"And he has done nothing to note as of yet in the NBA. In fact, he's kind of just been a glaring hole in their lineup in something that's more of a nuisance rather than anything. So what do you think about this latest diagnosis with him? And where do you? I'm not gonna lie. It sounds like it's made up. I know it's not, but doesn't it sound like something? He just came up with the top of his head. Like like, it's one of those things where it's like, oh, his shoulders. We gotta think of something that like that's a seri- that could be a serious injury. You know, they add on it just felt like this needed to be done. This are not needed to be done. I mean more the long lines of like they they needed to have an excuse for them. And I I know maybe excuses strong word, but the fact of the matter is Marquel has been a bust. Sadly, it's true. And the fact of the matter is when you look at Marquel Foltz in his career, so far it's been extremely underwhelming. Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, it's not what they envisioned when they took him number one. And they definitely traded up to get him. They pass up on other talented players to go get him. And he hasn't provided anything, obviously, they they brought him into score to be the two guard to be kind of that complement to been Simmons that ballhandling point guard. I mean that eating a big bodied point guard who can dish it off. And you know, the vision was Marquel. Full spotting up for three. You know Embiid inside kicking out to Marquel. Foltz Simmons cutting through the lane dishing it out Marquel. Foltz they're going one on one of the hoop or hidden in an open jumper. We haven't seen anything. I mean, it's almost been a season and a half in. I don't even know what kind of player he is. Because we haven't seen him play that often in the National Basketball Association. What you are in college really is some can off. Oftentimes be different than what you are in the pros. So oh one hundred percent. You know? It's it's unfortunate. But he'll always be compared to the players that were drafted around him. No, always be regarded he'll always be graded by what was given up for him. You know, they move a lot from pick. They moved up guy. Like Jason Tatum has immediate success with the Celtics. You know, obviously, maybe they weren't going to go that route. They definitely could've used Jason Tatum. But he'll always be compared to Tatum at least be compared to other guys like Josh Jackson, you know, deer and FOX ones mall. I mean, a lot of these guys that what the number one pick. You could have taken literally everybody anyone from that draft. So do you think that's unfortunate that he'll always be viewed in that light? Yeah. And let's let me ask you a question if they didn't trade up, do you think so on the took him for still I don't think he was a good boss in state at one? They were taking Tatum. No matter what. Yeah. I don't..

"Knowing that I'm basically in control of my own destiny when it comes to being out there on a basketball for a love to work. I love to grind always been like that. And he's doing it. And if you were at that game or. Watching the game. You had to be impressed. And let's hear from some people. Let's talk to Kurt. Who was leaving the game? What's up upcourt? Hey, what's going on? What was it? Like there, man. Take me through it. Oh, man. The vibe was nice, man. I was sitting right next to uh right behind AI. He was sitting next to Malcolm Jenkins. Jalen hill was in the house. Males. Got booed a little bit. Yeah. I thought he would he when you first walked in. I heard the boos minute stopped a little bit. And then he he took it exit back to the bar. But yeah, there's yeah. There's lowest wet suit on and and. Hi FIS, and then just exited out. But it was it was a great environment. I don't know what's up. A foul shooting. The hopper tater was the best thing they call it. You know, it was bad was bad. But but ballers nice. He's going to be a good addition. He's a quiet score. You really don't know. He's he's putting in work in scoring. But he's gonna be a great addition. It just they just need to get a couple of games together. They should blew out the jazz by thirty four team wasn't good. The Sixers are way better than that. They should be. That's the thing. It was it was an ugly game for a long stretch for first quarter was awesome. And I would imagine that it was just crazy loud in there for the first quarter certainly felt that way through the TV and FM thinking foul trouble. He really didn't have any any competition down low. He could have put fifty up tonight. It's just unfortunate. He got foul trouble. Right at the beginning. What twenty seconds into the third quarter? He gets into foul trouble. So you had to you got a lot of scholar minutes. And you're seeing a bit of a mere who Johnson. Tonight. What was that about us do for three three like it was it was really weird night? But a main thing is they got the win. Reichert, right. Yeah. Thanks for the call, man. Let's go to John in FOX chase. What's up, John? Hey, how you doing? Hey that was that was a fun game to be at. Place was electric. I was nice that we gave Jimmy some of. Welcoming chance, and it was it was good that we gave Joel MVP chance to make sure because you know, he loves his love. So we kept him keep feeding the beast keep him happy. Yeah. And he needs it. He deserves that love. He definitely does. You know, you can see your hundred percent right on the Butler trade. It's a huge upgrade. And you can see where the team. You know there. There's gonna be some some pains where they're trying to mash. But you can see where where it's going. We'll we'll be an in. We could be an inside out team can be down low get him established first, and then and then work from there. We have Rettig on the outside and Butler who who really there's not many players in the league scores in so many ways. Previous caller said he's quiet score. And that's a good way to put he scores going going through the basket. Pull up jump shots threes cut into the basket. Allowing other people create form it's a pretty game. Well, here's the to John is he wasn't necessarily that guy before he was talking to us time in Minnesota, and you watch him play out there. And in Chicago is a lot of ice. Oh ball. He's just going to dribble dribble dribble dribble. Try to shake a guy make his own shot. And that was a big value that he brings to the table. And we'll see that more especially in crunch time and time, but he's just blended in right away fully bought into the system. He's not trying to take anything over. And you gotta love seeing that it was beautiful. I mean, he miss he missed three shots. You know? So you can't you can't ask for much more the caller before actually before he went to break mentioned something about about folks. And. And. Guys intersection where we're we had a pretty good discussion about them. And before there's times where I want to give up on them. And then he does something great. You know, he makes a beautiful drive to the basket, but there's just so many holes in the kids game. And and if you ever watch him off the ball, I was wondering what you think if you ever watch them off the ball he drifts. He goes into called the short corner. He stays there and he just gets lost. And then and then I feel like it's a it's a bit of a mess. That's where you're saying. He's a good defender. He he he's like he's bringing consistent. He focuses one possession books. Great. And then another possession. It gets blown by. I was wondering if you in any pins on like, maybe he'd be one of the guys. Maybe if we make a move midseason the balance roster with the shooter and another bench player or something like that. You know, you'd think they come off of him or or what could what's next with him? Yeah. For sure John thanks for the call. So what I expect to see from our Foltz? Yeah. He could very well get traded. The minutes are going to be a major indicator of of what you see with Markelle Foltz going forward because he was getting a lot of time. He was a starter. He