Just the ball. It looks like a giant bowling ball and and so wanting to see what happens. I don't know what happens. I don't feel like i'm very wants. A lots of points for responsiveness. Like how well it. Here's and then like. How quickly does the right thing is. It's really really impressive. Death benefit of the dots in some ways is like i was not the best sound but i mean one of the problems with stuff whether it's sonos sorts apple stuff amazon stuff you know. There's a trade off all of these things like if you can you know like the recently discontinued. Big big homepods sound amazing but as everybody knows and they can actually they can hear you. Well where most of that falls apart is in the smart part of the smart speaker. This great smart stuff is not that great. 'cause it's siri and it's still learning but by comparison. The amazon wants it so good at hearing. It's so good at understanding again. Not in this case not a great speaker but the smarts part of that is really good so if you just need more ways to be heard if you were interested in the smart speaker. Those dots are pretty good solution. They're not very expensive. But i figured having one of those in kind of like that like the office areas the area. Because you know you can have that thing to sit in there and then you have like the like. I have the sonos one in the main area and then got. Maybe i'll put the ball. And another i don't know but what is interesting about it. Is that the tube. That i had could not join. One of those what are they. What are they called. Like a Speaker groups so that you can have them all playing the same thing at the same time. It couldn't join it. Wouldn't refuse to be part of it. Just one of them while the the tube the old one the original one wouldn't be. But i mean i mean. Yeah it's just in the sense that like you could extend that if you had like five or six of those it would still be just the one. It's it's not. The whole system is one of them is being balki. Yeah that apparently it's too old. It's not compatible interesting. Wow that sucks. Yeah so i had to get rid of. The sun has picked the wrong. We'll say quarter picked the wrong time to get cute. 'cause i mean i think like a lot arthur they'd be cute about. I'll tell you l. me for us. It's really frustrating. And it's such a first world problem. I feel a real third setting aside time to complain about it. But as long as you're bringing this up short we expect what we like from these things I love the Amazon echos show showing spring. I feel like how how is reading my lips but You know. I i love it as i've said you got this one here on my desk. I that show five shows something but it's it's big. I mean it's the screen bigger than ipad mini. And it's great for just like heaven to put on the background to kind of distract me. While i'm working on something i can put on. Cnn and be sad but love wolf blitzer and loved the way that he repeats repeats things one thing though the the one thing that the reason why i. I'm glad that i got the google tub. Instead of the amazon one is simply because of the youtube immigration. And most of what i watch except like in the evening when i'm watching a movie or aizhu it's youtube. It's all i do and i don't wanna have to launch pulling up what you expect given the stuff that i watch. I'm trying to imagine you you just pull up a channel. Give me an example. As much as you're comfortable from an object standpoint give me an example of how you say. I wanna watch some youtube right now. How do you talk to your machine and what you asked for. If i could ask i might. I might just say because i have things that i've subscribed to. I might just say to the code word. And i might just say youtube and it will just launch youtube and it'll show player recco. It'll show on screen like okay. The next episodes in the one that i want is always sitting right there. Similar hailing to like apple. Tv or google google. What aiden films on youtube. This is my yawkey channel. I guess at work and just watch. What baker just uploaded. Whatever he put up is probably good. Who the acre guy the guy it of collaborative learning the guy that talks about all the kubrick films colitis. I smell of khalitov's c l l eight. Hey cool okay..

