"But it's growing the number of plays bass dude. This is a you know what i was. One of my mentors told me. He said he asked his rhetorical question. He said there are a lot of books that are out there a lot of strategy books and then he asked this question he said. Is there a better strategy than the holy spirit and how that there really is in this kind of funny that you said that because that reminds me of him so yet i get that idea one day one morning. I say you know what i'm going to go with it. And it has turned out to be like every single other idea that god has given me his turned out to be a phenomenal ibn. I'm just horrible humbled. And i'm honored about all the people bit our fans that people that are followers. The people that say you know at vernon man. I've been so enriched and i've been so just elevated from your work. That's very humbling. Anna's very amid grateful for that. Let me say that. Because sometimes it's a little surreal to remind myself that you're like people follow you at tosa by either day. I said i had to remind myself that. Have quite a few people on twitter in low bid on instagram. To of quite a few people and they're just waiting to see what i'm going to say and the best little humbling but after remind myself of that. 'cause i just get busy in what i get busy and just exactly what's on my shirts. I get busy. With what believing studying hustling manifesting. In repeating. i stopped. I really think about that process. And that's a very good thing. Man appreciate you being a believer. Someone is focused in who has their seed in. I'd environment s inspiring to someone like myself as i go every day to make sure my seed is in the right place so keep doing what. You're doing approve. You know what i'm gonna tell you. This is that the honor the privilege and a pleasure is all mine. You're doing great work. You're doing phenomenal work. You're just and what can i say other than coach. You're the bomb right. And that was just a little joke folks. Don't go to bomb dot com. Don't do that. I don't wanna be responsible for. Somebody says there's some crazy stuff. They came on my computer. Whatever but i do wanna say they're so in all seriousness your an influence or my man. You really are and More than you probably even see yourself as being and it's just an honor to be in your space and to learn from you until are with you man a really is humbled by their. It will thank. You managed to keep that in mind. I need a job reference. One day i will tell you this my man if you listen to me clear is what i'm gonna tell you first of all you don't even need to ask permission you can go ahead and list me okay and then once you list me. I'm we'll go ahead and ask you want me to tell the folks. Because what. I what i'm going to ask them at the end at the end of the interview of the phone call reference. I have one last question for you. And i know i did this one time and it just freaked me out and she asked me she said yeah shurmur short will the one question you have and this is a great place. Get where you're gonna laugh on this one folks because it was a little unorthodox. But i asked her. I said the last question. I have for you. Ma'am simply why have you not hired this person. She was kinda choose. Take him back a little bit and she and she started on chuckling or laughing. But i said that. That was a little bit of an attempt at humor. Pretty decent one i think. But what it really was communicating was. What ma'am you gotta a legit candidate before you. And if you don't take this candidate. I assure you ma'am someone else. Will somebody else will. Yeah because what we experience in education is similar to what is experienced in other sectors. And i say it. This way is somebody who's been on the other side of that job for table in so many different places in so many different venues over the years when you're on the other side of that job for table when you're at a campus in you have vacancies to fill you. Want the best talent and it doesn't just mean people that have the best credentials are. What have you on paper were looking for. That are legit people. I'm looking for people that know how to connect with kids. They know how to be the seal that we think all educators should have and should be and should know about but don't they should have that in addition to all the credentials in the other. Things i say this to those folks that are out there having their credentials as good. That's important you need to have those things. Obviously for the different states in particularly here in the state of texas. But i will say this to you. Folks talent in really legit good. Talent is part of what is important. What makes someone a game changer. But again if you want all of the steps to becoming a game changer. Go to shape the right vision dot com or is simply go to link tree. The coach is going to put in the and the article. Mr right Coming on a show my brother and thank you again for coming on the pleasure. The honor and the privilege is all mine. "That we observe as we flip resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends that we will discuss and long with a recommended reading. That will share. That goes with each of the four trans. We end the episode by peering into the crystal ball and making predictions about the trends. We believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks so abby start us off by talking about are four trends in sharing are recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes are four trends. Will the first two translate the top trending items than the largest number of articles that we flipped into our flipboard magazine in the past two weeks were the same as the last as the last episode number one hardware and software. We saw tablet These are tablets that are specifically for reading books. pdf etc tablets for reading g. Mail gets a redesign specifically g mail. Rooms are now g mail spaces. Google meet also gets an update a again specifically more visible hand raise requests There's also a recommended alternatives to adobe photoshop. This was a good