You Don't Need a PhD to Master Card Counting

"Card counting isn't impossible to master. You don't need a PhD in statistics. In fact, one thing that makes card counting hard isn't the actual counting, it's something else. To dig into this, let me introduce my guest today. I think he's the world's most well -known card counter. With almost half a million subscribers on his YouTube channel and 45 million views in total, Stephen Bridges is probably the most recognisable card counter out there. Here he is introducing himself. Yeah, my name is Stephen Bridges and I'm a card counter, which basically means that I legally beat casinos at Blackjack. So I play high stakes and I film a hidden camera show about doing that. And I get into all sorts of trouble with the casinos whilst trying to beat the game. Now, some of you listening might be wondering what card counting actually is. Maybe you're like me. Maybe your perception was that card counting was a myriad of formulas and equations, incomprehensible to a layman like me. Well, it's not quite like that. So in essence, card counting involves keeping track of the cards that have been played in a game of Blackjack. And keeping track of them gives you an idea of what cards are remaining and what cards are likely to come. And then you can use that to gain an advantage over the house. So specifically in Blackjack, if there's a lot of tens and aces on the way and you're playing Blackjack perfectly, then you can gain an advantage. So in those situations, I'll bet loads of money. And when I don't have an advantage, I'll bet the smallest amount of money possible. So this really is playing the game in an unconventional way, although it wouldn't be considered cheating because you're just using the same information that all other players have access to at the table. And the thing I usually mention when anybody asks me if what I do is cheating is I'd say, can you name any game in the world where thinking too much or thinking in a particular way would be considered cheating? And usually the answer is no. And it's just imagine playing a game of chess and being told, oh, you can't think four moves ahead. Three moves ahead is fine, but not four moves

Why Elizabeth Warren Is Wrong About Crypto and the Fentanyl Epidemic

"Featured story is an opinion piece by CoinDesk's Daniel Kuhn. Our piece today is entitled, Why Elizabeth Warren is Wrong about Crypto and the Fentanyl Epidemic. For a while, crypto's role in the illegal and gray area drug trade seemed swept under the rug, or at least it was not getting the attention it could have, which is good and which the Fed shuttered back in 2013. It's good because some people have a tendency to moralize about drug use, and the less crypto is linked to crime in general, the less the entire industry will be stigmatized. However, it would arguably be better to be upfront about such things, assuming they're going on, as data now suggests. If crypto ever has a shot at finding a killer use case, or mass user base who understands why blockchains are important. U .S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, is calling for a greater crypto crackdown following new research from blockchain analytics firms Chainalysis and Elliptic that found Bitcoin and Tether, or USDT, have become cornerstone to the global fentanyl trade. These are the same research companies that put out annual reports showing a fraction of a fraction of crypto transactions can be tied to illicit use. Quote, crypto is helping fund the fentanyl trade and we have the power to shut that down, Warren said, continuing, it's time. End quote. The Senator is a longtime critic of crypto, who recently made an incomprehensible anti -crypto army campaign part of her re -election bid. But does the Senator have a point? I already know what the crypto faithful will say. Chainalysis estimates less than 1 % of total crypto transactions are related to crime, so it doesn't matter if Chainalysis is now saying there's evidence. At least $37 .8 million worth of crypto was sent to drug manufacturers in China since 2018. But hold that thought, we'll get back to it. First, let's try to place crypto's alleged use for drug sales in the context of the global drug trade. To start, it's difficult to judge just how large the fentanyl economy is, because it is, by nature, kept mostly out of sight. But if Chainalysis and ellipsis figures are to be meaningful, they need context. According to one source Chainalysis cited, total quote chemical exports, end quote, from China, assumed by most authorities to be the largest manufacturer and exporter of black and gray market drugs, surpassed $100 billion in 2021 alone.

