"flip saunders" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix

"He just played a a more fitting role on an offense kind of side slasher and his three pointers. Were much more. Because he's playing with steph curry so he shot a career high thirty eight percent from three. It's not. I don't think he got necessarily became a better three point shooter. He just got better shots. So i think they believe could be a thirty eight percent three point shooter planning an offense with steph curry. And you're also gonna klay thompson next season. I'm when we talk about spacing And you know so. So i think offensively. They didn't necessarily unlock different player. They could really use him as a small forward. The defense is what has elevated his value. League-wide has elevated. What they believe he can be. I mean he was really consistent. You talk to ron adams. Who is you know straightforward and and defensive mind. And i know you've had conversations with ron in the past like he's not he's not going to sugar coat it just like he really thinks. Andrew wiggins is like a top ten wing defender league and if you watch them on a nightly basis. Okay the plane the wizards he's garden bradley. Beal pretty well right. Now they're playing the portland garden. Damian lillard pretty. Well you saw him in the play and like he. He threw a lebron shot back in his face You know at one point. He was top ten blocks. I think he finished twentieth. Or so. but probably top five among wing defenders. He's good and they believe they've got to a level where he understands the winning team. Defense better they say he's still closes out a little bit too late. Sometimes he still gets back cut occasionally but he stopped doing a lot of that he started rebounding better. He was on a winner which i think he needed to see. So i believe yes like the android you saw in the last twenty. Five games is who they believe. They're going to get moving forward. Is he worth thirty. One million no but is he worth twenty. What would get on the as a free agent of the season. That's hard to say you know the the defense your right is the difference maker with him. And he's always had that potential right. Like i remember flip saunders. His rookie year would always deploy him on the top wing player on the other team just to get him that experience because he believed that the instincts the reflexes. Everything was there if you could just put it all together. But at some point minnesota to stop doing that he wasn't he was a much better defensive player with golden state this year but he wasn't any point time as last three years in minnesota. something changed. Maybe it is as you said winning culture. You know you're part of a franchise that values winning or has had winning more than minnesota. I mean you walk in the locker room and draymond green is going to in your face if you just made to the first half and then ron adams over there telling you what you can be an and like you know that that's a.

Wolves fire Saunders, hire Finch as new coach

"We've got a head coaching change in the nba. The timber wolves have fired head coach. Saunders but i. I had a game to play brian. Sanders was coaching against the guy. He replaced tom sibito of the new york knicks. Having a great season there is game. Went down to the wire. Karl anthony towns had shot in the post to try and take the lead with thirty seconds left over his former teammate. Taj gibson but it rimmed out on a rim in madison square garden. Where the ball. Just capterra women out on sunday and that was ryan saunders. Final quarter as head. Coach of the minnesota timberwolves took over for his late father. Flip saunders in twenty nineteen thirty four year old had a string of injuries to deal with and played many many close games and the timber wolves already have saunders replacement chris finch who was a raptors assistant coach. This season has been given a multi year deal by the minnesota timberwolves to coach them full time. It's a rare move to pluck an assistant from another team. Mid season to take over job just doesn't happen very often. Usually the team that fires a head coach just moves their assistant over for a while at the very least when the full job search can be done until the full job search can be done in the off season but they had been looking at chris finch for a long time in fact he interviewed in twenty nineteen when ryan saunders was eventually given the job and finch like his good friend raptors head coach. Nick nurse coached abroad for a longtime uk. Germany and belgium then moved to the g. league and then was assistant in the nba for a decade. And he's an offensive specialist who worked with james harden in zion. Now he'll have the chance to work with karl. Anthony towns anthony edwards.