article that listed a number of alternatives for anyone. Who's doesn't have access to photoshop but needs to manipulate images in an image files. There were oculus quest updates. There was the voila. A artist reviewed. I'm i'm assuming that many of you listening out. There are liked him and myself and have played a little bit with voila a artists. One of the nice things about this particular article was that discussed. How one's data is managed personal data that the app itself makes use of an and collects. Facebook releases live audio rooms which allows people to broadcast live from within facebook but the recommendation read in. This area is microsoft's new fluid office. Documents are coming to life in teams one note and more by tom. Warren for the verge. As always. I apologize if i mispronouncing anybody's names This new fluid sense of documents though is something that Tim and i were talking about earlier and tim. We were saying it's not difficult for us to kind of catch up with this well. It's still a little bit of a challenge for somebody like me but it's it's not bad but it is the sort of thing that we're going to. We suspect we're going to have to describe to mentor colleagues. So by virtue of the fact that we're describing this too many of our colleagues. We think this is an important article to read just to get up to speed on what fluid office documents actually are our second trend. Instructional design and teaching in general. This was the same as last episode and we are thrilled to see this as a strong trend. There are a lot articles about. Instructional design strategies and teaching in general badging and micro learning strategies learning measurement. There was a report suggesting the teachers are more likely to experience. Depression systems symptoms than any other adults. And we're not happy about that. It's we're just reporting that this is the case but this is something that should be looked at by all of us who are in education. A new book teaching machines the history of personalized learning by audrey waters. It's a book that examines the history literally the history of teaching machines and that brought back. Happy memories to us for those of you. Who don't know statement..

"It's a huge challenge to try to make sure that that these are secure environments but it's also an opportunity for ed tech to become more involved in teaching citizenship and good good security practices Among our own students. I don't know if i actually said that. Well but i hope you get the idea. I think everyone can understand what you're saying. Okay yeah and i guess maybe that's part of my problem with not being able to say it well is that it's still kind of murky right distance but we suspect that this will become more and more of a critical issue. Yeah we as. I mean especially with recent events that as we mentioned the pipeline issue and and those things for sure right and there is a reaction from the government's saying you need to know people who are making overseeing this kind of software needs to be right provide more guarantees of its security. Exactly so okay. Well that's that's well that brings us to the conclusion of episode one hundred eighty five. "In the upcoming two weeks abbey start us off by talking about are four trends and sharing are recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes well as always. We've looked at all the articles that we flipped into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks and the articles are it's not a very scientific approach because they're basically articles that are of interest to us. We think that they will be of interest to others in our field and what we discovered as always. We came up with four trending topics number. One is a common topic for. it's not. It's not a shock but it was a big one this past two weeks because there was a lot of reveals and announcements hardware and software amazon announced its new line of fire tablets for older kids which is an interesting a new product that they're putting out because as most people know the fire tablets for the kids are kid friendly but they're also sort of kid designed so that they look very very attractive too much younger kids. These are for older children who are There are a little sleeker designed their little more sophisticated looking there little less bumper car bumper. Every i think you may quote i love was gonna say you're going to see that headline somewhere. Don't most kids tablets. There may to sort of you know bumper at for good reason now There is also the the announcement of the new galaxy book pro and galaxy book pro three sixty which were well reviewed Increased popularity in cloud services at universities. This should really come as a surprise to anyone but it is important to note that the number of universities that are making the switch to cloud services there are news zoom features Some of which are really fun. There's one where you can put everybody participating in the meeting in the same backdrop which it's again just something interesting and fun to promote a group Sally it's there's a new google design and the big one from the past. Two weeks was apple's product announcements at introduced its product line for the upcoming year and so we saw a lot of apple related news and i think we flipped three different stories. That were just related to the apple. Release last year. However our recommended reading in this area is this powerful lesser known tech tools for teachers by michelle eden for edutopia. This is a interesting article. Tim you and i were talking about this before. We started recording that we weren't familiar with many of the products that were being listed by By michelle eden and again. I apologize if i'm mispronouncing anybody's name Any of our authors names but these were a really interesting list of lesser known tools. Just exactly what she says back but they they make some great ideas for adding to wants toolkit. Our second trend of the past two weeks is remote teaching and learning with emphasis on pandemic related. That's so that it pretty much..