was playing maybe twenty five minutes a game. And you should have been frankly. Because at that point when you don't have Jimmy Butler, you might as well figure out where things are see what he can do up until Christmas. Maybe. And then if he's not doing a good job. You cut back as minutes a little bit. Maybe give TJ more time because he gets a lot of games where he doesn't even get on the floor tonight being another example of that TJ didn't play single minute tonight in what was a tough and ugly game a game where frankly, he probably could have been a good contributor. He didn't play so Foltz you how many minutes is he going to play going forward. And what does he look like in the short amount of minutes that he gets? They could very well trade him. There's nothing about Foltz that says that screams to me we have to keep this guy and the entire complexion of the organization is going to change the entire mindset of the organization is going to be changing think of Elton brand. Right. So Elton brand at the press conference the other day he was talking about adding a player, and they had an open bench spot after they made the trade to get Butler. So there were like all right. Well, what do you want to do? Are you gonna just sign anybody? Like, no, we're gonna take our time. We're going to get somebody that we think can be a really great fit like a dynamic. Awesome player. We want to try to really knock it out of the park with this move. And that's what we're going to bring in an ad to the Sixers. That's pretty different frame of mind. And let's play twenty twenty five minutes. Markelle faults, isn't it? They're trying to win now. Now, it's become we're going to compete with Boston. We're going to compete with Toronto. And if we're lucky enough we're going to compete with Golden State. They want to win. So. The whole situation has changed for now. I would still try to play him as much as you can. I would try to get full twenty minutes game. Absolutely. Get them in there in the backup role. You've got to keep them away from Simmons. Because it's still it just doesn't work. Does it work Simmons and Butler is working a little bit? It's not great. But there's a couple of flashes from it where you can really see they've got some chemistry which is great for Ben 'cause Jimmy works with both of those guys. Really? Well, he Benadryl. And so you got to keep working with that. But the Foltz Simmons stuff does not work get him out there as you second-string point guard. Give them a lot of those minutes. Does see if he gets better. He's taking some jumpers here. And there the form looks okay. When he's says at the elbow, and he takes jumper. It's not bad. Smooth. So I can take that it's something encouraging. And if he does play better, it's either going to give you a better player or increases draft vow urge his trade value, and you get rid of them. So there's nothing really to lose an iffy stinks. Then it is what it is. It's not like you're gonna lose so much intrigue value that it's going to it's going to hurt you significantly. Maybe he's a throw in. I don't know. But Foltz is definitely worth more time. Despite the fact that he has been a mess and see what you get out of them. But Butler changes the whole dynamic with volts. That's okay. Because you've got to worry about the big picture. What is the goal for? The Sixers will goal now is gonna win a championship. It's not about development. Brett Brown talked about those two things star-hunting star development. That development phase is done there over with it outside of Ben Simmons involving his game because Embiid playing like an MVP. You're not going to be putting that time as. As much time into faults. You can't do it. The idea that faults is going to be this piece next Ben Simmons, and basically do what Jimmy Butler is doing right spot up guy that can create his own shots somebody that can make some good cuts shoot a three pointer. That was supposed to be false. So they've replaced that element with a superstar already. They don't have that expectation. They're not going to wait. They've seen enough that they don't believe that. He's that guy. So hey, it is what it is. But still play faults little bit and see what you can do with them. Now. We gotta talk about this from John Middleton. I can't believe I am thirty five minutes into the show. And I have not talked about John Middleton who said, quote, we're going into this expecting to spend money, and maybe even be a little bit stupid about it. What what you've just got a billionaire owner of a major league baseball team that you said he's going to be stupid about the way that he spends his money. Are you kidding me? Jack Fritz is shaking his head. It is not a good thing. It's a horrible thing in terms of bargaining. It's a terrible move. Like, hey, listen. We're going to pay anybody twenty billion dollars actually with a guy like Scott Boras. It's mildly terrifying. Yeah. It's it's I mean from that standpoint it's done but like Bryce Harper, right? I think that's pretty much a given. Because here's the other thing too. And I think this is part of the reason why John Middleton said that he's gonna spend stupid amounts of money, which is maybe the greatest quote ever. And I'm so sad. There's not audio. But. The thing is he said that in part because nobody likes this team right now. Like, they don't have even like, you're a big Phillies guy, Jack. Right. You did do a high hopes pod. You sell to your big Phillies guys always have been. But as much as you might like the Phillies is there a lot of love for this team. Do you like love the current state of the Phillies? No, no. I mean, I love the Philly's. But I understand what you're saying. Yeah. And that's the thing. So when even the biggest die hard fans, it's hard to get that hard get that far behind the Phillies when you get an owner that comes out and says, hey, we're gonna spend hilarious amounts of money. Even people that like hate Gade, Kappler and Clinton, I can think those guys suck you thinking about buying Phillies. Tickets already. I mean, they they want to switch public opinion. Mcphail talked about it. He was very antsy about ticket sales. So I think that's part of the equation here. And that that bothers me the only thing that worries me is like I like the idea. I like the idea of a you can spend whatever you want it just that like don't see Patrick over and be like, all right? Well, guess what? We're getting him for six years. Hundred twenty six million dollars to like those by everyone like I want you to be smart with the money a little bit because you're going to have to pay these guys, and you have to pay Nola and pay Hoskins and pay all the other guys. Like, I wanted to be smart and also spent a student mount of money. Yes is that? That's what he should have said. I'm smart, and I'm gonna spend a stupid amount of money. Well, he said we prefer not to be completely stupid. Gertie sounds like a drunk guy. He does it's like he's wasted. It's like four in the morning. You went to an after hours club. He's just really going at it that night. He just can't go home. And so John Middleton walks into a McDonalds or wa wa and he's in the light, sir. That sandwich, I'll be seven fifties. Like, here's fifty out like he's nuts. So that's the thing. It's like, it's such a confusing complicated comment. And I I don't know what to like, my general reaction is this thing is great. But there's also such a real part of me. That's like this is horrific and bad. And I hope that he does have a plan. I hope that John Middleton is not coming out and saying that I'm going to spend stupid amounts of money just to get the fans to like the Phillies again because that's not what you need to do. People are going to like you. Once you sign the guy. Anyway, you don't need to go through public channels. You don't need to be the owner the active owner of a major league baseball team in the midst of negotiations and say. We're going to pay people whatever we want. And it really doesn't matter stock that great business. You sure you want people to buy.

