More Memorial Day travel expected, despite high gas prices

"The big question on Memorial Day weekend is to drive or not to drive with gas prices painfully high triple-A says about 39 million people plan to travel over the long weekend Andrew gross says 88% of them plan to drive We've never had a Memorial Day travel period where so many people are going to be going by car At the same time you have these high gas prices Dan Johnson and Pennsylvania has a family graduation to attend I didn't have a choice and we just tucked it up and you know whatever the gas price is we have unfortunately we have to pay for Gross says the pandemic is part of the reason people just want to get out and go Oil market researcher Jim burkhart at S&P Global expects no relief from high gas prices through the summer Especially if Americans drive in great numbers which is what's expected to happen And there was little relief for flyers Prices for airline tickets are up to I'm Ed

Flyers Cheer Mid-Air as Pilot Announces That Masks Are Now Optional

"The transportation security administration no longer enforced the federal mandate requiring masks and all the U.S. airports and aircraft. Finally. Whoo. I think that is the most populous social media product now available on any micro blogging platform like the Twitter. It is, of course, the videos from on board those aluminium tubes. Aluminum. Is that right? Where people listen to their captain announcing, yep, it's over the insanity, the science denial of having a cloth mask on your face, except when you're eating or drinking when COVID magically disappears whilst you are eating and drinking is over. Why? Because a brave female federal judge struck it down saying that HHS TSA and the rest of the federal agencies had no mandate to force you to do

Ashley Varner's Start in Politics, Protesting Against Professors

"Protesting outside your professor's houses? Was that the way I interpreted that? Well, no, we were on campus, but we were right across the street from our professors protesting. Yeah, I've been involved in politics from a young age. I think my mother for that. She had Rush Limbaugh on in the house every day from the time I was 9 years old. I was listening to him, so I knew that I wanted to go into politics. I thought that I wanted to get out of Missouri for a while at saint Joseph was a small town for me at the time, and I just couldn't wait to get to Washington D.C.. Just as an aside, Doug now when I explain the difference between saint Joseph, Missouri and Washington, D.C. to each other, I say the difference is when you meet someone new in Washington, D.C., they ask, what do you do? And they are sizing you up to see, are you worth my time? And when you're in Missouri, and you meet someone new and they ask, what do you do? They mean, do you hunt? Do you fish? Do you have a boat? What do you do? So that's the very stark difference between the two and I appreciate Missouri more and more as long as I've lived in the swamp, but I got involved in politics. I campaigned with my local Republican Party in the 1996 elections. I've still in high school, I went to college Republicans at the university of Missouri. I was the chairman of mizu college Republicans when 9 11 happened. And we got flyers. We saw flyers up around campus that two weeks after 9 11, there were going to be protests against any war, you know, food not bombs, and it was led by our professors in the political science department. So as chairman of college Republicans, I said, nope, let's get together. We're going to have campaign sign making party pizza and we're going to make signs patriotic messages, God love our troops,

The Argument All Parents Can Use When Questioned About Vaccinating Their Children

"Again, it's unity project online dot com. If you're a mom, you're a dad, you're a parent and you're concerned and you're like, what can I do about these vaccine mandates? Well, they have resources right here from scientific papers to data analysis to ethical legal and social issues, they have a toolbox, which is really great. I'm just slipping the website right now. And all about supporting science, the conversation, quick links, online petition, to downloadable letter to schools to the parent non consent form to the downloadable flyer. A lot of stuff you guys put a lot of work into this. Congratulations on that. All right. Thank you. So you are the general counsel of this effort. So parents will say, all right, I'm all on board, but then I think I have my mind changed because the argument they always use is, well, you gave your kids the measles mumps rubella vaccine, didn't you? Which is rather an insult to anyone's intelligence. Every vaccine that's currently mandated, for instance, in the state of California. And it's the same kind of throughout the nation. Has had a minimum of a decade of study. Most of them have had at least 15 years before they were mandated. And those vaccines actually eradicated the underlying viruses, like polio, like measles, like mom's rubella, which we can not say about the COVID-19 vaccine, can we? We all know that it will not prevent infection or transmission. To even call it a vaccine by that virtue is nearly a joke. In addition to that, those underlying viruses with the other vaccines had actual significant risks for the entire population, especially the pediatric population, for instance, I think there was a 30% mortality rate with measles. 10% with chickenpox. I can go on. But what's very important is the fact that those other vaccines didn't pose the severe risk that we are finding are not in fact rare. That this particular vaccine is causing in children. We are not seeing the death that we saw. In fact, there's a report from who that shows that all of the vaccines combined throughout history throughout the world. Over the last I think it's from 1968, 53 years have had a million less deaths than just this past year from the COVID-19 vaccine. That should be astounding in a scientific world where if you have 50 deaths from any particular medical treatment, that product is