The roster had to bring in probably eight or nine new players from young players from veterans and I was really proud of our guys. Every individual player got better on the team. We're really peaking at the right time going into that wack tournament. I think we had a chance to win it all on Then. That morning when we woke up on the very day, we're gonna have our first black tournament game. We got the news that that this season was canceled, and so there was Was a letdown. There was in our players with frustrated and I think I think everyone, especially the seniors in that situation. Didn't want to go out that way. But you have to live with that. Just start getting settled in tow the community here and Oram, Utah. But it's been excited to see our players come together to share. Our players start to gel, and we're very hopeful that we're gonna have A season on DH. We're very hopeful that we'll have a great season, but it's just I think the biggest thing that I really appreciate it just being able to spend time with our players. On the court off the court. And build those relationships. You know, obviously we're working hard on the court. But we're trying to a few other things, too. We took him on a hike. "You Ass and Jad a little bit of bad news from cubs nation not overwhelming. Yeah we talked about the You know veep point of no return basically on. Is it a bummer? That they die. Boys is by. Is it a little easier to take? That number gets a little bit higher and some melancholy news from cubs nation. Tell us about Jen. Yes so we were told. Today that on Sunday longtime cubs executive who was at the Orphanage Organization for over thirty years doing various roles eldred salty. Salt well salty salty salt of all right on tales of salty with salt assault. Well that you could share with. Perhaps the non cub portion of the Radio Audience. So before before he got with the cubs he started off as being an usher with the Sioux city team. This was back when there was still. What was it? The Western League the Western League. Remember any of that. I mean we're talking like forty eight existed for about sixty years. I think it went away. Like nineteen fifty eight so I can't say that This forty one year old can really tell you about the league. That's how we started their works. His way to a whole bunch of different jobs did a lot of concessional. Things found his way into Chicago. Late fifties healed the traveling secretary John Costanza job with the team as well right right which he would also go on to do with the cubs as well over thirty years consent manager another nickname for him at another point. Was General Manager Hotdogs General Manager concession under various Secretary Stage Some possibility various secretary positions and also treasurer positions. He spent a one year as GM of the cubs only one year because he did not so during wipe the job. Yeah well it's not that he didn't like the I guess he didn't really he wasn't. He wasn't mean tough man. He needs someone to make critical decisions and and be be tough and he didn't WanNa do it so you might not remember his one year of being edgy. 'em In one thousand nine hundred seventy six but if you're Chicagoan you definitely know him. As the man who came up with the idea to put baskets on the outfield walls to save and also the man who just kind of never really got around to offering. Steve Stone a contract. Okay see my story about him was how he was disliked because he got rid of Kestler and he got rid of Andre Thornton and if I'm not mistaken and I've been known to make a mistake in in my time know mistake to in my time but Andre Thornton was treated I would've said to the Indians but He was actually traded to the Montreal. Expos where he had about half as many hits as Pete rose did but I don't think Andre Thornton was necessarily getting the aid of a lighter bat if you know what I'm saying so Traded for Larry Bittner and Steve Ranko on May Seventeenth nineteen seventy six and. That was a tough year for cubs. Fans it was just a tough tough year for cubs fans to see their heroes. Go usually it's not the and this Theo Epstein Jed Hoyer for awesome certainly did nothing of the sort but there are a lot of front offices. That figured you'RE GONNA play in Jews. The party that is the hands of cubs fans. And you're going to keep the fan favorites around that. That was a big emphasis behind the decision. Not to even consider right. Sandberg manage the team that was on the higher dale sway of and. That didn't go very well now. There's a long stretches long long stretches of things in Chicago. That didn't go very well. So seventy six cubs were not terrible. They were seventy five and eighty seven but Salt salt well lasted just fourteen months in the job resigned. November twenty four th nineteen seventy six and now he's resigned from is that just for baseball is his time with us. It's time with us so the to everybody in from Sioux city to Chicago and all the salty salt well kin worldwide. Sorry yes very much. So we're sorry I asked you for your guard for him in stories. Those a lot on elevated salt will be honest with you. Jed Ninety six years old and I've been around for about half of his life never never knew who the guy was never knew. The Guy was until just afternoon till he was broad. I told Scott that passenger son you never learned to love her until you let her go really sad song. Budweiser commercial. Several super bowls ago. Never until it starts to snow every now and then it comes on the office radio and I still little tear to will come down my face because my mind just remembers little dog. Yeah but riser clydesdales