"I think he completed or attempted like twenty patches. Beanie still Five touchdowns Paints her a team. That i can make some noise. Maybe not a threat but Make the playoffs. A team to to watch out for You're looking for somebody else in the. nfc egos. I'm not going to say the thirty either to be series playoff super threat. But they impressed me. I wasn't really expecting them to play like that on on On sunday against the falcons now the fabrics are in green. Anything jalen hurts exceeded. My expectations wasn't really sure to expect from him. He played pretty well. The whole grand game in philadelphia was was really good. Game will Scored a touchdown on their playoff can worked out. I watched a little bit of that game so meant to channels Arizona cardinals Again you don't want to overreact too much too week. Wind man everything. They did seem to work into pretty. Solid tightened team. I know the titans are replacing. Small offensive staff Notably author smith of course But still i mean. How are the cardinals. Excuse me column. Murray played exceptional channel jones at the season. The today would be not only the deepest per year would be in the conversation for. Mvp by sax four spell booze. Everything he wanted to do he did I'm i don't know if i'm i'm not big cliff to be honest I don't know how sustainable everything they did was but I think they're the team that feel looking for. I think we all think the rams niners and seahawks for degree are all legit threat For another team. I think the cardinals they had the personnel. They got column early. Got the d andre hopkins. They have weapons To get the ball to they have their some defensive talent. And i think i think they really impressed me In that game. And i think that is a team that can mix serious noise. Yeah no i'm with you and you kind of touched on on really all the all the good ones. He stole the spotlight a little bit. But i think. I think this seahawks impressed me a little bit. You know kohl's obviously the colts offense isn't great we've seen carson wits for a long time to know that it's probably won't ever get there with him at the home but noone. That defense isn't a bad defense. I thought the seahawks nearly kind of took away decay. Metcalfe thought russell wilson Ted tyler lockett chris carson roy wrote to handle a lot of that pressure on the moans on their own and i really like gerald ever in that offense deliver. It was a really good player for the rams with tyler higby for awhile and they kind brought him over and that's been a super quiet signing. I picked him up on and fantasy football. Because he's a late round tied in and i was like whatever russell wilson like i mean. How many will this lease those type of titans do the seahawks like pull out of nowhere jacob hollister so. It's like now they actually have a pretty athletic. Like good tight. End like i'll i'll take him in. The fourteenth round has finished football draft but seahawks are good. I mean ev all of those. Nfc west teams just are good man like seahawks the the cardinals the rams and then the who am i forgetting forty niners four hundred right all the teams we just talked about are all nfc west and exam like i don't trust the rams yet. I know that myself crazy because people a lot of people have gone into the super bowl. But like yeah. They'd beat the bears by twenty and yes. The offense did look good but the bears awful awfully simply defensively like across the board. They look terrible. You can't just take away to plays or anything like that. But i mean if you take two of the plays way from. The rams wasn't their offense was gray. I mean one of those touchdowns is completely blown coverage that nobody was insane area code of supercup and then the other one was a good play. Don't get me wrong but it was The band jefferson catchy at. He fell down like three bears defenders surrounding him and thought to touch him. He got the me right. Or i mean it's still too impressive. Plays if they like they. Just it's not give like dallas or tampa bay or even kansas city where they're is going down the field and scoring but i'm with you there. I think they can begin. But i think. I think people were excited for Matt stafford and beyond detroit to where they're already naming him like civil favors super bowl not like and like i guess one of the biggest things is like i really didn't even realize it or think of it but like the pierce defense has gotten not good for a while it was like that's all they had was their defense but like kyle fuller's they're not there anymore they have khalil mack but other than that like they don't ha- you know came hicks still there but i mean they just don't have the like eddie. Jackson has kind of fallen off a cliff like one time. He was viewed as a top five safety in the league. But like they've they've really gone downhill and then the other team that. I didn't mentioned that you talked a lot about. Was the saints. Imagine you can ask them to do any more than they did. Against a good team in green bay in week one You know obviously. Their defense looked great. There james looked really good. Super-efficient looked good and again kind of like we're talking about the rams and maybe some of these other teams like it's not sustainable is jameis winston. Being is that what he barely threw the ball and threw five touchdowns cutting not something that you're like. I think it's the lowest. And i think he had twenty think a saw status the lowest amount attempts to have five or more at touchdown sprite. Obviously week to week. That's not going to pan out And again like green bay looked awful. Aaron rodgers looked awful. Devens awful majors that that was a terrible week for that green bay packers team which every got that could open up a playoff spot. That's something we don't really talk about. We're not really disgusting but like you know of green bay falls out in. i mean. obviously somebody's got to win that division. But you would think the green bay would be in a wildcard hunt and the cowboys don't win the division but when ten eleven games in washington or philly or whoever it is ends up winning the division like that's a playoff spot that we could be talking about opening up if green bay on their own. They're a game. That's kind of where i wanted to go next. Mentioned washington mission philly at mentioned the giants. Let's trust on those games. A little bit Washington loss to the chargers. Twenty two sixteen. I think the chargers are a good team this year. So while you know. I think that was a good loss for the cowboys. I'm not so sure was just too good teams. Playing each other and obviously ryan fitzpatrick got hurt that game so the momentum shifts shifted a little bit there and Did i think thing that stood out to me. The most games that the chargers offense moved the ball really well against with a lot of people think is the best defense in this league and that gives me some some concern for this coming up sunday but it also makes me wonder. Is this washing defense. Not all we thought it would be. Today we're talking about price. Picks which is.

