"Vice President. Welcome the First Baptist Dallas Appreciate you so much. God bless you. It is good to be back in church after church, Mike Pence and Greg Abbott held a celebrate Freedom press conference at a Dallas hospital, where they congratulated one another. Here's the governor, sometimes me, calling him sometimes late at night or on a weekend. All the times. It will be him, calling me most recently on Father's Day, with Texas staring into the Corona virus abyss. The celebration at First Baptist generated a cacophony of condemnation, which may have had an effect just before Independence Day and to the shock of his fellow Republicans, Abbott reversed himself and re issued a statewide mask mandate. And that's tornado. For many Texas conservatives. You're seeing definitely his face turning against him, and I don't approve of what he's done. I call it Governor grab it because I think he's in the middle of a power grab. Michael Berry is a conservative talk show host at Katie R. H in Houston and at 20 other radio stations, he says, since Abbot's Mask mandate ate Texas Republican County organizations. Have voted to censure the governor. For many people. The idea that you're going to dictate that they're going to put something on their faith is anathema to their very existence and people feel very passionately about Governor. Abbott's office did not respond to multiple requests for comment. A recent Quinnipiac poll showed his approval rating falling precipitously 48%. Get 80% approve of his mask order. Dr John's er Wass is on the governor's pandemic Strike team. He's going to be recognized for having done the right thing, despite what political pressures might be pushed upon a meter from the Rydell from the left. This is not going to be a very pretty several weeks. That hasn't been a very pretty several weeks and months. But it is going to come through it in Texas remains a Corona virus hot spot. Almost 20% of all the deaths in Texas from Cove in 19 were reported just in the past week. Wait. Goodwin. NPR NEWS Dallas Germany has been praised for how it was able to curb the spread of code 19 early on. But now for the first time in three months, Germany is recording more than 1000 new cases every day. And now health officials are worried about a second wave. NPR's Rob Schmitz reports. It was late June summer had just started. The virus began surging in the United States, but Germany had managed to keep its numbers stable at below 500 new cases a day and was on the verge of reopening its borders for summer travel. Germany's top biologist, Christiane Colston was not celebrating. It's been mission optimistic, and I know more now I think we're in for major problems within two months if we don't sound the alarm toast in was recording the final episode of the season for the country's number one podcast Dust Corona Virus update and he ended it with a warning to all Germans who were acting as if the virus was a distant memory. That's what moment in dining timed accusations what we're seeing right now. Simply un does all the work we did this spring. When we pulled together and considered others by the end of July, the head of Germany's Disease Control and Prevention Agency faced reporters with a frown when don't any noise, and we come in Georgia and you know the latest development in covert 19 cases in Germany is for me and the Robert Cock Institute of Grave Concern. Lota Villa had bad news. A recent poll had shown Germans saw the Corona virus as less of a threat than before. They were growing tired of social distancing and Villa warned of a second wave is after knowing my gun story. I'd like to take this opportunity to make something quite clear how the pandemic develops is up to each and every one of us. Four days later in Berlin, estimated.

