Southridge football's perfect season ends in Class 3A semistate against Danville
"An impressive win for the Danville Warriors tonight over a very good South Ridge Raiders team. No doubt about it. Bob Danville. They're just really, really good on both sides, the football and you know, like South Ridge had much of the season. Daniel had a lot of playmakers and It was just too much Danville, And sometimes that happens, no matter what you do the other guy on the other side of the field just better on that night and South Ridge nothing to hang their head about a great season. But Danville just really, really solid. Did they get started to Danville? Start out. Get on the board first and can't get ahead. Stay ahead kind of ball game. Well, Daniel did score to make it seven Nothing. Those South Ridge, then answer back on the very next possession with a five yard touchdown run by Carson, the house to tie the game. It's seven within Danville scored a couple of touchdowns. Heading into the locker room at halftime to go up 20 to 7 at the break and kind of, you know, just added on from there, and South just couldn't get anything going offensively. Even with the playmakers we've talked about all season long. It was just really impressive Danville defense of effort and they scored a couple of touchdowns in the second half. To make that final margin. 32 7. So that let's go back to that Flory there at the end of the half. What spurred that for the Danville? They had a flea flicker type of play on a double reverse. They pushed back the quarterback of pain, and he fired it down The field, got him inside the 10 yard line, so they punch it in from there, then get another stop defensively and move the foot ball down the field with their running back. Ethan Dutra hey, was just unstoppable on that fullback spot. He carried the ball 22 times for 172 yards for Danville. Usually he's their short yardage back. In the things that I've watched heading into the game, But he just carried Southridge defenders all night long, and he really was impressive in that little two touchdown Flory once they got the ball inside the red zone. Alright, so second half again, You know it's hard to spot a team like Danville that much going into halftime and you know, it's just all too is your game plan when you're playing from behind. No doubt about in southwards. Traditionally is that trouble coming from behind because they're more of a running type a team and it just seemed like Danville had 18 players instead of 11 on the defensive side of football against South Ridge. They turned him over on south of his first possession, coming out of the break on a fumble and had a short field and again just kept that margin in a comfortable, Ah, pace there, and it was just too much to overcome for South Ridge tonight. What a great year, though for south rich. I mean, if you would seriously at the beginning of the year if you thought you would still be doing games on semi state Friday, uh, You would have taken that opportunity. I think so, Bob, you know they southwards when those programs that reloads every year, but it seemed like they lost a lot of great players some last year, And of course, we've talked about it before. They've been success up to three A with basically a to a roster, and they would never use that. And it's right. Not an excuse, But you know what? Football? That's just the way it is. You know, you have a short roster compared to other strong three teams, but Pain on to make your questionnaire and my answer shorter to your question. I didn't anticipate them going on a run like this, even though they are a really good program. It's just a really, really nice season that we had a season to begin with. And to see it. You know, progress like this has been great for South or just program and Justin, outstanding season. Yeah, And you know what it Scott being is one of them. One of the good guys. Jamie Comber, The damsel coach won the war. The impressive young coaches in our state. And it just two solid, solid guys into programs with rich tradition. As you point out, yes, southwards. We know about them, and I'm not that familiar familiar with sandal, but not just on the surface, but you know they've got good athletics there and deal with the warrior program. And, you know coach coming over from Western Boone, where he had great success and help Western boom beat South Ridge a couple of years ago in the to a semi state. I'm impressed with the way Coach Homer's got Danville going here is the head into that championship game with
Can the Pittsburgh Steelers Go Undefeated?
