To be honest, quite happy. Right, let's move on, shall we? Manchester City in action against Liverpool this weekend. It's a Premier League returns. Of course, a big month for city as it is, everyone. I suppose. Phil Foden out, of course, with appendicitis. How big a blow is this, James, do you feel? Well, probably not as big a blow as it could have been given that Jack Grealish has been preferred in that position for Manchester City for a while. I think there have been signs that Foden was starting to rediscover some of his best form and look, I mean, Guardiola is as much about trying to be unpredictable on the team sheet these days as he is anything else. So I guess it reduces one of his options in the wide areas, but I think the fact that the Grealish had arrests against Ukraine for England, he only came on for the final few minutes. Means he should be fresh for that game. So it doesn't weaken Manchester City, particularly so it's a blow, obviously. And a fully fit and firing Phil Foden is a threat to anybody who's obviously done a lot of damage to Liverpool in the past, but I don't think it will make a brighter chance to win in the game. Not the end of the world. No? Mahrez Grealish has been much better as Jim said. You know, hurling Alvarez can play out there called power market recommend the youngster, but not the silver can play out there. I mean, there's a whole host of them that can go and play weight. "The amazing thing to me was Gabrielle Jesus was the hero injured. He begat Eddie and ketcha. Lost this form, begat Leandro trossard, begat Reese Nelson, on this day in almost biblical lineage of arsenal goal scorers and in that moment, all we saw everywhere just the purest joy, the purest innocence footballers are heavily paid, massively their cynical, their professionals, but all of that in this moment, just the masks completely dropped. They were just reeling around, eyes full of wonder in unison with the arsenal faithful. At Charles watts tweeted, the more you look at the still picture of the goal the more you see, Gabrielle clapped over, odegaard flat on his back on the floor, Ben white trolling cherries keep a net out, celebrating in his face, georginio, charging on saliba going somewhere, Nelson, honestly, is the calmest of everyone, this Bournemouth surrender cobra is absolutely everywhere. A goal deep in what's called Fergie time Sir Alex Ferguson united as title winners would always find a way, never stop believing. Never stop going, never stop winning, can't stop, won't stop. David will ask the football club. Chasing that first title in 19 years. Just last second moment. I mean, I watched it. The collective memory that the fans, the players, forged in that moment. Can you name a movie? Name a movie that was better at the end than that because to be honest, my favorite movies are all they're all Holocaust one, so happy ending is not really my thing. But sportsman agrees. I mean, nearly every nearly every Hollywood movie ever made ends like that, roger. It was a wonderful moment. What made it so good is that it wasn't just pure happiness. It wasn't just pure joy. It was heavier than that. It was, it was a release of pressure. It spoke to the amount of pressure that they all feel under the amount of pressure that Arteta is putting on himself that he's putting on his club. It was a release of something phenomenal and deep and terrifying to them to be caught. And the moment that they escaped after that early goal, they escaped after going to kneel down, they escaped after, you know, as you said, every block, every shot going wide, everything not quite going their way as they tried to get in the game. That's what made it so good. But Arsenal fans just loving life at the moment, particularly there's a joke going around that the three last minute stoppage time winners that they've savored. This season all came off academy graduates, Rhys Nelson. Eddie and ketchup and the back of ME Martinez's head. God bless you ask the by the way from an Everton fan. What a game. The goal after 9 seconds, that's what's amazing about this epic game. That Bournemouth goal, a complete misdirection in narrative by the Premier League script writers will be totally forgotten. All we know is gunners, chiefs, Brendan Fraser, come back season, is upon us all. And I want to end this game by reading a Raven we got from GF OP, Paul Mellon, who wrote after the final whistle. He said football really saved me today, massive storms in Louisville, all of Kentucky had been power cut hundreds of thousands suffering, including mine, for well over 24 hours now, but Reese Nelson's goal made me forget about everything was one of a small few things to put a smile on my face. I love what you do. Keep on fighting the good fight. I'll just say, God, bless you, Paul. To you, and your family, big love to all of you in Kentucky and Arsenal fans. Just make meaning, make memories magnificent watching what your team are doing for you right now. Okay, roger Manchester City two Newcastle nailed the global order game of the week as Abu Dhabi owned Manchester City sea off the Saudi backed tune in what was a relatively routine win Phil Foden started the scoring leaving the type of streak between Newcastle defenders that is normally only reserved for his haircuts before steering one past Nick Pope and then in the second half, just two minutes after coming on as a sub, diminutive