"Woodland Hills, one of one South bound at DeSoto Avenue. Still have this crash blocking the middle lane there and you are backed up all the way. From Valley Circle Boulevard. This's all things considered from NPR news. I'm Stacy Vanek Smith and I'm Ari Shapiro. In Texas. Five conservative members of the state Legislature are suing the governor who's also a Republican. They accuse Governor Greg Abbott of abusing his emergency powers during the pandemic. The lawsuit reflects a larger ideological power struggle between the right wing of the Texas GOP and governor Abbott As NPR's Wade Goodwin reports the governor's decision to hold power close to his vest is making him unpopular with both Democrats and Republicans. When the pandemic first hit Texas this spring, Governor Greg Abbott earned pretty high marks as much of the state shut down, and he promised that data and medical science would guide it's reopening. But as the country's economy fell off a cliff and president Trump began to forcefully agitate for the states to reopen Abbott did on the first of May measured Lee at first. But soon Texas was back in business. When Democratic leaders wanted to continue to at least mandate masks, Abbott said No, and he vowed to sue any mayor or county executive who tried it. So initially, I had the authority to issue a stay home order a restaurant order a face covering order. When the governor issued his reopening order, it included a provision Removing that authority Judge Lena Hilda Go is the Harris County chief executive who helps govern nearly five million people, including the city of Houston. Hidalgo says Abbot's refusal to allow local leaders to mandate any restrictions change the public's perception of the viruses threat as the governor would say. Okay, well, now you can go to the restaurants and now you can go to the bars and now you want the water park and A mall and indoor events. You know, my message continued to be guys. Please stay home, You know, minimize contact, but it's It's hard right. The governor also refused to recall the Republican dominated Legislature into session. It was abbot show and no one else. For the first couple of weeks, Texas seemed okay. But after Memorial Day that changed Hospitals in Texas were suddenly deluged Cove in patients in the Rio Grande Valley had to be flown 800 miles to the Texas Panhandle because there were no available hospital beds in between. Then at the end of June, Vice President Mike Pence held a celebrate Freedom rally at a Dallas megachurch. With the choir singing unmasked before a congregation of 2200 many of whom were also unmask Mr Vice President. Welcome the First Baptist Dallas Appreciate you so much. God bless you. "The testimony of your eternity is evidence by your faith today. So be honest. Do you have a hope that is based on your relationship with Jesus. Let me tell you one more story of what that looks like. Dr W crystal was the Pastor First Baptist Dallas Texas Texas for a long time in the last century and I'm one occasion. He was flying on an airplane and he found himself in the seat next to a well known theologian and seminary professor. He desperately wanted to start a conversation with this. This man and as the flight got underway. They began to talk through broken this and tears. The man told Dr Chriswell about how he had recently lost his little boy through death. Dr Chris will listen as he told his story said that one day he came home from school with a high fever and they thought it was just one of those childhood things you know they call fever virus and things of that nature but it was actually a very violent form of meningitis in ingenious. The doctor told the father this well known theologian. Probably quote the Bible back and forth to you. He said we can't save your little boy's life he's going to die and so this seminary professor loving his as he did he. He sat beside the boy as his boy drew closer and closer to the day of death and he watched him and he said it was the middle of the day the little boy who strict going from him and his vision and brain was getting cloud and he. He looked at his father in the middle of the day. Said Daddy it's getting dark isn't the professor knowing what was going on in his son's Mind said yes so it's getting dark very dark. Of course it was very dark for the little boy and he said Daddy. I guess it's time for me to go to sleep then isn't it and he said yes on stab you go to sleep. The professor said that the little boy had away fixing his pillow at night and he put his hands on his head where he slept and he slept like that all throughout the night and he would wake up in the morning but before we get to sleep he'd say good night. Daddy I'll see you in the morning but that time was different because a little boy fixed his pillow and he went to sleep and never woke up again again so Dr Crystal said to the Professor said that the professor didn't say anything for a long time. He just looked out the window airplane but in a moment he turned his face back to Dr. Chris will all the tears flowing down his cheeks. Lisa Dr Crystal. I can hardly wait till the morning. You see many of you have testimony just like that. You've said goodbye to loved ones here. He tried to tell yourself that. It's just a temporary separation and it is for. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. And he gives you the truth that you need to be sustained in grief in a god glorifying way and so every invitation. I ask you to make a choice. What's the choice for today? The choices to walk with Jesus in such a way that the people around you have the same hope that I had yesterday when I did this. Sweet Lady Funeral. We hated to see her go but we had no doubt about where she was going. Are you living in that that way or your family. They know your faith they see your faith they'd know your love for the Lord and because of that they know where you're going if that's the case today than I rejoice with you but if that's not the case with you then today you need to repent a sin pasture self upon the Lord needed. Ask for His mercy and ask for him to make you knew make you whole and give you that hope in life eternal but for others in the showroom. Maybe the choice for you is that you've been battling and maybe even trying to suppress those feelings of grief. Some of you may have been doing it for years. You've never been honest with the Lord you've just tried to to put on that face. Maybe you've never Sunday you come into church and you think that you gotta wear mass. Do you see what Jesus Jesus is telling us today. He doesn't want your mask because it doesn't matter to him in the first place was he want he wants you through his word. He has come near to you this morning. And he wants you to be honest about your grief. He wants to be honest about your broken. This he wants you to be honest just about your pay. And he wants to be honest about your sin and he says stopped trying to carry that burden he has come to give you life and the life is birth within us when we come honestly sleigh to Jesus and embrace him by faith and so what choice will you make. Today I pray that you will choose used to come to him honestly to worship him in spirit and in truth and a cast your life and your death upon you to bring your boat broke broken down to the foot of the Cross and watch him bring healing as a Li he can spray together..

