"finebaum" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"Are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Welcome back to our program. We are continuing with your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 mic is up next. And Houston, hello, Mike. Hey, Paul. You know, a lot of folks are putting this narrative out there that the sky is falling at Clemson because davo has a bit of an old school view about how things should be conducted. And the reality is that the loyalty that he displays for his players. I mean, think about the phrase that he's used, not transfer portal is my locker room. Well, they're all going after these four and 5 star players to come in and play for them. And what does each form 5 star player want? They want play in time. Most of them know that they're never guaranteed playing time. They've got to come in and develop and earn that spot. Well, with dabo, you're going to have that opportunity to develop and earn that spot on the field and not get replaced via the transfer portal overnight by another athlete. I mean, imagine you're Trey Sanders at Alabama or one of these other guys that's been putting in a year or two or three in that program thinking this is going to be my year, never mind. We're going to bring in the ACC's leading rusher and now I've got to compete with this guy who's got four years, three, four years of experience on a division one shield. That's a tremendous amount of security for a high school kid who's trying to pick a program to go to and spend his time putting in that the blood sweat and tears that these guys put in. Yeah, that's really a fair point. Hey, thank you very, very much. I really appreciate that. Doctor Mel is up next. Hey, Paul, how are you today? We are doing great. Thank you. All right, yeah. I just want to thank you for the job. You and Mark and the rest of the guys doing it needs to be some kind of way, I don't know a lot about journalism where we can evoke for you to receive some kind of war as the young lady from hospital of Luther King on the earth today. The chance of me being honored by anyone is very low, but I have done something rather extraordinary throughout my career, I've managed to avoid being honored at almost every turn. Well, but you know, there comes a time, but the program is really enjoyable. My audience is saying what you just said means more to all of us here than some organization saying, giving us an award. So our obligation is to the people that listen and watch this show, not to some organization where you got a bunch of starchy, stodgy, old, bitter people who decide who gets the awards and who doesn't. Does that sound absolutely sounding Randy? Bitter at all. But let me assure you. What's the word? I'm being completely honest here. If asked, I would not accept. Yes. I have one proposal for you. As you know, Richard and both had other careers alone with his law practice and my medicine. So this is what I want to propose, Richard and I being from the sports council, we want to represent you in your new NIL. And we guarantee you. I guarantee you, we'll never give you a reason to want to enter into a transport portal, we will treat you right lambda would be well. And do you make our dough? Do you remember when Richard was a sports agent? Yes, sir, I do. Yes, sir, I do. I covered his first client and it was a big one too. I bet Richard, it's almost 40 years ago, Richard probably doesn't even remember it. He has a future hanging in his office. But that was one of my reasons, Paul for taking the law sabbatical from the healthcare for you was the ten law school where mid Richard and course I was a sports counselor for about 15 years and I didn't call myself an age and I was a counselor in my main motivation was to help the young people develop a career in teach them right from wrong and how to live a live of good morality on and off the field. You know what's funny, I remember and I'm not going to mention his name because he's dead. But I got to be friendly with a guy about 25, 30 years ago, who was the most among the two or three most notorious scumbags who ever was a sports agent. I think he went to jail. And I met him. After he had come out of federal prison and of course he had become a minister by then. My goodness. I think he's probably the only person that's ever done that before. But it was really interesting to hear his perspective on what led him down that path. My goodness, my goodness. Well, Paul, what do you think the NIL is going to end point do you think we'll see some kind of change or rules of regulation? I think it's fine for the players, but the institutions that seem to be such a war zone and then so much.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. Named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

"If you saw the game on saturday night between missouri and kentucky. You saw a lot of chris broderick against junior monster game. The co offensive player of the week in the sec and he joins us now from lexington. First of all chris congratulations. I know you're team. You wanna move ahead but man what a what a performance it was fun it a good one. Let's let's go back in and that was a huge game. Everyone knew how important it was for the cats to beat missouri Take us through the week of preparation. We head coach on thursday night. And it i'd say you guys were ready to play that that would be the understatement of the year sir so throughout the we just knew that we had abba chip on our shoulders because last year you know we felt we were prepared but our energy just wasn't there so we felt like we all wanna coaches told us like. Are you going to let them out play you. Are you going to let them out. Execute you and we knew we couldn't let that happen again so we went in with the mindset that we had to go in this game of wanna ask you about that because fans like like the folks that i talked to her every day we get. We get hung up on what happened last year and and and wonder often whether it carries over but coach stage said the exact same thing i mean. How do you eighty psychological here transfer. How do you transfer that bad feeling into you does it. Does it affect the way you practice. Prepare because you're you're supposed to be dealing with the techniques of it. I mean motion is part of football. But i'm really curious how that affects you as a player so one We had a video from last year where they showed beauvoir sidelines. I think kelvin. Joseph have made a good tap on the sideline and then they were getting Hype and they showed are sidelined. Dolphins was obvious on the bench or whatever and we were just sitting. There are cheering or nothing. You know he showed us that video in it. Obviously practice a lot harder throughout the week.