"Should have been fired is blasting former House Speaker Pelosi for hampering her evacuation from the u .s. I mean, he's got his hand in any number of issues. He's vehemently anti -israel Israel despite his nominal Jewish background among other issues, but he's disproportionately focused in recent years on His so -called reform prosecutor project and you know, sometimes you have situations like, you Know here in Florida where you and I live Lisa where Governor DeSantis last year took steps to remove a Soros backed prosecutor Andrew Warren in the Tampa Florida area. "In the past? Or if you haven't used them in the past, how did you verify it? So now we learned that the source who said Biden took a bribe was a trusted FBI source. And yet the FBI does nothing with the information. That is so strange. That is so weird. It's almost like the FBI is a political action committee operation oppo covering up for Joe Biden. "What happened to Tucker. He had the number one show. He was doing great. It shows very interesting. And he was out there in the sense that he was telling the truth. In the sense that you know, in no sense, was he telling the truth, but okay. To me, the other ones are out there because they're lying in their hiding in their afraid to talk. He said that the, uh, he suggested Fox would have been successful in the lawsuit had their lawyers talked about free speech. Their lawyers did talk about free speech. That didn't work because it was pure lies based on your lies about the 2020 election, right? But it's just absolutely. Here they go with O cancel culture and Tucker. It's like, no, you can call your boss the C word. You're free to do that. You're also free to get fired. I mean, there's this thing like all different rules should apply to them, right? Absolutely. And there's so much power in their lives, right? Because they control the media and they have so much money that they become untouchable and they pump this poison into people's brains and then those people repeat it in their communities and the thing about Tucker is, you know, he went to Trinity College, right? He did some time at Yale. He did some time at Harvard. He went to Swedish boarding schools before he went to saint George's, which is on the man of the people. Right. Right, exactly. You know what I mean? A fish stick air. The guys never had a callous in his life. He films the show up in Maine in a converted garage that he turned into a TV studio. Body of mine, I won't say his name, but he's an anchor at Fox. And he's been at Fox for over 20 years. He was a local, a local guy who got caught up in a big merger. He's not, you know, he's not an Uber liberal, but he said it was a normal journalist in comparison to what happened with Fox News. And I asked him about Tucker, and he said, everybody hated Tucker at the network. He said, everybody hated him. He said his whole production staff was a bunch of 20 year old racist white dudes, and that's all that Tucker would listen to. And he said, like, the suits and the sort of behind the scenes people always hated Tucker at the place. Yeah, he's the most punchy. Easy face in America. Yeah, if you're not counting Ted Cruz, which take a listen to this. A White House that's being run by 25 year old radicals who figure hacked just let it all default. What a week. Where these are little marxists with no experience in the real world, we need to bring back the Joe Biden who's done this before. Not the one who is behaving like a terrorist, which is what Biden is doing right now. So much. Oh my God. They are just lost as a party. This is just the gaslighting goes on and on. Yeah. There's no shame. There's no, there's no checks and balances on them, right? Their leader is Kevin McCarthy, a man without a spine or a moral compass. And they're all these guys like that. I saw like Josh hawley doing a TED Talk or something over the weekend. A clip of just insanity, trying to tell people how to be men. It's the lowest common denominator political discourse and it's dangerous and we've already seen the results. And we got to figure out a way to stop it. Yeah. Ron DeSantis is having what is Elon Musk call it a rapid unscheduled assembly. This assembly. Yes. But I mean, here we go again with these phony, I don't even know God wants me to be president candidates on the right. He visited Israel as part of his international trip to obviously get ready for a presidential run for, and he credited a prayer he made at the Western Wall with largely sparing Florida from a hurricane in 2019. I mean, oh my God. Right? It's insanity, you know? Because it works, you know? And there's another guy. You couldn't be more unchristian than Ron DeSantis. Look at the last 6 months of decisions he's made. I don't think Jesus would have signed off on a single one. Yeah. No, he's punishing people. He's targeting people. He's hurting people. He killed people in his state during COVID because he wanted political expediency over public safety, you know? And he's still doing that. Yeah. I wanted to get your take on the Montana governor Greg GN 40. He's the one that assaulted the reporter. I believe, okay. His son is non binary. He said he asked the governor. He asked his father to veto three bulls concerning transgender and LGBTQ rights in a meeting at the governor's office last month. David G 40 is his name, said that he had identifies as non binary and uses the pronouns he and they. Well, I mean, who knows what the governor's going to do. But again, you know, until it becomes personal, I have no idea whether that's going to have any effect on his politics, do you? I don't. You know, I hope it does. I hope some of these folks soften their hearts and realize, you know, not just kind of love is love, but this stuff is normal. People are living the lives they want to live according to their own truths and it has no negative effects on our society other than your resistance to it. Other than you targeting and marginalizing these folks. Instead of lifting them up and supporting them so we can all evolve and you don't have to have people growing up in the shadows. I have a lesbian mother. You know, I was practically raised by gay men. I've been around transgender non binary men that my whole life. Everything they fear, I've been exposed to as a child. It has had no negative effects on my life other than it's just banal, but now it's normal to me. I think that's the thing people have to see is the normalcy of life. Life is life. Everyone's struggling. They're hard, no matter what sexual orientation your partner is. You know it's no mean when it causes a chuck Todd to nearly do journalism, but he had some right wing douchebag on yesterday that was, you know, going, I don't just going off. There's an X and a Y chromosome, and that's it. There's two sexes, and even chuck towers, it will say there's research saying the opposite. And Lou, I think it was null that just said, why should the government be involved in these intensely personal decisions? I was saying when I was young Catholic kid, the first time I had heard of a transgender, I was confused. I didn't understand it, but who cares? Who gives a. I don't want to take away people's rights. It's like, why should the government be involved in any of that? Absolutely. And what are we denying ourselves as a society by attacking that marginalizing it instead of lifting it up? You know, life is a feast. It's bountiful. And the more diversity you have, the more you learn and evolve as a person, you know, people have gifts and truths and courage and and

"What happened to Tucker. He had the number one show. He was doing great. It shows very interesting. And he was out there in the sense that he was telling the truth. In the sense that you know, in no sense, was he telling the truth, but to me, the other ones are out there because they're lying and they're hiding in their afraid to talk. He said that the, uh, he suggested Fox would have been successful in the lawsuit had their lawyers talked about free speech. Their lawyers did talk about free speech. That didn't work because it was pure lies based on your lies about the 2020 election, right? But it's just absolutely. Here they go with oh, cancel culture and Tucker. Now, body of mine, I won't say his name, but he's an anchor at Fox. And he's been at Fox for over 20 years. He was a local a local guy who got caught up in a big merger. He's not, you know, he's not an Uber liberal, but he was a normal journalist in comparison to what happened with Fox News. Yeah, he's the most punching face in America. Yeah, if you're not counting Ted Cruz, which take a listen to this. A White House that's being run by 25 year old radicals who figure heck, just let it all default. What a weekend. Where these are little marxists with no experience in the real world, we need to bring back the Joe Biden who's done this before. Not the one who is behaving like a terrorist, which is what Biden is doing right now. So much. Oh my God. They are just lost as a party. It's just the gaslighting goes on and on. Yeah. "We're back with Josh bloom from trail effect and I want to find out, Josh, you've had some incredible guests. I actually listened to one of your podcast episodes about this guy who ended up moving to Park City where I used to live. And this guy is just a monster. He knew people he was successful in his field. He had been publishing magazines and stuff like that. And just really well known how did you get him or some of your other large guests? What was your strategy and how can we learn from it? Networking is my number one strategy. And so with that, particular gaster referring to rob Reed, I happen to be friends with his college roommate slash first business partner. And so I reached out to Chris, who was his college roommate and business partner to connect me with rob Reid. Now, we don't always have that deep of a network, right? But we've all heard a lot of us have heard about digging the well before you need it, right? Yeah. And that's something I know you can't remember where you took it from, but I took it from Adam harbor. Is it Adam harbinger? I don't know, but I've definitely heard that. I think about it for most things, but definitely with these relationships you want to, I'm all about having those connections well before you ever have to ask for anything. Yeah, I said it wrong. It's Jordan harbinger. Okay. And so when I first started podcasting, the first guest I ever got was a personal friend. I never knew what I didn't know how to talk in a podcast. I knew that I could say 5 words and he'd go in for the next two hours. So he was like my perfect guest. But beyond that, I have people with friends that are within the industry. And I've talked to them about being on this show. They've come out of the show and a lot of times, you get one guest, that guest might know four other people that would be good for your show. And maybe you don't know if they're all good, but say two of the four people are. And so they connect you with those two people. Well, those two people can connect you with two more people, and it just grows kind of like compound interest. You know, and so that's how I have sourced a lot of my guests. I've also just done cold messages or cold emails, and usually that works. It's strange, but it works. When you tell them you have a podcast, they want to come on the show. It's rare that.