It is amazing. What what I got to witness today in many levels. And so we're going to talk to somebody who had dinner with the president last night. My pastor Dr Robert Jeffers passer from First Baptist Dallas and Fox News contributor. And so we'll talk to him coming up next. I got a lot of questions like why does Trump care so much about us Christian folk liberty did you help him pick out the Jeremiah verse? We're going to talk about the state of the union. What would what he thinks as he watched? It. You know, what the fallout from that is we got so much talk about we're going to be so much fun. So Dr Robert Jefferson joins.

"Dallas Cutler will see there this weekend at First Baptist. Dallas. Okay. So Jon tester Senator believe he's a democrat. He says he shot it down. Was it worth it? It's the most stupid shutdown. I've ever seen in my life. He should go back to school and find out what civics is about. And find out if you don't have the votes, you don't shut the government down. I mean, what what what did we get? We got nothing, man. I I am very very disheartened. And you know, some people are saying, well, I trust him. And I don't lose hope dude, you told me that last night. And then today, he surrendered, and I know that I did have a moment where like well. I see maybe his he's planning. He's got another another trick up his sleeve, and maybe I'll be getting five point seven billion villa wall in the next three weeks. But then I said, no be realistic. He'll get some scraps. And they'll sell it to us as if it's like some kind of a victory. I capitulated on Mexico's gonna pay for the wall. I don't know why he didn't tax remittances. I could care less who's gonna pay for just put the thing. But now, we don't you see that we're settling as each week passes for less and less of what we were promised. The scraps get smaller and smaller and smaller, and we're supposed to be grateful to our master. I'm going to tell you some I have never gotten so many personal messages and text today from people that I work that I'm friends with that I work with I want to church were saying are you matters. I am today. One of my Dallas police officer friends says Christie us mad. I am my friend at who works. He's a blue-collar worker and he lives in Arlington. We went to church together or less church. And he he says. Are you is this as bad as I think it is? He says everybody at work as ridiculing me today. Eight hundred two eight WB is our number eight hundred two eight nine two two seven. Let's go to Todd in Weatherford. You're live on WB AP. Hey, chris. How're you doing? Okay. I saw caller longtime listener, well, if you're a first time caller that I gotta do this. Thank you. Did that? Anyway, that's all that's all. That's a goal horn. That's a goal horn. That's not supposed to hurt. Okay. I believe in truck. I know he's got a plan. I just absolutely no this man plays the long game. He's been he wrote the book on the ghost. He gave me a little win. But I promise you. We just gotta hold on. He's good at not get five point seven billion. He's gonna get enough to build the whole damn thing. Well, I hope you're right. But I don't see how that's going to happen. Can you tell me what we've gotten after three weeks of a shutdown? What what do we do? We have to show for it right now. Now that it's over. Well, one thing we have is the whole country is even more mad at the Democrats. They were before we have actually no they're not. They're more mad at Trump. There's a guy who's a guy who's featured in our local news today who is Hispanic and is a Trump supporter, and he was furloughed to the EPA for thirty six days. And he is yelling at his TV. Because any so mad. I'm going to read to the direct quotes coming up at eight thirty. But he is he's like, this is pathetic you screwed me over. And what are we have nothing? I don't know. I just how would you feel thirty six days, and no paycheck and your support the guy you voted for him. And he's got nothing to show for you. Making you suffer for thirty six days. How would you