What MSNBC Says About the Future of Joy Reid's Show

"Now I want to also correct something we said last week and last week I said that joy Reid, who show on Emerson behe, I watched that you don't have to her show is not going to be renewed by MSNBC hall. Well, Emma's in Bihar put out a statement and said the reports that say she no longer is going to be having a show. Or wrong. One of those reports was in red state. In my opinion, normally is a reliable source conservative source, but still reliable. They published a story claiming that MSNBC hall was not going to renew joy, Reed's show. Now says, in fact, they are, so I don't know whether they initially said no, they weren't going to renew it. And then the fit hit the Shan, her fans, contacted them and they changed their mind, or whether or not the story was wrong in the first place. I don't know. All I know is that, according to MSNBC, she does, in fact, still have a show. Triple

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler Describes the 'Little Guys' at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)

"All right, what was it like to be back at a convention center with actually people again? I felt like things were normal again. Now people are of course running around terrified wearing masks, but it was nice to be back in the what I would perceive as the real world, but it's interesting because if you remember before the CES show started, the big companies, Google, for example, they pulled out. Well, it's interesting that the big companies were pulling out of CES. Well, the smaller startup companies did not want to. And there's a good reason for that. It's because those small businesses that the entrepreneurs, they actually pose a big threat to Google Amazon and the others. So additionally, those small startups, that is sometimes 50 to 60% of their yearly revenue that they're getting from contacts they make at CES. It's really a largely a business development show. So you can see CES as a microcosm for just the economy with COVID, where the big players, the amazons, googles, you name it. They are in favor of the perpetual lockdowns. And. The keeping the pandemic stretched out as long as possible because it's stifling competition. Whereas these little guys, just like little businesses, need to go back to business as normal so they can grow their business. They can expand their market share, et cetera. So I took it as a microcosm for the entire for the entire

How Do the Policies of the Biden Regime Play Into Human Trafficking?

"Does the open border policies of this administration? How does that play into sex trafficking? And then can you define really kind of a scenario of what sex trafficking looks like for a 1415 or 16 year old? And who's really behind this? Yeah, first the border, there's actual footage of our teams being there using night vision, the first point of contact watching men bring children in because of our administration says if you're an adult, you bring a child into this country, you're accepted. But we were proving we improving clearly that their trafficking young children in and it's horrible the way it happens. Case scenario might be they kill a mother who has a child who's on the migrant trial, but they just kill her and take the child and this is again most of this is cartel, sex trafficking. But here in the U.S., one of the best horrific statements I've ever heard was by a pimp who said, we appreciate the dads and the stepfathers doing the prep workforce before we get the kids. And the whole landscape is changing. What does it mean by that? Sorry to interrupt. What does that mean? That young girls were being abused by their dads, stepfathers. And then it breaks their mind. There's an element of trauma which makes their job so much easier. And listen, I want to tell people from a very personal standpoint, one my father was a drug dealer in a pimp. And the second I was abused as a kid sexually and left for dead on a commercial cooler. So I speak with a lot of personal passion about this. That's why it's so important that people really understand there's an evil behind this at every level. And yeah, I think definitely people in the government and positions of authority and media want to cover and stop any type of open exposure because look at what happened with CNN. And again, it's on both sides of the Yao 'cause perversion no doubt doesn't have you look at plenty of Republicans like Denny has certain we could go through the list. It's a bipartisan sickness

"I'm excited to talk to my next guest. His name is Josh, avatar, and were there a few things that we want to talk about. But I want to make sure we talk about something that's going on, grove city college, where I have spoken is struggling as many of even the best colleges are with going woke. Bad news, but the good news is, there are folks like Josh, who are kind of on the case. Josh, welcome to the program. Thank you, Eric. It's good to be here. I want to talk to you about a number of things. But let's start with this. You've written an article very recently at American reformer dot org talking about this. So for folks don't know anything about it, give us a summation if you would. Absolutely. I became aware of this situation that's going on a growth city after after I was contacted by some parents actually who were involved in a petition and essentially what happened is they raised a number of claims in their petition to the president of the university. They got 500 signatories from a variety of parents, students and alumni. And their claims basically boiled down to the following. They say that the chapel programming a growth city has become woke. There are speakers that are pushing CRT in the chapel. They said that CRT ideas have influenced the residential adviser training. They've said that, even in the classroom, there have been courses taught that platform and don't accept alternative viewpoints, but push CRT predominantly in the classroom and are actually looking to build activists rather than having intellectual conversations about the substance of these issues. And then finally they raised a number of concerns about relating to some LGBT issues. And as you know, this is a conservative Christian college that sort of markets itself as having certain standard of behavior. And these are hot button issues, but in some ways, the parents have concerned about whether the college is actually adhering to the behavioral expectations that it sets out for its students and its faculty members and how it markets itself to its

