Dean Cain on His Journey From Trailer Park to Princeton to Hollywood

"So dean, your life has been so fascinating. So I wanted to ask you a little bit about just kind of your journey before we talk about more of the news stuff. I saw that you spent some of your childhood in Michigan and then in California. And in high school, when you were in Santa Monica, you were excelling in sports, and you even played some baseball with Charlie Sheen and Rob Lowe. Is that correct? And what was that like? It's mostly correct. I grew up, so I grew up in I was born in Michigan, but I moved to California when I was three. My mom up and took off with her two kids. Her first husband was my biological father. It was not an ideal husband, was philandering and so she left and came out to LA to be an actress with two kids to the Asian kids. And we looked more on my given name as Tanaka. So she came out here with us too, and met and fell in love with my dad. Who she married a year later. And then through a really terrible story actually, a woman was raped and I believe killed in an apartment next to us or right near us. And then the next day myself and a couple other guys, my brother and another couple kids were out playing cops and robbers as they used to back in the day. And I was the youngest and so I wasn't able to have I didn't get to a gun. So I went looking for something and I found the real gun and it was apparently the weapon that was used and that day my dad borrowed, I don't ten, $12,000 from his parents in South Dakota and moved us to a trailer park in Malibu. And I grew up in a trailer park in Malibu, which sounds, you know, like trailer park. Yeah, but it was in Malibu. So we'd spend our days outside all day long on the beach, running around, and I grew up with kids like Sean Penn, Chris Penn Rob Lowe, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, all those kids were just, we were all just part of this one little Malibu group. I guess all our parents were involved in the business, not all of them, but in some way or another. And so through this weird happenstance, those kids all ended up being actors. Now I played baseball Charlie for a long time. Rob, rob was never the great athlete. Rob even back in the elementary school was just all the girls loved him and he's so pretty. And he loved the girls back. So that was the that was the skinny and rob, so to speak. Charlie very good baseball player. Played on teams with him forever. And then went to high school, Santa Monica high school. And I was a good athlete student. It worked out real well for me. A lot of the kids are madly when they got to Santa Monica worked able to compete at that level, unfortunately. So a lot of the kids stopped playing sports, Charlie continued to play for a while. I don't even know what he did to seeing it if he played a scene here or not. And then I was lucky enough to with my grades and thank you to get the president of the university, had a wonderful career at Princeton. Grew up a lot turned into him and went from a boy to a man there and played very well. I played football. I mean, football ran track and I played volleyball. And then I got a chance to play for the Buffalo Bills afterward, which was great. And got hurt right away. And then it's been acting and directing and filmmaking ever since.

Incidentally Tracy who's a lifelong Floridian, she didn't know apparently that they had redone this Ruth eckert hall either. Barb yoder was telling me the general manager used to be real small and kind of a dingy plate now. It's huge. 2100 sheet theater beautiful facility over in Clearwater, and they do some really neat shows and anyway, I went like a goofball, I just went to see the Carpenter's tribute band Sunday, had the time of my life, the lady who was the lead singer, Debbie, oh, dog got it. What's your last name? Debbie Taylor, and this promoter in Wisconsin has worked with her before, and he reached out to her and said, oh, this radio guy, this host, talk show host, loved your show, and she was very nice and said, thanks and everything. Which is nice. You know, it was nice of him to reach out. And after I went to the Carpenter's show, I saw Johnny Mathis is coming to town next weekend. I'm going to go see him next Saturday night. Now, I was about one of the youngest people in the theater for the Carpenter's tribute show. I guarantee you I will be the youngest person at the Johnny Mathis concert. Do you know he's 87 years old? God bless him. Can you believe that? He's still performing. I mean, it feels like running beatable. I mean, the last two games in the second half we just took off, I mean, when we were playing like that, I think a really good chance to win it all. In Miami's win, the hurricanes are led by 27 points for Isaiah Wong. The last two years we went to sweet 16 and last year lead 8 and it's just I'm appreciative and I just love to see. "Tour, I'm so thrilled finally to get this chance to talk to you about some things that are really hard to process. I think I want to start maybe with the evening that my former friend Elizabeth blakemore introduced us. I'll never forget how you started in on me on this issue of the origin of life. It seemed like you had a bee in your bonnet. In fact, anybody who watches your videos knows you have many bees in your bonnet. And that's why I love you. You're delightful to listen to. But I mean, I want to talk to you about nanoscience, but can you just give us just a taste before we get into it of what you say to a stranger like me on the issue of the origin of life? I don't even remember our conversation. Well, you don't have to remember the conversation. I don't remember the conversation. Actually, I remember not being that impressed with you. No, but what I'm saying is that you kind of gave me the rundown of Miller urey and what we know today. Can you give us the paragraph version before we get into the deeper stuff? We're clueless on the origin of life. We don't know how to make the basic four classes of molecules that are needed for life. We've never people have never made them in a prebiotically relevant manner, which means that using chemistry that would have been available on an early earth when you didn't have all the big machines that we have now. California gets a break from drenching rains