Portuguese indie rocker Bernardo Silva hit a quick catch and release to make it to and so pep keeps his hot perpetually agitated Iberian breath on the neck of his nephew, Mikel Arteta. That great English footballing centuries long tradition, the gulf Derby. Two clubs who hope that they will tear it opponents with the ferocity and tactical savvy that their teams of lawyers fight charge after charge in the courtroom get stuck in lord panic. Miguel Delaney, the independent journalist tweeted exciting game ahead, a one state owned club has been charged with multiple alleged breaches of Premier League rules. The other has just seen their owners contradict their legally binding assurances in a U.S. court, what a moment and yes, we have to mention Newcastle entered with the aftertaste of carabao cup defeat in their mouths and the looming threat caused by a case in the United States surrounding Liv gulf, legal filings, described a Newcastle chairman yassir Al ramien as quote a sitting minister of the Saudi government. What David piff was an instrument of the Saudi state after all. I don't believe it. Among the shocked. I mean, it seems we were assured at the time it took over. They were assurances, maybe aren't true, Devo. Ever to know. Yeah, assurance may not translate in Arabic in the same way as we understand it. But yeah, it's just tough. Yeah, it's difficult. I mean, this is what the Premier League has created. And this is what the Premier League is allowed to happen. I just really don't know what more can we say about it is becoming comical, absolutely comical. And of course, all of these findings that we're getting in this live golf case are fascinating reading. God, it's all I'll wait for. The Premier League teams who are not single state owned are said to be utterly livid, the matter will now be discussed at a shareholders meeting of the Premier League march 30th, Premier League in Newcastle, yet to make a comment, but the league's chief executive, Richard masters told the BBC back in November 22 21 that if his organization found evidence, there were state involvement in the running of Newcastle, quote we can remove the consortium as owners of the club. I asked you to be clear, can not imagine that ever happening, but the club's brand is about to take on really a real true darkness. But to the football and city, desperate to keep arsenal's heels at least in sight as they headed towards the horizon. Needed this Newcastle, even more desperate to find their forward gear spurs Liverpool in that mud fight for fourth place. They unleash the gimp, Anthony Gordon made his full debut for some Ginger mano mano with KDB and it didn't work 15 minutes city cruising to lead incredible feat from Foden and picked up the ball at the edge of the area charged through one two three four Newcastle defenders clipped at home with a heavy deflection off Batman four and three for peps first son and his best day though and he seems to be getting back there dudes like a human hand grenade. Yeah, I mean he is explosive. He has, he has the muscle reflexes, the insane muscle speed of something from wildlife, rod. You know, it's why fleas can jump so far and it's why leopards can spring so easily. And sometimes Foden is not human in terms of his explosiveness.

"Yeah, yeah, it must be absolutely fantastic to have that feeling because you know that and with a strong belief, you can turn the results. The way you want it to be. And on top of it, it's always the last second. As you said, Aston Villa, the tonight, the wawa, that's crazy, because it creates history around the squad in addressing but also the fans, something to get remember forever. And she said, well, we got it. We got the title because of those moments, because the 6 point because of the two moments, that's the way you feel. Yeah, strong, solid, invincible. That's what it is. I had a great chance just before, like, three, four minutes before. And it was stopped by defender, luckily. And I said, at that time, I said, um, that doesn't feel good. It's gonna be a draw. But when I saw the two minutes exercise, well, you know, the referee goes their way, you know, fairly. And they are the last corner last chance. You feel that something's gonna happen again. And that's what happened. Nelson scoring. Yes, the most must feel so, so strong rhino. This is what Arteta had to say after the game. Everybody's overwhelmed, a little bit. He was managed from the second of the game. It was an extraordinary day and a beautiful experience at the end. You lose sight of where you are. I started to run and I didn't really know what I was running to and bringing so one a kid here next to me, then I give it to security. But just looking in the faces of everybody at this time, the play is our supporters with that as much as that joy in their eyes. It's just great to live. Apparently that kid was older guard. Nate, I'm looking at it overall. The work that Arteta has done and this you can just see the spirit of this team from a Manchester City point looking in, how does that feel, given you were so close today to closing that gap? To be honest, it was arsenal against Bournemouth, so realistically you expect them to get the result. And for the comebacks that they've had this season, even with them going down like I'm not gambling man, but I still heavily fancied arsenal to go and get the result. And even though I had to