"And then you know somebody said to me like you know. That's not his last movie. Right of course is being there. It's really good really good like now. He did another movie after that. English plot of doctor fu manchu. Were good or not good. Oh no no no. It's got michelle pfeiffer. It's got a very young michelle. So i think it might even just be like scarface era michelle pfeiffer i just watched deserving triscuit my goodness. And i mean she's she's great. I think she's about margot robbie. We're like you know my always appreciate is. She's very appreciated. Well you're you're you're right but let's get it out of the way. She is just empirically so pretty movement so charismatic overshadows her acting. Yeah i know it for me. it did. Yeah like when. I saw her wolf of wall street. Yeah i was like. Oh my god this is such a pretty lady and like because i'm a dome boy like i thought i should get accurate. Whatever and does the cameo in the big short that's astounding and then she's in but oh yeah the movie about the news on movie the new stuff to the news movie where she was in with. nicole kidman o. Oh my god yes. She was only exquisite. That was that was the fox movie. Yes yes yes she was so good. And that's why i think that's why mentally confused him ahead. 'cause they're both really really pretty actress ladies but they were not together anyway. The point being. I know right. I'm far from the first person to say this but two things I i don't know he just like You get in the movie. You don't wanna watch this heal. And i turned on the harley quinn movie or brazil pray or whatever. It's called Hbo amax really really liked the movie. Because it was like not at none of like a dark gray dc movie. The the crux of the movie is she. And mr j of broken up putting and really. It's about how she wants to breakfast sandwich. That's the movie and it's great aunt's guys got some excellent rosie perez. Good but dan finally get. My daughter loved that movie. So then i was like you know what let's watch i tanya. I've heard good things holy crap. What a tiny is such a good movie. I you hear things. You know what i'm saying. She's ben on me. She's legitimately just very good actor. And i think i was blinded by the fact that she's one of the one of the prettiest people i don't even have a crush on her and a conventional sense. But i think i was. Just think you might. Oh no. I'm happy talking questions. My crushes are nothing. I try to conceal doria get. Crushes also get sinus problems. Anyway how are you doing with this. Sinus are you using nasacort q. Flonase no no. That's that's bad getting off that in the morning you know. Prophylactically rolled on like you can also get one of those inhaled. You can like an old old bus. Ever get the oldest only got an old homeless right here trying to say bulbous no oldness lbj for your nose and nose bulb. It's an inhaler and you press it to your knowledge daniel handler. What did you say. It's an inhaler merlin through books. Okay it changes your whole game. The elevating later those are tv shows. Good you're watching tv. Show series unfortunate events. Here watch that your loved that one. I thought it. I thought that was much more. Like the books than the movie with jim carey. But i like yay my. My kid has read all the books. i have not read the books but my sense was. They did what they could with the movie. But you know there's certain one of one of the myriad great things about platinum h tv. I mean the downside of it is hey netflix's not everything has to be ten episodes of over an hour Let's get over that. But it's my favorite limited series things. Lately it's been like three four five episodes but But sometimes one one of the great things and we learn this as early as the sopranos. At least which is sometimes to tell a certain kind of story in a certain way At a certain pace. I think all those things importantly they've really does better as the tv show movie You have to leave so much stuff out. I think it's one thing that people find frustrating about historically about a lot of adaptations of beloved is that you have to leave so much stuff out even to get down to like a two hour movie and really what they want is closer like hour and a half movie and a lot of cases right. You can show marina why they do that partly that you can show more movies. Do you want me to make you almost three hour long superhero movie. Let's gonna earn big bucks for the first but if you get movies little shorter you can book more of them during a day. Make an extra viewing. i'm exam. You gotta fill the theater's gotta fill the theaters. Otherwise what's the point. What's making that popcorn for. Nobody i do shirley stare on. I'm going to think about it. The i'm gonna think about who my crushes. I have a lot. I have a lot of crushes rate now and i'm going to think on that I only have What i don't have a hardly anything. Prepare today calendars. We can talk talk about some stuff. But i also wanted to just talk. I think probably closing the threat on the calendar stuff unless people have questions that could be fun to is. If you have questions thoughts mainly questions. I mean you know. I don't know. But i thought it talked a little bit about some specifics. Implementation details of calendar stuff today if we consider that the winding down of that threat. I like you've been on a journey. So you probably have things to say about calendars i do. I do you score anything big for prime day yesterday on wait all year for that. No.

