"And ray, we'd like to raise a glass of the fine chronicles series. Brought to you by Canadian club to mark on ray flurry for joining us today. 45 year old is out. It is available now looking forward to getting our little mitts on that 45 year old series to wrap it up. You know, Mark Andre flurry has been around the National Hockey League as we know for a long, long time. Of course he's serious. This guy is a fierce competitor as evidenced by hall of Famer resume. I think that's fair to say. You know, you can't help but smile when you're having the conversation with flour because, you know, he just takes you into places where he's just a good guy and a fun guy to be around. Man, he'll play as long as he wants to play. You know, just think of as he gets older. Like I watched him sorry, I'm gonna back up. I watched him on Tuesday in LA. He was phenomenal. Like the game So he gets beat in the third period, but he was amazing. I'm like, oh, he's not the wheels aren't off here. Like this is there's lots of great hockey left for Mark Andre fleury. And there's a time when maybe a terrific team says, hey, do you play 30 games for us? And the answer would be, he's going to be capable of doing that. But as you just mentioned, just as we were getting set here, made it pretty clear about the priority of hockey to family. And he, I don't know, he's just he's got a light about him. He's every teammate that plays with him talks about him in the same way and he's been he's been just a terrific player. Yeah, it's a bit of a throwback too though, right? Like in the fact that I mean, again, he's beaming when you guys are joking and talking about the pranks that he loves to play. But then you've got that fierce competitor where, you know, he softened it a little bit. The battles that he's had with Brendan Gallagher this season and historically and he's like, well, yeah, but you know, we're still friends. That's a bit of a throwback where you played hard against each other, but when the game was over, the game was over for the most part. Yeah, it felt like there was more in season crossover, like you'd run into teams after games and stuff because you always stayed over in that city. Right. You know, like nobody not many teams were chartering back in the day. So you stayed over and you go to a restaurant and pretty much everybody was there. And so in constantly see guys that had just finished punching each other in the nose and they'd be having a conversation. And it wasn't heated at all.

"So it's definitely more to take in consideration and not that I've been selfish, but I feel like I've fulfilled my dream for so long and I'm very lucky for that. So I don't want to be selfish moving forward either. Now, last year, you come to Minnesota and you're with cam Talbot as your goalie partner. And cap reasons are, you know, they move him to Ottawa and you get Philip Gustafson back as a partner. So now you're much older than your goalie partner again. There's a lot of talk about how many games can you play, how much is comfortable? What is it like a to be to have a goalie partner? Because you guys are your own little team there. We all like you guys. You are your own little team. And how much is good for you to play? Like, is it a couple of games a week? Is it like, how do you, how do you come to that? Yeah. I don't know, it's a tough question. I don't think I can set number in first season or week week. I think it depends on the schedule and the travel, how much you move it around. Oh, it's gone, right? I think you still want to be still on the good and stuff. So, but I think we go when we get a time pretty much what we've got to add. I'm still feel good. Still feel healthy, right? Yeah. I don't know, I'm not too worried about the number. Whenever I coach tells me to go play it. Now last night, you got to watch, well, today's, I don't even know what today. Today's Thursday. Wednesday. You watched Philip Gustafson play, played play great. Yeah. What do you do when you are not playing? Like you're watching Gustafson in the game, like first of all, you guys go almost two periods again without scoring and you're like, holy, somebody shoot it the next, right? How stressful is it to you just to watch? Is it worse than playing? Oh, it's this, oh yeah, a little bit because I feel when you play you just, you know, you're in the game and it started to stop the next box. You always busy, right? That's so easy. When you were just watching, I feel like you're more on edge of it. Every little place like, oh, you know, I got a lot more emotional. But again, it was fun watching him like you said he had an awesome game kept us in all night and it was fun. Fun to see boys celebrate after the first goal in the next few months, right? So it's good to be on the bench with them cheering for those goals. Now you've played with Hall of Fame players, guys that are going to the Hall of Fame and, you know, and now you're with another special guy in karel Capri's off. What does he look like?

"Obviously it's a very skill and nice call. You've been in the league now, you know, almost 20 years. Has it been as noticeable the way guys shoot the park was it quickly noticeable to you? How much better they shoot it or how differently they shoot it or a player like zebras, like did you notice right away and you're like, oh man, this is getting different. Yeah, I think the one piece stick was a big big game changer and then they kept getting better of it and better flex and I feel like before maybe like the third floor line. Nothing against them, right? They were like great players also, but I feel like with the wood stick and it was more grinding, maybe a little more few more fighters, right? Dump and chase hitting guys. Some guys had great shots, right? Like heavy and hard, but nowadays, everybody shoots, you know, the D coming in, everybody's got a great restaurant, a front line guys, they can snap the bucket on borrowing in and yeah, I think there's definitely a difference. Near the end of my career, I remember one of the goalies saying, yeah, the worst part about the one piece stick is now the guys that can't score, they shoot it so hard and they hit you in the chest and it hurts. A few more bruises, I guess. So Mark, you've been played for for so long. I'm really curious like as your career has gone on like, how do you evolve?

