Deutsche Bank Is Still Hot for Apple Shares

"Deutsche. Bank is still hot for apple. Shares tip ranks has deutsche bank analyst sydney ho issuing a note offering iphone numbers about which i do not care. Okay that's not true. The numbers are interesting and notable. Though the part i find most interesting is his news around apple retail about half of apple store. Customers have come back like physically. According to mr ho wall store traffic bottomed out. In the spring of twenty twenty it has improved sense and is now at about forty percent of fifty percent of the volume seen pre pandemic. It's like the reverse of that. Nature is healing thing as for iphone. Those numbers are relatively consistent. In fact those are his words tip. Rank says since the pandemic's onset the iphone share of the us installed base and length of smartphone ownership has remained in hose words relatively consistent when looking to make a smartphone purchase. The beat goes on to say fifty seven percent of iphone users and tend to get the latest model just below the fifty nine percent. Who plan to do so. In december of twenty nineteen storage wise lesser inclined to get five hundred twelve gigabyte models the highest amount of bailable although sixty four gigabytes appears to be insufficient to most since december twenty nineteen consumers. Buying sixty four gigabyte models have dropped from percent to eight percent while in the same period those purchasing one hundred twenty eight gigabyte models grew from twelve percent to twenty four percent. Sounds like a better asap to me as for the five g super cycle. Ho doesn't seem to think it's here yet. Quoting his note. The launch of five g smartphones does not seem to have significantly change the length of smartphone ownership both iphone and other although we do expect a refresh cycle to accelerate when five g. infrastructure is more built out. Everything we still want to see in the OnePlus 7 Pro

"One plus seven pro is coming at the end of this week to North America may seventeenth. It's going to start at six hundred sixty nine dollars or not going to bury the lead. This is the most expensive one plus phone ever released. We'll sort of but. Let's let's dive into why. Because this is definitely the most impressive phone the company's ever put out, Alex. What have you taken away with your from your few days with it so far? So the first thing to sort of understand is that we have two phones, but it's not a one plus seven on a one plus seven light does a reason why it's one plus seven out of one plus seven pro. So you have the rails, which will talk about an aside. But it's regular is pretty much the phone that you would expect one plus to release this time of year. The reason why the pro is because they're actually taking a step beyond that place that you would normally expect to won't plus fun to occupy. So there are a lot of significant hardware improvement. So we'll have design improvements. The phone is just a lot more impressive attack level and will competitive with the likes of Samsung an app even apple on this is one plus taking to the next level in the pro Monica really means is that it's than Olonga just sort of scrappy upstart company that will sell you something. With the latest Snapdragon new stock Android for reasonably affordable price. They were actually sort of taking it to the big players in the game. I think with the pro. Yeah. It really feels more like an actual direct competitor rather than just talking about the the whole further price thing. Yeah. Where especially when you when you look at things like what they've done with the display. We'll talk about the display a ton and the design and just a few of the the additions all around it doesn't feel so much a bare bones kind of reference designee type of phone. I mean, even the six and six T, which you were the best designs. It's definitely gotten better with each generation and even their half generations of the T models. The seven pro feels like dramatically different device on a completely separate track and level from the phones before it in terms of hardware. Just. Design wise, you can stick any premium small manufacturers logo on the back of this thing, and it wouldn't look out of place. Absolutely. All right. So this is the company's first phone with triple camera setup. It has a ninety hurts display. It has arguably one it's it's gone from having some plus phones have gone from having some of the worst hap- deke's to having among the best haptic. So everything in here has been improved. It has obviously the latest Snapdragon processor up to twelve gigs of ram up to five hundred twelve gigabytes of storage, stereo speakers. Yes. Dairy speakers. What it doesn't have off the bat. We it does not have wireless charging, and it is not technically water resistant. It doesn't have an IP certification. If you've seen the bucket promo that was released a guess now just under two weeks ago. You'll know what that means the company does not like paying for that. IP certification. But it's also saying that it'll withstand some ingress, you shouldn't probably swim with it. So these are the compromises that plus made to keep the price at a relatively low number six hundred sixty nine dollars is still wait Scheepers than even the galaxy ten e and yet this is clearly aimed at the top of the line products on the market, and it's got carrier partnerships, or at least partnership in the US to boot. So Alex where where does this place one plus in the ecosystem now, especially in the west, I think you have to treat them as as of much table manufacture, right? They've been they've been a long time. It's been a long time coming, but I would have -solutely in terms of the market presence that the the maybe not quite right up with with. Aung maybe this is me of having blinders on little bit in this small phone enthusiasts spice, the we all live in. But I think we in terms of the quality of the products, the price, you have to treat them as one of the plays out that especially if you look at what people