"Went to the podium like this, folks. That was unacceptable performance. We can't throw interceptions at the two freaking yard line or let me back up. We can't get a false start at the two and throw an interception at the seven. We can't have guys running down the field catching passes where we're socially distancing them and no one's around. We can't have a guy laying on the ground after a catch, and nobody touches him down. It's the national F in football. League. This crap can't continue. No, We didn't hear any of that fire. None of it. No. He's very calm yesterday and that shows leadership. Also shows that a man that maybe not really understanding what happened on the field overall like he's picking up the positives and you're supposed to you pick out the positives, but he did mention the negatives, but not as demonstrably demonstrably as you did. Yeah, that's a that's all that he did mention him, but it was almost like as an aside while it shouldn't be in the side, man. That's your football team. You you practice and you've waited all this time for week one. And then you perform that way. The fundamentals is the thing that Eggs me that really gets at me. That touching the player down and just some of the little things that happen. They need to clean up for week two. By the way, it could somebody please return Eddie Jackson to Chicago because the guy wearing the number four jersey sucks. You know one thing I do appreciate about Matt Nagy. Guys. What's that guy's got a glorious tan. I'll tell you what. That guy's got a tan that he worked on this summer. Well, what about the plays? Whatever I've said he's crap for the last three years. I mean, what did you expect for Matt? Not yesterday, but the tan Tan was glorious. Still want to see Andy Jackson's a top five safety in the league Catholic you did Friday. That's how he's paid Daddy. I brought up the money and you set aside from the money. I brought up the money he is considered. That's why they paid him that. He's a top five. Safety. What I saw last night was a guy that shouldn't even be starting. Let alone top five in the frickin league. But that's how he's ranked paid thought of He sucks right now. No question about it. Danny. Gentlemen, we spent the first hour talking about how bad the defense is. This one's dominating defense. I ask you shot or no shot. The defense is officially faded. Show that is a shot. That's a shot and that started last year, so that's not a surprise, right? I'm I'm not surprised by that, disappointed by it because again on the line the names that you know those names will be able to get to the quarterback. There've been too many quarterbacks of the Bears have faced in which they don't get hurried or they don't get sacked, or they don't feel rushed at all. I know that the ball get out quicker and these days than ever before, But the point is, though, is that they're not waiting on the doorstep of the quarterback. That's a problem agree well said. Well, said that turnover bucket. Can you just please leave that thing and Palace Hall? They determine they actually need it. I didn't need it yesterday. No. Did not Danny Gentlemen, that stadium yesterday where the game took place. So far, Stadium in Southern California Cost $5 billion. It is glorious. It is beautiful. It is exactly what the Chicago Bears need. I ask you gentlemen, shot or no shot. In the next decade, we will have a comparable stadium in Arlington Heights. Boy. That's the hope, right? That's the hope. I like to say shot because I don't know, But I've known what was going on behind the scenes between the Bears and Alton Heights in the city of Chicago. I don't know. I hope that's the case. They gave a flashback by the way of all the scoreboards over the years, going back to Wrigley Field back in the thirties and forties, and just how things have been able to evolve into amazing the technology that used to be just the guy just putting up a zero You know, behind the scoreboard like to do, you know, But now it's evolved and so far, Stadium man is so far ahead of a lot of stadiums already makes jury world looks like it's a I guess a half step behind correct already. And the thing for the Bears it wouldn't take five billion to build that stadium because land in Los Angeles Is far more expensive than land in Arlington Heights, Illinois. So 500,000 That way. Little morning. You know, the Rams owners privately funded that stadium. So the answer to this question is no shot because there's no shot. The McCaskeys are going to spend three billion on a stadium. Well, yeah, but you fuck you finance it, like Tom Ricketts paid for the and now they've got lost biblical losses Biblical, but the point is on the stadium. That's all at Wrigley All privately funded. They figured out a way to take out a couple of minority partners. And did they did my man there you go. That kind O smaller. Oh, I beg your pardon? But my point is You can do this. You've got a franchise that with the advent now sports gambling. They're saying it's going to be worth north of $12 billion right now. It's worth four billion. So what about draft Kings Stadium? Right? Well, how much Rivers state they did their partners. You know what I mean? Just have to have a name on their words, their stable, So it's not so much money out of pocket for the owners. How about the armchair nutritionist Stadium? Oh, I love the sound of that. Well, that sounds cumbersome. Come on. That's a mouthful boy, at least when he walked into the owner's box, they'd be like, Why is Aaron Rodgers here? No, it's insulting to me that you know, it's old. He looks terrible. And he's got the 1986 ponytail going. Stop it. Yes. What? Perhaps he ought to worry about his job and getting ready for the season. Then the diva like behavior that that guy exhibited since the season ended. Just worry about your job because you sucked yesterday, Danny. Well, that leads me into my final one gentleman. The Green Bay Packers got thumped by the New Orleans Saints 38 to 3 yesterday. Your boy, Aaron Rodgers only had 133 passing yards. And two interceptions. No touchdowns. I ask you by boys shot or no shot. The Packers already had their last dance. Wow. Oh, boy, actually good one. Yeah, I would say. I would say, uh, shot to that. First of all the whole thing in the last dance with him, saying the last dance is just nonsense. Just stopped. They won one ring. Yeah, Yeah. Yeah. So Yeah. What about your your one ring and you're trying to win a second one? Okay, There's a guy that that really love that documentary. Clearly an Aaron Rodgers. Right? You must have really loved. That was our last dance. I didn't look good as a neutral site game, pal. It was in Jacksonville. Did you hear the report? I think it was glaze, Jay Glazer said. Sean Payton literally went on Expedia Expedia dot com and he went on there and said, Okay, what would be the toughest city for Packer fans to get to Jacksonville, the end of the Earth. No direct flights. Yeah, we're playing in Jacksonville. Yeah. Makes sense. Right? That was pretty much a neutral. I mean, nor leans can't play there for obviously because of the flooding. Everything happened with the Hurricane Ida. And so I get it, but my God And they again. That's a team that was not ready to play. They were not ready to play loved. It absolutely loved indifference from Aaron Rodgers on the sidelines, and I've seen that a lot in his career. Okay. So which fan base is more devastated this morning? The Bears who we all thought they were not going to be good. Yeah, we might be decent. Or the Packers who were talking about We're Super Bowl contenders and got eviscerated. You should feel bad if you're a packer fan, not just for Rogers, but for Jordan Love. Mm. Yeah. Not good. Lindy Infante. Here we come. Here we come bad, bad years. Wait and wake up at Green Bay. Go to a fish fry to bowling alley. The V F W Oh, man. That was not the answer Your questions the Packers Because if this is quote unquote the last dance, and last year that you go see Aaron Rodgers, expected after a better start. That looked flat really flat. 3123323776 will play more and what we want to get to this Justin Fields, Audio. We've got a lot more to get to and Andy Dalton. So you're gonna hear all of that? We're breaking down the Bears debacle in California beating 34 14 be right back Cap and Jay Hood mornings on ESPN 1000, Chicago's home for Sports. Carmen. And your ago I.

"But beyond that, they've had other games where they have done a relatively solid job of No one controls that man, but they've tried to slow him down, chipping somebody on him, doubling him whatever it takes. And if Leonard Floyd writes the game for him, so be it. But Eddie Jackson's away better player and you're giving him credit for show me Show me. I don't I don't I? Where's he been the last two seasons? I guess that's the whole point. This season is a show me season for that of the coaching staff, But a lot of the key players agreed, but he's not a bad the way Danny said it. You have him as overpaid. He and Robert Quinn right now. Based on last year's performance, probably the two most overpaid players on the team. Tell me, I'm wrong. Jimmy Graham Jimmy Grant produced in the Red Zone. He did Count. Check that name. I don't worry about the payment as much of this Are you producing the position that you're and what do you you be? The judge Did Eddie Jackson produced last year? Did not. You can't even saying he's a top five. Safety in the league is basically then saying that the rest of the safety suck because he was not a top five safety last year. He's paid like one, and that's why I bring up the money, but he was not a top five safety last year. Okay, But now you want to jump to his counterpart was back there. No, we're judging Eddie Jackson on Eddie Jackson's play. Let's see it this year. Listen, I like Eddie Jackson. I want him to be great. When they paid him. I thought it was worthwhile. Now. The problem is, he's got to show it. I also don't think the offensive line is as big an issue as you do. I do not think it's a sieve out there. My concern is the defense for this game as the Bears defense for this game. Because Stafford likes to take shots down the field as I mentioned, maybe that could be an advantage for the Bears. Maybe not. I just know that there's a big difference between golf and Stafford Golf was a guy that didn't mind being able to just throw the ball five or 10 yards. And maybe that was frustration for McVeigh to maybe you want to have a big arm like Stafford for him to be able to bold and shape. Here's a question, though. And this is maybe why Jeff likes Stafford and the Rams this year. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Is there anything else there? We're going to see in the arsenal of Stafford that we don't know. 70. You can throw it over the top three quarters underneath. It means he's very crafty. But is there anything else that he could do against this Bears defense where it's like, Oh, man, he's just going to carve him up. I just know that he averaged eight or nine Yards per pass in week one, the last time that the Bears played the Lions. It's tough. He's a good football player, man. He's a really good football player. I just don't think the offensive line is as bad as Danny paints it out. Didn't say it's the worst in the league is a problem. It was a problem all preseason. It was a problem all training camp. They had guys starting on the offensive line in spots. They have never played a game. They had guys undrafted fifth round pick starting on the offensive line. You cannot convince me that Good offense to until they show me. And then oh, by the way, the greatest defensive player in the league is on the other side of the ball. Like, Listen, I get what you're saying that they're competent company doesn't hold up against Aaron Donald He's a great player. I can't dispute that. I just think the offensive line Will be like they weren't actually bad. They were Solid. I'm not telling you. They're going to be spectacular 3123323776 quickly. Tim and Valpo Hatim. Hey, I can give the key to a bear's victory Monday is Aaron Donald having the game of his life? He knocks the red off the head of Andy Dalton Fields comes in and leave the conviction. Well. Look, I don't see I don't. I think Matt and appreciate the cost him. I think Matt has wetted himself to What's best for this franchise is developing that kid because I believe privately unless this thing becomes Trestman like he's got assurances, Dude, you're not going anywhere. You're going to be here to help develop this kid. That's what I believe when the opinions I don't like. I don't ask you to like, you know, not your opinion towards him. 10 from Valpo, Not you. I always like your opinions. It's always good to make fun of No, but Tim's about all right, right? Uh, I'm just kidding, Tim from Valpo. What I'm talking about is his idea that let's get Dalton. Injured. So we get Justin Fields in there don't like that. Clearly you're Justin Fields fanning out of bears fan because even if you don't like Andy Dalton is part of the team, Whether you like it or not. So are you a Justin Fields fan of you over here? Are you actually a bears fan, hoping that bears can win? I don't like I don't like this conjecture that you know that don't need to get hurt, and the offensive line should be rickety and allowed only get hurt. So you can bring Justin fields in because that's what you want. You don't get what you want all the time. The NFL You don't get everything that you want. Root for Dalton root for the Bears to win, not just for fields to play. Agreed. Uh, J. D r guy gets us ready for bears Rams. We'll get back to more of your calls as well. So hang in there. Jeff Dickerson next cap. And.