"All right, everyone raised. We jump into headlines. Talking about the goal that didn't count. Speaking of mark on referring the Minnesota wild now, it wasn't flurry in that. It was Philip Gustafson and that from the Minnesota wild. But Trevor ziegler scores the lacrosse school. And it's called back on a rightful challenge, right? I mean, dean Evans didn't allow. Their video guy obviously identified that the play was offside. But you and I have talked about this in the past, right? I haven't clocked it. I'm going to get the clocking on it because I'm going to talk about it on TSN. In episode 13 on Tuesday, you know, we talked about how good it is for the National Hockey League to have the celebrity of Ryan Reynolds interested at least in part purchasing the Ottawa senators. If I'm a fringe hockey fan, I'm drawn to what I just saw from Trevor's eagles, right? I mean, this kid is just loaded with personality. He's not afraid to try anything out there. And then if I'm a fringe fan, I'm like, well, it doesn't count. And I get an offside is offside the rule is the rule. But you and I have talked about this before. I need to find out what the time disparity was between the puck entering the zone offside. And then the ziggurat school. It was probably pretty close. But it feels like there's a tweak that needs to happen here. Would you agree? And here's another NHL exec through this and me this morning. And I want your opinion on this. If the defending team concedes the blue line. So the defense are either not there, not challenging, right? And the offensive player is able to the players are able to gain the zone without any sort of pushback. You can see your right to challenge. Hang on, tell your executive. Terrible idea. Terrible idea. Why is that? What? So when you come when you come to your house, okay? Assuming you're not parked in the garage, but you know, you come up to the front door. Do you want 6 laps around the house before you walk in? No, you walk straight in, right? That's easy to tell. Can you imagine in that scenario?

"I'm really happy with this one. Yeah i mean. There's a lot of the season ida game in buffalo. I think i'd like nine shots. No points now like this is ridiculous. You know best player on the ice in note points but that's the way it goes. Sometimes you some nights you have a bad night. You're not feeling up to power play points you know so i think for me. There was a point last year where it was kinda shifting where i was heading into the euro. Come on. I need to be a top player on my team. And then i realized you know. I'm going to be a special player in the nhl and you know this is a continuation of that in a minute. Just take another step forward so when you say the take that step. What are you thinking about like what. What are you going to be happy with. What's going to make you feel that at a few things in my head. You know the most important thing is leading the devils. The some wins. You know we don't wanna be at the at the bottom of the league again We ought to be pushing. And like i said we want to be playing important hockey down the stretch but on a personal note. Obviously points are important but wanna continue my game Keep getting better more dominant and you know the points will come. I just finish off place. But i think everyone is expecting me to have breakout year and i'm expecting on the less nico. He sure it seems as if when you look at the new jersey devils and the back end is the back end. And it's you know. Just gotta shot in the arm the summer. Everything upfront is built around unico. What should we know about. He sure he's one of one of our favorite players on this podcast. Why always stealth selke candidate etcetera which we know about he. Sure from your point of view. Yeah i mean. I wouldn't say he's been written off but he's last year. I think people forgot about him for sure. His the injury may be just because i missed the first thirty games in he had a freak accident took a slap shot to the face. You know so. He had a weird year last year. But you know we all expect a new jersey for to comeback in lead us be a great captain and you know produce and have a great year. It's not gonna work. If both of us aren't moving we me and him got to push his team forward. And i think i've new jersey knows the kind of person and player he has and i think he's not great year this. We had thai smith in our podcast last year. I was really impressed with him. Didn't know him that well but really impressed with him He told some great stories about competing. With stuff with brendan gallagher. You guys are friends roommates. Are you guys competitive with each other. Yes and no. It's different in season and out of season you know in the summer you're very competitive but in the season you're all focused on a common goal. You know We're both focused on pushing the devils ford and progressing our game so but smith a great did and we had some good times last year in living together this year. We got no furniture and our apartment right now. So he's sticking out right now. All i'm here but it'll be gooden. Think he's gonna take another step forward in nba good player again. So does he have the duties. Is that what that means everything together. Got him. I ordered the stuff for him but i think he's putting it together but we don't. We don't have nothing. There is no couch out. I've nothing in my room. So my tell lindy calmed down the first few days of training camp for the boys some furniture in now we we should mention to you in quin. Bought a place yeah. This year in michigan is their furniture in this house. Yeah yeah there as we Yeah we live together. We a few buddies out too so it was good. You know it's lawn. You know you pretty much saw this guy every day this year. We didn't really go on or the summer. We didn't really go on vacations apart from each other. So be nice to get my space now. But he's a good roommate and we had a lot of fun this summer. You know All the vancouver fans are all paranoid. The queen's gonna be a devil eventually sunday to yeah i mean i started the recruitment process. No but he he loves couvert. He's got to get that deal done. He's got to play some hockey but Yeah i mean. I'd love to meet up with him some day and now we got luke i i don't know if i see myself leaving jersey for a while but If quinn everyone come. I mean we'd we'd welcome with With open arms. I remember two years ago. When the bubble playoffs he played his heart out. And you know vegas made him the target they were like. I wondered what you thought watching that as vegas basically said we are not letting this guy beat us and we are going to take every run at him we can and i thought quinn handled it incredible. That's what happens when you're a great player. You become the focus of the game plan and wanted to know what you thought watching that. Because i thought he played his heart out in a situation where it was obvious. They said we have to. We have to beat the sky. The i remember. I think he was a point per game. Maybe like seventeen and eighteen games but man. I think he got disrespected this year. You know i mean i know. His first year is unbelievable. But and i know he had a lot of dashes and people questioned his defense this year. But you know at the end of the day when you're on a bad team that's what happens. You don't score as much as you'd like. Can you give up more goals than you should. I think people forget. He's an elite defencemen in this league. I mean man that playoffs him. Pd were credible. Driving that team to game seven with vega. i mean. He's an elite defenseman. He's going to have a big time year. I think people forget how good he is it. Any rough You mentioned name. A couple of seconds ago veteran coach well respected.

