Biden Wants Us All to Pay Our Fair Share... But What the Heck Is It?!
"Say you have a small business and you you make your successfully five six seven hundred thousand dollars a year and you're paying forty forty five percent in taxes biden says. That's not your fair share. I know this will disappoint angeline. But i make a pretty good living to i. Don't make sean hannity money. I don't make howard stern money. But i also don't make money a like a waiter waiting tables. I looked at my tax returns last night. I was curious. The last full year that i lived in new york as a fulltime new york resident city state federal taxes forty eight point five percent. I gave almost half of my income back to the government. Is that not my fair share. Since i moved to florida. It's better last year. And i remember last year. I was in florida almost the whole year. Because of the pandemic almost forty percent taxes came to thirty eight percent. Is that my fair share. How much is my fair share. How much is the fair share of a somebody who owns a farm and makes four five six eight hundred thousand dollars a year. Somebody who owns a restaurant. Somebody has an insurance agency. Somebody has a small business. Somebody who's a lawyer doctor. A pilot into whatever you do for a living. What is the fair. Share biden keeps repeating it like rainman waiting for judge. Wapner at five o'clock. Pay your fair share. Pay your fair share. But i guarantee you somebody knows what the fair share is. What is it should. I give back. Eighty percent of my income to the government. Ninety seventy five. Because frankly i think almost half of my income shows pretty fair to me.

"His support for a covid vaccination requirement for air travel. Now the Biden administration has not ruled it out. I haven't heard anything from by none this We've heard a lot from Biden recently in the last few days about covid and vaccinations and testing. Do you like a vaccination requirement for air travel or not, Uh, already got the best as they call him. The air scrubbers up there. You're wearing your mask and your on there and you're vaccinated. You can all you care about? I'm vaccinated. I'm going to be fine. I just I don't think that we need to be doing something like this, Uh, you know, now internationally. That's not up to us. Even I mean, we're flying somewhere. They may say you need to have this and so that has nothing to do with us, But I never heard a lot of stuff about it's it's becoming an us versus them, and he's making it feel that way at times and Vaccinated versus younger and I don't That is not a good way to try to unite and you've got enough issues right now, so there's no way to reunite. We're not united at all. We're not going to be united anytime soon. So it's almost like you have to battle it. Because, you know, like, what did I see? Over the weekend? September 11th. Everybody talked about September 12th. It was September 12th. Dude, Everybody loved each other. Yeah, I mean, like September 12th. We were like we were united. Could you Everybody loved Bush? Could you imagine? We all wanted one thing If we had true social media the way we had it now Back back then what? That would look like you imagine. I can't just could you imagine Twitter and Facebook? No. It's just it would be insane. I know. But you know you mentioned it earlier in the program. Do we need another spokesperson than Fauci? Um, yeah, I I think America is tired of the guy. Yeah, listen, He's a brilliant guy. He's smart guy You can get to where he is because it's stupid guy. Here's thing, though. When you know He's had to backtrack on a bunch of stuff that, he said. Some of it is certainly his fault. Other well, the virus changed. And we had to backtrack on a few things that I understand. But a lot of times he was, you know, a bit misleading to say the least. But I see I like this. I mean, the only way we're going to get out of this mess is if almost all of us get vaccinated. And that's certainly not going to happen. So I mean, I've said it before. Let's just treat the vaccinated the unvaccinated differently. That's what we have to do. It doesn't mean that we hate you if you don't want the vaccine, okay, fine. That's your call I have I've treated, but it's same because you guys are out of my house. So that's pretty much all you don't leave your house. No, but for those of us to leave our house has been on a plane rather sit next to somebody who's vaccinate, Go places and I go see movies when I'm seeing a movie in two years ago. I know nothing's being released. Uh, you know, I get excited for that. But I just to me. I just I can't do that. And first of all, I don't really have to be honest, I don't care about your vaccine. I've got the vaccine and I've had it. So I got the super antibodies. At this point. I really don't care what you have or haven't had. Uh, you know, I mean, it's not like like you said, Do I know you? Are you around me like I We're not hanging out that much. And you've made sure that we know everybody's vaccine status here at the state. I know you've got it on your phone. Got it right here. But it is interesting, though. When you look at the airlines are they going to do this? Like United Airlines? They are telling their employees. Everybody's got to be vaccinated. So recently 50% of unvaccinated employees that United Have already complied in the first three weeks of the five week grace period. It's a good number of people. Yeah. Delta Airlines what they told their employees is this Hey, If you don't get vaccinated, you're subject to a 200 monthly surcharge. So from Delta 1/5 of its unvaccinated employees received the shot. In the first In the two weeks since the airline announced it So when Biden comes out and says, okay, for for those of you who own a company of 100, more people Either get them vaccinated or have them tested. It's the very least you should get tested. I think everybody should get tested. Fine, I think because it's a problem with that. The people that Have Asymptomatic mostly is going to be people that are what they're the ones that with Delta If if all of us can spread it, they're the ones who people like us. If we've all been vaccinated, we should probably all contested once a month or once every other week or or something, if a really serious about slow in this thing down I think Delta is running its course. I think we're seeing in a lot of places. Few places are having issues. But those are places where what was it like Idol We're talking about like 36% vaccination rate. It's brutal. Yeah. 36%, and that's why we're still stuck in this thing. So Kentucky is getting crushed Kentucky. That's what people know. What do you think? Probably right around 36% again and Mitch McConnell's got 1000 times and said, You guys need to go get vaccinated. They're not going. Some people just aren't going to We'll see. "On his that is Marlena Dietrich right there. Now we see cats everywhere. There were cats everywhere. He loved all animals, but he did love cats. Um, uh, He had a kind of a colony of cats here, and the cats we have at the Emmys warehouse are descendants of those cats and they have some of them have six fingers We have about 60 cats here right now, and a little over. Half of them. Do have six toast. And what is that significant up? It's a genetic trait. So, basically, if your DNA is coded for Specific gene to over express itself. While