All these ships which i just counted the one containership some waiting to dock. And there's not enough dog orders never to these things so some of them been sitting out here for as many as five days just waiting to be unloaded. Let a crisis go to waste. Maybe this is an intentional economic catastrophe to try to justify confiscation and taking of private property. I we must destroy it before we can nationalize it you see. There's going to be an argument soon. Will we might as well nationalize the supply chain because look how inefficiently these private companies are running even though it's not that simple there's plenty of government agencies involved in all of this

Americans Find Ways to Remember Fallen Soldiers in Afghanistan

"I wanna talk about yet to great comms. This week one on atom lacks all. We can talk about adams campaign off. And you're right he fuses the party. It's a national race. Nevada is everything. It's the fifty first vote but earlier in the week probably five days ago. Americans have not forgotten that thirteen soldier. What you mean. Of course your headline writer got wrong. It's eleven marines. One navy cormon. One soldier killed in the afghantistan suicide bombing last night. John draws five for fighting concert talked about them. Repeatedly played blood on. My hands also played a couple of songs. All for one really. Americans have not forgotten any of those who've died or been wounded in this war but the national news media has. Yeah absolutely you know what's really is. Founding is immediately when this happened. You started seeing these these These these table settings ray at ad bars as hubs a restaurants where where there would be a a table set for this thirteen Men and women who lost their lives in afghanistan. And then you would see the thirteen years and then you would see in like white tablecloth restaurants thirteen glasses of wine and then went even further and it hasn't stopped. I see it around where i live where people have thirteen chairs in their yard just With with their team flags Setting decided it and And and and people are showing it in all kinds of different ways and it hasn't gone away and i think what the national media is missing and what this administration is missing is. This moment has left an imprint. On the american psyche people have have really Sort of paused and thought about afghanistan and thought about how we left and have not let go of that. And i think the important distinction is is. It's not because they didn't want people to leave what they wanted. Awards show still go on. It's not about that at all. It's about how we left. They argument isn't the disappointment and sadness and and the Sort of imprint. In their brain is about how we left.

"Backs. There were so many good thought receivers on the board. When they took Travis Etienne, it's Simpsons thing. This is the Family Guy thing. Right. It's the mystery box. You know, they go in they want to vote. And the salesman says, well, you can have the boat or you can have the mystery box. And Peter goes, well, the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat. You're gonna try Travis since he had its law receiver because you need a slot receiver. Oh my God. If only you could have drafted a slot receiver in one of the deepest slot receiver class. In recent memory. In a library more is apparently tearing up jets can. I think he's still on the board at that point. Yeah, he's the guy from all this. I think Jerry's Tony was still on the board at that point. You had a mode Ross eat Brown who's been excellent for Detroit. Over the draft running back and play him out of position. The hell out of here with dad. You can do that in college because your teams are so wildly mor talented in the Big Ten. Right. It doesn't matter. You can't do that in the NFL. You can't play Tim Tebow a tight end. Dipsy do, yeah, that'll work. No, this is the NFL. Everybody's good now. I'm sorry. You don't get to play central Michigan to open the season anymore. Urban Meyer, you have to play real football. It's going to be and it sucks. Because I think Trevor Lawrence is tremendously talented. I do. And I was looking forward to watching him. That organization is going to flush him down the drain worse than the colts flushed Andrew Locke. Rookie quarterbacks have looked pretty good. I think Trevor Lawrence plays tonight with the Jaguars in his second game, so maybe he can turn it around. He should look good. Zach Wilson's looked good. Trey Lance was started a little bit rough yesterday, but then came and turned it around and came on strong at the end of that game. Mac is obviously pretty good for the Patriots, Justin Fields has had some great moments for the Chicago Bears. So I really fun and intriguing quarterback class..