"Our four trends and are recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes we have four trans as we always do. The two top trends had lots of articles that we flipped the two trends the numbers three and four fewer articles but still more than any others therefore they they form trends number three and four so trend number one. No surprise to anyone who's ever listened to any of our podcasts hardware and software. We flipped a lot of articles about hardware and software into our flipboard magazine. These past two weeks many of them had to do with microsoft in a variety of ways so for example microsoft is discontinuing windows ten november two thousand nineteen update s and so the well the update for windows so there and they've given people a plenty of warning about this but they're if anybody's using a windows operating system they need to update to the latest one sometime within the upcoming months Also in microsoft there was a microsoft edge bug report fairly serious one where edge wouldn't shut down when it was supposed to so. That's that's a good good thing to be aware of. We had articles about the global computer chip shortage which we had mentioned in an earlier. Episode But the and. I think anyone who's been paying attention to. The international news knows that computer chips are at a premium right now because they're used in so many different things and because the The need for or the the The requests for computing tools during the pandemic increased so significantly. This caused kind of up a shortage of computer chips. It's possible to produce them. They just hadn't planned to produce quite as many so. The the shortage won't last forever. It's just something to be aware of now. for apple users. Irs update the latest ios update for phones and ipads considered critical in terms of security. So all of our listeners. Who are using anything. That has an ios time to update if you haven't done so in the past week..

"The upcoming two weeks saw abbey start off by talking about our fortunes and sharing are recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes as always. We have four trends We had there. Were lots of articles this last two weeks of were kind of back to our normal number of articles that we generally see It's interesting the way the trends formed In the past weeks what we do is we do sort of a for for all of your listeners. Out there once again just a how we arrive at these trends after we flipped all of the articles that we think are introduced to our To anybody in our field into our flipboard magazine we do a simple count and we started looking at you. Know how many articles about different subjects were put into the Were flipped into the flipboard magazine. So what we saw was really two big trends and two smaller trends and they kind of divide perfectly half-and-half so for the first big trend. The we saw the most articles in the past two weeks directly related to remote teaching and learning we articles about being present in online learning strategies for maintaining online presence. The future of education and online learning was on number of articles about this. This how the future going to look like now that we have these new strategies and tools in place plans to expand online education for. Us workers The the the the company is called to you But there's a big plan for expansion in this area hybrid models. We've been a lot of people have been discussing hybrid models of of instruction in the past Year or so. And it's still one of those things that it's difficult to fully articulate. Explain and we're we're still challenged by creating that that good articulation of hybrid the changing role of teachers and technologies reflections on distance. Learning and teaching. And this is one. We had predicted a while ago him. We see a number of articles about people reflecting on the experience. Great article from the new york times this past two weeks where the instructor was saying. You know. I liked teaching on zoo. It was like sort of a embarrassed. Admission that the and gas from other teachers right well my goodness but but again these reflects writer. Important formative assessment strategies prerecord videos can boost student. Learning this was very interesting. Bit of of data we would recommended the re but we can pretty much give you the the information right here. About that prerecorded. Videos can boost student learning and apparently they're actually preferred in a lot of ways to a face to face instructional moment so along. Those lines are recommended. Read is putting your best self. Oh six.