Dr. Peter McCullough Describes the 'Clean the Nose' Protocol for COVID

"Just, I want to focus on one thing you mentioned because you said it quickly and we have some new listeners and we have some listeners that are just beginning to get exposed to this doctor because you've been in this sense the very beginning and some of this we kind of get so used to saying we act as if everyone's heard it. Just be very specific about the cleaning of the nose protocol because that is new for some people to hear. Okay, we clean the nose with what's called viral treatment. Now, that's papa Don iodine. Also known as bed at 9. It comes in a bottle. It's a brown iodine solution. It always comes in a 10% solution, which is standard. So look for better dynasty brand name of it. Povidone iodine. And then you take a half a teaspoon of that, mix it in a shot glass of water, 1.5 ounces. And then take a bulb syringe or a spray bottle and spray it way up in the nose and you gotta snip it back and choke on it a little bit and then spit it out. That's actually washes the back of the nose. That kills the virus on contact. You'll actually see the fever go down. It really cleans out the sinuses. And it works for other colds and sinus infections. I tell you, I'm not going to ever suffer with the cold again. Now that I've learned this, you know, sinus doctors have been doing this for years. Once I started talking to Dennis and sinus doctors, I think, yeah, we've been doing this forever. I go, what? They said, yeah, and now it turns out the studies are clear. There's a meta analysis by Chopra, randomized trial by chowder at this. It's clear it works. It's unequivocal that it works. And the bottom line is we can kill the virus edit source. We know what the Alma cron variant is multiplying 70 times faster than delta. We're talking a massive explosion in the nose. That's where the fever is coming from, even if there's not much nasal congestion, hit it up in the nose, it really

What Happened When Morgan Zegers, Founder of Young Americans Against Socialism, Met Her Communist College Roommate?

"I had never heard the words bigot or xenophobe or misogynist before until my first day of college where we had diversity and equity training. Have you guys heard of that? And that was I think 5 years ago at this point. It was years and years ago, and it was just coming on the scene, and look how fast everything's changed in America, where now people are saying that they can just make up any gender or any pronoun that they want. But that's where I first learned these words of diversity training and everything that the left is now using to divide us with their cultural Marxism tactics. And of course, one of the worst stories was when they advocated for a segregated cafe on my campus. Now I tell you all this so that you understand college is a weird experience for most average Americans these days. But what really set me off and what started my journey into what I do now, I run the nonprofit young Americans against socialism. It was the moment I walked into a house off campus that I was moving into my last year. It turns out my roommate had a poster that just kept catching my attention as I'm trying to talk with her trying to get introduced to her. I'm trying to respect her with eye contact, but I keep looking to the oversight of the wall and I'm wondering, why is this drawing my attention and then I realized? It's because I recognize the men on a poster on her wall. It was Mao Zedong, Lennon, Stalin, Karl Marx and Fidel Castro, the poster said, welcome to the party. And these mass murderers and dictators that were on my roommate's wall had these party hats on, and they had these fruity little cocktail umbrella drinks. And I looked at her and I had no idea what to say. No idea what to say. And so I just looked at her and I said, what's that? What is that? And she looked at me with the biggest smile on her face, and she said, oh, I'm a communist. And from then on, you guys, you would think that little mess upstate New York daughter of a colonel served on operation Iraqi freedom served at 9 11. You'd think I would know what to say when I met a communist, right? I'm a big history nerd thanks to my parents, but no. I had absolutely no idea what to say to a communist with mass murderers and dictators on her wall that was giving me the same talking points that we hear all the time throughout the 20th century and from the leftists of America today that her version of communism if done right this time because it's never been done right before, would bring equity for all it would end poverty. It would support the working class and bring dignity to them, all the usual talking points. I had no idea what to say to somebody who was able to push that kind of rhetoric onto me. And it was such a disappointing

"They just painted and put up like as to go up. And then i read later. They weren't snow sleds they were. They were plastic. Heat molded copies of the hoods of camaros. Okay close enough anyway But all of a sudden is people are getting out to to to safety He he leaves. He does the captain thing. He apologizes to warf finally comes to a census but then when he hears this friend in need data he sacrifices himself to go to rescue data. Yeah now we can say what we want about. Whether or not he knew what he was getting into or didn't know what he was getting into. He still goes to sacrifice himself for data. He is picard. he's not something else other than who he is. Now i think cards a pretty great man as it is. Zack from cochran would go on to be a pretty great man just by being himself picard would be a great man by being himself but man. I think there's a third person that they showed this to us. In and that person is data. I think they showed this exact same thing to us with data. Here's data his whole life trying to be more human trying to be more like a man. All of a sudden he gets skin grafted on and it feels good right and he has these emotions that are acting and and data was tempted for sure. We know that he didn't choose to do that. He eventually stayed in eight seconds. There it is. That's right that's right like for an that's an eternity but data's humanity was what we see here. Data doesn't have to be a human data needs to be data in fact it's because data is data as an org or as a non-organic being that gives them the ability to save his friends and his ship and as captain and defeat the threat and eventually save the future. Let's face it. If data didn't do what he did earth would have been assimilated and the future would have been gone data by being data not by being a human. He wasn't a great man or even a man he was himself. And i we see this theme that's examined through these three particular people and if you really press it you probably could see the same theme in in lily and maybe even in reicher maybe even jordy and in those guys though maybe not so much by stretching it. When you get to those guys yeah. But in i think when you look at cochran and picard and data they all three go on this journey of. Don't be a great man. Just be a man. Don't try to be great. That's actually i think what that don't try to be great. Just be you just do you boo. I like that.