It's been been a good couple years for sure. Yeah before we get to the song. I hear you are guy that went to appalachian state you grew up in north carolina. And you followed your dream and to say you struck. Gold would be an understatement. And i know it's a great question to have to answer which is like to to be where you are with some of the biggest hits in recent national history. But how do you compartmentalize it. How does it. How do you process it. I don't know if i ever do. You know. I just tried to take it day by day and and you know be thankful as i can and try to give back as much as humanly possible you know. I didn't play guitar until ten years ago. I'm thirty one years old now. I was about a junior at appalachian state going into my senior year. When i picked the guitar up and had been singing. My whole life and just Man i got real lucky I got real real lucky man that that people liked what i was doing and Once i figured out what it was that i wanted to do man it was just. This is really getting to be pretty crazy. Yeah i think it was. You know obviously your first number one is is a huge deal bessant they say the hardest one get the second one you know And after that second one happened. BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Houston Considered Top Candidates for Big 12 Expansion

"A report out this afternoon at Ucf could be headed to the big twelve. I know you're there to do the game. Let that potentially could really have a lot of the effects especially with texas and oklahoma. What what do you make out of that report. That has ucf byu let me. I'm trying to remember. Who else is in that. Cincinnati and houston in that. Yeah lucky me. You just rattled off one powerful independent byu a couple of group of five schools cincinnati. A lot of people think for a playoff spot this year because the schedule and then. Ucs tonight pot. You know gus malzahn. Well i spoke with him yesterday. As part of our coaches call. And it's no secret. Malzahn took this job because he was one a good fit for him but to hey knows that. Ucf is on the verge getting out of that group of five corridor and getting into power. Five football dan stand that the the winds are change. You're going to happen every year. We talked playoff expansion to twelve teams which would benefit. Ucf gus malzahn cincinnati. Luke fickle until. I'm not surprised in the least bit that. Ucf is coveted spot wide. Because it's the state of florida smack down to the central their orlando. There's a lot of talent this team who's is gonna feel tonight has a ton of talent. And so look it's it makes sense if you're in the big twelve and you just lost taxes and you just lost oklahoma. We're going to sit here and say that you're going to replace those brands with cincinnati. Ucf byu in houston but you do get a couple of teams that together can stop that bleeding just enough to still compete and steal it. Pretty competitive conference

"Was the athletic director at vanderbilt candice story lee when she issued a public statement which we shared with you earlier which brought this to light for. The first time. I am deeply troubled that some of our student athlete. Parents were subjected to racist slurs. During last night's game this is. This is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful behavior and such hateful. Language has no place anywhere in our society to the family members who were impacted. Please know that you have my full support. So i was taught as a young journalist never to to make assumptions. Let me finish with john cone statement. We joined vanderbilt in declaring such behaviour unacceptable and indirect conflict with evaluating both institutions and our fan base. How Covid Will Affect Sports This Fall

"One of the things that's on everybody's mind is the travel outlook for this fall. And really what we're talking about. We could be facing as soon as the olympics but all the way in to the fall football season so we're going to get a little expertise on that in the in the form of matt trout. Who joins us from. Sports travel magazine. You could check out a great article. He's got out there on sports magazine dot com talking about the latest sports at cove. Nineteen and really what everybody's trying to do. When it comes to opening stadiums to full capacity and matt. This is an interesting conversation and appreciate your joining the show. Sarah and i on. Spain and fitz have talked a lot about the olympics and some of the challenges. They're facing now is even japan. They're they're not sure that the olympics are safe so as you look at what every single league is trying to do to put forth the effort to put fans in stands. How confident are you at this. Point that we're gonna face what feels