come via something in the last kick of the game. That's the belief that they have that's how good they've been this season. And as you can see, having 30 shots in the game with nearly 9 with 9 on target. They were very much in the ascendancy as far as that match goals and the way that they pass in their problem. I can tell them that they have. You expect them to be able to score. So at times, you know, this game for man city I imagine would have been a bonus when they saw the bombs went up, but in the back of their minds they know the arts have done this before against better sides as well. So ultimately they carried on doing what they did and I've got to say as well, looking at the smile in there. I remember when I spoke to him after the FA Cup game, he was a bit miserable, but that moment in terms of seeing your team win in the last second. And that's one of the best feelings you can have within football. I'm sure all the guys would agree. You know, it's great when you win four zero 5 zero 6 zero. But that last kick of the game victory, like even makes the people appear quite grumpy, happy. So yeah, that's an incredible day for them. Obviously, city will be a bit disappointed overall, but I think they expected it because it was awesome at home versus Bournemouth. Jules overall, just to follow as the Premier League. This is so much fun, isn't it? Incredible. And to be fair, this is what we've had all season not just our stone, but in general, this season, like a crazy scene when you think about the form of Chelsea and the troubles that Liverpool had and the much the united ten high of process and city and arsenal plus seems like Brighton we deserve it. The late winners in some games, the crazy resort, the twist, the thing that they come back that you didn't expect, I think this has been an amazing season. Maybe not as amazing as if all the top boys had been at the bed and we've had three or four teams fighting for that title, for example, based it has been incredible and it is just that keeps on giving the promenade this season and today was again I think very much now. Okay, let's focus on the Manchester City game now. They are of course in action against Newcastle. Pec Guardiola's side would get a two nil victory, goals coming though, very different manners, film Foden, of course, going a brilliant individual or strike. And then bananas, they were the key goal because city as we've seen so many times really over recent weeks, we're kind of losing their mojo in the second half and in this case would be Newcastle had really tested if new cars are good finish. In fact, city would have dropped points in this tie. Nate and would we take the positives from them? Well, obviously we take the politics from this game that Citi got it done and got the three points, but there's got to be a concern. You know, are you watching that game? I was reminded of Leipzig and Nottingham Forest as well, where you're just not killing teams off in time sometimes. Well, I can't say we firstly. I'll separate myself from that. But what I will say in terms of city, they're on a very, very good run at the moment. I think that lost that loss against spurs and dragons forest is sort of affected a little bit, the way that people are seeing city. I think they've won 6 of the last 8. And that's coincided with other teams around them, dropping some points as well. So they've actually been quite

I don't like the fact that he's putting himself out there as I'm smarter than everybody else sort of thing. And the self deprecating kind of comments because the journalists are doing a job, right? They're asking a question, please answer the question, right? This whole idea, well, I'm going to maybe next time I'll just play with 9 strikers and we'll be up and down and what are we getting from this? Do we give them a pass because if path Guardiola? Because if it were moving or saying these things would be going crazy. It is disrespectful to the profession of the people that are asking a legitimate question. It is a legitimate question to ask, why did you not use? And you give whatever answer you want to give, I suppose so. But it is a legitimate question. Certainly when the other team has made substitutions and they have changed the game. And they've impacted the game. So as a manager, what is the thought process as to why you're not making your substitution? I don't know why that question would generate such a reaction for background. And the sort of attitude that he displayed in answering this question. Luis, you've got your coaching badges. What would your approach be to a question like this? I will be my straight answer. I don't do the changes because today I didn't see that aim was needed. I thought that the players that they were playing, they were doing a great job. I think that the transition of lepsy was just a good that I didn't want to use, I don't know, but for the scales and some other players and that's why I didn't do it. I understand what I say, but I think that sometimes paved the way that I see it that is frustrated, but even though they say that the play is because he's sending the message to the player to play that good job and he's what they had to do and everything. He also is frustrated because he didn't like the way that the team played. And his frustration comes out with that with that answer to the so at the end he's trying to bring that frustration towards the journalist instead told what they play. So his play is so I think he is a way of himself and try to release a little bit of the pressure. Nathan, what's your actual thinking then on the lack of subs used by Pep Guardiola in this game? I think I would have liked to have seen Phil Foden play, but