"Awesome for sure Oh i i should mentioned this before when we were talking about what was going on down on earth. I absolutely love. The final shot of the film wins. Zephyr cochran is in the bar. And he's talking to the vulcans and he's kind of doing the weird thing with the jukebox and all that kind of stuff in the cruise getting ready to fly away the final shot of the film that we have. Is this big crane. That's like lifting from the bar and kind of over and we see the the enterprise flyway off in the distance and there you see. There's the parking lot of the bar. The vulcan ship is parked in the parking lot of the down. The road is just just come park like the ship was in the parking lot. it was. i don't know why. I never noticed that before. But matt i if you don't mind let's bring this home and let's talk about the star trek message of this movie because i've found it very compelling i'll give you shop i. You're the first time watcher. Did you pull any major big star trek message out of this movie. Like i watched it four times because like i was really into what i was trying to get out of this i. I can't say. I have formulated any specific star trek message from this. No okay so if you try if you'll allow me to diatribe go and please interject at any point if this and tell me if i'm just crazy here or maybe even helped me form the words. This is still admittedly. This is still baking for me. Okay but it really hinges. On the words that zephyr mkaku himself told that reicher and jordi would tell back to from cochran like throws words back in his face. Those words were. Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man right They that sounds weird to me. But then when i think you you take a look at what's going on here and you look at three different people and i think this message of what does it mean to not be a great man. Just be a man. We see this three different people. The first one is obviously zephirin. Cochran himself right like he doesn't have to be and this is what he learns by the end. You don't have to be who people think you're going to be. Just be yourself and what we wind up. Seeing with him at the end is that he can become who people think he is. But that's not even the point like zephyr. Cochran is struggling with the idea throughout the movie that he is going to be this big famous guy. You know what. I mean he. He's struggling with imposter syndrome. He is he absolutely is and he's like look. I just did this for money. I'm not you guys are telling me..

"To after all the stuff is burned away right and he goes down and i. I think it's the board green her corpse. Yeah and he like picks up her head and mike snaps the spinal column. Yeah and like he got wrench like that. That's what he needed right. He's like no you're done. Snap your stay alive for sure. Yeah i mean but you take that and you juxtapose that against the interaction that picard had with lily remember where she was holding him at phaser point set to maximum. She would've vaporized him. She pushed the button And he he takes her to a spot and he does what he needs to do to calm down and gain her trust but in the process she was gaining his trust which allows for this almost a role reversal later on in the film. When we get to this conversation right which which sends him off. I i love watching the juxtaposition somewhat and talk about more about picard here in just a moment but before i do that we gotta get to the big climactic scene where data wakes up or or. He shows that he's never really been under the control. He undoes all the critical codes and ukwa they because they go to fire on the phoenix which just awesome with the worker sells it comes out and everything. They go to fire the phoenix that oh they missed. Data could mess no of course not because oh by the way. I'm sorry another reference that i missed. He's fully functional in every way and when was the last time that he used his function and he mentioned how long it had been That goes all the way back to win. He and tasha yar. I kind of figured it was that one. He's he's done it before. Yeah it was that one. But yeah i think part of me is like wait. Detaille really need to throw it in here. Like it's it's just all it was was a reference. It's a head nod. You know like a yeah. We could do that..

"Time travel Where they were always there. They just didn't know it yet because it was still in their future So they didn't have any memory of it yet right but now going forward. They're always gonna remember that. Yeah we actually played handed that but you see. That's the weird part too is i. I was a little bit surprised that they all use their real names while they were down there and that somehow their names have never been mentioned in history books. I the. I think there's a piece where this the only thing i can come back to that with as they told from cochran everything yep so he would be smart enough at some point when he puts the bottle down to be like. It was just me by myself. Nobody else went with me. Yeah or to give them different names or to make something up like i. I would think that that that would be the way he would do. Because there's apparently not picture. When they were doing the first contact with the vulcans. The crew was way off to the side not even close to the proceedings which is where they should have been. They should have been in the middle of that unless they were supposed to be. In the middle of that which okay cool. Hey by the way. The name of the vulcan that met from cochran. I was waiting for a name. Yeah so we don't we actually don't find out until until like another episode of star trek in a different spot But that guy's name was socar okay. Who was the grandfather of a guy named sarik e which makes him. Smogs great-grandfather down. That was the only name. I could come up with with sarah and a hike like i don't know where if that works out time wise but i'm hoping that they like he walks. Towns like sarajevo can or something like that like right but now they didn't give me that so yeah okay so anyway. But that's that's what they had their. So yeah they had to help repair the ship. The phoenix as it were by the way the phoenix was an actual titan to nuclear missile and hollowed out. Never had a nuclear payload on it so irradiation to worry about and they actually filmed that inside a real missile silo. Attention from the government and everything so all right That wasn't just obviously there. Were lots of sets built for this movie but that was not one of them. So what about that whole thing meeting the vulcans what unites realize. We're not alone in the universe. And that's what unites humanity and zephyr from cochran is not a good guy or not at least not the guy that history paints them to be. Maybe has the potential to be. But it's not who he really is and they got to coerce them into doing it. Well like you said like i feel. I've kind of seen this story before is not entirely the same. But yeah like it's all about how you frame it and what perspective you're coming at it from like. His actions ultimately did lead to those things. Now it was it was. His plan is flight. He was the pilot. It was his ship so without him. Yes these things probably would not have happened regardless of what kind of person he is.