Can Facebook earn our trust back at its F8 conference? (The 3:59, Ep. 550)

"The. Vagina chang. I'm forgetting Facebook posted its earnings was also last night disclosing faces a fine for as much as five billion dollars led to a Federal Trade Commission investigation into its data privacy practices five billion seems like a lot, but they've already parked three billion. Yes, they imagine. You know, somebody that like constantly parks fire hydrants in places that they are not allowed to party, and they and they do it because they set money aside to pay for all those tickets that keep coming parking fine fund. That is basically what Facebook is doing here with about three billion dollars. Like, they're expecting this this massive record-setting fine from the FTC arrive, and they've put put aside that kind of money for not, you know, we're going to stop parking in places where we shouldn't be parking. But rather, oh, we have the money for it. Because obviously didn't really make that much of a dent yet. Keep in mind in the first quarter, the company posted revenue of more than fifteen billion dollars that expected. And despite the fact that the controversies are taking a bite of profits is revenue so growing number of users are still growing so and their stock went up right after that announced this it's just I don't know what you know, what it would take for investors to sour on Facebook is everything that's happened. Doesn't seem to be a right thing. And yet the money keeps rising advertisers. So locked in next week. We've got Facebook's F eight conference are on quitting long laid out. Some of the big themes, including more focus on privacy expr- is messaging apps as well as virtual reality of, you know. You know, you think that any that's through our wheel just talking about the privacy. That's another thing that makes me think, you know, what will happen to like with their stock like by switching to this new privacy model that they keep talking about, you know, it's gonna be much harder to monetize base off of user data rematch harder to moderated also if every communication is to end up and private so it's just why don't think they're going as far as making everything in yet. I know they've talked for Facebook messenger. I know they're talking about at least with the some of the gaps opening up so things worked together better. I don't know if the nothing means everything is going to be Enin crit supposed to be there working on it. That's the vision. But I don't know that's going to be the term thing. So next we've got a scene. That scoop refers to report that Reisen is rolling out five G into twenty cities. You check out the story for all the cities more interesting. We either launching the galaxy S ten five G on sixteenth for a whopping thirteen hundred dollars. Fourteen hundred dollars for the five hundred twelve gigabyte option will the five G speed be so fast at the screen falls off. That's the fall. That's the wrong. That's the wrong. One wrong carrier Roaf wrong device. We'll see keeping my beyond the the price of you've got to pay ten dollars extra for five G. So it's really worth it. And like how much faster could it really be? I mean, you know, all about it all off faster when you get five G, but you can't get five G pretty much anywhere for few spots. So doesn't sound like it's worth at at all. All right. Lastly, if you've a hack fire TV stay running streaming video you may want to consider just connecting it every year on the story. What what's going on with this so security, researchers from the digital citizens alliance and dark wolf consulting love that name. Yeah. It's very interesting. They had taken a look at the six most popular kinds of apps for these bootleg streaming six. So if you're not Miller with them, they're there. Basically like modifier TV stakes remodeled like Roku that will get in these channels that oh you can watch HBO and Netflix for free on this go catalog Schrimm. Yeah. Vs and TV shows. Right. So they're filled with malware. The majority of them are at least in one case when he plugged in and connected to his wifi network. It started like siphoning off all this data like including his wife password and sending its server out an Indonesia, right? And a lot of people don't think that oh, I'm not installing anything on this like, I'm not installing any viruses on it. But yeah, that is the big concern as most people think they're they're fine because it's just your TV computer with your Bank case because it's connected. Your same wifi network. So if your computer is also on that same WI fi network, it can theoretically like siphon that kind of sensitive information off of it. I mean beyond just connecting. Is there any advice for folks, I would recommend as not buying one? In general. I'm streaming auctions are so cheap already. Do you really need to watch game of thrones that bad? I mean, I do but I actually legit pay for. Yeah. Yeah. Other people pay for it to their data. It's just two ways to pay for these kinds of that. Right. So just as your your privacy. