"Going to be great. Yeah there is an interview. I read with reed. Hastings like the ceo of net flex neuralgia looking at. They're looking at getting into f one because of that show and that's that's really interesting. So he the way. He said it was interesting. He said showed us really well. We might but he could. His line was if we could buy the whole tour. Yeah right and so i. I think that's the next thing. In streaming sports is a streaming giant goes along buys a league of some sort rights as we own this league and then we produce tons of content around incorporate ramming out of it so much just the events. It's all the documentaries all the online stop all the social media the own all of it and that's really kind of kind of genius and i think that's what a lot i bet. There's a lot of leagues looking at that. And that's something that really curling should look at. Is what sidecar programming can. we create. that can bring in people who aren't curling fans. Because i know a lot of people who have never watched a race before Who aren't your typical racing motor. Sports demographic who watch that show on net flicks. Yeah and it's in a lot of those people who i never thought would have ever watched a motorsport event ever now. Tell me hey. Did you see the f one race Yesterday morning and i'm like what you're you're you're getting you're getting up in the morning to watch f one now. It's it's really crazy in like that's that's gonna be kind of the way that at leagues in sports that aren't big that don't have major followings in the us that's going to be the way that they're going to be able to build as you've you get this sidecar programming that really shows you the personalities of the people involved in the sport you get buy in from people who wouldn't necessarily like your sport in That gets them to to then watch you know the the league Were in this case the race..

"Those three interior guys, if all they do is make at least make them bounce the ball, then it allows our fast guys to run downhill get to the line of scrimmage. You may all know durma James can go from 12 to two like that. But you have to give that bounce so he can get that clearly and to get there. So I think a big game plan for this week is gonna be forcing them to bounce the run to the outside. All right, so again on this play, we're gonna see they're gonna run the ball this way. There's just a wall here that these defensive linemen create that forces the balance that allow these backers and corners to come and make a play on. It allows our athletes to get to the ball instead of depending on what we've come now to find is one of our weaker points of our interior defensive line. So as you watch, I'll take it back to the beginning again. The ball's gonna get bounced to the outside, giving the safeties, giving the outside backers time to get to the point and be able to still make the play for a loss. Force that balance let those guys come up because a lot of the times are not being blocked. I mean who's blocking these guys on the outside? They're wide receivers. They'll do their best to hold on, but they're not gonna be able to hold on those blocks for long. So I think the key to this game is our defensive lineman just not allowing big holes, clogged that stuff up, make them bounce the ball outside. And take our chances with our athletes in space. Okay, last play will look at here in prep. This is where Lamar can really beat you. Everyone wants to run man run man run man. One of the difficulties in man is what we're going to see here. It vacates complete and total zones. So this receiver is going to come run across the field. All these guys, you have one, two, three, all over here. They're all running routes up in here, whatever they're doing. And it allows this whole half of the field is wide open without a defender. So if Lamar Jackson can just break the pocket, if we're in man and they run some kind of over route and they have vacated that whole space. That is one of the reasons why man is really hard to run against these mobile quarterbacks, but that's a catch 22, because that's what you want to do. You want to force him to sit in the pocket, deliver perfect balls and let us get pressure in his face. So just this is just me being like, hey guys, this is maybe why we don't run man on every single play. We're gonna see it a lot, but maybe there's times where we switch it up to try to catch him. The other thing that really hurts on this play, is their pass rush is really, really bad. I don't know if somebody messed up and gave up a zone, but usually in a pass rush, these guys all have their own lane. So he's gonna attack this outside shoulder. This guy will attack inside shoulder on this left side. He'll attack inside on the right and hill attack outside on the right. So you have these lanes that you're that you have a little bit of freedom, throw some spin moves, put on a pass rush move. But for the most part, you need to stay in these pass rush lines. What happens is this defensive end does what I coach every single defensive end not to do. He runs up straight past the court of act trying to go on a bull rush. This guy makes some kind of a stunt into the left side of the line..

"Even if you have a good first series, you have to come at him with something different in the second one to keep him on his toes because it all runs through Lamar Jackson. But I want to look at a couple of plays here and look at there's not one way to beat him. You can't just run man to man against them. I'll show you one play here that one of the downsides of running man and how he's able to beat that up. And I'll also share what I think the key to stopping the running game is for us as a defense. And something to the lions did really, really well. Before we get to that, one of my hopes, especially just as a curveball, do it for a series, do it for a couple of plays. Is the more I've thought about it since our Tuesday episode. I love the idea of Joey Bosa down inside. I love the idea, this play here that I have lined up. The lions run a three man front as well. They have these three down linemen, then they have their two outside linebackers. So to me, I love the idea of switching it up and letting facilities be out here on the outside, letting both that come down here into the three technique, whatever you want to call it two technique. Along with lindvall and Hillary, that is a big, solid athletic, strong front, right? I think that Christian Covington third down lineman becomes an issue here and there. Obviously, Hillary's not the best in the world, but you could rotate those guys outcoming tenant Hillary. Keep them fresh and bring Joey down in the box and let him just disrupt things. That keep an eye on it, see if it happens. That's what I would do as a coach to try to mix things up and give them a little bit different look. But as we watched through this first play, to me, stopping this run is forcing the plays that are supposed to be inside runs outside. You whatever they want to do, you want to make them do the opposite. So you want to clog up the inside and make these running backs bounce outside because our team we have a very fast defense, right? When you have three down linemen and 8 athlete athletes with four linebackers and four defensive backs sometimes 5 defensive backs, you're fast. You're running around, get to the outside, that's fine. We'll come run you down. If that's the game plan. All right, so we're going to look here at this first play that I want to look at. I think it perfectly shows the idea of they're trying to run these inside runs. We need to make them bounce outside. You can go ahead and go to the clip now. I think right here you're going to see they're going to do their best to hand this ball off. He wants to cut up inside of these blocks. They force him to bounce outside and that's where our pressure can come. You see Hollywood Brown out here. He has no desire to block anybody out on the edge. So you have safety here. This is at two man show that we're very comfortable with seeing. And this only works if we can make it bounce. If we can create some kind of a wall in here, forced them to bounce outside and let our fast guys go down in rally to the ball. That's when we can be effective against the run. If we're going to let them just gash us up the middle, all game long, just like we saw with the browns. It gets really, really hard..

