Madame De Florian's Abandoned Apartment

"Do flurry and lived in a fifteen hundred square foot apartment for most of her life. It was located near the red light district putting her right in the middle of the action during the bell. Talk sadly to flurry and passed away in that home in one thousand nine hundred thirty nine. Leaving on re to handle her affairs he then began living in the same apartment himself along with his own daughter but she fled paris in one thousand nine hundred eighty two and moved to the south of france in doing so. She left her father and the apartment behind her and never looked back. It was believed that on relive there until he died in nineteen sixty six. But even that wasn't enough to bring her back for a visit despite not once returning to the property even after her father's death she chose to pay the rent each month for the next forty four years. She died in two thousand ten at the age of ninety one with no one left to claim ownership of the apartments nor its contents it was opened up by the executors of her will to a local auctioneer and what he found albeit under a thick layer of dust astounded him. The apartment had been untouched for decades. It was filled to the brim with elegant furniture. One hundred years old or more in the bedroom. They found a four poster bed complete with canopy. A massive vanity had been tucked into the corner on top of which sat empty bottles and cannisters as well as an array of hairbrushes in the kitchen glassware pots pans and cutlery. All of it's still in place as though it had been waiting for. Its owner to come home. There was a giant stuffed ostrich in one room along with some mickey mouse and porky pig dolls all made before the second world war and artwork paintings of all shapes and sizes hung on the walls. Some had been leaned against furniture. And we're even seated on chairs across from each other like they'd been having a conversation. The peace to resist however was one particular painting. The portrait of the apartments original owner. Madame de fleury on painted by the master of swish himself. Giovanni bodini in the end. It seems the auctioneers hadn't unlocked in apartment door at all. He'd unearthed the time capsule that nobody knew had existed for over seventy

"Yeah first of all your metaphor just like shocked to the core now in the start cheering up as we record this podcast thinking about all be lovely loss loves. I haven't a school but do you think that's true. And it's very relatable at. It makes sense that you know. It took him some time to kind of get over. It eat said today us. Very thankful for general manager sambadrome on this chicago organization giving him the space needed but it sounds like he's toured the city now. He's talked to a bunch of you know former teammates or now about future teammates about the city kind of looked at some schools that his daughter go at and he's pretty comfortable that it's going to work out then he's gonna be will link to kind of move his family. He said he's actually fortunate. This space we just the third time he's had to do that Because a lot of guys move around a lot more than meets had zoom in his lengthy career on. But you talk a little bit now that we think now that he is going to play what we ultimately think of. The landing spot in chicago was twentieth in points percentage last year so not ziam not necessarily a great year but they do a lot of things of this off. Season in terms of your. They added defensive. Seth jones from columbus blue jackets. They added tyler johnson. A senator from the tampa bay lightning. He'll probably be there. Are line center you think. "Like that so that's the obvious one like you're going to take the pr hit that. They know that was coming with a move. Like trading flurry. You don't do it without feeling pretty good that you've got something coming back that's going to keep you as stanley cup contender. And you're you know improve your chances and so whether that's a different center whether that's a different player whether that's jack eichel whether it's you know we've heard a name like ryan strom connected to. They're obviously not done. They're obviously going to do something. The obviously you know are going to use that cap space to probably strengthen themselves down the middle. Now that's all despite killing crimmins contention that the outside view that they need to improve the center position is probably stronger than their internal view that they need to do that. They feel pretty good about channel. Stevenson william carlson. Noam patrick brett. How nicholas wind you know. Probably something the other folks that they have in their system by again. You don't make a move. Like trading mark andrzej flurry. There's too much smoke for there not to be some fire now for them to be linked to somebody big a big cap hit and you know most likely somebody that can put the puck on the net and get them over the hump in the in the playoffs man. We'll have to see what happens but it should be an eventful few days for the nights as it always seems to be this time of year so they said we'll come back with you guys probably later this week with episode recapping what. The nights ultimately did in free agency and any trays that they might make as well moving forward but obviously we felt because Flurries outside the impact on the organization. He kind of deserved a special quick episode. Break down this move specifically Because that's just how much he meant us before we wrap up here. One remind everyone that we are sponsored. "A does does little acts of kindness where he goes including making my friend's birthday obviously one. He'll never forget because he gloves telling that story. By the time the margin flurry. Pot matric So that's mile time of favorite. Marc andre fleury story and obviously for a lottery awesome. I think the. I think he'll be missed because i'm sure Me and my friends are not the only ones that have a flurry story. Like that So now gotta spend forward a little bit and just discuss. You know where all parties are gonna go from here. And we'll start with marc andre. Fleury himself he's joining a chicago team. Already made one splash move. This offseason by trading for defenseman steph jones from columbus and. It appears really trying to go forward here with kind of jonathan. Toews patrick kane. A starting to creep hordes the end of their deals now. There is some question of whether for you're gonna show up in play on his asian. Walsh said flurry quote will be taking time to discuss situation with his family in seriously evaluated hockey future at this time. May the mention today. Flurry wanted to stay in las vegas. That was his number one preference. Now maybe this is some sort of leverage ploy by By flurry to you know. Try to get moved to somewhere somewhere. He really wants to be many. Think people have brought up that maybe flirted with blindsided by this move. bud shirt tried to paint a picture today. That flurry was well aware. That this at least could be a possibility dean. What do you think. Mark andrea Future where he's gonna end up going from here while i mean obviously chicago as you pointed out. It's a halfway decent team and it's a pretty good city. You