one one CLYDESDALE popey Super Bowl commercials. Those liberal commercials. I didn't get to the fact. That Don Shula coached in the League for a time that kind of span the middle of NFL history being that he coached against George Halas. Who who coached in the first year of the NFL? We don't celebrate it NFL. One hundred last year hundred one years ago George. Alice coaching in the National Football League. Not Shula wasn't coaching then. But was there at the beginning. Check is there at the end. He's coached against both men. It'd be it only had a winning record against both of them might have been undefeated. I think it was like five zero against palace and Belichick. Two names generally don't end up in the same sentence except they are common opponents of Don Shula. That's that's what you get when you live to be ninety in your around you'll and you start at a very young age. Say Just in case you happen to miss it. Maybe even busy the last couple of days we also lost do Don Shula at the age of ninety the other day. So that's what Jeff is. Referencing of course talked about marshawn lynch so Tom Come Timoteo fairly. He was fired by the Minnesota. Temporal say that were not rolled off the top of my tongue. I just might maybe a little bit my disconnect from basketball they named Flip Saunders named I think Flip Saunders is awesome passed away but they flip. Saunders named his son the coach of the team. It was a rough go because they had deal at the whole Jimmy Butler situation. There revolted was not happy. If you recall just like two seasons ago like he did the one he did the unhappy season Villi. He had the unhappy season in Minnesota seasons. We've got to make a movie when he was at the balls. I cannot keep straight everybody's whiny I don't WanNa be here seasons anymore they're all just one wad of whiny. I don't WanNA play. I don't want to do my job. People talk a tough manically for me. I think that there's this reputation that these guys that demand a lot from their players are not quote unquote players coaches. You know these guys want somebody. That's their body. Somebody that doesn't have the stones to to scream and yell at them so that they can keep their you know they're very very fragile egos intact and the Knicks. The Nets are all interested in these services of time. He's GonNa make complete defense is GonNa make them work hard at practice and you know Tom. Typical is a guy that has a head coach. I don't think that he's going to be able to win. In the League because superstars that are the level of superstar that you need them to be in. The National Basketball Association are not team players. They are Prima Donnas and Prima Donnas will not work with drill sergeants. And that's essentially. What you get Antipasto and the Knicks the nets and the rockets maybe not the rockets but the Knicks the nets. They need an attitude. Adjustment Rockets needs some ego control. I don't know how that works with James Harden at Russell Westbrook and a strong head coach. Russ gets got away with an Oklahoma City. They got away with it under the current regime there in Houston but they wanted. And that's a big deal. Yeah all right. So That's enough basketball. Got Nothing about our mandatory basketball for the evening Kevin Durant. It would be so unfair if durant could push over. I am calling. It's Schwarzer even in terms of getting in journ. Just gotTA chill in Reston. Maybe not being around all the playoffs. But then you know and you get to the finals and it means something maybe maybe then pop back up and give it a shot will. You couldn't quite pull that off. Because the mets let's don't have either carrier wrinkly twenty games and he shot it down so for all the money the netspend this off season. They knew that they weren't going to get much out of. Kevin Durant are not sure that they. I'm not sure what they were expecting from. Kyrie irving was like Kyrie Irving was unhappy in Cleveland. So you're forced trade ends up in Boston. He ends up unhappy so he waits for his contract to run out and signed with the nets in free agency gets to go as close close to home as possibly from New Jersey eventually and then he pulls the same crap with the with Brooklyn that he pulled with Boston and he was ready to pull the Cleveland if they didn't trade him. Ya Kyrie irving went from kind of cult hero to being pretty unlikable and teaming up with Kevin Durant Will do that for you. But Kevin Durant. That's not quite put duress. But they've more or less said even if the extent self into July and August when durant could theoretically be healthy enough to start training camp with us for the next season if it's the currencies they're not gonNA they're not GonNa push back then that's aren't GonNa make a deep playoff run. It'd be interesting to see how far he could carry a team like that. Who is playing pretty well? There are thirty thirty and thirty four of the hiatus with a pretty good shot to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference What else did I have? I had had salty salt well. Frank Gore Don Shula. We talked about Odell Beckham. Junior Charles Davis Sues Big fixture at Fox. For a long time. He was their number. They're number one color analyst when Fox got the BCS rights and ultimately got college football He was teamed up with Johnson but He's since been replaced by. Joel Klatt Was out at CBS. So Charles Davis is GONNA step into that number to roll at. Cbs and this. This might not be anything that excites anybody out there. Charles Davis I think the very definition of milk toast when it comes to. When it comes to calling off a ballgame nobody disliked. Nobody.