"He'd also missed an extra point against Washington. So he's now missed three extra points in preseason action in one field goal from 36 yards. So 7 points on the board in two games. That extra skin seems to be a little bit difficult for Quinton nordeen. So that 36, 39, it's about the same, right? So more or less. So it feels like it feels like this kicker situation is still pretty uncertain and a couple weeks ago. We thought they were in a great spot. This is sometimes what happens in training camp as weeks progress is practices progress as games get underway. You learn about the flaws. You're learn about the words in some of these players and it does feel like maybe the kicker situation is a little bit more bleak. And there's still searching, excuse me for the long term replacement for gussie, right? Supposed to be the bridge, nordean looked at a chance to be that long-term guy and maybe he still is if he's got a chance to develop and become more consistent, but we're still in a search mode right now for the kicker that is going to be the kicker for a while here. Yeah, I was a little surprised they didn't take Evan McPherson. He went in the 5th round. They kind of had a gap there, but yeah, you know, folks should be fine this year. I don't know that he's gonna be 93% again, but if you can get your 80s, I think you're in good shape. I think focus is gonna be like Larry Bird and his final year at the Celtics laid out on the sideline to make sure he doesn't exactly. When he's not in the game, so I mean, we'll see what he turns into, but yeah, I think that there's a chance that somebody said in the chat, this team goes nowhere without a kicker. I don't think that that's necessarily an incorrect take, because if you're a team that's going to win on defense, I think that that's totally sustainable. But points are going to be precious. You know, teams are going to come down in extra point here on chip shot field goal there. So this team can't really afford to leave points on the table the way they want to win games. So they're going to kick ass in a matter. Yeah, there was a report that's a good point by William here in the chat. There was a report the other day the Giants I believe have two kickers that they really like. And one Ryan's on toso or Santos so every pronounce his last name, I'm sorry if I butchered that. He is available on the trade block and has put together a strong training camp, strong pre season tape and looks like an NFL starting kicker. So the Patriots might have a firsthand look at him over the next couple of days on Wednesday and Thursday in the game on Sunday. So if he kicks well in front of Bill Belichick, maybe that's an option as a guy that they could look for externally if they have to go that direction..

"You want to get hot later, rather than earlier. Anything hot at the right time. So we'll see. Current Brazil, the Patriots offensive line coach on Sunday also add some good things to say about you, I think you did mention that there were a ton of mistakes still on tape that they're hiring now with could juice. But you see the improvements you see that he's trending in the right direction. And after sitting out for so long, you had to have expected that there was going to be a slow build up for a guy like could use to get ramped back up. Not only to football shape and the speed of the game, but the physicality of the game as well and the mental side of it and just sort of putting it all together. Was going to take time. So we are seeing that flash more and more. And as you said, you got Brown, you got win two guys that are injury prone and also two guys that are nearing the end of their contracts, right? Now one more year after this year because of the 5th year option, Trent Brown is a free agent at the end of the season. Although it does sound like brown loves to be here in the Patriots love to have him, maybe they can work out some sort of an extension at some point to keep him here. The tackle depth beyond this year is also something that they have to think about. And maybe I'd make a juice is not going to play this year for the Patriots because they probably go kicking on Michael on Wendy back outside or bringing Justin heroin in over Cajun. But 2022 and beyond when you look at the projection there, that could be where y'all need to earn a role for himself and maybe factor into things a little bit more. So it's a developmental play. Through and through, to keep you on, you could use on the roster, but his upside is a man's. You know, I love seeing me some kids. I've loved them since West Virginia. I think he's a guy that moves really well for his size, got great hands, great upper body strength. All the tools in the tool belt that you need to play tackle in the NFL. He's just got to stay healthy. And that's really caveat, but he's at least trending in the right direction and that department where 16 practices in knock on wood don't want to jinx him and he's still out there. So I think that they have something and could use it. They can keep them out on the field. Let's do kickers in the wrap it up on the kickers. Nick folk returns to practice on Monday. He goes three for 5 from 40 to 45 ish range I would say. The leg didn't look great, Alex. He wasn't exactly booming the kick. Maybe it's in comparison, I guess, right? Yeah. You know, when Quinn's going over the goalpost from 50, it's tough, but look, he was three for 5. He hadn't kicked a couple weeks. Right. Well, I'm not going to write him off. I want practice, but, you know, they get to have a kicker..