know no offense. I'm going to mention like a couple here. But you know it's not ottawa. It's not off low or something like you didn't get exiled. He's he's playing for a team if he decides to play that like. You said me. Big move for seth jones might get. This probably expected to get johnson taste back from his medical condition. You know stand. Bowman is making moves there to improving. Give them one last chance with canaan entails like you said you know to to to see if they can try to win one. If you're marc andre. Fleury you've got one year and you wanna take one shot at it. It's not a bad place to play in a dozen. Sound like he can maneuver his way. Too like pittsburgh or something like that which seems you know. Maybe like another logical landing spot. If you were going to go somewhere. I think some of this is maybe once the sting in a wears off. You know the the you know. He'll the wanna play. I just keep coming back to how much fun he seemed to have this year that he didn't didn't look thirty six. You know he didn't. He didn't look like somebody who was coming up on retirement in coming up on the last year of his contract in being asked questions. About how long do you wanna play. He looks like he's still had gas. Tank looked energized. this year refreshed. He bounced back so well. Obviously winning the vezina trophy so to say he's like what do like an aaron rodgers thing here like i'm gonna retire. I'm just gonna walk away or i don't know that i entirely see that you know. I don't think he needs the money. And if he feels like he's at a point where families more important and he can walk away from seven dollars on the table and has losses love. you know. Obviously you know everything that happened with. His dad passed away and the effect that it had on him. I mean who can boyne geez. you know. i'm somebody who's mom passed away when when he was a kid. I you know can only. I can only imagine what it's like to go through your life. You know your father by your side and your whole It obviously had an effect on him. And so you know who knows if that factors into by at least just looking back last year. It felt like he still have love for the game. I remember him saying as long as he still had fun. As long as you still enjoy coming to the ring you know he still wanted to play. He said that numerous times kind of you know during the season he hit you know a bunch of milestones climbing to third on the all time wins list heap mentioned again after winning the vezina. Trophy is kind of you. Know post awards. Show zoom met. He did and so you know because he seemed to be having a lot of fun last year end was at. I mean literally the top of his game. I mean he had the best. Save percentage in the best goals against average career last year. I mean as you said. It's tough to see him walking away from that. But you know maybe he decides on the back said that teaches wouldn't have the same level of fund getting to know a new city a new locker room a new team and all that we'll we'll have to see now for the nights this puts them in a very Situation before agency opens on it opens at nine am wednesday as i mentioned off the top. We're recording this very late on tuesday afternoon so by the time. A lot of you guys are listening to this. Range seem ardy had started in. The nights might have already made a bunch of moves but will recap those at a later date for now. Focus quick on flurry in its impact once the nightside out martinez to a three year extension. Which are we obviously. Expect to become official. That will become official likely tomorrow. Based on what recurrent said today They're going to have approximately five point. Eight four million dollars in cap space before resigning a restricted free agent nolan patrick Thirteen forward seven defensemen one goalie under contract on a one way deals which means they get paid the same weather there in the nhl or hr once martinez patrick sign on mccrum. And did say the team was gonna go shopping or backup goaltender to shoulder the load with liner via free agency a trade. They're not just gonna hand that job to age l. goalie of the year logan thompson. Obviously they're gonna be. The cycle is offensive options available in the flat cap world that the nights can pursue because everyone's budgets are being squeezed a little bit tighter so just real quick for a wrap up here dave. How do you think the sets up the rest of their off-season starting tomorrow. I don't think you move like trading markazi flurry to clear all that. Cast without something big in mind Heartlessly the name that the on the tip of everybody's as jack eichel. He's got a ten million dollar cap. It and if you go on social media and you follow all the insiders you know everything that the links seem to be stronger and stronger. Having have a chance to make many phone calls myself on that matter but you know there's even some alleged proposed deals out there and and.

"Here's a guy smitty that you know he. He's he put in vegas on the map for goodness sakes just won the vezina trophy. Like you've been traded. How disrespected would you feel. If your marc andre fleury and eating him get a call the courtesy of a call. Let you know you'd been dealt away. Never got to the stature of flurry for sure. But that hasn't been handled right In the last couple of years Dating back to the to the playoffs. Basically since Pete the boras come in and be been the coach there. He's always been leaning towards leonard a little more and and Yeah you're right. He he put vegas on the map when they were an expansion team and he carried the load All the way to the finals and he seems still a great goaltender and You know chicago of talk that he's gonna retire but i think you'll end up going chicago. And and and what a clear salary dump when you're when you're acquiring You know basically a future hall of famer for guy who's never played in the national hockey league. Yeah am i Maybe i'm jumping on on vegas a little too much. You're maybe me the players perspective on being traded. It's obviously a disappointment that you're moving on most of the time i guess sometimes is a good thing. Maybe it's a bad situation. You want to get to a better one but generally in big picture terms. It's probably a disappointing day. Does it matter if you actually hear from the team before you read it on twitter. Is that a big deal or not. It is and I was back in the day and it is now. You wanna hear From the team. That's that dealt you before you talked to anybody else. Then you talk to the team that's acquired you and and you can digest it a little bit. You have a little bit time. Things happen quickly But for him for flurry not to get to be told about this Beforehand is is unacceptable. Because of what he's what he's done for that franchise and We'll see where it goes but he definitely He's been the face of that franchise so it's It's probably disappointing in his is no question and follow a vegas writer on twitter. "Had four shots on goal in the Yeah, Yeah, yeah, four shots on goal. Not in the first period, and I forget I forget what the total was for. The game had like 18. And they didn't have 20. Yeah. 20 shots and Pietrangelo blocked five of those shots by the