Why a dedicated Zoom device makes sense
"You'll recall that earlier this week I had a lot of fun with that new Microsoft Eighty, five inch dedicated device for teams meetings. It's only twenty two thousand dollars little much for my budget I. Don't know about you but it's been a week for dedicated video meeting devices after that Microsoft announcement though I gotTa love, Amazon's answer which came later in the week, a dedicated ten inch unit for two hundred, fifty dollars the echo show ten, which lets you go through Alexa to connect to zoom skype or Alexa to Alexa direct calls two hundred and fifty dollars. Twenty two, thousand dollars I think I'll take the cheaper one Alex, thank you. I think these dedicated devices when they're priced, right make a lot of sense i. mean think of the kids were stuck at home taking school on their laptops. Now, they could have one more unit just displaying the teacher and lessons which would give their hands free for schoolwork and no taking on the laptop make sense for those of you who are taking meetings all day. The same issue applies isn't it hard to take notes when your laptop screen is filled with Speaker video windows. Plus this way you wouldn't have to worry Webcam placement after all his best to be at eye level which most people ignore and not have the Webcam looking up your Chin that requires putting the laptop atop of a bunch of books which gives you a better look, but it makes it really hard to type. So the savvy speaker or student would have to constantly move the books around that dedicated service on the desk would solve the issue living atop the. Books that could just stay there and not have to be moved around. So Amazon has the echo show ten, which will be out later this year it'll let you connect the Webcam to the TV via the hundred and twenty dollar fired TB Cube device. So so maybe it won't be watching eighty five inches how about fifty or sixty sounds pretty good p particularly when you consider that you can buy a good fifty inch these days for about three hundred dollars. Now, the Amazon solutions won't be available until later this year. But if you have a facebook portal video chat device, you can use the dedicated unit now to connect to zoom because the update started rolling out today. The portal started one, hundred, twenty, nine dollars, and they're available in three sizes at eight, inch, ten inch or fifteen point, six inch. The addition that connects the TV which is called. Portal. TV is not yet supported for the zoom calls meanwhile, that's not all folks next week on Wednesday Google holds its annual fall hardware product event where it's expected to unveil a new top of the line smartphone and updated streaming device and a new take on the nest home hub video display unit last year's nest. Didn't work with zoom or initially even with Google's meat though it does now but not zoom zooms coming later, and I know I can pretty much rest assured that the new Google video display unit we'll be working with zoom and hopefully working well
The PS5 is the biggest game console in modern history
"Playstation five little story here. So PSI hardware images show the size of the biggest game console of modern history. And so ladies and gentlemen breakout those tape measures. So new PS five images of come our way the Taiwan's National Communications Commission. So according to Sony the PS five. Sits fifteen point four inches tall ten point two, four inches deep. And four inches wide for comparison, the xbox series XS eleven point eight, five inches, tall five point nine, four inches eve, and five point nine, four inches way. I'm GonNa try to pull these images of Brittany apple up So I heard this news and I just bought a new entertainment console, which was really stupid because I should have waited until we got everything but thankfully, everything fits in my slots. So I'll be. Okay. So. Yeah. I was a little nervous also, if you're curious about the xbox series s an ex or maybe just one or the other anyway, you can go on their twitter account on the eighteenth of September, they tweeted out fat is so fat they tweeted out a link to a cut out you can print it out and cut it out a model size of the what the Xbox is going to how big it's going to be. A paper cut out. It's really cute. So if you want to build it and make sure it will fit in your areas, you can do that. So I know it's on the website, but it's probably just easier to find it on their twitter account. But yeah, that's a fat boy.
