"Vice Chancellor says the country will not block a European Union oil embargo against Russia Robert harbeck said Europe's biggest economy could also handle a complete energy cut off but made clear his skeptical about an oil embargo arguing it would allow Russia to sell crew to other countries for an even higher price Now the British virgin isles premier Andrew farhi has been arrested in Miami the criminal complaint issued by the Florida court's alleges he was trying to help a presumed drug trafficking organization smuggled thousands of kilos of Colombian cocaine through the UK territory and into the U.S. And finally here in the UK more companies are expecting to increase prices in the coming year to cope with a rapidly rising inflation and wages That's according to a survey by lloyds banking group in index of business confidence held steady at 33% this month after an 11 point drop in March the survey also shows companies reigning in hiring plans but most employees do expect they will have to raise wages Global news 24 hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quicktake powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in 120 countries I'm leann gorons this is Bloomberg Caroline Thank you so much Let me go in with today's top stories Now I want to talk about bank earnings this morning So we've had in that west coming up with first quarter pre-tax operating profit that has beaten estimates 1.25 billion pounds Dan ski bang though Denmark's biggest bank first quarter profits trailing estimates and BBVA the Spanish lender first quarter net income beating estimates Joining me now is Bloomberg's Tom Metcalfe who leads our team of finance reporters in the UK and the Middle East and Tom you've been kind enough to walk us through all of the bank earnings that we've seen out this week What has jumped out to you today then in this slew of bank earnings good morning Hey good morning Yeah I think for me on the Nat westerns it is a pretty significant beat so we're just talking through the report now and it looks like one of the big drivers is these banks take these charges against possible loan losses and the market expected that wester to take about a 100 million pounds worth of charges In fact what they did was release about 40 million pounds of charge So that's probably what's really driving this delta between what the analysts expected to see and a very strong set of results the banks also saying hey our traders did pretty well and that list does have quite a small trade now They must have done very well to influence their results But otherwise it's that sort of broader macro story we're seeing of these rise in interest rates really helping at least some retail bank operations Okay so that for Wes What about elsewhere in Europe then what's the picture I mentioned the BBVA results Yeah again they look pretty strong right These are a couple of Europe's biggest retail banks so BBVA coming out again beaten estimates I think on lending lower provisions but then yeah you go over to Denmark and you look at Danske and it has not done well and from reading our sort of reporters over there it sounds like that's linked to that insurance because you're also seeing a Mundy a massive asset manager based in France also sort of disappointing the market and it looks like the volatility we're seeing from Ukraine is making it very sort of unattractive for investors to put into sort of fixed income products So basically there's fewer inflows and that's hurting profits What about then European bank exposure to Russia We were just talking about the latest in the war in Ukraine So what about exposure to Russia for the banks here Yeah I think you've got to look at the continental banks and most UK banks the historical reasons don't have too many big operations so we saw the results from Barclays lloyds and that west also kind of making clear that they don't have any direct exposure But when you go on to the continent the big three for me there's the Austrian bank rifles and you also got uni credit with a big explosion and France's soc gen and there it's the banks that have the big exposure to Russia the ones that have kind of bought retail operations in the country because obviously it's very difficult to sort of leave something like that You can't just kind of pack up and leave those kind of operations So it's those three banks which are largely sort of big exposures They all say it's very manageable for them but it will be interesting to see if they kind of hold the line as it were in terms of saying we're still going to maintain those operations or like some of the U.S. banks in a city group in particular I think they're who are looking to exit you know will those continental banks also do the same Yeah okay so that's also something that we have to keep an eye on Thanks so much for being with me Tom Metcalf there who leads our team of finance reporters in the UK and the Middle East Thanks so much for being with me as we look at those in that dansker BBVA earnings out this morning Of course we've got a lot more earnings to think about later on today You can have a look at the tea live blog that starts on the terminal at 1115 London time if you want to understand Exxon and Chevron's first quarter earnings We also had out any results in terms of the big energy companies here in Europe energy reporting first quarter adjusted net income of €3.27 billion So actually yeah significant beta in terms of any global gas company energy company So let's tell you also what's coming up next on Bloomberg daybreak Europe So away from earnings the bank.