"And this is not a bad offensive line, right? And I remember at one point I turned to you, Alex and I and I said, they just throw a ton of pressure looks at this at The Rookie quarterback and these practices blessing linebackers, gaming or stunting upfront, doing all sorts. This is not just we're gonna put rush for against your 5 guys. If we get home great, if not that gets to look good against the defense, right? This is we're gonna get Dante Hightower and Matt Jude on and Joshua and chase winovich and Kyle van noy and our interior guys are gonna stunt and pick and do different things up front and we're coming after this quarterback. And I feel like that mentality is gonna be the way that they're gonna carry this into all year long. Some reporters out there. I think Andrew Callen had had them at 6 sacks today of Mac Jones. I don't know if it was quite that many, but there was a lot of pressure in Mac Jones face out there today. Yeah, I mean, we've talked about this. This shouldn't be news to anybody regardless of the quarterback situation. This team is going to go as far as the defense carries them. I mean, it's a defensively built football team. And there's a lot a lot to be excited about. And this just on a bigger picture for the defense, I don't know if you had another point about the defensive front Evan. But just let me pull up the exact transcript here, but I thought it was very interesting this morning. Bill Belichick was asked about Stefon Gilmore and generally the response has been. He's rehabbing. He's reality. That's it. He's rehabbing, or, you know, that's a situation. This is what he said this morning. I'll jump around here because it was a long answer. I know that that's been working extremely hard. See him in here all the time. He's doing other things while we're practicing. Yeah. I'd say I'd say it's day to day. We just keep putting days together and stack them together when he's ready to be out there. He'll be out there..

"You know, some things like that, where I've said this before. This is regardless of Cam Newton Mac Jones. This is a blanket statement. Unless you draft Trevor Lawrence, right? Generational talent. And you get one of those every four or 5 years, right? Lawrence, Locke, Manning, whichever guy gets drafted by the crap team from the AFC south. Funny how that's worked out. Although, actually, the culture in the AFC east when the draft in many. Anyway, unless you get that guy, I don't think Roku should start right away. I don't. The three best quarterbacks of football last year. We've been over this. In no particular order, mahomes, Rogers Brady. Started a combined one game as rookies. And that was Patrick Mahomes in week 17 in a game that meant nothing. So I don't think I would like to see them give Mac Jos at least a month because I think just seeing how things work in the regular season behind the scenes. I think that's valuable. Even if he's the better quarterback and he may be, I will sacrifice four games in September 2021 for a better outcome for the next 8 to ten to 12 years. That so that's where I'm at. I think ultimately more is gained by letting him watch the operation behind the scenes for about a month before you put him in there. Again, this is not Cam Newton Macron specific. I would say the same thing for the bears. I would say the same thing for the I don't even know who else suggests have a quarterback. They might not have a bridge guide. But that was a concern when they dropped Zach Wilson, Brian Hoyer was potentially right. The cats were their own freaking mess and let the jets be the jets. But I'd say the same thing for the niners, right? And I think Jimmy Garoppolo sucks. I do not think he's a good quarterback. And the matters of a good team, I would still give Trey Lance at least a month, maybe more. I'd give Lance longer than Mac. Because that's max more NFL ready. But that's a blanket statement for me. I would not start The Rookie week one. I think there's too much development to be gained behind the scenes because the other thing is, once you make the change, I don't know that you can go back. That's the biggest thing to me for the moment's right when you do it. Don't just say, oh, week one, whatever will try it. That's the biggest thing to me and that's why Michael Lombardi brought up on his podcast the other day,.