like a normal fall. I'm fairly confident. I think An thanks jason. Of course obviously for beyond. But i am fairly confident that we're going to be seen full stadiums In college football pro football all the pro spa sports by the fall. Especially you know you look at major league baseball. And and opening day Obviously the attention on texas rangers having a capacity crowd but everybody did have some restricted level of capacity. And you look at it now. And there's gonna be i think it's close to twenty teams by the fourth of july. That will be having their standing there. Stadium open at one hundred percent capacity. And i think when you go into the fall of the olympics obviously is a totally different animal because of the situation in japan. But i really believe that in this in college football season whether you're watching an sec. Game or pat close game or a group of five game that you're going to be seeing Stands that there might be one or two sections that are socially distanced but for the most part. I think you're gonna see everybody back to what it was. Almost in in in many ways a pre pandemic. Oh set up

I haven't called in a while, but I wanted to just get a couple of two cents in on your poll here for the really good. Tweeter. By the way. Yeah. Yeah. It's I haven't had time much to do much of it, but I have to say within a show almost every day for five years, the best caller without question to turn the radio on is to Jerome from Birmingham. He's good. I mean he just brings brings it every time he calls and the worst caller, I have to kind of say, like everybody else does just because he brags about himself is, is the guy Jim from Tuscaloosa. I mean that guy I don't know. Wait takes his meds. You could kind of tell when he's on the meds. He's okay with the call. And then there are other days, he didn't take the meds and, you know, he can hate on any money money right about everything off his game. You do not like him. I mean, I would put him Bianchi. Probably in the same room as the worst callers. I mean, Bianchi with central Florida. I couldn't take you know, I can't take it. You know, they should be in the SEC. They weren't everything national champions, that, I mean, I was just so him in, Jim or the worst. And if I do the best guess you have they'll Paul every time is in my opinion is Danny Sheridan. "Westwood the the operators restaurant. We don't know that name yet, we're sort of open it up for this. We've got a good first class of people that want to put a restaurant in my daughter said dad, I give you a place to pitch how it was in. The house on the beach for the last five years. So hopefully it'd be a little bit sports related with the Gators, but, but also open to football fans college football fans. Anybody that wants hopefully, a good restaurant would you, would you help design the, the menu or your res. Now, the menu will come from whatever operator, we choose to partner radically. So I'm I'm not deep in this thing you know, I'll have my name on it. Obviously, we wanted to be very successful. And we need to hire a successful restaurant with the strong manager head got random thing, and we planned out the bed a year from now. Okay in June of twenty twenty well, you know, co coaches go, Nick Sabin runs a Mercedes dealership. Why can't you be a restaurant tour? Yeah. It's not hard to be sort of the guy just drop in every now and then and say, Hello, the people, and I'm looking forward saying this, they sending us Bill successfully. By the way before it was. We'll see. We'll see and Hoover, but, you know, I in Hoover, the conversation will be about a myriad of subjects, but a huge look ahead and I realized, you know, these players pretty well having just scouted them. And, and at least some of the ones coming out, what do you see any, you see the SEC being any different this year? Or do you think the favorites will hold the form? Yeah. That could get questioned right there, Paul. Hopefully, our gator skin. Get passed Bill dogs and several other teams. Gosh, too. It's early it's only seems to be the top two although Georgia and Alabama had certainly been at the last several years, but there's always hope there's always hope maybe, we'll have some new teams in Atlanta and then go from there. But yeah, Dan going does a super job here and the Gators were fired up. They're ready to go as everyone else at this time, but yeah, we're looking forward playing Miami. August twenty third a game. Exactly big one. I think for both schools, you bet. Well, coach. Congratulations on the restaurant. Look forward to seeing you in Hoover. And hope you'll come back soon. Okay. Expel, I should have you got coach coach. It's not like he was late to hit his shot. He was. Okay, I'll