Judge: Florida can't enforce ban on school mask mandates

"Florida judges ruled against the governor and his efforts to ban mask mandates for schools a Florida court has ruled the state cannot enforce its ban against public schools requiring masks while the case plays out in the appellate court system Leon county circuit judge Jon Cooper last week had said Republican governor run to Santis and state education officials had exceeded their authority by imposing the ban through executive order and imposing fines on school boards that did require a mask the judge says there's overwhelming evidence in the case that face coverings do provide some protection for school children especially those too young to be vaccinated the governor says he's still confident he'll win when the case goes next to an appeals court in Tallahassee hi Jackie Quinn

"Number to call again. And the home improvement question 713212. 5874 When we left. We were talking with Chris down in Rockport and Okay, Chris. Uh, you got a wood floor. You're sounding much better now. Uh, How will the House is this? 1968. Okay. So in 68 the way those the way those would screeds were put in. They used a tar. Ah, hot tar. And basically the floor is covered with that tar and thesis. Creed is set down into it. And so that will basically stopped the moisture from coming up through the concrete. If you want to go over the top of that, with a floating floor You won't have any issues with his far as moisture getting trapped underneath in that space. Now I know most of the instructions call for a vapor barrier. And cushion to go underneath it. Uh, If you read some of the instructions, some of them will actually say in this situation like what you're doing, You don't have to put That vapor barrier the vapor bear because you've already got a vapor barrier with that top card that was put in there. And it's better than what they're going to be in the cushion stuff that you're gonna put on anyways, but it won't hurt you to go to go ahead and use it. Okay. Now, let's pretend that when I take it apart, I haven't noticed that hot tar and I've done some work before. So let's just let's just pretend that when I That I will take it. Take something apart for some inspection tour based on what you just said. Now, I didn't know what was there. So if you're right if I take another couple parts apart, and I see that just bare concrete there Yeah. Oh, The courses. Then you deal with the plastic under them. Yeah. Then you're dealing with something different. Because if you put the vapor barrier down, you're 100% correct. You can get moisture that comes up through the concrete that the air conditioners handling right now. But it may not handle it with a vapor barrier on top, So you would want to do a moisture test. They got probes that you can use that will give you the moisture content of the concrete. Or if you got a big enough area, you cut a piece of plastic 12 inches by 12 inches, tape it down to the concrete floor. And if it gets humidity under it Yeah. You're not wanted to put that. Moisture barrier down if it doesn't get humidity under it in 24 hours. Then you're clean and good to go. Mm hmm. But my preference would be And initially it was just going to be no vapor barrier and live with what that might do to the work. And of course I listened to you. So I go well, she's why not have Coke and talk to Jim. Anyway, thanks for the in both so no, baby. No vapor barrier is not something great, big and taboo. I need to worry. What if that's what you do? Because if you read the instructions, they really push that on the concrete floors. On a wood floor, you know, like, say, a second floor of a house or something. Ah, lot of those floors can actually even be nailed down or glued down. It's not his critical on you don't need it on all floors, so it's really designed for the for the concrete floors. Mm hmm. Hey, thanks for the Helping I'll listen to the rest your show. All right, take care of Chris. And let's see here. 713 to 125874. That's 713 to 125874 any home home Proven question. You have pick up the phone. Give me a call in Let's talk about it here on Texas home, Prudent man. You know, if you're looking for a place to go look at all the different floors. They're available. Florida core is a great place to go to. If you're looking for those click, unlock floating floors and stuff and you're in an area where you can get some moisture. They actually have some that are moisture resistant and virtually moisture proof. I mean, they don't advertise his moisture proof, but I'm telling you, I took some of them, put him in the back of my truck and haul them around for a year. Leaving him out in the rain and stuff. You couldn't tell