"They might switch some to an and then be able to just talk Rettig or sham it out of those matchups as well. If they need to of Wilson Chandler now, though Dame becomes a key key piece for this team as he returned from his hamstring injury. We had this is something. Kevin pelton noted in his breakdown this the Sixers right now because they have fourteen guys on roster after the trade two of those guys patent and desire Smith or hurt then cork Mazdas as out of the rotation. Joan Bolden isn't really playing they really have ten. Possible guys depending on who is healthy and who's not and they traded to starters for one starter. So that opens up certainly red can get some of those minutes, but he's not going to get many more. That opens up something for probably wasn't Chandler. Maybe a little bit more for Shamet. And that's a challenge. It wasn't Chandler is still on a minute restriction. And that does put some heat on buyout guys. They could use that trade exception. They created against somebody though, not not obviously somebody who makes a ton of money. And also, the idea of potentially moving some of the pieces that they have in something else that could be, you know, Mike mascola to me is an as EMMY certainly you have a need for right now. But I think the need of their need for him. Right. And like, yeah. Now like their bench really just doesn't work at all anymore. I mean, like McConnell enfolds, you know, McConnell is a good player, but he was already out of the rotation of false. You know, they're already struggling to get enough spacing for folks with Covington out there. Now that's gonna compact even more with Butler and Foltz will gum up the works even more when Butler's is trying to play and certainly can't play. Foltz Simmons and Butler together and expected to do. Well, you know, maybe you could do that. If you're gonna just play Moskal at center when beat out of the game, you could find a way to go there. But so now, I mean McConnell and volts are kinda Joe almost unplayable themselves. So like, you got like six players on this team that really like fit together and can work then, you know, they're the inevitable injury concerns as well. Presumably this will also mean a meaningful reduction in Jimmy Butler is minutes, maybe a reduction to the reported agreement of thirty two minutes a game something that Butler only did twice the season one. I think both games were blowouts. He played forty one last night against Sacramento, and let lead to some colorful quotes to Sam amick of the athletic. And yet he said we have afforded one minutes is too much. We have fourteen other fucking guys on the roster. That's ed. Honestly, we could just refer to those guys as the other fucking guys that it honestly based on FaceTime Jimmy's approach and everything else. And no he loves those guys. He's been out there fighting for those guys he has been fight fighting for those guys. So yeah, I mean, I think that I and so I'd from Phillies perspective, I wanna do one big picture thing quickly because because you talked about a little bit different. But I think this is important. They not only did they walk out of last offseason with nothing long-term. I mean, obviously JJ Redick is a really good consolation prize for what this team needed. But one way of thinking about this trade is that last year they did that this year. There were a lot of there are a lot of guys in two thousand nineteen that would have made a ton of sense for the Sixers, quite Leonard would be awesome. They're klay. Thompson is almost perfect and Durant would have been nasty, obviously, just like he is almost everywhere. But there's a, and I think Butler is a meaningfully worst fit than all of those guys. But there is a really significant chance that they were going to walk away with. None of them. And if they believe which is an interesting argument if they believed that Jimmy Butler was not going to go there if they didn't trade for him..