"Interesting because that was a question. We we got a question. The other day. The commissioner i in a meeting we did and it was putting covert aside. What is your biggest challenge and funny thing about where we are is. You can't put covert aside right. Cova defines everything we do and everything we're going to do for the course of this year. Unfortunately so you know. We are very pleased and happy. We've been able to do as well as we've done Both completing in nineteen twenty season and completing the truncated twenty twenty one season. We're looking forward to more progress this year. And as you said completing eighty two game season in full stanley cup playoffs and getting back to a more normal calendar than we've had in the last two years. Those are all important objectives. We are pleased with the growth of the sport. Growth of the league. And the league's fan base in and revenues We hope to get back on that cycle right so you know. The last two years have been strange years This year we were hoping that most if not all of our teams will have full buildings Fans in the stands passion around the game and we can get right back on the the cycle. We were on which is growth just out of that a couple of questions. First of all specific to canada. What are you expecting in terms of building. Capacities so Currently we understand. They'll be reduced capacity in vancouver. They'll be reduced capacity in quebec and to start off the season We don't know where we are going to be in ontario yet in. Ottawa and toronto both hoping For more guidance on that in the coming days and weeks and in alberta there won't be any capacity restrictions and manitoba no capacity restrictions so Pretty much full buildings certainly different than where we were last year in our canadian cities so hopefully very soon will have full capacity in our seven canadian cities. The other thing. I think people are curious about is just the cap you know you talked about the the business impact of cova. How long are you expecting either. A flat cap or just a million dollar raise per year. So i think we move at least our current projections on revenue Move us into kind of a million dollar raise a year starting next year So i do expect That will kick in. We do have flexibility under our formula under agreement players association to revisit that to the extent. There's a need to revisit that and perhaps make The increase greater but Certainly in short term. We've been telling our clubs to kind of plan on one million dollar increases to the cap olympics. That's a huge one. obviously As i look around the landscape am i characterizing this correctly i get the sense that. Nhl owners or the nhl or donald fear. The pa are thrilled about any of this but the players are would it be safe to characterize at the players are the only ones that are enthused about the idea. I think once you clarify that news enthused. That's probably true. I do think look. The bottom line is when we negotiated this with the players association. In the summer of twenty twenty. We knew it was important to the players and That's impart why we agreed to it. You know at the end of the day as we played out the negotiation the summer with the w. h. f. One of the huge issues was who's assuming the risk of kobe and the fact that the players kind of stepped to the plate and really assumed a large portion of that risk themselves tells you how much and how important it is to them. So i totally respect that. They love competing for their countries and winning medals for the countries and so i totally respect the importance. that this is for the players it's been demonstrated by what we're dealing with. So we support it. I mean it's You know best on best competition on the olympic stage You know you gotta look at the positives. The positives are they'll be more people watching our game than typically watch our game and and maybe that translates to the growth. I was talking about so we're trying to focus on the positives of olympic participation. And not as much on the negatives is there a deadline for when the nhl would have to say in the players have to say we can't go because their commitment to this so the commitment that the wf made us going way back way back to The meeting we had with rene fizzle At the stanley cup final. Is they understand that. We have to be flexible. We we have to have the ability to pull out if circumstances warrant us pulling out and so you know our discussions in our agreement with them. Contemplates our ability to pull out at any time There are different financial consequences associated with pulling out late as opposed to sometime this fall. And so that that's recognized in the agreement where where there's an assumption of costs associated with a a late withdrawal. I certainly hope that we're not in a position where we're making that decision in january or february if a decision to be made hopefully that comes sooner than unvaccinated players. The numbers you expect revolve around so we get projections From the clubs on a frequent basis One of the kind of the last gating Factors was what there are protocols. we're gonna look like Think we got the final protocols out. In early september to our clubs. I think that was a a motivating factor for a number players who are now in the process of getting accented. We do expect by the start of the regular season. The opening day of the regular season that the number of of nhl players who aren't fully vaccinated will be a very low number. Know less than fifteen maybe even less than ten so You know we're a very high subscription rate on vaccination in the nhl community think. We're about ninety eight ninety nine percent which We're we're pleased about so. In the code protocol agreement. There was something that said that there could be a choice to pursue a travel exemption with the canadian government. I think it's by friday. If a player is unvaccinated will there be a chance to get a travel exemption. Or are they going to be on their own so I think the commitment we made the protocol was to sit down with the players association by friday And talk about whether there's a need to go to the canadian government to seek an exemption that would be a process It's not as simple as picking up the phone Making a call and trying to get a travel exemption that are prior experience in the exemptions The national interest exemptions. We got from the canadian authorities. Were it's a you know. It's a multi week. Maybe sometimes multi-month process to get those types of approvals. So that's one of the things..