"And then what was the first steps of getting out because there are a lot of people today that are in your position. Now that you were in and i'm sure they'll learn something like that. What's a really good question and you know you make me think about that a lot. Here and I think. I think i really recognize there was something wrong. You know when you say when you talk about being a healthy person. Just thought in theory. I was my first year pro. I moved away move to the. Us from canada introduced to this kind of pharmaceutical world of muscle. Relaxers and sleeping pills and all this stuff again on the bus type stuff again. We're in the central hockey. Nhl so it's handing out prescriptions and stuff africans beers on the bus. The whole bit not saying that had wasn't drinking before i turned pro but i think it was like in that moment of taking on that role and then party you know. The party was now out of hockey. Now you're pro. You can go to the bars. And you know what i mean like. You're pro hockey player. It's gotta go drink beer and party and do the whole bit rate and then again this like the abuse of whether it was back in the day vallat and i remember that one week o on it was like my first real introduction to these anti-inflammatory world and the sleep aids and all this crap rate. I mean is garbage yet. Answer your question. When did i actually take initiative and do something about it and clean myself up. I was twenty eight years old. Still with the philadelphia flyers one more one way contract with the flyers and i decided to turn in my one way contract with flyers and to embark on this quest of him healing. What i did. I had a relationship with cannabis in a misalignment mushrooms. Previous to my retirement but again there were there were using a very recreational ways no a real understanding of the plant medicines themselves but basically i found myself in a crossroads when i went into the off season in two thousand ten where had a shitty year on my mind wasn't in in. It only played seventeen games guy. New coach didn't see a need for me was kind of like a crossroads of my career but also a crossroads. In my life i went to the off. Season sat down with general manager. If i went back home to winnipeg and he knew where. I was mentally and spiritually. I think he kind of scene. I was a warrior. But i was like you know what's going to happen next year. May go down to the minors and have to fight all these young punks. That are knocking on my door. Or am i am at peace with what i've accomplished you not saying that. It's you know in the grand scheme of the hockey world. That's anything significant. But i'm at peace with potentially being in the minors next year and be one year contracts. You know the next three or four or five years and being that guys bouncing around so going to the off season i guess putting some energy to the universe. It was kind of like. Give me a sign what to do. I don't know if i want to go to the minor leagues and five. I'm going to have to pay me. Five hundred fifty thousand dollars to do it. But what i wanna do. You know what. I mean about my past this. I'm kind of asking for answers two weeks after that meeting with paul holmgren the draw manager go back home to winnipeg give them my phone rings and homers calling me. He's like what's up. I was like hey homer are you doing. He's like listen he's leg..

"It no and certainly and when you talk about successful obviously you can talk about it from two different ways. If you're looking strictly at stanley cups yeah you can. You can argue all day about that. But from a financial perspective and from a market perspective the flyers have been one of the most successful teams in the nhl since nineteen sixty seven. I mean they've they've consistently sold out that building Almost year after year Up up through the last few years but in terms of minor hockey you had to a pretty serious minor hockey franchises in philadelphia after the flyers. Were already there. You're the firebirds run for about six years in the city in the seventies and then you had the phantoms run for about thirteen years in the city from from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand nine and both of them had different levels of success. The firebirds were pretty successful ultimately relocated to syracuse and the phantoms. Were perhaps the most successful american league franchise of their thirteen years. I mean they they really helped prop the ahl up at a time. They were battling for minor leagues premacy with the international league. So it's interesting to see like you said the that philadelphia support two different teams A major and a minor league team and one of the reasons is because the two don't really compete with one another at least in the modern hockey market back in the nineteen thirties. It was much different. But in in the seventy s you know a minor league team Was a ticket for minor. League team was much cheaper than nhl team and for sure in the nineties when the phantoms came about i think at the time flyers tickets were maybe like forty fifty dollars for lower levels seat and a fan of stick. It was five dollars. So you're not competing for the same consumer at that point so from a business perspective does make sense in a hockey mad market to to to put a minor league team to support the major league. Team it really helps generate the next generation of fans who at least in the seventies with the firebirds could not even get ticket to the flyers because they were winning stanley cups and sold out every night and in the ninety s may not have been able to afford flyers tickets necessarily and so it really creates an opportunity for families young kids to see a hockey game in a way. That doesn't break the bank. Eighty costs you know thirty forty dollars for family ford to see a game for the phantoms. Let's say in the nineties whereas it costs hundreds of dollars to see a flyers game family of four and so you see from a business perspective. How it makes sense especially market as big as philadelphia. Yeah sure that makes sense an and but it's also interesting dynamic though is a little different than say here in chicago right. So the the wolves right became more of a suburban lower cost fun filled minor league heavily. Promotional dynamic versus the in city big market if you will Blackhawk thing the the geography and the stadium situation in philadelphia. Quite different right. Absolutely you've got what's called the sports complex philadelphia and it's it's funny. Because when i was a kid. I never understood that. That was unusual. That a city put all of their sports stadiums in the same little area. I would go to utter cities and you know you go to new. York and madison square garden was in the middle of manhattan. And yankee stadium was over an east and i. I don't understand why you wouldn't put all the stadiums together. And i never understood that philadelphia was unique to that and so people outside philadelphia may not realize that you know at one point..