"Or reps, excuse me, I would say that early on, it looked like the starting defense was moving a little fast for him, but he seemed to settle in as they got into practice and there were a bunch of throws that I thought were really, really solid that we can get into. But the one thing that you definitely do see with Mac, even when he has a bad start like he did today or had some bad moments like he did today. The ball is never that up for grabs. There was a few instances like we can Philadelphia that I wrote about where I felt like he was pushing the ball down the field and being a little bit too aggressive. I would say, putting the ball in bad spots and up for grabs. Today, his misses were at least solid misses, right, where it wasn't like it was going to be intercepted by the other team. So I guess that's a positive you can take away from it. I thought he made a couple of really good throws towards the end of practice. You mentioned the one to born that it was draped all over JC Jackson was draped all over him. There was really only one spot that Mac Jones could throw that ball into for Kendrick born to have a chance at it and that's exactly where he threw it. He also threw a nice pass up the seams and Johnny Smith earlier in practice. So you still see the flashes. You still see the moments. There was a throw coming out of the backfield, JJ Taylor, the linebacker blitz, the other linebacker dropped off the edge, replacement pressure, right? Inside linebacker comes outside linebacker drops with the running back in coverage. Mac read the blitz through hot to JJ Taylor got the ball out of his hands really quickly and put it to JJ Taylor and stride on a swing in the flat. Those are the types of ways you look at and you say, okay, that's the computer and between the ears working for Mac Jones that we've heard about. That the year about from Alabama he comes up here and does the same thing. Those are the things that you like to see translate. The last one I would mention with Mac was actually a throwaway that bob Sochi pointed it out as well on Twitter where at the end of the half against Philadelphia, Mac, yes, he had the deep ball in Nikhil Harry that should have been caught in the whole sequence probably doesn't happen if that ball is caught. But he threw a ball complete the JJ Taylor inbounds on second down with no timeouts. And then they were forced to spike the ball on third down and then punt. And when that happened, it was a learning moment for Mac Jones. And Josh McDaniels mentioned yesterday that they hadn't really gone over that exact scenario and practiced before..

"Yeah, again, you know, maybe if the team was just learning about this today, like we were. Like, maybe they were. But I would be shocked if the Patriots didn't know every player. Everybody in the buildings vaccination status. They've known this and they've operated the way they've operated. Nothing that happened. And it sounds like they found out on Saturday, right? Because it's 5 days, but we're talking about him coming Wednesday. So it's 5 days from when they found out on Saturday. They've known this. And they've operated no one Cam Newton's not vaccinated. And they've operated at least externally, it appears as if they're okay with that. So yeah, externally, it looks like this monumental event. And sure, you never want to open the door for the backup to get reps. Drew Bloods I will tell you that. Alexander will tell you that, right? But like you said, he could blow the Giants away in the joint practices. I think if anything that maybe we go back to that sooner rather than later conversation where he can chip away at Cam Newton's lead pretty significantly, but this doesn't change anything for week one. I really don't think it does. At the end of the day, this is a good time for this to happen because all he's doing is missing training camp practices. This is not that important per se. But at the end of the day, the fear is like, we all woke up that Saturday morning before the Kansas City game last year. And we're hit with the news again that Cam Newton has entered COVID protocols and isn't gonna be eligible to play in the game. And the Patriots are definitely going to have to decide whether or not that matters in the equation. It certainly has to matter just a little bit. Let's get to some football talk though, 'cause that's enough about this COVID protocol that is great right now. The chats very gentle. Everybody and everybody's having a great time. So I think the most important part now from a football perspective is, as you said, Alex, this opens the door for Mac Jones to get a ton of reps this week against the starting defense potentially against the Giants starting defense twice, certainly once, but potentially twice on Thursday as well. Today, Mack was a little shaky. 17 to 31, started one for 6. There was a lot of would be sacks or close sacks that I would say during practice..

"Football sets, there is a strategic difference to the team, whether or not a player is vaccinated. Cam Newton not practicing for the next three days is not because of some BS NFL rule. He knew the rule, the team knew the rule. Cam Newton not practicing for the next three days is because he is not vaccinated. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. And when you look at the COVID protocols, which we all looked at when they came out a few months ago and now I feel like we're looking at them again today just to refresh our memories on all these types of things. And you look at the COVID protocols and you see what vaccinated players are allowed to do and allowed to get away with versus what unvaccinated players are going to go through this year. And I've talked to several patriots players who have all said to me, off the record that the Patriots as an organization have not pressured any individual player to get vaccinated, but the issue is, is that there are so many hurdles to overcome as a vaccinated player that is difficult to be on the team as a vaccinated player. It's difficult to be on the team as an unvaccinated player this season. So not only do you have all this COVID protocol stuff and reentry processes and all these types of things that you could run into, negative tests and what that could lead you down if you get that happen to you as an unvaccinated player. There's also rules within the club facility, right? That everybody has to be mad that you can't be in certain meeting rooms and you can't be in certain cafeteria areas or weight room areas and all these different types of things. So what the NFL has done is, and this is the NFL. This is not the Patriots. The NFL has done is they have forced the hand of the players to basically say everybody's going to get vaccinated one way or another, whether you agree with it or not, but we're going to make your life pretty much miserable and very difficult to be on an NFL team as an unvaccinated player..