"Game the mobile spend James Winston looking on the bright side of life eighty supporting expanding the playoffs or we've got some participants for the horse idea that the NBA is floating well let's go with the participants mall rates ESPN in the NBA desperate to have programming and to put programming out there they've got there horse competition welcome horse on a horse you know what let's put that one in that let's put that one in the back pocket it come to that one come back to a horse on a horse I'm down with that just like our force old school basketball fans we remember horse actually didn't used to be a horse deep in it during halftime of CBS basketball games yup echo them yeah right yeah they they never come up yes so bring that back some old school feels but that we've got some participants according to sources Chris Paul a young and Zach Levine are three that are that are throwing their names out there I'll go with Chris Paul but I by the way I've I've Megan's Christopher my ten year old we had a horse battle in the hallway two nights ago in his many hoops that's over the door in the core of the closet in our server has played plays on this on this on this ram like four hours a day every day so he's got trick shots he's got off their ceiling shots he's got over the door off the side shots I mean he put me away I only got H. he had I admit I had a I had the whole thing you only got two each for him with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson the total submersion fifty six like it really was too is like he's doing little little three sixties and throwing it off the ceiling and catching it jamming it and I'm like I can't do that Kelly I'm not that the not only my hallway nobody was there to see it this is a float my boat C. P. three young and Levin and I wanna see creativity yeah what does he do that I'll probably watch the layer a lot of choices out there but but me thank you bye choices I'd probably take those choices over over that and I just I don't know I did just doesn't I guess a lot of guys are probably due to of a hoop I can't play a day that's a great excuse to like you get a big lake like Tim Hardaway shouldn't gonna Dixon got that bucket he would have the excuse of not getting it which was a great story by the way there we go to take Scott com haven't deliver you a bucket and put it together in a few extra pieces get it wrong yeah yoga in the extra pieces now okay you're good there said that photo researcher with Tim Hardaway senior yesterday if you missed that makes you go to KNBR dot com and check it out to according to Adrian water now ski NBA alumni former players are recent former players are rumored to take part in this so the names I think we'll continue to to trickle out there I don't like you know and it's not even because I like everybody else live sports is start watch something on television particularly interested in in watching it just you know understand conceptually what it is is that it's horse but it's something it's something and it's something different I don't know what what a horrible way back in the day would you guys play when you had to go to the three letter game would you play what would you mean every letter with you is like a shortened version of course yeah okay because there is a did this pagan cat and I used to I used to live pig and a simple plate cat I don't know what that says about you could spell disaster with somebody to see if you have say a Henderson we're going to have early because source for money you know what your practice is back in the day no warming up never do that but maybe so we played a game called numbers reach you from the same spot does somebody miss that so many numbers you got it if somebody got to twenty when they lose and we didn't play for a lot of money twenty Bucks or maybe a bit larger some like that but it was a like yeah they were never like big money games like golf where guys are going out there and DO wagering thousands of dollars out there playing golf and practice practice round there was really never any of that but yeah maybe twenty Bucks here twenty Bucks there something like that to make it make maybe make it a little more interesting but nothing that would get your get your polls run in you know real quick all right so you know the story that that that I thought was kind of funny is cagey hate school and Taylor yeah I know my god and I didn't re I wouldn't read into it maybe a you know I don't know if you guys know more about the story but I guess the late flip Saunders when he was coaching the T. wolves said the KGB that you know when he was all done plan that there would be some kind of front officer maybe ownership role of some kind he would have some role in the organization and then he retired and cagey believes that gun Taylor didn't honor that that this you know that statement that promise from flip Saunders and and so he hates man is there anything more to it than that I mean I just I know the I know the T. will shoot a retired is number a long ago and haven't done it that's an embarrassment yeah greatest player in franchise history not even close not even close so they should do that I got here we got I know this is off the the wheel am I kind of wanted to get to James Winston because that is the right side but I'm gonna go on go on it's like a joker's while when you get like two jokers you go off the border movie three jokers you got the board to go off the board here this is something that when I first looked at it I go well that's kind of odd but then it started making sense to me they're trying to come up in this is over at Stanford she knows but smart people over there coming up with the smart toilet so what the smart toilet does is it's gonna recognize your buttocks recognize your buttocks analyze the waste and they said there's a lot of markers with disease with the ways of the thank you Jose that he did they did not go to stay over by the way they're gonna be able to come