"I don't think that's like i think the function of this happened. Through the borg technology but it happened higher than what the board queen even realized was going on. Does that make sense. And is that what you were getting at or did i just completely resale what you were already trying to say in the first place. No i mean that that definitely answers what you think it is for. Sure i think what are you. Yeah it was. I mean. I was going along lines of yeah. It might actually be a long line of data k. Has some kind of espn app of each type of thing going on to me. That's what like she was hinting at like that. That's what the writers had to fit in somewhere to say. Hey data has more supernatural abilities than we know about mchugh who knows who knows but i like ultimately i think the and this is why i kind of asked for your opinion on it because in universe. I don't think it's ever going to matter. Because i don't know how much more will see data at least like we don't have another to my knowledge. We don't have another series with data and so like maybe one more movie or something if that happens like we might see data again and you know they'll probably not even touch on that point so like that's what i'm saying. I if we had to take this back into a series now after this really like. I think those are questions that they might have to answer. But because. I don't think we're going to see much data. I don't think there is necessarily going to be a full in universe answer to it. And that's why one year opinion so i i don't know about you but for me. I think everything else that i wanna talk about either wraps around specifically what happened with the plot the plot or the what happened on earth. What happened on the ship. Just general overall Or it relates to the star trek. Message that i really want to get to..

I mean because once again it just that sci-fi book right especially at the end when it gets dissolved off. And then you get like it's just the signed more. Yeah yeah which. I really hope. They stop by starvation. That gets fixed pretty quick. Because i don't wanna look at that. Yeah honestly i'm just glad data still there and i mean that's the way they were setting it up time it's like yes this stuff birds off organic matter everything else. We find so okay. Data's not organic except the park. Say he just added to them which basically does what star trek needs to do and puts everything back to normal at the end of the episode. Right i do wanna get your quick take on this like i think i'm over thinking this a little bit. Okay but still speaking book data..

It doesn't matter like you know but it was still funny. Funny them big. Tough warf yes Thirty nine point one degrees celsius very exact isn't it. It's a very exact temperature and maybe there is something to this. But it's not what i thought it was gonna be now. You'll have to excuse me especially if you are an international lesser. I'm an american who does not convert celsius and fahrenheit at all. I do not do these things. I honestly have no idea what thirty nine point one degrees celsius translates to. Do you want to know. I looked it up so i have a general idea but i was certainly hoping for forty seven degrees celsius. That would have been phenomenal very. Yeah exactly and that's where. I thought it was going. I thought it just can be nice in joke with a little science. Twist to it. That would have been perfect cool but no it. Apparently divorce wake and a little bit warmer I mean so for for anybody out there who's wondering The the temperature of thirty nine point one is just over a hundred degrees. It's about one hundred and two. Yeah and so like that number meant nothing to me hot hot. That's that's not. Hey would you guys check out. The environmental roses is kind of warming here narrow. That's hot. yeah and that's the thing is like everybody should have been dripping sweat and at one point they said like yeah raise like ten degrees and i'm like okay. Well okay okay. Maybe it was ten degrees celsius. It raised in degrees celsius. That's a lot because thirty degrees celsius is lake but my point being they they only said that was the only indication i ever heard until we got to the final temperature of thirty nine point one. Yeah yeah it's hot..

"Really. Yeah oh. I don't know i don't know i i mean i was more interested in when they beamed down and got Other clothing twenty-first-century civilian clothing. Now i it's so much better to me the idea that you can just beam down as you being down. The transporter gives you new clothes Or like you go into a holiday and it just gives you new clothes know rather than having to like. Walk through the hallway on your way there with whatever costume. You're wearing for everybody to stare at you doing it. You know Yeah uniform uniform. But i wasn't necessarily a huge fan of. They are kind of drab so a reason for that is keep in mind. The movies are now being shot. Digitally there or there or the film in the lenses are really coming along much more so than just two years earlier when they were shooting next generation Generations which by the way they shot all of that on their existing cameras and stuff things have upgraded at this point being cinema feature film. Those old costumes. Don't hold up as well on big screen. Tv or on big screen like movie theaters right. Yeah they just. They don't so they ended the lighting. They went for a much darker color palette and stuff in and they had to bring those things so so they really needed to basically have a new uniform. That went with everything else that they were doing. So they redesigned the uniform for the enterprise. Now i will tell you personally if i'm gonna cause play star trek this uniform. I'm choosing. I love the colored turtleneck and then just everybody has the same jacket. Yeah you know like like this looks more like i could do this as a uniform. The the the unit hard to have. No i'm not caused playing the original series. That's not my series is not my series. I do like the the deep space nine slash voyager uniforms. I think those are pretty tight but again it's very unity. I'm not. I'm not down for that one So yeah this. This is the one that i personally actually. I don't know. I really like some of the discovery uniforms that they have Some interesting in terms of half. So oh i don't know could do those. Those are those are more jumpsuit. Ish than anything though so anyway so. That's the norm so not a fan of the uniforms okay. Fair enough fair enough. I really wonder. And i don't remember. I don't remember when i went to see this movie. I remember watching this movie. No i did not watch this movie when it first came out. I remember what. I saw the final movie when it first came out. I really wonder when people went to go see this film in theaters and they saw the new uniforms what they thought. I don't remember. Hey people out there if you remember your first reaction to these uniforms email. Nba pod djamil dot com. Let us know. Because i'm really interested like that's a part of this. "They want us to do a new movie and they started talking about. Of course brandon. Ron had already been talking about what the next movie would be. You know and how they did rick berman. It said. I really want to do a time. Travel movie for this next one. Because it's the thirtieth anniversary. They wanted out for that. And in enriched berman's opinion the time travel episodes. Were the best stories that they had it was. They're the they're the ones that played for the best cinema. The you could possibly have so. He's already been thinking about. But ron and brandon were like how about the board. Let's do the board. And then i don't know who it was but somebody like literally standing outside of the building talking about it and the like both both is good. Let's do both and push them together. Like it was from that early on. It was time travel episode. Okay which was. I just think genius now the question is what are they gonna do and they bandied about a few different time periods. They thought about the roman empire they thought about the american civil war but they're leading idea and the one that they'd really developed pretty extensively was the renaissance era. And they call it. They were gonna call the movie star. Trek renaissance and this story would have involved the crew bouncing around renaissance italy. Hearing all these rumors about these very weird soldiers that eventually they would realize where the board which were holed up a castle and data would have to dress up like an artist apprentice and try to infiltrate him and he was going to become friends with leonardo da vinci and they were gonna be sword fights and fazer fights and all of a sudden you see how absolutely ridiculous this movie was gonna be to me. That sounds like a t. os movie. Yeah it it. It's just getting out of hand. Plus do you know how expensive it is to do renaissance movies and do them right. It's pretty expensive to get the costumes and the sets and all that kind of stuff..