It's easiest thing i've ever done. It's easy ever done and you're great at it till you die but like you know. Thank god i if we'll have a role in that. I hope not. I'll probably die. Suddenly very stupid. Very very important thing happened the other day i feel like i haven't gotten permission to tell this anecdote but i can't get it off my mind i was. Oh so i make an ad hoc sauce. I don't know about me. Damn sauces a massage. man. I'm a condom and boy. You know midnight toker. I enjoy different kinds of sauces and we were having a dinner. The other night was going to involve french fries and boy. That's that's a bonanza for me. Because i make sauce. It's a pretty basically little kid style sauce but so do catch up demand as few drops of yellow mustard horseradish. And a little bit of habanero sauce. And i mix it up young. It's kinda like cocktail sauce. But leaning more heavily on the mayo it slightly belgian if i could say that like like a waffle yeah. Yeah like a waffle. I mean you know. The frenchman not as good. So i'm enjoys in the basement mixing the donkey sauce right. And so until i i love you know convenience and so i have the perfect helmets or best foods. They're whole israel and palestine mayonnaise. Both sides matter I i could squeeze one you know so it can deploy. Its soared through a very clever way. It's got a little on the man as comes off and you know what i'm saying. Give it a squeeze in convenience squeeze squeeze ketchup. Yeah i i've squeezed mustard now at the mustard you want to get the pre mustered out new. You're not gonna want you're not gonna want that the stuff that comes from the musters vast difference you want to get that out so you don't end up just having a big mustard splurge on clear that out. Squeeze the mustard because see. That's the on norling. Mix see if you recognize this out. Poof poof yeah foreign blanks. And i'm doing this. I'm gonna check a shocker shook. i'm shaking it. You know like a polaroid photo or thirteen years old. He's human that gesture trying to make instead right. The most is the the is doesn't want to come out firing blanks. I feel like a sucker matsakis understand And it's half it's like it's like about half full not enough. This pro physics poor poor Poor packaging or just you know could just be me could be my week hands. Shore finally break down a screw off the top. Or the bottom. And i get the thing is the whole. The whole is too small for any kind of a standard spoon to fall. So i'm putting a paring knife in there and going shiksha schick scrape around the sides. A sucker tried to get my quote unquote squeeze mayonnaise out of the quote unquote squeeze and bottle. Yes i know. I get a now. Do you follow. yeah. I'm with you. And i said lady friend came in 'cause i'll make them my sauce from a french fries. I love of sauce. I said this is ridiculous and even at to finish. She's i know it's crazy. I said this is absolutely insane. For the purpose of squeezing i purchased the squeeze man. He's usually goes on no matter how hard i squeeze and then breakdown. I opened up the top or bottom. If you like and start scraping around like a sucker. I said why is this so hard to squeeze hug. You haven't seen anything and she goes to the bathroom and she brings Part of her nighttime skincare routine. It's you know the fancy fancy face stuff. It's in like a little squared off bottle. That's but it's almost like a like a bottle of nail polish. Look this really really hard to squeeze. I said let me see. I said this is nuts. This is very hard to squeeze she said and look at the size of the printing on the side. I said nobody could read that. No i would have to take out my phone. And then there was a pause a natural sort of like something enters the room at this point in a silence. Settled honey okay. And that's the latest BBC news. This is from our own correspondent here on the BBC World Service. I'm PASCAL harder. Hello and welcome to the program that takes you to places others. Just don't reach in this edition. We've visit an elegant well established face of Catalan politics now behind bars and facing charges of rebellion. We also take a trip on a wooden canoe to see how the Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing for elections next weekend and for some lighthearted fun. We'll go axe throwing in Canada. Larry, apparently, it's a thing sweeping the nation. But our first stop is Iraq to meet some extraordinary women. There have been protests in Iraq recently calling on perpetrators of violence against women to be punished and calling for the state to create the conditions in which women can go about their lives without fear. This is partly as a result of some recent high profile killings. An Iraqi social media star was murdered by men on motorbikes in broad daylight in the center of Baghdad a female human rights activists was shot dead in Basra. But it's also in protest at scores of Iraqi women being murdered every month the justification that they were being immoral disobeying. Their husbands all bringing disgrace to their families shaima halio met some women willing to risk their own lives to protect other women and girls from this violence Doma is one of Iraq's most famous dishes. It's also one of my favorites. It reminds me. Of the stuffed vegetables. I eat back home in Egypt where I grew up, but it's much spicier Bessemer is a bit of an expert on Doma and during the last seven years, she's taken to cooking as a hobby, and as a coping mechanism takes my mind off things she tells me as she peels the onions, all my fear, my anxiety, my sadness. I turn this energy into cooking. Vessel lives with seven other women in a big modestly. Furnished home in a quite Baghdad neighborhood. Some of them are helping in the kitchen cutting vegetables, and washing rice, others, sit in a corner sorting beads to make bracelets necklaces a couple of children are running around. But this busy household filled with noise and laughter