"Glad to have the the real host of rights Turkey. Sanchez radio back this week. He had some sort of fill in last year. Never heard of them substitute teacher took advantage of of his his presence on the air skewered him securities. That's what happens a sub-standard takes. Jack did a good job last week. And we have a lot to talk about. Unfortunately, spike is a frustrating feeling heading into the Sixers planning night to play later tonight in Indiana gets the Pacers. But they're six and five they haven't won a road game yet and Sunday their last game which was off a back to back after they won Saturday. Yup. They played up in Brooklyn. And it was just it was every team has a game like that once in a while in the NBA season, but it was a bad one. It was listless and a lot of ways and the frustrating part is continuing to watch Marquel. Foltz just have an ability to shoot the basketball. And then the whole thing this week with your hand than I'm frustrated watching Marquel right now and frustrating watching watching the Sixers with China work Marquel? It is it's a frustrating feeling right now, especially with the expectations that they had that were being good. The starting lineup. That was a love people love to cite it that. It was the most efficient. Yep. Starting lineup in the NBA. I made it worse on purpose. Yes. That's a good point eight did. I I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because I am pretty checked out on Foltz ever being that good. I I think that that that ship sailed for me during the preseason even that I'm not counting on that. And the thing that bothers me more is Simmons at because I think when I think about the trajectory of the team and their opportunity to win a championship at some point, obviously not this year. But at some point in the fact that the the primary ball handler is Simmons and the best score. Embiid cannot run any action together and do not complement each other at all. And I think about the future of the team. And I think about playoff basketball in what we saw the Celtics do to Ben Simmons last year, just sort of back off pack, the paint stop it from happening. Make it impossible. For you to get the ball to Embiid really simple concepts that just the Sixers no answer for. And I asked myself the question when they get into the playoffs this year. What answer will they have because still the primary ball handler cannot shoot and will not shoot and has not appeared to develop shooting at all now. No, it can't be an overnight thing. I understand that. But when I when you project out, and you realize that his whole life. He has played basketball, and he's gotten himself to this point and understands intellectually there's no way he doesn't understand that shooting is an important and we've seen this growth from Embiid. This explosion from Embiid to an MVP caliber player in your other best player. Really doesn't complement him at all. It is frustrating to me. And that it does not seem as though he has taken that seriously. Looks like the same player in the same player that he was when he walked off the floor last year in Boston, the desire to be great means only one thing for me with Simmons. And that is a willingness to accept that weakness and a willingness to address it, and I haven't seen that and watching him play it frustrates me more than the false thing. Because I know what could be four Simmons. I know that if there was a jumper there. All of the sudden Joel Embiid goes from maybe the best player in the NBA did a fifth best player in the NBA. And Ben Simmons goes from the thirty first best player in the NBA to maybe the six or seven best player in the NBA. That would unlock everything everything he he would be. I mean, all of the LeBron comparisons. Are there aside from in addition to that he is a probably a better passer than LeBron is great passer as LeBron his visions better, you know? And he's. As developed at a young age and his his inability to do to do that has put a a I guess such a cap on the season and a cap on the team until he changes it that that is what has bothered me. Here's why I'm I'm frustrated more with false, and I'm frustrated with Ben they were they were frustrated a lot of different things here because the team's not playing very well but infrastructure false because it doesn't work, and they're just forcing I understand. There is a long-term fought to this whole thing. But you watch him out there with Ben Simmons, and it doesn't work, and I'm getting frustrated hearing a lot of thoughts that oh Ben as to change his game remark. Health benefit changes game to make the team better to make himself better. You just laid it out with him. Joel. He doesn't have to change his game for Marquel Marquel was drafted to play next to Ben Simmons. If he can't shoot and is not willing to shoot. Like the idea of making Ben Simmons a power forward. Doesn't work. It doesn't work because he can't shoot right and an NBA power forward shoot now. Yeah. They're all stretch for a standstill and shoot, which is actually the the thing. That Ben Simmons is least likely to do is stand still in shoot. Right. I it's just the idea that Ben as the chains remark. Hell frustrates me. The idea that Marquel isn't any good frustrates me. And I'm watching this team right now, and they'll play tonight against Indiana. I don't feel good going going into almost any game against a good team. Because they're going to have all these issues that are always there. Do you think play at what point do you think playing faults to the detriment of the team is also due to the detriment of the current team being able to win is also to the detriment of Simmons and Embiid as players as they continue to develop we're approaching it. Right. It's coming at some point. And we we did this a couple of weeks ago. And when the seasons started like, okay, it's early. There's a lot of season to go here, and it's a long game they're playing, but at what point like they just they're not going to be able to win enough games to have a relevant season. If they keep giving away games early. The Knoxville just say, okay, we're gonna take the lineup and starting in January. We're going to play seven hundred basketball. It's not gonna work that way. If they keep losing games early. They're gonna end up as the six or seven seat in the east and have a wasted season. I almost want them. This sounds crazy. I almost want them to not succeed as much as they thought. They would because I think it'll get it in the Simmons head that something needs to change. Okay, buddy. Like, well, he came in here, and he couldn't shoot right? Everybody knew he couldn't shoot. And he was so successful as a rookie that and especially during that sixteen game span of beating teams, but winning nonetheless, and he becomes rookie of the year and everybody talks about him as a possible all star. And I think something got it's possible that his thought was like I don't need to be. I got it. I'm good look at how successful I can be. And I think this. Ultimately should be a challenge that the way that they've started. And I hope it encourages him to to address that the Foltz thing. I I almost feel bad getting frustrated. I I I think the city in general is sort of protective of him and doesn't really him. And I I'm almost I feel bad when I get mad at how he plays. So I don't feel bad that I'm annoyed yesterday. When the whole thing with drew jalen's tweet, and he says, he he's on on social media when he obviously is obviously he's tweets and Instagram stuff. All the time. He saw what you're an leeann tweeden. I know he did not unsocial me was me wasn't me. I didn't do it wasn't. He hated eight seventy nine comedian. I was it. Chris rock talked about getting caught cheating just being like wasn't me. I didn't do it. Yeah. Chris rock and that that was more Kelly yesterday. He's saw that you're handling tweet. We all did eight eight seven to nine nine thousand four hundred for the Sixers or frustrating right now. I'm most frustrated with this entire Marquel situation. Spike is most frustrated with Ben Simmons and really his lack of development early in the season. And it really anything in the off season of all the things that could have gone wrong for the Sixers and start this season Marquel? Not being able to play shooter to requisite level is up there. Ben not improving his shot at all is up to those two things they needed the most to happen outside of Joel embiid's health, which is always number one for the Sixers, right? The next two most important things are those guys being able to play together, and at least one being able to shoot. And I think Derek. Under the stats yesterday outside of five feet. Like, those guys can't make a basket. It's pretty crazy. It's unbelievable yet. It's impossible for them to succeed. It's impossible. I the only position on the floor that you can be successful championship level successful now and not be able to shoot is. If you are a Clint cappella, Nerlens Noel Tyson Chandler style center, just run at the rim where you run at the rim, and you play an incredible rim protecting defense that is the only way that you can be a player that can stay on the court in the playoffs is if you're one of those guys and Markelle is not that guy in Ben Simmons is that your point about Simmons people say just playing the power forward. Well, that makes him entirely useless. Because he's not even doing the one thing that he's pretty good at which is passing and and bring the ball up the floor, and and trying to break his man down off the dribble. That's the only thing that he does offensively. Well, a power forward. He he would be completely use the scary part. All this. We'll go to the phone lines. Is that like the Foltz? Simmons thing is the story. But if if Simmons isn't improving you hit on at the start that he and Embiid long-term will never succeed at their level. Like the level. We we thought they could end it is important. You know, people talk about the that the fact that Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant did not complement each other on the court yet they were successful together. But what happens is is that when Durant got to free agency, and he was able to make a choice and he looked at the situation. And he said is this situation the best situation I can be in whether I'm friends with the guy or not does this make me the best basketball player, I can make and there's it is not crazy to think that if if those two were more cohesive whether or not they succeed more or not in terms of a team frame. He felt like he was making him better. I think there's more of a chance that they would have stayed together long term. But the fact that he looked at Westbrook, and he's like, well, he's doing his thing. And I'm doing my thing, and I can go do my thing somewhere else. I and that's something. They should should always be thinking about is that if these guys complement each other better on the court that there's more of a chance that they will want to stay together. Which is the whole point guys, or at least, you know, superstar players together for a long time. Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four most.