"Are see. We are forced to listen to quarterback so often in the world of nfl analysis. So i just wanna thank you for helping lead. The db revolution espn daily. Why does this happen. You guys finally invited me or it's your time man your old team. The steelers are right now. Undefeated and that is surprising. Let's be honest to a lot of people. So how surprising is it though to you. I think it's it's. It's more surprising when you actually watch the games It's obviously surprising. Anytime team goes through more than half of the season and their undefeated. But when you watch the steelers play the second half against tennessee titans even watching them to send the backup quarterback gets the denver broncos or be dominated upfront defensively the way they were against the baltimore ravens but still be undefeated. I think that's the fascinating part is not just that they've managed to win. Every game is just inside of those games. you seen opportunities for them to lose. But they've made the place that they've to. I mean you can even look at a match up against the dallas cowboys and say you know gary gilbert and the dallas cowboys may have deserve to win that game. But that's what this lied about was going to come down to one possession games. He's gonna come our critical situation though football moments and at least it does far. The steelers have found answers to any questions in those important moments. And this is why you sit undefeated. So how does this defense stack up. Ryan versus the steeler defense. Is that you played for that. You helped lead. What are the holes in this defense. You know what. I don't think they necessarily have holes in the sense of of those things being a negative right. He's looking to make a rush. The passer with just for the obviously can bring bring pressure make fitzpatrick ultimate playmaker on the back end and i think they have really good corners. But they don't have that great court but when you all those things together i think you get one of the top defense in the league especially when it comes to pressure and turning the ball over we. That's what football is right. Like people aren't going to hold you. Thirteen points like we did wait. Like that's not the ball we play it. You can't intimidate people like i would get fined and kicked out of every game. Five play james harrison fell six million dollars a year. You can't do those things anymore. But if you could get the ball which the pittsburgh steelers do know that really helps and that's why this team world season. Well i wanna get into the difference between playing football then versus now especially because offense is king these days as you implied right there so the defense is the big reason. The steelers are undefeated. The offense though i mean they've been relatively relatively average so can eighteen built around defense. Like the steelers are ryan. Can that sort of team win in the modern nfl. I believe they can. I believe they can. Because if you look at the individual weapons offensively like they are extremely. good I think you you're missing that one running back piece but we look at pool. Smith schuster the johnson. Eric ebron like that's a skill set or skill position that a lot of teams would love to have especially teams not named became the city chiefs. And so if you can do all those things on the outside like they can. You can score points. Also look at this team at critical moments though. Think about tennessee. Titans having to get a drive late in the game even though been was a reception late like they were able to the ball greg band. There's gonna prevail on the road. The pittsburgh steelers had the hold on dearly man. Hold on they do for the baltimore. Ravens they score in the second half and they were able to do that then back pop. For the end zone touchdown pittsburgh and all the out cut to the chase. Claypool man play. It just seems that all the critical point of the season it's offense has been able to produce down to like. I said the dallas cowboy game last week obviously exploiting a very bad bengals defense and well in a team like the cat city chiefs right and i say okay. One had the baby stopped him have to limit big play. The pittsburgh steelers can do that with rush. Plays on the back end right. Play play man when they need to stop the big click now. Let's go offensively the only time we've ever seen patrick mahomes lose. He was in the playoffs. He was standing across from another super bowl. Winning quarterback that was tom brady and rothlisburger. Isn't tom brady but he can do. Some of those things in important moments. And we've seen of do those. And so i think this team can most certainly went into as you mentioned chase claypool his nickname if catching on with you but maple tron. He comes from canada. He's this guy. I didn't know anything about. I wonder if you did because he has seven touchdowns in his first nine games as a pro. What has he brought to this offense. I mean you look at what this league is turning into. Because of the lack of physicality it's a it's a size speed league right like it's starting to they used to be. It didn't matter what happened in the shorts olympics at the combine like if a fast it didn't necessarily mean it was going to translate do can do certain things there did me but it's starting to mean that at the wide receiver position because of the rules. Like if you could flat out run you're gonna probably get open because they can't hold you. You pass five yards. They can't hit you across the middle play putin critic who has great hands he tracks the ball. Well he has a big body and so when you have all those things just translate we've seen chase claypool. You know kind of come out of nowhere. They just kinda have a knack for finding people that sit what they want to do and utilizing them in a way. That truly helps the team chase. Claypool is just another example of that