"Skeptical and hopeful and disappointed and so it did create some semblance of room for another team. But i'm not sure of the world. Hockey association was the right choice especially with how they eventually ended up spending money on on players but it but it does create an interesting Segment of the market When you're talking about Can philadelphia handled two major league teams. Just a few years after the flyers started sure enough. The answer was no but you wouldn't have been able to guess that at the start. Yeah well you want to talk about the start their first ever game. Certainly they went out to Do warm ups and You know something that ice seemed a little echoey and you could feel it Being hollow underneath and dive sand piling up a little bit of background of what the civic center was in relation to say something like the spectrum because senate will your it was a convention center. It was it was not a sports arena. They tried to outfit it to be a sports arena and so You know ice-making was not nearly as modern in nineteen seventy two as it is now and surely not in a building that's not meant to handle ice rink. So you know the sand piling up the corners and the ice downing hollow and You know derek sanderson. Who was the big pickup for the blazers off from out of the boston bruins organization. It goes up to the ref. Says i'm not sure this is safe to play on. The refugees is sweating bullets. And he's nervous says we can't cancel the game. It's opening night you know. We're gonna have to refund everybody all. We can't do that. we gotta play the game. You know this is a brand new league. Everyone's counting on us so this area they go to the locker room while they're in the locker room they hear are very loud crash and they run out and they see that the zamboni has fallen through the ice cut huge hole in the ice and pretty much. They had to cancel the game and give everyone their money back and sure enough the souvenir orange pucks the date given out to everyone when they walked in. The building ended up being thrown at the players on the ice in as as philadelphia fashion. Yeah well. I'm pri pri pri pri staging the the The love affair with santa claus at the old veterans stadium. But of course. But so. But i mean you could not have picked a more Is a debut right And i just set the tone. I guess How do you so i mean. Obviously we. we've talked about that. what with with. "The nhl owners and really put them in their place and made them think much deeper about you. Know how do we expand this league. I how do we make it a true national league. And that's where the first conversations the for her serious conversations of expansion really started. I mean it wasn't until probably nineteen sixty four nineteen sixty five the league at least considered doing it and then of course everything moved pretty quickly after that you were not using his provincial. Right with p. right. I mean in terms of the the all boys club and and and and sort of And look at in terms of the names right even even after the expansion stuff. They weren't sort of geographical Directional definitions. Right there were these smites and the the norris's right and all these sort of right very sort of old time crusty you know cigar chomping kind of you know but but i look and sixty seven right. Obviously you were not part of the The picture on this This great little planet of ours at that time. But but i suspect as you went back and sort of delved into sort of that expansion in the reasons the rationales for it right a lot of it being geographical and television and other revenue streams. And that kind of stuff. I begin a sense of how you discovered or open up. shall we say the pandora's box of The the history of of hockey and philadelphia professional semi pro. Whatever before that. Because i think a lot of people in today's generation today's hockey fan. Kind of think that philadelphia. Kinda just you know. It was sort a A white hot comet that landed a with a a a major imprint into the into the earth's surface. They are in metro philly in sixty seven which obviously is not the case right and and and let me start on that with you. Made a comment about the placement of the six new teams nine sixty seven and one of the interesting things as i did. The research for my first book was the reasons behind why each of those teams got placed and for most of them had nothing to do with married or ownership group. It was very political as one might expect. A los angeles was pretty much guaranteed a team because they had to team in los angeles to satisfy the network executives. They had to put a team in the bay area. That's where oakland came from. Saint louis only got a team because one of the big shots in the nhl in our own the narcissism the words is owned the saint louis arena and they wanted to. they wanted to get rid of it But they didn't have a buyer so they placed team in saint louis contingent on whatever owner eventually applied for that team within purchase the arena from them so essentially. They traded their votes for a for expansion in exchange for guaranteeing that a team would be put. Saint louis they'd granted a team to saint louis before there was even a potential owner incite. Which is a pretty big risk. On their part in the first place worked out for them of course and philadelphia for example they were not supposed to be the last team chosen. Baltimore was really supposed to be the last team chosen along with pittsburgh to be in the eastern division or in the eastern segment of the expansion division They're only reason they ended up going with phillies..