"The last unbeaten team. Well, no, more Antetokounmpo, and the Milwaukee Bucks big comeback. But they fall short in Boston losing to the Celtics. Let's talk some hoops, our buddy Kurt. He'll pro basketball talk on NBC sports dot com. Joining us in Kurt got to start with Philadelphia been reading a lot of grumblings coming out of that city with Markelle Foltz, he's the starter. But I don't know. I mean, I'm reading that people are just saying out defense aren't respecting his shot. They're barely covering him. If this is true. Why is he still starting right now JJ Redick? Well, first off those people are correct. Here's respecting your shot. He's not trusting taking it enough yet. He he's just not a scoring threat. And the reason he's starting though is simply rose trying to build up his confidence. JT Radic comes in not long after he often starts second half. On. They're trying to they're trying to build more full confidence on the fly here and playing him with the starters sounds like a great idea to do that, you know, give him the bump of being a starter. Except that there when I look this up for the power rankings this week. And I assume the number I don't know. Did it change that much tonight when Foltz Simmons and Embiid or on the floor together getting out scorpion, fourteen points per one hundred kidding? What's out there? Because there's no spacing. There's no offense of spacing. So they're not scoring much because you don't now you got three guys. I mean and beat the three, but that's not where you want him working. You don't you let you let full shoot Simmons. What even try like, you can pack things in on them. That's why JJ Rennick is still value for them. He's just comes off screens. But you've got to respect him, you know, Steph curry range, so it would open all sorts of things up and the the other thing that we thought would be better. We're like, yeah. But is a long range. Defender they've been off on defense with that setup too. So I don't know how much longer they're going to go to it. You know, this is something that they might stick with through thanksgiving just trying to build him up and then throw him into a sixth man role. But I don't know how he's gonna do there right now. I mean, he's looked a little better the moments. He's been able to just kind of have the ball in his hands and create. So maybe that's better with the second unit. But then you're taking McConnell's good. It's just I I'm not quite sure where he's sitting in right now. The problem is if you continue to do this. And then you take him out make him a six man Archie, killing the confidence even more. We know how fragile is. You know, his confidence is right now considering he's a number one pick that people looking at it ready and starting to whisper monumental bust. Yeah. It is a genuine genuine concern, especially when you've got that number three pick in that draft. Jason Tatum turns out to be pretty good like so. All right. You guys the guy the guy they swapped him for like any angels, looking really, it's it's you know, I it's still too early to to definitive here. Just because I'm a little conservative with those things. But Denny angels. Looking really smart hitting the pick and everything he got there. So it's it's some point. You've got to do it at some point. It's gotta be coming that winning right now they've been really flat in Philadelphia. That's what to all sorts of talk about making a move or doing something. But you know, if you're gonna try to use the easy guy on the on the board right now if you're going to try to get into the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes. I'm okay. Okay. I I don't think Marquel. Folks is suddenly the potential trade weapon that you would kind of hoped. He would be you mentioned Jimmy Butler in things seemed to go from bad to worst. He sat out yesterday. Do that quote general soreness, which sounds like the biggest BS excuse believe he's traveling to Golden State? I guess he might play. We're not sure is the belief that he's going to now start to sit out games and try to force the hand of Minnesota, even more. That seems to be the prevailing theory. He doesn't general soreness sounds like the major league baseball flu hangover trick. Except it wasn't thinking. We Butler was hung over here. It's just it's a it's a bad thing. It's if you're telling me he was taking a night off to rest. Would you take off a game where you've got a night where you've got rest before you you've got a day off before and the day off. After is that it just it doesn't it rings a little hollow. I tend to think there was at least some sort of message trying to be sent there. Even though everybody involved in is it publicly. It isn't going. Well, and I think that that's him just trying to generate leverage if the game before four this rest was the game against the the Lakers when they bowler towns finally played well together, and you know, they got a nice win against the Lakers. And you're like, hey, that's started to look like it's coming together. Such a look good. Then the owner's not gonna wanna treat me. So I'm not sure what's going on. There is the situation continues to get here, but he is expected to play against Golden State tomorrow night. So that will probably not be a win. But we'll see we'll see what it looks like. And if it looks better it's gonna stay like this until the owner 'cause comes into those trade him. It's a typical clearly doesn't want to. And and that's what I keep hearing. People. Clearly, just he's not motivated to make the move chat with our buddy, Kurt. He'll and pro basketball talking NBC sports dot com here on going deep. Dan, Schwartzman, NBC sports radio Kurt you look at the rockets and the offer of four first round pick that that teams one in five right now in Carmel is awesome. And I I'm a huge Carmelo guys. Everybody knows you know by now as well. But what's the main concern here? Why are the Houston Rockets who at home lost seven games off last year? I believe they've lost all four home game. So far at the two zero two Senate what's going on? There's a few things I mean to be fair. Chris Paul a couple of games with the suspension James Harden's miss couple now, and I'm just going to be. A hamstring. So there is some injury concerns here. But it's bigger than that with them. I've seen them in person a couple of times now their communication on defense their recognition on defense last year. They knew who they were gonna what they