"Is a crazy. I think it's just like such a weird offense. It's just when I coach high school, we went into the flexbone offense. It's basically what navy runs. You naughty. But I didn't even think that. How did I miss that opportunity? Good job well, Doc. It's such a different offense than what you see every week 'cause it's like what people quote unquote called a triple option where the quarterback can hand it off, keep it or pitch it. And it's just such a weird offense that you don't see it every week. You get used to seeing spread teams. You get used to seeing, even if you see the browns, you see those heavy running teams. But the ravens are so different than what you see week to week that it's hard to train your eyes and change what you do. So it is a weird task to take on. And I think that's why in 2018, when we saw them in a regular season, they took it to us a little bit, but then we saw them again three weeks later, and we had had a chance to get used to it, train your eyes on what you're looking at and what you're trying to do. And then we had a lot more success the second time around. Now hopefully we don't have that we don't need that and we can just play well this week. But it does pose a difficult question, right? I looked through a lot. There was a lot of responses, so thank you guys for reaching replying to my tweet. But most of it was what are we going to do on defense? We have we've proven that we don't have a great run rush defense. And this team does it better than most people in the NFL. Unfortunately, we got back to back great rushing teams here early in the season. So what do you do? I wanted to look at the Lions tape because the Lions were the most successful at keeping them to at least amount of points. If you guys remember correctly, they won this game on adjusted Tucker NFL record breaking last second field goal. So this was definitely a close game and the lions did a lot of good things to contain Lamar Jackson. And I think that's good to know as well. Going into this game, we're looking to contain Lamar. He's going to get he's going to make some place. There's no way around it. He's the guy that everything on this offense runs through. He's going to have some place. Don't start ripping your hair out in the first half when he starts making a couple plays. It's okay. We have to settle down. We have to get used to seeing a new offense that's different than what we see week to week. So there's a couple of options, right? One of the tweets, one of the response I kept getting was do we go cover zero and put everyone in the box, but like you guys know Lamar's got an arm, like he's developed an ability to throw the 440 yards against the colts. He will beat you. You can't just do that. You can't have one answer to beat Lamar. You have to continually switch things up, change it serious to series and keep him guessing. Once he gets comfortable, and once he starts knowing the read that he's looking at on his read options, he can become extremely dangerous. Once he knows, when he drops back, what kind of pressures you're bringing, and he knows how to exit and step out. He gets really dangerous. It almost becomes a serious..

"And the thing is that I don't think any of us really realize we probably haven't even seen his ceiling yet. Yeah. And it's going to be really truly a blessing to it to sit back and watch what his career is going to be like over the next ten, 15 years. Absolutely. Do you want to add anything to that, Donny? Yeah, it really just the kind of way everything happened. Like he was like this underrated prospect after being a top ranked draft pick like a couple years before, and then he gets hurt. Ends up falling to us. Just into our laps because everybody else had other projections on him. And then to see everything that he's become and hear the stories about him as a kid, wanting to be a charger, then we've been his favorite team his whole life. And you come to here and his teammates talk about how he is around the locker room and the calm presence that he has and how he's just got this aura about him that you know he's like something special. And to be able to watch all that come to fruition is it's really nice to watch. Yeah, and he's bringing new fans and you know this is a good segue. New fans, they need jerseys. So what you guys did for us, which is fantastic is you put together a PDF of like, okay, what Jersey do you want? 'cause when I got the new jerseys came out, I was like, okay, I have no idea which one is which with the quality is what it is. So what was your guys thought process on coming up with a document that people could be like, okay, that's the Jersey I want. It's I'm not guessing. There's no guesswork here. Again, I'm going to be dating myself, but I don't know if you can remember back to when you had a choice of buying a Jersey you either bought the authentic or you bought what was.

"Yeah. So the clock starts with your ass. When I met Justin Herbert, man, that dude as big as the goals to just keep it rolling. I'm in hike because we have a lot of things to be excited about. All right guys, we are back with another bolt insight and we were super pumped to have Brian and Donnie. What is going on guys? Hey, how's it going? We're honored to be here. Not so much. How are you guys doing? Pump to have you guys. And we'll get to why specifically we brought you on in a few minutes. But we want to before we do anything, we always want to find out, how did you guys become charger fans? So we'll start with you Brian. How'd you become a charger fan? Well, it's kind of an interesting story. I'm going to date myself here, but when I was a kid, I can remember watching AFL games on TV and I was just got addicted because it was fantastic action. It was full blown offense and you know, they got into shooting matches like we saw yesterday and it was just very entertaining football. I didn't really develop a favorite team at that time, but Lance haworth was my favorite athlete because when I played football, I was receiver and always said great hands and decent speed like that. Awesome. So he always stuck in my mind. And for most of my adult life, I got involved in hockey and for about a couple decades I was working with a major junior team in Ontario. So my winners and winners were all full. And when that came to an end in 2017, spring in 2017, I needed a new way to pass the false and winners. So I read I came across the fact that the charges were moving back to Los Angeles. And, you know, that that was huge to me because my favorite baseball team for all my life has been the angels. And I thought, okay, okay, I could have my two favorite pro sports teams in the same city. So I'm kind of, I guess you could call me a Brian come legally. So this is my 5th year of being a die hard fan, but it's as if I had been around forever..