A Love Letter to Short Men
"DOT COM and at her website Carlin Betcha. Dot Com and here is a love letter to short men. Your height is not an issue unless you make it one. It's one of the most common openers I see on dating apps a man's height. It's usually the first thing men list and sometimes height is the only thing listed. Yep just height nothing else as if those two numbers measured in feet and inches contain multitudes. I understand why it happens. We are a society obsessed with looks we treat beauty and both genders as a currency attractive people make more money are viewed as more agreeable and somehow more valuable. This is part of the halo effect, a psychology term where we assign one single trait beauty to other characteristics kindness. Personally I have never seen a woman who cares about height in fact, I find short men hot, not all of them but many. Let. Me Tell you a not hot short man's story. I recently wanted to date with a five foot five inch guy within fifteen minutes of our meeting. He ass is my height a problem. It was not until he mentioned it. I had not even looked at the height he listed on his profile. I then spent the next twenty minutes assuaging his fragile ego and explaining why many women like short men it was exhausting at one point I think he read the weariness in my slumped shoulders and tried to self correct. I'm only asking because you're right about love and sex. Sure if you went on a date with a dermatologist, would you ask her to examine the fungus between your toes? I didn't say that, but I wanted to my sarcasm is a feral beast. Then, there are the many many short guys who lie about their height. You know who you are. I once went on a date with a guy claiming to be five foot eight inches. He was five foot four inches. That's a four inch lie. If we're keeping track I wore three inch heels for that date that put me at five feet eight inches. Greeted him with a hug. This was pre pandemic days his head landed on my chest. Awkward. For most women height is not a deal breaker but lying is So. Here it is short men the painful truth your height is not the Lady Boehner killer. You think it is it your lack of confidence that makes women's ovaries shrivel up and never want to go on another date again, I have dated a lot of sexy short men and they all had one thing in common nothing to prove when Tom Cruise five foot seven inches was sexiest man alive multiple times. Did anyone add a footnote sexy for a short Guy Hell? No. When Bruno Mars five, foot five inches shakes what his momma gave him are women getting out there measuring. Sticks Adriano. then. There's Napoleon. Napoleon. Never had complex about his height nor was he even really that short you can feel his confidence oozing out of the impatient love letters. He wrote to Josephine one read a kiss on your heart and one much lower down much lower. Nowhere in that letter, will you find a postscript saying unless my height makes you not in the mood? Yet Napoleon somehow got his name attached to the height inferiority complex known as the Napoleon. Complex. The Napoleon Complex states that short men tend to be more aggressive lie more and try to compensate for their short stature by being exceptionally cruel. But researchers found the opposite to be true. One study from Nyu phone short men are thirty two percent less likely to divorce than tolman. The study also found women married to short men reported greater happiness and short men did more housework than tolman. Yes. There is a correlation between happiness and a freshly floor. Clearly short men are doing something, right? I pulled over twenty of my most dateable girlfriends for this article I asked the same question. Are you attracted to short men most had similar answer? It depends on the guy that's a nice way of saying that is not the package. It's the meat inside. So

Rejuvenation and Propagation With Ken Druse
"I called you the other day and I'm like Oh, it's a mess everything. So overgrown and I'm telling you about my call is that's taken the. Anna's hip in the Salvia swamped by the whatever and you're laughing at me and so. What's the time for can? Besides facelifts. But just just because you aren't having guests visit doesn't mean you let the whole thing go to pot. Or you're thoughts go to pot. He's GonNa Discipline Me I publicly out loud on the radio. You said, you're pinching things so they get kind of thicker but. You May. It may be time to cut stuff back I. Guess I'm I'm using a modest sounding verb but yeah, you're right some cutbacks will you I have these big balls you've been here and you know people who visited if seen them through like big low terra cotta bowls on the patio and other places they're kind of you know and I group smaller pots around them but they're they're sort of the big statement centerpiece things for my annuals usually and and you know. Not. Everything grows at the same rate and put it all in when it's small, you know little things from the garden center but then something's grow more lushly than others and so like the Coleus, for instance. 'cause you know. Yeah. When you're cutting those Coleus bag you you mentioned that you could route them in water. You can also in some situations, just stick them back in the same container if you've got space and then that'll get even more lush and full without hanging over and losing its Bottomley's and stuff. Because, when you when you pinch or break off that parent plant branch and you'll get more leaves on that one, and then you have these pieces that you can either sticking or route in water or I like to use per light. Okay. So containers with like a pot of per light. SMALLPO- of per light and. Moist in the per light Tampa down really hard that really seems to help, and then I drill a hole in the per like with a pencil and sticking my cutting and firm the per light back around the cut and again, and you want to remove a couple of bottom leaves of the cutting the cuttings about. Four to six nodes long. So it's depending on the type of plant. Three to five inches long and some some plant. Coleus. Might route and two to four weeks. Then you have a new plant with roots and you carefully pry it out of the per light or in the case of water, you want to move it when the roots are less than an inch and a half long and sometimes roots made him water have a little trouble adjusting to a lower oxygen or higher oxygen medium. But anyway, you can stick them back in the same container that you took them from or just what you need Margaret. Another container of Coleus definitely need that. That's absolutely what I need. 'cause I'm doing such a good job managing the ones that I have this year. But seriously it has been kind of an epicure in the sense of We all are realities are changed Completely you know our patterns of life are changed. I mean, I'm stating the obvious and and on top of that in our region and many other regions, there's been severe weather so we have had. I've had almost no rain until a hurricane in fact, I should ask you how did you do during the hurricane that was just a couple of days ago I had a couple of inches of rain. Outages Day or two but not. Terrible terrible like many areas nearby had much. No, you were praying for rain. Also, a lot of areas they're still places New Jersey that don't have electricity. We lost power for almost twenty four hours. But we had five and a half inches of rain, and then that's stopped and then the wind came in the wind was really a lot of wind but. Knock would not trees and I've got tree did trees here. So I thought Oh that's GonNa be something there was there was one stick about four and a half feet long from the ash tree that was stuck into the lawn straight up. It's always funny when that happens in a big storm when it's also like spear gets thrown and it yeah, it really lands like right as if someone. INSERTED. It with with force while someone did. Yeah. Now, I had a couple of inches of rain and ninety. I keep saying to myself is this whole year? The theme weatherwise has been it never rains, but it pours it won't rain for a month practically and then we get the torrential gully washers. It's almost no rain. Yeah. Half. An hour of tons of you know you think finally and then it turns out it's dry under the trees sometimes. And you got to listen to half an inch but I was thinking about what we were talking about just before if you make a new plant and you potter it up of Coleus or a sweet potato vine or Begonia. You can carry. You can try to carry that over in a very sunny window inside and by March that's probably not going to be a very pretty plant, but you can cut that back and it'll make new growth and then make cuttings of the new growth and you can save a lot of money because you can use that to fill your those cuttings to fill your containers.