Chicago Bears Hampered By Same Offensive Issues As They Lose To Minnesota Vikings
"Morning before bears quarterback Nick Foles goes down with an injury. Here comes the opening kickoff of the second half of Soldier Field. "five yard" Discussed on Cat Scratch Reader
"Like swarms football. Kamera gets it close to the first down. Great job by the defense. Swore to the football and getting it down without letting a break tackles gate, a fourteen I doubt saying. Right tat with the great form tackle the bring down Alvin Kamara and that's a seventeen yard gain on first down. Exactly right entity fence. It's so are under state like you, really don't know. What's happening? Played a play on the radio until after the plays over near the time to kinda like it stuff summarize. And this crowd is loving it as they're all booing because they're they're on the five yard line. And then you Jane shout something incomprehensible to Nick says it. I think I've told you like the last one red zone scoring opportunity Vic. Mic. Mix was still describing the previous play in Eugene Robinson does yellow like as a reaction to the play that was actually happening live now. Jesus christ. This is my official job application for the three of us to be the the Panthers commentators on Sundays because I feel like we do a decent job could be worse might be Jason Witten and booger McFarland. This is true. Very true. I've never listened to them so much because I usually have Monday night football on background or whatever. But listening to them actually do the play by play was I understand why they're always like trending on Twitter when they're when Monday Neff. Really bad like. Witness the really bad. When Booker isn't too terrible. He just he's at the player haters ball. Like, he hates everything. He's light was. I mean, he was hating on everybody. Like, you got to make that tackle. That's why you're in the NFL. I'm like damn you hate on everybody. Boettger? You aren't even that good of adventure? Tackle, relax. I love people. Do that thing that booger? Does a lot of where they say like if you want to be in this league, you have to make that tackle is. If the dude was just like, I mean, I thought it'd be okay. If I just let the guy go it's like, obviously knows that like. Yeah. And it's not as if the ball carriers. Also, a professional athlete getting paid millions of dollars like. It always kills me. When people have that take where it's just like, oh, you have to do that better. It's like. That was what their that was their intent. It just didn't work. Let's let's talk about that part of things like why didn't work not that. It didn't..

"But while we rewarding defense, which is giving up ninety nine and a half yards. The ability to get the ball back just because somebody was foolish enough to leak to to hold it out for the pylon or somebody just accidentally let it go. And I think and then I'll get number three. But I think you said it you said foolish enough to reach the ball out and protect the football. And that's not the argument for the. Who'll look you're trying to score. I get that. I get that. But here's the thing. If if a think about it the other way think about at the five yard line the offense is at their own five yard line and they fumble. And that ball goes out of bounds at the half inch line. Okay. They're going to get the ball at the half inch line. If it hits the pylon. It's going to be a safety is that on fair. Because it's the same concept. It is the same concept. I guess it's the same concept, but it's different in the fact that the defense is getting rewarded for player. That's trying to make a big offense of play after they've given up more likely than not a large enough amount of time for their for their backs to be against the wall. And I understand that this is kind of apples and apples. But I'm talking about an offense of team that's going into score. Right. And so suddenly they're making a aggressive play to score. And because of two inch difference. They're losing the football. When you're saying. And you're you're other argument is that because the defense has allowed the offense to get all the way down the field. And now, we're rewarding them, and but what if what if the the the offense the the other team through interception and the defense returned it to the five and now New Orleans just starting first and goal at the five. And that play happens. We'll the defense didn't do anything. Right. It's still the same rule. And I think that's that's that's the whole thing. Again. It's it's the end zone, and I get it. It's a big penalty. It's you lose the football. But the thing is if you fumble if you fumble the ball into your own end zone. There's only two things it's either a touchback or or it's a touchdown. Right. There's no there's no do overs as it same. Same the other way. Right. It's either a safety or or it could be touchdown. Did you? Let's just talk about last night alone. Think that ball definitely went through the end zone. I don't know. And that the other part of it is that is that the ball looked like it may have crossed over the pylon. And that that is review -able they looked at it. They couldn't tell. But again think about that play last night, and I'm gonna oppose you the question because there's another there's another part of this. And we can't lose sight of the fact that the rule is consistent simple..