"The economic and political power structure when the school board years back says. We're gonna outlaw critical. We are proud. And i look at it. This is not about democrat oak and it is not about region or our banner we have increasingly complex and uncertain future and the economist. And all of these other publications years ago. Were saying that your child in the third grade now doing work that doesn't exist yet. So what we really need to be focused on is probably understand so our we understand each other and how megyn our way through things by asking questions humidity go i practicing curl robbie one listening owning. We're actively considering what i was saying. We don't learn new. Schools are still in school. We don't know how to be mindful. Young learn were will or. I don't have a good argument with somebody. And you really important skill so when you asked me about how we have so many people would understand that said no crackers when we have a lot more than we think the mob the mob beer warehouses greek on america code of silence. Here a lot more of those guys in the media talking about the bad things about their prakash than i do teachers except when their lives are threatened by having to go back to school during pandemic nobody's grew as a pretty extreme condition and yet got so many other dumpster fire. People can probably panic about that. I think when we look at our children's future there's no cost learning this year. Every young person i know learned a lot. Since last march martin campuses were closed. What they're learning whether it about presidency whether it is race whether it's about what's important to know open question in every single time or i haven't even been snooze and i asked him what is going to be interested in. I've never had a loss for an answer. It takes them awhile thinking about it because they've never been asked and those modes of atrophied and they don't have gained looking like a good student once they get that i really okay then really interesting in a hurt and i am in administration. Probably some of the bad guys in most people's is one of the saddest things i think in my career is when i run across a student. Who's about to graduate. And they don't know what they're gonna do and you don't they don't even have a clue of even trying to find out and it's like pulling teeth it's like they owe you money or something just clams up. And that's so sad that we have children who have shut who have played the. So much that they have just cocooned him sales into a not known their own future. So i find it frustrating as an administrator to see her net appreciate you as an administrator difficult job and you have to go through acculturation into those roles again. Those games and by the time a lot of people do they lost the initial something that drew them to their professional burglars. Neil jurgens ation to execute that level of wire and thing to do a lot of administrators. We both met over the years if something goes wrong about this theory stars whatever lighten either given up regenerate a long time ago galaxy way when they still believe beijing in conversation be rightly. Appreciate a man so hard. Working teachers get training to incorporate these ideas into their curriculum soccer individual coaching. Our group words will docker battled news and for organizations associations and unions by me and my website david dot all finding on twitter at learning. And you know. I heard you say about young person who who's on our brand new not knowing making something. They don't usually usually come back with something like yeah reading the rodeo repairs. We say shit in this box thing that way though rings and by the way but he thinks that the bill and pavlovich psychological just as a reminder your audience with them a teacher and i can't help myself. He was not a columnist or a psychiatrist. It was not a mental or additive function of shallow me. When the bell rang he was a medical doctor was busy argument and physical response. So we're not even reaching unbelievable. Mind those kinds of practices. Were treating them like dogs. And so when. I hear a young person means school like that. And they're allow readings whether it's a barren whether it's a racial or ethnic cultures. Most of my students are coming from central america. Where in the. I am news considered disrespectful. We don't really understand those dynamics because there are no trainings for that. I was lucky in the sense but i grew up in los angeles and i learned from all sorts of different people with all sorts of different backgrounds. My friends and my neighbors and my meeting where my agents but it is a disconnect because on the one hand i wouldn't take advice for my eighteen year old so so not knowing the old plan when you're that old okay. There's some beauty in that actually. Is we get more information. Americans change careers something like six seven times but at the same time. He's cruel unusual to say shit still. He derives on your own paper. Don't speak don't even go to. The bathroom was raising and gone through all that back before anybody document within his about campus. When i come back again when you go into the working world twi can you communicate more effectively. Be a better player. Solve problems cr tunes and when you asking the question about what i've seen from school i think it's we need. We need to address. Bunny and the need isn't push people through a battery model just toward the university requirements or graduation credits. We had our be more minor that is creating into society but isn't donal and when you look at documentaries social runner or when you see what happened recently capital or when you see what happened with george floyd. This is literally bars and i think where point where for a long time. It was not to say. Now william. I know that mrs jones as we go through that and personalities and beside you graduate you'll have your parents not better just throw it through appeared lot social contract bro not ethical or moral shale young person. Just supper i had to get now. Nobody knows next in colleges and universities are gonna profit margins instead a whether getting out of high school so i really think that we haven't talked a little bit more about peril than the opportunity we can people themselves again instead of playing a role writing murky at his gray line about her stage. Never been on a first date your representative and when will show up in school bowl place. It's a dangerous. Not