Turn about face and out the door just as a conclusion to your thought about the He's been bugging me. "Do flurry and lived in a fifteen hundred square foot apartment for most of her life. It was located near the red light district putting her right in the middle of the action during the bell. Talk sadly to flurry and passed away in that home in one thousand nine hundred thirty nine. Leaving on re to handle her affairs he then began living in the same apartment himself along with his own daughter but she fled paris in one thousand nine hundred eighty two and moved to the south of france in doing so. She left her father and the apartment behind her and never looked back. It was believed that on relive there until he died in nineteen sixty six. But even that wasn't enough to bring her back for a visit despite not once returning to the property even after her father's death she chose to pay the rent each month for the next forty four years. She died in two thousand ten at the age of ninety one with no one left to claim ownership of the apartments nor its contents it was opened up by the executors of her will to a local auctioneer and what he found albeit under a thick layer of dust astounded him. The apartment had been untouched for decades. It was filled to the brim with elegant furniture. One hundred years old or more in the bedroom. They found a four poster bed complete with canopy. A massive vanity had been tucked into the corner on top of which sat empty bottles and cannisters as well as an array of hairbrushes in the kitchen glassware pots pans and cutlery. All of it's still in place as though it had been waiting for. Its owner to come home. There was a giant stuffed ostrich in one room along with some mickey mouse and porky pig dolls all made before the second world war and artwork paintings of all shapes and sizes hung on the walls. Some had been leaned against furniture. And we're even seated on chairs across from each other like they'd been having a conversation. The peace to resist however was one particular painting. The portrait of the apartments original owner. Madame de fleury on painted by the master of swish himself. Giovanni bodini in the end. It seems the auctioneers hadn't unlocked in apartment door at all. He'd unearthed the time capsule that nobody knew had existed for over seventy

"Did name a pittsburgh's jack sullivan as a coach. So that's may be a sign but you know they obviously needed to have a coach ready case go and so maybe they're thinking like it's probably going to happen Anyway at the olympic hockey tournament. We'll have a lot of gold nights flavor to it. I think if and when it indeed happens I am actually you know kind of personally thinking. The nights are going to have guys like got Our ontario canada. Max patch ready team. Usa and probably will imprison in broader on sweden davis. Her anyone i am. I missing anyone else. You'd think a challenge for a spot. I thought i saw something on twitter. I admittedly on vacation and tried to stay off the The social media platform. But i thought i saw something maybe messina. Sheehan mark was involved in some pretty meetings with team sweden century. So yeah maybe. I guess like maybe like that might be in almost like russia. Maybe i don't know. I guess it'd be a really big year with the nights on himself in the picture. You know what. Alex stock in the injuries seems to. Maybe you know hunt away. Any chance he of at i i you know i don't know i guess meal absentee on that. Yeah i don't. I don't know what maybe like is there. Somebody awesome missed might marches. So maybe i don't know yet. Marsh does lead for team. Canada before the world championship. So when be shocking. If he went to camp. Got a chance to compete. Thank you dad. now's a good one. He could definitely be a guy that goes in myanmar Resign with the nights stock reopen the about like. Hey i would the goal of mine to play on the team. Sweden grow up watching sweden and the olympics as a kid. So he's certainly going to do all he can to potentially make that team obviously be very important. buyer missed because of his versatility as he could provide backup kind of at a lot of key positions for team sweden. I'm believe all those guys like involved amuse. How much would she look for. Zing always different. The golden knights team or teammates go at each other. the olympic do have happened. This the yeah. And you know i just obviously. He's not nominate anymore. Adding it's only fair known for mentioned mark. Worry i mean team canada. I'm you know what made me like harry price on exactly strength. Fourteen cannon goaltending arben. Somebody like marc andre. Or you had you know the shonky winning senior last year seemed like even being a mixes ralph. So yeah i mean. I think it'd be exciting. I just you know been in you know. Being able to discuss you know the teams and players and washing their development talking to them in terms of how much of a goal it is for them. I know alex talk. You know obviously probably won't get the chance to do that. But you so. Many at certainly takes a lot of pride when he's representing staying in at that press on a chest so yeah. I think they'll be some excitement. I might see it happen. I know there's a lot of questions when they just you know in of things like it's the same sort of questions you always you like the world cup soccer on the professional teams. And you know what happens when a guy gets earn the team going.