"One more year, so they're not going to rush him back to just sit on the bench and backup storm Norton. If he's able to go, he's going to go. If he's not, they'll put him on ice for next year. So I think we just in our minds, we should prepare for no blog of the season. I think that'd be easier for everyone. And if he shows up and he gets excited, we'll log a forum. That's great. Right. There you go. I like it. Shamelessly positive Kevin. I like it. Yes. All right, well as everybody knows our next opponent is a formidable one. It's the Baltimore Ravens. They started off the season playing against the Raiders and shockingly lost. Let's see Lamar Jackson 235 yards, one touchdown. But he was rushing 86. So he's the thing. Here's the thing when you go on, we're going to go through all these. I think the thing that's important to understand with Baltimore and they're running attack. They lost two guys in their backfield before they started. Before the season started. So the leading Russia on this team is Lamar Jackson. By a lot. By a lot. He is not even I think there was one game where he wasn't the leading Russia. And it was latavius Murray had 59 yards and he had 28 and that's when they were blown out to Denver Broncos. Every other week he's been the leading Russia. Wow. So this team is the Lamar Jackson show. It is. So I know that's what coach is going to be looking at. So, you know, going through some of these, they beat they lost to the Raiders week one, week two. They barely barely beat the chiefs 36 35. The third week, which was kind of crazy to me very close game with the Detroit Lions. They won 1917 and the Lions haven't been putting up a lot of numbers. So that's an odd one. Maybe that's an outlier. Then they beat up on the Broncos 23 7. And then they came back fourth quarter and beat the Indianapolis Colts 31 25. So this hasn't been the most dominant team. They just have one guy that is going off. That is basically what this team is in my opinion. Well, which is also interesting, anybody that has seen the injury report for the Baltimore Ravens saw that Lamar Jackson didn't practice due to an illness. So whatever that illness might be, could put a damper on a whole Lamar Jackson and montezuma's revenge..

"I think that practice squad signs are the practice squad signings are just an indication of the rest of the roster, right? I think when we signed Nate hall to the practice court, everyone was scared because like, what does that mean about drew? Is June tranquil injuries really bad? Is he going to be out a long time? And then when you sign a tackle, a day after we all find out about Brian bloggers second surgery, this season. That's like hey, I don't know if we're gonna get blogged back this year. So I think it's the individual themselves. There's a reason they're a practice squad player. There's a reason they were a free agent. I think I'm excited. I read some of the stuff too, kids, like it's crazy the way this guy was being touted out of high school. He was like a four star guy and he went to Stanford played there all four years. But the guy's got talent, obviously, but there were something that all 32 teams saw to the point where no one drafted him. So now that's not to say he can't make a big career, but I think the practice squad signings, I think for us as a fan base, kind of gives us a glimpse into what our coaches and the GM is worried about on our current roster. So the dropping of Nate hall, I think leans to drew if he is hurt being a short term thing. And the signing of a tackle in a D lineman is maybe Justin Jones is more banged up than we thought. And blogging I don't know if we're gonna see him back. Absolutely. I think you hit it right on the head there. Because looking over at the entry report as it stands right now, we've got necessarily who was limited on Wednesday, but didn't practice on Thursday with a hip injury. Justin Jackson has been getting limited snaps in Wednesday and Thursday. Tranquil has not practiced Wednesday or Thursday and neither has Mike Williams. Not practice Wednesday or Thursday. So that was surprising. I didn't expect to see Mike two days in a row not participating. Hopefully he gets a practicing today. I don't recall where I read it. I want to say it was either a Reddit, comment or a Twitter comment, but somebody made mention that Mike Williams got hurt during the game went out for a bit, but then came back in and made a touchdown or something like that. So I have a feeling, at least with Mike Williams that this is just. It's a racing. Don't stress it, don't worry about it. Because the guy has just been playing out of his mind this season. Drew tranquil, though, that's the one that we don't know what his injury is. So it's hard to tell, is this rest or is this legit like he's not practicing because he's heard? Yeah, I think juice hurt. I think he's. If I had to bet, I'd say he's not gonna play Sunday. Even Craig posted on his responded to retweeted one of drew's tweets on Monday about he posted like this inspirational quote of scripture about hey, it's okay, when you're tested, you'll get.

"Really? Gone up. And it has the effect of it. Yes, it does. Yeah, because people want to buy it more. People want to buy the charger stock, so you can sell it for more. So now it's just like since we bought it, it's gone up like 50 cents, 75 cents. That's a lot. So we're just going to write this to the Super Bowl. We're just going to I'm loving this so much reinvesting by more stocks. Yeah. If you guys want to come join us, you know, I'm having fun so far. This has been really good. So and it's also I'm looking at we started doing this. We haven't lost yet. So symbol, thank you. Yes, thank you. I don't know. I'm putting two and two together, but we'll see what happens. I love it. Go check it out, folks symbol dot com. All right, folks, well, apparently there have been a few roster moves and I don't know how much we need to read into some of these roster moves. But apparently, we've signed tackle foster sorel. I don't know if I'm saying that right. Sorel and defensive lineman Andrew Brown to our practice squad and released linebacker Nate hall from our practice squad. Now Nate hall, we had him in practice for the pre games, right? I think he got one of the I want to say he got one of the interceptions of one of the preseason games. Yeah, I don't remember specifically on 8th hall, but I did. I did go and look at this. Oh, I'm thinking come on hall. Yeah, I don't know. It was two halls. We just signed Nate hall earlier this week to our practice board. It was on and then off. Yeah..

"Right, for those that don't know we're talking about the FedEx air player of the week and the percentages were between Tom Brady Justin Herbert and Josh Allen, Josh Allen, pulled up the rear with 10% of the votes. Tom Brady came in just this week a little bit ahead of Josh with 12, and Justin Herbert. Had 78% landslide. Of the votes. Oh my God, dude. For the air player of the week. And I don't care how silly it is. I take a lot of pride that our fan base shows up and wins this thing every single week. Well, it's a point of contention now because of the constant chatter of chargers not having fans. And that this proves that it is not the case. I mean, some people, you'll get a few people that'll be like, well, I think Justin played a better game. And I'm gonna be non biased about this and I'm gonna vote for Justin Herbert. But really, this is more about taking the time to vote for who they are. On their phone for an hour. Yeah. I guarantee you people are doing that. I've never voted for one of these if a charger is not involved. You know, like the fans are the ones going on here voting for your guy. It's like right. So it's clear that the charger fan base is just either much bigger or a lot more dedicated to supporting their players than either way. It's a win win, and it's a win win. Yeah. And it's just we get asked the ws and you take care of it on the field. We will take care of it on the Internet. Right. As we've talked about before, there's not a lot that we can do to help win games, but we can do a lot to let these players know that we appreciate them and love them. And Justin Herbert, we appreciate and love you. We do..