"As well. But my podcast was specifically in the real estate space. And the conferences that I attended were all in the real estate space and there's this thing called limited partners and general partners, general partners run the show of big apartment buildings. And limited partners are the passive investors like the stock market that puts the fuel in. And there are many passive investors on that end that think to themselves, I want less fees from my general partner. I want them to not take an acquisition fee. I want them to not take a disposition fee. I want them to not take management fee. I want as much of that money that could be available. I think could rightfully go to us the passive investors because we're the ones putting in the money. And there was this guy who ended up being my perfect avatar that I've also spoken about him on the show. His name is siva. Siva is a 42 year old male Indian engineer with three kids who had invested in multiple deals and had at least a $1 million left to continue investing in deals. He loves to hang out, stay up at night, connect with other people. He's a bridge engineer, and I just respect the guy so much. One of the things Steve has said to me once, he wants me to take fees. He wants me to make money. And for a long time, I didn't understand that. I asked siva, why when all of these other passive investors are like wanting me to take the smallest amount of money, you want me to take a larger amount of money and he said, well, here's why Adam is if you are making money on these apartments, you have more motivation to do a good job. You have more motivation to keep doing it. And to not just quit and leave the apartment and then I lose all of my effing money, right? Then he doesn't have any money. He loses also his investment. So for him, it was about those win wins and for you and your show for you to be able to have that longevity, you need to be making money. And I have a podcast episode. I haven't looked it up specifically, but coming to my mind, I've got three that stick out about monetization episode 5 episode ten in episode 30 of this podcast. One of the three is about the problem that many of us have had, I used to be and it sounds like Josh, you used to be where I preferred not to make money through the podcast. I thought that I would be a bad person if I made money through the podcast. And now I make money through the podcast. And I don't feel bad about it at all. This month, we were able to be our largest month in our whole entire history as a company, and it came through the podcast, and do you know what that does to me? It gives me more motivation to keep putting out more content to keep supporting people to keep helping people to keep growing to do more marketing.

But you don't change not hosting on this podcast get till topic real quick W nba parade if anybody seeing the footage on wnba trade I don't know what italian if y'all still delusional shaking that the wmba should be as big as the nba mean. Y'all living in some fairy tale world imaginary made up fairy tale world. that doesn't even exist. You should parade alone. Should tell you that is not a lot of interest in women's sports because first of all tell a lot lies on sports other night will the justice guild. No they're not. They can't shoot as good most home can't dribble as good as the best dribbler. You show me a female in the nba. Gerbil that carry is heard. I see yet. So that's why you know. Let me shoot is good. Shoot as good. They can't shoot his for you know Most of the women. India can't even dunk almost every person in the ak- almost ninety nine probably ninety nine percent of india dog and let ninety nine percent of the wmba kid. You know they play. What a swallow ball in a shorter three point line and they already get offensive when people talk about the lower goal setting adopt. They lowered to go so they could duck. It will be a lot more excited and then if you want to blame anybody for the wmba is lack of families. You need to blame women 'cause as about ten or fifteen percent of the women on his planet that watch the wnba as about twenty percent men which is two times to present women. It's not for me. It's not the men to solely support a female sport. They already do. The wnba is subsidizing. The wnba chicken. A hundred million a year if it wasn't for the nba get a hundred million a year. Wnba will be done and over with already in iraq. All women to be playing overseas in iraq. Now part of the blame is that these women just don't have marketing a brand right. They don't have a push their brand right. They make too many excuses for while brands. Go right i mean they all want raises and the league is not even profitable. Have of the teams in the league are not even make a profit. I never heard of a business. That isn't negative profit but they're giving raises fat chance. Not likely you know what happens is a little fairytale imaginary made up book. That's the problem..

You're doing great, excited to have you on the show here we're talking about probably one of the largest concerns we hear from either retirees or folks zooming in on retirement. And that's this concept, You know? Do I have enough money and my going to be okay? You know, Sam, one of the common questions I ask when I'm teaching a class is how many folks feel That they have a written retirement income plan. Here's the Caribbean for everybody that you understand written retirement income plan that you understand, and often times you've been there at the classes often ties is one 23 hands that go up in a room. You know, 25 or 30 people And you know that's unfortunate. But if you're listening today, and you're thinking, boy, I don't have that either You're in the majority, not the minority. So so So do understand that most people don't feel like they have a written retirement income plan. But, boy when we talk about this topic, Sarah this fear of running out of money, making sure you have enough. Developing that written income plan is so vital Tony. Absolutely, and I think it is so vital and this is being our last tip of the day. It's perhaps the most cliche, but it's extremely important. You know, you must develop a written plan that addresses the risk we discussed today. You should have the following items accounted for in a solidified written plan, you know, number one. Do you need income to supplement your normal income sources? How much income one doesn't need to start? Have you factored in How inflation or taxes or cost of living will factor income need over time? Do you have any insurance is built for the long term for long term illness or catastrophic illness that occur. You know? Do you understand what type of stock market risk you have in.