way. Yes and good job, Alex showing up there. That's that's tremendous. I mean, that happens that the Knights of have shut down. They shut down rancid and they've they've shut down. McCain and I think that we've that we've seen the last two days that and we've I've seen the avalanche have made they've They've been kind of. I don't think they've been very careful with the puck. They've had passes have gotten stolen by the nights. I think that the the avalanche of relying on athleticism of McKinnon and rancid and for the entire year it got to turn it around. Does Colorado on Tuesday. Okay? I always have to tell a story, right? I always have to tell a story. This is not an old one. But and it will apply to Alex Tuck. And his ability to go at it and fight. Okay. This is year one of the Vegas Golden Knights when I was a rookie, and of course, they got him from Minnesota and Eric Holla. And you remember that you know where they are in the locker room, so you guys can picture this? Tux Locker was right next to Eric Hollis locker when they were with the Vegas Golden Knights. And so I asked the question I was doing a feature story on a Gordie Howe hat trick, which Most hockey people know Gordie Howe hat trick is when you score a goal, get an assist and get in a fight. In the same game. That's a Gordie Howe hat trick tries asking. Talk about Gordie Howe hat trick If he's ever gotten one, and so Eric Holland next to him starts rolling. I could I could almost hear him rolling his eyes, but I could certainly see it out of the corner my eyes and then he starts speaking up. And he starts sort of sort of ribbon on talk and saying, Come on. Now. He's never been in a fight. He's not going to go. He does. He's not a fighter. So then I turn my mic Kahala and then hollow starts talking and touch starts laughing and they start laughing about how talking and Holla, of course, was giving the rookie Alex Tucker ribbing. We're not getting in a fight. Well, the next ship the next game the next day after that, Alex start gotta Gordie Howe hat trick in his first NHL fight and And so my point to that is Alex Tuck has been mentioned. We are four times and trade deals with other teams, and the Knights have said Alex talked, is untouchable. No, we are not going to. You know, he's not on the block. He's not going to be traded. And there's times where he's shown flashes of brilliance. There's times where he disappears, but I'll tell you on the long run. Alex Tuck is the guy that he could be a franchise. Player with this team and a superstar now in his fourth season, because he has a tremendous combination of everything. You wanted a hockey player. He can score goals. He gets assist. He now has a tough guy that can that can fight when he has to, and that was showed in the last brown. If I'm if I'm fastest, he's fastest can be, too. He's writing the fastest he is. He's He's definitely He's the best athlete is the best athlete on the Golden Knights Knights have a lot of great athletes, but I want to say this run. If you're the Colorado Avalanche right now, you have to be extremely concerned. First of all, your coach called you out. The game before called out the top line for effort. That's incredible to me. I never thought we would see that number one number two. You have Marc Andre Fleury, who for the most part was a brick wall yesterday. He's been fantastic. You know, in Game one. Obviously, he wasn't even a net. But Fleury's been unbelievable. He's been a brick wall. You are losing the physical battles. If you're Colorado, the 50 50 pucks in the neutral zone. You're losing those battles. That's number two number three. The nights are getting more quality opportunities. That's not even up for discussion. They are Uh, Colorado yesterday. Looked like the Vegas called the Knights of Game one. In this series, Colorado looked like the team that was depleted. They looked like the team that had just gotten out of a seven game series. There's no excuse if you're Colorado. You got out of that first round. Easy, right? You've been resting. Oh, yeah, but yet it was the night that looked like they had much more energy and they were more crisp. Colorado was not Chris with the park. They turned it over. They made bad mistakes. More penalties. I'm just if I'm a Colorado Avalanche fan, which, clearly I'm not. I'm rooting for the nights. But if I was and if I'm in that Colorado locker room right now, I'm searching for answers. The Knights of Outplayed you, for the most part, the last three games, so If I'm the nights right now, I'm saying to myself, I don't want to change anything. Keep doing what we're doing. If I'm Colorado, I have to make adjustments. I don't know what adjustments those would be. I think a lot of it has to do with just a little bit more emotion and and and speed. I just think they were embarrassed yesterday. Well, you're you're right when you diagnosed and said the nights Won the battle in the neutral zone. Oh, absolutely won the battles in the neutral zone, And that's so much of hockey Now what? What could happen for Colorado? They still have Philipp Grubauer and net in last night's game was an aberration. And for him as a goalkeeper. And they have two of the final three games at home. And that that yes, yes, Things can change and turn around quickly in a hockey game. Let me tell you one of the classiest things I saw last night. In the game was no. Well, the Tuck fight, Okay, That was sort of cool. I like cut getting, you know, protecting himself and getting into that fight with Burakovsky. But after the game The night state after if you on the ice for another minute and I taped it on my phone, and I put it up on. I think I put it on my Facebook page, but anyway, it And they they gave a stick salute to the fans like you would do at the end of a season type of thing, or at the end of up Now, this is only Game four. This is the but they all stayed on the ice robin letter went out there and started skating around and everybody had their sticks in the air. And it was a cool moment to to Give back to the fans and to say thank you fans for showing up these last two games and be motivation for us. I thought that was a cool moment. It probably wasn't shown on TV if you watch the broadcast But it was. It was a nice moment to do that for a for a minute or so, Yeah, they did it. You know where they were cheering and thanking the fans for showing up and giving their support on a game. I got to tell you on that note on that I agree with you, Ron. And on that note, I have to tell you Normally, I don't say the crowd as much of a factor in sports. It's a slight factors. Certainly home home ice advantage is important, but I got to tell you something, man. T Mobile arena last night was the loudest I've ever heard. I thought it was much louder than Game seven versus the wild, uh, and again sold out crowds. Now everything's back to normal. I think we have a sense of normalcy again in sports, and and you know whether it be NBA golf or whatever the case may be. I agree. I agree. I'm happy that that the Knights did that having a sold out crowd at T Mobile Arena is a huge advantage for the Vegas Golden Knights. And the energy they provided, and I think they feed a lot off for the fans..