"And I just think that, you know, it kindness and lifting people up and respecting people. You don't know, I just think that that's such a big part of our thing here is listening to people and learning about people because I think what you'll discover is that we have so much more in common than not, and I think that for someone like me, it's just incumbent upon you to set the example every single day so that people that were talked about in those emails that they don't need to feel that way, they shouldn't feel that way. And it's hopefully all of us can learn from this, that it's about bringing people together for me so that people can become the people that they dream about. And I think that for me, leading this football team and being someone hopefully, we can be a light for those people in those emails. That's not everybody that not everybody's like that, that there's far more people that will love you than the opposite, and hopefully this will be a chance for everybody to come together instead of go apart. God. Bless. Off the cuff, man, this is like a real card and go reading glasses on and read my prepared state. You know he knew that this question was coming. So he had time to think about it, but it was not like a verbatim. There was some you could tell he was thinking about what he wanted to say and how he wanted to deliberate. It was just a genuine. And you know that he's a real human being that's living in the world that we're in right now. With the way that he talked about things and how things are in our world. That's just this kind of thing is just not okay. And it's crazy even how he brought it back to his role as a coach. Sometimes people get on this on the mic and they want to make it a bigger deal than it is and I now have a platform and I'm going to get up and who raw about it, but he's like, look, I take my job as a coach really serious. What we're trying to do here in the charge organization is build relationships. And I think this is exactly how you don't do that. You lose all trust and respect from anyone that you encounter. And so I don't know, I loved it. And I know people are wanting to jump on the charger bandwagon because of the W's, but because you know the guy. There's a lot of people I'm seeing on Twitter right now. I just experiencing Twitter the last 24 hours after this came out the amount of people that are like, hey, I'm a chief fan. I hate you guys, but I respect the shit out of you guys. Like, people from other fan bases are like, you know, this is what people want to hear. This is what people want to be reassured that things will get better. Things can be okay. So his ability to do that and who knows what's going to happen now. I've never experienced a coach saying basically a two minute little video has kind of there's a little fire now. There's this new little fire that people want to follow us because our coach and guess what? We have an awesome quarterback in an awesome team. So it's doesn't happen for you. Yeah, for sure. Why Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Objects to the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act
"We have a very special guest on the line none other well you know have friends fellow. Patriots called mt g representing georgia's fourteenth district congresswoman. Marjorie taylor green. Is it true you just left the flow of the house. What's going on there. Tell us give us an update. Yes i did. I just walked off and i'll have to be heading in here in a few more minutes. We're voting on amendment after amendment Most of this is going for the nda. So this is one of those wild weeks where vote after vote Most of them are democrat amendments. Because as you know they usually don't take republican amendments and some members of the freedom caucus have said that the nda should not be voted on by republicans until we see certain other actions taken by the white house. What's the state of play is going to go through. What's the latest number. Well there's a lot of us in the freedom caucus that are taking a stand against it we are. We're against drafting our daughters strapping young women. Especially when there's seventeen million young men eighteen to twenty five already signed up the flex services and our current Active duty military forces or at one point three million. And we're not even at war so there's no need to even be talking about drafting women at sample ridiculous. Of course we know women are capable and they're equal but we're just not into drafting our daughters our our wives and and don't think that that's that's necessary. It's another one of those Racing gender you know social issues. It's just pointless with that we can't trust this. How can we trust the military the leaders especially after they abandoned americans and and look what they did they arm the taliban so there's a lot to unpack
Texas Needs to Create a Confrontation With the Federal Government Over Border Crisis
"More complaining about to joe biden. And we know who he is. He is not the president of this country. He has some sort of aims ambitions to china or central america. We've gone into that many different times instead. We need to be solution-oriented. I do not like the politics of complaining. Now if you live in california. I get it. Texas is not california texas hill country. They'll secure the border. The good folks in fredericksburg texas. They won't put up with this at all. We also have to stop caring with the left and the media says about us to relevant play. Cut fifty two. But we want to show you why this camp got so big in the first place at swelled the fifteen thousand saturday morning hundreds of migrants at a time just streaming in from sudani kunia walking across the river and just illegally entering the united states without any resistance from our federal government whatsoever. They crowded on the shore and huge masses. We watched it for five six hours straight thousands coming in and eventually the only thing that stopped it was the state of texas and they literally formed kind of a wall if you will with their patrol vehicles and they stemmed the flow. They formed a wall and they stemmed the flow. Of course there's zero resistance from federal authorities. Federal authorities are under orders from the president to allow an open border society. And this really does open the question. And i've asked this question for the last couple months. And i think we're finally seeing an issue that is exposing how republicans are under prepared to deal with the actual crisis. That's happening in america. Which is how much power to the states. Actually have the federal government postures. They flex their muscles but we saw under the trump administration that the federal government backed down when sanctuary state and sanctuary city measures were passed in seattle in portland and san francisco. Los angeles what texas needs to do is create a confrontation with the federal government and the federal government will back down. Texas is the perfect place to test this out.