South Africa reaches out to WHO for help with COVID-19 response
"Lecturer in international politics at. So seen in here in London Phil Clarke, welcome back fill just tell us what what what you picked out this morning the World Health Organization in South Africa's is a big headline. Yes, this is a story Emma that's running on Bloomberg and a and a lot of the international news type is this morning that's South Africa has really reached out to the World Health, organization and asked for some emergency help in terms of dealing with corona virus. So the WHO, today, sending, what they call a surge team. To South Africa, I've only done this in two or three other countries around the world. I'm so forty-three WHO experts landing in South Africa today really to help the South African government try to coordinate its corona virus response on the background to this is that South Africa has just hit a five hundred thousands of coronavirus cases that puts it in the top five inch infection writes around the world and there are real worries about just how quickly Karenna virus is spreading in South Africa. So yeah, that's why we're seeing this this whol emergency response today. What will this team doing? That they're going to be doing a couple of things. Firstly they're really helping the south. African. Government with with track and trace So this has been a real problem in South Africa just been very hard to set up a an effective surveillance system, full corona virus and then the second one is in fact, coordinating the kind of community response to Corona. Virus Encouraging people at the local level to go and get tested to stick to the lockdown measures the South African government had been really struggling with community compliance and said who is going to be helping with that as

Twenty-Five Years Later, Ford Resurrects the Bronco
"If you're an offroad aficionado or even just WANNA be. This story is a big deal. After a quarter century Ford is resurrecting the Ford Bronco a direct rival to the jeep. Ford produce the Bronco for thirty straight years starting in nineteen, sixty six. The vehicle had only two doors reportedly one reason why Ford discontinued it in Nineteen ninety-six consumer sentiment was shifting toward four doors. Historians say the Bronco Developed Cult Status. After it was discontinued today, the beefy muscular vehicles, a sentimental favourite restored vintage models can sell for up to two hundred thousand dollars with a corporate unit called Ford icons. Ford is Heavily Marketing Nostalgia that division includes the Bronco, a Mustang and a new line of Ford F one fifty pick-up trucks, including a hybrid version, and soon to be debuted all electric. And Nostalgia sells, but it's far from the only reason. The automakers releasing a Bronco for the twenty first century. The company is capitalizing on a trend according to the automaker offroad vehicle, so called rugged SUV's. Twice, as popular as regular SUV's CNN reports that has engineered the new bronco models for quote hard off road driving. You know the kind that allows you to quote. Get far from civilization. An even stay there for awhile. Is the perfect escape for pandemic induced cabin fever. Get a dose of Adrenalin while avoiding the plague. It's a combination made for advertising. Heaven Kit needs to be the jeep wrangler as the Juggernaut of off road vehicles. CNBC reports that automakers have been trying to quote dethrone the Wrangler for decades. Without much success. Even during the pandemic GPS kept selling Fiat Chrysler sold an average of seventeen thousand jeep wrangler every month for the last five years according to the Detroit news last year, almost a quarter, million wrangler flew off dealership. Lots and experts say jeep owners are loyal. To a fault. Still Ford executives have moxie. They're predicting sales of two hundred thousand broncos over the next year, according to Automotive News. and. Keep in mind that the low end version of the new line. The broncos sport won't even be out until years end higher end versions of the Bronco won't be at dealerships until next spring. Ford is doing everything it can to make the Bronco enticing enough to away jeep lovers, and of course to persuade new off roaders to come into the Ford camp that includes besting the ramblers largest tires thirty three inches with whopping thirty five inch tires, Ford says a Bronco outfitted with the almost three foot in diameter tires can easily go through a couple of feet of water models also come with removable roofs and doors. Drivers can store the doors in the Bronco. For, it says. At about thirty thousand dollars, the price of the two door base Bronco comes in at only two hundred dollars more than the base price of the jeep wrangler at the top in a limited number of first edition for door Bronco started about sixty one thousand dollars, Ford began taking one hundred dollar deposits on Broncos last Monday when it released the new line I edition reservation slots sold out within a couple of hours. Still as bullish as the auto press is about the Broncos, the release comes against bleak backdrop for the auto industry. Overall vehicle sales plummeted when covid nineteen emerged shut the industry down for two months recently, both Ford and GM reported second-quarter sales declines of about thirty three percent from a year earlier jeep parent, Fiat Chrysler did even worse with sales down forty percent. And that puts a lot of pressure on Ford to live up to its promise of adding a billion dollars to the bottom line next year through Bronco Sales. And it adds pressure Chrysler to keep jeep at the top of the OFFROAD HEAP Stakes is high as the boulder strewn rocky mountains. The war between Bronco in gene. We'll be fascinating to watch.