"That. Didn't. Get covid nineteen from Bill. Foley. I guess we can talk about data later subjects for another time. But yeah, I'm good I'm good hanging in how about you? Okay. Now, at the point where I've got away for a little bit with the girlfriend and dog with some friends and stuff I have. Laid back chilled kicked my feet up on some Sundays watching football. And now I'm kind of over it and I'm ready for things to start happening again and I'm. Not Prepared for the length of this offseason might be, but they're going to have to live with it. This time around might be a little bit, might be a little bit I dunno I'm kind of in the opposite boat. I feel like I'm ready to kick back. In our, we'll see gold nights always keep us busy right exactly, and we can trade off a little bit because as you mentioned, and you got to go on the luxurious trip to Montana and I did not. So that was extra work for you. But we do to talk about a lot of things that actually dave has done and what we have done and what we have coming up in the coming weeks days months forty that I wanna remind everyone that big old niche podcast is presented by indeed and favor shop drink a favor dot com also could least check out all the written work that I was just trying to plug at Review Journal, Dot Com, and of course, rate resubscribe. Whatever you deprive guests, please do to this one. So the first topic I WANNA lead up with is actually a piece that you wrote Dave last. Wednesday because you talk to the One and only Marc Andre Fleury people can obviously read the full story on the website but figured it'd be Kinda good to hit the highlights because we may talked about Marc Andre Fleury once or twice on this podcast and written about him in a story or twelve first of all he's had a heck. Of A couple months I mean his goalie coach basically ends up ultimately leaving the organization they bring in new goalie coach in they have a new coach come in of course in January than there's the pandemic he gets off to late starts training camp ultimately loses a starting spot to robin letter before the second round the Vancouver canucks his Asian fires off the infamous towards backstabbing tweet their endless trade rumors after that I now, finally as we kind of discussed on previous episodes Kelly. mckerman the manager comes out and says, actually no flurry is staying put in Las Vegas he and Robin Leonard are going to be our goal tender's next year. It's a lot and I'm sure it's been a lot for Marc Andre Fleury to process. How did he seem to be handling it all when you talk to him Dave while I think the word relief that he used was a very interesting choice of words and I think it was pretty telling to be quite honest. You know obviously he's happy. Honestly. It said in previous interview that you know he wanted to returning the for trade in all sorts of things but I think the fact that he was relieved to be coming back that he knew the trade rumors are out there that they were obviously talking about him that you know with Rob Reiner coming aboard in everything that kind of happened. Needs Future was in doubt that that it was tenuous and he wasn't sure whether he was gonna be a golden night again whether you know his performance against Dallas in the western conference. Final was gonNA be the farewell. Obviously, in he said, this is the Last. Few weeks last month it's been stressful and for him to be back I clearly, he's happy and I think it will be interesting to see how it all works out. I mean come talk about. That in general but just the word relieved the relief and the feeling that he felt I. Just I, just think that was a very telling phrase. Then there's a lot of interesting things I thought for both said in kind of left unsaid first of all as he said, he's happy that he didn't have to basically move and pack up this things in the middle of a pandemic in that he's back in. Las. Vegas Soy obviously. By that as you're saying that I'm sure you know in his heart of hearts, he didn't. WanNa. Leave the organization. He didn't WanNA can pack up and move his family to a new market but I am curious tally feels ultimately when it gets to be. The first couple of games of whatever this season looks like and he's watching from the bench and one thing that you know he didn't necessarily say like, yeah, I'm thrilled to be a backup goaltender at this stage in my career ultimately at the these, he's still excited about the fact that he can keep kind of climbing the all time wins list and things like that. So you know do ultimately think he's kind of happy and content with the role that he might end up playing on this team or is it maybe not as focused on that right now tap to kind of take a moment to breathe. Yeah I mean I think Think he's happy to be back in Vegas because he likes it here I think in general he likes team in the organization that you know I guess maybe that stretch it is point in terms of his relationship against something else will get into but I think all things being equal unless he was going to go back like it's Burger, something which I you know we talked about this before that was a very difficult proposition. So unless that was going to happen I think he wanted to be here. So I, think he's happy to be back in and all of those sorts of. Things but again, like you mentioned, what's GonNa happen during the season if he's playing well in Robin Lender start, I don't know that he's entirely happy with his role in his situation and he didn't express that I, don't expect him to ever really come out and say you know yeah, I'm not happy with this or if he does, you know it would be you know in a in a certainly safer. You know more thought of context and all that I think we'd be more careful about his words her or something like that but I just think in general the situation. Is Probably not ideal and I still feel like he wants to be here but he wants to be the starter it. He knows that Robin Lin or sign and pizza favourite him in the playoffs in that right now at least going into it Robin Leonard is GonNa be the number one guy now clearly with all of this being said, you know there's also the understanding that if in win the season begins whether it's January first whether it's like mid. January or February I is bill fully as maybe suggested that it might be that it's GonNa be condemned schedule. There's GonNa be a lot of back to bats and Probably going to be a lot of opportunities that present themselves. For. I. Lay and I would expect him to get started. Does that mean it's going to be fifty fifty probably not does that mean it's going to be you know like a? Two to one I guess ratio were were Leonard gets to everyone I don't know maybe it's somewhere in between that. You know maybe it's a sixty forty, maybe it's fifty, five, forty, five type of split based on the schedule. But all things being equal part of the feeling that I got from the interview is that this situation seems like everybody's just gonNA swallow hard and put up with it for a little bit in. That it's going to be a unique scenario, a unique season again, and if they all have to. Sit around the Campfire in roast marshmallows and get along that. They're going to try to do it temporarily but I don't think anybody feels long-term like smarter. We're GONNA play out both years of his contract. This way I think anybody sees that in the future.

"Could just hear our conversations. But I I just can't even imagine what your response was to this when I saw Marc Andre Fleury starting Game one of this series of the Gold Knights versus the Stars. So he gets the start over and over Robin Lennar, and he makes 24 saves. What did you make of the goalie? Switch up with the Golden Knights? And do you expect this to stay? Or is this Robin Leonard's team and hiss Siri's moving forward? And I have no idea people deported doing. You know, I was. I was surprised to see Marc Andre Fleury. Game one. But when you think about it, Robin Leonard did just played back to back games that were pretty intense. He had a decent workload. I know he didn't have a ton of saving that Vancouver series, but the one that he had, especially in Game seven were pretty intense. Really? I think pizza before they made the mistake of Naka with Marc Andre Fleury for games sex like I think that's what I would have done if I were him and then done Leonard seven. Mark Randall, Terry one, but look This is Robin Leonard's team has been the better goalie. I think you know, they have to just keep both engaged so that they could be fresh at any time. Kind of like what we're seeing with the Islanders, where they went from Simeon Varlamov Thomas Christ, just to give them some freshness and write a lot started struggle. We're talking with Emily Kaplan, ESPN NHL analyst Emily I live in the Tampa Bay Lightning household. So needless to say, last talkie season was very painful for us this year, while it's been a little stressful of spit a little bit more exciting..