Ep 142: How Kindness and Community Empower Todays Nonprofit Leaders (with guest John Hoffman) - test
"Came to twenty twenty one kind of annoyed annoyed that nonprofit leaders and their remarkable heroics in twenty twenty didn't get the spotlight or the recognition. They deserved we all fussed. In twenty twenty about the dearth of leadership in our society. I think folks just looking in the wrong place overlooking leaders around this country who educate advocate feed the hungry provides shelter bring beauty through the arts lead congregations to help us keep the faith all of these people right here in front of our eyes. I see it every day and it makes me kind of angry that others don't or worse still. We talked about staff board. Volunteers of these nonprofits the backbone of our society we talk about these people as nice. Nice really rubs me the wrong way. It feels really pass to me now. Kindness is a word. I can brace but i don't know that i had ever spent that much time thinking about the distinction between the two until i watched a documentary on amazon prime the film. The antidote offered me an aha moment. And i just love a good moment is i learned that the reason i embrace the word kindness is that implies action it requires commitment and in this documentary. We see through stories. Beautifully told by my friend and six time emmy winner. John hoffman the kindness. M- may be thought of as something gentle but it has real strength. John says that kindness is a weapon for change. One of the heroes. He's spotlights in the film. Says quote kindness is a practice. Kindness is a stance end quote. And so today. I want you to meet my friend and john. He and i both know this to be true. Kindness may not be the ultimate antidote. And it's not actually something special you can drop into any community at any time and find it blossoming and you'll find those leaders who are practicing it every day. John's journey developing idea and bringing it to life is as instructive and as inspiring is the film. What's up. I feel lucky. Indeed to be able to introduce you to my friend. John and grateful that he's game to share his story with you. Greetings welcome to nonprofits her messy. I'm your host joan. Gary founder the nonprofit leadership lab where we help smaller nonprofits thrive. I'm also a strategic advisor for executive directors and boards of larger nonprofits. I'm a frequent keynote. Speaker blogger an author on all things leadership and management learn. More at joan gary dot com. I'm a one with a mission to fuel. The leadership of the nonprofit sector my goal with each episode is to dig deep into an issue. I know the nonprofit leaders are grappling with finding just the right person to offer you advice and insights. Today is no exception. John hoffman is a six time emmy award winning filmmaker whose most recent films include rancher farmer fisherman which premiered at the sundance film festival in january twenty seventeen and out of many one which premiered at the new york film festival followed by net flex in two thousand eighteen much. John's work as a filmmaker has focused on the key. Health issues of our time including the weight of the nation addiction and the alzheimer's project all on. Hbo and i in human on discovery. A six hour series set in the world's largest research hospital. The nih is building ten. In addition to making films. John has also been a network executive. He was the adp of docs specials for discovery. From twenty fifteen to two thousand eighteen and After nearly two decades as vp of documentary programming at hbo not in john's by is that he was instrumental. In persuading me that i needed to leave corporate america and become a nonprofit executive director. He may take some degree of pride in that. But it is far exceeded by the gratitude. I feel for what became a complete personal and professional transformation for me so john welcome and i am just not sure i can ever repay you for the art of press. Suasion was on display during a lovely brunch at our home so many years ago. Hi john john really wonderful to be with you. I am so out of you and all that you have accomplished in the time that we've known each other But the the tremendous evolution of your sort of career. You're you're on understanding end leadership in the not so My hat to you for all. You're doing that seems. Seems like you go have a piece of my hat. So so let's pick up your story about the making of this film from the point at which you and your team became kind of hyper focused on this world kindness and how you might explore it in a documentary. I guess you kinda define it. I why don't you tell us about the process. Well in in the two thousand sixteen two thousand seventeen but bearing much In i was Very disturbed as so. Many people were by the growing distance in the country. An outright hatred that was expressed in so many ways in the country and i had the incredible good fortune of having a relationship with A nonprofit health system called dignity health. They had funded in a very generous way some public health that i was doing when i left. Hvo when i created a nonprofit media company called the topic good projects and i was with the ceo of dignity house and their model is hello human kindness and i was having a very interesting conversation with him and senior leadership about the strong commitment as a nonprofit helped brighter kindness and our authentic was and i said would you ever consider doing the documentary becomes and lighting and that led to were conversation and eventually led just on that word to them giving principal funding for what became the antidote total editorial control. It was literally confidence in me to make a film on that. Were not a big risk now. Really not big risks. And so i put together a small team. I found a remarkable co director cooperman. Who was nominated for the kennedy award for short film. She did hojo's violin. Beautiful beautiful short documentary and we started on jer. We read everything we could about compassionate empathy decency putt from art and poetry in economics and political theory and evolution. We found absorbs so much and we quickly came to the realization that the world does not need any more exploration random next is that there's so many media platforms that on. Social media is love stories of random acts. We

I vividly remember that area when we dove air in two thousand nineteen there wasn't any pricing available in the article and you'll have to contact the hotel directly if you have the time and desire to dive with a purpose check out this program and market on your calendar. Long time ago. Donna and i lived in hawaii that was in the mid nineteen eighties. At that time we got to experience. What was probably one of the first while in walls in honolulu. If you're not familiar with wilem walls you can check them out. The wall was a large mural of the humpback whale on the side of a building near waikiki. It was quite impressive. Well it might not be a while and wall but if you happen to be near brant rock in mansfield massachusetts you can catch a the view of a mural of a large shark painted on the side of an old restaurant according to wicked local dot com. The mural was painted by a local artist. Shane leonard. Shane was a former football player at boston college. Who has a passion for painting and a passion for sharks. Now the muros on the side of the former arthur and patch restaurant that closed back in two thousand fifteen. The shark faces divers as they head down ocean street which is a one way street. So you can't miss it say. Shane says he likes the way shark. Show emotion. the photo is pretty impressive. there's no guarantee that the building won't be torn down. Now that is unoccupied but according to shane. Even if it doesn't survive it was worth doing so if you happen to be near mansfield mass check out the shark mural on ocean street about a month ago. Patio wear foundation announced their fourth annual aware week. Now this year it will run from september. Eighteenth through september twenty six two thousand and twenty one the whole idea behind aware week is to empower the global dive community to lead or take part in conservation activities in courses focused on local action for global impact in the past aware has focused on two elements marine debris and vulnerable marine species this year in concert with patties blueprint for ocean action. They're adding three more components. Climate change marine protected areas and coral reefs. Some of the ways. That dive shops can participate or by conducting aware classes like dive against debris coral conservation or the aware specialty. Also like us. You can become a one hundred percent aware dive centre where you provide a monthly contribution in support of the patty certifications you award. We are