"Now the paper review on Bloomberg daybreak Europe. The news you need to know from today's papers. While most of the front pages here in the UK carry photos in England's victory over Wales in the final group game in their group at the World Cup, early and guarante has been looking at all of those forests and what stood out for you. Lots of puns. Loads and loads of puns and as we know, Anna watched it Stephen didn't care, and I was indifferent. But let me bring you some of those headlines. So England won three zero against their neighboring rivals with two goals from Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and one from full Foden who of course plays for man's city. Bosch says a Daily Mirror of course, a play on Marcus Rashford's name. The daily star says it's woozy Wednesday this is my favorite and estimates that thousands of football fans will be feeling hungover today following yesterday's match Tuesday night. Oh my God. School night. How dare you? And then the daily mail has this really optimistic headline right we've heard it all before three lines, three goals and three games for from the final. We're going to just not hear the end of it now, are we? We're going to have predictions from cats and octopuses on who's going to win. England's game against Senegal, which is kicking off on Sunday. Okay. Well, let's leave the leave the football there for now, although as you say, Leanne, it will return on to today's other headlines. The time says UK crypto hub ambitions are unchanged by the FTX collapse. This is really interesting. What's the latest here? Y'all know indeed Anna it's super interesting and it's in the times today and the government has repeated its goal of making the UK a global cryptocurrency hub that is even as a fallout from the collapse of FTX continues to echo around the world Andrew Griffith he's the economic secretary to the treasury and of course a city minister, said he really stood by bad ambition, though he placed the emphasis on feedback stable coins, government backed stablecoins rather than the more volatile privately created crypto assets, so he also raised a prospect that Britain is poised to relax the ring fencing of banks with retail and investment arms, which with the aim of reducing the risk and preventing banking collapses we've been talking about that all morning, haven't we? We just had Philip Ulrich on just explaining a bit more around the ring fencing. Leander Fernando times meanwhile, talking about how to think about policy in a poly crisis. That's going to say. No, it isn't. Well, you know, when I first looked at this, I had to Google it. I'm just going to confess, but the story in the FT by Martin wolf is looking at the poly crisis, which according to the historian Adam tosi, is a world of economic and non economic shocks which are entangled all the way down. So wolfer's arguing that the current interconnected problems the world faces means economists have to really think beyond the silos and analyze systematically across them. So this is just basically saying we have to look at a much broader view and he worries that the OECD is closing the unit set up in 2012 called the new approaches to economic challenges to do exactly that. He also looks at the OECD's latest economic outlook and tells about the economic situation right now and he concludes central banks must not take a peek in inflation as a sign that their job has done so basically look systematically across the board rather at things individually when it comes to the financial markets. Thank you so much for that review of today's newspapers. This is Bloomberg. Markets, headlines and breaking news 24 hours a day. At Bloomberg dot com the Bloomberg business app and good blooper quick take. This is a Bloomberg business flash. So I'm now from Bloomberg at business flash and we are 17 minutes into the European trading day in the stock 600 is up by a half a percent, the FTSE 100 up by three tenths of a percent the cat care on top 6 cents and the ZX up 7 tenths of a percent. So the focus once again, perhaps on global growth, although we haven't had a great deal of new stimuli here. We continue to think about China and how quickly or slowly it will recover from COVID and work through the COVID lockdowns to the other side of all of that. That's been the conversation through the start of this week, of course. We have some of the building blocks of the inflation picture here in Europe and we look ahead to Jerome Powell speaking later. That's where we are on the bigger picture. Where does that leave us will stocks in Europe then making modest gains U.S. futures look to make modest gains as well naturally are off earlier lows, so E mini is up by a quarter of 1% NASDAQ futures up by three tenths of 1% oil prices responding to something similar perhaps and are on the rise up by a percent on Brent at 83 83, so quite a lot of volatility on these oil markets a move up by 1% this morning, but that after some retreat yesterday, in terms of treasuries as we make our way towards that to comment from Jerome Powell later on today, 3.72% is the