feel how how could you feel good about? How has he ingratiated himself to eight hundred thousand people when he didn't even get a thing. A darn thing. All I can say is if he doesn't get it in the end, I'll be the first one to admit that I'm wrong. But I honestly believe this man knows a lot more than I do. Well, he doesn't know a lot more than you. Yeah. But he he's this is first time being the president and being in a political position. And he might be getting nobody said he could win and North Korea. Nobody said he could win pulling our troops back home. Nobody said he could win winning not when he started raising tariffs. Let me pause you on that. Let me pause you on let me pause you on that. I'll give you the tariffs. But in Syria. It's it's gotten worse, and they will reconstitute I didn't say Syria. I said North Korea. Okay. No, no. You said pulling troops back pulling troops back out of Syrian saying. That was an absolute disaster. It was stupid it p owed me more than anything because that will reconstitute them. Okay. That's number one. We didn't. It was the stupidest thing he said was that we're gonna pull troops on Syria. That was a dang stupid thing. Second of all North Korea. They have more nuclear facilities, and there's more nuclear stuff going on now. So we have not look I was excited after the first one, but it sucks right now with North Korea. We're getting the Royal bone from North Korea right now. Now, we may win in that. But we have not one in that. So the other thing you said was the tariffs. I'll give you the tariffs. I'm not gonna say anything negative about the tariffs. I think we won and are winning on that. So but the other the other two now withdrawn from where? I- withdrawing from where we're tell me where you you you cited as one of the three things it's like all these great things withdrawing from where Syria, that's a disaster where? I just think bringing as many troops home or the threat of bringing many trips foam as possible is gonna do more for our long-term strain on. We did that we did that and how to work out for sniff ghanistan. Tweets relieve their let constitute again, he can hit us again. I'm sure. Korea. Should we get Syria? Let ISIS come back. Don't. They are kind of cool. I can go back to war them again. And do this all over again. Why don't you? What do you think the people that are there right now who are getting their butts killed and killing other people every day who are boys and girls out there? What do you think they would tell you right now? Because I've heard what they say, what do you think they're going to tell you about porn people out of Syria. What do you think? You know, what I say though, we're in a hundred and seventy different countries out grout. The world, okay? And we don't have many of our family don't have enough. Isis. Wasn't that big of a deal? Obama was right. Isis JV. Obama was right. I got you. I think I think no offense to him. But I think I think he's delusional and Donald Trump is not somebody that. You don't wanna the questions I asked today was did he leave us for for the moderates today is he gonna is he going to turn into a moderate to try to win the election two years? This is all about. Eight hundred two eight eight WBZ is our number eight hundred to eight eight nine two two seven. I'm mad Jesse. In Fort Worth you live on WBZ. Yeah. I told you screen called. I'm a black American conservatives and saying the government in limbo for the past ten years. I am proud of what he's doing. He's governing. And yes, I don't agree with everything he's done. He's doing. But at least I know that the C E O is running the country. I know for fact that this ended his death you both to be my boss. But I know he's not really my boss is see. Oh, that's my boss, but the CEO was paying for the past ten years. This guy is managing governing. This country will be some negatives. But I think he gave a democrat they bone. So what did we get? What are we get out of this? He shut the government down for thirty six days. What did we get today?.