Jeff Dickerson Robert Quinn Aaron Donald Eddie Jackson Tim Leonard Floyd Jimmy Graham Danny Bears eight Monday Dalton Jeff Justin Fields McVeigh Justin Rams J. D Trestman 10 yards

"Him what he wanted. When i think of generational talents i think about someone like troy palmolive. I'd even ben rothlisberger in that category. And guess what. Ben got paid. Ben got paid what he wanted. And then also produced if you've you. Tj what in that same regard then you get him a deal that he finds his fair make him the most lucrative player at his position make him the highest paid defender but the one thing that the everyone out there fans alike have to keep in. The back of their mind is that they have to do. They being the steelers they have to do. What's best for the steelers fans always want to play sides. They wanna pick aside. Some are saying there. I'm going to support the rooney family and the steelers. Tj watts not going to be able to be. You can't bankrupt the team. Then there's the players say dj. Y you gotta you gotta get what you can why you can. Both parties are going to do what they feel is best for their specific entity. The steelers and the rooney family are going to do the best for the organization. Tj wads going to do the best for himself. That's not going to change so you have to try to keep both sides happy. You have to try to find a middle ground. This is where the steelers might have to get creative. This was an interesting caveat. Our buddy jerry. Dulack as we call gerbera on our shows jerry. The pittsburgh post gazette put out there that although that unwritten rule that i spoke about of the steelers you know the steelers don't negotiate contracts wants the season starts and we have a lot of stories the most famous of troy palmolive signing on the dotted line before he got on the plane to go week one. He said that there is a caveat here that they have actually had a player sign not recently but they'd had a player sign after the season started but they honored it based on the fact that they started the negotiations before the season began. So if you're gonna follow this line of thinking. I'm not saying that i do. But if you're gonna follow this line of thinking you're stating that because they are the steelers. Tj watt negotiating. Now that even if they don't get a deal done by. I don't know sunday when the steelers play the bills at one o'clock in buffalo that they could still get a deal done and the the reason why he says that. Is it in one thousand nine hundred ninety five this jerry. Dulack in nineteen ninety-five safety darren. Perry received a new contract. Seventeen days after the start of the season and that was based on the fact that they had been negotiating all off season and then finally got a deal in place. So maybe that's changed. I don't know that's one example. It's been a long time. This hasn't been recent but darren. Perry is an example of maybe a situation where the steelers might say. Hey i know this is what we typically do. But we want to get this done. We want to get this deal done the last thing i want to talk about pride take a break and this is specific to the watt situation. This is not just a general thesis on the steelers and how they handle contracts negotiations and how they have to find a way to adapt to these new did the new requests of players and agents in the national football league. There's a lot of fans out there. And i'm not sure why they are doing this. I get why really but when you think about it it doesn't make any sense. Why in the world are fans out there comparing this. T. j. watt contract negotiation to that of levy on bell before he left it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever first and foremost. Tj watt is playing in his fifth year option. He is under contract likewise Compare that to lay on. Bell was not in a fifth year. Option to the second round draft picks up. There was no option. He was going to be a free agent in the steelers. Used a franchise tag on him. So there's there's a really big difference in the national football league and according to the collective bargaining agreement so those are two stark differences right there otherwise maybe on bell as when they had the franchise say ghanem did not show up for anything until the regular season began. Not for anything now. This is obviously not counting year. He sat out. He did not show up for anything. Likewise tj wad has been there every single step of the way. He showed up to training camp on time. He's been at every single practice. He has been at every single meeting. The only thing that is different with what is that he has not participated in preseason games or full-contact team drills. That's it and then even when it comes down to the contract negotiations players sometimes players and their agents will release numbers to try to get fans and media on their side. If this is a guarantee what happened with wavy on bell when he said or his agent etc while the steelers offered x. y. z. We didn't we were worth that. Well the problem was the steelers said. Look we did offer you. Xyz and you still turn all this down and it became this back and forth. That has not happened in these negotiations. I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. Based on the fact that tj watts camp or even the steelers don't feel like either side is so far apart that they feel the need to have to bash the other publicly..