it. They they held up great and Florida Court carries like four different brands. That are that way, So it is available for you, and that's what you can use, like in the kitchen area and places like that. So again if you had a question 713 to 125874. That's 713 to 125874. We're gonna go over to a leaf and Lorraine, How are you? I'm wonderful. Thanks for taking my call. Hey, I'm glad you called. How can I help you? Well, I have a house in a lease built in around the seventies. I had a couple of different questions for you. I have a granite countertops. It's kind of like a galley kitchen. Um, and it's got like a four inch black splash. That was kind of connected by a clear stuff. I don't know what it was, but it's separating. Now the sink behind the sink is kind of like falling down a little bit. And the backsplash is staying where it is. You know, there's a big gap. And, um, I had someone come over that told me I needed to know. Jack it up that if I jacked it up And he could. Then he could give me I don't know what he was going to give me but I'm like, I don't know how to jack it up to you. Does that make sense to you, Jack it up. You know, I'm really wondering how it's sagging because if it's granite It, it would span across without sagging. Well, um, I had some foundation issues, so that could be a problem. Um, I'm not positive of that. But I had my foundation done around 20 years ago. And of course, it was a company that was supposed to guarantee it for life. But I couldn't get them to come out, so I had to have somebody else come out and do it. Um, that that really shouldn't play into it, though, because granite granite is rigid. I mean it. Yes. If you could pick your in your mind the backsplash separating from the flat granite, right? You know what? When they originally put it in, they put in that clear. I don't know what you call it. This is silicon. Nice cock. There you go. That's what itwas and now there's like I could stick my pinky finger in there. Yeah, and that shouldn't be happening at it. Neither one of those pieces of material should be able to move enough to do that. It's got to be something else going on. That's allowing that and.

It's not even a contest, I guess, is it He just wants to give away a free duct cleaning, right? Yeah, it's not a contest. I shouldn't characterize it that way. But Can your hear the technician and too soon to have money even apply that word to either of us, But sadly, it applies way more to you than it does to me. I guess what? I'm the engineer of the show. That's scary area, so somebody wants to get a free duct cleaning from Amnesty Air duct cleaning. You go to the inside outside guys. Facebook page. And they like that post And they share that post and they hit shared. I know how to do that. You do know how to do that because of you, but I do know how to do it, and that's pretty easy. It is. It is two people in Southeast Michigan, obviously only in the area that amnesty Services, but Southeast Michigan do that, like and share and Get a good shot. Actually, a week from today, we will be announcing who is going to get two free dot claiming from embassy. We will be. Yeah, we'll be. So that's fun. Also want to remind you that you can go to Detroit news that Cobb or if you're lucky enough to know somebody who gets the Detroit News delivered to them in hard copy? Friday's edition in the home style section every Friday. Inside outside, guys get a chance to expand on a topic which is always fun for Canada. And this past week, we know that everybody was in in in their kitchen. They're fact more people. We had our first Thanksgiving in our house since we built a 21 years ago because we always we always go to my sister in law's for Thanksgiving. Is that crazy? That is crazy. But you know what if there is a Holiday where you'd rather not. Entertained to me. That's Thanksgiving. I enjoyed it. I really really savored that day. Here's what you find out. You know your your prep that seven course or eight course meal in the kitchen, where you never prep a meal like that. Hopefully we're all over it and over prepped. I mean, we cook £20 of meat for six people, not to mention snacks. Anyway, We thought Kevin, I thought would be timely. They have kitchen designed basics. And the article in the Detroit News Friday was about that out of plan a kitchen and I You know, the more I look at it, the better I feel about it. I think we gave you some great tips. It's something that you might want to just put in your plan or dream book. You know, for the next house. The next kitchen or the next kitchen, Remind her sure. And we always tell people you need to adapt to the circumstances. And if you're thinking about you in the kitchen, it's