"If my memory holds which was gonna build the reservoir kim that we talked about being authorized by congress and a one and unfortunately the reservoir didn't go because we built these wetlands to clean up sugar water so we've been waiting since bob dole ran for president ninety six for this reservoir To your question. I think if you had Representatives of the companies. come on. they can answer that okay. Do you think you feel confident eric. Debt or whatever they're calling it today. It's a modified an off satisfy the west coast. Yes i do. I've talked to the kernels personally. I've talked to members of his senior team. Are science folks have been Very much engaged with his with his with his team. In jacksonville Yes we feel very confident that optimize plan will come out and it's you know it's it's listen. The the benefit here is we're still going to have eight to ten years twenty thirty to build all this infrastructure so the loathsome that's gonna come out is to be revised when you have all these reservoirs in place so let's get beyond the status quo today. Let's also so settled down all the misinformation and all of the blustery talk. That's coming out of fort myers and santa. Let's settle that down. Let's focus on a balanced plan following the lead of the governor and then knowing that in a few years we're gonna have all this infrastructure and it's going to be even more beneficial to us all so what does the misinformation that that you think is coming out that we need wash there's there's been a lot of talk about sending the water south building these reservoirs and then what happens. Is you hear a concerted effort to bill bells north of the lake acworth for storage and recovery. So instead of having water hit the leg or hit the clues hatschi. Let's pump it three thousand feet into the aquifer into the boulder zone and be done with the problem with that approach is what happens to florida bay. What happens to the fisheries down in the keys when they're desperate for water. What happens when the everglades it on fire because we're not flowing water. South czars are not the answer to the current challenge of the ahead of the everglades. So those that are putting a lot of their political capital. Now into shifting to a sr their misguided their misguided the solution here is to take water from the lake store. Clean it and get it down to the florida keys. Our friends in monroe county and miami dade county broward county. We need to get it flowing in the direction that god had. It backed up before. We've messed it up so you said you spoke to Colonel kelly When we had over for dinner a couple of weeks ago we felt pretty confident. I'm just getting the did you. Have you spoken to colonel booth yet. Do you get the same vibe from colonel booth. i haven't. I have not with colonel booth. I'm going to see him in about ten days. Look forward to that Getting to know him he now plays a critical role Pro kelly is going to hand off a plan that's that's going to be balanced. And then colonel over the next year heading into member of twenty two is going to have to shepherd that new manual through the process Because remember the record of decision or the final verdict on this will not not until november of two thousand twenty two. I heard that on the day that he retires Colonel kelly is going to do a cannonball. Herbert hoover dike. Is that true or is that just a rumor. I would love to see the colonel in a in an air boat going from lake okeechobee. Through the canal..

"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio for sunday july fourth two thousand and twenty one first up today i wanna talk about re fest two thousand and twenty one this october. The reef environmental educational foundation will again be holding refenced from thursday october fourteenth to sunday october. Seventeenth in key largo. That's four days of some great activity. The festivities kickoff on thursday. And one o'clock. You can then get a couple of days of diving in on friday and saturday morning with a two tank dive from either key divers amaury dive resort or essence. Those charters run about ninety dollars and they go out at eight am. If you wanna do a kayak tour you could also do that. For sixty dollars with florida bay outfitters. There are seven afternoon workshops and seminars and activities at john pennekamp park the coral reef restoration foundation. The history of diving museum and the florida keys. Wild bird sanctuary. Wow this sounds like a great event. Unfortunately i won't be able to make it down due to a family obligation but this sounds really good. Be sure to check out repressed. That's reef fest. Two thousand twenty one on their website. Well who watches the tv. Show curse of oak island. I think matt has watched every episode. And i think they're still searching for treasure but i came across an interesting article about one of the guys on the show. I guess tony sampson had a strange situation happen about a year ago tony's frequently on the show and he runs a tour company called salty door. Salty dog tours. Well he was taking some tourists out when one of his guests hat blew off so quickly turned the boat around to fetch the hat. And that's when he spotted something else a voter in the water. Apparently the boater was on his maiden voyage with this new boat when it capsized and he couldn't get to his life jacket because it was tied to the boats seat ono so tony fortunately rescued the voter in what is called the oak island triangle triangle. I guess the boat subsequently washed up on oak island now at least those guys found something there about a year ago. Olympus announced that