"And this is komo. W i'm kim malcolm state officials here in. Washington are predicting another bad wildfire season in the northwest washington state experienced the second driest spring since eighteen ninety-five and in eastern washington that has primed forests and grasslands for wildfires. And of course with those fires comes a lot of smoke this year. There is a brand new tool to help us get prepared a five day. Smoke forecast ranil. Damn apolo is an atmospheric scientist with washington department of ecology. And i asked him why he and his colleagues built this tool simple answer because of public demand. We really got a whole lot of questions from the public about. What's going to happen this coming weekend. If their favorite hiking trail head would be okay to go to or some event that they were planning outdoors so it wasn't just the usual today for which we had operational last year anyway. People tend to want information a little further out and for sure you know. Being for warned is Gonna give people the ability to before armed so that. If you know what's coming you could preemptively take steps to protect your health. Minimize our exposure to smoke and restructuring activities accordingly. So we think it empowers people to do a better job of protecting themselves and we worked pretty hard to try and figure out the technical details and get over the challenges. How do you actually go about forecasting wildfire smoke. First of all. You've got to account for the weather. The variability of temperature wind speeds humidity in all the weather related variables on an hourly basis. So in in both time and space the next important step and this is where a lot of the uncertainty comes from is to try and understand the smoke emissions. Because you've not only got to get a good picture of current wildfire conditions which satellite imagery can inform you on but you've also got to be able to project out. What kind of wildfire smoke will be present in the next few days and that's where it's it's quite challenging because you don't know what new fires may spring up and where they would be. You don't know if firefighters will be able to get the upper hand on some existing fires or if those might just blow up themselves and there's the question of gloom rights how high the fumes would rise straight out of the fires or if the films would just the pretend to smaller and the creep along the surface so those are the big challenges but those all the variables that you have to china cops for real. How accurate is a smoke forecast. Five days out. I was afraid you'd ask. Unfortunately there is no easy way to know. There are many uncertainties in all the variables that they've got to consider so some level of give and take plus minus is to be expected the only way to truly evaluate it is to have a smoke or a series of bad smoke episodes but those are not good for people in. We're not going to hope that we get those smoke episodes just to be able to improve forecast product. It's not what we wish. On the citizens of our state we wish the very opposite but if and when those situations do manifest than we will be sure to collect the data and take it to the back to the drawing board and do what it takes to improve our forecast in the future but the certainly knocked our preferred way of improving the forecasts. You know radio. I been thinking about meteorologists and and how hard they work to try to predict the weather and people sometimes have this love. Hate relationship with their favorite weather forecast. Or you know you said it was going to be like this and it turned out to be like that and yet people are so reliant on that information What what do you want people to know in terms of what you and your colleagues are trying to provide and how people should interpret that information. Yeah fear that we'll probably end up in the same boat but the thing to pay attention to is not just your location and that alone. Maybe pay attention to areas around you. It's likely that there might be better or even worse air. Not far away from you so go with the most simplistic outlook and prepare for that. And then you can only be pleasantly surprised to that way renewal. Damn apolo is an atmospheric scientist and with washington. Department of ecology renewal. Thank you so much for walking through this new five day. Smoke forecasting tool. Thank you very much for having me..