Well, Tom, you know, I I I thought that culture has been going very aggressive game the right here. He's going to he wants to go. He wants to go into very least fourteen to three and a half. And so the first two calls a Representative of that. I think. He doesn't want to have a mullets turn the ball over deepened. His no, they don't wanna make a mistake at this point. He beat the defender off the line of scrimmage and then with his speed. Big big huge play. Now, it changes thing less than a minute to go. Aaron Rodgers thirty forty to two hundred eighty one yard touchdown not satisfied, though, close to an L. Yeah. Doesn't feel great nonetheless play you know, that. Nice not to have loss on the record right now. But disappointing you know, we found a lot of ways that one away. Last week where you're on the other side where we had a momentum and found a way to to win a game. We had a ton of chances disappointing the way finished. Going into the game. But that feel good about my rehab this week, you know, the guys in the training room. Do a fantastic job. Coming ready to play felt good yesterday. Practice new the adrenaline would kick in. Oh, good about where that's adding not sure where my status will be practice next week. But feel good that I was able to make it through the game just disappointed with the last couple of plays mind. "Did away with the wedge years ago because that was a dangerous play we'll have to see what the united states called the unintended consequence of this you know when they when they decided to move the touchback to the twenty five yard line to to encourage teams not to run the ball is the end zone what started happening is they train the kickers to to have the ball gun come down to two or three and then figuring they can hold them before they get to the twenty five so it actually in a sense increase the kickoffs i with some teams i mean the returns against some teams because the kick is a really good at kicking it high and kick in far and making sure go in the end zone where that was not the intention of the role so would the changes that were made last week we'll just have to see what happens like i said richard i think there is some sentiment to just getting rid of it and and i think there's satistics have shown that it is the most dangerous play with guys running full steam an equations being so violent what they're doing now i think we'll cut down on it but the bottom line to this thing and i've sent his forever this is a violent collision sport it's not a contact sports collision sport and they can do everything they can to try to make it safer but but the bottom line to it is that unless they're gonna play flag football play two hand touch concussions are just simply inevitable and i just don't see how they can ever make it safe enough that this is not going to be concerned i made helmet technology all that kind of stuff it'll help replay on the expanded replay.

"The ball to twenty five yard line i could see this coming in the to the nfl because we talked about this when the nfl chains where they were going to have the kickoff originate from in any change where the touched back the to the yard line where would go to we knew this would happen very predictable teamed we're going to get creative there were going to do some boots highkick kind of stuff that magically gets a lot of hang thymine lands about the free argh line forcing the return man to make a move forward will now in the college game okay you might still do a kickoff like that but if the player wants stick any at the free line if you want you'll get the ball to 25 do you think this is going to happen to the nfl before too long after you haven't hough every time we do over a rules discussion here because i know you don't like change and you probably cringed when the nfl made their things to the kick off the last several years i'm not against change as we discussed the baseball million times i admit i don't think anyone's against change if it's going to make something better at this point with kickoff roles college high school nfl doesn't matter what are any of these changes making it better or quote unquote safer because as far as i know the concussion rates haven't changed i'm kickoffs i don't think they were even that bad on kickoff specifically to begin with at this point what what stopping there from to saying just take the bottom twenty the nfl is trying to eliminate or reduce the amount of highspeed collisions the nfl is in lockstep with that so here's the move the empty delay is to make it's not official but i would not be surprised to see this happen coming to an nfl stadium near you perhaps in the future i could see that happening if the goal is to try and make the.