Does TV Resolution Matter?
"When we're talking about TV, we're talking about one big thing. Resolution Sharper Images, Crisper Action, immaculate detail in everything from sports to documentaries to video games in just a few years. We've seen the race move from seven twenty to ten eighty P, two four K. and beyond, and this brings us to today's question. Does TV resolution matter spoiler alert? The answer is yes absolutely or maybe a better way to say it is yes, absolutely, but with a footnote before we get to all the weird stuff that footnote represents. Represents! We need to understand resolution itself. Resolution starts with the Pixel. A Pixel is the smallest possible unit of a digital image, a single point of light when you hear manufacturers top about resolution there, describing the number of pixels on a given screen, so an old school cathode Ray, TV would display the equivalent of three hundred thousand pixels on screen while an HDTV could pack more than two million pixels into a screen. The STANDARD WAY FOR TV makers to classify resolution is with numbers followed by a letter. The numbers indicate the. The rows of horizontal pixels so think four eighty, I ten eighty P, and so on the bigger the number, the more pixels on the screen, the letters at the end of the numbers stand for I is interlaced and P for Progressive Scan. The differences are important, but fairly complicated, so let's save that one for another day. Using more pixels to create an image creates a smoother, less blocking or pixelated image, so at first glance it sounds as if more pixels equal a better experience, right not so fast slick. Here's where our footnote. Footnote comes in Pixel. Density itself is not the only factor in the race toward a better sharper image. If we're looking at resolution as the ability to discern fine details, several other factors come into play for instance. What's the source of the image? What role does color play? How close or far are you from the screen? And how big is the screen for example? If you're watching a small screen, say twenty six inches from ten or more feet away. Your I won't be able to tell the difference between anything from four. Four eighty two four K., the farther you are away from the image source, the smoother the picture appears as for the size of the screen. Well sure you could have a twenty six inch TV with ten eighty line resolution, and it would still have the same number of pixels as a fifty five inch, TV with otherwise identical specs, but the pixels would be physically smaller so in this context size definitely matters if you put a twenty six inch HDTV with seven twenty line resolution next to another twenty six inch HDTV with ten. Ten Eighty, you may not be able to tell the difference between the two. These are just a few of the pertinent factors in the overall equation. There's another big question here to does the human I have a resolution limit. How many individual pixels can the human I perceive? And that's a tricky question to our eyes are not cameras, instead their an initial step to an intricate process, involving loads of unconscious estimation and guesswork in our brains. It is true that after a certain point, the human eye is unable to differentiate or Or appreciate the differences between some Pixel densities with the right source material equipment and viewing distance four K. really can make a difference for example if you're sitting a few feet from a sixty inch four K. television with an ultra high definition video feed, you'll be able to tell if it suddenly switches to regular hd or brace yourself standard definition, the limits of HDTV a failure of technology. There are limit of our biology, if we can't tell the difference between a lower resolution, twenty six inch TV in an HD version then. Then! There's not much incentive to buy the latest ultra high definition TV set, but this isn't the end of the story. The race for higher resolution continues cameras that shooting four K. have already become the norm and each year bring new innovations. These ultra high definition technologies may not make for a better picture on a home television, but in a movie theater it makes a big difference in the future. We might not care as much about resolution. It's possible that other technologies like high dynamic range may become the next big thing.

What Are The World's Biggest, Baddest Jigsaw Puzzles?