"Com slash fireworks so needless to say we've had a lot of humbling experiences as someone who really struggles. I've gotten way better as you guys know. Talk about it but as someone who does struggle with social anxiety are worried about bugging people. I feel like. I haven't really networked to my full of -bility 'cause i'm always scared of are used to always be scared there. We go of a youtube or not knowing who i am and then thinking fan girl or i'm too like i'm too much. I'm just like obsessed with them. When i'm really not and i quickly had the like the aha moment. I guess you could say of realizing. There is such a difference between like dedicated followers. And then just people who may not even know your name but clicked subscribe like when i go through my subscribe list on youtube. There are some people who have screen like like cute user names but it's not their real name and i'm like do i even know the real name or bloggers that you follow it and i i'm like do i knew anything about you. I really don't. It doesn't mean i'm obsessed with you and that i'm a crazy fan. It just means. I think content and whatever and i think a lot of influencers especially when i first started and i hit two million subscribers. I remember thinking. Oh my god. There are two million people that are like die hard fans instead of realizing no. There's probably some random person. Yeah i was like. Oh my god i choose million like it was like i don't know i just that was in my head of like. Oh that's how it is. Until i finally had the moment of realizing bitch like stop. Just stop not. You're not hot shit. Oh my god. That's i think. I think i've always thought of it is like two million people have seen my face. That's how i always thought of it. Oh i love that. Like they might not be able to like point me on the crowd but like at some point or another. They probably saw my face. Which is yeah. Even that's like weird to think about. No no totally that makes with not getting into parties. I was like okay clearly I don't not getting into this party of two million people love me literally. I don't get it. i'm totally kidding. Another thing. I don't know if this has happened to you. There's been multiple times where the same people introduce themselves to me. Oh baby i'm like we've met six times. Am i that forgettable or anything for me. It's not my manager. Officing mahindra renault me but like managers in the like ecosystem of digital creators. Which i know they know they have to like. Also we're usually friends with their clients and moult like overa- over high. I'm blank high blank. I'm no we. We know each other like we know that so. I've had it mostly from creators not as much managers interesting but one specific creator. I'm thinking of i remember. He introduced himself to me like six times. And then i remember i. I was so pissed. I was like wow so rude. Whatever and then and then i realized you know what maybe he struggles with social anxiety and doesn't know if i remembered him or something but it was to the point where i was like. This is weird. Like i know everything about you linked to me really. I don't know if it's an ego thing. I don't know if it's a social anxiety thing regardless knocking to judge it but definitely humbling moment of you know what maybe i don't know maybe that isn't humbly moment. Maybe that's just more of a. What the fuck. I have no idea i had moment last night. This kind of has to do with youtube. But also just like in my life. And i thought it was just sweet and wanted to share with the class so i went back to my parents house last night and i haven't been back to my parents house in so-so long really wants a few months ago in the years so i went back and i want to go to the bathroom and i was like oh i should just go use bathroom. I guess i went upstairs to my room and bathroom right there. And as i was in the bathroom between us girls my tummy was really hurting so i was there for a while and i was just looking around in the bathroom. Looks like completely different than wanna use. My bedroom looks so different than what it used to. Obviously that bathroom and bedroom is where i started my youtube channel like pretty much a decade ago making video on the window sill to say when you posted it on your story i recognize. I recognized it as your room really have left love pillow. It's like the room looks so different. Obviously like it's the same thing when you leave your parents make it like a gym or something like it looks different but it just brought back so many memories for me and i was in the bathroom. I had a lot of time to think. And i was looking around and it looks completely different. Like i used to have like fish wallpaper. It was crazy looking like fish wallpaper and they completely rip down. It's all like gray. And really pretty now and i was just looking around thinking about like when i did my in my bathroom medicine cabinet videos and like my morning routines right film like gopro like hitting the water and being like oh this is going to be such good shot for my morning routine and i was just like reminiscing like how i thought about like what i used to be sad and i would cry when i would come home from high school because people are not being nice about my channel or like boys would like wouldn't like me and be so sad and like crying in the bathroom and then all of a sudden there is a knock on the door and cow in the hallway and he was like. Hey rome just checking on you okay and i was like oh i'm okay. Thank you and he was like girls and he was talking to the puppies outside. And i was just like a full circle moment in like i don't know i looked at myself in the mirror and i like got teary eyed and i was like i never thought it was something so small but like being in that moment i was like wow i never imagined in high school or like what i was making those videos and i was upset that i'd be so happy now and it was just like an aha moment for me. I have to say. I fully agree. There's something about i've been. I feel like i've been going to my parents house too. And when you go into your old room where you made videos where you the career that you have today and you had no idea is also like a surreal awesome humbling experience because you quickly are so quickly brought back to that younger version of yourself. You're an older version of yours like it's so weird you're the same person but it fills crazy. I can't i totally totally feel that too. Oh i love the nostalgia. I think i need to go home or just like feel it. I just i love the feeling that yes. I'm gonna love this subject and yang well on that happy note. I think we can wrap it up some green episode. What a nice walk down memory lane. And i hope you guys enjoyed it if you want to hear more humbling experiences. We've got plenty. And i can't wait 'til we're in the studio very soon and can do video and also include photos and things with what we're talking about because it's gonna be hilarious. Also speaking of studio let us know what guests you guys want to see on pretty basic because we are so excited to finally do episodes in person with guys. i'm so excited But thank you so much for listening. "In a sense like data those are the videos he's producing and now the video people see. These are the videos at my new producers producing. But you and. I are just having this conversation of like before. People didn't know behind the scenes video. I would come up with every single like title exactly what the video is going to consist of. I had no sounding board or help with that whatsoever. Which is honestly what. I struggled with the most because i was losing my sentence three. Yeah i was just so burned out. And then when i would come i would tell them. Exactly what the shot should look like exactly what to set it up as exactly how to film it and then exactly how i wanted. It edited and that was like like double the shots and exactly whereas now. I'm so much happier. Because i'm so much less hands on. I have people to help me in a sounding board and it's nothing against eli just people that like actually watched content that i'm makings of just makes it a little bit easier because they can be a little bit more opinionated but i totally. I think it was just interesting when i got that feedback. But it's just like they're two completely different jobs now. I have someone who's like completely helping produce content and like from start to finish whereas before we even videographer totally and there were so many times. I remember you telling me like. Oh we were supposed to in. We ended up just chatting. You know what i mean. Because he was like really close friends unilaterally. So i feel like what helped me the most. Was you know hiring people and even ev- even though ashley was the best thing for me for my channel. Because she knows me she's she learned how to use a camera so well but in the end it really benefited me more to have someone come in as more of an employee who you know. I can't just be like no. We don't want to go urban instead like that can't happen. Yeah so i totally. I think i think what you're doing now is great. Honestly thank you. I thought it was funny but again. Just weird timing that all of that happened at the same time literally not ready. I'm so sorry alicia. Alicia services are still open Hopefully people can see that that was misjudgment and doesn't reflect my Ability.