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's kind of funny because, well, I've got a much better internet connection, but one of Julie's old iphone is becoming Cole's new gore, fight ipod, touch, of course, and I backed it up and then I restored her. I, I should say I nuked her old phone. Uh-huh. And then I restored it from one of his backups from about a month ago. And I don't know while I do know why I was going to say, I backed it up and restarted. It should be fine, but I just remembered. I tunes, of course, doesn't do anything as far as the backup of and settings, and even that's dubious it all has come down from the cloud. So all his games right now are downloading on that. Iphone. You can buy that the Topan phones now five hundred twelve gigabytes all my. If for any reason you had fill out with them 's and then you restore. You've got a big problem. Yeah, I could have had his phone restored in and you know, twenty minutes half hour at the most. And instead you just got to. Share bandwith and download everything again. Yeah, it doesn't seem to be particularly very, especially bearing on the apple is all about environments credentials. I mean, dight senses, they cost money to run and sending stuff of incident also caused power. Time energy, all of that stuff. So the fact that they constantly having read download the same thing over and over again for that reason is probably not ideal. No, let's let's stay with a apple for at their last week. I discussed how. The crackdown that I experienced from apple on companies like when I was working for Mexico list, Tom wrote in time, of course, worked for an apple specialist as well. "I think I think that you, I think that is. Possible, but it's probably not going to happen just because the industry tends to follow apple and I would love it if everybody went out and made smaller phones and put fingerprint sensors back on the face unlock. But I think that like everybody in the industry's pretty much trained to just do whatever apple does for better and for worse. So like all, I think all the new phones are going to have face unlock and the fingerprint sensor is going to be gone it from at least from flagship phones from high end phones within a year, the home button, the whole concept of the home button is going to be gone within a year. So like if you're not used to using gestures on your phone right now, you have to get used to using gestures on your phone right now or else you're going to be lost. And it's going to be a much steeper hill to climb when you go out and buy your next on, whether it's an iphone or whether it's a galaxy or a pixel, and it's just the new reality. Unless we all have to feature funds. Feature phones, flip phones? No more slack. That's it just know more slack, no more. It's not apparent right now. What is that? Other companies will sort of follow suit with or tried to mimic in some way, but I think what could happen as you could see companies start to try to emphasize the things that they are really good at. Apple does have sort of full stack approach to building phones. And so one of the things they can do is integrate the hardware really tightly with it software and then optimize performance on the phone. So this eight twelve chip is interested chip. It's something that's been designed the neural engine. For example. Has been designed specifically to work certain way with apple software to make things work better. Right. And so that's their. That's basically the advantage they were describing yesterday. Google is going to be having an event next month, and we're very much expecting to see new pixel phone. Google, of course is fantastic at AI. I mean, that's just what you will. That's where Google really stands out and who will is known for its software. And so I wouldn't expect anything that feels particularly fancy out of new pixel, but I would expect the software that runs on an especially the Google assistant that runs on it to be really, really good and then come early next year. We might see new, Samsung flagship phone where we'll start to see Samson. Maybe Samsung we'll be doing three d. depth sensing for facial recognition, which it hasn't been doing up to this point where maybe it's going to do an in display fingerprint sensor, which we'd sweep seen concepts of, and we saw one phone this year. Ship in Asia, but like hasn't really come to this market. Maybe we'll see Samsung just released a phone last month before apple did that had five hundred twelve gigabytes of internal storage. So with an ST card, you can get a two one terabyte of storage in your phone. That's a crazy amount of storage, right? So I think I think we might start to see all of these phone makers at the very high end start to double down and what it is that they're, they're very good at. I just think of what it would take to differentiate in the in the smartphone market. And I mean, I can't see major manufacturers making phone smaller and sacrificing battery life or adding a headphone Jack and sacrificing waterproof ability or -bility or anything like that. It also the screen technologies different. They've laminated the screen on it, and so it is there's a little, it's until you see it. You won't notice it, but there's a little depth in the other ipads between the