"Even before. It became a popular way to while away the hours days and weeks during isolation putting together. Jigsaw Puzzles was a favourite family activity. But did you know that? Jigsaw Puzzles have their origin in education. Sir John Spills Berry an English engraver and map maker in the mid. Seventeen hundred is credited with creating the first jigsaw puzzle in seventeen seventy six by attaching a map of the world to a piece of wood then cutting the country's out teachers used the maps to teach geography to their students and a recreational activity was born spills berry would hardly recognize his creation today in the early part of the twentieth century. Jigsaw Puzzles were used as marketing tools often given away or sold for mere pennies today companies. Still use puzzles for creative marketing. Take Kodak for instance. It's selling what it. Claims is the quote world largest jigsaw puzzle. We HAVE TO ADMIT. This thing is pretty huge. The fifty one thousand three hundred piece puzzle features twenty-seven injuries from around the world and when completed measures twenty eight point five feet by six point. Two five feet. That's eight point six meters by one point nine meters and this beast costs more than four hundred dollars but all due respect to the Kodak Jigsaw puzzle. The world's largest jigsaw puzzle by surface area. According to Guinness World Records was put together in Dubai in July of twenty eighteen. The puzzle was an honor of the year of Ziyad a year long tribute to the founding father of the United Arab Emirates. The late Shahid there are more than twelve thousand pieces in the puzzle which was an image of Zayed the official record size measured sixty five thousand nine hundred and five point one seven square feet which is six thousand one hundred twenty two point six eight square meters putting together. Jigsaw puzzles is a Greek group activity but one thousand six hundred students of the University of Economics Ad Hoc Human City in Vietnam took it to the next level. When they completed the jigsaw puzzle with the most pieces on record five hundred fifty one thousand two hundred and thirty two to be exact when it was finished the puzzle measured just over. Forty eight by seventy six feet about fourteen by twenty three meters. It took the students seventeen hours to create the massive puzzle which featured a lotus flower with six petals. But what about the hardest jigsaw puzzle? Ever it contains only nine pieces and it's called the puzzle nine it was designed by Asaka. It includes a small board. The nine pieces include right angles and curved edges. That fit together in several combinations. Think Tetris but way harder. The challenge is getting the last piece to fit. It's nearly impossible to fit all the pieces on the board. It took Chris Ramsey a magician video creator and master puzzle or two hours nine minutes to solve the ice nine and by his own description. He was completely exhausted. By the end of the experience. You Sokha created another equally. Difficult puzzle called the Jigsaw Puzzle. Twenty nine the challenge here is to fit twenty nine pieces into a five by five inch. That's twelve by twelve centimeter trae. It comes with five corner pieces. Just let that sink in. Then there's the largest hand cut wooden jigsaw puzzle Guinness record held by Dave Edmunds England. Who created a forty thousand seven hundred sixty three piece puzzle celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee the puzzle which featured thirty-three Images of Jubilee celebrations was twenty by eight feet? That's six by two and a half meters. When completed though it collapsed soon after Evans completed it took him and force. More than sixteen days to rebuild the puzzle and move at Sandringham where it went on display and was confirmed as the Guinness World record holder. We spoke by email with Caitlin vesper records manager with Guinness World Records North America. She said one of the main criteria for all Guinness World Records titles is that they must be breakable. Every record titled S- monitored is open to being challenged which allows for all kinds of record breaking opportunities all over the world. The Guinness record for most Jigsaw puzzle pieces tattooed on the human body belongs to the aptly named enigma. Sometimes known as Paul Laurence. Who'S A sideshow performer? Actor musician originally from Seattle in two thousand eleven enigmas set the record for having two thousand one hundred twenty three puzzle pieces tattooed on his body from head to toe in no word on whether anyone comes close to second but many puzzle records are held by companies such as the record for the largest spherical jigsaw puzzle. It measured fifteen point seven feet. That's four point. Seven seven meters in circumference and it was made by unit industrial limited in Hong Kong and featured scene from Winnie the Pooh vesper said brands and businesses. Come to US looking to harness the power of record-breaking to commemorate anniversaries and celebrations or to highlight the launch of a new product. Whole communities can come together to attempt to record to a like in March of two thousand nineteen when more than one thousand seven hundred people formed the largest human jigsaw puzzle piece on record a I. The record raised awareness for autism spectrum disorder. The puzzle pieces the symbol for the autismspeaks organization. Vesper explained each Guinness World. Records title has a set of guidelines. That must be followed. The record for the largest human jigsaw puzzle piece is a great example to highlight. This is considered one of our largest human image categories and the idea is to have a group of people gathered together to form a recognizable image. We define a jigsaw puzzle piece as an oddly shaped interlocking and Tessa leading piece designed to be part of a larger picture. The human image to be created would need to be instantly recognizable as a puzzle piece and not an entire puzzle. This record title can be broken if another group creates same image with a larger group of people. Anybody up for the challenge.