you're an embryo, you get bigger or more digits. So our cats have that coding in there. Did he have that someone gave him someone gave him Captain Dexter did give him the first six toed cat. And, um, his. Her name was Snow white and, um, they were considered good luck and maritime culture and Hemingway was accident prone. And superstitious, so he thought the cats would help them out a little bit. How many six toed cats can I surround myself? Whether I I I love the deck. Oh, isn't it beautiful? I would say that this is probably one of the money shots of the property right there, that along with the lighthouse view that you can get from right through here, And now the story does go that Hemingway used that White house because it was a functional lighthouse in the 19 thirties. Story goes. He used that to find his way home from the bars at night, so JL throughout this house, there's always a little, uh, treasures. I don't know if that's the correct way to describe what I'm looking at. I It is a treasure. It is a part of the history of this place. We know coming way for going too Sloppy Joes bark, the landlord of sloppy Joe's Bar when it was at Captain Tony's raises the rent $4 a month to Russell's not about to pay. It removes his establishment to where it is now on, which is about a half a block away, So he gets his patrons to help him with this move, because it's such a short move. On the appointed evening. Everybody shows up, they have to move the furniture. They have the glassware anyway, including Hemingway in some versions of the story and the album of the alcohol Now I'm not sure all the alcohol made it because part way through, they start getting very excited and start helping him move the plumbing. Hemingway in this, you know, sees this urinal here decides that he has poured enough of his money down that drain that it should be his. All right, So he gets a buddy of his help him carry this journal down to his house, and he puts it in the center of his yard. Now his wife wakes up the next morning, Pauline Pfeiffer. She does not find that glorious trophy at all. She decorates it by aligning it with that imported Spanish tile. And then people said, I'll draw on top of it. Creates this fountain, right? There's so much more to having within the house. There is as great as that. So this is the swimming pool. Hemingway When he moved into this house, he saw this part of the yard and thought it was perfect for the thing he always wanted. So he built for himself a regulations boxing room right there. Now. Pauline wanted a pool because she wanted to have pool parties serve adores, you know, host people out by a pool. And so they before he left to cover the Spanish civil war. They talked about putting one on the side yard over there. But after he left and Pauline found out that he had gone with Martha Gellhorn, she was not happy. So she ripped out the brunt of the boxing ring. She, um, took it to Blue Heaven, which was then a brothel and a boxing gym, where she sent it over there and built this pool. Now Hemingway comes home and finds this pool Finds out that it did cost $20,000 to install. Now That's a lot of money. Now, more than the house more than a house, he absolutely, but you know, back in. He was 1937 when this happened, so is the height of the great Depression. And in today's money that's give or take $330,000 that she spent on the pool. Now Hemingway is furious because this not only cost $20,000 it cost him his boxing ring. He puts his hat in his pocket and he pulls out a penny and tells Pauline. If you're going to spend all my money, you might as well take my last red satin rose it on the ground, and he storms off right, Pauline. She thinks this is funny. She didn't use Hemingway's money to build this pool. She's Pauline's might build this fall, so she took that penny and press it into the still drying cement of the pool deck to keep it. There is Hemingway's last red Cent. And we have it right there. On the pool deck. That's the actual 1934 copper penny that was Hemingway's last red Cent. Hemingway would write every day from somewhere around six a.m.. And so he put like the Typewriter on shelves are that kind of thing so he could stand while he wrote, And it gets hasty to Teddy Roosevelt influence. We've got to take a Roosevelt's house. He's got the big game heads. Wow. I feel like this is probably the place on the property that most has Hemingway's spirit in it. Most has the vibe. This is like I said, the place of literary magic. So keeping it as a as a place where you could imagine Hemingway sitting here writing, you know, composing some of you know, first part of for whom the bell tolls. You know, death in the afternoon. Like all those passion projects that he did work on here. Kind of capturing that aura of this is the place where the man sat and he wrote his. You know some of his best work. So what are some of the titles said he wrote here, he wrote, he started for whom the Bell tolls her Like I said he wrote the only play, he wrote the fifth column. Death in the afternoon, the green Hills of Africa snows of Kilimanjaro. Um he wrote many short stories while he was here, including a few of the Nick Adams shirts too well, One thing is a lot of people with them and said he worked hard at writing. He was a dedicated writer, and he would get up every morning and write every day every day. And supposedly when he was in town. Of course, you know, life gets in the way of whatever job you have, Uh, here we get up and right, and he would be the end of the day Count. How many words he had written? And you kept track him and he very often writes Parkinson's editor and says I wrote 500 words today. I think that key West shaped him into the man he needed to be in the writer. He needed to be too right. The old man in the sea. So yes, I do. I think that his best works or his first in his last. The Sun also rises and the old man in the sea. But without key West, you would never have had the old man and that whole nautical feel whole nautical. Feel that hold all that in for al the knowledge of fishing that he had he started collecting here. This is the town that ignited the passion for the book that won the Pulitzer Prize and led to his Nobel Prize. So when he writes about relationships, it's what he experienced. What he writes about Deep sea fishing is from his experience, he writes about wards from his experience. Yes, this key West was a crucial part in the formation of that papa persona that he put out you know that that fishermen that you know, big game hunter that that man's man, it all started right here. This you're looking at the seeds of that Hemingway myth. Key West is what you think of when you think of Hemingway going down to the bar to get a Dockery going out deep sea fishing all of those things that you think of as Hemingway. It's all in key West. So so, Tom, you have certain things here for the library. All right, Right. What do you have here? Well, we have a number of things. This is our prized possession and Hemingway. What is it? It's a galley proof or For to have and have not galley. Proof is what you did to proof reading on it. And then take the last galley. Right. The last proof. This is supposed to be the last one before they went to harden Putin, Franny and you have on the margins. You say these. This is his writing on the margins. Is it writing on one end? It's got its initials.