"I r so obviously he's sticking around and the fact that he wasn't on my is a good sign that he'll be able to return and be able to play on monday night. Cory littleton going to be looking for a bounce back year after having after struggling coverage last year i think he can be the greatest coverage linebacker. The future hopefully. Hopefully he can figure that out. Because that's been a spot for the raiders that has been a weak spot for a long time coming denzel perryman. I'll be honest. The cagey right. Makes the perryman trade a little bit more head-scratching unless quick calc- isn't ready to go perryman is going to be a backup player at least start the year. Who knows. maybe we'll enough taken over. divide diablo. He obviously was banged up a lot during training camp and he looked pretty bad against the forty niners but it is a new position for them. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to grow. But i think his his future with the rangers is in the future and not necessarily in the presence. I wouldn't be. I would be shocked to see him. Playing a lot of significant minutes for the raiders this year. And if he is that probably means there's a lot of injuries going on again learning a new position and whatnot coming from the transition from college the nfl. That's a lot to take on as a rookie. So i don't know how much we'll see that guy. When the regular season starts and ascertain amuse you know. I keep talking about how how much growth. He's gone through the last few years. But i do think the signing of right. Kind of means. The raiders aren't really sold on what muses bringing to the table and that's understandable again learning a new position. This is basically his first year of live action. You know us obviously on the team last year but missed all the whole season with an injury. So i think the future's bright from us like diablo. He has a future on the team. It's just unfortunately not going to be right now. And then as far as the practice squad goes in any cuts max richardson's on the practice squad but i'll be honest. I'm not quite sure what he's doing on their the raiders. Seven linebackers on the active roster. If you count the guys that are on. I are so. I think it's gonna be a long road to the fifty three man roster from max. Richardson and i think he probably has a better chance. Getting picked up by somebody else that he does. Plan for the raiders. Moving onto safety. And i think probably the news had raider fans most upset this week was the decision ended up cutting karl-josef now look i'm karl-josef josephine too. I was hoping it would have worked out. I thought he had a chance to compete for a starting spot. What it's tough to compete when you're injured and you have a long injury history and then we're starting to talk about a backup role for you and again if you're injured a lot we can't rely on you to be available in bieler anyone. We need a backup. So i think that's ultimately what ended up leading to his release. I mean if we go back and look at john gruden's history we know yes doesn't have a lot of patients for injuries so i really think that plays a huge factor in it. It's unfortunate he ended up signing with the practice squad. Wishing the best of luck. You know once a raider always raider just wasn't meant to be over in radio land for karl-josef this year as for the other guys on the roster. I think the biggest surprise that a lot of people didn't see coming including myself was rodrick. Teamer ended up making the team and then down love. It got cut and then got re-signed just like how derek carrier did so. The raiders are going to end up rolling with five safeties with trayvon. Mary john neighbor entire gillespie. I think mary will be honestly the best player at the group. I think he probably right. Now is the best player even though he is a rookie. Abram is a huge year for him. You know he's gonna be it's gonna be your three. I know a lot of people like to use the excuse of last year that being his rookie season and i get that. But guess what we need to see. A lot of improvement this year from then tyree gillespie. I think he has a great opportunity to contribute a rookie especially as for being fifth rounder. I think he can play a little bit of both spots. And i think the raiders are gonna run quite a bit of diamond nicholas year which means he should have extra opportunities and then there's levitt who's going to be the special teams guy again. I've talked about before. I don't know how much value he brings to the defense but eh he six around and he apparently has apparently one gruden's guys so as for teamer. I think it'll be somewhat similar to gillespie he can play both spots both the free and the strong safety and i think he'll mix in a little bit and i know he's one gus brad. These guys haven't played for them in the past and gruden seems to love is feistiness and whatnot. I think victoria for even tweeted out. You know everyone slept on the guy that was starting all those fights and down in la. So i grew loves that feistiness and that fire from his players. So i think that's a big part of why he made the team and i think this end of being a strong root for the raiders. One position group. That i thought it was a little worried about heading into the season and i do like the guys that they ended up keeping around so be a fun position group to watch all right. We'll end things talking about the quarterbacks and the biggest thing i have to say is the youth movement is taking over in the raiders. Defensive backfield obviously you have. Casey hayward has been around for a while but after that is trayvon mullen. Who's going to be in your three. Damon are net. Who's in your to amac robinson year. Two and the nate. Hobbs is obviously a rookie. Those are the guys that are on the roster right now nevin lawson of poor suspended for the first two games of the year and i honestly think the raiders are going to take these first two games of the season to kinda see where nate haase's at and then kind of make a decision on lawson i would i think if everything goes to plan loss. Play another snap. But if nate hobbs ends up struggling if you know he doesn't show he did in the preseason then they at least have that insurance policy in lawson if that does come to be but hopefully hopefully lawson won't be around for week three and beyond but we'll see what happens over there as far as the practice squad guys go. The raiders signed jordan brown. Robert jackson and monterey harper madre harper was obviously on the raiders. Practice squad last year until the new york giants pluck them off of it and ended up playing in a few regular season games for the giants. Last year i'll be honest. I didn't catch too many giants games last year. I try to avoid the nfc's as much as possible with how bad that division was. But i think. Moderate harper played pretty well for the g. men up there so excited to see what he can bring to the table..

"You have to cut somebody. And if it's a young player that might get claimed through waivers That carries a little bit more risk. If it's a veteran player the dozen pass through waivers and they would have the ability to resign them at any time. They might be more likely to cut him as well. So i can see okafor being a guy that they keep on and then put on. I r war that they release until they put somebody else on. I r and then they can bring before back without any risk of another team clinton. Yeah and maybe in that same vein. Maybe they can. Maybe they think they can get away with that with a guy like dimona harris. If oakland is going to go on the maybe dimona harris's a guy they can cut because he is a veteran got you know he's not a he's not he's not. He doesn't wasn't drafted this year. He's been in the league four years. I wanna say off the top of my head and so he is a guy that may be the other teams. Just kinda you know aren't going to like anyway. So yeah you can cut him and bring him back. as depth when oak forbes on i r. It's very interesting point. I think You know we they're gonna play games with that spot. I think so. We were talking a lot about talk charleston. There i know brought in alto kuffour in that same conversation in theory they could always resign taco back if they needed depth and he doesn't get picked up by somebody else in healthy. They've definitely done with tony harrison. The past is a player. That's been on and off of this roster over the last couple of years. So i think they would have some comfort level that he would still be available where maybe a younger player like. Tim ward wouldn't be so. I've almost talked myself into this being a lock or close to a lie for tim ward It's not one hundred percent but you know with all of the other flexibility around. Tim ward is a better chance that they keep him and make some moves with some of the veterans. Now another move that was made in roster shutdowns mitch at advance to six on twitter asks what downside to see with will parks as compared to the other safety players who were on the roster by will was a special teams. What was it that kept will parks from distinguishing himself making the roster. Yeah you know. It's interesting because i thought we'll parks actually played pretty well in that first. Preseason game. I didn't really see him when the second one. But i presume game. He was flying to the ball. He got that really dumb penalty for blocking low. Even those on defense. I still don't really quite get why they keep coming to block but a he he in my opinion. That's exactly you should play it as a safety and so that was good but yeah there must to you know they like. They must like key in watson enough to to keep them around. 'cause you know if you're gonna have five safeties max if you want. Watch an key. You're gonna have to keep them both Obviously and and that's that's that's it you know you don't have anymore room for for other safeties. You're not keeping six safeties. But i i do think another good point and you actually brought this up to me. And i didn't even think about it but he is. He is a veteran will parks. And i do think there's onto these. Nfl teams if they know veterans. Not going to make the team. you know. they're going to help them out and they're going to get him out there so he can get with another team and get acclimated better than if he got cut next week. You know it gives them another week to kind of get things together and get another team. So i think there's always something to that and and even if he was playing well like i said maybe they have their five safeties. They know who they like. They know who they got. And it's just like hey you know we'll give you an extra week to to get going so i don't think it was anything about. I am special teams. Probably does factor into this. Because i don't think as a veteran he was playing much special teams compared to guys like key in watts. And so that probably is a lot to do with this. But at the same time i think i think it's i. It wasn't necessarily parks play on defense or anything or anything he showed. It must just be at these young safeties that they have they just kind of prefer. Yeah i liked will. I thought he had a real good shot at making this roster. The fact that he was cut at this point in the cut down process to me does speak to the bank that he is a veteran and they wanna give him a chance to catch on somewhere else which probably leads me to believe that he won't be back. He's a versatile player. He has played special teams in the past. So there's no logical reason why he wouldn't make the roster. I think it does speak to the success of devon key that he is a player that is likely once closer to making the roster and our watch who's been on the roster last couple of years those guys over overpowered when it comes to that position is probably what led to them letting go early. Sticking at the safety position aimed out sites on twitter. Asks is our chance that one thornhill is back to starting over. Daniel sorensen at some point. We can make this quick. Because there's absolutely a chance i mean and he's and at some point he probably needs to if he's going to be with the team long-term it really doesn't i. I'm i'm surprised that it didn't start out that way in camp but obviously you know there's some injury stuff that still needs to recover from it everything i guess and and you know we've we've seen it. He has had some. You know some bad reps. I the cardinals game. He was really good and he had that really good interception and maybe that starts to baltim- into the starting lineup. But yeah there's there's absolutely a chance that he is he's he's over sorenson by week one. If not just a little later in the week in the season now they didn't just come out today mentioned Sorry one thornhill and the fact that he is working his way back working his way into to work needs to be and they've given him purposefully given him extra snaps throughout this. Preseason that leads me to believe that maybe this question is moot because maybe one thornhill is the starter all along But they've just been giving him more apps on more levels of this team at just to get him back to where he needs to be. Sorenson may may have always been the third safety even if we saw him getting the starters reps in camper in preseason game. Maybe that doesn't speak to where he actually is on this roster. Yeah that's a good point and someone like sorenson who isn't going to play you know when those third safety type sees box safety and so maybe you know. Hey you're getting him work as the free safety. In case there is an injury and sorenson needs to play free safety..