"Never go to the post office again. I also man. I did that. At and t. Meet up and it was the same situation where you know. No one was telling us to promote it was just. Hey do this thing cool. Let's do it. We go and we're supposed to be there for three hours in literature to standing in this. At and t. Store like talk like you went to store in the store. It was four girls night in season. Three remember that and we did these pop ups and what's funny is the first one the first one there were thousand people in san francisco. The second to we were standing there waiting for one person to come in. Like i'm not kidding. It is such an interesting hannah montana world like some days. You're so cool and other days you're really not or people come in shopping for phones. And they're like who are you sometimes. I'm cool online some. i did. No-one come when we go texas. It was like really small. I love waco in waco texas. I have no idea where we were. No one was. I think was in burbank. I think i'm mixing up the shows. It was ran. It was random point being that happened. And i remember being like holy shit like this is embarrassing especially going from thousand to two that also. There was one girls night in show. We were in chicago and the audience had twelve hundred people. It was sold out it. Was this auditorium it. I felt like britney spears. I was so i was like. Wow i'm like this is so fun the very next show the very next show. We're in this big jim type thing and the crowd. There was no seat so people just kinda came around the stage. The crowd was like a single line and they were so close so it was just a big gymnasium with a single. I think i think there were only fifty people in attendance and keep in mind. Half of them came with a parrot. Were very back morning. Kids twelve hundred to twenty. It was i that was the worst show ever. I definitely screamed at the girls afterwards. Because i was like i was pissed. I was pissed. People mr cues a bigger deal. If we ever do a girls night in tell all that will be in their the one time i got mad. They okay no no Shade but the girls didn't tell all would be i- cutting like truth or drink. Oh my good Another humbling experience for me. This cal brought up after he told me that nothing could get worse than no one showing up to meet and greet. Is that one time. I did attempt to do a mystery. Rebrand and i did indeed lisa. No no no no. I said i'm going to do a mystery rent. A leash came over. She gave me a full presentation on what i should do. I will say presentation was very helpful. I do feel like it really it. The rebrand happened in a way. When i wasn't trying necessarily i have to say i would have to say quick disclaimer. I feel like that really reflected poorly in my skills. And if i was ever ever open ever asked me to do it again i would be. I would give my full one hundred attention. And i would not be drunk so she comes over and gives a presentation very helpful and then i start to include. You know some of her little notes. That are very simple with. Don't do a normal intro. Like just get straight to the chase. Some nails need to change. Titles to change very small miniscule things that i took very much to heart then i filmed my first video with this whole idea of my rebrand right and i was like okay and i edited it myself. I thought it was really good. It was still very me but with small little tweaks like a little bit more punch in a little bit of a different new thumbnail new title etc then only ali and this was i. Think my humbling moment. I was so excited and so proud and both of them go. No we need to change this. And i went. Oh okay and i thought it was really good. You know from the jump. That's okay and they take my computer and they add they have their own music like disney parodies. They add like the show like warping and like me sound effects these sorts of things. But i'm like okay. Well they know what's cool like obviously like you know they watch a lot of youtube. They know what's what's popular. And i'm gonna trust them. I put the video up thinking. And i tweet. This remmy rebrand so many changes. Can we got to come with me on this journey going to be so much fun. Thank you for all the love and support and put the video out. Immediately people fucking. Hey it's they're like reni. What the heck is this. What is going on. We don't wanna see this. This is awful. What is going on time to save it. I believe i'd kept it up. And then i think in i wanna say like my blog. I'm hoping law grind may be my next video public my next week. I think i was like so. You guys didn't like that last video. I will not take responsibility only down. No i kept it up. But i put the the version i liked the version. Unlisted people loved it. Said amazing work. Ten outta ten loveless re rebrand but that was very humbling for me but to be actually honest throughout that after that like video i definitely went through a funk of like trying to figure out what exactly my rebrand is going to be. I don't even necessarily think. I had like a full one. Eighty rebrand but just speaking it into existence and like telling people that rebranding. I've realized makes people feel. Obviously people's opinions are welcome. And that's totally fine but it's like a different level of opinions where people like Really yeah yeah. Exactly which is hard. Because it's like okay. Well what do i listen to. And now that you've talked about all with the truth to drink with. That was the same week. I think where you announced you were getting a new like editor or whatever and i remember you being so frustrated that it was the same time because people instantly bring me back bringing back. And you're like no i promise and that is guy i was so sorry it was me the video is great and then i and then i was a little buzzed and i was like. Let me add some edits and it was so funny when we were together watching it. But you only know. It's funny when you know. We're drunk editing. And then finally people were like wait. You should actually do drunk editing video. Which i do think it would be funny. That would be funny. We just have set the precedent that we are added. Yes yes and then larry is. That was the week in which i said that was also leaving. Yes and remember you call nine. You're so side you guys. I don't think i like this. This isn't me. And i was like i i did. I promise i could do better. I think honestly like the. It's totally fine. But like that time lined up. Because i just say that you either drink with eli and a lot of people are still like we miss i. We miss he was the best. Which obviously like i love ally and as we said the truth or drink. He was great for like the time in which we were working together. But i like. I want to talk about this on here. I think it's interesting that i've learned this. And then like another humbling. Things like people. Don't people understand what you tell them and what they seen which. There's nothing wrong with that but people are watching my videos with. Eli before and thought like oh eli does all of this. This is all he does like this..

"Not one. Not one person come not. He's only a leash. At least i think they started like kids in the store who to be shopping. No well that was also funny so finally a few people. A few people trickle in k. And i'm so excited. I start talking to them and i don't stop talking and that's a big deal for me because i didn't want them to leave. I was like me look busy like make me look busy. So then some of the michael employees they are honestly they were great to work with it. Was i think i just i remember being told. Oh you don't have to promote it. I was like hell. Yeah i don't have to promote it. I wish i promoted point being then they come to me. I could tell they're frantic now. Hey do you mind like tweeting it out or putting on your story of course so they posted that people started trickling in a little bit but they were so like. Oh my god like you'd be here. The mom would always say oh my god. I thought they'd be so many people here listening. They're like no. We wanted to feel like an intimate thing. Wanna very secret but they started going to the store and kind of getting you know if they saw kids they would direct them to the room. Because it was free blah blah blah so. That was even more fun for me to be doing is with these kids and they're like who are you literally have like no filter and they be like who is this girl. I had literally no. And then halfway through the day i remember. I got a text. I want to say was from. I don't know if it was a group chat with both the you or whatever but someone essentially which is like i heard no one came to your meet and greet you know it's like i was so embarrassed. You guys found out. Oh my god. I just remember texting you use for five hours. Putting tools on a piece of paper came 'cause to me no one came because there was less than probably twelve people. Maybe if you count the parents literally no not a single person. Maybe doesn't have many people like maybe it's just you know the traffic the foot traffic in downtown still so i feel like that area isn't your go-to now.