I was like, Oh, I want to see if he stayed, but he didn't have no, they brought a stretcher out and they carried him through a back door. Oh, man, I gotta get the replay of that on YouTube. Uh, you know, it's interesting that last part of Biden's always trouble with the names. He did have a moment there, the secretary Blinken. He almost didn't come up with it. Don't you get excited when he stops I looked up. I looked up in the screen and I thought I was this going to be the moment. Is this going to be the one that where he completely freezes and he can't figure out? The name of the guy or where he is or what he was going to say, and he just keeps staring into the camera. The remaining brain cells are working hard right at that moment to retrieve whatever nugget is left in there, you look into his eyes. You can see the brain cells dying in the back of his head is another teleprompter address. But by the way, we almost jumped out because he started with his stupid spending bills. Yeah, and congratulating Democrats. I was getting antsy here because I thought it was going to be about the bigger story. Afghanistan Well, he's trying to distract everybody. We're here with trillions of dollars of spending on nonsense like this is going to go. Well, Would you trust him to spend $3.5 Trillion after this? Yeah, That's the news today. The Democrats are moving along that $3.5 trillion social spending bill. You know, it's different from the infrastructure bill. You don't think there's a lot of filth and garbage and waste in that thing. Oh, my God. Social spending bills? Yeah. It's like it's a gigantic welfare package package. Well, they're going to paint him as FDR A Johnson. This is a great makeover. That's been done already. We've already had no, it needs to be done again. Apparently America's starving. Why are you not food? Insecure? I don't see anybody starving. I see people dragging their bellies all over. I don't see anybody looking hungry these days. I can't wait till all the hype over. Climate change makes you hamburger Insecure because the war on meat, you know, just fine. It's such a waste of time They're going to fail. You're not getting people Stop eating me. Just shut up. Uh, well, here's a recap on Afghanistan today as best we know it. I spent some time watching the cable news networks because I was waiting for Biden to speak at 1 30, But as usual, they couldn't rouse him. Joe. He finally came out at two o'clock. What? It's five o'clock. Don't you know? By now I'm having my tea and my early dinner. That's right. It is late in the day for him now. Five Oclock. Yeah, it's five of the 809. Whatever that That's right, because early bird dinner is usually at four. You know, though, I thought about this today because of the death of Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones. They're all about the same age. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Biden, Right? Exactly. Yeah, they're all in that same generational. One or two year difference there because Charlie watch was 80, but it just seems like because they're still rock and roll singers. You don't think of them as Biden like. Yeah, right. You don't You don't think of Mick Jagger and Joe Biden is being contemporaries you do. Biden's always seemed 78 for a long time. Paul McCartney is older than Biden. Yeah, it turns 79, didn't he? Yeah, I think he did. He just turned 79. He's the same age. I think it's Fauci or Fauci just turned 80, but even found she's pretty. He said. Yeah, he is. He looks limber and ready to go play basketball. Whatever I the deadline. To bring all of our troops out of Afghanistan is August 31st that's one week away. Apparently, that's not changing. And reports this afternoon or that some troops are already leaving. I've got 5000 or more at the airport. So there's still a lot there. Although the New York Post has a story from inside the White House, you don't get as many of these as we did when Trump was president. I know whether or not the media doesn't care or nobody's talking. I don't know what it is. But he was afraid of another Somalia. Remember Black Hawk down that if he sends the military into Kabul to try to rescue American citizens and get him to the airport? They'll be attacked and it could look ugly. So we're going to leave the Americans, uh, die. Yeah. I mean, the reports aren't thousands is all I hear Thousands are still there. Americans? Yeah. I don't know how many thousands and I guess we given up on the, uh, the Afghans who assisted in the effort. Uh, you don't know that number. Taliban is now saying they don't want Afghans to leave no more. They're adamant. No, Talibans get to leave, and I saw a video of like they got little checkpoints. They were looking at guys, trunks and stuff just like you in our border. See if there's somebody smuggled underneath the floorboard. A. You have an Afghan in there. It's just a rug. Uh, I, You know, I feel really bad for those people because they made the mistake of trusting the United States and now we're gonna screw them and they may end up being dead over this or end up being imprisoned and tortured for their Connections to us. Make Work Awesome by Reinventing Your Business Culture With Pam Ross
"When we were talking before we were talking a little bit about about the aspect of culture with leadership but but no matter the size of the organization. You firmly believe that culture is something that should be worked on not just initially but continuously will one. Why are you so passionate about this. And then to where to somebody even begin. Okay so why. Am i so passionate about this in a few like l. Tell us quickly as i can but my first job work was awesome so i was fresh out of university. I worked for a restaurant company. That was growing quickly and i got promoted to their quote unquote training team. Which meant that. I was traveling across the country and actually into the states as well. I'm in canada. And i was opening restaurants and at twenty two. I became the leader of this opening team. I had a ton of autonomy over how we would get this restaurant up and ready and everyone trained and ready to serve our guests a ton of accountability budget of millions of dollars and tons of collaboration with anyone. From the franchise department. Legal department construction our operations everything and we would go and beyond site for weeks at a time. Sometimes months at a time training staff preparing the restaurant and opening these these restaurants. We had a ton of fun and we got great work done. And i truly like that was my first full time job out of university tonight. Thought work is so awesome. Like i am so excited. That i don't have to go back to school and do all those things because this work world that i am in is the best thing fast forward. A couple of years and i realized quickly. That work was not so awesome in most organizations so i came across people. Kind of just might a biding their time until five o'clock when they could go home. I worked in organizations where people were almost literally. You could almost see these badges of honour all over their clothing. That said things like. I'm working so hard i can't take a weekend off or i missed my son's piano recital because i am so busy and this focus on time at work people not feeling like there's or meaning in their work and ultimately work being soul-sucking and we're gonna spend about ninety thousand hours of our lives working and i just refused to agree that that can be a terrible of my