You want to be right? You want to be happy do you want to be right? Because the ego gets in the way you know I. We didn't time for who was right or wrong. You know like who gives a shit? This is what I like to call academic masturbation, right? It just doesn't matter. We got a problem to solve. Let's solve it. "Well not exactly. So when Elliott? Gould dropped out of the picture and there was a kind of scramble to possibly and it was a place with a really short period of time. I'm not lasted very long. Because he was what was I think? Generating the interest financing and the picture but there was a moment where the idea was. How do we? How do we resuscitate here? And what do we do you know? I was at that moment in time and only for a brief moment I was sort of. You know hot young thing and they're given I were together. And you know there was this momentary discussion and it may literally only been in my head up you know how about if I stepped into this film because because I I went like my youth works to my advantage in this part point here Elliott. Gould is around thirty two. When it comes to tiger is being made. Chris was still in his twenties and was probably a better fit for the role of Luther at least age wise. I mean I had a copy of glimpse of Tiger for one hundred years. I mean I used to carry it around all over the place I dunno I I had this kind of fantasy about resuscitating that movie in that I you know this was going to be a great thing for me to do. I'm not sure I was right by the way but you know that was my idea time but it never worked out for Chris. He was not able to get the picture mate and considering the effort that Chris put into getting. This made one question. Did pop into my mind at any point while you were thinking about getting this made. Did you ever think to bring this to your father? No there's something. I should point out to you about Chris. His father was directing legend. Don Siegel for those of you. Unfamiliar With Siegel. He was the man behind invasion of the body. Snatchers dirty Harry. Charley varick escape from Alcatraz and a number of others. The man was an absolute legend. I don't remember ever thinking of giving it to my father to get the next question I would think you. That's why would you and I guess that would open a Pandora's box you there. The dysfunction was between me and my father. Now it's a perfectly reasonable question. He actually he had a very interesting project about. It was a really weird little kind of arty movie idea that he fell in love with a this kid who was kind of in some ways. It was a similar story That he was he wanted to do work with me. He wanted to make a movie with me and I think he felt a little guilty in that he didn't fight to put me into or choose to put me into And I think by the way he made the right choice the The movie he made with John Wayne the shooter I to play the kid in it through our part. Okay our because Iran hours like really good in that and in many ways it was really playing into all the things that Ron Howard did terribly well and that I would have had to act terribly well And so I think you know my father probably made the right choice but I think he's still complicated about it but I never. I never even considered. I just didn't feel like Don Seagal movie to me. Herman Rauscher took screenplay and turned it into a successful novel. He's in his nineties these days and when I asked to speak with him about a glimpse of Tiger. Here's how he responded. Thanks for your email. The attempted adaptation of a glimpse of Tiger was a bad experience. All around and not something. I want to revisit now. Still I do appreciate your interest and wish you all the best. Gould would end up. Owing Warner Brothers. One hundred and seventy five thousand dollars for the loss production of a glimpse of Tiger painted off to twenty five thousand dollars a year over seven years and he also didn't work for almost two years. Afterwards it was his mash director. Robert Altman that brought back before cameras for the excellent. The long goodbye in one thousand nine hundred seventy three however before gould could be cast he had to take a psychiatric evaluation and be legally declared. Sane in interviews. Gould refers to his time with glimpse of Tiger as the debacle or the humble back. Gary is talking about it on the podcast. Wpf with Marc Maron Blink. Something that was called at the time. A glimpse of Tiger and the way I saw it it was the little prince in urban America right now and I was the aviator and the princess. This girl and I didn't know that I should have tried to cast my wife. Jenny and I cast. I wanted to cast Kim Darby and I said to her. It's going to be difficult. I've never done this before to be playing a part in. This is a different part of the car to be really frightening just like this and so if if you get frightened or you don't understand where I'm coming just say timeout. Put your make a tee with your hands. Call me over to the side. I'm like a doll. I mean I need you to be happy secure and comfortable but she. She was scared. And I didn't know that I was way beyond limits in terms of the comprehension of the people. I was working with us. I put my heart in my life. You know and and the movie didn't get finished or no it didn't and that was the beginning of the humbling. Yes Oh yes. There was talk that Gould was on drugs. And that this clause into freak out or have a nervous breakdown but he's denied that he hasn't denied using drugs. Mind you the totally admits to using drugs. He likes to smoke a little marijuana and do some psychedelics but he denies that drugs was the problem. Gould instead says things Like his problem