"An invite but in my head i was like it's fine. Wool figure it out. Like you guys will get and it's like you're you guys are actually like talgan issue it. I'll get to win so we ended up going right on time because you know how no one actually comes on time to those things yup yup of course and i walk up to the door and there's really not that many people there at all yet but i walk up and mike. Hi alicia marie and go. Oh i don't see your name on the list. And i was like oh mcdonnell. Sometimes that happens to me all the time. People either have me as at least mcdonald at lisa. Marie oh it might be under leash marie or it might be under early. Should mcdonnell and then they're like sorry. Yeah your i don't see you on the list. And i'm standing there. I take it to my and then it hits me. I was like wait. Oh sorry then the girl asks. Did you get a little wristband in the mail. Because i guess those were like the invites. I didn't get it. But i took it to my grave. I was like. Oh oh wait. What did i say i forget i. I said i lied and said like oh yeah i just don't have it with me or i was like. Oh which. I don't see me doing that. I don't know. I just remember her being like. Oh do you have the wrist bands. I was like. Oh maybe i said not with me. I'm not sure. But i had no wristband. I was like fuck fuck but now it's more awkward to walk away. But no i chose to go in with this. Go in go in. So i sit there for so long and i'm clearly not leaving and i was like yeah like we should be on there with blink blink blink dot the poor girl finally is like okay. No one's here. They're just three girls. She lets us in and i'm sitting there. My anxiety is going through the roof. Because i'm like we're not supposed to be here. My god they don't want us here they know me now. They know that. Mac baby eleven is me and i am mac baby eleven and now they're never going to invite me to anything in the future again so we're sit so then we go and in this tell a lot of events are you go and you sit and it's like kinda boring because it's really. It's it's all about who you're with you know so. Mia sierra and i are sitting at this booth with like no one around and we're just setting there. I don't even think we like drink at this point. We're just sober. Sitting there like high and then then delete party. Yeah yeah and then mia. Ncaa both like. I feel weird. Being here i feel like we should go. And i was like yami too because i just made such a scene and then and then i feel more weird being like do we just leave and now like they won't know where we went kind of thing like what do we do. I have no idea and finally the girl kind of like comes. By and i was like. Hey we're just going to leave to make it easier or something. And then she goes. I'm sorry like your guys names on the list. I like alicia. Why did you make this such a big thing. Like it was so embarrassing and after that i was like holy shit so moving forward. I think that's always in the back of my head anytime anytime i go to a carpet. Go to an event. I go to a party and they always ask for my name and i'm like hi alicia marie like we don't see you and i'm like try mcdonnell under like oh murray. Icu icu. all. The i always think about instance or if they say no. Mcdonald's say okay. Thank you and then you leave and then i leave and i take the l and i leave i say okay. I'm not cool enough to be here. And then i my. I remember seeing my manager walking with all the cool girls. We were the cooler all the cool girls. It was like lauren. Elizabeth like megan rings. Claudius like all the cool girls girls. I was there like oh no. She didn't invite you though. That's so rude every manager. I just don't think that the people me but i my manager could pull strings. She was a little preoccupied though. I'm going have to say a very humbling. Experience as you said with carpets is. We've learned to okay. Here's the thing. We are nothing we are literally like. We should not be at carpet. Such a dream to go but like we have. We have no reason to be a carpet. Let's be honest between us here so when we get the incredible. Invite to go to these carpets. We know we yes. We absolutely freak out. We're so excited. We'd take like we all day to get ready. Get so excited glam to the nines. It's so much fun. But are publicist. Has us. Get their hours and hours and hours early to avoid this situation and i never understood why we got there so until this particular carpet for the mary poppins movie. I believe that came up more recently. There was a remake. I think it was a married. No i was alone. I was like you know going solo. I'm going to go do the carpet by myself. I'm a boss bitch. I'm gonna do it so i was like. Oh you know. I don't need to get their hours early like they always tell me to. I'll just like a little early. And then you know. Hollywood traffic came in and i was not early whatsoever and i was actually running a little bit late so i got to the carpet and i had spent all day getting ready. I was like oh my god independent woman on my own. You're doing this for yourself. Love this for you. I get on the carpet and literally like one photo was taken and then all of a sudden they turn and just started screaming and like nothing else. No photos like screaming at other people and i realize the whole cast of the movie. Was there so fucking carpet by myself. Literally posing aisling. I got one photo. And i look over and i'm like up now. I get walk off. And i leave all ready. Not one photo was uploaded to literally. I don't think i ever saw those photos. Here's nothing about carpets. So like creme said no one. You're not the cast member. You're not a celebrity. You should go earlier because that's when the photographers are warming up. They don't really have anything you know crazy you know going on. So they're like oh. Get your photo. Why not And your publicist hold up a a sign that says your name and usually we like your up whether you're in the cast whether you're an influencer or whatever the case is actress etc so if you go earlier it's better for people like us because you get more photos because all the photographers are bored because they have four hours until the actual cast rive however when you do go that early no one really cares about who you are. So if you're sitting there there. Was this one time. This happened to this wine photographer. I'm thinking akiva yes. There's this one photographer this happened to me. And i remember being prepped by publicist because he said hey this person's gonna this person's there. i see. Just be prepared house why what's going to happen. I was invited. I just been all day getting ready. I'm gonna you know ever..