be right there. Guys. Got you gotta get off phone. You're listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Let's check in with Chris in Alabama. Hey, Chris, go right ahead. Yangpu. Hey, they're as good to see or talk to you. It's been a minute. I've tried to get in your guys has been really good to me. Of course we've run out of time. Thank you. I'm glad you made it. Yeah. May tell you it's, it's almost like it's a hold Trump. "And I just put out this tweet a moment ago with the SEC facing Michigan and the college World Series finals friendly challenge in my good friend, Jim Harbaugh, if you m wins, I'll wear a Charles Woodson, there's some significance to that. If you live. In big orange country. Jersey to one of your practices. If in win the vandy boys when you become an SEC water carrier for a day. So we just put this tweet out a minute ago, and I've been doing to beginning of the show. I have we heard from coach Harbaugh Mark, Danny anything, any news from Ann Arbor. No nothing yet nothing yet from coach. Okay. Well, I mean, you, do you know how difficult it would be for a Tennessee graduate to head to Michigan wearing a Charles Woodson jersey anyway, we've got the two water jugs, right here, by the table. In case it listen, I'm an optimist. And I think being the competitive person that Jim Harbaugh is he will respond. I mean, this is not stupid. We're not bidding helmets or hats or. You know, a product of Nashville country music album versus some export of Michigan. By the way, does Michigan have an export? Danny your smart guy. Marcus smart guy, do they have anything in, in Ann Arbor, to that's, that's a suburb of Detroit is dead. Have anything up there that I would want or you would want. I'll just going to say eighty fourth round draft picks, but kid rock album kid rock albums. But I found out actually Harbaugh's actually trying to respond. He's on Twitter. Desperate searching for Pete finebaum right now. Right. Well, listen. I I don't really first of all, I don't have to worry about going up there. Vanderbilt going to win probably wrap this thing up in two games or the best team in in baseball Michigan's good. I'm I've been a fan and the, the Vanderbilt Michigan. Access is pretty pretty pretty strong. But I hope he responds. I think it'd be great for, for sports to have Jim Harbaugh have some fun for once in his life anyway. "The is the Paul finebaum show. Best of podcast. Very good afternoon. We have made it to another week, the last full week of June a lot going on, and we will get started immediately. If not sooner. Yeah. As we were wrapping up on Friday afternoon, this drop ironically, after everyone had gone home for the day, US feud here, dismissing wide receiver Holloman after an incident that had occurred more than a year. Earlier, bringing a lot of questions to just when did you know, and, and what made their decision final Friday night for guardless. They are without their best wide receiver heading into the nineteen season. Meanwhile, it's very sad news to pass along Gary Pinkel who stepped down at Missouri. A couple of years ago due to cancer had apparently beaten the cancer. And now we learn sadly, that the cancer has reoccurred. We certainly are thinking of coach in his family at this very difficult time. Meanwhile this. Came up on our program about scheduling, we put up a chart that showed it wasn't easy for Alabama to schedule. But they still had one of the worst, if not worse, schedule in the country, that tweet got a lot of play, and Greg Byrne, the athletic director, something unusual. Maybe not too wise. He responded on Twitter, cease alert wrote about it yesterday in his column and I understand some of the frustration by by eight people they do, get Georgia on the on the conference schedule the next couple of years. The problem is they're non conference schedule. There's no cheeses and Greg Byrne can. Crag back at anyone he wants on Twitter. But all he does is makes the example of their schedule this year even worse. So we'll get into that a little bit. Of course, your phone calls, of course, but tonight at seven pm the college World Series we're down to two teams one from the SEC, of course Vanderbilt and Michigan, one of the last teams to get in, and I was thinking today talking to Danny, and Mark. Do we know anyone at Michigan? Yes, we do. We know Jim Harbaugh. Two years ago called me, Pete finebaum. In this tweet. He said Pete finebaum. The unabashed SEC water carrier really needs to get his facts, straight hash. Mark #alternativefacts but that was a big story. And since then we've still been trying to work out a conversation between the two of us. And I thought you know what we to have a friendly robbery hero. It's ever friendly bet..