"Fleury Spoke about this. We don't have the clip of this right now, but did acknowledge that he is he has had his agent taking down and hinted that is Agent We had the beach of 14 or 15. That's how long you been playing hockey. Has apparently been the one that posted his him in show Marc Andre Fleury, not make any friends within his team that keeps on winning with Leonard net, not making any friends with his goalie, obviously with and his coach Pete before, and frankly, another shut out last night after this image Now for Robin Lehner has Marc Andre Fleury, probably riding pine for the rest of his bubble postseason run for Vegas. Could you imagine if you're on that team making a run in the face of your franchise thinks he's getting stabbed in the back and gets posted on Twitter. How unbelievable is that? I have to channel my inner Ilya Bryzgalov. Why? You have to be some man. It's only hooking. I can't believe it more country. Fleury was the face of the franchise. When they went all the way to the Stanley Cup final. In their expansion year, he was the hero between the pipes for the Vegas nights. And so now he gets bumped out of the pipes. And now how do you give your agent? Full green light over your Twitter account to do something like that. And if that was his agent, why would his agent do that? That's the worst look ever for his client. That's awful. The team is winning. They're not only winning, they're rolling their destroying everybody. Hey, look, all I know is this That's a worst agent than me being bogus. Is agent trying to find him gigs? True? Terrible, terrible job. So, yes. That was where we go away with the goal of the day And the story of the day from the Vegas Golden. How somethingto watch. Okay, all right. "Wow and what? I what I was thinking was man. What if he could have done this? Fifty Years Sooner And I was thinking about all the wreckage that caused in his life relationships and all of that stuff and and and so you know that vulnerability piece is the most important piece. Yeah because we're volubility. Does it creates safety. And then when you have safety that's when the magic of healing happens and so the more vulnerable bull we are in telling our own story. The more creates safety right right. And here's a guy. So we did a conference in Calgary and we had about one hundred people in the room and it was a trauma healing. Full Day. Yeah and this guy stands up and he says. I want everybody to know that I've never felt more safe in my whole entire life and he said I've been carrying this around for many many years and I want everybody to know in the audience that I molested my sister all for five years. You know what happened? Women who were in the room. Who were molested by their brothers got up and went over and embraced this guy. Wow tell me that's not healing. That's like the ultimate healer healing. And you know me and Cam who I wrote the book with where Co Facilitating the state. We looked at each other and we were dislike. Oh my God that could have been the only moment it did. It did it. Did it be a whole day thing anymore? Could have been a ten minute segments. What about enough. It was unbelievable. Wow when you create that safe space like shit happens that you just can't explain. Yeah and and you know that's why that's why I love air because you know he. He gets that piece right right. Yeah in most of the people that are in the alliance you know we we get. That piece is that you know. We've all spent the majority of our lives living with these secrets and have never been able to fully come out and talk about them. Yeah and when we do. The impact is like insane right while that. Yeah it's because you know speaking on my sexual abuse. It happened from my cousin. My adopted cousin His father my mom's brother had passed away and his mother was no longer fit to be a single mom. So I- parents adopted my three cousins. Not knowing that all three A had been sexually abused as well and it was the eldest of the three. That did it to myself and it lasted for two two and a half years. How many times throughout that? I don't know exactly. I just have clear images sights. Sounds a sense by says. Remember in go there in a flash of a moment writes Do you honestly I kind of lost where I was going with this. I haven. This happens I got a real quick what I what I would want for myself because this is going to lead into a question I have real quick is I would love to see my cousin today. I would love to take his hand. I'd love to give him a hug and have a conversation with them and see how he's doing. Have you had that moment with your abused or have you? Yes you have out and can you just talk very indirect way okay. So five years ago I said it attention that I wanted to start working in the prison system. Not really knowing why I wanted to do it other than I was curious. Right so that has come to fruition and I've been to twenty-five prisons now while I work with inmates and so one day I showed up at this prison outside of Winnipeg called Stony Mountain penitentiary. It's very famous place and it's a maximum medium and minimum security prison and while I was writing the the second book. We talked about forgiveness right and of course. I was like no fucking me that ain't going to happen and he's like no. I just want you to think about it and I was like okay. I can do that so anyways I got four hundred of the baddest dude on the planet in my audience right murderers rapists child molesters bank robbers. You name it. We're having this incredible conversation about Trauma Mental Health and addiction right. Because the guys in prison you know I have fifteen layers in my story. These guys got forty fifty sixty seventy layers of trauma from their child. Yeah I get it while you guys are here how you end up here right so anyways. We're having this incredible conversation and I see this kid in the very back road. He can't even sit in this chair like he's fired up a wants to talk about something so I call on. Kids stands up exactly like eminem. The rapper okay. Got The flat cap tattoos from his neck. Alway down to his feet you know. And he's you know he's a coupe right. Yeah so the first thing out of his mouth he says Theo Fleury says you're my hero. I was like Whoa okay. Where's this going? And he said as you can see he said I'm not the biggest guy in the world and you know the biggest hockey player right. I always battled and he said I used to be really great hockey player and he said when I was fourteen years old he said I got involved in the wrong crowd. Lisa started selling drugs and he said I've been in jail ever since then. He says you'll never guess who I was with in Grand Cash Alberta. I don't know were you with. He said I was with Graham James. I'd abused me. He was in jail with my abuser and he said Theo Fleury says 'cause you're my hero. He said my soul intent while I was in that prison with this guy my abuser. I was GonNa beat the show for you but he said Graham is very heavily guarded because everybody wants to beat the shit out of the sky around. We said I waited. I waited and I waited and I waited and he said I finally got my chance. He said the guards left him and I went into his room and wasn't there so I started searching around. I went to the left side of the bed. He was there. Walk around to the right side of the bed. Mary was curled up in a ball in the fetal position in the corner of his room and in the kids said to be said I didn't do anything you and I said to the kids. I said you're my hero for not anything and that was the moment when I realized that I actually started to forgive myself him. Yeah GET SOMEBODY. Who's curled up in a ball in the fetal position? They're in pain. L. Scores are suffering. I guess what I'm not going to prison sharing my experience strength and hope right and it was just like. Wow Universe is working in my life than CRTV. Crowd is working in my life. It's it's it's crazy because I you know against speaking on the sexual abuse that I experienced from my cousin I was. I was in Norway plan on a three or four months ago and I was talking about forgiveness. Exactly what we're talking about here in. I had forgiven him but because I needed that. Forgive into move on for myself each the forget himself for himself so I had a message. Somebody reached out to me after and said Jake. Is this how you know? You've you all sexual abuse predators. Are you know 'cause he's like because I as a fucking Masha? I would want to rip his head off the stand that side as well because I would imagine one point my life. I was probably there too but me. I don't need to forgive him or