they were getting out of the digital imaging business and that they would not be making cameras any longer and that would have been a shame if these Tech this technology went by the wayside. I really liked my Olympus t g six. well don't worry. A new company named 'em digital solutions is producing the old olympics. Cameras binoculars audio gear. They took over in january. Two thousand twenty one. Their website is get olympus dot com. Now if you want to know more about the company checkout oem dash digital solutions dot com. This company is based out of tokyo. And it's led by sha guinea saga motto all digital solutions employees about two thousand people with evaluation of twenty seven billion yen or about three hundred and thirty three million. Us dollars the oem comes from the nineteen seventies oem solutions that they put in place to make cameras smaller more rugged and quieter. This is great news especially for us olympus fans. Here's some sobering news out of florida. The manatees are under stress as of june fourth. This year. Seven hundred and eighty two manatees have died in two thousand twenty one alone and that's a one hundred and fifty one percent increase from the three hundred and thirty one that died during the same period last year to put this in perspective. The record number of deaths for manatees in a year is eight hundred. Twenty one or eight hundred and twenty four and that was in two thousand eighteen. This increase is so dramatic that representative vern buchanan from florida wrote a letter to the us fish and wildlife services to change their status from threatened to endanger and that's the highest level of protection here in the us. The florida manatee used to be on the endangered list until two thousand and seventeen when their numbers rose. Above six thousand six hundred they now estimate a census of about seventy five hundred but as we can see that number is going in the wrong direction. Now what's the cause food availability. The seagrass is being killed off by oversaturation of nutrients and the manatees simply. Starve to death. Not sure how a change in status will solve the sad scenario but we need to start someplace. Well it's summer. And i know that a lot of people like to catch up on summer reading while they're on vacation we'll scuba diving. Magazine just published a list of books that you might consider in their armchair adventure section. A couple of book stood out. One of them was in oceans deep courage innovation and adventure beneath the waves. And that's written by bill steve. And it's a history of our underwater presence. He covers submarines saturation diving and recreational gear. Bill also goes into the impacts of aro vs versus in-person exploration. You can pick up this book in ocean deep for about fifteen dollars in paperback. Now the second book is exploration deep ocean the first descent to the bottom of all five of the world's oceans and it's written by josh young. The book covers the exploits of victor scovill and his team on their history-making mission. You can find this book in hardcover for a little over twenty one dollars time to kick back with some good summer reading and finally here on wet note if you're a collector of vintage gear or want to start mark your calendar for the vintage scandal auction on july seventeenth. The auction is run by the nation's attic and you can register at live. Auctioneers dot com now. The auction starts at ten. Am central standard time. You can go to the site now and take a peek at all the cool stuff you can also register embiid early. The first part of the auction folks who focuses on vintage scuba gear from the nineteen forties to the nineteen seventies things like regulators knives mask cetera. Then it switches to maritime artifacts and closes out with the really expensive stuff. Those classic military commercial hardhats. I missed the last one. Because i was out diving. But we'll definitely try to tune into this next one get set up early and register. It moves pretty quickly when when the auction goes off. And don't miss out on that special piece of scuba history. Well that's it for wet notes. For sunday fourth two thousand and

"Senate ethics Committee Senator Sheldon White House of Rhode Island among them, and he joins us now from Newport, Rhode Island, Senator Thanks so much for being with us Thank you, Scott. What exactly would you like the ethics committee to do? The first and most important thing is to conduct a fair and thorough investigation. So the Senate can understand exactly what these two members I had to do with the violence on January, 6th. What about the idea? I have Senator Cruz and Senator Hawley say, you know they were just exercising their rights as citizens as much as public officials to object. The vote certification. Yeah, And if that's the case, then You hear that result, and we'll be able to respond accordingly. But as the level of comparative of those beliefs dial down And as the coordination or cooperation with groups that were behind The assault on the Capitol dials up You get into situations in which the potential Culpability on their part, and we just need to know what the facts are. Well, let me ask you what you're seeing that would prompt an investigation. Do you believe that that senators cruise in Senator Hawley were in direct communication? With any of the insurrectionists. Are you? Are you suggesting that something they said signaled them or encourage them? Well, that's what they that's what we need to know. Clearly what they were saying encouraged them and gave aid and comfort to those who had a completely false beliefs. That the election