"Rest because you know there is still a delicate recovery. Going from an you know. Broken leg that he suffered last year. And so i guess there are still you know limitations to to plan him a little bit but he was rotated with my cues in my eyes when i was at practice looking at stuff him in him and the undertaker mike user switching pretty evenly at that third cornerback position in the nickel defense. And so i'm surprised to see him behind guys like chris. Lamb and bo keys. I know the sa- funky part about the unofficial depth charges on keys are on different lines and baker. So it's you know it's hard to tell exactly what their order is but glamorizes listen to the second cornerback in bakersville third cornerback. I mean that's just you'd think they'd be switched around i if it was. They felt strong enough about baker. So it is interesting for sure but i do think there is some. There's some lingering injury recovery to that. Maybe that that might be dealing with that. We've seen it by the fact that he was given a few days off practice. I don't think there's any risks that baker doesn't make the team. I feel like he's in the plans. And depending on how they see the defensive back room whether you keep five corners or six corners or four safeties or five safety's That's an open question. But if you look at the safety depth chart maybe the does this give a little bit more. Ch- more clarity to that. We've got superintendent matthew as the starters with thornhill on the second team which is a little bit of a maybe a minor surprise If coming into camp and then devon key problem the the undrafted story of camp so far on the second team as well ahead of will parks and armani. Watts were sitting on the third team. And maybe on the roster bobble as well. So what about the safety depth chart here the surprise you will man. The devon key must be really impressing to play over veterans parks armani watts. I know parks in first year player in kansas city. But watts has been here man he he should and i know he's been hurt throughout the offseason. So that probably is factoring in a little bit as well but man you know. That's that's really impressive for key to to be at that spot already and getting run with the first team at times as well getting subbed in for tire matthews role at strong safety and so if if the chiefs dookie For safety's which you know. I think it'll be between four and five safety that they keep depending on how many cornerbacks they wanna keep and hey you wanna be deep at cornerback. So if you keep six that makes sense and then you're only keeping four safeties and that would result in. Parks are watts being off the team but even if they keep five and one of them's got to be off the team so right now guests parks between the two. I didn't really see parks. Do anything in practice. He hasn't really been running with any of the first or second teams. And so yeah. I think i think key is solidified himself as at ford safety even over watts. I think it's almost set in stone. And that's really cool. The chiefs strike. You know we don't. We don't know much about him yet but sure seemed like achieves sub yet again found another an drafted. It's going to contribute to this defense at some point down the road at minimum. He seems like he's got the mental side of the game down and he's versus whole enough to play multiple spots on that defense and of course be an impact special teams player. That's all you're looking for their out of that role. And so if he seems to be checking all the boxes and doing everything right good for him. Good for devotees. Making making a splash and likely making this roster. What about it. At wide receiver wide receiver. Depth chart was a little bit interesting here as well. No big surprises at the top. Obviously hill mccoll hartman. Who's having a great training camp so far at the top of the list then after them. You've got br byron pringle damarcus robinson and then and then you've got a guy who's really making a name for himself once again in markets kim There's some injuries with guys like antonio calloway maybe sliding down the depth chart and cornell powell looking pretty buried on there any any big takeaways from wide receiver roommate. The there's a crowd group there. Yeah so i think powell being still. He's right under marcus robinson in the second receiver slot. I think that's actually surprising to me. Because he really hasn't gotten any kind of run with the first team really. I mean some of the second team but it's really been all third team action for power and training camp From what i've seen and kemp marcus camp as you just mentioned is the one that's really been shining as that fifth or sixth receiver with the first team. You know making a lot of plays. He made a ton of great catches over cam toe tapping catches catches in traffic long touchdowns man he he looks the part and it's actually funny because in two thousand nineteen. He was having a very similar training. Camp i remember that was my first year covering the chiefs al. I didn't get what we're missing with camp. I mean he. He looked like a straight up a legit receiver he just got hurt in that preseason and didn't get another chance but now he's getting that second chance and i think he's i think you know we. We heard our friend. Nate taylor of the athletic sharpen. Sharpie him in on the roster. Basically marcus cam. I think that's fair. Because i think he's played enough. He's made enough. Plays this this training camp to where he is at fifth or sixth receiver and he has to be the six. Because you're not cutting cornell powell right so Yeah i i think i think pretty much solidified himself at six and and callaway. I think injury really screwed him. I don't know if he's going to be able to to make up for you know enough time to make this team. By the end of august we talked previously about the lower levels of the wide receiver. Depth chart you typically reserved for elite special teams players so marcus campus traditionally been the the mold for the fifth or sixth wide receiver. I made the case previous thought antonio. Calloway had a chance to round out the receiver group. Even though he wasn't a key special teams player just because of his ability is proven ability on the field on offense but yeah if he's not on the field and campus is blowing everybody away That could decide that competition. You know it could already be decided when you mentioned cornell pal to me it sort of depends on how you read this chart. I don't know if you're looking at it right now. Run but you've got Hardman robinson camp left to right and then fountain and then it goes sorta to a second line as if they ran out of room for wide receivers. So is paul really second team on this list or is he the fifth receiver on that particular list as a little bit hard to tell again. I will probably over analyzing something. That doesn't make any difference as soon as next week. But paul has been very quiet. He does fit. You know kind of a niche on this team. But i'm not sure that he's carving out that big role for himself. So if you look at the rookies so far Big surprises might be devon key. And maybe even josh canedo ahead of schedule and maybe not ahead of schedule. Colonel powell might be one of the guys. That's a little bit behind schedule from what we had hoped in his development. But we can't him yet. Yeah we know absolutely not but isn't it kind of funny cornell. Powell seems to be the only rookie that that hasn't really have this. This long trail of flames and hype behind him. You know every other rookie is you know bolton's even making a lot of plays in camp. We've talked about key. you know. Obviously no gray. Who will get to. It's just funny. I i you know i think at the drafters. There's a lot of people really excited about powell. And he's probably the one rookie the only rookie. That really doesn't have a you know this hype train behind him right now in training camp..