"California is expected to get a few days break from the weather. Powerful rainstorms of drenched parts of the state flooding roadways, causing landslides toppling trees and flooding hundreds of acres of strawberries, national weather service forecaster bob orwig says the state is getting a break. California's weather is much calmer than it has been. We do have some generally light rain potential coming up for part of the weekend mostly on Sunday. But or vex says next week could bring some issues. It looks like we may have a more significant storm affect California Tuesday and Wednesday with the potential for some additional heavy snows throughout this year. And some heavy rains at the lower elevation. So we could end up with some flooding issues as we go into the beginning to middle part of next week. So Californians will get a chance to clean up before the next round of winter arrives. I'm Donna water

Apparently, U.S. Regulated Banks Are Riskier Than Stablecoins

"All right Friends, well, today we are going to discuss the delicious irony of why, despite all the teeth gnashing of politicians, it wasn't stablecoins that disrupted the regulated financial system, but the regulated financial system that disrupted a stablecoin. First though, I want to do a few follow-ups from things we've discussed over the last few days. Yesterday we talked about Credit Suisse. You'll remember that markets were freaking out about it and pricing in a huge chance of default. After their biggest investor said absolutely not to further investment. As we discussed, despite the fact that its problems were quite different than Silicon Valley banks, having another bank in peril so close to last week's dramatic events inherently connected the two. Well, today, Credit Suisse has posted a record surge of as much as 40% and has seen major drops in their default swaps. The big update is that they were able to open up a CHF 50 billion credit line with the Swiss national bank, which is about $54 billion U.S.. They also announced plans to purchase some senior debt to the tune of about CHF 3 billion. So seems like the European banking crisis is over, right? Well, enough so that the ECB hiked rates by 50 basis points today, and I guess we'll have to see how that plays out over the next few days. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., all eyes have been on first republic. Indeed, before the New York department of financial services decided to off signature bank over the weekend, most believe that first republic was the most likely next U.S. domino. Well, on Sunday, first republic reported that it had more than 70 billion in unused liquidity from agreements with the fed and JPMorgan Chase, but its stock still cratered this week. Given that, word is that they're exploring a sale. Unlike SVB, silver gator signature, no one industry makes up more than 9% of first republics depositor base, and their emphasis on private banking and wealth management seemingly make them a juicy target. JPM is one that many have mentioned in conjunction with the sale, but it seems like others, including Bank of America subsidiary Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley might also be interested.

Sen. Bill Hagerty: Video Released of Russian Jet-U.S. Drone Collision

"This video coming out, have you had a chance to look at the video footage of the jet? Yes, I have. What was your reaction to that? In the first instance, it speaks volumes about the incompetent competency in the poor training of the Russian military. We are allowed to operate. We do operate in international airspace and we should be able to do that unfettered and what we saw here was entirely unacceptable. When I was ambassador to Japan, we constantly ran freedom of navigation operations through the South China Sea and that area we were constantly encountering Russia and Chinese fighter jets. We know how to handle this. But again, this was extremely unprofessional. These were international waters, Russia had no right to do what they did. And this is something that I think it's just extremely unfortunate that we're in a position like this where this type of insect could actually result in an escalation if it's not properly handled. The real problem though is that we've allowed this to occur. I mean, we've decided to wage war on domestic energy here that's driven up energy prices around the world. Vladimir Putin is benefited from this dramatically. You know how high oil prices have gotten. And that's funding all of this maligned behavior by the Russians because we're allowing this to happen. The best way to stop this is to start producing American energy again, lower the cost of energy all around the globe and take Vladimir Putin out of business.

"We talk about it back in the day and you can go back to the big Elvis movies out right now and up for Oscars, but it goes back to Elvis and all these riders as they were in people coming up. CC 70s, there was that they were willing to give up everything. To have that shot. And then we had sort of a turn. 80s, 90s. You saw that turn. Artists were more, you know, people weren't giving up their songwriting critics. They were smarter. They were smarter than water. And now it looks like we've almost come full circle down in here. Yeah, and they're being leveraged into it. Now, I believe it was ignorance in the beginning. It was for me. I didn't know anything about publishing, and I turned out pretty good on it. I was with good people, you know, that weren't just mongers, you know? But the ignorance is what got most of the early people. I think when writers became publishers, the military system stuff, they got it kind of straightened out because I knew both sides of it. But now I think it's more of a take it or leave it, you know? If you want to be on our label, you're going to give up this, and of course, kids going to give up anything for that. That's their life. And I don't know if I can even explain what's in it for a young person that they've lived this probably most of their conscious life for that moment for a record deal. That's it. That's the end all. And it's good when it happens, even if you're giving up a lot, but the heartbreaking thing for me in Nashville as a writer, you get a lot of calls from the new guys in town. They want to write will you get that record. And I meet these people and I love them and they're so excited and just ambitious and it's all ahead of them and in weeks it can be overdone and usually there's not a second chance. That breaks my heart