anybody. I need to forgive him for myself for my own journey from my own healing. It has nothing to do with him. He is out in his own life. And that's not my problem. It's not my issue. My issue is me and I forgive for me. You know So I think that's just a powerful example in store you had to share their I mean heck I feel like we could probably go on talking forever. I typically don't like my podcast. They go too much longer than we're currently at So again if there is anything that whether it be a book or a podcast or anything what is one thing that you believe all people. I'm at some point in their life. Should should listen to watch or do I think when you surrender. You know I did that. September eighteenth two thousand and five. I hit my knees and you always say the day I asked for help today that I saved my own life. I knew I couldn't do this on my own. That I did need help. And I did. Need other perspectives. I need other opinions. I needed I needed relationship. Yeah and like we talked about earlier. You know the one relationship that I neglected was the one with myself and when I repaired that relationship everything else seemed trivial and But you know what's funny is I. I do often take take it back right in. So I have to go through the process of re surrendering line because you know And always say I'm not that evolved yet. I'm a work in progress on on the outside. It might look like I have everything. Together and life is great and Saul UNICORNS and rainbows. And you know but it's not and and I think that because once you start peeling the layers of the onion off you know there's there's even a smaller layer under the top layer in how yeah and right. Yeah and you never know when that's going to present itself sometimes it will and you'll let it go by but eventually you know those lessons always come back and and you know if you can take that negative experience that happened to you in. Turn it into a positive. Then that's what it's all about now and ultimately helping other people is how you're gonNA. He'll love that I'd say one big takeaway to anybody listening. Is that once you go down this path on to not focus so much on the things that you're losing. Let's focus on what we're gaining and through the work of the self love and self healing. You're gaining yourself and there's nothing more valuable in your own life. Then you in every relationship you get into it at any point in your life as always going to be a reflection of the Inter relationship. We have with our solemn spiritual beings living human experiences. "We're about to get into We try to come at you every Wednesday with the podcast but also the written content helps make this possible. So Dave. What did you think of Marc Andre Fleury last night and the fact they basically saved the nights bacon in a four two win against the Toronto? Maple leafs sick like wasn't it like just one of those moments that you know when it happens. WHOA that's bigger than any other? Save like that was right away. Everybody think everybody in the building building new. That was something different. That was that was a moment. You know you're kind of lucky. I guess when you get to see those they don't happen very often He tends to I guess a few more of those than than most goals. But I think at least for me even though I realize like you know this is a pretty good. Save you Kinda sleep on it and digest it a little bit and you think about the next morning you're like yeah that's pretty pretty good pretty good and you know I mean I happen to think the one on the western conference final was a better save just because I think it was harder also the play offs right in in like without whatever. Obviously I'm a guy but he was like totally wrong-footed completely out of position and somehow got his foot down was able to push off in still dive last night. I was more of the recognizing where the puck was you know and recognize like made a weird balance and that it was on Peten stick and coming at them and just reacting thing in diving. You know that's just instinct. That's just that's just Marc. Andre Fleury is the guy in the playground dies in the pile of leaves. You know. He's just always getting dirty like he. Probably if I don't think they played a lot of basketball at horrific did he was like the guy up in your grill. Like always wanting to stop you. You know that's just how he's wired. He just wants to flop around and do all that stuff. That's what he loves about being a goalie. Yeah he's certainly a different dude and of course a different breed of goaltender soda a set the set the scene a little bit for people who weren't watching last night or have not had their twitter timelines just taken over by this play like certainly certainly mine has a. It's a three two game in the third period nicer trying to protect the lead. Maple leafs winger Ilia Mikheyev shot from the top of the left circle and hit the crossbar crossbar and Marc Andre. Fleury at first does not know where the puck win he kind of looks behind him. He wonders squirted out behind him or their bounced off the crossbar and and behind him and in that split second ounces as you mentioned to Maple Leaf Center nick baton within just flung it back on net and he probably didn't get all of it big. got a a good amount of it for a backhand shot so flurry from the top of his crease. All of a sudden realizes. Oh there's a wide open empty net behind me and a puck coming at it. So he leaps backwards picks the puck out of the air with his glove. Like he's young Ken Griffey junior just patrolling Centerfield and makes the grab keeps the nights ahead and they go on to win four two later tacking on an empty net goal. Certainly the best thing save. I've ever seen gene live flurries agent Alan Walsh who was just slightly biased and all this did call it the save of the century on twitter. I was surprised to hear Golden Knights. Coach Dr Glenn I guess Kinda disagrees with your assessment. He thought it was flurry saves a night. He thought it was the best sade he's ever seen which coming from the guy who has been around the NHL a long long time both as a player and a coach was certainly a striking for me to hear. What did that also just hits you in a really weird way yeah? I was surprised that he was Restored I'm looking for. I guess. So right like he like right away he there was no hesitation with with that answer. He didn't really have to think about it. I don't know if that's just a recent see bias with Char Gland or whatever but I mean and I think he was Kinda like me where you know you let it marinate for eight to ten hours and you watch it again a few times and and you see the way. Everybody's everybody's kind of reacting to it you know you gain a different appreciation for it I mean I think of I mean I got down. The flurry warm hole will like this morning and last night like looking up all his greatest say's ever and stuff like there's a couple. That are just ridiculous. I mean ridiculous. He makes one on a shootout against Daniel Alfredsson where he goes like poke check and then does barrel roll in in like ends up with his glove against a post but he does all on purpose like it's an actual technique. It's like the same thing that hauch accused to do and he ends up like rolling in making this glove save it's unreal. There's a couple other ones like he's got one on lovie. There's one on Jason Blake for Toronto. Actually where are this is the best part. So Jason Blake shoots back in forty makes a glove save and the spotlight comes on like Jason. Blake like they thought it was in as soon as on on a stick they thought it was in so somebody pointing this out on twitter last night. I didn't notice it right away. But if you look at some of the highlights highlights from the broadcast night. Whoever was in the truck manning the little score box at the top? They thought it was in his they. They went to three three and then they actually tried to like undo it really quick and it went to four three and they had to flip back over and put the the score correct back down to three two but but everybody thought it was in. Everybody thought that that shot was in last night. So I mean it's fun to debate though right Giroux one from Masher on the breakaway where he kinda like traps it with his glove. There was another one in that game. Actually that he makes at the end which was very reminiscent of his. Save in the two thousand nine final in the game seven. We're kind of flops. Like a kind of like a dolphin almost like a waterfall. Gully in it makes a save. Like I mean. There's the I'm GonNa actually write about this. So it'll be fun for