were going to do. And who they were going to be there with a switch everything they were thinking about the warriors Jeffords Zelic their assistant coach in charge of the defense or defensive coordinator, if you will was on it he retired and as much as everybody talks about what rightfully talks about losing trivial reason and losing. Especially replacing them with more. Come Michael Carter. Williams is a pile on out there on defense. It's. Beyond the just the player aspect of having a coach who was just that was his thing. And that was it was gonna make them on defense. Not having that is he is really a problem for them. They're not so c'est on that end in it. It's bleeding over into the offense. But I think the offense will come around. They've got to find a way to be better on defense or it's a long season. Yeah. I definitely he's going to be a long Stephen season. No question about it. It's been ugly. So far for them. Let's get to the Milwaukee Bucks. They lose tonight their first loss of the season. There were the last undefeated team. I was looking over the roster was Sean or steamed colleague, and I thought to myself. You know, what is this a team that we just haven't really looked at in terms of how much talent they have in the east because the fact in Milwaukee to smaller market, but you go up and down that line from the starters to the bench. I mean, they're pretty good team current. I admitted I've been one of those people haven't really taken them seriously until I really kind of sat back and look at that roster. Are you underestimating? Or are you looking at them going? You know, what they got a good coach and pretty good talent there. I I had them force in the east going into the season. And then I might that might be low Philadelphia right now, they are they're playing maybe a little better than I expected. But I thought Putin Holzer look just putting the talent they have. And it's not just like you said, it's Chris Middleton who I think a lot of fans. Eric Bledsoe compla-, but they are deep with guys off the bench like Tony snow who can do some things for you. And there's now those guys are being put in better positions and they're being unleashed to shoot threes and play fast. The defense has been simplified. It's not as aggressive and then as they buy into that. I mean, they went into Boston and lost by Ford and the game that man it looked like the first type game. Lobby at the end. Both of those teams did not look like they've been in a lot of close big games. And and it showed a little bit. That said they were right there at the end on the road against the Eastern Conference favorites that that's good confidence boost. I if there's no moral victories. But that's the kind of lost like right there man, we make a couple of plays. We do this or that differently. And things are different. I I liked him a lot right now. I mean, I said this earlier, I if you told me that the bucks were one of the two teams playing in the conference finals, I wouldn't be shocked. It's not wanna picking I still think it's Toronto in Boston. I think those are the two best, but the bucks have the potential to get there and you get into a series with Boston or somebody is going to be the best player. Twenty. Maybe the only other team was a player on his level in the east, and that's gonna matter a lot in the playoffs. Dwight Howard makes his return to well the NBA he's gonna play for Washington tomorrow. And he's coming back from a muscle issue. His buttocks y- apparently can't sit. He's gonna have to lie on the floor. When he's not going to be in the game. I should even be playing if that's his condition, but can he stop this bleeding a little bit by a team that should be much better than the record? I mean, if two guys who are really good players in John wall, Bradley Beal, Otto porter is making a ton of money as well. Kelly Oubre as a decent player. What is happening in Washington and is Dwight Howard help or hurt. If you're gonna solve chemistry problems on a team. Dwight Howard is exactly you turn to. Parts of this. He does help them. They actually are in some ways on the court. They are the worst defensive rebounding team in the NBA right now at Dwight Howard is still a very good rebounder just doesn't rebound his position, but he rebounds, a couple of, you know, a couple of spaces over wherever he is that will help that his presence in the paint will help 'cause Muhima just isn't the guy. So he should be an upgrade over what they have. But you know, I saw them in person. Getting thrashed by the clippers last Sunday night, and what stuns you about that is. It's not just like missing shots or or Xs and os stuff. It's it's Bradley Beal drives the lane. It gets kind of knocked down. His guys do when they're kind of driving the lane and go up for a shot on the layup. No wizard comes over to help him up. Eventually it's Tobias Harris from the clippers are kind of like all right and helps him up like that happened multiple times. I've not seen a team high five less or just there is this. How people when you're in their locker room like they're just not tight. They just it's a, you know, t to borrow the baseball analogy it's a twelve players twelve tabs team. And they really there's just no chemistry and Dwight Howard is it gonna fix that. Firing the coach isn't gonna fix. I it's a their problems went deeper than just the Xs and os stuff right now. And I still think they've got the talent to be okay. But. At some point. They've got to start thinking about how they're going to take a step forward with this core. And I don't know if you can't Kurt last question. Are you believing in the team that employs buddy? He'll de'andre FOX had a triple double today. The yelich Willie Cauley Stein Marvin Bagley. I mean, Iman Shumpert. Yes, right. You're six in three Sacramento Kings after thrashing Atlanta, one forty six to one fifteen come on. You never thought they'd be six three nine games into the season. I did not I had them as the worst team in the west and they play hard. They play fast boxes taken a leap for it. He looks good at some really he's taking a leap forward. This season Willie Cauley Stein is playing like a guy. I mean, I loved that. He's just honest about it. I want to get paid next summer. I'm a free agent. I it's not like he's just hogging the ball. I mean, he's just playing smart basketball within himself. He's been a beast inside Bagley spent fine buddy Heald's knocking everything down..