This is what you could become potential. Yep Yep well act five. Hey just before the commercial break. The new the head. Doc had been relieved in new docket injected. But only after they've interrogated him roster makes a plea on behalf of Reicher laying it out for Durkan. If you let this interrogation go through. He's going to die. "This. It's it's going to be the end of any peaceful transition here. Yeah I mean I I don't I don't want to rehash everything that we just had. I I don't know if we had our conversation. Just a little too early in this episode. But I mean this this. This shows us exactly what we were just talking about a what. What happens when you let fear control and you get into all this? What if what if Boogeyman boogeyman take everything to the nth degree which is just it's dumb it's dumb because that's not actually what happens in whenever people look at something to go? Oh well you can't do this little thing because then all of a sudden it means this big mountain of stuff that'd be really really bad you know like no. It doesn't actually mean that Sounds bring it back and look at reality. But that's the kind of stuff that keeps US society from being able to move forward and and from experiencing what could possibly lay beyond and for moving forward and and that's where we're GONNA Z. As we come through the The episode here over in the Hospital. Krolo orders had Dr to bring Reicher out of his coma even if it means killing him. The good doctor refuses based on the grounds of the hippocratic oath which apparently is more universal than we ever thought. Bottom line. You Ain't GonNa do it. No problem says you'll find somebody who can replace him also universal there. You go back in the chancellor's Office Bacar whole realize. He used the word universal. I did as in multiple. That's that's sort of getting at here. It's like breaking down words once again and has like universal meaning. It's the same everywhere within this universe. Because that's like the biggest thing we know right so yeah for for for for me to right now. Just say anything. Universal is kind of weird. Or if it'd be more true actually I that we start saying multi versatile dad. No it's not. I will not help that. Catch back in the chancellor's office card beams in the chancellor isn't too happy to see him. He knows that they've been spying on them. All of their reports led them to believe that this world would react negatively to their arrival. Which is why they had hopes to to find reicher. First CARD ADMITS. That was a mistake. It's it's fantastic to see this play out like said not not just that we get to see it but that they're really taking this from the aliens point of view and how they they might react and how they are reacting. I guess you could say and we get some more of that. Inner Dialogue when the crew of star fleet. You know the Klu crew of the enterprise isn't there we begin those discussions as well and I think that that's a huge huge part of of this episode. Is we can get those behind. The scenes talks right The the idea where he says you know history is full of Conquers who came Saying the words We come in peace right. That's one of those things that when we even look at our own history. Yup I don't even have to talk about us right now today on this planet. I'm talking about our own history in this country throughout the history of this planet. That is true. You know our our own history is replete with people who've come saying you know I come in peace and fact Matt. There is a documentary that is super popular right. Now on this thing called net flakes if anybody in the futures what that is it's a video streaming service where the whole crux of the documentary. Is this guy. Winds up partnering up with this other guy who comes as a friend and then winds up taking everything that the state hasn't sending them up the pokey So it it's interesting thing that they talk about lots of people coming peace and and like I don't know about you but I think dirk in his right to be a little leery of this. I I understand that but I also wonder how many people that same day Cohen piece did have that in mind when they came then someone from the place. The planet civilization the country. Whatever that they're they're interacting with they have a cruella among them. Right is going to say. Hey this is not what we want. We don't want to work with them. Their own can be bad things for us so I'm going to incite a riot. I'm going to start a war Even though I'm going to sacrifice myself yeah and that that could be things off whereas if as just a card and the Durkin if it was just those two who were making decisions th they they would totally go forward right totally worked together. They were totally moving into the future. And so that makes me wonder you know in all these other historical times we're talking about. Could we have similar? Could there have been similar situations where the leaders of the people were just fine but someone in the background steps up and says no we're GONNA take make a sharp left here and change the course of history literally right? I think that there is something to be had here. And I think it's the failing that we ultimately see on the part of Durkan especially but the Mall Koreans as as a society as a whole and I think where where so much of the messages of Starfleet of Star Trek from episode episode are. Hey do it this way? I think the message of this episode is ultimately when we get to the end. Hey don't do it this way. Don't be like this. You see yourself here. Don't do what they do. I think that might be the Messenger because while Durkan is true history is replete with conquers. Who came who came. Saying we're we're a piece. I think you're right. There are people definitely who are like. Yeah but we're going to we're GONNA pull left on over here and actually you know come up with some shenanigans