"Hey guys what is up and welcome back to the best. The funniest the most entertaining podcasts. Pretty basic hey guys welcome back to pretty basic you have your co host here. Alicia marie and remi crews and today. You know well this. This episode was inspired because we went on a little staycationing trip this past weekend. It was super nice super relaxing We just we just went down to orange county and it was so nice and we even met a lot of you guys which it was kind of crazy. 'cause i didn't realize how much i'm not used to meeting people getting back into the swing of even just subscribers coming up and saying i let alone have to say even after covert. I feel like. I'm stuttering with my words. Let alone even with my best friends. Oh no i. I would say probably nine out of ten people that we met. I felt like. I made it all because i just didn't know what to say. It's not down really you didn't at all god. I was all getting very aware of like what i say. I hope they like. You know they're happy. I just over thinking everything and it's just funny. Because i remember the first time i saw you after the main part of I was like i literally. We both text each other being like. I'm so sorry. I like seemed like i didn't care to see you. I just don't know how to other humans glitch ing. We're like the weather the weather anyways. So this episode came into fruition because alicia we left after meeting a large group of subscribers and she goes oh my god so she learned the hard way to ask for a photo at. I completely resonate with that whole thing. Basically if you wanted the story yes so. I i was telling remmy and ali o. I will never ever in my life. Ask a viewer again. If they would like to take a photo with me and they were so confused instead of leashes please elaborate. What are you talking about. And i said guys one time. This girl came up and was really excited to see me And said oh my god are you lisa. Marie and i said yes i am. Oh my god how are you blah blah blah. You know what you do live around here trying to make conversation and it got to that pose of okay. They're not leaving. do they want a photo maybe. Maybe she's just nervous. You know i'll ask i'll ask. She went on. I say people trying to take one for the demos i say. Would you take a photo. And she says no. I'm good and after that was the most well not the most. That was one of the most humbling experiences i've ever had in my career and obviously ali are laughing hysterically because it is so awkward. If someone says no they don't want to vote and then i look like a narcissist bitch who's like oh my god do you wanna photo with me and also not the case and it was just. It was hilarious. Oh that whole conversation. Got us talking about you. Know just humbling experiences. We've had in this industry of influence or being on youtube or you know there's a lot there is a lot but it's it's funny because even like that girl handled it like she sounds very nonchalant like no. I'm good but your ego gets so bruce you're like not not like you're like you don't want a photo with me. It's like oh my god. That was embarrassing. She didn't want a photo. Why did i ask her. If it looks like it. Looks like i'm on my high horse thinking. Oh my god. Everyone just wants a photo on my on. Do you want a photo with me. A mike and that is what crushed my or my ego. My social anxiety when i needed escape and i probably ran. I probably ran away at get even though i'm sure she did that. Way on the flip side. Sometimes they come up and they're like actually shaking and they're so nervous to ask for a photo so in times like that. You're like oh like you know. This is a phrase it. Should we a photo and all right. Yeah you're like. Oh should we take a picture and then if they're usually really extending we ramp. How come you're telling me this great advice and we've been friends for years. It just came into my brain right now like weight. Should we take a photo. Ooh yeah exactly. That's the way you do it okay. So we thought today that we talk about more humbling experiences that we've had whilst being influencers. I did touch on one a few weeks ago. When i started into the murphy store and found out that they probably didn't have my well. No you found out that. They didn't oh they did. It was in the very bad credit. It was just literally the last on the list. Meaning probably now. It's gone but that was very humbling. I actually thought going off of that. I have one that just came to my mind that i completely forgot about. You're gonna die. I need you to tell me and sierra this. Because they were with me and they probably are going to be so. This was probably twenty fifteen k. I think i just signed with my very first manager. I thought i was the hot shit. I was so excited we were at. I'm mats. which if you don't know what that is. The international makeup trade show big convention before there were any other conventions really i match was the place where all of the beauty and lifestyle girls would go and hang around do meet ups meet up with fans go shopping because all the makeup was really discounted however act. Yeah the where i was going to say. I never went. But i'd always watch and i was like isn't it a normal like trade show from makeup artists and all these like youtube girls are just going and having meet ups. I think it only lasted three years. Maybe because they quickly band influencers because of the actual professional makeup artists were pissed. They couldn't get you know their makeup in peace while there were other kids like running to juicy storrow seven um so yeah i get it but it. I guess there was some drama there. Anyways i was that i was so excited. There's all these cool and elite invite only parties. That happen that whole week. Around that time out in pasadena and i remember hearing that everyone was going to this. I want to say it was a style hall party or it was. It was was a party that i it was a party and i remember thinking. Oh my god guys we need to go. This is going to make so much sense. Why i am now the way that i am after this whole episode. You're going to be like. Oh no wonder she's like always terrified of you know being a burden to people. So i'm with me and sierra and everyone's like are you going later tonight. Are you going later tonight to everyone. Who was there. There was like all of the cool cool girls. And i remember saying oh yeah like i'm invited because you know i just signed with a new manager who is going to be there who is taking a group of the girls to the party. So i was thinking a duh. I get invited. Because i'm with the management team. And i'm pretty sure sierra and mia didn't have.