I haven't a school but do you think that's true. And it's very relatable at. It makes sense that you know. It took him some time to kind of get over. It eat said today us. Very thankful for general manager sambadrome on this chicago organization giving him the space needed but it sounds like he's toured the city now. He's talked to a bunch of you know former teammates or now about future teammates about the city kind of looked at some schools that his daughter go at and he's pretty comfortable that it's going to work out then he's gonna be will link to kind of move his family. He said he's actually fortunate. This space we just the third time he's had to do that Because a lot of guys move around a lot more than meets had zoom in his lengthy career on. But you talk a little bit now that we think now that he is going to play what we ultimately think of. The landing spot in chicago was twentieth in points percentage last year so not ziam not necessarily a great year but they do a lot of things of this off. Season in terms of your. They added defensive. Seth jones from columbus blue jackets. They added tyler johnson. A senator from the tampa bay lightning. He'll probably be there. Are line center you think. Time to chat like colleague. Dave shane dave house. Treat me over there will. I'm in la traffic right now. Literally rolling down oral with my friend at the wheel like the hawks intelligence division studios over here to my right now. We'll cheval hard. So and money familiar with Los angeles probably knows exactly where i'm at right now. I am not one of those people. So that i'll just made up to me but it sounds like you're doing well is my takeaway so i'll take it on this episode. Which like a day as a so graciously agreed to be an. We're gonna talk about mark. Andre fleury's decision to chicago next season he actually literally wrapped up is a zoom call with the local media there in some las vegas including yours truly are on there or also gonna talk about alex stuck injury news. They came out late last week. Right after we recorded. That made us look real smart. You know talk about some other stuff. Some olympics Potentially and the and what can happen with those end the golden knights next year. Before it's all that. I wanna remind everyone that beagle podcast is brought to you by the las vegas review journal. We are presented by blue are hustle. Also you got a check out. All written work at review journal dot com. They'll be much appreciated. As i said i got listening to marc andre. Fleury talk so you can read all about it on our website. And of course you guys get raises. Whatever you about guests due to this one we would very much appreciate it all right. So let's start with a big news. That came out sunday morning or according on wednesday afternoon and as a fact that marc andre fleury isn't deed laying for the chicago blackhawks. Next season you got traded by the golden knights to there for a minor league forward. Who's not going to be part of the knights organization a. Since move flurry has pretty much been quiet for the most part statement that night kind of thinking and not the organization by the way and then kind of you know retreated back into darkness for a little bit as john. Walsh said his final gonna seriously evaluated future. Which when you're thirty six years old. Obviously hain said is florida player is not gonna play ultimately decides to play in chicago sunday canada's a little you know twitter radio saying hey i'm in and like i said officially today on wednesday he gets introduced to the local media. I mean we talked about it when it happened. Dave today saul podcast. Just breaking down. The mark andre slurry trade and his legacy with the team. If you guys want to go check out that episode by which added a little bit about what we thought. The future might hold for marc andre. "Like that so that's the obvious one like you're going to take the pr hit that. They know that was coming with a move. Like trading flurry. You don't do it without feeling pretty good that you've got something coming back that's going to keep you as stanley cup contender. And you're you know improve your chances and so whether that's a different center whether that's a different player whether that's jack eichel whether it's you know we've heard a name like ryan strom connected to. They're obviously not done. They're obviously going to do something. The obviously you know are going to use that cap space to probably strengthen themselves down the middle. Now that's all despite killing crimmins contention that the outside view that they need to improve the center position is probably stronger than their internal view that they need to do that. They feel pretty good about channel. Stevenson william carlson. Noam patrick brett. How nicholas wind you know. Probably something the other folks that they have in their system by again. You don't make a move. Like trading mark andrzej flurry. There's too much smoke for there not to be some fire now for them to be linked to somebody big a big cap hit and you know most likely somebody that can put the puck on the net and get them over the hump in the in the playoffs man. We'll have to see what happens but it should be an eventful few days for the nights as it always seems to be this time of year so they said we'll come back with you guys probably later this week with episode recapping what. The nights ultimately did in free agency and any trays that they might make as well moving forward but obviously we felt because Flurries outside the impact on the organization. He kind of deserved a special quick episode. Break down this move specifically Because that's just how much he meant us before we wrap up here. One remind everyone that we are sponsored. "A does does little acts of kindness where he goes including making my friend's birthday obviously one. He'll never forget because he gloves telling that story. By the time the margin flurry. Pot matric So that's mile time of favorite. Marc andre fleury story and obviously for a lottery awesome. I think the. I think he'll be missed because i'm sure Me and my friends are not the only ones that have a flurry story. Like that So