"His charisma in all that you saw all the guys from the you surround jimmy. There were a ton of guys in the cowboys in dolphins there. He's is huge. He went in with bill. So i get it and i'm glad he finally got in But it was just you know just to see again. Some of these clusters we figure for costs on the undrafted guys like cliff harris to safety. Who came with donnie shell. Two undrafted safeties five safeties. What it. I mean for decades. They didn't put these into the hall of fame. And then you come to the next night. You got to three first ballot hall of famers. Charles woodson mega tron eight manning you know going in you know with with with the drew pearson's of the world paul tagliabue. It was. It was really weird because a lot of kept saying because there's two classes going in there are so many people continue class. does that dilute. The impact of a kind of heartfelt weekend of the hall will be found out. Not really you know. It went from having a starting five so to speak when a championship to hold organization. It was beautiful thing. Sink is different generations. Really bond with one another knowing that they're going to be united you know in that. Bus roman can't forever is. Let's talk about the first ballot hall of famers because calvin johnson charles woodson paid manning algo in One by one. To calvin johnson one is one that people kinda debated a little. Bit about my kevin. Johnson has megatrend changed the game in terms of. We'd never seen anybody built like that. Have that kind of speak. And i think it's ironic again on a weekend. Where harold carmichael goes in the megatrend goes in because megatrend is what everyone would say is kinda like the evolution of a harold carmichael. I remember as a kid watching harold. Carmichael beam big and tall dominated on the parameter but never imagining That size could now have the speed and explosiveness to be a big play threat outside of being a jumble specialist megatrend completely scrap that change it. I mean i remember when he borrowed somebody else's shoes to run for three hundred four cow by pike. This that's ridiculous and look. His career was short in sweet. But people have to understand. You almost had two thousand yards at wide rec- but he was an unstoppable force in. I do hope that one day. He's able to patch it up. He ended alliance can get on the same page figure out. Whatever their issues are because the greatest. He's one of the greatest lyceum barry sanders. Whatever but get lombardo shambaugh. Or just the i would just like to see him celebrated the way. It should be celebrated in the while. I mean look. I think i think people detroit celebrating him. "Seven sixty eight fifty-six sixty sixty four fifty eight seventy nine sixty five below. We were looking at fifty or forty. So good. See more sixties in there. Okay number twenty. Four cincinnati bengals. Oh a team. That's on the build up on the rise but just aren't they just yet. So the thank you'd wanna hear lower big numbers here like in the semi nago here. Enough of the nineties Maybe even the high eighties. Because if you've got enough seventies averaging Deal you know that's enough average people versus. I got two elite players in the maybe ninety two. We haven't. I don't know if you've seen to yet seen elite in some good but i don't think we've seen to elite yet I might say one for one airline Remember but yeah so when you get to the phone that's how the roster is getting to the point of it. Being more important is being more successful okay. Them being higher ranked on this list because they can get more done. You got x. Factors on here With cincinnati hand out a sizable offseason contracts about dj reader. Entry wayne's last season right the two combined for two hundred and fifty nine offensive snaps Will that was you know because there was some injuries. So that's why. I was on the mini but read. It took a clear step forward in his career with houston in twenty nineteen season where he got eighty five point four Ranking for pro football focus. So that's where he is standing now. they're leading the way on offense which amar chase of course tomorrow chases going you know he out last year so going off his crazier. Lsu had in general with joe borough whose quarterback on their team now again ninety one point one whereas joe going based off his season last year with where he got injured. He said five point one. So i guess you take that with a grain of salt Right tackle rookie jackson carmen. At seventy nine point two And then when they get on each side of the ball will look just you based at third. Who is a great safety. So he's the ninety point why he is an elite. Safety is top five safety all right gregg doing great things for the organization and then there Like i said has sixty nine point. Six nagai trae adrian. In of course who's obese on edge with seventy nine point nine academically be higher so just imagine that One that i'm interested to see. Is that dobie woozy. From the dallas cowboys as fifty one point nine from his last year with them And yeah it's it's trying to come together They're weak link over. Here is definitely linebacker. Akeem davis 'gether would forty point two seven right you to work from gin that man. It's like it's like school. If you ask me all right. You got to work on getting his grades up guys But yeah that's number twenty four and then let me do the last one before we take this quick commercial break number twenty three The chicago bears the best. They still got khalil mack. That's their strength little mac. Seventeen point five sacks over the past. Two seasons aren't even a top ten mark in the league Look this guy you know. Because because of that he has fallen a little bit. But i feel like it's because it just a scheme they have him in over there so even though he's fallen a little bit he still ranked elite at heck with ninety two point five rating. Okay so don't get into the The wink league over here is definitely dany. Jervis linebacker which usually reserved whereas at. It's not because it's their fault is because it's just had reservation puts the folks on the other positions all right But yeah he has a thirty nine point nine so looking real tough over me. Going to off the side of the ball Andy dalton has a sixty nine point six Show we like to know just feels ask should be better than that Thank feels earned. Ninety plus pro football focus grades in each of the past two seasons. Just call leave it at that And in allen robinson has eight point three receiver. That's great they're left. Tackle will rookie left. Tackle tevin jeans ninety two rating leading the way for them on the line for sure. Okay so chicago bears They got some some stuff in the works that they're going to. i guess. Try to capitalize on. We'll see how it works out all right time for the quick commercial break. And we'll be. You're tired of searching the vast jungle of.

When i was in my early twenties. I moved back home to my parents house and my hometown. And i didn't really know anyone there anymore. I didn't really have any connections. Or have anyone close to me outside of my family. And i thought it would be a good idea to go down to the local mall and just walk around and see if i can find anyone who looked friendly that i might be able to strike up a relationship with. I did come across someone who he reminded me a lot of a friend that i had had in my former town where i'd been living and i thought maybe i could form a connection with this person so we talked for a while and exchanged phone numbers after talking for a couple of weeks He did ask me out on a date. The only problem was that he didn't drive. So i would have to go and pick him up his house where he lived with his grandmother. And that wasn't too much of a big deal to me because it's not that common or really not that uncommon to find people who don't drive in larger cities so i waited all week. I was pretty excited. And then when the day came. He pretty much ghosted me. I couldn't get him on the phone and he wouldn't answer any tax so i just thought maybe he wasn't as interested as i thought he was an pretty much. Let it go just because you know. Sometimes things don't work out but then he got a hold of me a couple of days later he called and he explained that the reason that he had not gone on that date with me was because he had lost his ferret his ferret had died in. He was really very upset. By that and didn't feel up to getting out and being social and i understood that and i i took it as a reasonable excuse because any time i've ever experienced something that it can be kind of traumatizing so we made arrangements to go out the next following weekend and when that day came he did not ghost me. He did answer the phone. I ended up over there at grandmother's house to pick him up. He didn't quite have everything in order. So i followed him two bedrooms that he could pick up the last few things that he needed just to make sure that he was prepared and had his wallet with him. And all of those different things that you do but when he opened up the bedroom door the thing that i noticed i was that his bedroom. Pretty much just consisted of four blank walls. A bear full-sized mattress in the middle of the floor. There was no sheet or blankets. Or anything like that and probably there had to have been two hundred empty soda cans just piled all around the bed like in little towers and stacks. But that wasn't that wasn't the main thing that i noticed. The main thing that i noticed. Was that suddenly. My eyes were barney and they started to water and then the smell hit my nose and it coated like the inside of my nose. In a way that makes sure that you'll never forget the intensity of the stench that it will be burned into into your memory. And he said oh. Don't mind that that's just my ferret and i looked and over in the corner. There was indeed a ferret cage with a dead ferret in it and obviously i was completely shocked that he had been coexisting with the corpse of his dead pet ferret as it sat in the corner of his room probably for over a week at this point he was really disappointed that we didn't get to go on that date that i wasn't very disappointed when i went home. That was enough of a red flag for me..