The Time I Found a Rat in the BBQ
"Story. This week is from amy stromer. Who you'll find on medium dot com and here is the time i found a rat in the barbecue and scream so loudly. My dead grandma heard me after a steamy summer day in sonoma's county california the air cooled as evening approached. I looked up from the kitchen sink to gaze at the majestic redwoods that lined our property. Those trees mark the edge of our land and the beginning of our neighbors massive yard displaying a variety of fruit trees and gorgeous flowers. The beauty was contrasted by my grumbling. Swear words as. I washed a never ending supply of dishes. Why can't anyone else in this house. Do dishes broken arms allergic to water trying to make me crazy note to self. Check the security cameras for evidence that my family is plotting against me. I glanced at my watch and all my angry dishes thoughts disappeared because it was five o'clock and angelic humming entered my head. Five o'clock is a socially appropriate our to open a bottle of wine especially as a stay at home. Mom five o'clock also means dinner. Prep the menu featured stakes that night. Because hydration is vital to sustaining life. I carried my wine with me to start the barbecue. I opened the white french doors. And sauntered across the redwood dick to the built-in barbecue. I placed my glass on the gray flagstones counter to the right of the grill and swung open the lid. A primal scream erupted from my mouth. As i slammed the grill lid down. Oh my god. There is a rat in the barbecue.

In Virginia, Military Veterans Take on Their Next Mission: Farming
"Almost half of America's farmers are planning to retire in the next five years, and it's not clear who will replace them. But a group in Alexandria may have a solution. They're working to introduce veterans to farming. As CBS national correspondent Chip Reid tells US vets and farmers have a lot in common. Jenny has camp spent 15 years as a United States Marine. Now she's a farmer with a focus on flowers. These are what I want. She learned the science and the art of farming here at Arcadia Farm in Alexandria, Virginia, on land once owned by George Washington. It's exhausting. It's hot. It's buggy, and it's the most satisfying and the happiest I've ever been. She began three years ago in Arcadia's part time veteran Farmer Reserve program that gives veterans and opportunity to decide if farming is for them. For her. It was a perfect fit. I think it's an incredible program for veterans transitioning from years of service into the next career, she now farms here full time and dreams of one day having a small farm of her own. Pamela Hess is executive director of Arcadia Farm and helped create the veteran farmer program. The goal is to give veterans an opportunity to earn a living in a new but surprisingly similar. Walk of life. They can work in all temperatures. They can carry very heavy loads. They're great at long term planning. They are not freaked out by crisis. Farmers and military folks have a very similar mindset when it comes to their work. Farming is a mission oriented business in the same way that military mission is you can't stop at five o'clock you stop when the mission is

I'm getting up at like five thirty on some of these days and teeing off by seven to try to finish before gets it gets ridiculous but i'm really enjoying it to be beat the heat. It is pretty ridiculous. I mean. I know it's hot in the summer but it's gotten out of hand a couple of times one seventeen the other day Tell you what. I bet you saw. Popovich getting up at five thirty losing some sleep perhaps because team. Usa not looking good right now and we know these sort of narrative with the international play is that they're more if more continuity usa is going to get everyone's best shot but this is this is really unexpected here. Oh and two out of the gates. There's another game coming up tonight. Eighteen and a half their lane to argentina. I liked them in the first half minus ten and a half but just in general is their level of concern here for a team. That's minus four hundred win the gold. Yeah by the way one of the things about tonight's game. I don't know how who's going to play for the us. They don't have a huge selection of wires only got nine of their Of their national team players because middleton holiday inn booker are in the final so they they've got some some other young guys there but it's considering it's back to back and not only. Is it back to back but yesterday's game was a five o'clock start and this today's game three o'clock local. I'm not sure what you're going to see from the us that game but argentina's in the same boat and Their in two so far so You know. I think there's two ways to look at this on one hand The teams that. They're playing her so much more talented than the teams that they were playing. Even five to seven years ago You know i. I mean i made a deal of this to you. Know they beat. Nigeria nine years ago when olympics by eighty three and five years ago by forty three but the team. They beat five years ago. Didn't have seven. Nba players on right and not only that but one of their best players Okafor jalil okafor didn't even play against the americans. He came back and played against the argentinians. On tuesday and fifteen points so they didn't even face a full scale nigeria teams. You can believe that it's not comparable but the other side of that is. The us team is loaded. You know two years ago. I went to china with team. Usa and they finished seventh in the world cup. And you know really was their worst finish in you know you know since two thousand four athens games which they still won bronze in but their worst finish over in the world cup and that team it. Just frankly wasn't very good. There was only one or two players in the whole roster would ever even been all stars and so while you can look at some things and see some cracks. That was not a representative team. I know that. Lebron and steph curry and anthony davis aren't playing but this is representative team. This team is loaded like a ten of the players. I think are were all stars in the last year and Almost everybody rotation was either all. Nba this year or should have been all nba. like durant. didn't naked 'cause injuries but trust me he's all nba player right so Having said that you see that much talent they should struggle and still win.