"All captured the attention of sports fans throughout north america. Well i was in the record business years ago. A friend of mine and i were having a drink to the new york city and he said look. I got an extra ticket to the garden tonight. the rangers are playing montreal. And i said what's that all about and he said well. It's the hockey league which to mass yoko. Everything else do that night. So we went to the old guard. And i fell in love with the game. Instantaneously is without question. Great a spectator sport. I had ever seen the buildings or foam. They'd been full for years. And years and the competition between the six teams who was absolutely at its highest writing that popularity. The time had come to enlarge the sixteen league. I heard that the national hockey was expanding from six to twelve teams. I thought that it would be great. To apply. for a franchise. Ed snider who was working with the philadelphia eagles at the time thought the city of brotherly love with fall for hockey just like he did. But other cities were applying and philadelphia's his in hockey was not good all the other applicants for the six franchises were from cities that had pretty successful minor league hockey operations for for a number of years toward off was the only one that hadn't they had seven or eight minor league teams that it failed or been one quickly aborted attempt in the thirties to have it. Nhl team so there was no history of philadelphia really being an effort at all. However ed snider along with bill putnam and others persisted and on february ninth nineteen sixty six. Their hard work was rewarded. This is the year of the great expansion for the first time. The league will be composed of tall teams. Clarence campbell presider ads. "When they were doing production of card they when the episode with the rikers Michael Dorn in the visited the set and so these people are still a super closed in real life. I would not be shocked to see a wharf or laforge comeback into Picard at the same time or maybe separately but it was. It's definitely going to happen. It's just a matter of when and WHO and he even said. Burton goes into while if if Jordan did come back. This is what I would want him to do. I'd want him to be teaching and passing on the knowledge that he learned throughout his career. So those are very specific notions and ideas. That he wants so wouldn't surprise me if it's already in the works However sad news the have been doing although writing cards season two but they haven't actually gone into shooting and they were planning to do it this summer but it's been pushed back to Kobe. Nineteen for safety reasons and I completely agree with that. It's just it's a bummer. Because there may be some big gaps between Picard season one and hopefully discovery season three comes out on time but this is hard to say because of the safety issues with Kobe. Nineteen and social distancing however it is nice to see maybe we'll get some Burton action in the future speaking of Kovic. Nineteen kind of wrecking everything. We're going to start out with some a little bit bad news in rapid with some good news as we finish this relaxed fit episode is that. I'm sure you've probably already heard but comic con. San Diego has officially been canceled. He was originally going to be for the weekend of July. Twenty third through the twenty six and in a I mean I I agree with shutting things down I know that seems super far out but to have that thousands and thousands of people from all over the world is a smart concept. And if you're angry about that I mean it's it's for the greater good and trust me. Nobody understands cancellations more than me personally. I'm a marathon runner and it's very difficult to plan for a marathon. Because you have to have at least three or four months of training all these cancellations of come out and it's like wow. I've just wasted the last three or four months for nothing and I'm registered for the Chicago Marathon. The beginning of October and then one called the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October. And everybody's gas because it's like they're probably going to be canceled. Should I even begin training? I understand cancellations and how frustrating they can be and then you lose a bunch of money on plane tickets and hotels but there is a little bit of good news out of this. Is that the Convention Center that they've been using for the San Diego. Comic Con has actually been turned into temporary hospital in slash cove in nineteen testing area. So I think that's an amazing use of those resources instead of remaining empty and it's frustrating. But you have to think the quicker we can beat this the quicker we can get back to normal so. I know it's frustrating some bad news. However here's a little bit of good news and to help again kind of in the same vein as the cocktails with Kate is that there are a lot of new streaming services that are coming out with this watch. Party APPS and watch party capabilities one of them is from paramount and they will be holding live virtual screenings of Star Trek to wrath of Con. The closest one will be April twenty fifth through an APP called. Cya Live not cover here. It's called Cya. Live and I think you can pay a dollar ninety nine to be a part of this live streaming and it seems a little much but they are bringing in two special guest host. They are the host of the inglorious experts Whose names are mark. Altman and Darren door chairman and they will be doing a intro to the movie and they're doing a QA afterwards but the cool thing about Cya live is that you can talk and communicate throughout the movie with the guest and then with whoever's involved while watching the movie so it's a cool concept at kind of in the same vein as the Netflix. Watch party. No you haven't heard of this. It's a chrome extension. The netflix came out with that. If you're on a desktop or laptop you can share specific code. Your friends and you can watch Netflix together. In this kind of private room where you can chat and talk about which. I think is totally cool and I need to do that. Because there's so many good Star Trek episodes that I can watch with some of my friends so I encourage people to do that. He doesn't have to be Star Trek but try to watch party together. I thought about doing that something on like an instagram live. Kinda just held the social distancing and maybe not have people seem so far apart and alone so you can do that on net flicks however Amazon prime is starting to work with twitch. Now I've never used twitch before because I'm not a huge Gamer. But they're trying to work out. Some Dior Amazon prime members can use the twitch software to have the same thing. Have the same watch party. Nothing's been announced yet. I think it's still in Beta testing. So if you WANNA be a tester for that I would definitely go to twitch DOT TV if your name is on. Prime member go to their main prime website and see what can be done but but circle back around go to see. Why live two dollars a ticket to watch that wrath? Akon live with those podcasting guys and there are other streaming cons that people are starting to come up with like I think cameo did on April eighteenth they did this massive iconic characters virtual panel and it had of course had Jonathan Facts. And so they had a lot of by common characters. Show up so I don't know if you can go online and watch that. I think it's for Free Cameo but upcoming is that on April twenty fifth and May Second. There is a kind of a virtual. They're calling it a hollow Khan and it's through the lambda quadrant podcasting network. They're going to have special guests. Nicole Day Bauer. She Played Dax on designed for the season. I think it's a neat idea to kind of check in and even though we have to be distant physically doesn't mean we can still interact and attend these quote unquote virtual COMECON panels. So definitely check them out like I said it's on Twenty Fifth April twenty fifth of May second through the Lambda quadrant. So I think that's all the news we're gonNA cover today but let's wrap up this episode and move on. I'm under if I can come cheer up but I still had to find something new in this one for you to recall your wars Freeman. Who so free as of the waves always ready steady boys any real five. I'm recalling out again so I'm in the middle of researching and getting ready for Borg Three while I can't believe it's already been to other episodes and in that episode we'll cover The main meat of all board history mets the twenty fourth century as well as the heavy hitters Captain Picard and Captain Janeway. The main two captains. I've interacted with the board more than anyone as well as a little bit of Cisco he doesn't have a lot but we'll just throw it in there because it fits neatly snugly in that twenty four th century once again if you guys WanNa debate or one comment on the show. Please hit me up at Omega Particle podcast on Instagram. Or you can email me at Omega Particle podcast Edgy. Jimoh DOT COM. Feel free to reach out. It's not like we have anything to do. Our lifestyles are super busy right now. Just WanNa say thank you for listening and tuning has only been a blast. We'll get back and I can't wait to cover our conclusion of the Borg series. Now remember second sort of the right straight onto morning.