have been raped and killed one I don't believe that I don't wanna recruit or holy actually believed themselves, but the election was rigged or stolen. So, um, I don't know quite why they were saying those things. But the more we learn about the group behind the assault on the Capitol, the more it becomes supports, understand the full picture of what took place The roles instance of the Republican Attorney general's association with Report. We haven't been a recent Republican attorney general. Um, presents questions that need to be answered. Are senators by design, free from legal action for anything they say in in Florida Bay, For example. Well, generally on DATs, why the sun it had to do this. Um, because, while the speech and debate clause protects members of the Senate from being questioned in any other place, About what they said on the floor. The Senate is the place where the Constitution gives the responsibility to discipline it, remember. And that's one of the reasons we couldn't count on an FBI investigation or the U. S attorney's investigation to Belgium the potential role with these incentives we had to do this ourselves as a Senate. And as a Senate. We've conferred that responsibility on the Senate Ethics Committee Pence the petition to the committee to investigate Half a minute. We have left senator there three Democrats into Republicans on the ethics committee. Does that take care of it. Do you expect? Do you expect him to approve any kind of investigation? Have every reason to believe that they will be stare the step first of the preliminary resumed if he says with a prosecutor would call probable cause and then go on there is to a proper adjudicatory hearing and then a report to the Senate. Senator Sheldon White House, a Democrat from Rhode Island. Thanks so much for being with us, sir. Good to be with you. Exactly one year ago today, the Chinese city of Wuhan went into a total lockdown for 76 days, Maurer than 11. Million people were ordered. Not to leave their apartments even to get food or medicine. Prevent a novel coronavirus from spreading further. Today. China still discovering dozens of new coronavirus cases each day, but Han has gone months without reporting a new case, and life is mostly gone back to normal. Here's Emily. Thank has spent the last few days in the city and joins us now, Emily, Thanks so much for being with us. Thank you, Scott. You were in Wilhalme during lockdown last year. What's it like now? It's completely different. Last year, it was a ghost town. There were no people on the streets. When people did venture outside, many still decided to Werfel has Matt suits. But the last few days I was back in Wuhan. The commercial areas were full again. Traffic was back. People were eating out in restaurants. Of course, there are still restrictions. You have to wear face masks, and you cannot gather in numbers of more than a dozen. You do have to get covert tests when traveling. But residents have this bittersweet kind of pride. They've been able to turn the tables and now Unfortunately, it's other places in China that are bracing for a second ways. Because dozens of new cases they're showing up there, but not in one. The World Health Organization has a team of scientists in Wuhan right now, and this coming week I gather they will begin an investigation into the origins of the Corona virus. What will they be looking for? I'll be looking to understand how that virus made its leap to humans, and they're going to be visiting sites like the horn and seafood market in Wuhan, where they think the first infection clusters and humans appeared. But it's not clear how much they're going to find that that seafood market, for example, has already been mostly incinerated, and the W H O team is going to have to deal with political pressure from both the US and China because There's just one particular virus conspiracy theory that's really taken hold in China, particularly among will hunt seafood vendors. The everglades douglas's nineteen forty seven owed into those wetlands. The everglades river of grass was published the same year that president harry s truman dedicated the everglades national park long before environmental scientists fully understood the fragility and interconnectedness of the everglades ecosystem douglas railed against efforts by the us army corps of engineers to drain divert parts of the sprawling wetlands to to make room for agricultural and urban development. These efforts continue today. The school was dedicated in nineteen ninety when douglas was one hundred years old and still going strong along with her book. Douglas provided a new way of understanding the one point five million acre wetlands preserve rather than seeing it as merely a sprawling swamp douglas rightly described the everglades massive slow moving river of shallow water draining north to south from lake okeechobee down through the sawgrass prairies and emptying into the florida florida bay in moving pros douglas road of the hundreds of species of birds fish and flora that thrived in the precariously balanced ecosystem of the everglades the largest subtropical wilderness in the united states. "Them to help with poaching patrols and help their their Rangers in the field. So we do a lot of stuff right in our backyard. And of course, we do things from Africa to Central America to. Just to my Ron McGill conservation endowment. We've already given over one hundred thousand dollars worth of conservation work, whether it be new vehicles for research and poaching just bought a brand new motor for a boat doing studies in the Everglades in Florida bay for Audubon, Florida. So