now gotta spend forward a little bit and just discuss. You know where all parties are gonna go from here. And we'll start with marc andre. Fleury himself he's joining a chicago team. Already made one splash move. This offseason by trading for defenseman steph jones from columbus and. It appears really trying to go forward here with kind of jonathan. Toews patrick kane. A starting to creep hordes the end of their deals now. There is some question of whether for you're gonna show up in play on his asian. Walsh said flurry quote will be taking time to discuss situation with his family in seriously evaluated hockey future at this time. May the mention today. Flurry wanted to stay in las vegas. That was his number one preference. Now maybe this is some sort of leverage ploy by By flurry to you know. Try to get moved to somewhere somewhere. He really wants to be many. Think people have brought up that maybe flirted with blindsided by this move. bud shirt tried to paint a picture today. That flurry was well aware. That this at least could be a possibility dean. What do you think. Mark andrea Future where he's gonna end up going from here while i mean obviously chicago as you pointed out. It's a halfway decent team and it's a pretty good city. You know no offense. I'm going to mention like a couple here. But you know it's not ottawa. It's not off low or something like you didn't get exiled. He's he's playing for a team if he decides to play that like. You said me. Big move for seth jones might get. This probably expected to get johnson taste back from his medical condition. You know stand. Bowman is making moves there to improving. Give them one last chance with canaan entails like you said you know to to to see if they can try to win one. If you're marc andre. Fleury you've got one year and you wanna take one shot at it. It's not a bad place to play in a dozen. Sound like he can maneuver his way. Too like pittsburgh or something like that which seems you know. Maybe like another logical landing spot. If you were going to go somewhere. I think some of this is maybe once the sting in a wears off. You know the the you know. He'll the wanna play. I just keep coming back to how much fun he seemed to have this year that he didn't didn't look thirty six. You know he didn't. He didn't look like somebody who was coming up on retirement in coming up on the last year of his contract in being asked questions. About how long do you wanna play. He looks like he's still had gas. Tank looked energized. this year refreshed. He bounced back so well. Obviously winning the vezina trophy so to say he's like what do like an aaron rodgers thing here like i'm gonna retire. I'm just gonna walk away or i don't know that i entirely see that you know. I don't think he needs the money. And if he feels like he's at a point where families more important and he can walk away from seven dollars on the table and has losses love. you know. Obviously you know everything that happened with. His dad passed away and the effect that it had on him. I mean who can boyne geez. you know. i'm somebody who's mom passed away when when he was a kid. I you know can only. I can only imagine what it's like to go through your life. You know your father by your side and your whole It obviously had an effect on him. And so you know who knows if that factors into by at least just looking back last year. It felt like he still have love for the game. I remember him saying as long as he still had fun. As long as you still enjoy coming to the ring you know he still wanted to play. He said that numerous times kind of you know during the season he hit you know a bunch of milestones climbing to third on the all time wins list heap mentioned again after winning the vezina. Trophy is kind of you. Know post awards. Show zoom met. He did and so you know because he seemed to be having a lot of fun last year end was at. I mean literally the top of his game. I mean he had the best. Save percentage in the best goals against average career last year. I mean as you said. It's tough to see him walking away from that. But you know maybe he decides on the back said that teaches wouldn't have the same level of fund getting to know a new city a new locker room a new team and all that we'll we'll have to see now for the nights this puts them in a very Situation before agency opens on it opens at nine am wednesday as i mentioned off the top. We're recording this very late on tuesday afternoon so by the time. A lot of you guys are listening to this. Range seem ardy had started in. The nights might have already made a bunch of moves but will recap those at a later date for now. Focus quick on flurry in its impact once the nightside out martinez to a three year extension. Which are we obviously. Expect to become official. That will become official likely tomorrow. Based on what recurrent said today They're going to have approximately five point. Eight four million dollars in cap space before resigning a restricted free agent nolan patrick Thirteen forward seven defensemen one goalie under contract on a one way deals which means they get paid the same weather there in the nhl or hr once martinez patrick sign on mccrum. And did say the team was gonna go shopping or backup goaltender to shoulder the load with liner via free agency a trade. They're not just gonna hand that job to age l. goalie of the year logan thompson. Obviously they're gonna be. The cycle is offensive options available in the flat cap world that the nights can pursue because everyone's budgets are being squeezed a little bit tighter so just real quick for a wrap up here dave. How do you think the sets up the rest of their off-season starting tomorrow. I don't think you move like trading markazi flurry to clear all that. Cast without something big in mind Heartlessly the name that the on the tip of everybody's as jack eichel. He's got a ten million dollar cap. It and if you go on social media and you follow all the insiders you know everything that the links seem to be stronger and stronger. Having have a chance to make many phone calls myself on that matter but you know there's even some alleged proposed deals out there and and.