of what's going on but there are also others who the people who came looks straighten your face and said. Yeah we come in peace. But we're going to take over everything that you have here. And that's why people are wary of that exactly but I think but the problem is. Here's the thing if we didn't know let me back up if we didn't know Picard Indiana and Reicher. Because the viewer we know them and while we're watching this through the eyes of the of the ailing cultural we're sitting here saying no you trust these guys. These are good guys. We know them. You can trust them but Durkan doesn't have. Our viewpoint is certainly has his shirt right. Although but the the question is why. Why does he doubt that? What history is he drawing from? He's not drawing from Earth history. He doesn't know Earth exists sure so but whatever their history yes and. That's what I'm saying. Had they've had those bad apples in their societies e in whatever confrontations they'd had before there have been those bad apples. You can't tell me that the first people that ever White me was the first people either. Maybe they started off on the wrong foot but I'd say the first interaction between two cultures that ever came on that planet one of them turned on on each other and so from that point on. It's like well when someone says we come in peace. We can't trust them. Like I have to imagine you know the first. Few interactions were good. Wherever is getting along and then know someone comes up with the ideas like no. I can do better I. Can you know take over everybody? Everybody's too nice here. We're GONNA do things my way. And so yeah they. That's when they pulled the first. You know we come in peace and then destroyer but And and I think the the problem is so so look at it from the standpoint. Okay from what you and I know right laid in front of Durkan and the the world of mouth or three if they would have said yes if they would have embraced the federation and been able to join the federation like you and I sit here and see what could have been and and this episode in. The end to me is heartbreaking. They say no to that out of fear you know and we'll get there like like Durkan contracts to come up with a plan to get them there. It's not shutting the book totally on it but still they say out of fear and it's it's based out of old ideas of Oh. We can't do this because we're scared. And and that kind of circle back around what you're saying matinee in correct me if I'm wrong on it but I think I think the the big idea here is listen when somebody comes and says hey we come in peace. You should be leery of that. You should have your guard up. You should have your antennas up but you shouldn't let it stop you from pursuing the possibility of that piece you know and I think that's where we're Kirkwood come into this camp and I don't often referenced him in these in these shows but I think back to like What is it the Corre might maneuver When hey here's this guy who says he's going to kill us says he's GonNa kill says he's going to kill us and now his ships disabled in is about to blow up. We have a chance to go over there and save him or we could just let him blow up because he's been trying to let us but he's been trying to blow us up Right and You know Kirk sits back and says no we actually yes. There's there's a possibility of things going wrong here. Bad things could happen if we go back and try to help this Guy But who knows. Maybe this guy could be a new friend. It's worth the risk. It's it be be leery. Be Cautious it's worth the risk though and don't let fear hold you back from what you could potentially have do your due diligence. There's there is come up with that phrase due diligence right but I feel like been using this phrase an awful lot lately tank. The cropped take precautions. But don't overreact there you go. That's great yeah and I don't and I don't think anybody would expect these guys to just be like. Oh you're aliens you're here. You're here to help us. Do everything will come on. Let's show you have a C- let's let's go hang out. What are we going to do here? Just just waltz on. That's that's obviously not what we wanted to take precautions. Do your research you know. Find out what you need to know about these people but like you said I feel by the end of this. They're almost taking a step back from where they were As you said a one hundred they were they absolutely. They're in fear. Yeah and they let that get the best of them. Yeah and that's and that's the thing when you operate from a place of fear that's when you you literally move backwards and you don't you don't get to go forward as a society and yes once again. Matt I think we if we hold this up to our world today and let's fast forward to a year from now or five years from now when people are coming back listening to this podcast. Whatever it is. If you're operating in fear look around your world you probably see that it slows down your society. You have from a place of optimism but be smart about it. Now be wise about it. But it's it's worth the risk. It's worth the risk. Hey when we get back to this episode here what do you say Ooh? Oh it's the down in the hospital. Rikers trying to escape from his room as a female nurse walks in just as he's trying to put a table through a window she says she'll help him under one condition and one condition only. She wants to make love to an alien. It's the only way out of there. She wants to be the first Korean to experience the full Reicher. I love when he he gets caught at has is like a big metal bench over his head he he tries to be like Joe Cool. It's like Oh yeah. We're just going to set this down on the side. There's no Reicher I'm sorry you. You're super awkward hours. Absolutely the most awkward thing I've ever seen you do but I okay. I understand that you weren't getting out of that. One you got caught.