very proud to be one hundred percent aware. But here's something that. Patty aware foundation needs to work on. We need more notice as to win. Aware week is happening. I wasn't sure what was happening this year and our calendar filled up and we weren't able to get things scheduled as i mentioned at the top of the show. We've already created are twenty twenty two calendar and it would be nice to know when aware week twenty twenty two is happening. I also mentioned at the top to show that the re photo contest results were in and that i didn't win while scuba diving magazine. Magazine's two thousand and twenty one through the lens contest is also complete. The winners were recently released at scuba diving. Dot com and the photos will be revealed in september october special photo issue. They received one thousand seven hundred and nineteen photos from around the world. The contest categories included behavior compact camera macro and wide angle. The entries were judged on beauty originality and unique encounters. I check them out and they are spectacular. I only wish. I had the talent impatience to do that kind of work. Now if you wanna get a jump onto twenty twenty two contests they will start accepting entries january third two thousand twenty two and you can submit your photos through may thirty first two thousand and twenty two and finally we recently received our two thousand twenty two aqualung buyer's guide along with information on all the new products coming down from aqualung apex. So i thought. I'd give you a little preview on what's on the horizon. I from aqualung. They are releasing a new regulator the helix pro and the helix it looks like the helix pro is a mid range regular and i think it's replacing their core. It is a balanced first and second stage in his environmentally sealed with four low pressure ports and two high pressure ports. It was built for cold water and has the automatic closure device or a cd. lower end. helix is not environmentally sealed. And it doesn't have a cd and it's designed for warmer water. Also coming out in two thousand and twenty two is their new. Aqua fluck aqua flex men and aqua flex woman wetsuits. I think it's a redesign of their tried and true. Aqua flex line they also have a two millimeter. Free flex wetsuit now. The i one hundred computers going to come in a new color yellow and speaking of colors. They've added a number of different colors to various products including something called sand petrol red and orange as for eight packs. They also have a new regulator the xl four osha and it is billed as a totally sustainable regulator bay from post consumer waste it comes in grey or mint with some great etching. On the first stage. I suspect it's just like the xl four plus being an overbalanced diaphragm regulator with two hp and four l. p. ports. It looks pretty. Sharp and apex is releasing a new dive computer to the sx. It will be program can program up to six gases and monitor six transmitters. The has a titanium basil making it lightweight endurable but also has a color display. There's something more that require. Some more research It says it has in oh to analyze or onboard. But no to sell gotta check that out a little bit. There's a lot more out there and over time. Apple App Store Changes Fail to Stem Push for Overhaul Bill
"Peace offerings and settlements between apple and developers won't stop congressional moves against app stores couple of weeks ago apple announced a proposed settlement with smaller developers. Perhaps the biggest concession offered by apple was the one that would let developers use communications such as email to share information about payment methods outside of their ios app. A few days later apple settled with the japanese government that settlement included a pledge to let reader apps such as net flex and spotify. And who knows. Maybe some that actually involve reading under terms of the settlement apple will let reader apps include an in napa linked to their website for users to either setup or managing account and sign up using a non app store. Payment method will be possible according to a piece from macrumors. Maybe they think it's not enough. Maybe they just wanna look tough. Whatever the reason the piece from apple and cider has at least one. Us senator saying legislation up ending up stores. Run by apple and google will go forward last month. A bipartisan group of senators introduced the open up. Markets act speaking the bloomberg one of the. Bill's sponsors senator. Amy klobuchar democrat of minnesota. Said though apple is taken some small steps to respond to criticism of its anticompetitive conduct. They did not go. Nearly far enough there is growing momentum to pass the open up. Markets act to finally address apple and google twin monopolies. And i will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get it done. You didn't ask but i'll tell you anyway. What annoys me is. They're gonna point to this as a thing that they got done
NFL Wide Receiver Rankings 2021
"Football is right around the corner today. We're going through our consensus wide receiver. Reggie everybody likes wide receiver. Don't they wide receiver right gang. Judge go this is a big one guy. You can win your drafts with a lot of these wide. Receivers that we're about to talk about even if you drop them round one and round two and round three. Yes you certainly can. But we'll get to some. They can get much later. That are going to provide a lot of value in two thousand twenty one year. Yeah i can honestly say that. The one draft strategy to draft chinese. I've never taken a quarterback around one. And i have not taken a wide receiver in round one of any of my drought so far even super flex even supervise just getting. We just got some breaking news on sleeper that darryl henderson was injured in practice not return man would that be a huge injury to the rams funk season is funky town yeah davy jones. One of 'em jake fog or just a staffer. The woods cup higby season all adds to a man there on. Oh i hit. He's not gonna do me dirty two years in a row. That was a a when you're saying he is buy his jersey. If you finish for you. Oh i think i have to. That's too bad center role egg. I mean i. I don't own for that would be the economic shared the name first letter of the last name. I think it's a lot gusting at speaking injury. In preseason at all the things what are some preseason thoughts on wide receivers anything standing out or any injuries standing out anything. We should be on the lookout for as we get closer to the season. Starting all it's been kind of interesting like if you go to. Espn and just look. At the wide receivers. Half of them are listed as questionable. We're still a couple of weeks away from the season. So it's not overly alarming at this point but there are some injuries that are more alarming than others. That will get shortly. But let's start with our top wide. Receivers are we have devante adams tyreek hill stefan big calvin ridley the andrea hopkins and aj brown rounding out our top six. Which one of these guys do you wanna talk about. I think we could talk about devante. Adams tyreek hill. Just be as. I think i flip flop though is at least thirty times this off season gone back and forth between the two especially with rogers coming back. I don't wanna put davante adams at number one. You know contract year roger. They're going to go the big last dance. He's going to have all of the targets that he wants think he can get two hundred targets in a season. I don't but i think he's going to pace wide receivers when it comes to target. So i have devante adam just my number one. As well i think the touchdown potential. He is the favourite to lead the league in receiving touchdowns this year. Aaron rodgers coming back. That chemistry is as good as any quarterback wide receiver in the entire league. Yeah i had tyreek hill number one until aaron rodgers. I made it official that he was coming back and then davante adams shot right back up to number one. I have devante at number two tyreek at one. Like i said i flip flop all over but even as projections. I have devante adams at one hundred and sixty five targets. And i think that's conservative to be honest. I think it is still i. I got about one seventy five. Yeah i don't think he comes anywhere near two hundred I have team range. That one one sixty one seventy i. I also kind of a little bit worried. I think this offense could be worse than it was last year and cobb amari rounders are two factors that they did not have last year. That are legitimate receiving options. I do think that devante adam. I'm not gonna say this. I think he could actually Kind of disappoints fantasy owners this year. I'm not projecting it that way. But i see the path to it happening this year. Unlike in yourself.