"Dr Robert Jeffress pastor First Baptist Dallas, friend, and spiritual adviser the president's and president Donald J Trump all having a brand new series were in the middle of at First Baptist. Dallas from remember this Sunday the series continues. Plus, that's January twenty seventh interview the of Jefferson will have with governor Mike Huckabee right there in person. And so that's really exciting. This series. Of course, called choosier attitude. Change your life all the details at first Dallas dot org. Dr Jefferson, thank you for joining me for a little bit more time here on the pro honor to thank you. So governor Mike Huckabee I would love to know just personal stuff here. I would love to know how you or how did you guys? I meet you governor Huckabee. I know he used to be a Baptist minister. I guess you could say still is right. And what was what was it like? And I don't know when you guys started to become friends, or what may have been before, you know, he was on the national radar etcetera. And and what what do you like best about him as a person? Well, I tell you he is a winsome war. That's the way I'd term it. I mean, he can be tough. But he's not mad at people. He just is such a pleasant demeanor about him. And I got knowing oh, I guess about six or seven years ago. He actually came to preach at our church. He's permitted us preacher and got to knowing that way. And then crew talks got to know him and a little bit more. And in fact, I'm going next weekend up to Nashville to be on his television show Huckabee which is on TBN every Saturday evening, but he is just a great leader. I thought he would make a great president of the United States. And he was a great guy, but God had another plan for them. And I'll tell you what in one of the things I want to ask him in the interview because I know. His daughter, Sarah and watched her up close and in person in the Oval Office in her interact with the president, and I have great admiration for her. But I'm gonna ask the governor how he feels when he sees his daughter attacked like that. And how does he keep for blowing his top would like to know? That is a great question because this is unbelievable. The stuff that's happened to her over the years. So I I wanted to say that I too I really am. I think most of us really really can say can speak for most of us. And how proud we are of Sarah. And I would love to know. And I don't know what you know about this. But how how he raised her trained her up and I- schooling or anything. How did how did this woman as far as, you know, become who who she is today where she's tough she doesn't take prisoners, but she's also kind, but she's tough when she needs to be tough cetera. What do you know about her being? It's pretty well. I I know I mean, personally, he's exactly that way. She's a very sweet person she's up to sign dedicated Christian. But where she can be tough when she needs to house. She was reared in such a way to be that way, come Sunday morning at nine fifteen or ten fifty and you can hear me ask governor Huckabee that question because I as a parent, you know. I mean user out of the nest now, but for me, you know, having a fifteen year old and a twelve year old. I just love hearing because I hearing how how he did it because what is words of wisdom on that. Because I. I I would love it. I I want my daughter and son to be like her and like him. So it's great to learn from other.

"If any of our listeners have trouble with anxiety or worry. We're going to look at what the bible says about how to handle worry and sorts of very practical message uplifting, worship. And of course. Nobody's more interesting to listen to then governor by. And I'll have a chance to interview him. Absolutely. It's going to be a very exciting. Now, I want to ask you something. But since it's Martin Luther King junior day one great story is thing about Dr king's testimony or some kind of a story. Some could you share with us that you like or maybe just a concept or something because I love hope we all all of us doesn't matter. How where we are politically as you say. And I say, it doesn't matter where we are politically a what color we are. We're all if if you're a Christian and authentic Christian you're going to heaven, and it's exciting to think about well. I'll tell you what I admire about Dr king is he didn't allow himself to become compartmentalized his faith had failed to engage with the culture. You know, we hear all the touch will treat her shouldn't be involved in politics on pled, Dr Martin Luther King junior. Didn't listen to that kind of nonsense? He believed that his faith in the word of God impacted not just the way he worshiped on Sunday morning, but all of his life, and including his public policies. He knew that racism was wrong. He knew it was fundamentally wrong for blacks or people of any color, not to have the same rights as whites in our country, and he was willing to put his face to work. And you know, you look at this Chris route American history, it has been Christians, and especially pastures who've been in the forefront of change in American life. I mean, it was about pastors ministers, the black robe, regiment who were leaders of the American revolution. Are you look at the abolition of slavery? It was Christians who were at the forefront of that movement. And of course, the civil rights movement, Dr king and others. So I think he reminds us that as Christians we not only have to right? We have a responsibility to engage our faith with the culture, speaking of Christians. I one thing I did not know until I read the book with my son for his home schooling several years ago was about William Wilberforce a Christian evangelist. He. Because of him. Really because of him Christianity defeated slavery in Great Britain without firing a shot unlike over here in the United States, correct? That's exactly right. And again, you just look at it. Christians have been at the forefront of of of calling for equal treatment. And they've been at the forefront of leading great social change where needed. So I don't know if you've seen that