Almost like problem, says the changes causing some major concerns was actually Quite a bit of snow for late June early July. Gary Schneider with the National Weather Service says the historic heatwave contributed a lot to this massive melt something that normally happens throughout the summer, not just over a few days very uncommon to see that much snuggle that quickly. But he says the only real concern to come out of that quick melt is increased fire danger from higher elevations. Potentially a longer fire season and just basically fast forwarded our fire weather season. Things are gonna be drying out up there, Which doesn't really sit well with locals like Taconic Smith. We had about 175% snowpack, so to see that much snow in the Cascades diminished so quickly was just incredible. "From Lawrence earlier. Hey, Mike. Good morning. You're on How smart radio Big million Um My sister has a deck made out of white cedar. I stripped it all down, sanded it all down. And she picked out a stain that was dirt mahogany. I did half of the rails with the dark mahogany against the day she loved it. Five oclock this morning. I'm drinking my coffee. She calls me out. I hate the color can't standard you have to make it go away. So I am you wait, Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait and let's start with I love my sister. Oh, I love my sister. Just not right now, but the feelings I had to switch to Irish coffee right away. Because this is rightful white cedar around most with 15 spindles and each section And I've done about 90 ft. That's only half of it. So I thought maybe that would bleach the ox elect acid might bleach it out. I mean, you're never Mike. You're never going to get it all out of their, uh, the problem. The problem with that cedar is it's so porous, an abundant, absorbent rather That you're just not going to get it all out. And so the issue is going to be well, here's what I would do. You've got sections of it that are not done correct. Correct. Yeah, I mean, let's find a color that you like. First what you may end up having to do is strip the stain from there. Um and and and apply a stripper and then sand it and brush it all off, but that is a huge job on the spindles. And it would have body and okay now, one other thing, does she? Is she okay with darker colors? It's just that she doesn't like this dark color. I think after this morning, she has doesn't want any kind of dark color. Okay. Um, I want you to try. Um How are we going to get rid of this? Finish this dark color that I mean? It's you're going to have to apply I something like Mhm. Let's try something called Citrus Strip. Which is a paint and varnish stripper, and it's Citrus based. Hi accord of it first painted on Then use a Are you familiar with a drill brush, which you can put on the end of a Cordless drill. It's like a nylon brush. Yeah, they have. It's they're pretty. They come in different stiffness is and Put that on. Leave it there for half an hour as a test and one of the spindles and see if you put that on if it comes off. That will probably your best bet to see what you in fact have and then you need to wipe that down and then reapply a lighter colored stain, but because you have that dark base underneath there I'm just worried about blending everything across all of this What you may want to do just to hedge. Your bet on this thing is give your sister a couple days to get some opinions from some of her friends. And see if she can live with this color because I worry that you will end up with a blotchy mess, and then you'll end up having a paint it and that'll be the only way to blend it all in. And now we have a painted service on a deck. Which means you're going to be redoing it. You know more often, especially with cedar, because it just absorb, um, so much moisture. Down the line, and it's tough. You really when it comes to those colors, you need to really try him out, taken for test runs to make sure that everybody likes it. Okay. Thanks. So much for the phone call just bumping up against time here reading. You take a quick break and we'll be back right after this. But let me tell you about window Rama..