great time because you're not gonna get someone to do it tomorrow. So you have plenty of time to plan this out. And whoever you have Should include as part of their services designed service. Oh, absolutely, but better for you to know, going in. You know what the priorities are, And then there's someone could help you with product in space allocation. You know, that's where the experts really share, right? You're so right, but But if you know the priorities going in the check marks, you know the boxes to check And it is funny again. That's the highest price room in your home. It's the first room that a buyer will walk into if they're looking at your house for the first time. And fit finishes critical, You know, product durability and function is critical. So here's a question because we get this a lot. We just happened to get what recently for kitchens and someone said they were able to get a few estimates, but they why only very in price. Lily $15,000 woman Kitchen was $15,000 more than the rest of you see that and they come to us, And they say why? And that to me. The kitchen, Chuck. Is going to be one of the hardest place to justify and try to explain why it may be worth it to spend them with extra money. Well, and you saying you know what you and I just talked about a couple of minutes ago as a guideline. Here's here's one of the ways you can keep that those prices from very wildly Is to specify we two weeks ago had are planning article in the paper and it's still accessible. Detroit news dot com or the incidents of guys DACA All that strike for giving Thanks. Appreciate that. Um We set a job well planned. It's half done before it even starts right. You and I both agree with that. If you could start specifying now literally pick out the tile and prices, get the model number and price it that you're going to use where your backsplashes are, for instance. Do the same thing with the floor. Pick out the exact floor. You're gonna use price that floor. Specify it. If you do that, with most of the door knobs door, polls hinges. We used to get people You couldn't get him to pick out a hinge or a knave or a pole until you were two thirds of the way through the kitchen, which is insane. But now that they've got places like Florida Court, where they could walk into a superstore are big Kitchen bathroom back store. All right, so another thing. Let's say put on the floor. Okay, we'll do the kitchen floor out of a plank flooring. And the next guy says a plank flooring. Listen, you could buy a plank flooring for a dollar line United Square flick, You could buy a plank flooring.

"Today? I You know, if it is, it's going to be a very higher and house that everybody wants something traditional. Yeah, very traditional. I remember Chuck in my apprenticeship. In the guy that would cut the stone okay like a fella. But there's different kinds of stone. One was a found a locket was a squared stone. Very hard stone. And the chisel wouldn't be a traditional chisel. It wouldn't be one with the tip on it. It actually have about a quarter inch carbide flat tip at it, And you wouldn't think it would Break these stones, but it did. Man. You had to be careful because you were swinging a very big sledgehammer. And then what you would do is you put all these pieces of stone out in front of you as you're building a fireplace. And you would just try to pick stones and it was very time consuming and a great shapes. You'd be in a great shapes. But nowadays You put a piece of mash up against the wall. You screw it and make sure it's solid. You part it with some masonry cement, and you put what we call lick and stick man made stone on it Now it's a great look. It's a great product. It is a great product awhile to buy into that. Yeah. Yeah, but it's not the traditional and we, you know, way love traditional. And there are classes not earlier. I kind of poked fun at some of the do it yourself classes like for electrical. But there's some great D I y classes seminars you'll see laying ceramic tile have doing some of the liquid stick stone. Yes, kinds of things. Yes, And I think they're valuable and that is what you're right. What we're talking about earlier is You can't not Everybody make fact most people can't do with that stone Mason used to do. He just can't wall is gonna be followed. I was gonna dip it. It was it was an art. Absolutely. But homeowners can do the lick and stick. You know they can't and we come looking stick, and that's just a contractor's name for a culture stone. Man made stone. Now They also have a thin veneer stone similar where they cut the faces of that same stone. I was just talking about real stone. So now you don't have to carve the whole stone defect just the