up with something that would let you know if you're the right stuff now do the right stuff if maybe you should go to the doctor which is like okay the more I read it at that okay this this makes sense I don't know if I want to know on a daily basis home doing dude give more give more roughage you need to get more cell it's a spool sampler is "Must most to hit somebody. Somebody could hit tonight. Kursad or anything as part of the game in my book. Anything else? I gotta go continue with Mike. Fischetti of. Hell of a record coach pump. That couldn't have been better. If it was staged that was that was awesome. So Popovich walks up he joined the scrum. He gives coach Valona hug, and then my quips about the record that was set. Now, if you're wondering they actually do keep track of this stuff. Oh my gosh. Nerd alert. Are you serious? Is the last time a coach was a jacket in the first two minutes of a game was two thousand twelve the departed flip Saunders, but he obviously like to go. After facial at the time was coaching. Washington flip Saunders on January second two thousand twelve and according to Elias he got a jacket at one forty six. So the new record then would be Gregg Popovich at one zero three. I love. What are you serious? That person must have hit somebody. Nope. Just arguing sticks and stones may break your bones. Are you serious words clearly hurt the officials in the NBA? So yeah, that was fun. The nuggets as I say pick up a half game on the idol. Golden State Warriors. They are still in second in the Western Conference standings, the Houston Rockets have won four games in a row. Eight of their last ten most recently against the clippers on the second of back to back on Wednesday. So we're going to spend some time talking about the clippers who had been one of the league's hottest teams until they ran into this buzzsaw that is the rocket. But it was the first time they had played each other filleted October. I mean think about that first time these two teams at tipped off since the fall, which means they look completely different. So we're going to look at the clippers through the eyes of this game. But also as they prepare for postseason berth pretty impressive coaching job for Doc Rivers and a season, which was supposed to be about rebuilding and resetting..

Fischetti off Gregg Popovich would go pop becomes the first head coach jetted within the first two minutes of a game. Since flip Saunders of the wizards in twenty twelve and a game against the Celtics nuggets. Get the win. They are eleven and one second game of back to back this season. That's the best record in the NBA as the Spurs. Kevin Durant picked up a couple of technicals. He was elected third quarter. Got fifteen techs on the season one more and it's an automatic one game suspension. Boogie cousins there as well. But as for Tuesday coach Steve Kerr really didn't agree with the way it played out. I thought he deserved. The first technical. I didn't think he deserves the second one. I was very surprised. I watched the whole thing. I didn't think he deserves to be jetted. I think is one of the best officials in the game. And I've got no complaints Zaki knows what he's doing. He's. He's fantastic. Official. Just surprising. And I'd never really did. Get an explanation. I didn't get a chance to talk to him. But we we move on. And as for the quick trigger finger carrying on into the playoffs. I'm not concerned with that. The officials do a great job. It's really brutally difficult job in this league. I think we can be better terms, you keeping our poise myself included. You know, you go into each game you're excited, but you're gonna yell at the refs both teams are, but you've got to keep your poise throughout and we'll we'll have to do better job in the postseason things turn around. They're right there with the Lakers any team at talks about improving themselves through free agency. Which is a lot of the part of the game about trying to put a team together to win a championship. Certainly with the warriors in your in your division conference that that it's messes with the minds of the people that are currently on your roster. Are are you brush? Up on July. First speech. Are you getting ready for that? Well, being mindful of obviously what you've got cooking here is the succeed going into the gaming Houston. Given that much thought to be honest. I mean, obviously that's gonna come. But I think this is what we're doing now. And I think the way this thing plays all this team act out things alone. I we Bronx and power we run organization. I think that's the, you know, and then, you know, once that comes I think, then I'm hoping that all the dyes are considering not only look at you know, me as a codes. But also let you know as Aisan, and then they look at the players that they play with you know in. He's wanted to get guys we work together on one of the US eighteen years ago with me him and flip Saunders, and he's been your friend ever since. So I'm just really happy for him. So what did you think when when coach was front and center in conversation about coaching too hard is player Aaron Henry, and he was in the kid's face in? How he's in the his kids in amateur athlete, not a professional and coach and be as demonstrative, what did you think of the over coaching or coaching too hard conversation? I don't know if you can. There are times. Obviously, it's, you know, a confrontation turns into physical something or another. I don't think that was the case, you know, you know, time when he looks like he's talking to you that expressive phase. So it looks a lot worse than it is no Tom Izzo at all. And you know of all the coaches, you know, he's one of the days all the players going back, and he's doing it the right way. I can tell you that. But these reports have been updated since twenty two twenty game, Mark. Oh, no. You know what? Twenty home games twenty away at regardless they pack out their place ninety percent which is twentieth