"Is I own travel continues our first show for the new year, and it is a new year. Repeat after me a new Year. Can't be happy to say that we've been speaking to Zack died while the founder of Young China group Zach, I'm seeing some radical departures and traveler behavior and you talked about how people pivoted in China. And decided to make their dream destination, at least for the duration of the lockdown. Their actual homes we saw in America through no, you know, it's the law of unintended consequences. People ended up rediscovering America. You know they under that rediscovering their neighborhoods, their backyards. They're their own cities, their towns, their regions, You know, they started traveling his family's again. And we're seeing other pivots. We're seeing travelers realizing, as you said, in the last segment, you know they don't have to go to an office anymore. They don't have to commute anymore. They're working remotely. Their kids are learning remotely. We've gone from working from an office to working from home to working from anywhere. So what does that do to cities? What does that do to our approach to work in itself? And so I agree with you? I basically see what what we've realized Covert to be an increasingly mobile workforce to be basically pressure valves on these urban centers. Or if you will sort of like a new urban acupuncture. It's how I think of it. You know, you look at cities like San Francisco I'm from the Bay Area originally. And when I grew up, I lived about 30 minutes from San Francisco. And I live about two hours from San Francisco. You've seen the the concentration of talent of jobs of companies. Condensing over the last five or 10 years. One of the upsides is that people are realizing that their styles of work that can allow them to be far more free. Are less tethered to a physical space. You know, I'm here in Oaxaca right now, and we're able to. I'm running a business that's based in China. It Z. Not a perfect situation, of course, but it's possible and we're making it happen. We're starting to see Cos frankly, around the world realized that not only do they not have to be tethered to a place, but they could also access talent from anywhere and suddenly that talent is far more Frito interact with people from around the world. One of the more interesting sort of themes we've seen come out of China specifically in terms of travel. It's a little bit different than what we were seeing. Which is that younger travelers in particular, you know, we are young China group. Every beginning to go even deeper off off the beaten path. Airbnb is essentially a Chinese oriented company at this point, but what we've seen over the last few months is that people are starting to associate more stars with more safety. Safety and health and wellness, both in terms of the medical safety, But also I want to treat my body, right. Those those trends are being accelerated and China, which was not fully on the wellness train. Quite yet. You're starting to see it happen. There is an increasing awareness of Jim's and physical fitness. But wellness travel hadn't really emerged in people's minds is something that was worth pursuing and spending on. That's changed People's health. Their body is first and foremost in their minds at this point, which you know, I I personally think is a sort of welcome shift. And we're seeing some other lifestyle changes to how many people are no longer looking at a destination as a vacation option, But they're looking at it as a lifestyle choice. They're looking at it as an opportunity to physically move somewhere because they can now Yeah. You know, the digital nomad thing used to be sort of a way to make fun of millennials on the road. You know, I think there's a few of these digital nomad hubs around the world. But even though you don't have to be anywhere, everyone still sort of gravitated to Bali, right? We're starting to see that That's that more people are considering that it's no longer sort of an almond guard concept within the workforce. More people are realizing that that's possible. We're seeing it in China, which again I think it's particularly healthy when you have these super cities that have, you know the cost of living. The cost of housing has gone. And so out of touch with the average, which suddenly you know you hit a pressure valve. And a lot of that pent up frankly frustrated in that builds when you're when you're in a city that you just out of reach for most people. Suddenly, young people are realizing they could be everywhere and older people are realizing they could be everywhere too. Plus you have parents working from home or working remotely. You have kids learning remotely. There's no reason to go to an office right now. I have my arguments against that, by the way, But for most people, they could actually make the case that they don't need to go to the office. The kids are not going into physical schools right now. And so when you have those options, and that's nobody wants to be in a long commute downtown or spending a lot of money going out to restaurants every night for business dinners. Next thing you know You're looking at a real pivot in a lifestyle change toe, leaving the cities, leaving the higher expenses and moving to, you know, not the suburbs. But beyond the suburbs. They're moving, you know, to the mountains to the desert to the sea coasts, where the cost of living in many cases is less. Because they've taken all those other costs they don't have to do anymore, right? I mean, there's this joke in London that it's cheaper to live in a visa and commute to London, then actually rent the flat in London. And you do have these sort of distended working situations, and people were realizing that cost of living in these big cities have gotten out of black. So so, yeah, this to me feels like a pretty natural progression of that. I will say, though. Uh, that what I expect in the in the years to come when we have the choice is a blend. I don't think five days in the office long commute work days are going to be the norm again. I think we're gonna recognize that extended holidays make for happier and more productive employees. But I do think that one of the things I heard from the CEO of Microsoft, I got to take part in the Law Street Journal CEO Council Not so long ago and he pointed out one of the You know this is the guy who created teeth, so he's very invested in the mobile work movement. But he did say one of the downside was we burn social capital. No, there isn't the sort of informal conversation at the water cooler or the or the beer spigot or whatever you're working in. We burn social capital and we don't have the opportunities to earn it back. Necessarily. So I think a blended workforce is going to be what we're looking for going forward and in terms of travel and vacation, and I think we're gonna redefined. Vacation policies at Fortune 500 companies, at least where they're going to get rid of a vacation policy. In fact, they're going to say nobody gets a two week vacation name or nobody gets a three week vacation anymore, or a one week vacation anymore. It'll be as much vacation as you want as long as you finish your work because nobody's punching a clock to begin with. Where Americans were, frankly kind of behind.

"Work from home. Oh, yeah, That was real fun. It started out great. Yeah, it was fantastic. One of the first shows I've ever did. During the pandemic. I think the first time when I was home The line dropped and my Internet went out. 30 minutes before the show, So I had to then drive into the studio, and it took me about an hour to get in and take you and Jeremy had to co host the first hour of my show, and I ended up calling in when I'm driving through a tunnel and we're having a whole conversation. They were basically guiding me through the city. Yeah, that was fun. Good times, good times. Great, great technological problems that we ended up having. I don't think that was on the station, though. That was on me because my Internet went out in the house, which Just so happened right before the first show from home 30 minutes before everything's looking good Internet failure and couldn't get the Internet back up and running, And I don't really know my next door neighbors all that much because I was going to my parents house there in the beginning stages the pandemic cause I got out of my New York City apartment before going back to New York. And we've had different neighbors throughout the years, and I went over to the neighbor's house at first, trying to use their Internet like barely knew who they were. And their Internet wasn't working. So it was a disaster. I wasn't like Tiki Barber with my Internet goes down. I got lucky, Yeah, as the next door neighbor, and then there you go just a little bit different. My regular neighbors compared to Snooki, and then we see Tiki broadcasting from Stuckey's house and somehow Take these Internet wasn't working. But Snooki's was in my case. When my Internet went down, the entire block was screwed. So I called up David and I said it better have Tiki in that bread, then do the next hour. And away, I went and I drove very quickly into New York City, And then we had a guest actually read the top of the hour to remember who the guest was that day. Donovan McNabb. That's correct. Look at your memory. Nik Theodore. Really, It's really hard to forget those. Well, you're bringing up history that let's be real people listening right now. They don't care. They don't care about Nick Theodoros, first time producing Jack Gelb show. When the pandemic started in, Zach was broadcast to get home. Unless if you're a radio nerve, which are some people out there, I just don't think it's that compelling of a conversation. I guess. You know, you're just talking about the start of the pandemic, and I was like, you know, it triggered a memory in your brain. Solomon Wilcots gonna join us coming up in a few moments. All right. Without further ado, we're gonna put Nick a lot of pressure on Nick. We're going to see if Nick is gonna shine. I've confidence. And Nick Theodore. We're gonna get to a little onside offside right now. I got five questions in the world to sports or Nick is five questions for me. I'm going to see what side of the fence I lie on before we get to Solomon. Let's go..