"Well I in the wearing of all time I I. I'm hoping for you. Know what goes around comes around more things change. Stay the same type of scenario where we'll circle back to that nineties rack like I'll be okay with that with you. I'm so with you on that. What do you think about this idea? That Miranda is asking them. Don't tell the chancellor about this. Let me handle this. Don't go do that. And of course we know how it plays out in the episode later. And we'll get to that but in this moment. What are you thinking about her? Actually asking that question. Is that a good question. An appropriate question. Really for her to ask. It's a very bold request for someone who's just met people like she has a lot to take in. It's kind of surprising that she has on her mind. Even like not I I would think most people myself included probably would just be trying to process what's going on for yourself and what it means for you much less. How anybody else is going to react to it right and so I need her to have a talk with Guinan before she goes to the step. Yes yes so that. That's I mean obviously there for plot reasons but it's it's something that if I were card. I really don't know how to handle that right but it's probably a good thing. I'm not picard. Like I think he handled it in a very picard way. Sure because he has he goes on to like tell the chancellor like will abide by your wishes. Essentially whatever you decide. That's what we'll do right like. We'RE NOT GONNA interfere so like with picard coming into it with that mentality so I can see why he would accept that request but yeah obviously looking back. I add maybe not not the best idea but still. I don't know that anything would have played out much differently. Yeah and and quite honestly this is one of those first clues where on my subsequent watchings of this episode and my understanding of the Prime Directive. And what it takes for them to introduce into introduce a society into the intergalactic community as it were You sit there and gotta go. Maybe they're not ready like like if part of the idea of earth was before we hit warp drive. If you remember the story goes is that the earth had finally set aside all of its differences in humanity united and the warp engine was bill. And that's when we met the Vulcans and things started happening and we may or may not ever get more details of how that whole thing went down. However that's that's kind of the idea and you know we'll we'll hit there in a few minutes but card even goes to say hey usually everything's Kinda groovy when we get to this point but your society's not quite there yet in fact we only reason we're talking to you right now is because M- rikers missing otherwise we'd be talking to you right But I it's it's one of those clues I think when he's here and you go. Now wait a minute this this to me says you're not ready to enter. The federation have been a big red flag for Picard. If you're making a request like that you're telling me everybody's not on the same page. Which means that even though you may be ready not everybody's ready so we need to hold off. World isn't yeah. Yeah your world's not ready and and to be clear and this is occurring to me right now just to separate the two idea to ideas and I don't know if this occurred to you. There's a difference between making first contact with civilization and inviting a civilization in inviting them to be part of the federation. Sure like one can happen without the other. You know they. They aren't the same essentially. Did in this episode. What do you mean I mean? Well technically they made first contact right however by the end of the episode there not inviting. I mean they.

