"The word go. On the shame. Shame. It's a Lincoln top hat hosted by Ben Kissel. Boom. We can't get fooled again. Hey, what's up everyone? How you doing? This has been Kissel with you. You might also hear Travis MorningStar. Yes. I'm on a new medication colloquially known as the stage fright drug. So I might fuck around and do some operational comedy for my God. Well, please get off the medication. All right. Everyone will thank you so much for joining today. We have a bunch of stuff to get to the first thing I want to say recommend a documentary series. This is called Flint town, Flint town, it is really a powerful documentary series. It focuses on law enforcement in Flint, Michigan, and it shows sort of both sides of what law enforcement deals with. So you'll be watching the documentary and you'll say I sympathize with some of the struggles there's only ninety eight officers for the entire town of Flint extremely difficult to navigate crime is rampant and it is a dangerous job. So you do sympathize with the officers when it comes to them putting themselves in harm's way. And I understand it's extremely brutal. It's. Brutal hours. It's a horrible job in many ways. You don't even get that much cash for it. So I have empathy and sympathy for the officers when it comes to them putting their lives on the line. But then you also kind of see the flip side of that. After a new sheriff comes to town. I'm not going to ruin this. Because apparently on side stories, we talked about Lorraine a- the lorraina documentary, and some people said you spoil debt, and I'm like, it's a twenty six year old Lorena Bobbitt story. It literally is twenty six years old. I don't know. Like, I didn't we didn't spoil it. Everyone knows this story. It is it's old enough. It's five years. It can be it has been drinking for five years twenty six years old anyway, don't wanna ruin it. But at one point there's a sheriff that takes over a new sheriff in town, although he's actually part of the old guard and Flint again becomes much more aggressive sort of broken windows would Juliani did here in New York City. So then you start seeing a lot of unwarranted traffic stops, basically throw the book at him, whatever. And if you ever read the book to as day or if you've ever. Just looked at the statutes in this country. Everything is a legal. I Jay walked at least three times today. God knows what else I've done a legal today. Pine is probably illegal often is a legal illegal in some way, in some way. I'm sure though puffins. No being I am not illegal. I've never done anything wrong on the cutest little dog..

For just such an occasion. No, No. I like, I like Elias. I'd like to see him in the mix every time. He it's sort of not not to the extent of some guys. But it does feel like there's a little stop start with them. You know, like sometimes he's just the Qatar guy. And then once in a while he's getting thrown into a match where? You're like, oh, they're like they're putting them in with some guys. You know? Yeah. And they destroyed one of his guitar. It was either stark eight or of raw listen, man, probably has racks and racks, you know, but they haven't destroyed at least that I've seen he's been working. Fender electric acoustic. Okay. Yeah. You can have a breaking and entering actively happening at your place, and you call the police, and they'll come twenty three hours later because they're working they're working calls in order of importance. We're not taking chances. Okay. All right. It's still there. Zap dick you're in a heap. Trouble and subject, that's a good band band. And we're not even really mentioning the fact that we're not sure if his nipple rings Brown strums nipple rings, any has them if you're new to the show, we talk a lot about this kind of stuff. They could be bullets, and he may have used them. Can you imagine in a movie? Oh my God. You're like do. I have the one WWE ring left. To make my day. "Recommendation, right Flint town about the. Wonderful city of Flint, Michigan and law enforcement in that city. I think the fourteen year old should have had a little peek at that to see what he might have encountered. Yeah. The town of Flint has gone through so many times I haven't heard about this documentary, but I'll have to check that out. There's been so many times in waves in history that they've been hit hard with things in the water crisis. As of last year was just the latest for those folks, here's dis nuggets. Yes, I'm cruising through all ages. Now listening to the show and got blasted out on iheartradio. Oh, cool. Walk by this guy. Gives them the smile. I'm like, oh, you're listening to the news Jogi. And we're just both kind of chuckled. Thought it was pretty funny. A kiss at that moment. Yeah. You make out immediately. After the two more real quick. Here's Florida living it up junkies. Right. Florida living here. Yeah. They do have like in ROTC you're saying for. Police it's called the explorer's program. They have it pretty much everywhere. Yeah. It's like all the kids that probably. Yeah. Get picked on or whatever and school and are gonna hope they find the the guys picking on him in ten years and really screw them over. But it's called the explorer's program. But y'all have a good day. Keep up the killer work. And. Yep. Thank you. I don't know if that's what all cops intentions are. Or even a slightest bit of them. But maybe some this kid is fourteen though. And if the story that everybody's talking about with the fourteen year old impersonating the police officer can end in a happy way. That's the ultimate goal. I think here's Richard. What.