While he was here doesn't how many times how many games has been bishop. goalies have been good here. Yes yeah five. Five years tenure net. Before that. That's the real reason I bring that up because this is the sort of thing that when I used to write for the Royal Half Dot com you Takafuji. This is the sort of thing that we would. This is our bread and butter. Daniel Taylor and I see you're right but I went on record at the time when he and quick were. Both Berry Bros Roster bust but this is. The one with the METALLICA helmet But but this is my I put. I put it on twitter. This is my challenge. Anybody listening in anybody falls Manzar. Don't well don't wait for me and Dave to have our producer to have this conversation This kind of stuff that that kings twitter and kings vans need right. There's there's already there's three or four or five or six accounts and they're all equally supportive cocaine. That's fine. Yeah dig deep into the misery of being a sports fan King Sans. We've just completed the greatest decade in franchise. History it's going to. It's a tall order to have a better decade gate them the one we just had Adam Hauser all. That's that is a good one. How many games twelve one all right there you go you? He gave him eleven too many Ou six goals against he doesn't point zero eight goals get him quick and wasn't him. Quick and Taylor and people are fighting over who should be the starter because it wasn't two thousand eight two thousand nine that now five to okay. I was a little bit earlier but anyway yeah he used stability with me played against him in squirts. Really wow human. His brother Sylvian CUCCIA. Who was unbelievable and unbelievable hockey player? Well that's okay. So I went went to his brother surveying was set our house when they came to play us. He's from Sault Sainte Marie Ontario and then we would go to saint. This is one of ten and we would go to sue St Marie and stay with his family and we used to watch hockey night in Canada and they have it on in French. And so that's the memory ahead of Dan Colucci better memory than most kings. Ah John Sebastian Ban. Wasn't he in a commercial. Eric Harrisburg airstrip is all right. Yeah no it wasn't in the In the commercial whether like having some sort of a yeah contests contests you'll mama offers anyway. Whatever so we go to this game sting wrapping stingrays were so bears? There's none of this and this is why I now hold on Jon Klemm. I think you know your junk clatters. I like all right. The point is none of those guys could shoot and you could tell really quickly like. Oh yeah this is. Why they're in the east and Brodsky's little brother? I think it was. His little brother was playing on the solar bears. And I'm watching the game and it's like back and forth back and forth to sooners some lumbering goons. That are never going to make it but some guys like some wheels is the hands but they just. They don't have the full package. No Yeah Yeah. They've got one or two things but it was so clear right you watch the H. L.. Sometimes you're like Oh Martin. I play Mary okay. Fine whatever follow back from whatever. The Easy H.. Jelly like wow. La Kings finished off the month. The year and the decade by scoring four goals in the first period and defeating the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on New Year's Eve Dave Joseph Join me following the game for rambling breakdown and the State of the Kings. It's take two in a day late. I hope you enjoy it all the same check. Check check take to to We are high above the ice in the Bob Miller Miller Press Boxes Staples Center for the second time tonight. Because I never hit the record button. Happy New Year. Everybody you're about to hear Dave and I. I have a conversation for the second time. Yes it's better the second time. It is actually gigs. You can take all the mess ups Game Day four or I. It was amazing repower eagles. Yeah shorthanded salute. There's one mistake that didn't make it so I already. That's right. How about the play of? Ah someone played great tonight for the Kings. A lot of people did but but one person in particular Jesse who am I thinking of Adrian Campaign. That's correct it's higher symphonic. Oh Yeah I don't know how you knew that. But didn't did he not play great. He did great shorthand Goal with Blake Lozad. I thought he was flying up and down the wing tonight. Look fantastic tastic. Yeah and one of the things that I'm really enjoying about both Lozad. An campaign on this is this didn't make our first version of this conversation right. Both of them seemed to be controlling controlling the play with the puck and without the puck right so there I I don't know how well the communicate on the ice but there there seems seems to be and maybe this is just the McClellan system being implemented better but the players seem to know better where to go in order to receive passes on giving go yeah cycle play. You know there was a play even tonight. I don't remember who was the second goal I think I don't remember which one it was but I said there should be at least three assists on that I play and I think it was. Maybe I follow tip the shot in from the from from Dowdy of the point okay. Where's he set the play right? He got it back onto the point point over the Dow shot and then he tipped it. And you're just like okay. That's a four out of the five is touch the puck within three seconds of it going in the back of the net. Now obviously that's not unbear- or Lozad but there are the campaign the two-on-one Cambay turns his back turns. His back opens himself up for the one time. He doesn't take a one timer but yeah absolutely. They're all playing with a lot more confidence in the power play. Obviously these goals tonight so it makes it look a lot better and they'd been struggling on special teams. It's good to see that hat. But I like the formation of power play with doughty on the top essentially running the top of the umbrella. And then you've got copay on one wall. I follow on the other wall and was to fully down low. Yeah I certainly for one of them because he scored that goal way. So I. I liked that Arrangement I like that alignment. It seems to work a little bit Little bit better before the game talking Nixon Famer and that's right and the great their eleventh yes there I- sharp suit tonight to buy as always of course I commented to both of them that obviously the team playing very well five on five but struggling on special teams obviously tonight and you nailed it they. Those teams were special shorthanded goal. Yeah even strength goal three power three count them three power powerplay goals. I mean who would have thought not about going out with a bang. Yeah no for the last game of the month of the year and I mean Martin Martin for what is going on there well with an absolute blistering shoddy bar down. We've seen it Ontario million times. Yeah like ten or twelve. But we've we've seen that shot. We've seen the one time where he has in the power. Play that this is gonNA sound stupid. Oh here we go but what I liked about it. That it wasn't was that it wasn't a one timer. No it wasn't wasn't because I now I guess it's fair. I watched the last two games on my laptop on the road Or one of my laptop wanted but I was. I was with my dad. My Dad Dad in South Carolina. I wasn't really paying as close. Attention is your dad. Your Dad know it is. That's what you were saying your Alice I did. That's exactly what I said. I'll explain later. But so the first game right as it at his house with you know my step mom my sisters and the dog you step mom no not really. But then the second game we went and saw the Carolina stingrays play the Orlando Solar. Bears H. L.. Yes and then watch the game on my laptop op while also watching the Clemson game yet. So divided attention volumes weren't graves findings clemes now but you know exciting it. I suppose was game anyway. Regardless the point is I haven't really been paying close close attention the last two games so tonight to see that power play into C Burke set up for that shot. It seemed to me that in the last game and again not paying super engine they were trying to force it. A Lot And my I was getting sort of annoyed because I was thinking like it. It seems like the the reason they called him up the reason they got him and all the hype has been big booming. Shot from on the left side right handed shooter. This is the same bill of goods I was sold on Ilya Kovalchuk and the argument then was we'll have our own version of Ovechkin and he's got to set up an ovechkin office and I was like listen as much as I have. My gripes with Ovechkin and the fact that he shoots too much like he is ovechkin. It might pass Gretzky on the career goal. So he's probably the greatest goals. Yeah the past twenty right and the fact that he is that because he shoots do much irrelevant the fact is he. He's that guy so I quit trying to give me be grade ovechkin meat and telling me that it's you know ovechkin stake like it's not you know right. Knock it off. So that's like I said it's dumb as it is the fact that I scored in quote unquote his own way. Whatever you WANNA call it like I I liked that it was like okay? He's not being forced. You know they're not putting in Ovechkin win on them and making them wearing Ovechkin Jersey lovie all I liked that they said that I and I said it on this podcast. I liked that. They called him up and gave him an opportunity because he's not one of the one of these so-called guys that's in the pipeline. He's not. He's not jared Anderson Dole and he's not a Rasmi Campari. He's not any of those guys. He's the guy that they picked up. He wasn't drafted by the Kings right. It wasn't groom by the nuns. A free agent right. So he's just another somebody but yet he's lighting up Antero. So why wouldn't you give him you you to make your team better. And I love the fact both of the goals he scored against San Jose was it yup right out front on the doorstep. You know crafty goals. Whatever you WANNA call it but not again not getting type? So I like that and also Martin Kirk now tied with Ilya Kovalchuk on goals for the season so three goals in three games. Yeah that's not bad. No and and your boy. Yeah I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up number thirteen. Kyle Clifford effort. Yeah no amazing opening the scoring with a goal short side. I mean not show two or three shots tonight that were just oh my campaign shot clippers shot to fully have the the. I don't even know what you call it. The rebound and I follow the tip in and I had the blast effort effort Clifford Grey three. Just yeah you know. Where's that every night? Well listen I you know. I'm not captain positively. I'm well aware that you know that for the last month or so. I have been. You've turned over a new leaf. Well yeah so I talked to Sean Tierney today. A From charting hockey. He's A. He's a hockey nerd. He makes makes graphs. He's taken the game that we've all love to watch for thirty years and boiled it down into Matt. Oh yeah it is but one of the things that the math says I'm told is that this team has been unlucky now now however you want to our you know I know you're rolling your eyes and I get it and part of my problem with it make your own luck yes to a certain extent but you look had a guy like wagner last year. He scored twelve goals this year. He's got three and you go. What happened he get he get worse in the four months in between the season three months whatever whatever did he forget how to shoot or is some of it a little bit in his head a little bit the competition? He's playing as a little bit harder and there's a little oh bit. Just you know luck is such a crappy word for it but the point is they've been playing well they just haven't been finishing teams regress regress they get teams that that struggled a score find a way to score and teams that are scoring a bunch. It dries up eventually so I am willing to believe that between Kovalchuk leaving the team and a lot of these guys having more opportunities to play together learn each other's plus right like campaign lozad. I don't think connect on that goal a month ago or two months probably they probably not even out there together right but now they are right now they know where each other chemist and so you're seeing plays like that happen more frequently. Yeah sure so I mean I. Will they be the Toronto Maple leafs. No they're not ever going to score three points six goals a game or whatever ever it is right. They don't have an Austin Matthews. They don't have a Mitch Martyr and they don't have a job to Vera's but can they score more than two. Yeah Yeah I think so. They did tonight. I'd like to see that more consistently I mean I think but I've said this on the pod to this. This team goes rose as Copay tars line goes so copay scores. You normally are GonNa win the game if he doesn't score you're hard pressed to find other scoring and tonight they got scoring from other people. which is what this team needs? They need that depth scoring so you get goals from work from Clifford from I diabolo. WHO's on that Koper line? But.