"My Son Hunter" Is a Tale of Familial Tensions Between the Biden Sons
"For people who don't remember king lear. How is it related to king lear. Well king lear. What was a powerful mom. He was the king on. He decided just to flex his muscles and divides he divided his kingdom parity d- as a kind of sense of powerful omni and he said to his daughter. Do you love the dollar. Had approved a loved them. One dollars said. I'm not an art. It's a fight familial. Tensions and joe biden never liked hunter. Hundred beau biden was always the favorite song. The perfect son hunter was always struggling. I'm you know by the way i want. Joe biden was struggling. Drug addict son. He made him the mom for his corruption. Yes so so. I don't recall this. So you're you're right. Beau biden and of course died a few years ago very prematurely horribly. But so how is this when you talk about king lear. Did you get into this in the film. And the script this idea. The tension between these The sons of this powerful father. Totally totally take some ways extended its dot and greed is the driving force of the trash. You know You know it's it's hunter trying to please. That's why he's getting all this money. Obviously he is greeted of his ball. He's he's insatiably. Got an addict personality. But you know there's this familial drama played against this political drama a plan against complete far as
Pizza Hut Space Delivery
"What do you tip for pizza delivery to lower orbit. I don't know but i'll bet it's astronomical. The commercialization of space recently took a turn for the tasty windpipe giant. Pizza hut delivered a six inch. Salami pie to the international space station. We completed the first. The fastest and the farthest pizza delivery ever so far pizza hut leads in the commercialization of space race. Pizza is competitive and no one knows that more than pizza hut what can separate any product from its competitor is the marketing and in two thousand one. Pizza hut became the first restaurant chain to deliver to space. That's a pretty good flex if you're a pizza if you're in the highly competitive world of pizzaria ing to be able to say that you shot a pizza into space. Your mood papa. John's so it actually started with pizza hut advertising marketing things. Outside of the box the pizza was delivered via the zvezda service module and launch from biking or in kazakhstan on a proton k rocket and the second stage of the rocket displayed a pizza hut logo of course and was part of the company's dramatic throwing money at pizza hut to shake things up to be more competitive. Because also if you remember pizza hut from what i remember from the eighties can go to the restaurant. It was a experience it was like. Oh we're getting a pizza hut and as obviously delivery pizza was the delivery was pizza. Maybe other kinds of food chinese food might be delivered or or or you know sushi might be delivered but people were just getting more delivery and sometimes going out less or when he came to restaurants were like well. I don't really think of pizza. Hut is a restaurant. I think pizzas being delivered. Yeah as somebody who is a former pizza delivery driver and maker and worker You know how do we compete. And even within the other pizza chains out there. Because we're not the only game in town. Yeah let's throw a million dollars one million dollars twenty years ago. Wow into pizza delivery and space
Is California Overusing the Flex Alert System?
"As California summers get hotter. State officials are trying to avoid putting a strain on the state's electric did and they're offering issuing flex alerts. But as KCRW's Tara a tree on reports, Californians appear to be getting tired of the heat. And the state's pleased to conserve energy. When temperatures hit the triple digits. Many things can go wrong for the state's energy grid, and that heightens the risk of rolling blackouts for consumers. In the past California was successful at convincing people to voluntarily conserve energy by complying with flex alerts. Consumers are often asked to do things for a short period of time, like keeping the thermostat above 78 degrees, turning off unnecessary lights and holding off on using big appliances for a couple of hours, But there's a growing sense that the state is over using the Flex alert system. The tool was used just around 20 times between 2000 and nine and 2019. But so far this year, the state has already issued flex alerts five times and, according to Politico, Californians are already showing signs of fatigue. Demand for electricity didn't drop at all on July 9th or 10th. Despite to flex alerts, it did dip a little on the 12th when temperatures were slightly cooler. And that bodes poorly for future heatwaves. Experts safe Californians are unable to conserve energy. Higher electricity
Apple to Attend National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas
"From apple is headed to vegas. Apple insider says the cupertino company plans to take part in this year's national association of broadcasters convention or any be marking its first official presence in ten years. The last time it was there was an april of twenty eleven when it unveiled the sixty four bit version of final cut pro ten at the final cut pro user group super meat as for what it'll be doing there this year. Sports Marketing Podcasts Opportunities With Learfield IMG College CMO Jennifer Davis
"Do you find that in sports media. I know in radio. There's individual shows that are around one sports or at least a local market. You get a local sports channel. They're gonna talk about the bears and the giants and the cardinals. and the forty niners. And maybe the raiders. Even though they're in vegas they kind of bounce around from individual topic but with podcasting feeds you can be more verticalised. You can just have one specific show. I've seen this on the professional level where there is a warrior show sponsored by the athletic core nbc. But i haven't seen it in the collegiate level where there is the cal bears basketball show by anybody other than the cal athletic program. Maybe it's just because cal. Flex aren't as popular as texas in alabama and florida and some of the other major programs. But are you seeing sort of vertical is shows that are individual sports or school specific. I think there's a huge opportunity there and actually more nuance than what you think. Because college sports people tend to be fans of whatever that our team is playing. Even if they don't know the rules of the game like would we started doing e. sports at the college level. I saw some great tweets from college. Sports fans die hard like tennessee football fans. They're like my team is doing well and east sports. I don't know what that is. But i'm a tennessee band so go volunteers and i think there is as you said kind of across sport affinity but then there are some programs and often it could be the revenue generating sports football basketball but it also could be some of the olympic sports where the fans a lot has been written recently about the fans being very fluid in that. They don't get a lot of game day or meet day content because of the nature of the sport there van said they are used to looking for nontraditional content to keep up with what's happening in gymnastics or field hockey or swimming or rowing. So i think there's opportunity to do exactly what you are talking about in especially because of that community element. I think we talked about that. A couple of episodes ago is that. There's nothing like that college community. College community can be rallied around a specific type. And i think you're onto