"This is Jack talk. I wanna listen, I want to be better. I want to be the best. I can be welcome to our team. Jack talk. As you get older, you get to be seventy eight years old. Here's what I find here grows in places that it hadn't been before. Welcome to hashtag Jack talk. Now time for everybody's favorite segment of the week here on a tacky state the Harbaugh's podcast, Jack talk by the way Jack. We should just mention that the Borg McEnroe match. You got to talking about nine hundred eighty and Borg one and the numbers on that one are insane. It's one of those things where you look back and you almost don't remember, but it was one six, seven, five, six, three, six, seven and a tiebreaker was eighteen sixteen and then it was eight, six in the last of the of the sets. That's what you're talking about. Hello, the match last I don't. I didn't get that part. I just grabbed the numbers and they're just you to the first one one, six like McEnroe's gonna win this thing going away. And then boy comes back seven, five, six, three McEnroe takes the fourth sets seven six sixteen or eighteen sixteen tiebreaker. That's a lot of tennis and then eight, six. We watched every stroke of that great match. I promise you that was a that is a famous one. That's actually I think it was HBO did a documentary or a docu drama on, I think is what they would call it on on that match. All right. So welcome back to town. You were down in Georgia last week OB at a great trip down to see the family. You watch football on TV and spend some time around the basketball program down at Georgia as well. I want to mention I spoke last Thursday up in Flint that you've club of greater Flint, and we're big in Flint play that we're big and Flint. I always thought that my show in the mornings was big and Flint because Sam is from Flint, but they love you. They love they love Jim, but people always come back to me and tell me with stories that you tell they love the story. So you're big in Flint. So we want to give shadow to our friends up in Flint town up there. And obviously we just came off home opening weekend and there's something special about the home opener, whether it's the first game of the year, the second game of the year, but it's family reunions. You the same tailgating people maybe seven times a year. Tailgates. You. See the same people to stands, maybe seven times a year at games, but you've seen him grow up in generations of passive, but you're all still together and it's family reunion time and towns like like the rest of us. You had some reunions going on as well. Forty, six, forty, seven years in coachee. We mentioned before the game, get a little fuzzy and winning and losing and all that gets a little bit fuzzy. But the thing that never you never forget your players, the players. I mean, you can remember recruiting them. We had a youngster, John offer doll at western Michigan university recruited him in nineteen eighty one as a true freshman out of Wisconsin. He came and play started force for four years. Every game never missed. A game came majoring in in pre med and Jameson son. Jamison is on the Michigan roster. So we had the western Michigan experience that we shared together and son here at the. -versity of Michigan, John and his wife, Lynn, and Jameson came over for breakfast. We had a chance to go down into our basement and one of my all time favors Jon offer dog, we had his picture down the basement. We had a chance to talk some stories. He was recruited out of Wisconsin had no other offers. Not one other school offered him any kind of a scholarship whatsoever. Greg Maddison was recruiting them the Wisconsin area and and brought him over to visit with his dad. They came in a truck and we offered him a partial scholarship, half scholarship truck broke down on Sunday, and he had to stay his stay an extra day. So we had a chance to recruit him. Came all American third team all American at western Michigan. Second round draft choice by the Miami Dolphins, a pro bowler for five of the seven years. He played in the NFL you as a pro bowler, highly highly successful in the in the business world..