"Foltz Simmons in the back court Covington and Saroj and Embiid or your front court for the Sixers and tonight, the Los Angeles Clippers have Eric Beverly they had Avery, Bradley. They have to bias Harris, the no Gallinari and Marsin Gortat. They're not awful team. Team, but they have a bunch of decent players, including Lou Williams who still playing well loose. They'll do it. As thing. I'll tell you. He off the bench. He's just the six that's a kind of player. Sixers would need off the bench. Yes. He being very nice play it, very nice player. But next year the clippers are going to be better. I think I think that's gonna go. They're not gonna go and play with LeBron. It just can you see the two opposite personalities. So it's not going to happen. He's not going to the Lakers. But I think he will go to the clippers and eventually eventually Ben wants to be in Los Angeles. I just sense it he he's got that that that or about him. And he's going to have to sign his next contract with the Sixers, but I don't know what's going to happen. In that period of time. But I mean, he's going to be here for a little while because he's gotta sign the contract. So I I don't know the. But. Teams that are passing them by right now. In the east right now. And there's a lot of seasoning a good team. But they're not good enough. You're you're totally right right now in the east. I would say they are the best team. Yes. With team fourth at fourth. And that's if you're if you're really trying to Milwaukee's college good bogies better than I know they beat him. And they're better than they were last year better. Coach Jaanus is your guys a great player. It's it's frustrating because they're they're one of their best players then get any better than the other one's just frustrating watching faults Dave down area. What's up, Dave? Yo how's it going? Good date. What's up? To me, the the problem with the Sixers isn't even so much the players now. I mean, I know we have to deal with what the hand that worked out..

"From what deals should here are off air debate Lougee going at it about not fantasy? No, not about the WWE. Those are the two things you would assume Lougee, and I are going out at about. We are actually going out about it going at it on a topic. I don't think you and I have ever done at about ever. And that's who's coming out of the Eastern Conference in the NBA. We're basically debating who the warriors are going to smoke in the final. That's right. That's what we're doing. Luque's big on the Celtics which I get you should be the favorites. I have no problem with that. And I have just pointed out that the two best players in the Eastern Conference. Both reside on the two teams that I think could beat Boston, and that's Toronto Milwaukee. And my issue is with Toronto because you make the point for yourself on. Why you don't buy the raptors go ahead, and I'm going well because you told me on the rafters, and I get it. They have a new star player. It's a new culture LeBron's niece anymore. But to me when a team like that like, you can't just go all Toronto because we've been hearing about Toronto forever and forever. And I understand they change stuff. But to me, you can't sit there and go while the raptors just for me when I hear that I go not yet. Let me see them. Do it first before you could sit there and go all in in October and say, well, it's going to be the raptors. And what I said, you is close your eyes and tell me what you envision in the finals, the Celtics the raptors or the box now that is a very unfair question because that's that's. No, no, no, no, that's an unfair question. Because you and I with the age demographic, we are don't remember Kareem on Milwaukee and the box being in a final. So we've never seen the bucks in a finals. That's number one. We've obviously never seen the raptors in the finals, and we have seen plenty of the Boston Celtics being a final team, though, not nearly as much as Joe beningo debt. All right or anybody over the age of fifty or sixty did when they were there in the eighties in the sixties and winning eighty million titles in a row. So when you say close your eyes did Toronto Milwaukee Boston. Well, of course, you're gonna lean towards Boston because we've never seen the other two teams got there. But here's my point about Toronto. And it's not a prediction. I'm not predicting the raptors to get to the finals, I've gone out on a limb because I love the odds that I picked Milwaukee to get to the NBA finals, mainly because Yanna Santana Kumo in my opinion is the best upcoming star in the Eastern Conference. And right now, probably the best player in the Eastern Conference unless truly is as healthy as he is. And they went out and they got themselves real head coach. Coaching coach Putin Holzer? And I remember last year in Milwaukee fought Boston to a real tough seven game series loss. The line was if you put Brad Stevens coaching Milwaukee, and who I already forgot who was coaching Milwaukee. Coach the Celtics do we get a different result? And I think we all agree. Yes. Will now the coaching gap while still advantage Boston. I'll give you has definitely lowered down to the Kubo's only gonna get better. Now, granted the Celtics were banged up missing. A few guys there to get it. But it's not just inserted. Everything's gonna be great. But I just I know you love the NBA. And I know guys that love love the NBA they fantasize every year about while. This is the year the rockets are going to get to the finals. And this is the year. This is something's going to happen. I'll we'll hear about it all winter long. And when we get to the finals, it's going to be the Celtics and the warriors. This is what happened with the Celtics are not the caps. Yes. The last four years it's been that. And then we get LeBron versus the warriors. This Celtics team hasn't done it. They haven't done it yet. Why we assume assuming should they be the favorites? Based on the way, the east has been altered. That's fine. You can make them the favorites. But I don't think for a second. This is the obvious thing that we've seen the last four years. I'm sorry. Not in the east in the west fine. I give you the west. You wanna tell me? Oh, great Utah played great last night. That's cute. I get that. That's fine. I understand that. I understand any kind of skepticism about any team in the world beating the warriors. I'm fine with that. I'm with you. But I think the east is a lot more wide open than you and many others are given credit for that's all I just what we're gonna do aside that but at the end of the day, I to me it's going to be the south. There's always the side bet I want to make this clear, by the way, you get the Celtics get the field. Correct. Correct. Okay. I won't even give you the box. I'll give you the field. Yeah. Good. I liked that. Because now I have the wrap their insurance policy the sixer insurance policy, though, I tell you I do not see it what the Sixers the Sixers. They get Al class. You could tell when they play Boston. They're just not in the same class. I'm sorry. Yeah. I think the Foltz Simmons in the same back court at the same time thing is going to create a lot of issues. But hey, we're only two games into the season. We're having a good time. And let me get back to your calls. We'll get to the baseball and eleven will do football a little bit after that. Jay is in fort Lee, New Jersey. Hey, Jack, having good morning. Good morning. So, you know, all this talk two points. NBA? One quick went on the Red Sox. Francesa kinda hit it and against what he said. He actually really looking forward to the next Nick snatch. You know? It was pleasurable to watch the two teams play