we do a lot in that respect that was excellent of unit. Take a zoo employee and plant that question Ron Kevin you're on McGill zoo, Miami, go ahead, Kevin. Yes. Ryan. I have a squirrel a gray squirrel in my basement. And I'm just wondering if this is something that I can take care of myself. I I leave professionals. Let's oh, no, no, no, no leave that professional unless you can just give them access out on his own. Don't try to catch him. Don't try to round them up. I don't know if you ever saw Monty python and the holy grail that that that scene with the rabbit. Okay. That's what a squirrel can turn into come right at your neck, man. He'll right for the jugular. Squirrels can be vicious especially as adults when they get scared. So don't be fooled by the cute little looking to push little tail those animals can be very dangerous. That's professional. I wonder if he lives in a cold climate or a warm climate because he might be going down there to get away from the cold. But if you can give it access so get on it's own don't try to catch it on your own. Please don't those things are so fast, and they can bite really badly. Ron there's recently been in a possum wandering in my neighborhood, climbing in oak trees, and I think it lives in the areas that's something we should be concerned about or is he harmless as long as we've Malone absolutely harmless as long as you leave him alone. These animals that's all they want to do is find a free easy meal. I like to get into people's dog food people who feed their pets in their backyard, not indoors these ponds pick up very quickly like to get into the trash cans any type of fruit and vegetables, you know, things that are thrown out in the in the garbage. They go to that. They're totally harmless. As a matter of fact, you know, I'm not saying that one cannot bite you if you try to grab it. They can people have this misconception. Oh, you try to grab it. It's just gonna play dead. It's gonna play possum people watch that that dump commercial, you know, but they don't always do that. And I have seen a possum give a pretty nasty bite. If people try to pick it up, but they are more bark than bite, even they don't make anything. Open your mouth. Got big long teeth. So they're pretty impressive that way. But they want nothing to do with you, leave them alone. They will leave you alone. Promise. Ron which animals fooling us the most in terms of. We think it's cute. We think it's a nice little cute animal, but it's really not it's evil. I'm not gonna say it evil. But you know, people look at something like a panda. Oh, the pan so cuddly, it's so nice, man. One of my good friends, a veterinarian work with pan almost had his finger bitten off by pan. They can be like any other bear that can be very dangerous that way. So I think a pan is an animal people looking at just cost so cute and going back to the squirrel, man scrolls. People people don't understand squirrels are really cute when they're babies, and then all of a sudden, they become adults, and they become like Satan's child, so evil evil is the word that he should have used but about squirrels paying. Yeah. Squirrels. Really change on a dime. I can talk to you. You know, I know so many people who who rescued rehabilitates grills, and they'll be the first one to tell you. Yeah there. Okay. And then all of a sudden, it's like something snaps in them. And they just doughnuts Nick, can really tear you up. Recently learned the difference between a llama and alpaca. And I'm wondering are either of those zoo animals, and I'm also wondering are there other examples of two different species that are sometimes mistaken for one another? Yes. Well, we have an uncle here, which are also very closely related to the Lama pocket. And we do have a llama in children's zoo. You know, they're they're interesting type of stock, but they are very closely related, but other animals that are very commonly mistaken as being the same or like rias and emus these rat tights very closely related to the large flightless birds. But if you look at a rea-, and then look at an EMU, they look very similar even an ostrich and Annamaria look, very similar real looks like a smaller version of an ostrich. So those animals are very commonly confused and ironically, their found like on different continents. Chris you're on with Miguel. Go ahead. Chris. Right. Wondering I'm wondering if a group of guerrillas could raise a human baby like in Tarzan. You know, I'm not gonna say that's impossible. I I just I think realism incredibly intelligent animal. I don't know if they would readily accept a baby. And I don't know if it's impossible to you're on with Ryan McGill, do Miami go. Hey, gary. No impossible. It's not impossible. Dan. Gary. They would eat the baby. That's exactly. Why do cows eat after birth is that wanting voice from the beyond almost all almost all his stock will eat there after birth and one of the main reasons for that first of all there's a lot of nutrients in the after birth, but one of the instinctive reasons for that is to take away the smell that would attract predators to come. Eat their newborn, baby. Okay. After birth has full of nutrients, but also a lot of odor. So they try to eat that after birth to to try to disguise the baby smell it. Doesn't draw predators. Chris you're on with Ron Miguel. Go ahead. That's a good answer. We learn something every week around here for as much Chris you're on with Ron Miguel. Go ahead. Yeah. Ron my year old son Aaron wants, no Tigers tiger's Tigers. I've never seen a tiger tiger. I have seen Tigers kill Tigers. Of course. They're very territorial. So they can