just in terms of violence or bullying or medical of us but in terms of being who we are and having our integrity connecting our thoughts and our words and actions so opening the source reconnecting the passionate curiosity that anyone who's been around binding rules is just offer charters one to integrating dipper really wonderful resources in school. I'm not on school. Were for the only place where you later person on campus everywhere else in all you got architects enhancer problems. Because they understand the design and structure so having an interdisciplinary experience and back owns the source and then using the internet not only help with our unit driver in our democracy in our lifestyle but using that as a way to connect with people all over the world based on our interest. I or not that. We created some trust and interdependence will use the worry backing off on the internet. And that's terrible there there you side. There's like born gambling on my adams's news. Go through this. i'm advised. Where rebounds a mormon. Nash do wrong thing. Online verse excellent. I know exactly what you're talking about. Because i used to do the same thing and it's it's a mind shift in order to get educated on board with the way education is going. It's not even where he is. Now where we're at now education past that an order for us to be a viable nation and have sovereignty as we have experienced it which is a good thing for us all the sovereignty of america in order for us to continue that we need to reshape. "That we observed as we flipped resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends. We're gonna share along with a recommended reading that. We suggest that you read. That goes with each of the four trends we in the episode as we normally do by hearing into the crystal ball and making predictions about the trends. We believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks. Abby start off by talking about are four trends and sharing recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes as you said. We have four trends that we identified by looking at everything that we flipped into our flipboard magazine. These past two weeks. We did not have a huge number of articles although we certainly had enough to identify four clear trends But once again we didn't see as many articles and perhaps it's the time of year because we don't see as many research reports. Come out at this time of year as well. And we're not coming up on a big purchasing holiday so we don't see as many articles about new hardware but we did see four interesting things first of all. We did see hardware and software as being our first our top trend but most of it was software updates so we saw things like ios for the on operating system we saw the fourteen point four update. We saw google meet introduce something called green room which allows one to preview the audio and video before engaging in a in a meeting. We saw classroom connectivity review. Now this is for of hardware. As for the the t mobile hotspot we saw recommendations for managing zoom software we This is probably particularly interesting from just sort of a change in the overall approach to Some software that we all use. Google is planning to move away from using cookies. So cookies for all of us is anytime that the is how are search when we're searching this is how Advertisers are able to tell what we've searched for what we've engaged in and allows for targeted advertising. And it's something that has always been a controversial because people do not like being that individually that they could actually be because a cookie is actually bouncing off of your your own Search software so it becomes sort of like like for me. It's like we'll abby. Did you look at these. Lego toys lately and sort of like That's a little. That's more personal than i really want you to get..

"Where we review the trends and issues in instructional design educational technology and learning sciences that we observed as we flip resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends that we will share along with a recommended reading that is associated with each of these trends once we discussed those. We peer into the crystal ball and make predictions about the trends. We believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks. Abbey start off by talking about are four trends and sharing are recommended. Readings thank you. Tim are four trends. Sort of divide out into two massively big trends that we've split down into four more manageable trans so the first one what we saw greatest majority of articles for the past two weeks was about hardware and software in general but we split that out because we saw a number of articles about hardware and software for example from the consumer electronics show. But we also saw a number of articles about specifically instructional tools and resources that Were being compiled and recommended specifically for teaching and for learning so we split that into two trent so our first trend is hardware and software. We saw the vast majority of articles about that things like reports from the consumer electronics show. C e s flexible phone screens were introduced. New and updated. Laptops were are reviewed in the last two weeks a number of a upgraded apple products are expected later in the spring and in the early summer including macbook pros where with the return of the mag safe option. Where the magnetic charger. Which i don't know about you. I'm very excited about personally. And why did they get rid of that in the first place. A one one one. We'll never know. I'm so excited about because i may life a little bit easier. Microsoft teams updates. Now there's something called meeting recaps. Which makes it easier to sort of review. What went on during a meeting a Chrome and a brave browser updates. So these are all. These are all very specifically hardware-software. The working pieces that that everybody uses not just educators or students. Our recommended read in this area for those of us who do create things for our students tend fabulous free apps for working with audio video and images by doug ameth for fast company and as always i apologize if i'm mispronouncing anybody's name But these are. These are ten really good app recommendations for for working with with multimedia things that students can use in their projects things that instructors and teachers can use in their own instruction where second out for sure worth checking out number two..