I would think somewhere there abouts under right at that say under because I think he's outta there under drew over under two and a half years saving coach over I'm going over. I think that just whistle listening from you ended. No, no. It's not wishful thinking, I I just don't see them dragging him out of Alabama. Like, they did Bobby Bowden at Florida state, and it's going to happen because he's not going to leave. They're going to have to make him leave. He's always been. Hang on to say, you just said you think you'll stay less than two and a half years, and he won't leave on his own. You think Alabama's go fire Nick saving in two years, then they're not gonna have any choice because she sees. Technical you. I mean, you believe they will fire Nick Sabin in the next two years. The guys losing it. I tell you they have a good thunder this year. I mean to tell you I've listened to sports radio my whole life. I've hosted and I like, you you I'm into you know, I like you. And what happened in fact, and I appreciate Dan playing playing that right there. You heard you heard your own Alabama ears. Even though you live in South Carolina or wherever you live. Now. That's exact-. And so you know, that provoked me, but yon the ceiling, and I called, and I said met the guy is a food. He's been a food. But you play along with him for years because he I guess excite some of the pricking idiots. Listen doing I don't know. But I'm glad this happened. Thank you. I'm just saying, no. Yeah. You heard his inability to answer a straight direct question. No. He can't do it. He's gonna last always. He's any good. Bye. Falls? And that's a that's a Terry. Also, I also threw him off his script. Look, you could do this every day, and it would be a good show. And this is what you do you used to do that all the time when Shane that? "The Paul finebaum show podcast. We've been hearing the rhetoric coming from the sunshine state now what about the dogs Seth Emerson has covered Georgia for quite a while. Seth thank you, very very much. I hope you haven't been listening to the show because that means you are subjected to Mike Bianchi, good afternoon. I hope I will. Oh, how do I how do I answer comment on that one? I think I'll leave that alone. Paul. What would I do want to know is the comparisons between Kirby, smart and Mark richt? And and what do they really mean? Yeah. You know this. I think started to occur to people late last season. And then it especially came out after Georgia lost a Texas as kind of this counter to the narrative of Kirby smart building. This powerhouse national championship is is inevitable. Where people rightly pointed out hold on the first three years of Mark richt. And Kirby smart are like eerily similar like down to the records. They won eight in the first year thirteen in the second year eleven in the third year, both of them main differences Kirby was that close to winning national championship the counter to that is that Kirby's or Mark richt did not have any fourteen playoff his second year. So who knows if he gets in there that year? So I built into that. I said all right. These teams were very similar the first three years where are they comparatively? In year four. There was also a lot of into for Mark Rix fourth year at George. I know I was around for that. But you talk to people in just kind of comparing with my own eyes in my own field. But I did talk to David Pollock one of your colleagues there at SEC network in ESPN. I talked Lawrence Smith longtime UGA historian, and there's just a sense that they are a bunch of things that are different now. And that while there I three years kinda throws up the cautionary note about Kirby smart that they are a lot of things in place right now. A lot of them do things that curb smarts doing that make people think this will really be different. It is he is going to be able to do Mark richt. Couldn't quite do. Shit. It'd be before we get to deep. Can we clear something up because Bianchi Fain shock when talking about Mark Ricks dismissal Georgia, but it wasn't surprising. He he had run run. His course, and it was a tough decision. I don't think it was easy. Having won nine games. People always talk about ten win season. But he was fired believe after the ninth win, right? And what went into that decision? I mean, it wasn't a close. Call. I don't think it was if you go back to that two thousand fifteen season the decision was made for sure after they lost a Florida. If you remember they won their last four games to go to nine and three and people were wondering after they beat Georgia Tech to finish nine and three one four in a row as Margaret saved his job. He would quickly like go the next morning. So it was obvious that the powerbrokers kinda made the decision after the Florida game. And then in the lead up to that they that terrible month of October in two thousand fifteen started with that loss to Alabama where both teams run beaten or actually may have had one loss that point. I'm not sure. But there was a sense that Georgia had Alabama home Georgia this year, and then Alabama came in here and waxed them and that started at the floor game kind of finished it. Yeah there. There was a sense that things had just run. Its course that. I think the other thing was curvy smart was very much in the mix for the South Carolina job after Steve Spurrier stepped down and a lot of people around here did not want to let their guy Kirby..