"I'd be dropped zone. You demand coverage if you feel that's and it's kind of a combination coverage very difficult to run but at the high level they over not lot coverages like no on one half of the field. We play on my gorge. All you the off. We play usually red zone in an emergency. You play in a great receiver. You might do it for one week. Staley just says no. That's my that's what we run. You know it's really high volume high variance in my end goal for seven. We might pick something off when you have jalen ramsey like i said i mean that's real easy like you said what what is gonna give them. Is they just have more athletes on the field and for nelson is the offense. A slimmed-down slimmed-down slimmed-down you. Now get yourself you macho athlete for athletes. We're playing one on football. And i think we actually have on defense better athletes. 'cause i can play doing james and east only be able to play doing james and another safety and can play to those guys. I could play back in the day kam. Chancellor l. thomas andrew when james that is the translation of the game. The difference here it all sounds great. In theory stay is a guy who put it into practice and if you look season the rams defense they were massively batch in the second half of games i mean for a long time they were. They were threatening to be the best defense by points. The second half ever in the history the league including times when you know they a play games. Wait with six three. That's how dominant they were in the second. Half of the games is a guy who can see it. Feel it change in the moment. And he runs all of these things and you'll change it. Snap the snap. You must wear things snapped us now. That people will spend weeks trying to come up with you know by week installing it and he says let's do it now. That is unteachable and coach will. You can't just decide. Let's run brandon stuff that that that comes from somewhere who knows you. Bill belichick in level of understanding the moment so. I just don't think you can replicate dan. That's why. I think it has to be the premier win at the scene. It's like when the rams got mcveigh wonderland's turbocharged. Now they got the guy the next twenty years and actually happened the On the other side of the ball. Yeah newly described okay. Well charges were big on that. Let's go to on the flipside. A maybe not so much. And you've already shown you add a little bit all year. And i've disappointed to hear this will saying disagree with it because i've got a soft spot for him would like to see it. Come good but the rate is Perhaps when your opinion anyway looks like they're gonna be up against it. Converse in contrast to the charges a protection that they have afforded that franchise quarterback ogling derek carr franchise quarterback sure but certainly their offensive. Line is all change that even. That's going to be a huge issue for the charges. They've got a very stacked leash and we all know what happens when you get behind the eight ball and suddenly you're in three one and four everybody's talking And it's this underlying issue. Is that from day. One since gruden walked in the building doesn't really rate is quarterback doesn't just seem doesn't it not natural fit there so a long road ahead for the vegas raiders. It's so fun. I gotta say an all time league from derek this week would you not say he was like i will quit. If you trade me. I'm the jon gruden and mike mayock spend the last three years flirting with every available cool. It's about the light to show him what's involved are in raja's we're involved. They were looking. Let's get involved in a trade and eric. I will quit. I will seriously quit for reading. And he said that when as you mentioned start schedule that first five games either played all pro pass russia or group that fits the top fifteen in precious in two hundred twenty right in the middle of that might may together with younger and said what if we take all three good offensive linemen and we trade them off. Middling draft picks and they'll teach dot is genius. Let's do this where your mayo. Because obviously before he tied assigned to be a gm he was a highly regarded analyst. Talent evaluator the college game and he seems to have divided opinion. And that's it's under the tends to be more negative connotations but in terms of the business. He's done so far is as gm. A lot of people are down on it. there are some apologists mac apologists. That say he's very clear in what he wants. Has real faith. This conviction doesn't really care what anyone else says. Iraq's will go and get what he wants. An is the right fit based on the draft. She's seen so far from and indeed the the other business stun. How what's your grade grade is a tough one. It has to be a at de. I feel like jon jon gruden. The coach is bailing out. Jon gruden might may have the talent if i think that underlying ross actually pretty good they have a law plays where like guys who go plants death piece in the top end. Is you say where they've kind of. And you have to admire taft. Stoves say we don't care about anyone else's evaluation. We are taking on a good as well right. I mean farrell exact same thing just taking up on safety saying forget it. We'll take on the next show. Wanna safety go get me a safety and the league now by five safeties adds. That's probably why the league now in every office. They have economists. You went to harvard. You say well you know that's fine to say you wanna play but it's all about draft equity we maximize the potential of the pick and gruden's no i won't cleanline- feral he six seven. He's got gigantic arms. Bring me that. Play 'em and that you know that fine and the baseline is good. They just don't have that kind of top difference. Makers now janet can quay and you hope they can maybe try and piece together for free free agency but they just feel so middling and it feels like it's not going nowhere until to your point earlier they can try and pull these gigantic moves that they've kind of tiptoed around for a few years now and that kind of feels like at this level it they feel so oddly in a rush for franchises gave its coach ten years ten years right tangier has no matter what will locked in what way in a rush will link ourselves to everyone will chase it now. We want this play. We'll chase it so it's a tough situation. I actually as i said. I kind of liked that roster by do you think gruden is massively the schemer and playful and aiming a lot with a little Well let's look at that. Because i guess the the upside this rate is fans out there. Now that spent the last four or five minutes crying into that bet rugs could go off this year. I mean he has with your college evaluation. How disappointed i guess. But he's a real bun and he's he's got tremendous upside potential. Wouldn't surprise you if he goes for eleven hundred yards ten touchdowns at his breakout player. No you just kind of waiting on that mike wallace. You remember that all of us elise league and touchdowns and every right and it's over twenty yards and just hope is the rate is. We're going to be the tv. Keeps waiting and waiting and waiting and go somewhere else does what might also the right year is coming e com that fast and not get away from people. Sometimes you know at some point. It's going to happen for you. You just quicker than everyone else..

Staley Jon gruden jalen ramsey jon jon gruden mike mayock james gruden two hundred one week ten years jon gruden Bill belichick eleven hundred yards mike wallace second half five safeties five minutes four janet ten touchdowns

"Be honest with the i know it. It like riles people up. And i didn't have making the roster and he's not. I don't think he's necessarily like not going to make the roster. But i think it's certainly something that should be on people's radar thing. Yeah i don't think what no offense. No great great athlete. I think he deserves to be on a roster but all all he does is run very does run extremely fast. That's what he has. He has good sized too. I mean i think he plays her two hundred so he's got to see. Has it helped. The graham statler techniques need still need some polish Niessen polish heating bala tracking abilities still needs some polish again. The only league thing do very well is he can run as it sounds like a special team has sound like a key guy. You're cornerback rotation. So i think he'd really is fighting force. Flatman is not a guaranteed. Unless you're things yeah. So yeah. So i i like that. We are also hearing. Is oliver getting the first chance in the slot. Play a lot better there. Yeah so you know. That's that's cool. avery. Williams and darren hall. I don't you're the one that's watch holiday. You think he's more of an outsider slot guy in the nfl. I think hall was more of a balaji corner hall is is going to be the one that's gonna give sheffield a fight for that russia spot. I think halls gonna make the roster. It'd be now he's you know he's gonna saying like if if sheffield wants to stay on the roster he's gone best that's one guy that he's going to have to be better than and i'm not quite sure he will be to be honest with you. darren hall is the what darren hall has that jeff doesn't show is this stakes are gonna stand out or did he ever harbor interception already at some point otas rookie navy. Maybe that yeah. I think he was the one that did come down with something like his first. The first or second Rookie minicamp so it was like this right there. He's already showing went as better than kenosha. Yeah that's the thing like an indian. Ps defense you just gotta be opportunistic. And like i think. Ship dan quinn. You know. Valued athletes at corner a lot. More and i think we've seen from the two picks the falcons had they went after guys. Who were ball hawks. Some guys that are opportunistic. Because i think the fa- dp and the facts understand like look. We're not going to out talent. He went on defense especially this year. So like we just need to come up with like a turn if we can average like one turnover a game better like that might be enough for our offense like if our offense is what we think it can be and we can run the ball a bit better like we might not need to be a great defense. We just need to create a turnover to shorten the game a little bit and then we could get by with blitzing and kind of covering up in papering over the weaknesses on this defense by being aggressive. And look. we're gonna make mistakes too. But i think that's the best strategy so we said that after the draft we pointed out the fact that what they have in the secondary right now are are a number of guys that are able to capitalize on turnovers because of their ball skills. This is going to be a. We may not see a guy that has the visit sax this year. I'm willing to bet that. But i think we'll ps is going to try to incorporate. Is that aggressive front. Seven and a back in a secondary that is able to make those plays. Because again you're going to see you wanna see some rush throws you're