"flipboard magazine" Discussed on Trends & Issues in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, and Learning Sciences

"Welcome to episode one hundred seventy five of our podcast where we review the trends and issues in instructional design educational technology and learning sciences that we observed as we flip resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. It's a little unusual. We normally have four trends that we talk about but due to The number of articles. We flipped we. Don't and abby. We'll we'll talk about that what we observed but we do have as we normally do four recommended readings that we will share with you In this episode saw abbey start us all by sharing where we are this over the past two weeks and what. We observed in sharing our four recommended readings. Thank you. that's you're right. I mean what we what we have in episode one. Seventy five is very similar a similar situation to what we had an episode one seventy three two episodes ago we have we normally in a normal episodes span of two weeks. We would normally collect thirty to forty stories on our flipboard magazine. Well in the last two weeks. We only flipped fourteen stories into the flipboard magazine. That happened in during episode. One seventy three as well that two week time span. We only had twelve or thirteen stories. So under the circumstances we don't really have anything specifically trending for top trends because we don't have enough to interpolate from. We suspect you. And i were talking about this just before we started recording. We suspect that in the last two weeks the focus of media attention has been on the pandemic vaccine news and of course Continued focused coverage on that aspect of of the world at this point along with that there has been renewed interest in the past two weeks in the presidential. Us presidential election coverage because of some of the disputes Or the Attempts to dispute the election outcome so with those kind of worldwide. Big attention news items. We suspect that People were doing a little bit less focused on instructional technology and on at probably everybody was doing a little bit less focusing on their sort of specific discipline so overall overall we did see kind of two. We won't call them trends. We'll just say that there were sort of some patterns We saw in the few stories that we looked at. We saw stories that about remote teaching and learning. We saw a story about the digital divide. We saw a story about creating and maintaining community among learners. We saw a story about promoting deep learning and these are all promoting deep learning. All of these things are among remote learners..

"Welcome to episode one hundred and seventy four of our podcast where we review the trans issues and instructional design educational technology and learning sciences. That we observe as we flip resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends that we will discuss along with a recommended reading. That will share. That goes with each of the four trends. So abby start us off by talking about are four trends and sharing are recommended readings. Thank you him. Well for those of you who are regular listeners. heard Or at least heard episode one seventy three the most recent episode before this one. We're back to normal. We've we we've seem to have the similar number of articles flipped into the flipboard magazine as we have regularly in the past so we had that little dip About a month ago but we're back to sort of our regular amount. The media once again is paying attention to educational technology and instructional design the way they have traditionally so number one no surprise to anyone at this time of year the the tr- the top trending topic is hardware and software and we predicted it. We well in. It's pretty easy to protect your kids. I i was trying to pat ourselves on the back right. We did predict it. And we've been doing this awhile. We do this regularly but it is that time of year. It's that time of year and so we see first of all. We saw a number of apple product reviews and the release of big sur. We also saw specifically in article about apple's clips app which apparently is working exceptionally well for a number of people in terms of sharing a little mini screen casts back and forth as their teaching and and as they're learning apparently learners also send these clips To teachers to figure out what the next step is. We saw virtual math manipulatives. We saw a hoot purchase drops drops language app. I believe and they That's kind of a big deal because it solidifies cahoots coats already pretty solid but it brings this new extra utility into the Universe salesforce has been seriously discussing a purchasing slack. And that may happen sometime this week. Apparently it's pretty close to to to finish in terms of a deal but that's a big deal for both salesforce and slack are ludo is a gaming app for the natural sciences. That was also an article that we flipped in. There's a new robot tutor. It's kind of pricey. I mean we're talking about the whole model being somewhere around five hundred dollars and there are school models that are about one hundred dollars more and I'm not sure how. I feel about the fact that it's named a b. I which i think is pronounced abby. It has.