wasn't drugs. Reality was or. He didn't know how to play the part or that he had no perspective. I even had carotene and Barbara. Hershey came to stay with me for a while and he had two dogs and I love Carotene. I felt guilty look at Karen and accounting family. They're great American actors. And what look what? I'm doing how to get in this position and to do this but I mean there was. Nobody really there with me. Jenny was there but I can't say that she understood. And I certainly didn't understood but I didn't know that I didn't have the right To create I thought that I could and so I had to pay for it. I had to find out that there are boundaries. And I'm fine with it. I paid for the product. Gould's production company was basically done. Never made a movie out of the assistant. The book I mentioned in the opener they did make a few dollars off that woody Allen picture though it was nineteen seventy. Two's everything you wanted to know about sex but was afraid to ask the touch. The Ingmar Bergman film that Gould Start in was released in. Nineteen seventy one and was a flop. It received mixed reviews and recorded a loss of a little over a million dollars after the longer by in Nineteen seventy-three Gould's career picked back up for better or worse and he's been working steadily ever since one or brothers would be fine. Yeah I know no shock there. They took a glimpse of tiger script and gave it to director Peter Bogdanovich to see if he was interested he wasn't but then took some elements of it. Flip the sex of the leads and turn it into a screwball comedy and called. What's up? Doc Is San Francisco. The city chosen by one of the most sensitive new generation of filmmakers. Peter Bogdanovich for his maiden comedy. What's up doc starring? Barbra streisand and Ryan O'Neal. Well there's not much to see. Actually we're inside a tiny drag any experienced observer of trooping techniques which quickly sense the not only. Was it a big hit for one brothers. In nineteen seventy two. "Nineteen seventy the biggest movie star in the world was quite possibly Elliott Gould. Sure in Twenty Twenty. He may be best remembered. Ross and Monica's father on friends or maybe you would know him from the Ocean's eleven trilogy that in Nineteen Seventy. The world was his oyster then. Thirty two year old actor broke out a year earlier in Bob and Carol and Ted Analysis. A picture from filmmaker. Palmas Erkki about a hip couple who've become sexually liberated and they're UNHIP friends. Don't really get what's going on. We was also coming out as well. The movie was a hit and today almost seems like a time. Capsule of what was going on in California in nineteen sixty nine. Well I guess for some people in California in nineteen sixty nine. At the time it was edgy. And really it was the right movie at the right time. It earned four academy award nominations including one for Elliott Gould. Who Played Ted? The UNHIP husband Gould's next movie out was nineteen seventy smash the third highest grossing movie of the year a farcical comedy about the then ongoing Vietnam War which very subtly used the Korean war as a standing mash was again. The right movie at the right time. Director Robert Altman became an overnight. Hollywood player even though he'd been making movies since the nineteen fifties and Elliott Gould. He became an alias Star. This is the story of two indispensable military search. They have the army over a barrel but they take advantage of mash a motion picture. That raises some important moral question and then it drops them to Putin's doing in. This hospital was Internet. Look mother I want to go to work. In one hour we are the pros from Dover. Somebody gets dirty old man onto this operating theater. Then give me at least one nurse who knows how to work in close without getting her tits. In my way degenerated person I could have reached a position of responsibility in the army. Medical Corps was drafted. Five months after mass. Gould had his third success in a row. With the comedy-drama getting straight a minor hit about a graduate student torn between wanting to join the establishment and become a teacher and his sympathy for the anti-establishment students running around college. And it's getting straight that got gould the attention of legendary Swedish director. Ingmar Bergman Bergman best known for classics like the seventh seal and wild. Strawberries was looking to make his first english-language moving a drama called the touch. Abc Pictures who was producing the touch. Wanted Paul Newman or Robert Redford or even Dustin Hoffman to star but Bourbon wasn't interested in those guys. No no he wanted Elliott Gould to be fair when discussing Gould. At this time. I should point out that he did have to flops. In nineteen seventy after getting straight to comedies. Move and I love. My wife both came and went and are basically forgotten these days but by this time had already teamed up with producer Jack Brodsky and started his own production company. The first film released by Brodsky. Gold was one thousand nine hundred seventy one little murders directed by Alan Arkin after zone. Good Art left the project and starring Gould. Little murders is an odd movie on its best day. It's about a couple dealing with the increasing. Violence and weirdness going on in New York City shootings stabbings obscene phone calls garbage strikes and a bunch of other weird things happen seemingly almost at random throughout the movie. Did I mention it's a comedy? It's a black comedy but still lumers terrifying comedy starring Elliott Gould. Marcia rodd Donald Sutherland. Jacoby and Alan Arkin witness little murders. It's better than being victims are. Little