People May Rethink Their Ties to Smaller Banks

"I still think there is some danger as we go into this week that a lot of people are going to rethink anything they may have in a regional smaller bank that's not subject to the same kind of scrutiny as the big guys. So any small business or medium sized business that's banking with one of these regionals may say, wait a second. I don't want to go through this headache. Let me just pull my money out and put it into chase or Bank of America or Wells Fargo or one of the big guys. And I'll be more secure. We've kind of had this two tiered banking system, if you think about it, right? In a way, with the big guys being subject to all these liquidity restrictions, et cetera, all these stress tests ever since 2008, and then the regulation changing for the little ones in hopes that they had a chance to one day become one of the big ones, and yet now I think a lot of that is going to get rethought. Because of what we just saw and what we're about to see. Anyway, it's all kind of frustrating because you look at it and you say, the reason the reason this bank was in some of the trouble it was in was because the tech sector went wild. And why did the tech sector go wild and then have that bust? Because the Federal Reserve printed too much money. Joe Biden and the Democrats gave out too much money. There has been so much money in the system so much inflation that it created an environment that was ripe for these kinds of crises. I said this all along and you know, sometimes you just don't even know you can't anticipate what it's going to be. We've been thinking maybe a systemic crisis of some sort. Maybe they were making bad loans. In this case, they weren't even making bad loans. They were just treasuries. I mean, they were bad loans in the sense that they were treasuries that were trading at a lower level because they were only paying about one and a half percent interest rate and now on a two year you can get nearly 5%. So that was too bad for them and they didn't properly allocate for the risk period that they were entering. Nor did they probably even understand the inflationary period that we were going into. They're not listening to this podcast. And they were drinking the Kool-Aid with Janet Yellen and Joe Biden and Jerome Powell trying to say, oh, it's all just transitory. Don't worry, don't worry. Well, they didn't worry, and then they got caught in this really bad situation.

"On caught offside jj earlier today byrom unix. Three one over borussia dortmund. They win the german supercup two goals from robert levin gorski levin goski. I'm so sick. That's one which was funny when he did it. And now everyone just tweets that every time. And i'm donald okay. Let's don't kind of done with Actually it's not fair. You admonished me for being very down crystal palace and a much much. Better team is borussia dortmund. And i don't want to be too much of a downer on them to this early and this is as much as it's an important trophy and it was a good game today. It's not like it's not. The most important drove in german football. It's it's you know it's a charity. Shield style yeah thing. I do think though when these teams meet kinda remember what we said after the concacaf nations league final between the us and mexico. It's kind of like when they play each other. It almost it provides the significance like they make it significantly but it i kind of feel like buying borussia dortmund is a little bit of that too. It also feels a little bit like it's history repeating because a lot of mistakes that we saw under the last three dartmouth managers against byron munich. One rules roses team. I'm not blaming mcelroy. Was team are making these individual orders as well Pass like he had a nightmare early on got on got skinned for the second goal by afonso davies And then dortmund just like emerged and played some stunning football for about twenty five minutes in the second half andrew tour farren. Way the better team for most that second. Half the get a goal. Back through marco royce. It's just brilliant and then what happens. A candy right in front of his own goal gives it away and lemon dos could be makes it three one and you like dortmund are going to be a grits. I watch but i don't know if they'll be actually a good effective team. That's going to win something. You might be right. It also might be unfair to make judgements against them. When they're playing against buyer munich. Like they're not gonna play byron every match this season no but like the kind of frailty kind of mistake that they that they gave away. They've against byron. They do it against other teens. But you know what it's too early. It's a new manager mo by match