going to see some overthrows piracy's and tip passes. You're gonna see some some quarterbacks that are fluster trying to make a play and on backing unique guys that can turn into receivers with the ball near. And that's what they did with darren hall and enrichment so yeah. Yeah so it's yeah. I think the secondary is kind of coming together a little bit. I mean. I think it's gonna be great. But you know as opposed to where we stood after they cut ricardo allen. And let walk. And let davante as you walk like. It's doron harmon. Richie grant eric harris eight. That's decent three safety group. Like i mean it's not maybe the highest end group in the nfl but it's very versatile. All three of those guys can play in the box poor deep or cover to look so they can move around like the. Mp's likes you know. I think the corner group is not great. I mean we'll have to see how the rookies do. And i do think they make another addition cornerback or a linebacker. Probably the two most likely spots that are maybe edge on defense but like like. Jc jackson would be perfect like that. I think would really take this over the edge. You don't have to force fabian. Moreau to star outside. But i think they'd be moreau's probably better as like your corner three your primary backup and then you. Can you have oliver in the slot or whoever but more rose. I think i think so. Too honestly. like marc mckee's farm jesse jackson. But yeah right is. He's not he's not. You know a special type of talent but you know. He's i think he's gonna be just fine out there he. He played very well at times in washington on edge it was it was the slap where they try and the washington try to make him be a slot corner in s mathis day. And and that's where he that's why he went awry I think a like a monday or manage. Yeah yeah. I liked that a lot better to see. We'll see what darren hall and avery williams. Like i don't know if he's going to get a lot of run on defense this year but i think they're going to see what they have and see if they can trust him to play the slot in the future. Maybe he's a guy that just needs more experience. I think but. I think his freshman and sophomore year. She had eight and nine pass deflections in each year. So he's a guy that can get his hands on. The football size is really his thing. So we'll see if We'll see if he can carve out a role too. But yeah i mean williams's path will be special teams and we haven't heard too much about how that competition between him enroll into going. But i think darren hall. Probably pretty safe kendall sheffield. Is someone who we talked about. Probably going to have to show something in camp. Unless he's banking on them keeping six corners which we know dean pees likes to run a lot of three safety stuff so you know them. Keeping six is not a guarantee they might want to keep five safeties. Tj green guy. A lot of people don't know he did. Green is a good player. Like he's he's a decent. You know extra safety and they still jalen hawkins too so they might want to keep five safeties. I think a lot of that also is going to depend on. And we got. We just got done with this. What is not the result of a. Julio trade is far as clearing that castaways because they get the cap space that they're looking for they're going to have some extra cash to to bring in some free agents all season and you're still a couple of guys at there on on the market as safety that i think you know the team may give a look me cooker is one guy that comes to mind Often injured but you know if he's healthy and he's he's able to incorporate those ball skills as well right. He's going to be a nice pickup for this offense secondary month. Yeah i agree. I agree so all right next. Topic left guard battle. One of the most interesting battles most important battles of training camp so far it looks like josh andrews is leading the competition which is surprising because like we said like twitter. He's a veteran. he's probably going to get the first crack just because of experience but Evan i'll let you get a word in here we just been talking. But what do you think about the left guard battle so far..

"In elite defense. That was, in part because of his performance taken 23 Man teams on that left side. So you know that that zone interesting position of being as a new GM to be like, okay? I'm gonna ask that dude to take a pay cut. Stay here, or I'm gonna move on all together. A couple of notes here they did say pass rushers tend to last a little bit longer, especially guys to keep themselves in great shape. You saw guys like John Abraham and Dwight Freeney last very long in their careers, So extending him and offer with incentives should be the way to go. All of them, said Justin Simmons should be priority one. You just don't find guys that you drafted and develop their that squeaky clean off the field and that good a player on it. You don't That's a unicorn. There are several mentions in here to not only the unicorn want that, you know, once in a lifetime type player, that kind of stuff right? It might not be the best of his position, but because of all the things that he has going for him is the best option for you. Eve cost yourself with the franchise tag. Now there's an expectation set on what the money number is gonna be. You probably gonna have to pay a top five safety money. You want to get that done First you wanna have that deal lined up in front of him talking to player and say, Let's get this thing done. What's your number? Let's get this thing done Day. One s O all six in agreement on re signing Justine Simons, and it almost feels like After you went out there in your introductory press conference, saying that we're about drafting developed. That's what we all do as an organization. Doesn't it feel like you sort of have to have some people speculating that they felt like it meant the opposite or something to the length along those lines, and I I didn't read that at all this for me screams when we find guys that do everything that they're supposed to do, and they become the kind of player that we drafted him to be. In fact, maybe even exceed expectations. Which we could say that for Justine Simons, then yeah, You know, I have to get it done. That's an interesting point. You bring up there, though, about the franchise tag, maybe costing them a little bit on the backside. We already knew that as a result of doing the franchise tag and kicking the can down the road is gonna cost you more money just by the nature of what the league is set up to be right. Because you know, these contracts never go down there only go up and you're gonna get completely compared and constitute the next guy that gets his payday. So for Justine Simons, who is clearly a top five safety in this league will be paid a such well that top five number will continue to go up. The longer you kick. This can down the road and you've been reporting for a while now that you don't expect that he would be willing to play on a second franchise tag. So even if you have George Payton coming into the situation, saying, I don't know if he's a top five safety like I don't I don't know that I like him a lot, but I'm not willing to pay him that kind of money. There aren't really a lot of options now to kick the can down the road with Justin. There really aren't you could tag him as a negotiating ploy, and you can always listen. That tag on death's. That's a possibility, but I find it very, um I do not think that Justin would play on the second tag. I think that you know Justin was willing to have faith in the organization with the first tag. And I think that you've got to meet him now with the second when you got a meeting with long term deal, they were they weren't that far off last year. Um, you know, they didn't exchange proposals after April, but they weren't that far off where the number needed to be. And they could get their you know, Honestly, if you're paying you come back and you say, what was the number that you wanted last year? And if it's within your marketing range, I think you just give it to him. I don't think even negotiate. I think you just give him that number. And you say, Hey, look, this is my show of good faith that sends a message to the locker room right off the bat. Well, that's the point. And that's the thing we talked about. I think last week is just saying attack. This point. You're you're sending a message to him. You're sending a message. The locker room you're saying message. The fan base. This is this is one of those Feels too easy not to screw up. But at the same time, why do we all feel like I'm still a little uneasy about it? Well, I think a lot of people are nervous because they've seen the way of the things have gone sometimes, And I think that's what it is. I don't think that people which I hope that the fan bases in genuinely nervous about the justice Simmons situation that getting gone. He wants to be here. The organization wants him. It should be pretty easy, you know, on paper should be pretty easy to get that done, right. Uh, but, you know, we've seen how stuff is dragged out before John Elway like T O Win negotiations, you know, used to have that kind of it made agents. Angry, Angry agents, um You know, out there about that kind of anger players. I think that George Payton situation a little bit different. I think coming in that goodwill gesture will will go a long way. If you've got a leader in the locker room, getting his right off the bat. What he was looking for without hardball negotiation. If you're if you're, um if you're the truck, if you're anybody, you just do that deal, get it done that, you know, quibbling over a couple $100,000 at this point is really not worth it. What kind of reputation would you want? George Payton to have as a negotiator. Well, you from the organizational side of house. You want a shrewd negotiator that saves money, But from a player's side of the house, you want a guy? It's not cheap and finding that balance is difficult. You know, John Elway erred on the side of, um, being perceived as cheap. You know, Um, there are guys like John Dorsey, who err on the other side and give incredibly player friendly deals that get him and cap hell in a couple of years s O find was like John's always paying attention to that. It seems like a really big whether you want to win the negotiation, not what she does, but it seems like he He's super cares about that, And that's a That's a point of pride for him. The other teams that put themselves in kind of bad cap situations he can always come back to that. Hey, guys, whatever you want to say. We're in pretty good shape right now. We could do things we want to do. John's always been a successful businessman. You know, he ran the business side of the Broncos. Very well. You know him and Joe Ellis. But whatever you want to say about anything else, the Broncos were never in cap. Hell. They were never in cap trouble..

Justin Simmons George Payton Justine Simons John Elway John Broncos GM John Abraham Dwight Freeney Joe Ellis John Dorsey