"Brother today. We're taking a break from talking and complaining and obsessing and instead were shouting out things other people are doing that. We think think you'll find is useful or enjoyable as we do. We call this our roundabout roundup and earlier. This week. We talked about the Tesla dealership. uh-huh Terry and Nicole have visited and apparently there was more to this. meet up now and Nicole Guinness share. There's something else. She discovered mall another store that caught our I. Well we as as we walked past it together. We we both said let's check this out. IT IS A. I don't know how to pronounce it. It's called Yoga. Though I WANNA say why. Oh Gee I B O and and it's a store that sells being bagged products but not like long as the other beanbag products. But they're not like the Chunky hard beanbags. They're they're very big. Furniture is a not beanbags. Guy Rovers. Yeah yeah so there's different sprint types of products. So there's the bean bag chairs there's the beanbag couches. There's pillows there are various lap Dassen MHM. There is weighted blanket. And let me tell you I would. This is just like a dream come true I would love to have a beanbag chair to sit on and do my work on it. My guess because it's so uncomfortable sitting in a chair and actually got to try it and I believe Terry has photographic of that and Unfortunately unfortunately they're not on the west coast though so I believe you can order them online. I'm sure I'm sure you could. Yeah I bet this shipping is rather I mean these sound like these. These are be heavy. I think the bean part would definitely be like I don't I don't know how that would work If they're so an it's that material it's up fabric. That is not like cotton fabric that they're on the traditional beanbags but it's that kind of stretchy nylon tight family you know the uh-huh soft and anyway that's for the beanbag chairs the other blanket since I've had ya but that's my shadow. TODAY IS YOGA DOT com. We're very cool. And they came in lots of different different colors and it was just I think the main item was like just a big bean bag. That was like maybe the size of two being bagged shares. Would you say but just like one big apiece and you could. They had a thing that you could put down the middle of it to be like a little rest. You know armrest or back rush to make it into a couch or you could set it up on one one end and then as you sat on it it sort of became a chair now this word wealth for many people in our party it did not work. Well for me I think is too small. Could just kinda tipped the tipped over and I was laying down. So what's bad about that. Yes that's very good for lounging and very calm. Yes like strong. Thank you know. My son used to be so much into beanbag chairs he would've loved and it's also if you have a kid who likes to throw themselves down. I know I've seen products sort of like this for them. That you could just put this in their room and then they can just you know throw their whole body down on it. It would be very therapeutic. I think and comfy I think incur wide Martin Looking. Yes yes so if I you know I would definitely if you're in the market for that sort of thing or if you want to you know furnish a kid's room Minna will way might be something to take a look at if you live on the east on the east coast of the United States or don't have a problem with large shipping fees. Yes I guess things. I don't know maybe they impact in some way. Maybe they just give you a bag of beans and cover some assembly required all right. Well how about you not Nicole. Terry what are you what are you. I am shouting out a little experiment that I'm doing. I have as I've said here before. I think Warren Converse sneakers converse low tops sneakers for a very very long time. They are very lightweight and comfortable on my feet and I like the way being looked on. I feel Kinda cool in them but as Nicholas pointed out to me many times. They don't have much foot support and I think as I passed sixty walking in my little converse uh-huh tops. I think the time came when my feet said Yep Nope we need some support so I started to have sort of a pain in my right foot that comes and goes goes and when I wear my I had those mentioned my clogs a couple of weeks ago when I wear my ice clogs with the foot support. I don't feel the foot pain when I wear. My converse is a lot I feel it. So it's it's like old lady get yourself some arch support so I was looking around the internet trying to find shoes. That would be supportive to me and still kind of cool and I've also been looking around for things that are made in the USA. Thought that would be a good thing to look for and I founded PF flyers. which were thing? When I was a kid? They were shoe. Kids Dwarf for like basketball and activities They have a line that is made in the USA. Not all their shoes are but they have some that are considerably more expensive expensive but they're made in Boston so I thought well you know what I'm they had some that were on sale so I treated myself to a pair of it's called Sandlot is the style and it is in their made in the USA line and it's a high top sneakers that's all black. They sort of looked like boots a little bit if you are wearing them underpants. Nobody can see the big flyer logo on the side. So I've just gotten them a few days ago. I have not worn them a whole lot but they do. They do have some good support for my feet in fact I think the PF stands for Posture Foundation. So which is not cool. Which is why they're called flyers instead but They do feel very supportive and the high top. Also kind of straightens out my my leg I think in a way that will be useful and I will also say that the company I mean I did buy them in a sale when I got them out of the bag which the presentation is amazing. Very Very Sturdy Nice shoebox and then it came with like a canvas bag on top of instant of tissue paper and then the the shoes were in a plastic bag. I took them out of there was like a little smudge on. The logo will On the side and there was what looked like maybe a little little extra glue on the toe of one of them and so I you know. Ask their went onto their website and ask the customer shimmer support. People how I should clinic. It's all leather and You know they. They gave me some advice and they also gave me a twenty dollar refund. So you know mobile. It'll money off of them so I thought that was very responsive customer service and I was very happy to see that so I think I will buy shoes from them again and I look forward to breaking these in their little stiff right right now but I may be changing. My allegiance might in Congress. Shoes are sitting here listening to this. Going about been so loyal for nate. My feet hurt so these other shoes will not make my feet hurt. I think I'm on the switch. So if you two are looking for something a little more supportive board of and still a little bit cool and maybe made in the US. Check out the flyers line made in the USA. I think they're owned by new balance. which also has made in the USA shoes amongst their lineup? So I will report back on how they're feeling at a later date. And what have you got Catherine. Well I will just mention that you know so. It is still pumpkin season even though Halloween has happy Thanksgiving last forever. Yes we still have Thanksgiving coming. And and my husband discovered this tree at Williams sonoma and he found like they have the recipe there and then they sell how the couple of the main ingredients that you need to make them. They are called Gooey pumpkin bars and they are quite delicious and and definitely they are gooey. They are they case in a good way They they kinda taste like the the filling of a Pumpkin Pie. But it's in like a bar with this kind of spiced crust I want want those right now. How I would describe? And they're quite good and you really like a tiny piece is very satisfying so So yeah legally pumpkin bars. I will link to the recipe Williams Sonoma. And you like I said you have to buy these particular ingredients audience how Williams to make them. I mean maybe there's a way that maybe there's a way to finesse that kind of thing lows lows Pumpkin and I love spice and I love things that are we so yeah well this is right yes it does seem to be checking out well. "Still with my ego and my narcissism stephen control when i hear you read ah i hear you read the gym. I oh when you first started. I always think it's about me and then it's it's jim cape. 'cause 'cause the ad the ad that you read or or or whipping off the top of your head or whatever it's all good. Is you know the show wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for jim kane. I was gonna jump in there. You know we always hundred children well. Thanks jim okay good. You're we're a bottomless pit when it comes to attention and praise. Aren't you terrible. It's absolutely terrible awful. I'm wondering if this call in white thing just to finish up up with it does anything to the r f market <hes> because it's been stuck the r._f._a. Market in the league right now. It's like it needs a big can of w._d. W._d. forty to get it unstuck the mitch martyr thing most people think is what has it stuck and everybody else is figuring okay. Marnie has got the most opportunity to get the biggest deal because he's in toronto where you've got some comparables who are crazy good in two virus and in austin matthews so so in that case mourners situation where he can truly argue that i need to be paid like those guys and he'll probably get the biggest contract and that will also leave as a domino effect comparables for guys like matthew joke in calgary still no deal vancouver's brooke besser still no deal mingo rant and in colorado same thing brain point with tampa cow connor and patrick line with winnipeg and it's generally thought that martyr is going to be the guy that sets it's the market but we're getting awfully late in the game here where we're starting to think about okay. Is this guy gonna go over and play in europe and wait for his contract or is he going to cold out or whatever because i bet you all these other guys aren't real jacked about the idea at least not all of them about maybe holding through training camp yeah. It's it all in a perfect world. Steve all the names would be you know you do all your negotiations. Somehow try not let it out okay and then they would all have to be released the same day you know what i mean. You're right in a in a perfect world but as a fan right it certainly is shitty taste in in your mouth. You signed the guy you know. Get them. Get them out there. But that's reality that's reality in in hockey. There is an old senate who did get a new deal yesterday. Just a one year contract act and <hes> derek carr played for the ottawa senators for a couple years was quite good here and <hes> he a one year deal with the new york islanders thirty two years of age and his stats were not good fourteen goals nine assists in seventy games last season bouncing around with pittsburgh florida and colorado and he's a good example aw of one of the finest arts there is when it comes to being a g._m. In sports and that's realizing when it's time them to turn the page on a player..