week seven or eight in the bundesliga. Maybe they'll be much more much more compact and taught like maybe all the mistakes will be gone in terms of other results over the weekend that stood out to me. It's it's so funny. Barcelona are in such a dark place right now having just lost messy. Their financial state is in complete ruin. You know we're we're talking about them in our conversation with simon cooper if you know. He's talking about how those in charge at. Barcelona are almost resigned to this fate of sort of entering a period of battling to qualify for champions leagues And then you kind of are scanning through scores over the weekend and there's barcelona four to still finding a way to score four goals. And i think it was gerard. Pk who was talking about it. By the way he took a massive payroll reduction to allow all of their signings to become official And be able to participate. But i think he was basically saying that like we're still good and like you then look at them and think. Yeah actually they. They still are. Yeah i mean the aforementioned. Pk scored. They've got pk. Diced frankie diong. Bush gets can still get around. You know grease men to pie a lot of the players patriot as well. You know they. They are still go. You know they should be. They've spent a lot of money to be good right now. you're right. they better be for the state. They're in right so we shouldn't be too surprising and not that i'm blaming Lino messi for for anything but You know when you have a team that plays through this talismanic player and everything must go to ruin. And he is such a huge figure on the site. some players including grease men have not blossomed. And maybe maybe there will be at bloom for for him in his barcelona career. Yes let's see. I had a couple of things that i wanted to mention here. That's the first one. Jj did you see the end of the red bulls montreal game the other night yes. I did absolutely absurd absolutely absurd. So for those. Who've didn't i would. I would tell you to go on youtube right now and watch it. Can you explain it to them so It's a penalty is committed in what minute so. It's in the ninety. I want to say ninety four or something like that earlier. I thought this dragged on over eight minutes stretch. I'll maybe it was. It could have been. I mean that's i think that's a subtext. To the the main story so the defender tirec is sliding along the ground. The balls cross behind him and his trailing arm the ball rolls over and it's given a penalty which all right fernow that so yes so the first penalty for montreal. They step up and it saved by carlos cornell and it's jubilation yet and then The with the whistle blows bar intervenes. It's retaken he was awful mine all right it was the right call. Here we go. We'll do it again. And so then up steps. We was mason toy for the second penalty and once again penalty is saved for a second time more even greater jubilation but once again the whistle blows and instinctively watching it. When you hear the whistle. Go and it's now like the ninety six minute you think that's it. That's the final time. Whistle ankles are gonna escape with coronel. Eighty ran to the edge of his box for the ball and rolled it out to do a counterattack and then goes no. I gotta go check the screen. Right they got to about midfield. The whistle blew. And you think it's a game. And then i see red bull players like throwing their arms up in disgust. And i'm thinking no no not again. They go back to the screen again. He's off his line a second time and then the third penalty for montreal in stoppage time to win the game. It's victor wanyama who steps up and it's a terrible penalty and it was the worst of the three yep and coronel gets looks like both hands on it shoves it into the top course. Is it into his own goal. And so on. Yom scores the penalty and montreal wind up winning. It was just one of the craziest analyst finishes that i've seen maybe ever and so the thing i wanted to ask you about. Yeah like. I don't know whatever like i don't think there are any bad calls in there. It was very weird to watch a play on the way that he was he was off. Yeah now can. I just say before you ask the question. Shut messing on commentary for the red bulls. Shep obviously you know he. He is the red bull announcer. So he's going to be biased his view and his view in general with these penalties. Is that if you allowed the starter. Okay that you're you're sucking the goalkeeper into this kind of thing. This is what i wanted to ask you about. Mason toy on the second penalty almost comes to a full stop over our hitting the ball. I'm not supposed to do right. He doesn't fully stop. But dan does he get close And so i was wondering like.