glass on the screen and the screen that makes it feel a little bit like you're floating above the screen, especially when use the pencil. Now the ipad pro was designed to use this new pencil technology, so they laminate the screen right onto the glass. Bass gives you better result is a much better screen does what we call true tone, which is at adapts to the ambient light to give you more accurate tone. So if you know the the ipad that selling like crazy right now is the three hundred twenty nine dollar base model. Yeah, I don't want that one. I definitely want the pros. Okay. Well, if you gotta get the pro that don't get the twelve because that's like a pizza box. A little too big. The ten and a half is fantastic. Okay. You save money by not getting a lot of storage. You know they offer it in in a bunch of sizes starts at sixty. Four gigs goes all the way up to five hundred twelve gigabytes of storage. I don't know. Anybody needs five twelve sixty four plenty. Yeah, twenty plenty so that that one starts at six hundred fifty bucks. A little pricey, but you're getting, I would say a great I pet and I wouldn't be surprised to see them discount that fifty bucks at least in September when they come out with the next generation ipad pro. Now here's what you won't be getting. And this is a guest because they haven't announced it yet, but almost certainly the next generation ipad, we'll have face recognition instead of touch ID won't have a physical home button. It'll be like the iphone ten. It'll have a larger screen as a result because it doesn't need to save space. It will also have, and some people are not happy about this, but I think it will also have the notch that the iphone ten is famous for a little cutout and lot of people don't like that. That's a little cut out for the face. I d stuff. So whether they'll have the notch or not. No one knows I noticed they've made changes to Iowa's twelve that make me inclined to believe they will, but maybe not. But almost certainly they will face ide- and they'll, but they will also have a faster processor. That's one thing Apple's done so well much better frankly than Intel. Intel's processors have not been much faster each generation in the last few years. But apple every year like clockwork, they ten eleven. This'll be an eight. Twelve has significant thirty percent improvements in speed each time..

"So I think that's the weakest part of the event. And then I think their biggest biggest part of the event was the galaxy note nine announcement and link it here. There's few few websites did some some good reviews the verge did a or not a review almost like a a first impressions of it. HD did a first impression pressures of it. And like MK bait that battery. Yeah. MK HD was like really talking this thing up and I gotta say it's it's very impressive on paper. It's a big screen though. It's it's a big screen. It is a six point, four inch screen which I believe we, I believe, isn't the rumored next, you know, the bigger I've phone ten supposed to be six point five, I believe so. So that's an interesting thing. So it's not. It's actually going to be smaller than what they are saying. The next I phones will be. So I'm I'm actually a little shock that they didn't try to like one up apple because you know how to do that may get six point, six inches, six point, six inches. But you know why they also have they also use a different aspect ratio. But here's a couple of interesting things. The biggest thing is the battery, which is ironic because they had the U2. Bockel with the note seven, I believe, which was the one that exploded and in this ever forgot about how you couldn't bring galaxy note on planes. Yeah. And then this, no, they, they address that at all. In this one, they don't worry guys. You can bring this one on flights. They're not gonna kick you off your flight. If you buy this phone, apparently they did address it and and pretty in length. So this phone has the big pretty much the biggest battery in a flagship phone ever. I think they had that there was like that Motorola razor phone, which had go largest battery, but it was, you know, obviously not built for for everyday was more of a gamers phone? Yeah, four thousand million battery is crazy big, and apparently they went. They went to multiple outside like battery cert-, sir. Tip. Vacation, like I dunno different, like apple. Yeah, yeah, they probably went to apple apple. Can you make sure this is going to be good. And besides that, the other big thing which I gotta say, I gotta say I gotta give it to Samsung because Apple's really they're the worst at this and they've always been just because they're greedy, is that the the two configurations? The first configuration starts at one hundred twenty eight gigs of storage. And the second configuration starts at five hundred and twelve gigabytes of storage, and they both have the option for an ominious de. So you could put another five hundred twelve gigabytes Minneapolis de into your phone and you can have a phone. I mean, these come bigger than that nowadays, right. Yeah. So you have a phone with one plus terabytes of storage in your pocket, which when I say blows my mind. Like that's crazy. I remember when I was younger and I was lucky to get like a two hundred gig hard drive into my computer. Remember when I. Only Kate with four gigs gone. Yeah. So and then the base model comes at six gigs ram. The top tier model comes with eight gigs of ram, which again.