video of the Covington Catholic student native American guy, and it's covered in the following video with more accurate, pictures and stuff like that. What what are your thoughts? I don't know. If you've gotten soak that up yet, if so what are your thoughts on the coverage, and what went down after we we know. So I have seen some of the footage, and I've seen some more. So did I'm not sure that I've seen all of the footage. But I think there's a general warning here for all of us. Whether it's the this incident with the coveting school students are whether it's aronie ass- BuzzFeed. Breaking news. I was actually on Fox News when that breaking news came on and had to respond to it right away about Robert Muller, disputing what BuzzFeed said, I think we've got to be careful not to make judgements too quickly in this day of instant news. We want to draw conclusion right away. And what we see may not be the whole story. So I think we need to be very careful to make sure we have all the facts before we render a judgment speaking of the BuzzFeed story, and now it's been slapped down. What are your thoughts on how that went down and Muller speaking now, and where we're at now with what we know about that. Now here several days later. Well, you know, just so interesting. I mean the night before CNN MSNBC, I told Lou Dobbs. I watched them almost drawing up articles of impeachment in real time on television. I mean, they were salivating they so hate this of that. They so have lost any semblance of objectivity that they're willing to be a believable, why more than willing to believe the truth? And I really think this really lessens the credibility if it was possible even further of the mainstream media, and I just think again, it shows they have absolutely lost any sense of objectivity in their coverage of this president. Dr Robert Jeffress pastor First Baptist. Dallas. What do you like about the shutdown offer that Donald Trump gave on Saturday? Whether it could be how he did it or what he offered or both. Well, let me be real clear because I think the shutdown is. Terrible thing in the sense of what it's doing to these workers looked bible is very clear the laborer is worthy of his wages every employer including government ought to pay their workers. Equitably? It is not right to demand work without pay now. So what is happening is terrible. But I reread the constitution again Friday afternoon articles one to article two says it is the president's cheap responsibility to protect the nation. He is commander-in-chief article one says it is the congress responsible for funding the government they are failing alert job to fund the government. And the reason they're doing it is not some great moral high ground about a wall. Look, the democrat leadership has repeatedly voted for a wall over and over and over again, all they're doing is playing politics. Trying to deny President Trump fulfilling a campaign promise. So they can shoot him out of the saddle. Twenty twenty. That's what this is all about and to play politics with government workers paychecks. It is completely wrong. Dr jefferson. What do you think about the democrat responsibly literally for the most part seemed to say, no, we're not gonna go share with anything on this. And that shows you the hypocrisy they cry they whine about the dreamers. This ought to be a bumper sticker for twenty twenty Democrats don't give a DAM in about the dreamers. Absolute truth. And that's what this is proving. Yeah. Well, how about this? This was very interesting because I've been saying this for weeks, and some people get mad at me, and such, but you know, you kinda and I don't wanna speak for you kinda hit hit on this. And that was all pumped when I saw you say it say in the service yesterday the furloughed workers. Like, you said it's terrible bought. I I'm I'm really chastising people who are saying they have no money. They have no food because you should be prepared for an emergency. And you should have saved up three months of emergency expenses for living expenses on. So that if you lose your job, you are sustain your sustain yourself this country eighty percent living paycheck to paycheck. That's unbuilt living. Well, and I'm going to be very careful not to criticize people who are going through a difficult time, financially and workers who serve our country. That wasn't my point to criticize them, the context of what we're talking about is wise living in the book of proverbs, and the Old Testament has a lot to say about just how to live wisely. And one of the principals in proverbs twenty one twenty is the wise person as precious oil in his well lane, but the fool consumes at all. And it's just not a wise way to live to consume everything you make and by the way. That's not just a proverb for rich people people at every income level need to learn the secret of spending a little bit less than you earn over a long period of time. So that Wendy's unexpected emergencies come and they always come whether it's the loss of a job as sickness a car repair Bill, you'll have some money set aside for the future again that is not a criticism of these furloughed workers. But it's just talking about a wise way to live. You know, I I think that's what I was just the way to someone of could be we should we should not live at our means. We should live below army shouldn't we that's right? And I know that very very difficult, and especially in the kind of society, we live in where things are advertised. But you know, I mean, I remember, you know, when my wife, and I were making twelve hundred dollars a month. You know, we set aside one hundred and twenty dollars for future emergencies that would come up, and and it's a hard disciplined. But it's one. That pays off actor Robert Jeffress when we come back, and it can you hold for one more segment with me because I want to talk about Mike Huckabee governor Huckabee he's coming to speak or doing interview with you at First Baptist Dallas this weekend and his daughter, Sarah and a little bit about your serious. Choose your attitude, change your life. Okay. Can you.