borussia dortmund robert levin gorski levin concacaf nations league byron munich afonso davies marco royce byron simon cooper football frankie diong Barcelona farren Lino messi mcelroy dortmund barcelona montreal donald coronel munich

They'll give teams trouble at cairo. Is what i'm saying. So it was very good for liverpool to dispatch them in the way that they did on muhammad's up first pair to score on the opening day of five consecutive seasons amazing onto the weekend. So yeah pretty solid got the oh my god okay My first one is arsenal. I don't know they just like teams are just n- we've said this before. But it certainly warrants mentioning now when a newly promoted side can do that to them They just don't intimidate their opponents. I i don't know. Brentford just never really looked afraid. An arsenal they kind of justify that feeling in ways like not defending long. Throw ins like not really a complicated. I i mean. I guess it was kind of a screen in front. That allowed the ball to bounce through. But i don't know it just. It looked just so simple. Yeah i was. Oh but at the first school. I started to cut across andrew even the first goal. It's a long bowl They don't win the first header. It ends up on the sideline. And i was it ben white who was supposed to be clearing it. I think it was ben white and he just shanks to clear and straight back to brentford player instead of like get rules. Eight on on the right hand side or clear down. The field brentford score. And you're right Just just look soft now. They went into the game without out of obama yang and lack of available. But even still you felt like they should have more Could sack have started. Probably by the way. How nice was it for the brentford fans to give sokha standing and a round of applause coming onto the field very nice after the abuse taken after the euro championship on. So i thought that was. That was pretty good but i'm no arsenal arsenal. Just looked on. The manager comes out tough at the end. Mckellar ted. this is unacceptable. Performance is not good enough. I don't want to talk about players that weren't here. We've enough there to do extra way but andrew like i. I texted a friend of mine. Who's allegiant i defense. So he would have seen more brentford in the last few years than i would have and i said to him. Did you get the feeling that brentford actually played out with. And he said yeah. They didn't really have to. I mean it's not like there was any moment in the game. It's amazingly dixon. After about fifteen minutes. He said oh arsenal of settled in nicely. You know. they're keeping the ball passing the ball and then brentford going score. And i just taught that's about the most effective arsenal have been in. This game is keeping the ball for about fifteen minutes. Putting passes together but no penetration I saw this tweet today as well from said stafford bloor Iron rams deal to arsenal is such a strange saga. A good player. But not really the kind of transfer to dedicate an entire summer. two seemingly at the cost of more pressing issues is the goalkeeper an a goalkeeper. That's even okay goalkeeper. But it's not like you're trying to get manuel neuer so home. Believable it is and then i also saw. I don't know again. I don't know what to do with transfer rumors especially this one. But there's a rumor to of barcelona being interested in pierre. Emmerick balmy yang to which i would say. We're who does barcelona think they are. How are they going to do this. Like their their now famous for having no money they just let the greatest player in the history of the sport before him to leave because they have no money. But they're going to sign a bomb. I don't understand. i've never understood math. They're going to go and buy a ton of spanish lottery tickets tonight. That's what they're leaning on the whole thing godspeed but yeah for if arsenal were were hoping for you know because you know we've talked about everton being in a state of low morale arsenal or right there with them in the low morale cup and This was favorite competition for the last eighteen months. Anyway with tottenham. This was not the way to start and change some of those feelings. So we will monitor. We will monitor. what do you have. My ipad is. Leeds united This is the best period of leeds. United football andrew in twenty years and it also coincides when the team has never been more susceptible to beaten by its greatest enemy. It's it's quite something right now. so i told you about my mentioned manchester united fans fan friends. You know telling me to relax on on saying united we're going to do x. Are white this season because it was leads Finds pretty critical afterwards of marcelo. Bielsa and a lot of them wanted calvin phillips to start. Now i don't know what kevin phillips lord measurement is right. Now you played in the euros. He probably came back last two. Preseason i don't know but a lot of them really thought that he had to play. I was reading fillet in the athletic as i said before. this was interesting. Because robin cox played in the center of the pack and he was bought to be a centre-back not center made bielsa said is that he liked. To- koch played that leads trouble and their inability to turn over possession in areas where they could transition and wreak havoc i think koch and dot were partout problems.