"Has some stuff. Next web, Recode, all the kind of stuff for wired magazine, Wall Street, Journal, tech, all that stuff. Urban have information on that, especially as they're gonna fall along with the. With the performance. The thing here as well. Obviously, this is the new Fablet that words kinda gone by the wayside because we're getting us to these big phones I'm using. I'm using a iphone seven, seven plus seven s plus whatever it is. Looks like that. Getting to this whole family thing is we're not. We're not really worried about it as well. All right. So getting back to where we're talking about earlier with the what to expect from these from these phones? Obviously the same thing. The note nine looks like I have a better battery. As well, and we'll actually have a headphone. Looks like it's has good results of the eight headphone Jack UC USB port to deal Douro cameras, fingerprint sensor on the back, all kind of pretty much the same. Hopefully won't have any issues the same issues you saw with what? What happened last year with these phones, but make sure that I'm sure Samsung making sure that everything just find. All right, that's their competitor is kind of drilling them with the with a date of their phones. Interesting. All right. The notes, the notes nine is is going to be announced today said no, nine today, trying to get away from that whole stuff have issue with the no seven. This is going to be big screen. Big battery comes to the stylus Sunder proportions than the phone. Also. I mean, this is going to be this is going to be something different. Apparently because I was the notes. This is funny because they're trying to go all towards his big things, giving you more more and more stuff, and then it's, oh, we didn't work. Okay. We're gonna go from it, but we're still going to the same thing. It's just doesn't make any sense. Oh, we're going to note seven was the first one with the big, big phone battery, big everything. And then we're going to be the anti of that, but still give you all the big, the big things that come with these phone. So. Obviously, the note will have all those same age of futures as we saw with the nine earlier this year, as well as. We'll see major features design elements as its predecessor as well. So the note eight, obviously business and personal changes, but mostly the same thing you're gonna be seeing as well, and we're gonna be saying it's more stuff on the inside like the first phone that's going to be at five, twenty eight, five hundred twelve gigabytes actually which will be the one that's fifteen hundred bucks. This is the first one Samsung's rolling out. With that much sports sword space. That's pretty cool. I mean, that's obviously you're supposed to not not really good reason how to always buy more. I mean, there's all these clouds based on these days. I mean, he's phones obviously, you need real storage in the phone. I guess people like that, but looks like that this new new models will have a bright yellow pen stylus is getting a bluetooth update as well for some functionality that actually has not been. Announced. And of course, this is something that were only compared to the competitors iphone x. plus the oppose find x. or the. Who as of peeve twenty pro as well. So I mean, this is all the competitors. I mean, Samsung is South Korean company and they gotta do. They're, they're, they're while they're worried about the US markets very much worry about the Asian markets as well and have a little more competitive. We might not know about here as much. Obviously Apple's out there as well. But. Put. Looks like we're going to be kind of seeing what's how it's going to be battled out this year. All right. Moving onto the stuff regarding more Samsung as well as some of the semantics that comes with it. Samsung, of course. Looks like that it's gonna be trying to, you know how apple with the whole s models everything. Samsung they can't really get away with taking a year off. I guess what they're saying..