face. You look great. They look right. I mean, it's real stone. Yeah, right, right. It's just It's really cool stuff, and there's some real possibilities there. I think a good deal. Do it yourself Project for someone who is of that ilk would be backsplashes to space behind the top of your Kitchen counters in the bottom of your wall hung cabinets that space right there. Could become your own personal little work of art. I agree I again if you're of a mind to do something yourself with regard to that kind of thing, I would think that be a good place to start. Maybe to get a small bathroom. Even sure, sure. And No, thanks. It's stories like Florida Court who carry all this stuff. It is possible for homeownership, and they had the classes that could help people do that stuff at all the materials and the materials to their far better than they were. So that be a do it yourself asked. And that's where the new construction right Alright. Remodel? Yeah, I mean anybody living in their 50 year old house. There's the space in there that they could do something like that. So many of those old brick fireplaces you could take the cultures don't go right over top of the existing just going to go to that with you Okay? Yes. Oh, that's a very doable project as well. It is. It is. It really is. I mean, I kind of consider that a sin Because I was old, beautiful fireplaces. I hate seeing going over top of them. I don't disagree. Now those are more D I y when it comes to making three fireplaces, What's not d I Y is repairing your old chimney. Yes, he's gonna ask you. How about Tuck pointing outside the house? Any brick where the border has failed? I would say the biggest. Yes, I mean, small area that a homeowner could reach. Yes. Okay. You can do that kind of stuff. And I'm gonna tell you the biggest mistake Big butts. So given the butts the big but the biggest mistake homeowners make When they try and do their own tuck pointing Number one. They don't get deep enough. They don't They're not able to grind out that joint deep enough. They just literally put a thin coat over top of it. So you want to get safety? Glad glasses. That's first thing you buy. Before you buy the grinder with the quarter inch diamond we could put which will cut out that masonry. About an inch back. And then you fill it with the mortar. And the second mistake they make is once they fill it full of mortar, and they strike it to make a look Good. That brush. They'll brush it too soon and the spirit And then you look at it. Go Homer did that all over the brick all over the break. So once you join it, Wait. I had it in between, Miss. Take that leads to you're brushing too early. Is not miss mixing mortar properly to the proper consistency. I think too many people over wet product like that. Well, you know, they could use a pastry bag. That helps, right? Yeah, basically. Let's talk about what that is. We get back. You think doughnuts buddy when we get when we get back from break, But you know, ugly, crumbling brick, ugly siding that's would beat up and dented. Split faded. Why would you call that home? When we've got a company that could literally if your house a face lift that make you followed level that again, no matter what's on your home, pro home improvement and come in and give it a beautiful new society. Beautiful new rough, beautiful new windows..

You're good at hats off with that You're going to be Sammy tonight. You're gonna be Sam. Got it. Okay. We're good. Okay. All right. So my next question is to you for thought about Sean. I'm going there. Shawn is here. I'm going to show him right now. With my next question, Sean. What? I just asked Sam. I'm gonna ask you the same question. How do you start in the business? How much time do we have? We only have on this second we got 10, another 10. Other 10 if you want to develop, but it's all yours. Let's go. No, no, my my path. You know, it has really been about 35 years in the flooring industry. I started a very early age. No, My father sliding a tape measure in my hand will be 10. A little bit older than 10. OK, little bit older, but we split a titan tape measure Any kind of showed me howto measure for carpet. We ran the flooring his flooring business together, But we did that for several years and he wanted to retire, You know, so I kind of picked up the reins from there, and from there, I kind of did a shop at home experience did a little bit of installing Of the economy. Got a little rocky, so I guarantee you're like 0809 of those years somewhere around there. Okay? Maybe a little bit earlier than that. Yes. And then from there, you know, it was just all about the big boxes. You know, I'm not going to mention names but did about 22 years with the big