"In the last maybe in the last few years more more left on them which weren't maybe picked up so much. Particularly at the end of that game tottenham or right added. And i felt they were feeding off the crow dot in that regard well. The crowd was reached a point from like the eighty fifth minute. Onward felt like tackles. Were being cheered like goals. Yeah it really really was the. I'm by the way. I know by most metrics on by more statistics city. Where the better sight in this game i. Actually you know if you think after the tenth or fifteenth minute like how how the game went like city did a lot of things that you know that a lot of the ball. But they didn't do very much in it and with it. Rather and i thought this was a pretty comfortable performance from tottenham to thought so to read mahrez had an opportunity in front of goal from about eight yards out where the ball fell to him and he just completely scuffed his shot about twenty yards wide. That was probably. I can't think of too many other chances. Where city gotten position. And i kind of like ten stop. And that's very rare in a game of this nature. Like i'm not as much as as tottenham had a a way of playing that would contain city. It wasn't smash grab No i didn't think so and you you mentioned tang before. I just wanted to mention him for sex because i thought his performance to be going up against greenish Is hard enough but he was basically responsible for grayish and sterling and the job that he did against. Both of those guys was commendable. I i saw kyle walker tweet earlier today. That said something. I don't have in front of me but it said something effective like now that the dust is settled for a couple of days removed just wanted to say ten ganga is one hell of a defender And he's right. I mean that was that was probably the best performance yet. From young player for tottenham and really encouraging because. I don't know how many more assignments are going to get too much difficult to much more difficult than having to count for and sterling. How good is it for new. Not look to the bench and be able to bring on so many knows whether we to and matt dargie yet the f. pretty good weekend for the spurs. Yeah so we'll see what happens now. I don't know if a result like that from a cane perspective so reports are now that that cain is going to be in the side for spurs for their europa conference league match conference. Europa conference league qualifier So and yet is back training with the first team. So he's he's on tottenham. I i don't know. I guess he's gonna play for them. It's i dunno. It feels very strange. It's gonna take a couple of matches of like him. Kind of re acclimating himself with the team like eric dire has made a couple of comments that would like lead you to believe. They're not thrilled with kane right now. No they're not and i was thinking Are thinking back to the last the longest. Hold out. I've seen of this nature in english football because it should be pointed out. It's rarer in english football than it is in the nfl but it's not you know it has happened before pierre van hoy donc back in the late nineties andrew nottingham forest. He held up to november and then he came back. I mean that's obviously not going to happen her. i can't. i can't imagine that something like that going on that long. Nobody was just laughing. Like people were upset. Yeah no people were upset over cannon right you soul and a lot of people tweeting today a you know the news of him returning nine goes those job like as if you know that's forty supposed to be doing but yeah one last thing on that because obviously we don't know what's going to happen but the the newspaper reports were pretty much that city now especially after the weekends game are going to go hell for leather to try and make sure can is a player there's Oliver brown the football writer. Tweeted this nine hundred. Thirty million pounds sterling. The combined value of manchester city's matchday squad. Today and received wisdom is that they have no other choice but to buy can for another one hundred twenty seven million pounds sterling. Guardiola is far more than a checkbook manager but this is obscene does feel like that does not i mean there was one point during the game when like before debris came on they kind of like scrolled to pep on the touch on the side of the field in the managers box that you could kinda see the man city bench behind him and just kinda like looking at it in awe of like debroy no walker bernardo silva just it was just like one rajouri. It was just like one world-class superstar after another on their bench. It's i know it's it's an embarrassment of riches it it's it's embarrassing. All right the the word any other thoughts on city before. I know this is the good impressions that we were doing here. But while we're talking about this game. Yeah i it's it's interesting I read like i. I looked at them. And i thought you know i saw. I saw some good flashes from jack relish. Because obviously all eyes were were on him. He's the big signing culminated club. People like me of question marks over how he's going to be used and will be the same jack released etc etc. I would tell people. Go read Ken early piece in the times. Yesterday about greenish And it's not just about greece manchester city and maybe how this may take a little bit longer firm to set lynn. Pep guardiola is saying that you know. We've bought him for five years. It's not for for just now. You know we have him for the future On seoul by processes. You know where you're plan today. It doesn't really matter. He's he's gonna learn their way in their system Can has some some question marks over over how this will work out really he. I mean he did. Some of the jack realist things. He got fouled. What five times the Weird one when early on when he went over in the box from the slightest touch from oliver. Skip when you thought you stay on your on your feet there and you can just get a shot off and maybe score. You're in on goal. I know i was thinking the same thing. I wonder i wonder if he thought maybe because it was close to being on inside or outside the penalty box and maybe he thought on it. I'm going to go down here. Not ones if the weekend is much to go by. You probably won't get those ones going forward. This season because of the new interpretations on our and there really wasn't that much contact at all so no it made it all the more funny late in the game when he has taught. And we're trying to see it out in the eighth minute. Lucas moral went down when he was. I thought legitimately hacked down by guerrillas and gotten his face like why you do it was just kind of one of those like you of all people like who are you to be talking to somebody about like going down easily so yeah. We'll see how how he comes along. Yeah because it's going to be. It's going to be interesting because yeah it's it's gonna be interesting to see where city city and up on this and On their pursuit of a striker. And if it's not can if you can't begin who might it be. I don't know. But i also don't wanna hear like this. The idea that if city wind up with without getting hurricane. Like i don't know i'm not saying people will do this but i want to say now that i wholeheartedly reject the idea that that now turns them into some kind of underdog in the season. I don't hear it either. You will hear us. You will hear us all will. They never got cane. I mean what. What can we really expect from them now i. I hope that that doesn't happen. Because they're so ridiculous. Phil phone is gonna come back in a month. So by the way your manager has settled a boop rindt last few seasons to destroy the strikers rolled and cried over ho. Sergio guerra was not replaceable. Even though he is to make sure he wouldn't play in his last season. So yeah did you have another good impression just a quick one just to cover liverpool because really. That's all i wanna do. 'cause i'm not the only one with doubts about liverpool's ability to contend for tikal with more or less the same team minus vinyl damn as won the nineteen twenty season but this was a very good start Slow beginning to the gam.