"It's supposed to be able to maintain a higher clock speed, and you're not even able to maintain a base clock speed on this chip. That's a major issue because people who aren't investigating this issue are going to just blindly by the I nine thinking it's going to have higher performance and in many instances for prolonged. Rendering for fluid dynamics. If you're doing physics calculations, it's not going to be able to be faster. In fact, in some tests that he did, it's slower than the ice seven in the two thousand seventeen macbook pro. I think this is like hashtag heat gate. This is a big deal to me. I don't know if I'm over blowing this, but Lewis you were saying you don't see how apple is going to be able to refute these tests because they seem pretty convincing. Well, I mean, yeah, the looks. I was kinda just shocked by it. You know, I mean this one YouTube video, right? I haven't. It's been. I produced a couple of people to it has several YouTube people who have reproduced. And now of course everyone's gonna be jumping on this because bashing on apple when they really some new product is popular. They wanna get view. So it's kinda hard to trust those videos, but deeply isn't established youtuber. I mean, when you go watch videos, he doesn't just do stuff for clicks. He's methodical and his approach. He tries to be scientific, you know, scientific as you can be in these kinds of tests. And he's just, I believe that he's just trying to be truthful. He's not just trying to get clicks. Sorry, Lewis, go ahead. No. I mean, I thought his videos very convincing, but. I mean, it seems kinda hard to believe that apple would not notice this in producing these things. And boy, man. I mean, just last week I was saying, oh yeah, get the and get the maximum. That was my advice to you, right? Here's a, oh, no, actually pay more and get less. That's what it sounds like. And you know what? Doggone you almost convinced almost convinced me I've been configuring the met but pro the last week and and I had your voice in the back of my mind saying, you know what? Just the I nine you're not gonna miss the money. You're gonna like having the power, you can have this machine for two or three years. You're back, they're going. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, in my ear and I almost did it. I almost held out because I tweeted this. I think several days ago, no one is talking about and what I need to know is how much faster is the I nine over the seven is it worth the extra money? And they're just hadn't been enough tests in order for me to pull the trigger. And this is where I was waiting for. I certainly wasn't expecting this. I was expecting people to say, well. It might be six percent faster in some circumstances, but not certainly not slower. Now in defense of the I nine. Many of Apple's applications will render intermittently by many. I just mean final pro. Thinks it's final cut pro when you're not working in final cut pro, it will take an opportunity to render for a brief period of time. So if you look at it that way the I nine maybe just boosted self up and when it gets high, throw itself back down. By that time you might be doing something else and final pro again. And so you may not need it to be constantly on all the time, but that's a pretty weak argument because many people are going to buy this computer, expecting it to be fast all the time. And that's seems to not be the case. So crazy story this week. This made my buying decision easy. I ruled out the I nine on like there's no way I'll spend the money for the I now I think I'm going to spend on an extra five hundred twelve gigabytes of us d- because the SSD in the new mecca pros and the mic. It's only five hundred twelve gigs, which is too small, my opinion, especially with the price point. But I think I, I will enjoy having a terabyte instead of five, twelve since I'm constantly doing video stuff now and it's like you do one of your project and it's like one hundred gig. Gigabytes your space really fast. Okay. Enough. MAC book pro talk. Let's move into the last segment of the show and all new under review. I got a really exciting pick this week. I should probably go in the middle so I don't overwhelm anyone. Does anyone want to go first..

"Counting the raspberry pies with big keyboards and mouses and screens and yet the best application for the job of i need to watch a streaming video i need to take lots of notes as i'm watching it by also need to sort of wife tweeted the best environment was my foot trump point nineinch ipad pro and external keyboard and just had just using uh sidebyside apps and pictureinpicture is just such a beautiful way to work so i would find it difficult to get that environment going even in the expanded the desktop this evening even this expanded size of the new smaller ipad so i hope that the twelve point nine still gets as much loves it deserves because the really is something to having a nice bigscreen and not having to feel like you're cramped at all yeah i agree and i'm very happy that the twelve point nine which would there were some speculation my go away but i think that given what we know now of the ten point five the fact that it doesn't have the resolution of the i've had many which would have given it has many pixels as the whole point nine i'm really glad the twelve point nine is still around because it does serve that need if you want it won a full film more space run to apps in ipad loud side by side to a point nine can delay size classes are big deal yeah yeah at at if if anything the i it will the success of the smaller ipad will boost the success of the twelve point nine because there will always be the way to tricks trick to nd entice somebody to saying well since you since you have seven hundred eighty nine dollars for the smaller one and use it so much wider give us 1100 dollars for the larger one with the on my god comes at five hundred twelve gigabytes now and now i don't know how to deal with the rest of my life without having five hundred twelve gigs hundred ipad it's a trap hot will.