be very aggressive towards one another. But I have never seen a tiger eat another tiger. That's not to say. It's impossible. But I've never seen. It never heard of it. No impossible is a bunch of guerillas raising a human being a John you're on with Ron McGill. Go ahead. John. Wrong. Great. It's all to listen. I'm a backpacker, I respect. But I don't fear bears. However, I'm scared to death outlines how scared should I be? Well, you know, mountain lion is the type of animal that is going to stock. You could stock you, you know, all the attacks. You've ever heard him outlines or people getting jumped out from behind. I think you're aware of your surroundings all the time. It's much less of a chance. It's not going to say it's going to eliminate the chance. I agree with you with bears. You know, unless it's a Sal with cubs. You stand up with a bear in a bear keep your face. It's gonna go away. It's not going to Bob you're having said that mountain lions generally speaking, we're going to avoid you. I can tell you. There's probably a thousand doger's every day that come or in the side of a mountain lion them outline wants nothing to do with them. Of course, every now, and then you get one of those attacks and everybody freaks out it's kind of like a plane crash. So having said that I don't wanna say don't be afraid of them definitely respect them. But if you're aware of your environment, you have much less of a chance of you face a mountain lion. He's not gonna come at. You amount line is gonna get you from behind. Do you have a video forces week? Oh, I do. I do. Let me go. Here we go. You guys ready? Yes. Play by play. We end the segment every week with play by play of a video. We hit the play button. Okay. We got a bird. It looks like it's flying in a mall versus oh, there's a cat the bird. "Thousand dollars for them to help with a poaching patrols and help their their Rangers in the field. So we do a lot of stuff right in our backyard. And of course, we do things from Africa to Central America to just through my Ron go conservation and down. We've already given over one hundred thousand dollars worth of conservation work, whether it be new vehicles for research and poaching just bought a brand new motor for a vote doing studies in the Everglades in Florida bay for Audubon, Florida. So we do a lot in that respect that was excellent of unit. Take a zoo employee and plant that. Question. Ron Kevin you're on McGill zoo, Miami, go ahead. Kevin. Yes, right. I have a squirrel a gray squirrel in my basement. And I'm just wondering if this is something that I can take care of myself. I I leave to professionals. Let's oh, no, no, no, no leave that to professional unless you can just give them access out on his own. Don't try to catch him. Don't try to round them up. I don't know if you ever saw Monty python and the holy grail that that that scene with the rabbit. Okay. That's what a squirrel can turn into. He'll come right at your neck, man. He'll go right for the jugular sprawls can be vicious, especially as adults when they get scared. So don't be fooled by the cute little looking Bush little tail those animals can be very dangerous leave that to a professional. The I wonder if he lives in a cold climate or a warm climate because he might be going down there to get away from the cold. But if you can give it access so it get on it's own don't try to catch it on your own. Please don't those things are so fast, and they can bite really badly run. Ron DeSantis, Andrew Gillum bash each other in first Florida governor's race debate

"Of northwest, Florida. I will be there for you. You guys are resilient. You're fighting. This was a terrible storm, and we will rebuild. But I also think you have to just look at facts the fact that you look at south Florida, we need to do resiliency. You have more water you have what ding. So as governor. That's something that I'm going to take on full throttle. What I don't want to do is do what things like Andrew wants to do is do a California style energy policy that will cause our electricity rates to skyrocket. Twenty thirty percent. That's going to hurt senior citizens on a fixed income that'll hurt are blue collar workers. So let's deal with the issues that we can deal with. I'm somebody who has a plan to fix to stop the toxic algae that's been spewing into our rivers to divert that south of the lake restore the Everglades and restore Florida bay. We can get that. Don, I think I'm the candidate that can get that done. And I think now's the time to do it. Because if we don't take action over the next four years, I don't know if we're ever going to be able to restore the Everglades, so their rightful place Maryville. Well, I with Florida voters need to know is that when they elect me governor, they don't have a governor who believes in science, which we haven't had for quite some time in this state. I'm not sure what is so California about believing that the state of Florida lead in solar energy with notice the sunshine state at the very least what we can do is be a global leader. Here. We got to Seattle forty nine states of what to do. And what it means to have a state that quite frankly leans into the challenges of the green economy in bills one and at the same time bills and economy that lasts. I'm proud that the same week that Donald Trump pulled out of the Paris accord, I broke ground in my city on a one hundred and twenty acre solar farm tripling the amount of solar energy that we produce. We're prepared to lead and we've done so in my city, and we'll do so for the state now the two scuffled on the economy race in President Trump. As well.