"Last days of filming that i was just like closing my eyes behind the lens because i just didn't wanna look at it anymore when you talk about the connection you have these subjects it's the same thing happened with flint town telling from the point of view of the police so did you have relationships with these cops that were sort of like sorry and so two of the characters from flint town are coming to new york next week and i'm really excited for them to come and see new york neither of them ever have and we just went back you know a week ago and brought our kid and yeah i mean they're they're strong relationships worried about you a civilian riding along no i mean they we they were exceptional with us and i think a lot of we really are grateful and oh them a lot for being as honest and kind of open about the work that they do what they think about the work that they do how it works you know they were they were really honest which i think really what we wanted we wanted into this wasn't a department that was having some type of corruption scandal or we didn't go into do some expose that being said it's still police work it's very much under scrutiny in america and i think what we really wanted to do was look at what is going on in this in this context what is who is a police officer what are they thinking about what is it like and like you know what's going on in this topic in this country and understand it from where they are and so they were really honest and open with us which is really what we're looking for.

"Yeah there's only six episodes so what this is about is flint michigan where it begins i guess it starts in twenty sixteen where in case people aren't familiar with this or don't remember there was a major thing that happened in flint where i guess they were trying to save some money and so they opened up a dam that was going to allow them new drinking water but it turned out they turned off the old source and open up this damn and it it turns out that the water was polluted and they didn't realize it i don't know what was native it was led or something really bad is bad and i believe this is still going on there but absolutely is yeah so so this is happening but at the same time so you've got the water crisis then they're signing in new mayor the mayor is getting rid of the police chief and bring in a new police chief this all happens in like the first episode and what it does is it tells the story of flint michigan from the perspective for the most part of the police force that's there and i believe that flint has like it is the might be the most dangerous city in america it might might be second most violent crime yeah second or third or it's it's but it's bad and and so it's told from the story of the police department and then the officers that are there but what's fascinating about it is i mean it's filmed really really well and the narrative is really unfolding in a very very interesting way and i just i just really been enjoying this show so another another vote for for flint town that's a really good.

"Um the see how do i say this i didn't see i haven't seen the whole series i was concerned that the audience would be distracted by the love story between frost dan um yeah bridget when there's so much more at stake in the story i don't only was nice i enjoyed it to some degree but there are so many statistics about flint that i felt that i wish have been explored like in the beginning there was an officer who said how immediate it was in the reality is it it was true that um flint was almost idyllic here up until the late seventies early '80s and suddenly by the early eighties it was on the front of the new york times in washington post four violent crime and four you know you know the escalating crack cocaine epidemic the loss of the uh the factories and then finally the uh the murder rate which definitely if you dealing with the flint police mean flint had one of the highest murder rates in the country four years you know um i actually lost by own brother to the streets of flint michigan so um you know i i enjoy the series but one thing that there is a connection between the water crisis and the police department is something that i had to go back to finally a few times to see and that is that you have a city that was already like to gentleman said had one of the highest per median income to being you know pretty much impoverish now you have housing values that have gone from say one hundred thousand dollars to twenty thousand dollars so what you see is this escalating poverty that the officers now have to deal with in terms of the psychology of the city mean like you talked about being in that hotel how many hotels have closed in flint michigan i think there are none opened in flint michigan right now.

"Russia you know in our previous film exhibit and that's what made her so magnetic right in so i think what that water crisis in the background plays out in these relationships that these guys have with each other at the same time these guys can't even drink water at the department at the station ride there signs up there you can't use the water faucet it's just like you know when you live in an environment like that it takes a psychological toll on you you know in so to think about you know longterm trauma effects and that kind of thing i mean the should israel and so to see you know that just kind of play out uh you know we are fairly conscious in like trying to keep it there in the frame you know these guys have to go pick up water you know once a week in pick up all these bottles put of in their trunk taken to their house you know it's it's it's crazy um so you know at the same time we're tana police story so we didn't focus on the politics per se you know and i i will say you know one of the things that we tried to do that in one of the ways that we saw that it was relevant was that you know we weren't trying to do a story about the water but it did play into how the community feels in terms of systems that they can trust and so you know the police or a system and and when you watch the community feel distrustful of the police it's in part because other systems that are there and are supposed to work don't so when you have water that's poison when you're schools are shutting down when the factories that were there abandoned new those are all systems that you know you should be able to rely on you and you can't and so of course that very much played into the psychology between community and police relationships and that was the thing that we felt like was important to kind of keep their so that people could understand that i wanna ask you about the the look of the film because you know wh when i think about police shows on tv you may be the.