And coming up at five o'clock. We will talk about Governor Gavin Newsom's water policy debacle. His decision to make you the bad guy and, uh, water policy when in fact it's been the politicians that for decades have screwed whole situation up. Five oclock for that, But let's continue talking about our covidiot situation here. Yes, I like that term co video. It's because members of the government our government, public policy officials are acting like idiots. Absolutely. It's you saw the Nathan Fletcher tweet just a moment ago. Trying to question the masculinity, the virility, the potency of a baseball player who didn't want to get the Covid 19 shot. That's how like Sophomoric, infantile offensive. These folks have gotten Son of your damn business, Nate, nine of your business. They're giving out trips. They're giving out money. They're walking door to door. And so there we go. Uh, it's it's pretty desperate. So I call it idiots, Cove Idiots. They think people not getting covid 19 shots are idiots. I don't think that they're idiots. I think that they are taking a risk. Um, it is their right not to get a shot. I think that they are allowing fear to overwhelm their, um, decision to, uh, give themselves a shield from covid 19. We know Covid 19. The the the vaccine for Covid 19 works all the data shows that okay, it works. Um Way we know that vaccines can have some risks. Uh, but very mild, very rare. That being said if someone decides I don't I just don't want that in my body. We're gonna accept that. Just like If someone told me tomorrow I got the Covid 19 vaccine And But I'm still afraid of all these people running around that are not not not masking up and they're not getting vaccinated. I'm really afraid. Fine. I won't judge you wrongly, if you decide to stay home. Hope. Hold on you want because of your fear? You want everyone else? To change their behavior because of your fear. Yeah, That's not how it works, honey. Mhm. It's called freedom. You can't impose your will on others. Now you have the right to stay home. You have the right to wear a mask. If you're afraid others are doing the proper thing for for, you know, protecting you, Uh, if you don't believe in the vaccine that you, you know, arrogantly judge others for not believing in Well mm Got a problem there Because if you're vaccinated, you don't have a problem. Getting Covid 19. The data is overwhelming. So either you believe in the vaccine or you don't. Okay. I got your tongue on that one. Gotcha. But if you want to stay home, you can. I'm not going to judge you. I think that you know you're probably giving into the fear of risk. So on both sides. There are some fear factor's going on. But people get to make their own decision and they get to also live with the consequences by the way. That's how kind of FreedomWorks it's amazing. But Fauci is out there. Having been in my opinion, one of the worst reasons why one of the biggest reasons why people don't get the vaccine. Because of people like Dr Anthony Fauci. He has lied. He has gotten things wrong. And every time he does that People feel less confident and all the other stuff that he says Oh, the vaccine is perfectly safe. Well, aren't you also the same person who said that? You admitted that you lied to us about masking up. Uh huh. Now, why should I trust you now? So far. He's out there saying I just don't get it. I don't understand why people are hesitant. Just get over it, Dude. Audio one This is not complicated. We're not asking anybody to make any political statement one way or another. We're saying try and save your life. And that of your family and that of the community. It's you know, we have so many things. As you said so many diseases that I deal with that don't have solutions. It's very frustrating. You don't have a treatment. You don't have a vaccine. Here. We have a vaccine that's highly highly effective in preventing disease and certainly and preventing severe disease and hospitalization. It's easy to get. It's free and it's readily available. So you know you've got to ask. What is the problem? Get over it. Get over this political statement. Just get over it and try and save the lives of yourself in your family. Okay, Uh, let me see if I can unwind that word salad. Um, let's shut out with the beginning because he's he ends with the concept of Stop making political statements. You're saying you're making a political statement stop making a political statement by not taking the vaccine. By not taking the vaccine. You're making a political statement, so stop making a political statement and take the vaccine. So not taking the vaccine he's saying is a political statement. He's wrong about that. But he sees it as taking the vaccine. Not taking the vaccine is a political statement that he is what he said at the very end. What did he say at the beginning again? This is not complicated. We're not asking anybody to make any political statement. One way or another. Yes, you are. Hold on a second. That's coming back up the turn up card. I know a little bit about the English language, Travis. Did I just hear him say in the span of a 52nd audio clip. Two things that are completely diametrically opposed. Sounds like he's once again, contradicting his own words himself, he says at the very end, stop making your damn political statements by not getting the vaccine. But in the beginning, what does he say? This is not complicated. We're not asking anybody to make any political statement one way or another. We're saying try and save your law are as you are trying to make a political saving, cause you're saying people not getting the vaccine are making inherently a political statement, which I would disagree with that assessment. There's nothing to do with politics. This has to do with People making their own damn decisions for healthcare, You idiot. Something tells me that you support Roe v. Wade. Right, Fauci. Gotcha. So what do you always say? When you put on those vagina hats and go out and do your rallies? It's my daddy. It's my choice. I'm not saying Fauci has The wrong anatomy. If that's what you thought. The whole thing is just wildly. Surreal and. I still can't believe it really happened. You've been working on it for a while. How did the idea for the book originate. Yes i've been working on it for about four years. Started in may two thousand seventeen when i was watching Several confederate statues come down in my hometown new orleans so i was watching the statues of pg beauregard jefferson davis robbie lee amongst others be taken down and i was watching these statues. Come down from my home here in maryland and thinking about what it meant that i grew up in a majority black city in which there were more to enslavers than there were to enslave people.

Thank you so much. i'm excited. Yeah well. I want to start with this. I thought we could go back to the early days. I always like to know what people were like as little girls. So what was little bethany like. Can you tell me about her. I was similar to the way i am now. I always be to my own drum. I've always been. I was an only child. And i moved around a lot. I went to so many different schools. Thirteen different schools so i was always used to being new and i was grown up very very early. So as a little girl. I was adventurous and independent and alone a lot very analytical. Because i was alone a lot so i was sort of coming up with my own imagination and creativity and i saw a lot of crazy things i worked at the race. Track is very little kid. I would get up at five o'clock in the morning and go to the racetrack to be what they call a hot walker when they excise the horses and then you have to wash them and cool them doubt not though like driving race. Track the horse race. Track the horse. Okay cool. I was very independent as well. My parents were both working out of the house and a feel like that's what led me to be sort of entrepreneurial like i had to learn how to solve problems for myself at such a young age so i feel like maybe that's something we have in common.

