"fisher building" Discussed on Daily Detroit

"I'm jared as I'm your guy for today Monday February tenth twenty twenty. There are a bunch of interesting stories around town. We're going into those right after. We think our members very very quickly on patriotic. This show possible. We're looking to add fourteen more members by the time we hit show number five hundred. This is show four thirty three so so if we do this together I think we can totally make that happen. It's just a few bucks a month and it helps make this show join us at Patriotair Dot Com. I'm slash daily Detroit and thank you on an earlier episode of the show. We told you that the city of Detroit was partnering with the University of Michigan disturbed doing their own economic forecasts separate from the county the state and the region. The first of those reports is now out. The top line is that the city of Detroit is looking to outpace the job growth of the state as a whole before we get into this. I'm GonNa give you the heads up that we're going to talk numbers and I'm going to walk through them as clearly as we can. Dan Numbers and audio. Don't always mix the forecast reports a one point seven percent growth rate in employment. Coming up ahead. Seventy percent faster. The State of Michigan as a whole that would put the city's unemployment rate at seven point nine percent by two thousand twenty four with sixty seven hundred jobs added it also so says that the Labor participation rate in the city will go up from forty seven point three percent to forty eight point five percent by two thousand twenty four specifically calling out gains from two who signature projects the FCA plan expansion on the east side and the Gordie Howe International Bridge both of these have a lot of government involvement in one way or another it also says the city will see increase receives from the income taxes from these new employees but other sources of revenue will be very limited in their growth due to Michigan state laws. And this is something that cities across the state face as property rises property values. Go up the taxes go with those property. Values are capped to inflation. So so this is interesting to me and although this would be some progress I'm also going to call out some things. We should keep in mind as Washington. County Community College Workforce Development Expert. Jose Ray a is highlighted in our show just last week that Labor participation rate is nowhere near healthy. It's about twenty points to go until until we get to something normal now twenty two nineteen points. Sure that's progress but still a long way to go also unemployment wise. We really don't know what's going to happen to the greater economy in the United United States. We are assuming no economic downturn and I mean look maybe something fundamentally changed but we are in the longest period without a recession in. US history we right now. So I look at it and I go well. Could something change. The state's unemployment rate is also sitting around four point one percent so yes seven. Point nine percent is progress. But it's still close to double what the state's doing and finally I'm just nervous about pinning so much on big projects which look if for being very honest historically do not come up with all of the jobs and numbers. Promise I mean if you can look at Comerica Park you can look at all these. He's different developments where they just the numbers haven't panned out as people expected and I'd like to see an office of small projects I'd like to see more focus on these individual. The things that need help that need navigation to make them happen in the city because because there is progress happening in some places but we need residents to stay we need residents to come and I know from from talking to folks. It's still a mess to deal with City Hall. I'm personally going to be very curious about those twenty twenty cents as numbers when it comes to a hard count of the city's population when when we see those census numbers. I think we're GONNA see some of these other numbers start to shift but I will link to it all in the show notes. It is interesting to look at and something to think about the west side. Suburb of Lavonia one of Michigan's largest municipalities is going to lose their sears.