"This city in this franchise on the hockey map because of who he is and the way that he plays. Yeah before turn the page. A little bit i mean. Do you have a personal favorite. Marc andre fleury moments or interaction Four years of covering him. Ha ha new idea. But it's not safe for work. So i'm gonna try to tell the story but i have to admit it so the very first year after they swept the kings in the playoffs. There was you know a few days of off time off days. There only a couple of us that were standing around mark grungy flurries locker and we were asking him questions and you know one of the things. I was trying to ask him about and learn about really. Was you know the difference between a regular goalie and a playoff goal and and guys who can kind of flip the switch and turn it on and you know at the time i think i didn't quite fully grass the difficulty that he had times in pittsburgh with sort of the playoff flurry in the criticism that he got there. He you know everything about marc. Andre fleury is so positive. And i asked about that night push them a little bit and he basically in so many words told me to get the bleep out of here and i did and i walked away and then he kinda shot another whatever at me about. You know. it wasn't good enough for you. You know holding the the kings. I think it was two four goals or something like that. In the in the four hundred remember seven goals whatever it was in that series that swept them in the and i just was stunned. Denied just stopped and was just kind of like i come so you know yes. Yeah yeah yeah but he came out in you saw like a completely different side sort of the side. You know we see a little bit. I'll let the saudi oil. You know our contract flurries got very foul mouth. And i love it like. He'll catch himself when he causes. It will apologize. But he's was mad at me and he was really. You know use legitimately angry and probably had a right to be. And i walked out a locker room that day and i felt really bad and i was kinda checking myself a little bit as a reporter in you know how i asked questions in how i approach subject and i was walking out of city. National arena and marc andre. Fleury happening me doing some photo stuff in a different area. And he walked right past me and stock me me right. In the eye of david i apologize. We talked for two minutes. And i apologized to him and told him i push them too hard on that. You know that that subject. And i understand than will always felt like we had a cool relationship and going forward. Maybe that had something to do with it now. Always love hearing him. Slip up in us and john f-bomb bomb or something like that in the locker room and get all sheepish. Shido feel bad about it by that. Just yeah that one story especially. I don't know why it always stuck with me. Just you know maybe it was kind of my welcome the nhl or something like that. But just to see kind of a different side of marc andre. Fleury you know a little of that competitive side in you know little of that. Will that that foul mouth has certainly as we do this podcast than i do. Radio stuff i have a bad now. I have to catch myself all the time. So i can certainly appreciate that about mark andre flooring that's just one rambling long story that i'll actually never forget. Yeah no yeah. That stirs perfect. I own a quick yet. Tell coupled for von here one. When you're i was trying to wrack my brain because you pops another story into my head. And i was at a road game once. I think he was one of the nearby ones. La or san jose anaheim. I wish i could remember. I don't And you know there's a couple reporters that were just talking to flurry after we wrapped up like his post availability whatever Someone had mentioned like. Hey weren't there like a lot of nights fan. Wasn't that cool influence that. Oh yeah. yeah and then. He asked the reporters that were there like. Hey please videotaped me like saying. Hey thanks for all your support fans. He wanted to get it out there. Any like stopped reported. Like k- know. Turn your cameras back on to make sure that i get this out there. Which is crazy by all time favourite. Marc andre fleury story is at one time i was in summerlin at a friend's birthday brunch and of course you know we were being very over the top You know obnoxious table. I think by friend had some silly hat on to indicate that it was his birthday. And we'd sung happy birthday for him so we just took everyone's attention in this nights brunch and right before we did that you know. I just notice out of the corner of my eye. Marc andre fleury and his family kind of you know just walked in sat down at a table and obviously had to be you know forced to listen to all of our lovely singing voices and i don't think he actually notice me or sauve that i was there but a little bit later after finishing happy birthday all of a sudden our waitress brings some drake's over to the table in mentioned like hey like these drinks have been purchased by someone the restaurant happy birthday and obviously we're perplexed like kind of confused like who would have done this and we can oppress the way channel bitch like book like whoever you know bought. These doesn't wanna say doesn't want it known that like goes in does this or whatever and so obviously is pretty easy connected dots Mark under clery bought my friend birthday drinks just because he happened to walk into the restaurant. We are at and saw that it was his birthday and decided to do like a super nice thing for him despite not knowing him at all or whatever. That's just what marc andre fleury..

I'd like to thank mark on briefly for his time in vegas it's Incredible the moments that We shared with him as part of our organization. He was the most Audra player i've ever seen in sports. He was the face of the franchise when you think back to how it all began the story book for season the You know the You'll the passion that he has for the game as As both a team made a wireless connected to the fan base. I wanna recognize His great accomplishments. Thank him for his time For his time here he's out in a tremendous impact on our organization. He's a tremendous impact on our cities. What is a pocket fans. This is the golden edge. Podcast the podcast. Where the las vegas review journal talks about hockey and some special players who play it because obviously this is going to be an episode. Devoted basically entirely to one marc andre. Fleury i am ben goats. Your gold nights beat writers for the las vegas reviews on joining me on the other. Line is my colleague. Dave shane. Dave how is this. Lovely july tuesday treating you while i was hoping to get this week. You know maybe a little quiet then slink off to my vacation and you know just kinda see what happens from there but not with this team now kelly criminal george mcphee in charge no way so as always gotta be something for us. Gone on exactly. They are a lot of things but never boring in that includes on. Today's massive news of they have traded. Marc andre fleury to the chicago blackhawks. There is so much to dissect with this kind of bombshell of news out of the drop dinner laps. This guy tuesday morning. We're obviously going over the implications of for the nights why they decided to do what how they ended up doing it. And what it means for the future were based gonna spend this entire episode going over that we will probably be back with you guys later this week recapping what. The nights did in a free agency but we felt the marc. Andre fleury was obviously based in his outside impact on the organization and the city of las vegas worth than episode