readers to to check all the stuff but like he's got a handful of of these saves saves just in his two plus years with the nights. Yeah he's a ridiculous athletic in flexible goaltender. They don't see a lot of and that two thousand nine save was actually the one that he pointed out quickly after the game I was like no no no. That's my save of Nick. Lindstrom of course shoots with about a second and a half remaining in game seven of the two thousand nine Stanley Cup. Final so the hall of fame defenseman trying to tie it up for the Detroit Red Wings against the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Penguins and yeah flurry kind of dolphin flops. Over the net makes the save hangland's win the Stanley Cup. That's flurry and Sidney crosby's first of three Stanley Cups together. And so I mean. Even flurry was keen to point. We now like when you WanNa Cup with. Save sorry number one. That's going to be hard to top. I mean I'm sure and I mean the scary thing is like you know he's going to do something something else you know like you know like. That's the weird thing for me. Last night was was in my head. I didn't want to overstate what this what it was because I know he's done this a handful of times so to sit there and like for me to call it like to save of the century and nothing against Alan Walsh. But he's like he's just sticking up I guy. I don't know that it's a savior of the century. You know is it unreal. Yeah but I I guess what I would say is that there's a lot of these boys that are really good. That makes them unbelievable saves. Marc Andreessen happens to make more than most but I think it speaks to the athleticism of the goalies and stuff I mean I actually. I had a conversation with a flurry few days ago. And one of the things I brought up. was you know kind of his style and longevity and and you know I remember guys Kirk McLean and flurry kinda laughed. He's like he never moved and that was yeah. He current clean used to just come way. Okay I'll play an angle and just stand there at the puck. Hit him like he could play until he was fifty because he was never moving. Never doing anything like Florida's it's just so different. It's a completely different style and there's so many guys like that now. It's just so fun to watch because the cool thing is yeah this is great and yeah blew up the Internet But there's going to be somebody that's GonNa do a week or two weeks or months. You know and might be flurry again. That's what makes us also cool. Is these guys make just unbelievable. We'll stop there so athletic. They're so flexible. They read the play. So well we're bound to see something else. This happened to be you know I guess somewhat unique just because of a dive. I Know Malcolm soon when I talked to him about it. He cited the thing that separates the being able to catch it and dive. That the Griffey you kind of like you pointed out that data him was what really kind of made it special. But it's kind of funny because Sudan actually brought up a completely different save when I asked awesome like. What's your favorite one? He brought up one from two thousand eighteen against the sharks win. Flurry came way out and like made a glove. Save Ivanka tour but did like bill windmill with it to lady milk only. Yeah but but I know man said like He. He's he's like he's got the the best windmill of all time. So I mean it's pretty awesome but I think just like I said the fun part of all this is that is great as this one is or probably going to talk talk about another one at some point with flurry just because you know. That's just what he does. Yeah and he certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down with these saves even as he kind of gets up they yeah I mean thirty four years old. He's not done but he certainly getting toward the back half of his career and is still producing. These highlight reel say's he's also producing just career career highlights for himself Kinda lost all that shuffle over the save last night with the fact that was four hundred fiftieth win last night against the Toronto Maple leafs and only Six other goaltenders have ever had that many wins for his seventh all time now. He's three away from Henrik. Lundqvist was course still playing with the New York Rangers. He's four behind Curtis Joseph which would then if he passes both those guys get him in the top five And the nights really needed it from him last night They had a lot of good. Chances the maple leafs did in the third period of a close game and flurry. Just captain minute and captain minute. And that's coming off of a shutout out against the Calgary flames on Sunday and so it's two straight really good performances from our contract flurry. He's lowered a season goals-against average to two point four nine which is slightly below his career average which is good for him and I think a lot of these. Those things are going to help this save live for a really long time that it was just four hundred fiftieth win. It was such a key moment and say marquee franchise the Toronto Maple leafs and we can now bring this up now. It's going to be remembered as the save that ended like Babcock's tenure with Turtle Maple leafs because the coach got fired today a day after the Golden Knights loss. Now a lot of people saw that Babcock doc was on the hot seat coming into that game. It's no surprise that he was still in the hot seat coming out of that game but it's impossible. I think not to draw the connection between. Oh that shot would have tied. The game had flurry not done something crazy and now because they lost Mike Babcock is out of a job. If there was a great tweet I'm going to give him Credit Pete Blackburn. He said Marc Andre. Fleury has been suspended. Three Games for spitting on Mike Babcock's grave wave which I think is hysterical. That is incredible I mean yeah. It's crazy to think if that goes in and you know maybe the the maple leaf I mean. I know. This isn't a maple leafs blog but her podcast. Sorry I thought they played pretty well. I did too. I just think they got some issues up there that That were because they weren't good enough in that game like I thought pretty much got goaltending that they would want They were right there flurry. Just outduel them for the most part and I think the biggest thing that I noticed the last couple of games with flurry and this he can't wear an a or a C.. Or Anything Mike that a goalie but were his leadership shows up as I think. Especially that Calgary game there was A. I'm gritting my teeth. I'm going to say a dirty word. You know whatever I'm not leading this going any further this five game thing like this is stopping right you you know what now right. It's like the ace mentality of starting pitcher in baseball of like Y- I'm taking this on my shoulders..

"It was like a cliff, dude. I mean, they gave up three or more goals in eleven straight games down the end of the season. And they in that they will seven they lost seven in a row. And it was just when I look at Marc Andre Fleury and Martin Jones. I'm sorry. People vagus, I apologize. Daniel the grotto. I'm picking you picking you. I know you of the year this I know last year, I was up on the big screen. That's not gonna happen. This year. You're not gonna make a fool of me. I think that you're gonna move on. I think added Mark stone. And what the teams done since he came over. It was such a big move. They struggled the beginning of the year. But naturally at the end the going on that Cup run. They went on. And then not having Schmidt to start the year on d it was good. It was it was it was a different team like alriset. So I think Vegas is is is right up there to win the west couple more notes on the goaltenders Boyce mon- Joan safe percentage in the regular season was eight nine six that's. Second to last on goalies who played at least forty six games in three games against vagus. He had a three point six two goals against an eight nine three. Save percentage in the playoffs against Vegas. He had a three point one three goals against an eight nine five cent safe percentage. One shadow down the other end, Marc Andre Fleury at nine one three say percentage in the regular season in two games against San Jose. A one five four bowls against nine five percentage with one shutout and the playoffs against San Jose. He had a two point one four goals against what the nine three five safe percentage. Two shutouts. I know which way I'm going hit if Vegas days out of the box rolls full lines and get the goaltending. They used to for my under flurry. They'll get the same results last year, shocks, not in six Vegas and six I'm.