murders was not a hit with audiences but critics liked it and it does have a cult following these days and this brings us to glimpse of Tiger a drama about an eighteen year old runaway. That's tiger and she falls for over human con artist named Luther they steal things and act responsibly. And eventually things turned tragic. Kim Darby from the recent head of true grit was cast as Tiger N Gould fresh off his trip to Europe and working with Bergman would play Luther actress David Bernie and Oliver Clark. We're also in the cast. David carradine would do the score. Yes that David and Herman Rocher who wrote summer. Forty-two would do the script and I read the script and this is not to say it was good. I just remember thinking it was really good. I'm sure I would think the same thing today. This is Christopher to bury. He's an actor and a director when it comes to a glimpse of tiger. He let me know he really didn't have anything to do with it. You know I really have Pixel to do with glimpse of Tiger okay. So why is he? Here let's it very good reason for that. I was Kim. Darby boyfriend at the time and we were both in New York. Is My memory. Okay yes so Chris's involvement is peripheral at best. But he was dating one of the stars of the picture and also the rest of the major players. Either didn't respond to me or are no longer with us. Chris really liked the script in nineteen seventy one. How much well? He liked it enough that he wanted. Elliott Gould's part for himself. I remember being extremely impressed with this but look I. I was a young self involved and selfish young actor and immediately salivated because I wanted to play the part Anthony. Harvey was born into direct Harvey. Who passed away in? Two thousand seventeen is probably best known for directing the lion in winter at being Stanley. Kubrick's editor Dr Strangelove and Alita. I can see that Anthony. Harvey would have been a candidate for this film. And I'll you know. Say why he was a extremely successful commercial director? Bent you know was in character-driven material and this was definitely a character driven film and he was kind of. I hate these terms. But you know for lack of and shorthand. I'll use them. You know he was a sort of actor director or certainly fought to be somebody who could tell performances out of actors so I think it made a certain sense. Google decided that the key to his character and glimpse of Tiger was to always be in character. And this might have been the problem. The first day of shooting took place on a New York City subway and the only thing accomplished on day. One was the firing of the director Anthony. Harvey and Elliott Gould. Got into a big fight right from the get-go and Harvey stormed off the set. Harvey was known for being quite meticulous. And very precise. Maybe that's something that through Gould off. Harvey was also very proper Englishman and Gould. Well Gould was not. The argument was over. How the scene was being shot and since cooled was the producer and the star. He wasn't going anywhere but without harvey neither. Would the movie calls were made to Alan? Arkin and getting straight director. Richard Rush to take over but both declined in the interim assistant director. Bert Harris would be directing day to brought a warner brothers. Executive to the set. Paul Heller was sent to see what was going on. The word was Elliott. Gould was acting strangely. And Kim Darby was supposedly scared of him. According to Heller he would just stand there and glare at her and she in turn would retreat to her trailer but Gould's behaviour went beyond creepy glares. The day he fought with Anthony Harvey. He had decided to wear a football helmet and have cotton balls attached to his face. Because also the time Kim Darby was sitting in front of a glass top coffee table would ran into the room and smashed his foot through it. Keep in mind. This was not in the script and no cameras were rolling. He was also wearing a bathrobe and sucking on a pacifier. Darby has said that while Gould would have these outbursts. He never actually heard her but she was terrified. At that point in Kim's life she very much was a sort of you. Know Willowy recessive flower. Who could easily be frightened by people? I mean that was the I don't know that it was actually the truth of who she was but it was certainly what she project it. So I get that that she would have projected that she that his behavior was erotic and thus unsettling and frightening. But I don't think she was really frightened of them. I think that it was just. It wasn't what she expected increase. Jesus you know have a wonderful time and make a movie together and you know be have a kinship and and because of whatever he was going through at that point you know. That was not possible. The Third Day Warner Brothers decided to send armed security guards to the set. The idea was to put Kim. Darby at ease and that nothing was going to get out of hand although now the presence of armed guards with scaring Elliott School. He's stopped showing up to the set would be in his apartment refusing to go to work cast members and crew member. The like both tried to coax him out. Phone calls visits nothing. Worked AND PAUL. Heller ended up receiving a mandate from Warner brothers. If Gould was going to show up he was shut. Production down and the next day. Cool didn't show up. When Heller went to make the phone call to shut the production down. He found out that the crew had cut the phone line. They want to keep working after all it was the crew that was going to be out of work. It didn't really matter though. Hello simply went to a phone booth to make the call and that was it. A glimpse of.