and the smell of home cooked meals is also a secret shelter for women who've survived domestic abuse. You're not Mohammed has agreed to show me around. But only after a lot of negotiation. She's the president of the organization of. Women's freedom in Iraq, an NGO which runs ten underground shelters. Only my producer a woman, of course, an I are allowed to visit. And we have to change cars on route to avoid being followed. The government refuses to give the shelters official status and can read them any time if they find them, but that's not the only threat in our in her organization face we shelter women from honor killing from trafficking and from abusive families. She tells me the shelters have to be secret because the abusers will follow the women and tried to kidnap them from us or even kill them. When I asked Basma why she's here her mood changes. And she tilts her head down. I was thirteen playing in the streets. When he took me dress me up and told me I was going to another house to get married. She says, I didn't know what was happening. I thought we were just visiting someone that I would come home the next day for the next three years. Best male was repeat. Tiddly abused by the man, she was forced to marry and by his family, then her story gets even more horrendous and surreal a man spotted her in the market one day and kidnapped her he said he was in love with me. And he was going to take me away from my husband's family. She says looking at the floor fidgeting with her bracelet. But her kidnappers father refused to keep her and best male was sent far away to a brothel in Iraqi Kurdistan. When I realized what was happening. I beg the women there to spare me she says. I couldn't do what they were asking me to do. I told them L beg on the streets. But not this. They let her go best managed to get a job in a cafe nearby. And after a few months, it's owner helped her get back to back debt to her family to safety or so she thought they said I had dishonoured them because I'd left my husband, and they didn't know what the other man had done with me. That's my says, I was just there. Waiting listening to their conversations about my fate. Even when I fought. My father's soften a little the men from our tribe would pressure him and say you have to kill her. It's the only way so one day with the help of a friend. I ran away. She says she was only sixteen seven years on best must still in hiding. But she now runs the shelter. She calls home. Yes. Of course. I get scared. She admits we're on the same boat here. That's why I helped them I have to protect them. You're not Mohammed tells me that across Iraq are fifty two women living in the NGOs shelters just a tiny fraction of those in need of help. She looks at her phone and shows me a message from a woman in muscle. If you don't get here soon. It says I'll be dead despite the challenges are remains optimistic and is proud of the women. She's helped many of whom have gone on to help other victims of violence, but best Ma is less. Hopeful she tells me she's come a long way she's married with two young daughters. I fear for them every single day. I don't want them to go through what I went through. All I wanted was to normal child. I asked about her girls futures. My biggest hope is that they leave. She says that they grow up outside Iraq. Only. Then will I feel that they're safe shaima halio next to the Democratic Republic of Congo? If you're Congolese the democratic base is sort of a joke. That's never been very funny and all the Congolese people I've known have tended to be pretty eager to laugh about most things Congo has a history of political strongman and multi-player wars next weekend. Though elections are due to be held Congo is also a vast country crisscrossed by rivers rather than roads with forty million voters living widely dispersed. So how'd you manage an election under those circumstances? Our correspondent Louise west has been following one man's determined voyage to bring democracy to his people a father and son paddling wooden canoe carrying a large black box as they pushed through the rainforest the some stops to take care of his father. Other next to that Congo an electronic voting machine. It's come all the way from South Korea. The man who works for the electoral commission is taking it to isolate villages to demonstrate how it works. The machines are supposed to make voting cheaper and quicker. But critics say they're vulnerable to vote rigging and worry about the congress on reliable power supply this journey along. The river is testament the challenge of organizing elections in this impenetrable landscape and in a country practically the size of western Europe. I was curious to find out more about Uber by Dan, his mission tracking down his phone number his colleagues from the electoral commission warned me, not sure you'll be able to get him reception is very poor over there. He's based thousands of kilometers from the capital Kinshasa where I am you there. Bindi is a forty seven year old computer engineer. He lives in Vasan Kusa at the conference of the Lapore and marine rivers to have the congress tributaries. It's the last. Sports before the wilderness of the Lapore base and the town has a traumatic history during colonial times, it was one of the first trading post where locals with forced into the brutal Robert trade down a Fonzie phone line tells me the story behind the photo I had managed to get a place on a boat belonging to friends of the bonobos. It's a local conservation group here trying to protect endangered apes. They were also heading to combat low. So they agreed to take my son and me, but when we ride the boat was already full, you bet laughs. You know, our geography makes it very difficult to reach voters. So we have to adopt to find solutions they pay to local fishermen ten thousand Congolese francs around six US dollars to bar. His canoe nearly three times the average daily income.