basically unto himself. So before we dive in. I want to remind you guys that the podcast is sponsored by one hour heating and air conditioning. But we are also presented by blue wire hustle. Also you guys get Subscribe whatever you buy gas due to this one. All be there in one neat little paper sized package really recommend you guys. Pick that up hull right. So as i mentioned off the top of this morning news broke that. Marc andre fleury. The face of the knights franchise the vezina trophy winner. And of course a almost certain hall of famer was traded to chicago. The return was a minor league forward. Mikhail hacker rain and who is actually going to remain in chicago organization Nightstands fans remember a similar kind of arrangement happened when a defenseman knicks de simone was technically traded to the nights in the mataya danmark deal at the deadline but actually stayed with the sharks organization. It's basically similar up so essentially. The nights treated the best player in team history. So far and his seven million dollar cap hit this coming season for essentially no return Before we get into the bus particulars and boy are regan. Get into some particulars of this trade. Dave just win. This news dropped in you i saw. What was your initial reaction in response to the news that marc andre fleury is no longer going to be a golden night. I mean i think we heard somewhere spurs if you follow the right people on twitter and things like that there were some rumblings elliott freeman from sports that hey kind of floated that something fell apart at the draft with a goal and he didn't really say it by name but he kind of enhancing in some other folks have been hinting. That chicago had shown some interest in marc andre. Fleury and i think we can say now. Because i don't think it's going to happen. But apparently like new jersey had shown some interest in robin lehner and maybe new jersey showed some interest in our contract forty as well. It seemed like kalama criminal alluded to a second team as well that you know kinda come in at the end. It may be wanted to do something as well. Also in that regard. I think you know it wasn't like totally caught off guard and yet i say all that and you're just never ready for it like you see it. Come across you see the nights in makes phone calls and talk some to some people in you know. They put their release out. And it's just like really. It really really happened like you know. I mean you're kind of preparing for your preparing for it and then it happens and it's still just feels you know like it came out of left field in and you just never saw common. The as is one of those things where in we've obviously mentioned on the show several times. The possibility that nights could move a goaltender this off season. We talked about it all the time last off season when there were i would say even more rampant rumors that marc andre fleury was on the trading block potentially on the move but until you know they actually pull the trigger on it until as use of kind of like the tweet comes out from the night saying. Yep it's official. we have traded. Marc andre. Fleury as you said it just kinda hits you almost like a bus brick to everyone. Say it's just something that takes awhile to really impact and realize that the organization you know for better for worse there obviously hoping for better is never going to be the same dave. We'll see you know. He certainly had his impact on the city. I think on clarity some fans and all that you.

"Here's a guy smitty that you know he. He's he put in vegas on the map for goodness sakes just won the vezina trophy. Like you've been traded. How disrespected would you feel. If your marc andre fleury and eating him get a call the courtesy of a call. Let you know you'd been dealt away. Never got to the stature of flurry for sure. But that hasn't been handled right In the last couple of years Dating back to the to the playoffs. Basically since Pete the boras come in and be been the coach there. He's always been leaning towards leonard a little more and and Yeah you're right. He he put vegas on the map when they were an expansion team and he carried the load All the way to the finals and he seems still a great goaltender and You know chicago of talk that he's gonna retire but i think you'll end up going chicago. And and and what a clear salary dump when you're when you're acquiring You know basically a future hall of famer for guy who's never played in the national hockey league. Yeah am i Maybe i'm jumping on on vegas a little too much. You're maybe me the players perspective on being traded. It's obviously a disappointment that you're moving on most of the time i guess sometimes is a good thing. Maybe it's a bad situation. You want to get to a better one but generally in big picture terms. It's probably a disappointing day. Does it matter if you actually hear from the team before you read it on twitter. Is that a big deal or not. It is and I was back in the day and it is now. You wanna hear From the team. That's that dealt you before you talked to anybody else. Then you talk to the team that's acquired you and and you can digest it a little bit. You have a little bit time. Things happen quickly But for him for flurry not to get to be told about this Beforehand is is unacceptable. Because of what he's what he's done for that franchise and We'll see where it goes but he definitely He's been the face of that franchise so it's It's probably disappointing in his is no question and follow a vegas writer on twitter. And he put it out today because marc andre fleury founded. "I mean, we've got billboards up Through a Republican Accountability project calling for a lot of these officials to resign. There is needs to be a relentless public pressure that says what they did was wrong and be very clear about that, because it was wrong. There are some ways that government could address this censure explosion. Do you look at those his options? I do, but it's difficult. You know, you've got a collective action problem where so many Republicans participated in this problem. They're not really gonna hold each other accountable. I mean, Democrats essentially have to do it. And so then it looks entirely political, Which is why the rest of the culture sort of has to step in here. It's why it's so important that those 10 Republicans voted for impeachment in the House and why it's going to be extremely important. That is many Republican senators as possible, stand up and do the right thing now, because that's really gonna matter showing people that there is some accountability even from within your own party in terms of what businesses could do. We've already seen businesses. Reacting in recent weeks, publishers canceling Republican book contracts donations stopping the PGA canceling its its contract with the Trump golf Course. In some ways, do you think corporate America is more uniquely positioned that even our government to address these issues if they disagree with the politics of some of these politicians? Do you think so? I think that you know, corporations can show a lot of moral leadership in this moment. I think the important part is that it not just happen sort of in a mini Fleury right after the insurrection that it's something that's maintained that more businesses come out, especially right now, during this impeachment trial that people lay down a marker that says anybody who voted for this toe object to the certification of a free and fair election. We're not going to donate to them. That's Republican strategy to Sarah Long. Well, thank you for your time. Thank you. Yeah..