in the league. So why did they say like ninety percents? Right. Good. That sounds like a good number. All of these teams are probably real close together. The the Mavericks our number one with one hundred and three percent standing room. Gotta be crazy people packed up that much. And then as we mentioned earlier, the timber wolves are second to last was Seventy-seven percent and the pistons or a seventy six percent, I think I said that last show like they got those red seats to make it legal. "And you went crazy from from long range last night like until the answer to one of those questions is yes. And I think the best chance at it is three point shooting because he. Just he he's passing like he'll throw a couple of passes a game out of the pick and roll where you'll be like. Oh, wow. He's he's really made a jump. I'm going to write. I'm going to be the smart guy that like writes that Andrew Wiggins passing his really made incrementally. But you only notice if you're watching on league pass, and then you look at the numbers like no same same guy. And he's the kind of guy that gets GM fire because GM can talk themselves into this guy just has made time. But this has been the story of the league now for sixty years. Can you get an owner fire is that can we do that? I mean, the Glenn Taylor thing. And it's funny because if you talked to anybody in the league about Taylor like, wow. That guys disaster. There was like he's a nice guy. Great guy. It's like well that might be fine. But nobody has done a worse job over the last twenty years. I was hoping they would hire cagey is coach because the post game press conferences would have been amazing human thrown out of at least ten games. He would have just by sheer fear. Brought out something from towns Wiggins for at least two months that would have been amazing everything about it would have been awesome. But then I was watching last night. I was thinking like flip Saunders son coaching. This team is kinda cool. I'm into it. He's firm rooting for it. He's the first coach even more than Walton were. I'm just like that guy. It's j-. He's just too young. Like, I look I'm like he's a baby. Look he looks like a kid. It's like like did you like when you ever do you ever go? Visit holy crossover. Awhile been in college. Like, I went I went to I went to teat due to a classic mile mater this fall, and like you walk around a college campus. Did I look like this when I was nineteen. This is a twelve year old, right? Like, I anyway, SPO is like that too. And he took over the Miami job outback. But I think it's it's just it's part of the legacy of the NBA that they're these tantalizing guys that effort is the problem, and Jeff green was one of the most frustrating players have ever rooted for when he passed through the Celtics for couple years because they're games when you know, he Tommy would compare them to James worthy. And it was accurate. It was like this guy looks like James worthy. Then there are other games where you didn't realize he was out there for a quarter and a half. And it's just kind of funny that this is a recurring theme as as you go along. But I I look Minnesota. Now you look at that team. They had yesterday in that game. And they had these two young stars. That can go toe-to-toe anybody. But going back to the okay see argument twenty one. George has been out of his mind this season. I mean, I I really think there's a case for him to be the second best forward in the league and just for how he's played the season. And it's been really strange to watch that team kind of shift toward him as the season went along. Because Westbrook is as been documented all over the place is just a just a shooting disaster. I don't remember anybody thirty and under who just lost the ability efficient as a score like you're not allowed to point it anymore. It's to mean, it's to mean. As players not only came over to swallow up their head coach in bear, hugs. But they were jumping around and congratulating him. And and part of that is the emotion of surviving. Those those last couple Russell Westbrook shots that that were off the money. And so for the wolves they hang on to win by two. But there was so much energy there. And maybe this signals. A fresh start. It's been a really messy first half of the season for the wolves. They're still below five hundred not only do they go through all of that Jimmy Butler drama in the training camp. Only then to start the season with him unhappy finally trade him to the Philadelphia seventy Sixers where by the way, there's already been friction there. Then it seems like the locker room has adjusted and maybe it's going to put together a bit of a winning streak and a buyer flip. Saunders flip Saunders. Sorry, Thom Fidel, and they bring in the son of flip Saunders as their interim head coach they annoy him interim head coach he's thirty two years old. This was his first time coaching the team and just the way that they responded to him if not going to be that exciting every single night, nothing is certainly most of our professional lives. Whatever we do whether it's professional athletes, whether it's professional radio host, whether it's professional Plummer, whatever it is. Most of our lives are spent. On the mundane and the routine not the exciting and the out of the ordinary, and so this was a reason to smile for the timber wolves. And I hope they continue to bring the energy. But man think about the transition and the turnover for them is just been a lot of turmoil since the beginning, and maybe they'll stabilize now the locker room has been through so much already positive note there still just outside the top eight in the Western Conference because everybody in the Western Conference pretty much is jumbled up. And so even though the wolves are below five hundred they're only three actually two games back of the Lakers who are in that eight spot and they're tied with the jazz and the kings in terms of record and back those three.