Let's say that bulletproof kevlar vest. So are they have already a tactical assault life operating suit? And they call it the weaponized iron, man suit. And again when we originally started talking about this. I said there's graphing and then there's sort site which is graphing, but it's three D printed, which means it's thicker than the atom sick. Which makes it more of a layered kind of protection, and it is just phenomenal. I looked at a video that was showing heat resistance. And it shows a great sense, wrapping material put a heart's on one side of that material at eight hundred degrees and the face of the graphing where the torch flame was hitting with two hundred and sixty degrees. So you can see that it really drops the temperature. That graphing that inspect was sixty degrees. It makes an excellent heat shield when you start talking about shortsighted or graphing that's three the friend. You're talking about something that is phenomenally strong. So it's a graphing as we talked about. It's it's optically transparent. When it's in its original mode. Other words when us in Hatem six why watch pay person take a square of graphing that was oh, I'm guessing five inches by five inches. Put it over the top of a drinking glass, and she poured salt water from the ocean, and to it and drank it, then there's no salt left in how how well it takes to begin charities out of anything. So in other Houston is going to be used for and I will talk about that in a minute to. But so there's just a wide variety of uses for industries all kinds of industries. Got for now that's super competitors. Wearable electric, it's certainly going to be a replacement for silicone because faster lighter and smaller right now, they're able to put like a ban off switches so to speak on a chip. And in the future, they they'll to do way more than that. So you can see that it's become something that is electrcity goes through its way faster than silicone IBM's. We've been working on this stuff, and they're using it to work for quantum computing and optical computing. So, you know, they say that they think they're going to get to a thousand times faster than today's chips, which ought to be, you know, it's gonna be unbelievable. Just unbelievable. Yeah. That's this is. I I like your word unbelievable that this is not something theoretical. This is something that's now. And as it gets applied to different areas is going to be changing everything. And I don't mean in the next decade. I mean in the next month's right, right? Exactly. I think the big push from the time that this was actually founded by these two science the big problem was making it in large supply, and at a reasonable cost and that has been happening they've slowly. But surely there are plans now making this stuff interestingly enough in one of them at a cardboard drum. I, you know, like, a fifty gallon drum only made out of cardboard, and I'm told one of the guys go over and pick up that drama and he walked over to it. And he picked it up. And he said, well, there's nothing in this drum. And I said, yes, it's full of graphing. Oh my gosh. This is going to let me Gillerman frontlines of freedom. And we're discussing graphene this new strategic material with Jeff Jeff. I remember reading somewhere that China has taken a couple of their helicopters and coated with the stuff incorrect. So this is something that is real today. Right. Exactly. Yes. They China has a what they call. It z ten helicopter that is covered with the graphing, and for many reasons, obviously, it makes the helicopter much lighter, and it's more protective, and it's more heat resistant. So all of those things keep in mind. You know, you think about this. They're actually going to be using this material is he for face ration- coming back in from space because it's way better than the shields. Currently is to me. It's unbelievable. When you start thinking about the strength of this material. I know that it blew me. A way to hear that the Golden Gate Bridge has tables that are thirty six inches in diameter, actually, plus or a mile and a half long and with twenty seven thousand plus liars in the cables, if this stuff was constructed autographing, it would require twelve thousand times less area, not to mention the weight, and they're also using this and snap to strengthen. So you're gonna imagine where this stuff is going. I mean, that's just there's no win medically speaking. There's just a ton of things that are not used for prosthetics for lightness and for durability and for wearable health monitoring. So yeah, there's just there's not much that they haven't thought about this stuff will be used for. And it's interesting that you developed this stuff, right? It came out of the UK how fast China put up on this. Yes. It's just incredible to have a helicopter lighter faster, more durable market, heat resistance. And so on. I mean, they know where this stuff is going. Oh, yeah. It's going to be used for creating cell phones. I mean, they say that the screens on cell phones, which crack and do this and do that if it's made out of graphing, you won't be able to break this material. They just bring so they'll be looking at making screens for for TV sets for anything and think of the lightness of it no longer has that weight involved. So you have a TV set this made autographing if the whole package is made autographing. The thing's gonna wait who knows? Probably pick it up and hold it on the wall by yourself. With one hand. Yeah. Right. Right. Jeff. This is just amazing. And we could probably talk for another two hours on this. But we're we're out of time. You got a couple of key