"Negative news sales so they they do a lot of it like to walk through and keep on tv. I personally feel that the news characterize the division between both parties. I think that it would also help to polarize america along with some rhetoric that happened on both sides. You look at one candidate or the previous president. I would say something. And then he will get eight up in the media but the response where justice negative than we gotta be careful when we are leading students because they can see that too. Yeah like to me like one media out of media and we know they are all conservative. Everything right on this side and then you have clearly by liberal. Everyone right on a when you have to believe that everything. I do a right like no communication. We communicate you really grow so we had like more responsible media extra life just on it and then probably better. Hey man. I want to thank you for talking with us on our show. "Sciences that we observed as we flip resources into our Flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends that we all share and we have a recommended reading that goes along with each of these Trends. We in the episode by peering into the crystal ball and making predictions about the trends We Believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks Abby took us off by talking about our fortunes and sharing our for recommended readings. Thank you Tim. Yes, we have four Trends three of which I think most people will be very familiar with one of which is new and we'll explain why it kind of formed its own Trend. And yes, so we we looked at everything we flipped articles that we thought were of interest to people and Structural design and educational technology into our Flipboard magazine and from the past two weeks. We've distilled these four Trends number one teaching and learning online. We saw articles about why moving to online instruction will not reduced costs for for Education. We saw an article on providing students with a sense of connectedness engaging students an article from inside higher ed that supported the idea that better teaching is going to minimize cheating which makes a lot of sense. I mean even even regardless of the the venue when uses transition from video learning to other forms of of instruction, for example virtual learning using a virtual environment home. We saw intentional online program design. We saw a Content curation versus original content kind of a discussion of which how much one should have of both. Those things in anyone online course and providing teachers with training to improve their own online offerings. Our recommended read in this area is what incoming first-year students want online learning to be by James n Cork for educause review. And again, I apologize if I'm mispronouncing any authors names. This is a really interesting read in educause and Tim. I was laughing not laughing smiling. We were very proud of how doctors worked with his we assume a member of the family because the at the end of the article it says the article was authored by James M Kirk.

"Sciences that we observed as we flip resources into our Flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have fortunes that we will share along with a recommended reading that we suggest for each of these Trends. We in the episode by peering into the crystal ball and making predictions about the trans We Believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks off hobby start us off by talking about our fortunes and sharing our recommended readings. Thank you Tim. Yes. Well, first of all just to reiterate for everybody we are following what we do in our Flipboard magazine is we flip articles that we think are of interest in regarding educational technology instructional design learning sciences, and this is Joe. The point in the two weeks cycle where we look at all of those and we kind of count them up and we do we figure out how many fit into specific topic areas. And those we decide those are the top four Trends in this past two weeks cycle. We saw two items Trend number one and number two with a lot of articles that we flipped. So, you know ten or more articles in that area wage Trends 3 and 4. We only saw three or four articles, but they were more articles than anything and than any other topic that we had seen. So our number one kind of what they used to say about the Billboard charts number one with a bullet teaching and learning online. Now in the past few weeks past few episodes. We've occasionally divided up into teaching online and learning online. But in the past two weeks, the two topics really blended into this once again into teaching and learning online. They're worth For things like course design strategies which are specifically teaching online but there was also things like peer-to-peer online learning the blockchain approach to learning which is about learning online there was but so we saw a number of these different things we put them together though because there was the the the trending topic is all about how to log in teach online class size of online college courses was an interesting result. It's a limited study but the study reveals that the best size for an online college courses twelve participants or fewer..

"The qualities in issue, right quality becomes an issue and quality of the experience becomes an issue for everybody as well. So we're we expect to see a lot more about that and we expect to see a lot more about the digital divide. Yes. Right. I mean if we're asking people to engage in these online learning experiences, they have to have the equipment to do so exactly so that's an interesting point as well as the digital divide. We're not only is it the general equipment but also our is everything that we're providing ada-compliant. All right is everything that we're providing actually useful to our audience. So it's a big question. We're going to see a lot more about on-line teaching. We're going to see more about remote learning as we have an Choi. We're hopeful that we'll see more a hardware software some of our more. I don't know how to put it exactly regular trends that we normally see. Yeah Hardware software has been a trend we've had for years so coming is coming gone, but it's coming up but we've also right we see regularly we start teaching online very regularly well wage, Yeah, so that's that's really what we expect to see in the next in the upcoming weeks Jim.