"What are your expectations for him this year yeah so let me share a little you know he's last year. He came and i think we broke. We ate goalies playing for us so so <hes> when he came up i think it was after christmas and he came in and kinda. Kinda take took over and he played a lot of games for us. We had a lot of injuries for goalies and what he came in. He kinda relaxed everything. He did a great job in that he made us feel comfortable and for twenty year old to come in and make everybody else feel comfortable. You don't see that often so it's something we're really excited about having a young goaltender like that you know he's young but he doesn't. He doesn't act or play young so he's very mature kid and he's got his head is when <hes> when the puck drops. He's ready to go he. He knows what he has to do. You focus on themselves often. You can't ask for anything else. Good stuff plo jerus- joining us from the philadelphia flyers. I was just a couple more. I was noticing today claude that they're only seven guys in the league have been a captain of their team longer than you have. Do you like that role. Aw and how would you describe yourself in that rule. Yeah i love the role you know to be able to <hes> to be the captain of n._h._l. And i shall team. It's it's a great honor. I don't think we've had the success that we we think we we should have but you know i'm thirty. One people might might say. I'm getting a little older but i don't. I don't feel older so you know. I have a lot of years here to to kind of prove that maybe i can show a little bit more as a leader but the age of hockey <hes>. It's not really one guy that leads. It's it's four or five guys on the team. That's on the same page and and being able to lead a team together and your voices is stronger like that and i think i have. I have some good assistance in doesn't really have to to be an assistant captain. It could be a veteran. That's been through a lot and being able to communicate and so we make sure we communicate together and it's not it it's all about we'll just one guy on a team. It's about four or five guys being able to to be on the same page and share the message fish with the guys on the team he had such great bounceback year two years ago and honestly i should have been right there in the hart trophy discussion over one hundred points after having mm stats wise anyway not your normal numbers so you have over one hundred points in the eighty five points this past season so yeah as an observer. You look like you're right there at aged thirty one looking like the same player. You always have been i wonder have you given any thought visions to how long you see yourself playing this game. Uh since i turned thirty a lot of people ask me that question is how many years you left before and <hes> you know the only answer i got. I gotta go one year time. I'm and i'm gonna play as long as i can. I love the game. I love being a part of a group franchises like the flyers and i'm gonna play as long as i can dan. I'm going to play till they tell me. I'm not good enough so the only thing i can do is summers like this the the summer just make sure i prepare myself the best i can. I'm sure when camp starts. I'm in good shape and i think if i can do that. I can play for a long time so you see guys playing until they're forty forty. One obviously obviously the percentage of that is not high but that's my goal right now closed really a treat to talk to you best of luck in the.