points you'd like listeners to take away from this conversation. Well, I think it's always neat to think about new technologies coming down the pike. I think that currently in the world of technology because we have the technology we use the technology. But when it comes to graphene, it's gonna change everything is because of the fact that it's lighter more durable, stronger and heat resistance. It's going to be used in the auto industry looking at it because it doesn't rust so you're they're looking at it for all kinds of things not to mention since it's three d printable. Now, the fact is is that it's going to lead the now scale electron devices. Which means that they're going to create little bitty engines that they can put the things that are so small you can't even see him high load bearing impact resistance from pundits for building cars, and aircraft aircraft is going to change the industry is going to change to imagine the weight of a jet today. And what it would be if it was grasping that is beyond mind boggling, we're going to have to continue this conversation. Jeff. Thank you. Thank you to join us today. Thank you for your love for our nation's. Thank you for your intellectual inquiry into this kind of stuff. This is our present and its future. And what a great thing to talk about. Thank you Bill. They're based on the window. I mean, you're out in the forest. You hear something growling at you at night. And you're thinking Bigfoot mountain lion. You're thinking something scary is going on. I mean, but, you know, back during the times of saturnalia and the usual, and of course, what we're celebrating tonight. And that is the solstice the stories ranged from Harry little people appearing under the stairs or beds during the winter months demons that walked the earth leaving behind footprints in the snow one particular story you. There's actually a story called the demon of Devon. And while the demon isn't necessarily linked to Christmas. It's most certainly linked to a known winter gremlin called the falcon, which is a one leg jumping entity that would poison orchards and induced heart attacks if he was ever seen by a human being. In the winter of eighteen fifty-five after a light snowfall was reported. That who flight marks appeared in the snow the footprints measured one point five to two point five inches wide in eight inches apart. The footprints were seen throughout the countryside for a total of one hundred miles, and even though they would veer off at various points, the greater part of the hoof prints. We're moving forward in a straight line. Some of these tracks were seen going up walls on rooftops haystacks and leading up to an even into various drainpipes. There's some say we're only four inches in diameter villagers in the south side of Devon England reported sightings of a horned devil. Like figure walking around looking into windows. Now, that's another creature to that spoken of at Christmas time, and that is the people. The people demon like figure who keeps on you. While you're sleeping many townspeople arm themselves in Devon they attempted to track down the beast responsible without success back in March of two thousand nine. There was a there was an article that was published called ancient mystery returns at Satan's at Satan's who prints are spotted endeavour back garden. Scientists from the center of fourteen zoology inspector the prince this was back in two thousand nine. The scientists were the center for fourteen zoology inspected the prince which measure five inches long with a struggle between eleven and seventeen inches. Some villagers blamed the church would recently changed the standard prayer book for letting the devil into the communities. Others blamed animals pranksters and even a weather balloon, but the phenomena described as the great Devon mystery was never explained the prince did resemble those of a goat. And skeptics brought up the possibility that rabbits or even an escape. Kangaroo. From the local zoo may have caused them still. There was no explanation for why the curious prints were found in the snow. This was two thousand nine. And the demon of Devon's from the eighteen hundreds. But then they had another sighting of the footprints on two thousand nine. He's hoof prints. Prince resembled those of a goat. And we know that throughout the nineteenth century. There are always these tales of these demon like characters in the snow. There was one called spring heeled. Jack. Which is a small demonic gnome that was able to leap into the air and terrorize people some say that spring heeled Jack. Was a horned oily skin. Blue demon with a pointed head some say, he spewed forth, a blue flame from his mouth and the had sandy hooked claws. It felt cold like a corpse. Once again, we're back to those would gnomes. We're back to the forest demons. We're back to the the the infernal chase. Cramps of course, German for the word hooks or claws. Cramp was a horned in Harry creature with claws were covered in dirt. Crampons was originally known as the demon with the sandy claws or the sandy hooks. The name evolved into the English. Santa Claus sandy claws or cramp has had huge sticks. He would use to be unruly children. Some were put into sacks and tossed into the river, others were left at home. And there were times when cramps would punish the parents of the children blaming them for the bad behavior. Rilo will do the same thing would actually. Beat me to child or use a child in a stew. So we can dismiss these types of characters is all fantasies, but they're most certainly based on real fears and realities that were at the time. Unexplainable,.