Physical Activity Researcher
Prof. Kitrina Douglas Talks About Narrative Theory And Identity
"Yeah if i challenge you. Couldn't we say that nowadays especially when the dual career has become kind of quite influential scores. So the idea that athletes need to be combining school and sport at the same time so now it could be even more dominant idea that you are not allowed to be just an athlete but you also have to be a student that you need to get your education at the same time. So it's becoming another form. Dominant narrative telling you that you have to have at least these two identities a rate land you battle I cool the national anti-doping panel who are involved says who sit and hear cases of who have been found guilty of committing an anti-doping events and want to appeal that bam. And i remember a few years ago i sat on a hearing panel. And there's three qc and two former athletes who have had representative histories in this book career. So we sit as a three-person powell to hear the uk anti doping and the athletes defense. This particular athlete was at a really well known university in the uk. One of the best universities you who was on their talk team. In particular sports and this athlete the cohort that he was in was studying light in the library. And they all took a tablet so they wouldn't sleek so that they could get their assignment in at five o'clock in the morning and then this athlete got on a coach and went to a particular european sporting event and one inch and he was tested off. What's four years. He lost his scholarship to the university. He lost his place in particular sport. I won't go into specifics but he was doing what he was supposed to do. All of the learning on the sport. And i just felt just do the sports just to the spoke for now. Why push yourself so much in the education as well that you have to attain such a high standard in that you called win. I felt i felt that this athlete was under too much pressure to perform. Both of those things and i'm really uncomfortable by chance. The jewel career in theory sounds great but in practice. I think there's a lot of problems with it because exactly as your say we. We expect athletes to perform in both of these areas. Now yeah yeah. Those are the questions that i've been looking into as well. It seems to be especially with the young women who often really put effort into both of them so they want to be perfect in everything but they also want to have like active social life. And you know probably you cannot do everything at the same time up to you. know perfection. yeah. I think there's to sing it now. In the uk and of course children develop while at school but the narrative this in the newspapers and also and i've had some young people interviewed is my life is going to be ruined because i have been at school this last year. Now i did see hack today. We can learn in lots of different ways. There's the hidden curriculum and if everyone across the road is of school. It's a level playing field so we don't have to say will your disadvantage the have been voltages to being home with your family and going back to my life. My father would take him to school to found events. He couldn't necessarily have holidays during school times so he takes. I did i was it affected effect. I my education. Well done better in my agency exam but does not really match so we have to see. The live isn't justified education. It's about our relationships. It's about understanding the world and what we're doing. And so i feel everything is getting to submit and true and people allowed to grow develop in thomas best then i remember again. My brother say you'll probably late developer. And i've got no executive but it gave me a narrative it doesn't have to stop playing golf five. I can stop when. I was seventeen and lots of people said to me when i was starting at seventeen. Oh you're too old. You remember someone at the gulf of on that and say who do you think you. I can't pitch up and say going to become a professional golfer. That's not how it works. You go to be town. Id spotted at five and you go big on this particular pathway so can work that way but it can also work lots of different ways that were allowing enough experimentation a walk. I think for those of us that don't follow the gender the typical pathway. We defended public side so i was very creative player. I learned how to play shots. Because i taught

Coronacast
Are we going to meet our vaccination target or what?
"Hello this is karina. Cost a daily podcast. All about the coronavirus. I'm health reported teigen thailand physician and journalists dr norman swan. It's wednesday the third of march and norman. We're already more than a week into our vaccine. Roll out here in australia. Which makes us old hands at it now but there were reports over the past few days. That strategy hasn't quite met the targets that i was expecting to in terms of numbers. Vaccinations delivered in this first week. And we've got a pretty big target for october as being sort of the end of the roll out the end of the first big sizes of the rollout. What are some of the issues that have cropped up. I mean it's such early days. It feels a little unfair to stop critiquing the performance when we're on the awakened but what are some of the issues that have been identified as maybe slowing us down a bit. So far rove is clearly been a major cities of hiccups with the commonwealth rollout in aged care. As we've been saying in current cast in fact the main game is boorda. Workers airport workers flight crew and hotel quarantine workers and what we should be doing but we're not as their families in households. So that's the main game securing our borders. And doing that hyper quickly. And you've really got to do that with the vaccine because it's going to take you twelve weeks to complete it with the astra and it's not going to be as good coverage with the with the new variant possibility so there's been a cold up in aged care because the commonwealth doesn't run anything have his own services therefore they've got a contract they probably should have contracted it to the states. But they've going into private providers and been cups which have been well publicized so it's to take the commonwealth a bit of time to get their act together and also some of the states have been a little bit slow so this combination of supply of scene. But also as marion kane or imply. Just today the bookings haven't gone quite as quickly as they imagined. And they could cope with more bookings. And i think there's been a hint of that in some other jurisdictions so people have got to come forward when they're booked and have that but around the world there has been a problem with people. Not turning up for bookings people don't turn up for their appointments and that means that you have a system in place where you've got people on standby people that you can take a. We've got jobs over. can you. At five o'clock in unexpectedly get your vaccine. So we saw we had the new south wales primary gladys and yesterday criticizing the maybe lack of communication between the states and federal government. Is there improvements. That could be made there. Probably and the minister of sought yesterday to have a press conference which is probably in part induced. By the new south wales premier having criticized the federal government for not being clear with the doses. And how they're going to arrive. I mean i think some of the surprise here is that if i had a long time to develop this. And it's still not clear how the next phases are going to be rolled out how people are going to be told what booking system is going to be like. Gp is still not clear how they're going to work into it. They've had their letter saying they've been accepted as a as a center for you know the practice to deliver vaccines but even then the ph primary health. Networks are often not clear whether or not the four thousand six hundred practices are indeed the ones that will end up doing it. So there's a fair bit of uncertainty another area of uncertainties that third pretty good administration stopping doctors commenting on the relative efficacy of vaccines. Because they're calling it. Advertising saying the vaccine come to my practice sits behind that there's a lot influx. We'll get our act together. We're good immunizing country. People will come. Forward is just that. We don't want to lose momentum.