"Host and I have seen every episode of Star Trek Multiple Times and I'm Mad Sonnenburg and this is my first time three series and this is the show where we are watching just a few episodes of Star Trek skipping. If you watching some more all in attempt to condense a whole lot of hours of star. Trek into about one hundred fifty or so episodes and trying to get beamed up into the FANDOM Kamal Trekkie Matt. I'll tell you what I'm really excited to talk about this episode but I'm also curious to know everybody else out. There listing thought of this episode. So be sure to head over to be me a dot com and make your first contact with the show if you do recon you may just find that we also have a Patriot page. We can get even more star trek content from Brennan me. Just click a become a patient bun and you'll find all the options that are out there for you math. That was very nicely done. I'd do it. I very much like how you did that. Today's episode is the Fifteenth Episode of Season Four of next generation titled First Contact. Or as I like to call it the episode not the movie in case. You don't remember or you didn't watch this when I. This is the one where the enterprise is making. First contact with civilization on the brink of warp drive but not everyone is open to the idea of meeting a new alien species. Matt this is one of those episodes that I often talk about. It seems like like every star series every sci-fi series has an episode like this or. They're like they're meeting new generation. But there's that one guy used the military guy who doesn't like it and they they have this this issue of course star Trek. Does it a little bit different than everyone else? But Matt before we get into the recap of this episode. I'll give you a chance man. What are some of your overall thoughts in this episode? You're opening thoughts plenty messages out of this episode. What you got for us. It's another weird episode and I mean Dad. Guess what you're going to pull out of this run a little bit too. Sometimes but and it's it's a pleasantly surprising twist from ventured a little bit outside the norm of of what we see on Star Trek because the bulk of this episode I felt was really not from the perspective of of Starfleet of the federation bright and that was kind of exciting so okay I want to stop you there. Because I wanNA talk to you about that just because you bring it up here okay. One of the notes that I have for you about this episode. This is the very first episode in the history of Star Trek where they wrote the story from the others perspective. And this was this was. I don't know if you noticed the WHO wrote this episode credit. I I always forget to look at that stuff. Yeah go ahead. Oh No I think I did kind of catch it. There's like a whole screen. Full name literally took up the entire episode because everybody had a hand in writing this episode. Like everybody and Michael. Piller loved the concept This was a story that was Kinda bought through that. Open submission policy okay. Right and Michael. Piller loved the concept so they bought it. They went through the story and everybody in the writer's room had a hand in trying to figure it out and there was a lot of different ways that they were gonna go with it. Okay One of the ways was they were considered making it like the season ending cliffhanger for season four just adjusting the plot a little bit and this being in your hand. I'm not sure how that will work. Okay another early script actually had this as being Wesley's final mission and he would get left behind on the planet and that's how he gets written off the show as opposed to starfleet to to to the academy so they had all of that but ultimately it was Michael Piller who broke one of gene roddenberry's rules and one of his rules. Were you always right. From the viewpoint of starfleet of our ship of our crew right the viewpoint from and so- pillar had to actually go to Rick Berman and convince him that this was a special circumstance and to allow him to write it from the aliens of viewpoint. And saying if we did that it would make this a really special episode and would help us get a message across whereas usually You know the the alien is sort of the. The starfleet is like the stand in for people yes you know whereas in this episode the viewpoint is is actually from the. Alien Cul culture. And we're looking at ourselves In in that mirror And I can't wait to get and talk about that. Berman agreed under the one condition that pillar would let everyone know that they would never ever ever ever ever ever never break this rule again. Yes this rule would go on to be broken a few more times over the course of the writing But it didn't happen very often happened very very rarely but this this is the very first time so once in a blue. Yes so you're one hundred percent right. It felt like it was being written from the other's viewpoint. That's because it was and it's a big deal the fact that it was. I'm okay with it. I enjoyed it and I think it dig it a little something extra than thank I'm telling you Michael. Piller guy knows knows what he's talking about not not just from Star Trek perspective For Ing Perspective like He. He knows what he's doing. Yeah yeah so I I kinda I kinda cut you off a little bit while you're giving opening thoughts anything else. You WanNa hit August all right. So yeah this is. This is an episode. I tell you this is one of those episodes that is. I think it's it's very different from ones that we have seen recently where this one is a lot of two people in a room talking and it's not a lot of the Pew Pew excitement that we've seen here in the most recent episodes. That's true now that you mentioned it was a lot of people talking in a room and we did have a bunch of different groups different combinations of those people that but it held my attention. Yeah and honestly I think this is when Star Trek's at its best like the fun. The Fun excitement is is cool for me every once in a while but when we talk about Star Trek Star Trek being what the world needs right now you know this is something that the world needs to sit down and watch star trek together because it's about people it's about working out your issues working out your problems coming to an understanding or whatever whatever your problem is you're trying to solve whatever meerer star trek is trying to hold up between us and usually that's going to happen between characters dot phaser shots you know and I personally think that this tends to be when Star Trek is at its best. It's two people from two different places that are working out their differences or maybe even in this case not really working out their differences But it's Ed's I I love it. It's it's deep and there's I can't wait to get into our discussion. I really can't So for that before we do that. I WANNA give. I want to talk about one person on our kind of character actress spotlight. Now I do have to say I feel like I'm cheating people because this show was replete with like huge big name. Guest Stars was a for the eighties and nineties. Names really probably don't carry through an an impact our people today. Okay for people going forward but these are definitely some things but there is one that I that I do. Want to talk about Probably not for the reason that you think I'm wanting to talk about this particular person but I think it fits what this segment is going for. Here it be me up. It's an actress named. Bb New worth plays nurse Leno. She's the one who tries to help. Reicher escape and return for special favor you know. Yeah well first of all. Did you recognize the actress now did you? Do you know the name bb newer. Do you know the name George Cohee. They Michael Ensign no now. His name is ensign. No it is. It is My G- Weinstein was the guy that played Kroll of the security guy you can He's just one plays a lot but the place that I do best is. He's the hotel clerk and the first ghostbusters movie. I again. That's not really what anyway. Bb North everyone talking about her beating. Newark plays nurses nurse Leonel her character and that scene was added to the script really late and it was added specifically for her as an actor. Because you see. She was a series regular on cheers and on frazier and she played. Frazier's wife Lilith. Frazier actually guesses her name or starting or whatever anyway. Bb However was a big star Trek Fan so he has a lot of clout big star Trek Fan. And you know how usually talk about celebrities leveraging their fame to get in connections to get on a show. Well this particular one happened in reverse. The production found out that she was a big Fan. Had an idea wrote this part specifically for just. The scene sent it over to her. She agreed to come over and do the same inhere. She is in our show les. Yeah that's it right there. That's the whole whole surprise so anyway we we've got a lot more to talk about. There really is George George. He's the guy who played Chancellor Durkin okay which you know. He's he's got a holistic credits to his name. But I could never get past hearing Roberts tax voice. Who's The guy who does unsolved mysteries. You sound just like that host to me. But it's not. It's not the same guy no anyway This is the part. Why don't we go ahead and jump into this episode We'll go through it still by seeing you. Stop US and tell us what's going on what stood out to you. What questions did you have along the way? What are your thoughts? Is You're experiencing this episode. I contact episode fifteen of season. Four prologue a patient is being wheeled through an emergency Through an emergency room on a Gurney. But this is an alien hospital aliens. Don't understand this patient is Oregon's don't seem to be in the right place and he has fingers and toes. Don't hang up to his face and this guy looks an awful lot like a very bloody William Reicher. That is possibly the shortest open. We've ever had in an episode that I can think of except for maybe best of both worlds like beam down to a planet and go out. Nothing's here it's the Borg and the done even that one. I think out longer at least longer this one because this one yeah they literally like wheel the men and say yeah. He's not normal. Okay credits right. I like so one of the things they really took care of. And we'll go ahead mentioned it here is as you say. They're writing this from the perspective of the aliens. Not from the STARFLEET Perspective and Alien Society is supposed to be us in the late eighties. Early Nineties maybe. Just a couple of years behind us so everything is supposed to look familiar. But it's got to be just a little bit different at the exact same time to where it still feels like. It's from an alien society and we'll we'll get into a few things here and there that I note along the way just.