"If he's not the style of play will be will be. Maybe a little bit of a throwback but it might suit the personnel which is essentially. What rafael likes to do. I curious who's played more minutes in the last year Rich listener petrie. It's gotta be pedrick right. Oh qassam was doing it. Because didn't charleston get hurt for a little bit last year. Plus petrie was doing in the champions league. I don't not be gotta be petrie. I don't know but it's It's a lotta minutes. Yeah My other for good first impression. From the weekend tottenham. I i had mentioned this like it was just funny to me. I felt like the irony was laid on pretty thick. As the manager. Who once referred to tottenham as that harry kane team watched a hurricane luis tottenham defeat a manchester city side. That looked like they would've wanted to be the hurricane team. That was i think not lost on any time fancy. Were watching that a couple of things that made this first impression particularly interesting to me and i wonder if you thought this too when you saw their lineup when i saw tottenham starting eleven. I was like this. They know that the season starts today right. I mean they were just names out there that i just. i don't know i just wasn't a galley. Well well yeah you kinda ganga yet. Ten ganga i mean deli. I think only played fifteen games last season But you know devon sanchez. oliver skip stephen burdwan lucas. Mora like these are guys who were kind of in and out and you know all of their new set christian romero is is their new signing their big money signing defense but they went with david sanchez over narrow. I know he's coming off an injury and he did come on as a sub late but like they kinda just went with like a more. Don't know just. I looked at the lineup. I was like oh dear But they all played well like it was one of those games. Where usually there's someone that i can look at. It'd be like okay. Taught him one. But this guy we got gotta keep an eye on that. But like i don't know who i would even say. Everybody did their jobs and it was. It was a really impressive performance from them on. Isn't it interesting that they they played with the counter attacking style or it was a much better. One dan. josie marina was ever able to effect. Well not willing to say that yet. And i don't want to andrew come on come on jayjay you look. I don't want to please god. No i don't want to rehash this. But look tottenham tottenham score one hundred. Something goals like they had. They had games against southampton against manchester united. Where you know. They scored six five. So it's not unprecedented that you know they play well on the back. All right okay. Well done it before our anyway Skysports doing a little bit of an an analysis of what was different in terms of like counter attacking a team against manchester city but it was much more effective and it played much better football and more effective open on the counter-attack and they showed weird the forward players. The average starting position to the former players was under marino versus where was under nuno weekend and it was just more positive and i will pack it at that. I leave it at that. Of course more like they're going to be more positive so it doesn't surprise me but but we've seen them play well on the counter before. I'm not i'm not. I will not accept somebody saying we've never we haven't seen this because we have they have played well on the counter-attack before it's okay you can be smug about it all being small. I'm not being smart. I think nunu deserves a lot of credit. He said of course he does. He also seemed just from an optics view in the way he spoke after the game he seemed more kind of. I think it was the most of anybody over the weekend. That's not that's not the deli we know and like marino gave up on that guy. He can't play for me hugely sake. Huge mistake so yeah. This was the toxicity is gone. That was my big takeaway watching tottenham in this game. It's just like i don't know the you could just kinda like feel at the atmosphere and that place was as good as i think. I've ever seen it in that new stadium. That's another point. I wanted to bring up. Was that you know me. I prefer stadiums to be renovated more in like the you know. You've got this great historical thing now. Yes improve but don't build a new stadium. I because some of them are soulless. And we've seen that bought whatever they did with the the sound in that stadium when they started singing. Are you watching. "Days he's had freedom. I don't buy that for a second. I think the problem has been. He hasn't really wanted to be there at some points. In the seasons. He's been injured out for long stretches. You got to factor that into as well. And i'm wondering as well with his head have been turned by the alleged six hundred thousand a week that Ps g. are offering him to to leave before the end of the month. Typically when a player's head is turned for another team they don't perform well I don't know. I don't know i don't know it's early but i just i don't go out and enjoy yourself like actually i would say that That says that before most games. I you know he's trying to bring back this. Alex ferguson style. To united and a lot of that is paying on the counter on playing with grit like counterattacking plan. They certainly did that against leeds. Massive assault what. I too early for me to buy into pago yet. Well for whatever freedom is given possible for pago hasn't done that so we'll see i guess. Can you name the other six players with four assists in a game Dennis bergkamp jose antonio reyes Says fiberglass weird for me was emmanuel audibly or from tottenham though not for arsenal for tottenham. Yeah scientific isola not so weird. And i guess last season not weird at all are we can. Yeah there you go very. It's incredibly strange that the six players who have done it are compiled from just two teams. Yeah but those is not the way they had. They had a lot of creators in in the barclays. But it's like arsenal from four. Four different mini eras. Yeah you're right. It was really good our snow in one thousand nine which was like the just off winning elite jamshed and would finish second that year. Then there's jose jose antonio reyes arsenal which was two thousand six. Which was the year. They went to the champions league. Final the recess fabric guests in two thousand and nine which was hey. Hey arsenal are going to be top february march in and they're gonna fall away Then santiago zola arsenal which was probably around that time probably four years after maybe two thousand thirteen in the. That's when that's when they really stopped. You didn't believe it anymore. Every season after like the champions league final two thousand and six you went in thinking arsenal look really good and they started really well and then they all. They fell away at least three out of the fight for next. Season's i think like after after christmas or january early spring direction What's your first impression. I have my four. But we'll do we'll do next. My first good impression was actually. I had done little slash because i wanted to talk a bit about but what we've done that now at rafa benitez like considering the manner in which everton conceded the first goal against southampton at the weekend which was michael keane mini-meltdown for them to come back and win. Three one was just a brilliant. Start for rafeh. The reception was good as well. It was positive he got to win. I wonder how it would being if it started off losing three or to one or one or whatever at home too so downton but they didn't do dot. This is was pretty much. The perfect start They are going to play in a certain fashion Which i think will suit everton's If the team has a dna. I think it's going to there's going to be more crossing Until if and until hamas rodriguez returns They're going to be a little bit more australia but still was was pretty good on the first manager to manage both merseyside club's since nineteen th century. Andrew william edward backley was the last manager of liverpool and everton. He was not he was the first manager of both clubs so he managed everton and then they split and then he went off and manage the newly-formed liverpool bill barclay. The thing that was interesting to me that was particularly positive about this result for everton so they were at home and they went down to start out in this game and last season they were. They were terrible at home. And there's a stat out there. I think it was only a collective just seven points across all of last season from losing positions so basically like if they were at home and took the lead against them. You're gonna win that game like they weren't coming back. So i think the fact that right out of the gate new manager and just sort of like it almost sends an immediate message of this is a clean slate. This is a different season like at home. They get the win. They came back from a goal down like right away the things that plagued them last year. They kind of overcame straightaway. That was again just the first impression. But that's that's a good one. Because when they went down i think with morale being what it was. You could hear like from wherever you are. You could hear everton fans groaning here. We go but they came back and won that game by the way to coreys goal. Oh yeah i was super bowl really was and the man who's played seven hundred fifty games in the last year scored a goal a goal again. Richardson so that was really good too. I am seeing reports about Hamas rodriguez drops major athletic transfer hint. So maybe he won't be around but.