boxes. You go back even further. So you go back to the nineties, okay? So we're coming out of another recession back in. That's not 87 88 89 90 91 92 93 94 we started and then you came out the big box stores and then we went to a whole different world right from their absolute okay, But it's been a fun ride. You know, Flooring, along with pro has really been in my Careerpath. The passion is definitely there and Florida core about 4.5 years ago. Funny, you know, I turned the job down a couple of times that were very persistent thing after me. I'd never heard of Florida Court. I didn't know who Florida court was, You know, bounce things off of my father and I said something was calling me Floren Accord. He's all excited. He lives out in Atlanta. "King tides a year in another 10 years, they'll be 15 to 20 years. Another 10 years after that, there's going to be 40 or 50 years as the sea's rising. This is just a beginning and an inkling of what's what's what's to come. Advocates at the rally said that a lot of the carbon emissions in the city come from buildings, the city of Boston does have a plan to transition to zero net carbon new construction. And aim to make the city carbon neutral by 2050. Let's get back to Cindy Stump. OAS Toughest nails. I'm Dan Watkins W. B. Z Boston's news radio. Welcome back to easiness Radio 10 30. Of course. You know, Cindy got Sammy and we got home. Jared and Greg. All right, talking about the pandemic, guys, because I know it's been murdered here working like this. Like I'm so exhausted Antalya here but a crazy year. Yes, I mean, Like like any other business. We had to adapt in retail where your business is founded on customers coming into your building to pick stuff up into shop and things like that. And then with this pandemic, hitting that Through everything through a loop. So we we, um adjusted. How on the fly and went to a curbside model, Teo, you know, for the safety of our guest and associates with the contacts we want to limit contact. So Yes, could go online, You know, shop for orders or shop for their products. They could call and talk to somebody we would drink, so it's very hard to buy Tell online it really is. You have to see the color because the lighting and the flashing and It's you got to see it, so I'm sure people are buying it returning because what you guys returning is never initial. Never an issue some of that, But we also if if somebody pulled up, and they're like And I need to buy this, But is there any way you can bring a couple pieces around? Let me see it. Then we would bring some product out to the parking lot and let them look at it. Put some on the ground and let them make a decision. And we did that frequently. I'm sure a lot of guys like that work into those conditions. Three months. So Florida Court did not close down at all. No, no, no, no. And I'll tell you this is some of the smaller contractors who lived and died on the materials that they need from our store right, so appreciative of the fact that we were open. Oh, you mean like me? Well, you know, Because what, Like me like that and stuff for down here having a vacation since Christmas Day. I'm exhausted. Tired then we couldn't stop. I mean, obviously, these guys living dying off what we have in the products that we provide for them, and when they would come to the door nine times out of these guys are ecstatic. Like I can't believe you're open so from men. Whether it's cm or pro manager. Somebody go into the back of the store to pick up five bags of ground a thin set and we bring it up to them just so they could continue working. That made all the difference for us, and it just goes back to being service. It was almost more like order fulfillment as opposed to a traditional retail. Okay. Were you afraid to be out there with the mask? Young people? I mean, this hit us all. What? February. March end about mid of March. We were we were closed to the public and Avon and Saugus from about mid March toe like the first week of June, But you guys just the way they're working on her in there working every day working. I mean, you're cognizant of what's going on. Clearly, there's something going on. But of course, with the masks and the gloves and anything else to make sure you constant Washington hands. You know, we were very saving what we were doing, you know? Because we had to be, You know, obviously it's It's something that we've never seen in our lifetimes. Now your family is worried about your going in. So, yeah. I mean, everybody was. I won't say scared but cannot beard, But I mean, I'm still scared. Very scared of people were concerned because you don't know what everybody else is doing right? And that's that's the concerning part of