last night, which was a fun game where they're no longer carrying all these crusty older veterans are overpaid out over the next couple. But does she two teams run-up record played hard? Good coaching, exciting basketball. It's a welcome relief after the last fifteen years or so it's a positive. I mean, it's still not the ultimate of what we want and what we deserve. But yeah, I mean, you see to organizations that are younger more athletic and moving in the right direction. And I certainly a positive. There's no real star power there yet. But you got to create a decent organization before you started. Now trigger the Red Sox before you came on a red sock. Call her that called up, you know, talking about the Red Sox. Nobody expected them to do this that a little boat that could I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm bitter Yankee fan, I gave the red tractor. Krant great team. And they're showing you their great team. But it is a two hundred forty plus million dollar payroll seventy million hardly AKIs at all those years. The Yankees wanted all we ever heard talk about they bought the now the Richardson by the pet, but I think it should be understood they want one hundred eight games with no one was looking and everybody was really looking. And I understand how they weren't. They were matchup some people thought, oh, the AKIs compla- whether they might beat him after they won in Boston. But they are two hundred and forty million dollars payroll and the Yankees of ninety eight we're not the number one payroll in baseball, be seconds. So I don't think they're the little engine that could. Jay, I think what the Red Sox because I think the word underrated is the eye of the beholder. I think you know, what is underrated. I think we knew how good the Red Sox were they went one hundred eight games. But I think many of us not all of us were skeptical about a beating the Yankees MB beating the defending world champion Astros team one hundred three games. And I think that's why for a one hundred and eight win team in a way you can say they were underrated because there was a one hundred three win team. And there was a one hundred one team. You know what I mean? The teams surrounding the Red Sox that they had to face. We're not twenty games behind them. You know what I mean? And I think that added to the, hey, they're going to beat the, hey, they're going to be the Astros. Now one thing about buying a championship and the Red Sox payroll. I can't defend others. Right. So I can't defend the guy or gal who fifteen years ago said the Yankees are buying stuff. I can only defend my own opinion. And I never believed the Yankees will buy stuff, and the reason I would defend them as much as it back. Then I didn't like the Yankees. My view on them has changed since two thousand four which I've gotten into before and met fans yell at me for but what the Yankees did is they develop this really really good core, which nobody can deny Derek Jeter was developed. He wasn't bought Marianna Rivera was developed. He wasn't bought Andy Pettitte was developed. He wasn't bought. And then. Yeah, they added guys some of which were just keen trades. Paul O'Neil wasn't bought he was traded for and a keen trade for Roberto Kelly when Lou Pinella all he wanted O'Neill to do is become this power hitter. Who pulled he comes to the Yankees becomes a star Bernie Williams, by the way developed. Don't wanna forget him. Tino Martinez was traded for in a keen trade for Russell Davis and sterling Hitchcock, that's not buying in my opinion. Now did the Yankees by a lot of town and nine absolutely. I think oh nine more than any other year fits the by mold then the dynasty of ninety six ninety eight ninety nine two thousand and I think the Red Sox are very similar. They didn't by Chris sale. That's not true. They had such a loaded farm system. They had the ability to trade for Chris sale. They bought David price. Yes. They bought JD Martinez. Oh, yeah. Yeah. They bought those guys. But they developed Mookie Betts they developed Andrew Benintendi. They developed Zander Bogart's they developed Rafael Devers. So the bought thing. It's a rough one Stephen bayside our buddy what's up, Steve? Good morning. Good morning. Mr steve. How are you? I'm good. I'm good. I'd like to talk to you about the worst hundred eight when team history. Go ahead. Let me I'm going to get to a point here with this. But if let's say that the Red Sox and Yankees wanted to make a trade of their six seven eight nine hitters straight up regardless up position. Who says now if you're trading the six seven eight nine hitters of each team of the Red Sox in the Anki. I think the Yanks would say, I agree. Same same thing with the Astros who says now the Astros versus the Red Sox and the bottom of the seven eight nine. Yeah. Bottom. Lana. But I think the Astros say now probably because you're talking about what though I mean. More wind Gonzalez arisen ick Rettig Maldonado..

"It into their system and don't let them flourish but the fact that knocks by the end of the season was the rest offensive threat is impressive eighteen six nine athletic i saw one comparison we young paul george that's the guy and i don't think a field either for the sixers they brought him in for a second workout they like him we kinda got two runs weird like it doesn't look complete naturally kind of looks like a like a deer running for the first time out false looks but it works indeed come to when he first went to his body his first step is is pretty lethal it's a he's hard to stay in front of he's a good player he's the guy and i mentioned tomorrow night if they're both on the board that the sixers going to jumping jacks because they'll have their choice and i could see a lot of people not being happy with the sixers here if they don't if they pass on bridges i mean it's pretty clear that that and i think as mos rascasse a couple times those two parties want to be aligned bridges bridges mom works for the sixers he's a local kid he was great at villanova won a title he's known here he fits a need three and d can shoot he's a better defense part of the knox by a mile right now but i'm just thinking about this long term and i know we've moved towards talking short term with the sixers but just think about like this let's just say markelle fultz figures it out in two years they could have a twenty one year old foltz a twenty year old knocks a twenty three year old ben simmons and a twenty five year old joel embiid and hells dario twenty four to twenty six twenty six twenty five twenty three twenty one twenty there's just you could roll up that five in two years and compete with anyone if those guys reach their potential we already know what he's going to be we're very no with dario and simmons probably will be you could kind of play that out in your head but if false finds it and knocks reaches the potential people have put on them right now as draft processes is played out could you match that starting five foltz simmons knocks dario and beat you could dream on that and not need to add a highlevel free agent to make that thing into a special basketball team i'm going to i'm going to bet on the i said i'm going to bet on his upside if he's there at ten that's the pick for me i don't think he's going to be there at ten i have a feeling kevin knox is gonna go earlier eighteen year olds with that kind of ability teams argument that they're not gonna let that to keep going down the board i think bridges makes the most sense in terms of that's probably what's going to be there at number ten i'm the sixers probably jump on it but man if knox is there i'm taking kevin knox eight eight seven.