"As far as windsor concern and he's he has three hundred and seventy five career wins all right so he's got a chance i mean he's only thirty three years old so innovativeness stays as competitive as they as they've been i mean this is a guy that is easily you know by next year is going to have over four hundred wins and if he's able to stay healthy five hundred is not out of the equation i mean he's three seventy five to sixteen sixty eight he's got a career goals against average of two fifty eight to save percentage of nine twelve i mean and in the postseason he's been very good as well he's got seventy two playoff wins in his career you know he has been a a real special player for sure in in this ron for the vegas golden knights and in his career so i i think you gotta give credit lori is now again as you walk as he bro door but he might end up finishing and be looked upon as better as henrik quist or jonathan quick i certainly has more hardware than some of the other really good goaltenders in this league so yeah marc andre fleury certainly would be in the conversation and i think he would probably be someone that you could argue all time would be maybe in the top fifteen top ten goaltenders of all time jake says hi don what's the likelihood the jeff skinner and or justin falk will be traded from carolina reason why ask this that i read that they are generating interest in general manager don wa dell has been called about them well it really depends on what they plan on doing faulk was a guy that they almost traded during the course of the regular season so i would think falk could very well be a guy that can get traded skinner's very interesting because he has such a potent guy if you want to be competitive that's a tough thing to give up but if i'm don waddell and i'm taking over a team and i've got an owner that's very much involved i have to find out what that owner.

"To win at home vegas is five and one in the stanley cup playoffs on home ice and the only game they lost on home ice wasn't overtime to san jose on a controversial goaltender interference call which i believe is the right call but the fact is that the only blemish on their resume at home when everybody else is struggling at home natural lost three games in the series against went back winnipeg dropped important games i at home you're seeing what's happening with washington with seven wins on the road already the season vegas is the one team that's been able to win five of their six games in a chance to take a stranglehold of the series of they can win again at home tomorrow so should be a lot of funds or on top of it eight o'clock tonight we will get back to the eastern conference final game four between the capitals and the lightning all right let's hear from you at donald gregg a hashtag game misconduct forever t h says what will be flurries rank and all time goalies if he can pull off the stanley cup on top of his career overall well that was the question i had asked earlier is he wa i mean certainly he'll have the same amount of cops but you know obviously murray one some of them as well even though he he's name if the vegas golden knights wind flurries name will be on the stanley cup four times but probably only two in which you want to say that he was literally responsible for if they do win but listen he's in the conversation in nobody's gonna touch brodeur as far as regular season wins but you know marc andre fleury is going to be a guy that is going to be right up there you know you take a look at his resume.

"Great to see all the hockey also honestly this is tough now you could just easily just hand the award over to george mcphee the architect of what is one of the most amazing stories and sports in the twenty first century vegas golden knights but kevin chevrolet off did a terrific job building this winnipeg team team that had not made the playoffs a team that only made the playoffs once since they came back to the league from atlanta not had won a playoff game to be the second best team league and the move to bring in stazzone was just spectacular and he has been a major reason why winnipeg is in the conference final so he is certainly the architect of probably the second best story in the league what winnipeg's been able to do and of course steve is herman the steel of the sense when he's able to get get drouin away and find surrogate you have on the blue line and he is was masterful as well so three really good candidates for the general manager of the year but george mcphee along with gerard galant who i think is the odds on favorite to win the jack adams trophy for the coach of the year would not doubt if you see a sweep of the awards for general manager and head coach of the year for the vegas golden knights it just you know we've talked about it before why is it happening was there a break and all that we've we've outlined that a million times but the fact still remains there are thirteen players on this vegas roster that are having better years than they did the year before you were having guys like hala and marsha show and certainly carlson all having career years riley smith having a career year and we can say well they land at a stanley cup caliber goaltender marc andre fleury in that certainly is wreaking benefits right now but remember he suffered the concussion he had been out they had what five different goaltenders and they still found a way to win the pacific division so and in an era or a year or it looks like it's almost impossible.

"To preserve the victory and then they get the empty netter from arthur show now had two goals on the night and he has just been unbelievable for them as he has seventeen points in these playoffs which is absolutely ridiculous to just so many stars on the golden is where to begin but they have the two two one series lead because a marc andre fleury he was unbelievable thirty three saves and a lot of them really tremendous quality and i started thinking about this because when you start listing the great goaltenders in the national hockey league you know here because i do the rangers and doing the show out of new york henrik long name certainly comes up jonathan quicks got a couple of stanley cup so he's obviously going to be in the conversation but brodsky's been an excellent regular season goaltender with a vesna trophy he gets mentioned obviously and rightly so vassilev ski starting to get some attention hopi had that amazing record breaking season a couple of years ago and he certainly is in the conversation among the elite goaltenders in of course map murray's won a couple of cups as well for pittsburgh which made marc andre fleury available to vegas in the expansion draft but i sometimes think mark andre does not get the credit he deserves because of what's happened most recently goes to the stanley cup final in two thousand eight ten years ago they come up short against troy he gets his revenge the next year and you remember that tremendous game seven in the had and detroit no saves that he made late to preserve the victory and win the cup and i think he got his recognition then but he started to suffer the concussions and he started to really struggle if you remember pittsburgh crosby had his issues as well and pittsburgh just seemed to be one and done every year and it just looked like i marc andre fleury overrated iran into a cup big deal but of a compiler in the regular season over four hundred wins he loses a job to matt murray but we tend to forget that last year he did win ten of those sixteen playoff games he may not have been the goaltender.