"It's always fun to come back for the anxious to get back on the ice. Yeah like i said the summers being a little too long. You gotta make a little playoff push air to to shore this summer a little bit now last season. We've gone through this sort of back and forth thing with the flyers where it's been missed the playoffs. Make the playoffs miss. The playoffs classmates plassnik player and it's been back and forth like that. Maybe a share with us what your excitement level is for the new season. You've got a new head coach some new bodies as well. Maybe talk a little bit if you could about what what you like about the team this year to two years ago. We made the playoffs in <hes> we <hes> we fell short and i but we have we had a good team in last year was kind of a roller coaster. Are we <hes> we ended up having a new coach new g._m. <hes> some new players new faces and it was kind of a roller coaster year and got to happen really quick quick so <hes> but you know what this show in new coach new g._m. We have some new some new faces with brown and niskanen hayes. Can you guys coming in that have experienced. We feel like we have a more <hes> more veteran team an older team that <hes> know what they want and how we wanna play so it's <hes>. It's something like you said every year. It's been up and down and and i feel like this l. o. Vigna's here quite a bit in the summer whereas well. I wonder if you had a chance to sit down with him and talk to him and get a sense of what he's all about. Yeah we ended up having a little dinner a supposed to be only an hour ended up being two and a half hours and we just chat about the team the organization what kind of team we want and you know he. He's a he's a coach really well prepared and just just listening to him. Talk about hockey. It's he's a coach. That's been around for for a while and you. He understands the game very well. So just i want meeting that i had one. I'm really got got me excited to to be able to work with them. You've got one of the youngest starting goalies in all all the n._h._l. In carter t just turned twenty one. I think about ten days ago <hes> maybe share with us where you're at with keep saying share. I don't know why i keep saying shared jamie cher with us. What do you think of carter heart and mean. He is such a good goal tender and he's so young..

"To take the lead on the flyers Carter heart stood tall for the flyers. What a great young goaltender. He is. But to me, it brings up the fact that the Blackhawks were generating the chances that are necessary. And even though you came away from that game with the loss entered hurts not to get those two points where you happy that they were attacking the way they were I was happy with a lot of it. I think we we didn't give much we created enough. We just didn't finish. I think we could have a little better re net presence, create some rebounds. Maybe find a way to Greece soda more, greedy goal. But I also think we talked about it already yesterday, and we will the future to just manage the puck a little bit better. And because I think most of the chances that they did get came off our turnovers. And if we do that, then we put ourselves in better position to win those two games. You know, the flyers did something during that game a lot of and they do it. Anyway, they block a lot of shots their defense blocks a ton of shots, and therefore it's getting volved as well. You know, you're going to be facing that down the stretch here with every team you play now pretty much to the end all the teams that are rented anyway, and they have a stake in this game. Is there going to be any kind of advice that you'll give to the boys maybe a little bit of a tweak the system to get those shots through? Well, I think the big thing is just a miss the first guy. And if you get behind the first layer them good things are gonna happen. Whether it's a deflection. Are we recover rebound or shot off the backboard, and then another attack, you know, teams are going to block shots? It's a desperate time here. Everyone wants to do whatever they can to defend, but I think it just missed that first guy and then be prepared to react. Now. How about you forward lines? I know that for the game against the Philadelphia Flyers. You were pretty well set you came back with roughly the same configuration you did from the game before against fan. Hoover going into this game here in Colorado. Will you make any adjustments to your forward lines? And now were they look. Yeah, we're not planning on it. Obviously just a little bit of time before the game. But I think we did a lot of good things. And we can't let the result the game diminish what the performance was wasn't perfect. But I I thought we had our chances, and we were solid defensively we played a pretty mature game. Again, just outside. Those those situations or return the puck over in the neutral zone, and we're exposed in transition so stick with it. Keep playing keep playing hard and we're gonna come through yet a great penalty kill against the flyers as well. Where the Blackhawks almost scored it was great to see them generally chances on the PK.