"So this will be this would be kinda quick maybe I don't know. So we, we briefly talked about my fires. I think I don't even know if that's true, so, but for the most part I tried, I tried to write about Mike fires when he was claimed off waivers by the as and I just couldn't find anything that was worth sending out to the world. You know, like I could write a few hundred words of my fires, but I didn't think it would improve anyone's life. So I skipped it. So did I think the rest of us at fan graphs? And so of course, since Mike fires was completely summarily ignored by myself and my colleagues started three times for Oakland allowed. Three runs with one walk in twenty one outs. He's been amazing. He's been one of the better because major league baseball, and I was curious what might be going on with Mike fires, and I found something something has been going on with Mike fires. And so I remember when the as claimed him, I saw some quote Thun front of me, but I think it was David forced as GM saying something to effect of. Happened at fires in. We're going to just see how he does with our pitching plan for him in what that implied is that the as had something they wanted to do with Mike fires to maybe trying to make them better fires. You strike at more batters than he has lately anyway. So I saw the words pitching plan on, I thought, okay, that's interesting. And then fires turned in three good starts in a row, and I thought though that's even more interesting. So what I did I looked at a, I have two things I'm going to. I'm going to say. So I looked at a at all pitchers in major league baseball through August. First, when Mike fires made his last appearance with diapers and since August second after like fires wound up going to the ace. So I was looking at forcing fastballs and I was looking at curve balls. So I have data sample of two hundred sixty pitchers who threw sufficient number of four seam fastballs on both sides of that date. And Mike fires has shown the out of that sample of two hundred six pitchers. Mike fires has shown the fifth biggest increase in average fastball height. His. Fastball since one of the as is up zero point, four, three feet, which more related a little more than five inches. His average forcing fastball has now risen by a little more than five inches joining the eights. So he was already throwing pretty high with the Tigers, but he's just working up his. That's not anything that's too unfamiliar. We hear about between this time, here's your gets even more interesting. So fires also has a big sexy, looping curveball. And so I, I looked at the same kind of data, and I wound up with a sample of one hundred sixteen pitchers who threw enough curve balls on either side of that August first date and Mike fires, average curveball height has dropped by the most. It's down zero point, four, four feet or again a little more than five inches. So since joining the as Mike fires is average, fastball has risen by five inches and his average giant looping Kirpal his dropped by another five inches being. He's Inada. Another ten inches of separation between his fastball and his Kirpal, which is exactly what people have just said, classically fastball up Kirpal down so long, short of it. Fires is trying to keep his fastball above bats, and he's trying to keep his curveball below bets and it's been working out for him. It's not the only stuff he's done since joining the as, but that's the most visible stuff. And it's certainly worked out to this point. So pretty easy changes. He used to throw his fastball higher than he did with his carbos been around for a while. So I don't think it was anything to radical the, but just these simple differences in Mike fires turned into a really good pitcher apparently. So fund move and the kind of thing that might be cited as an antidote in this book. I've heard about this in the words. Yeah, that is possible. We've certainly seen any totally. It's hard to go back. I mean, there may have been time certainly prior to pitch FX, stat, casts, and all this, where a team traded for someone and said, we want him to do this thing differently..

He's got a big next dick out the diggers always out and diggers out. Yeah, the net kind of fitness very well either those diggers foot. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. So goes in his next always out. They like of they like they don't like. They're not in gravel during like just fine, fine. Sand union call saying. Saying, I would like. Yeah, same tropical beach saying like what you would want to walk on in this stuff and they hang out run in in the Latorre lls zone, though that word do not. It's like see, meets land like where the wave action plays out the littoral zone, the hang out in there and you sort of follow the tide out and you got clam gun or clam shovel, and you study the ground for these a federal little dimples at form and vanish. Sticky clam gun in a clam going is like, what was the day clam gun? They like five inches. Six inches. So five, six diameter to with a hand with a t handle on it. And you jam that some bitch down the mud. Right on top of where the dimple you center? The dimple on the gun and then tip it. And I've heard both. I've heard tip towards shore, never tiptoed the ocean. Tip toward, I think tip and towards shore. To not cut the claim and half at the clam gone. Yeah, which happens. All too often boss awhile. But you're not, but you gotta keep your boss tres. Yeah. So then there's like this little air. There's this little air escape hole in that clam going because shove the gun down. It compresses the air and so or shoves the air out and you sit down to buried in the mud, then you plug their home. Pull out in the pulls, the whole slug a mutt out which you're cylinders about what foot and a half, two feet. That's eighteen inch. Just eighteen eighteen eighteen inches. You still under the whole your figure puggle shove down the air needs to escape. But to make suction you just plug. It's like a little trigger hole. You plug it little trigger whole and you pull the whole kit and caboodle of pulling a core sample out of the ground. Horsing really good half the time. You dump it out in the clams, not there. Then you jump in and sink your arm into the up to the armpit in the whole, or you double-punch like pull up their cram back down in there, and then you get good, then pull up and you catch him or jump down and sink your arm up to the armpit and areas down in their hand on them. Yeah. Pull them up and there is your loud fifteen. And it's the first fifteen that come out of the ground. They don't want you highgrading them and they don't want you discarding them, but people do anyway. So pretty soon Segel's all over eating, busted up razor, clams and it's a hoot man, and they kind of open it just sporadically like a weekend here day there in it's usually the PM the PM low tide. Yeah, the PM low tide. Have you done it in the evening with Leonard of the take? My kids I have. I've done in the evening. It's real fun. I feel like you'd lose children at night. You have them hold the lantern. That's a good shore. Tony, we were out with kids and you had your youngest in one of those backpack carriers draft in. That's right. And you bent over to work a clam and the kid come out to carriers. You kept trying to reach down out of the carrier clam.