"Coaching debut. This is after hours with Amy Lawrence Brady impressive the way the Timberwolves played for the son of flip Saunders who is essentially one of the architects of the Minnesota Timberwolves died in two thousand fifteen after a bout with cancer. And now here is his son as the interim head coach who learned from the very best got thrown right into the fire against the Oklahoma City. Thunder a game that was very close until the end as you here with Alan Horton on the Timberwolves radio network. And if you didn't see it it's worth watching the wild celebration on the sidelines. "Tickets. They need to sell not just tickets, but they need to get fans excited about the team merchandise, obviously, TV contracts. Do you think that the timing of this in them pointing flip Saunders son as interim head coach is kind of way for them to maybe boost season tickets sales because this is the time of year where teams asks current season ticket holders to renew for next season. Some fans who were maybe I don't know disenchanted by what was happening this year with this drama. They trade Jimmy Butler. Maybe this is like, hey, look, we're bringing in flip Saunders, son. You know, we have a new a new thing. Going new focus. Do you think the timing? And who it was it took over made a difference kind of when it comes through ticket sales in that regard. I think it's more of the line lines of they gotta just trust loyal fan base. What else can you say? What else can you promote like seriously like you can promote cat, and that's all you got Rabi. Wiggins what else can you do growth. Like, you gotta just hope for the best. I we do we've heard rumors that Fred Hoiberg might be the man to take over as head coach at some point. Probably not now since they did a point Ryan Saunders. Interim coach so maybe in the off season. Maybe before that who knows. Does Fred Hoiberg? The guy that Minnesota should be targeting. You know, I don't know. It's such a it's a thin line. Isn't it? It's funny that he followed. Tom timid. Oh in Chicago. He could follow Tom typical in Minnesota. But win leak does say like, maybe a void this. If you're learning from experience. To nose, which would you talk to typical though after that after all this which is like what to like in Minnesota. Oh, you mean from like a experience -ffective coach. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. I mean, slowly, I mean, it's it's something to think about. Yeah. You'd want to hear his side. You'd wanna hear like how he was treated. Yeah. Well, he got the president job. Also. So he was probably treated decent. I would say, but I think that makes me like the timing is weird to me because he was the president, right? Like if you trusted him to make basketball decisions not just on the court, but off the court why not see his project through like he traded Boettger. Let's see if it works, right? Like, he didn't even get a chance to what twelve fifteen games with this team. I don't know. Yeah. It's kind of just kind of a grey areas in it. I mean, they're nineteen and twenty one it's not like selling the phone off a cliff in contention five and five in their west ten like they had a two game winning. There was a reason we don't know about like, there was a hidden reason. Like, I mean, maybe it was handled the trade you could be right in that regard. Maybe because they what did they really get? Maybe it'd be honor. And they off yet much for him. Did they well maybe the owner in the front office did want the four I Trump picks? We don't know that. But the problem is when you appoint somebody to be the head coach and also in charge of personnel decisions. You're going to run into a situation where he's looking out for himself more than the franchise, right? Yeah. When you don't have to different people. He was thinking and jobs in the fringes. Maybe that's why people got that. Maybe it got the wrong impression. Like oh. You're thinking about yourself rather than the whole team sake. Yeah. You were thinking cited. Yeah. Yeah. And what he really are those guys you got for the trade really get a boost team into a champion. I will say though, the time that they turn down the four draft picks from Houston. We were talking about how because Houston was terrible at that time there. One of the worst teams in the league. Now, they will get again, you know, not that you can project three four five six years down the road. Not that what they're doing. Now means a difference. But it just it is kind of interesting to kind of look back on it..