yield on the U.S. ten year to what extent are you thinking about higher interest rates in the short term but recession longer term and is that influencing your treasury market view? And to answer your question about whether it would work in terms of a Big Bang, it is part of a bigger deregulation package, but you're not going to get a Big Bang on the scale of Margaret Thatcher's 30 years ago because you can't deregulate on that scale in one day. And, of course, it comes with risks. So you have to ask, what would replace the ring fence to protect consumers through the recession? Would it be something like higher capital requirements that we've yet to find out? Yeah, and also we're completely forgetting the other element of the Big Bang in the 80s, which was not just deregulation, is also that it was a massive change in terms of electronic trading. It was really the start of the modern financial system as we know it now with the arrival of, well, mobile phones and computerization. And this is what businesses are complaining about. So you've seen in two separate surveys this morning. Business confidence in the UK has dropped because we're heading for a recession. You've got inflation at the highest in for decades, and businesses themselves say the government has no agenda to boost growth. In fact, this is what I heard from the horse's mouths when I was at the CBI annual conference last week. Does this actually have an impact for the Bank of England? Well, I think what impacts the Bank of England more are the shop price inflation figures from the British retail consortium that you mentioned earlier in the program. And what's really shocking about them is not just that you're seeing inflation in shops hitting 7.4% in November, which is the highest since the British retail consortium started taking these figures in 2005, but food price inflation specifically hit 12.4%. And this is what hits the poorest household the hardest because they spend a bigger chunk of their income on food and energy. They're having to spend more on that cut back on festive spending, so retailers are having to try to spread out the Christmas season earlier as you experienced in selfridges. Will it work? Didn't spend any money. So there you go, maybe tomorrow. Dancing puddings did not convince you. The business confidence surveys suggest it's not working. Okay. Lizzie Burton, thank you so much for being with us, Bloomberg's UK correspondent. And just on that Bank of England front, of course, Andrew Bailey was actually speaking to the economic affairs committee in the House of lords yesterday. And so at 9 ten, this morning, ten plus 9, a.m., London time, we have George bridges, lord bridges, who's the chair of that economic affairs committee joining us here live on Bloomberg radio to have a discussion really about what Andrew Bailey was saying in greater depth. I think it would be very interesting. This is Bloomberg. Let's get to the roundup of our newspapers. Of course, England's victory over Wales as we're saying on the front page is Liang garon's has been looking through the Liam monster out for you. Well, Steven, this every single headline that you can imagine, so England won three nil against a neighboring rivals that was Wales of course with two goals from man United's Marcus Rashford and one from full Foden who actually plays for Manchester City. I guess of your big football fan, you'll know that. Rash Bosch says a Daily Mirror in a play on his name, of course, Marcus Rashford and Wales in their first World Cup since 19 58 finished at the bottom of Group B but I love the headline Caroline actually spoke about the daily star says it's woozy Wednesday and I believe there'll be lots of hangovers in certain buildings today and offices and at home and the daily mail has an optimistic headline three lions three goals and three games to the final. Well, let's see. There's some fingers crossed. They'll be lots of optimism that that is possible. Okay, let's talk about the other headlines in the newspapers. The tines talking about UK crypto hub ambitions unchanged despite the FTX collapse. Yeah, exactly Caroline. So the time says the government has repeated its goal of making the UK global cryptocurrency hub. This is even as he just mentioned as a fallout from the collapse of FTX really continues to echo around the world Andrew Griffith as Lizzie just mentioned the economic secretary to the treasury and the city minister steady stood by that very ambition, although he placed the emphasis on Fiat backed stablecoins rather than the more volatile privately created crypto assets are really backing a government stablecoin and he also raises prospect that Britain is poised to relax the ring fencing of banks with retail and investment arms with the aim of reducing the risk and preventing banking collapse. So another bang as Lizzie was just talking about earlier. Yeah, fascinating softly and Gary and thanks so much for that review of the newspapers coming up next. We're going to be talking about the downturn in the tech sector. Many big companies slashing jobs Ireland is the European hub for those big global tech companies, so how is the country being affected by that downturn? We'll be live in Dublin with our bureau chief Moana conium next. This is Bloomberg. Not completing high school is more of a social thing than it was an academic thing. I came out in the 11th grade.