"Caught offside with edry. Gummy and jj davani. Oh yes offside pro-peace suburbs of new york city in brooklyn new york and godly jacob. Any what's up. rather how are you doing man doing. Well good well loved the opening weekend of the league. A lot of people did it was generally met with the there was some quibbles. I heard few quibbles generally was a big thumbs up. Yeah i really truly believe that. Like we all knew this all throughout and you and i harped on it extensively in our preview podcast but i think seeing it at the euro's seeing it now in the primarily having fans back is just. It's just a game changer. I feel like a broken record saying this but like it. Just is i really. I really honestly believe. I'm not trying to be hokey or corny or anything like that. I really believe that like enthusiasm. Joy like those are all contagious feelings and so like when you see a goal scored and then the camera pans to the limbs just like bouncing wildly behind a goal and people hugging and like. That's contagious like you're not there but you feel that those emotions through the tv set and it just like. I can't help it alter your mood while watching a game it just it just it changes the whole feel of it. You're so right. And i can't remember who the grit philosopher was or. Maybe it was just one of those instagram philosophers. But i you know one of those memes like live laugh love and then they'll have like something from kheirkhah guard right beside it but i'm enthusiasm is such a big thing but like andrew. We talked about last season and a feeling that. Oh my god. It was a drudgery of games on front of empty stadiums and we couldn't find the meaning in it but you give meaning to something and fans give meaning to football. I'm convinced of it. Yeah i believe that to be true as well like. I remember watching you know. Even less. When they went to the bubble it was. I will always say what they did to put that together. Have it go off relatively speaking without a hitch. I know that you know teams could not all the teams. The league was represented. But like you know having everyone. They're playing at a tournament in those conditions. It was an amazing job by the league but like there was something so sterile about it. That like you in watching it. You can never quite removed from your head that like the greater context of what was going on in the world. Yeah and that's why. But that's why andrew the best thing about that Mls is backed tournament which we will soon forget. It will recede into the back of our minds. The best thing about it was often that you could hear the shouts of the managers that espn and mike dope the managers on the sidelines on the coaches and the players. So you got that day. Were giving the enthusiasm that you talked about. They were giving the meaning But now we've got like absolute you know psychopath who live and breathe the game and go every weekend and there in the stadium and they are just letting it all out on on the first weekend from brentford arsenal right. The way through it was just this energy. This was felt right and it looked good on jam. And you know what may be excited to do this podcast. Because there were podcasts towards the end of last season where you just felt like we are taken off games here until we get out of this autre autre sterile pointless and often you know it was none of it was pointless in the sense that there were points. Know for play there. There was european spots and there was this dot. But you know it was just drudgery and bis. This weekend was the exact opposite excited to talk about. Yeah absolutely it. All just felt different One other note on the fans Because all of it for the most part it was all great. Like we're saying right now but there were like we saw this when fans returned during the nba playoffs. People lost their minds. It was like they forgot how to behave. In these situations. We saw it a little bit at the european championship. At wembley people just kind of forgot. What like acceptable behavior is like being overly excited for an event is not an excuse to lose your mind and sure enough Prior to manchester united leeds off. We saw once again. That people kind of forgot about like acceptable behavior as some of the videos that came from that were pretty. Were pretty rough and it was funny. Jj because i have you watched the movie. The trial chicago seven. I have not watched it yet even though you keep telling me to watch it. So it's excellent. I highly recommend it. It's on netflix. Next it's phenomenal but like it's all about the the riots at the democratic national convention In the sixties and like there's one scene where they're talking about how inside this bar there's a bar and it's very high society and like people aren't even paying attention what's going on outside of the window and on the other side of that window. The police are about to like just go at this group of protesters and like they keep talking about how it's sixties outside the bar fifties inside the book and i felt like i watched the movie. I've seen it a couple of times. But i watched it the night before and then i was watching manchester united leads the next day and like there's video being shot from inside like starbucks or something. It's like people just like having coffee. It's quiet and then like you look outside the window. And there's forty people dislike killing each other in the streets over a soccer game. And i was just like this is like the movie last night. This is you know. Twenty twenty one inside the bar. Nineteen eighties outside. The bar of just like hardcore hooliganism. It was just. I don't know if you see that video that talking about if somebody from inside this little coffeehouse like take outside of people smashing each other up shares mailboxes or whatever it was. I did but like you know this is. This is twenty twenty one years of of of legion. i'd being out of the primarily. I'm not blaming leads by the way but you know matching leads. Fans going out had has been happening For a long long time and it gets ugly and it was apparently was pretty. Oh getting the city to not in terms of physical violence but in terms of some of the chance that were being saying.

"Caught offside with edry. Gummy and jj davani. Oh yes offside from. Suburbs of new york city partner in brooklyn new york and gaumin jacob any. What's up rather. How are you doing man doing well. Good well loved the opening weekend of the league. A lot of people did it was generally met with. The there was some quibbles i heard. Few quibbles generally was a big thumbs up. I know that you know teams could not all the team was represented but like you know having everyone.