"five oclock" Discussed on KTAR 92.3FM
"A R news 92 3 FM, where news and entertainment hang out. It's the Gators and Jack Show. So I saw this. I think on social media It was a headline. It said it said something like Governor Doug Ducey suspends letter grades and I'm thinking, man. If I was a kid, I would love that. How awesome would that be? Did you ever want when you were a kid? You knew that your you know your report card was coming out. You like just someone could just like, burn it. All the time. All the time you talk all the time I got kicked out. Our school's way, ran out of schools that my mom's like I paint people in Tokyo. They won't take you. So that's not what governor do. See. Did he didn't suspend letter grades killed, suspended pass fail, right, But this is more about schools getting a letter great. Schools. In a nutshell. Schools get letter grades depending on how well a school shows growth on the A Z merit test. So maybe you've driven by his school and you see, you know, on their billboard or whatever. Hey, we're in a plus school. Um, so that's the great that do see suspending. So he signed a bill suspends the school grading system for the year because the pandemic This is a good thing. A lot of people are wondering what this means is a good thing. Because with home learning and teachers on the crew, the quarantine for weeks at a time, kids not having access. I mean, okay on it. Yeah, you could. This would not be fair because you, you just look at this and you could realize there's gonna be a lot of kids, especially and underprivileged neighborhoods that you're just gonna fall either so far behind and that is a situational thing. Not a teaching thing at this moment. Yeah, it's it's too crazy and messy and chaotic out there to give school letter grades, you know, hinging solely on those test results. So, but the other thing is, you know some teachers, they get a bonus from that. What happens there? That's I don't have the answer for that. But our teacher's going to not get that small bonus because the schools are not going to be grated. Well, you can't give somebody a bonus. If the work wasn't done well, the work was done. But as far as the outcome, right, like, you know, if it's if the outcome is you there are they even going to take the test? I think it's some. I mean, you know some of these things anyways, by the way, is just the worst things in the world. These tests but It's It's tough. I mean, do you give them some sort of you? You say look, instead, we're just going to split it and give you guys some bonus. I think they should. Yeah. I mean, I think they should get something. It's not Not the pandemic. It's a pandemics fault that all this is happening, and plus, we did a story earlier or there's a survey out. We're dead last on teacher pay, so to take a small bonus from Arizona teachers, not a good idea. Dallas braces for record electricity use as temperatures plunge
"Uh, I looked at my little cell phone here. And it's forecasting on Monday. The overnight low Sunday to Monday is one degree. Here in North Texas here with more bread, Barton Brad that Tell me that's going to change some. What are the models? Scary, scary. Ling Lee sparingly up staying in that in that general direction. Well. I'm gonna be honest with you. I do not know exactly what the low is going to be Monday night, but I'm believing it's going to be in single digits. As we've talked the last couple of days. Some of the some of the models well, some of them have a cold bias. And some don't and that's why I try to look at three or 45 different models. You know, right time. And and see who disagrees with each other and see who's lining up. And when you sense more model agreement on that than you know, you kind of go ahead with your forecast, But I would say this Single digit lows in Dallas Fort Worth can cause damage to the infrastructure. We got down to 16 degrees. During that Super Bowl weekend, 2011 and some of the power plants went down because the natural gas valves were not well enough, Winterized. To keep the electricity running, so I hope they're taking the plant. ERCOT is working on that They're expecting record electrical demand Monday Tuesday winter demand so they're trying to get ready for that sure, but here's the deal. Beyond the temperature forecasting snow in Texas. Pretty tough two or three days in advance, could kind of a stretch and trying to predict how many inches is no, we're going to get it really is kind of a fool's errand this far out, but the best we can do is tell you what we have right now. We're expecting some light. Freezing drills with more actually had a little snow fall out it. Jax were earlier this morning, but Little drizzle tomorrow mainly to the West snow flurries mainly to the West. Tomorrow and Saturday night through maybe Sunday morning, And then this first storm system starts moving in from the West. We think it's going to Just kind of give us a slow, steady increase in snowfall during the day and into the nighttime hours on Sunday. So again we're good today. We're probably good tomorrow Sunday. We're gonna see snow beginning and it could get real heavy overnight between midnight and five o'clock in the morning. That's the time frame we're working with right now. That's midnight Monday through five o'clock. Monday morning and You consider that we just