somebody could be You know, infected and not know it Or they could be doing things out that maybe they shouldn't be around people, and then they come in unknowingly, and now it's kind of spreading. However, how your store's kind of set up is kind of Covered Really friendly. Yeah. I mean, we have We have a big box and you can spread out easily. But you know, we took a stance on cleanliness and sanitizing frequently. Everybody wear masks. Everybody have the option to wear gloves if they wanted to wear gloves, you guys even for covert. You guys have That's like saying you just said the store is so big. It's everything so spread out. And so clean, every spotless clean. It's almost like anxiety for you when you walk in there anyways. But yeah, because you walk into other stores, Everything's like on top of each other, and you're like, Get away from me. Bingo. So when you walk in and let's talk about you walking, let's take the Avon store because I'm so much more smoothly even store Then the sun because I don't know it's the thing that I have not actually close there. Let's say we have a good thing She hates being in a car and going anywhere for long periods of time. That's the part that she's like, Let's go and I'm like It's like six o'clock. I don't care. It's rush hour. I want to go there and I'm like that is a truth like Everybody uses within a three mile radius and me right at all. Said I'm gonna go to Avon and I were gonna go Avon intonation, but it is because I just so I can even when we go there and see what she wants. Maybe she's mixed up of what store it's after She talked to one of you and you just mix up things a lot. She doesn't even get mad called Menopause. Get away. We'll go all the way that they don't have it. And I'm like She didn't get mad. I'm like you can bet about everything, but not about that. I don't because it's usually my fault because I probably called over the Saugus, right. She had the white that. Yep. Cindy, we have OK, I'm coming to get it. Then I go table and they're like That we don't have it. We're out of them like that phone call Cindy here. And what did you promise? You're gonna pick something else? And by the way, we're gonna stop my white the other way. We're going to a major problem here. Gay. Have these Whiteside loving like they're like that. The first one the second they bring in a new white Me and my wife looked my Beiste. Every Everything's going on. My house is your house. It's a classy, traditional like whites. But here's my bagel with you guys. It's not like you guys. A CFO CEOs, You guys a working stiffs like me out here, Okay? And you talk so highly of the company you work for? And it's not the first time you're on my show. Okay? Like you said, seven years in your year and a half here and half, and you're still in here with the same feeling not disgusted. Not Since the last time we spoke to any of the environment may hasn't changed at all. I mean, just to get what Jarvis and obviously the opportunity within the company to grow. But then it's just, you know, the first thing you get from whether it is CM or some of the other managers in the store. It feels like a family, and it might as well be because you literally in that store 8 to 9 hours a day, right? You don't want to go too uncomfortable, So it's your second family away from the family, and that makes all the difference because it is a comfortable place to be obviously gets crazy. What doesn't every business does every bit of that stuff, But it is It's covered zone. It's like, okay, you know, I'm with these people every day. Let's make the best of it. And you do it. You almost become like family, you know, so And I was going back on something, and that's all that's important to me. But when you walk into Florida court in an Avon and we'll go back for seconds, Smith was saying if you'll sort them wide first you come in. You go to all the hard ways, right? Let's go through all the product lines that you guys have You have all the engineered woods? Yes, you have all the kicking woods. OK, So does anyone explain Get the vinyl planks in the laminates, right? But let's explain Engineer would against were words so people know Yeah, So does the other one expert builder. Yes. I mean, solid. Wood is good in the sense that it's thick and, you know, tried and true, And everybody wants to see that piece of wood and go, man. That's real wood. Okay, so it's called. I called the real kickin would. Yeah, so and then engineered engineered was basically developed to give you more flexibility. Gambler, real wood could be installed. Because if you have a house that's built below grade with a basement, right, solid wood can be installed in a basement. Then you've got a fair..