Ronald J. Pestritto on the Origins of American Progressivism
"I have on the line ronald history. To- professor of politics at hillsdale college. I'm glad to bring to your attention and important new book. America transformed the rise. Legacy of american progressivism. Do you want to understand. What the origins of america's left are this is a book to do. So professor post-rio welcome to the dennis prager show. Hi donna factor. Having long yes. Indeed people don't know and it's understandable. They think to the extent that they think they think that it started in the sixties that's incorrect. Is that right. Well that's right. The sixties are flexing of what team before earlier weights of the bruins on. But you know one of the reasons. I i wrote. The book is because people down in trying to become so troubled many of them by what they see and don't and don't know that there's a much longer history this that's right. When would you say it began. So i try to talk to the latter part of the nineteen hundreds and really dennis to the really big changes that happened in in american higher education that time and that's the progressive movement a lot of the ideas that we get in really changing country twentieth and twenty first century. Really were the result of of very different political principles that were important into the country in the second part of the nineteen hundreds after civil war and that starting to universities and then influence later on the part of the twentieth century to the major political movement of progressivism and near the the more famous national figures. That people may have heard of like dido roosevelt. Woodrow wilson
Netflix to Dive Into Video Games
"That's looks he's getting into gaming marking big expansion for the streaming media giant. But we actually play these games. Roger chang this. Is your daily charge. Here talk about netflix. Upcoming venture is seeing. That media reported jones jonsman. I've object so first off. What netflix actually announce yesterday. Net flex confirms what it's already been telegraphing for while That it does want expand into video games. it's flirted with them a little bit in the past But what it wants to do is basically make video games. Starting with mobile games like another genre of programming on its service started out with their high profile highbrow drama series and then a few years later they expanded into reality shows and horror movies. They're kind of seeing video games as sort of the evolution of that but obviously video games are very different than you know a narrative television show or movie. Yeah i mean. That's a great point. Because i i know. Netflix is trying to spin this as almost another genre. It's expanding into but it feels like it's a whole it's a whole different experience and appears that's doesn't seem to have a lot of experience in gaming like what what are you sort of expect to senior. Well they've sketched out some pretty broad ambitions from what they're going to do they want to start out with mobile gaming i And but they've also said that they can see that expanding to every kind of device that they already support for netflix. Which means that. They envision gaming consoles as candidates for the kind of games they make desktop possibly gaming and of course streaming. Tv's which aren't necessarily you know you don't associated as gaming device quite as much but that's definitely where a lot of the growth has been in terms of watching television movies on that flex so maybe they'll figure maybe we'll crack the code on connected tv. I want to give you a little tip if you have an echo flex as you may know the echo flex is the smallest of the echo devices just plugs into the wall directly into a socket and that is it and you can also get accessories for it you can get light. You can get a motion detector. Their various things that you can do so if you have one of those accessories i just wanted to give you a tip on how to set it up and it's actually really really easy. Just make sure that you have the you have updated your lexi app on your phones that you've got the latest edition but then what you do is you said a greco flex as you normally would and then you just insert the the accessory into the echo flexes usb port so you basically plug in the echo flex will notify you by voice an send you a notification to the lexi app When it's ready to use and you can always find that accessory by then selecting devices in the app and you can go through that and set it up. Now if you do not see accessory try saying discover devices to lexi and that should help you out with that as well all right so pretty simple But it had some really nice functionality when you have an echo flex with like a motion detector emotion detector and that could for example trigger a light when you come in the room lots of cool fun stuff you can do with that. "Am I had a thousand Ford flex and I loved it so I bought a new in two thousand seventeen and I've had nothing but electrical problems with it and they can't seem to you know he said it's not like it used to be you know because now everything's computerized what is your take on the flex I mean I've been a huge fan I am saddened to hear that they were discontinuing it I've said a thousand times on the show there's it's the best drive an SUV on the road I mean there's just so many nice things about it how many miles you got on your twenty seventeen now I've got about fifty it's it's hard to tell what happens when you have these electrical problems all of the the screen with your directions in your phone and you know you'll be driving on your directions are there and all of a sudden it's just gone into a black screen and they won't charge the phone half the time so it's just you know frustrating a little I mean we were in the middle of going to Texas actually and the the directions went out on us and it didn't come back for probably a good hour two hours yeah and it's a lot I've heard I've heard similar stories with a lot of different vehicles have you had it into the same dealership every time for repairs yeah okay try a different one the reason I say that is it was sometimes fresh eyes will make a difference nextag at a different dealership what happens just briefly is when you have a problem and then you have that same problem again it goes back to the same technician that worked on the first time well he didn't fix it the first or second time good chance is not going to fix it the third time either but if you take it to a different for dealer and say here's my problem don't given the history don't tell me it's been the shop a lot just say here's my problem would you please try to fix it many times that will make a huge difference at the fresh tech will get it maybe the next technician is saying this problem before he knows exactly what to do and and so it's worth the time and trouble to try to get re fixed right if that doesn't work then I would call Ford Motor Company directly and follow complaint with them and let them send an engineer out to take a look at I.
