Almost 40 million people. By so doing, we showcases. 99% of which Are totally harmless. FDA Commissioner Dr Stephen Han disagrees. What I'd say is, you know any case we don't want to have in this country. Any death. Any case is tragic. A vaccine is still a ways away with health officials, hoping one could be produced by the end of this year or early next year. "What's in a name changing games in taking down statues in Fitchburg this well some are fighting for education writes these stories and more on the KDKA radio ten twenty morning show all right stretch and ban movement that range of motion it's physical therapy and the pandemic we continue our series in conjunction with the Allegheny health network of course I'm mark a health care company about what they're doing at that great health care center and of course across the region when it comes to dealing with a pandemic and tonight it is physical therapy in conjunction with the Allegheny health network orthopedic institute and a preview at all joining me right now your host since nineteen ninety one will be with you to start the program in just about a half hour but he joins us now with a preview Dr Gerald pie for so it's important even during a pandemic to keep moving right doc absolutely you know one of the side effects of this pandemic and people stayed isolated and so on because we don't get enough movement people are laying around an account you're dead you're sitting around and we have to make conscious efforts to stay moving though go out for walks that type of thing if you go out for a walk what were massacred and so on and keep her distance from other people and so on but walking is an excellent excellent exercise and not enough people are doing that through this and then I will be talking with the political circles are compelling about that and how people can feel safe even if they need to have physical therapy at the physical therapy facility what precautions are taken so that people can feel safe by going on meeting a physical therapist face to face some of the the things that were done during the the total isolation of lockdown is the physical therapists were talking to their patients to resume and face time and so on trying to help them that way but there's nothing that really sh substitutes for that face to face hands on physical therapy you know I have noticed because I have obviously be treated at the Allegheny health network orthopedic institute and whether it's out in cranberry or on federal street you have that area were occupational therapy is taking place on a regular basis and it has to be hands on because when you think about what you're dealing with that physical therapist has to see what the games are and if they're making progress and that's pretty hard even though technology is great it's pretty difficult if you think you can just do it in the virtual world as opposed to what is cyberspace right doc absolutely unders applications of our usage he sort of course you can do that at all there's electrical stimulation that is sometimes used there are units that can be used at home for electrical stimulation but like I said there's nothing like to substitute relay for going through the physical therapists that have that hands on approach we're gonna talk about that you know physical therapist now are able to see patients like positions are seeing patients in our office and there are precautions we are taking so that people can be saved well the reason I have to believe the show so important tonight if you continue with the series concerning the corona virus you know we heard just recently Allegheny county had more cases that tested positive but more selective surgeries are underway now so everybody's got to be on the same page and there's going to be a lot of people getting hip replacements knee replacements and meniscus surgery ankle surgery and shoulder surgery so they're going to be going in getting the procedure done but there is a lot that takes place after that surgery as far as post op so right now this this show is very timely because probably physical therapy is gonna be one of the busier things at the Allegheny health network in conjunction with high mark in the months to come Dr bye for and after any procedure rehabilitation business support does the the corrective surgery if you don't carry out the physical therapy at a rehabilitation center surgery may be for naught it may just be wasted time and money if you don't follow rehabilitation guidelines and physical therapy guidelines to get that joint moving again to reduce the pay increase the motion that center all of those things are extremely important you know one of the things doctor pie for that I've learned from you during the show on and off since its inception in people at the Allegheny health network you know back in the day bed rest bed rest bed rest but now if you talk to somebody even gets a knee replacement there pretty much up at it you know shortly after that surgery so the idea is to get up and get moving and we haven't been able to do that show equally important is why people need to just remember they've got to get in and get those appointments and all follow through with the physical therapist for the Allegheny health network and in the health care industry because you have to get moving now that's the that's the way it is now as far as post operations are when it comes to some of the soldiers that we were discussing it's not bad rest it's up and moving doc absolutely and there is a backlog of people who needed hip replacement shoulder replacements knee replacements and so on I was talking to one of our group group the engine replacement surgeons a few weeks ago on the show and he was saying it's going to take him to the three months to get caught up to where he was before as far as the number of ships and needs the beginning because he said it is like booked her for months ahead and do so would you take three months all then does that the the push everything all on the whole and so new patients that are coming in for a valuation close to the patients that were already evaluated in a surgery that all has to be fit into the schedule and you can only expand your schedules two of the three level not of significant amount because there's just not enough time and enough personnel one slow one it took to work twenty four hours a day and and the people doing that type of work also need to get the rest so it is going to take a few months for those your your poll schedules to get back to normal doc always a pleasure looking forward to tonight show we will talk to you soon okay okay all right again physical therapy they're gonna be talking about it tonight of course Allegheny health network with boutique Instituto does a great job with that Dr Piper will be hosting tonight with his special guest one remind all of you for to reach the physician tonight his gaster anything that has to do with what we're talking about four one two doctors and you can also get everything that you needed a H. N. dot org and then.