"Sponsored the Brennan center is honored to partner with the national urban league on this critical report, no set of issues is more important to the future of our democracy and our communities. We hit the Brennan center track and study legislation litigation and other actions affecting voting nationwide. We both fight for voting rights, and we do the numbers and based on that I wanna make a few observations about the current moment. I this past election was marred by some of the most brazen intense and widespread voter suppression. We've seen in decades as Mark said voters in twenty five states half the country faced an accumulation of new laws making it harder to vote than it was a decade ago. And it wasn't. The only formal laws that tripped up voters states, like Georgia, North Carolina and Florida purged between seven and eleven percent of the names on their voter rolls before that election, nationally, voter perjury. It's gruesome stanchly over the past decade and much of that increase came in states that were previously covered under the Voting Rights Act because of their history of discrimination in voting. Second efforts to restrict voting access are continuing strenuously across the country. For example, our recent roundup voting legislation shows, a spike in efforts to restrict the ability of civic groups to help people register to vote or vote in Tennessee, for example, after a local group registered ninety thousand African American voters last year, the state just passed a law that were clicked Kerr tail voter registration drives their African Americans are twice as likely as Caucasian voters to register through drives even more alarming. The Florida legislature just passed a Bill which is now sitting on the governor's desk. Not yet signed that could roll back voting rights for hundreds of thousands of citizens with past criminal convictions. As you know, last November Floridians overwhelmingly voted to throw out the state's shameful felony disenfranchise franchise mint law and restore rights to people who have completed their sentences. This was expected to help one point four million Floridians to regain voting rights. But under the new Bill citizens will have to pay back all fees and fines resulting for their convictions before they are eligible to vote. Most if not if not many or not most of these will not be able to do that. The Florida court clerks association has said that for eighty three percent of court fines, there is only a minimal expectation of payment. Eighty-three percent. If signed this legislation will be a major blow not only to the biggest voting rights expansion in half a century. But also to the African American community in Florida, which is dramatically over represented among those disenfranchised. Third as you can tell these measures are not race neutral. They disproportionately harm African American voters and other voters of color race is also a significant factor driving these efforts to cut back on voting and studies prove that states where the political clout of African Americans and other minorities is growing and states that used to be covered under the Voting Rights Act are far more likely than other states to introduce and to pass measures to cut back on voting access. And as you heard over the past couple of years, there has been a remarkable and unusual spate of court rulings? Finding that states and localities have herpes Pistilli discriminated in their voting laws. It is not accidental the scope and sophistication of efforts to make voting more difficult. Make clear that a strong defense is essential that not enough. And that brings me to my last point and a happier. One at the. Same time as these votes. Suppression efforts are moving we are also seeing significant momentum around the country around efforts to bolster protections for voting rights and expand access to the ballot. Last November Americans passed with overwhelming bipartisan majorities. Record number of state ballot initiatives to improve democracy, including four to increase voting access. Now, we are seeing a striking number of states pushing legislative packages with multiple Provo to reforms in them. So far this year we've seen reforms like early voting and same day registration pass in New York, Virginia, Delaware and New Mexico. We see nationwide momentum in favor of restoring rights for people with past convictions, Florida, notwithstanding with bills actively moving in five states and passing one house in Colorado with bipartisan support, and there is strong momentum for auto Matic voter registration, which has been introduced and passed in fifteen states and DC over the past four years. And our recent study shows that atomatic wrote a registration has dramatically increased registration rates everywhere. It has been adopted from sixteen percent in Oregon all the way. Up to ninety four percent. In georgia. Wendy Weiser, the director of democracy program. At the Brennan center for Justice is could add fifty million voters to the rules and transform our elections. Overall. Good bills are outpacing bad ones. This this session. We've actually seen momentum in thirty five states around bills to expand voting access and only ten states on bills to restrict voting access. This momentum has reached as far as our nation's capital last month, the house of representatives passed HR won a historic Bill with Viki reforms needed to revitalise American democracy, including a broad pro voter package and a commitment to restoring the full protections of the Voting Rights Act. The coast continues to hold hearings on voting rights and is building a record for the Voting Rights Act. This could be a turning point with your help. No effort is more critical. And I want to thank the national urban league for all that you're doing. To lift this effort up. Thank you..