"Great to have you on mitch's in South Carolina. Hello Mitch good afternoon today. All right. Thank you. I'm a Clemson fan. But I wanna say quick break. So everybody until somebody dethrones Nick Sabin heat to best. What do you what do you? Call dethroning. Women more championships than he had got it. Well, let's not always the final arbiter. I agree. I mean right now crimson is is is free pin to benefit we right now, we have the number one recruiting class for nineteen for two thousand twenty. And death death. We're all the closest success started was per. Yeah. And and as more coaches start learning to recruit that way, other coaches are going to have more success too. So I mean Darrow his coaches staff general something with the proofs and. Makes them happy. When they come. Death to me. I think is the bottom line is keeping football fun. Will also keep the team number one. Good hear from you mid sank, you very very much change Tabakoff coming up here in a few minutes. He's created quite a stir today. This is gene. Putting out a tweet saying plan on going on finebaum to discuss this. If my house is still standing by then boarding up. Now, the show definitely has a reputation. One thing also has a reputation for is that we will treat our guests fairly. It's up to you to determine what fairly is. We'll be right back. You're listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Okay. We're back g step Cup joining us show jeans Elissa gather for the Charleston paper that we have shown tweeted out. And now, let's bring him on Jean. Thanks much. We've we've got a kick out of your tweets today. Everything's still. Okay. It's your house. We a lot of angry folks out there. Good afternoon so far. But there's a mild assembling out on the street. I just wanted to say. I just want to say I've been a big fan of yours since you were one of the best investigative sports journalists in the country, and I'm a big fan of you on this gig to at least so far today would Jane. Thank you. Listen. No. That means a lot to me. It's it's a part of my life that I barely remember. So it it it's a it's extremely meaningful that at least one other person does. But that I do appreciate it. Well, let's talk about it and listener fun. I'm I'm interested to begin with other than ju- geographically, I realized where you are putting these together because the SEC in the ACC list, I think would be a little more self explanatory. But man, you have created some issues by by putting all these gentlemen together on one. I've done this for three or four years, Paul. And because my my my duty here with the Charleston post incur is I pretty much go to South Carolina game or Clemson game every other week, and we've got the SEC ACC just kinda cutting through the state and all kinds of you know, divisions. So it just seems good for our state. It wouldn't necessarily work in North Carolina, Mississippi, but it works in South Carolina. Now, I understand I did I I've done this before. So I don't want to act like I don't know anything about it. Although I don't know. I haven't done it lately. But when you inputting list together, I I am especially interested in your your your thought process because anyone can look at the last score between two schools in determine the winner and figure out where somewhat, you know, putting the ranking there, but but I I'm assuming that there's a lot more to this than that take us through the process. Okay. My criteria is basically like, you know, proven success where what the coaches done wherever he's been. There's definitely some relativity here. For instance. It's obviously harder to win at Wake Forest. That's why I got a lot of respect the what Dave Clawson has done. Even though it doesn't really get up on the national meter, then what's going on. What have you done for me lately? And the last part would be what's the bible bright now and the potential that's going on there. So let's start at the beginning. This is there are a lot of controversial aspects of this list. Which to me is great. It's what Alicia would be it shouldn't be just a pro forma list of what everyone already knows determining between, Davos Sweeney and Nick Sabin. We know savings resume that's self explanatory. We hear it every single day on this program..

"To the Paul finebaum show podcast male. Herald is up next in Lexington herald, welcome to the show. Good afternoon. Already. Paul. We were doing great. Thank you. Okay. My my thing is I like to get your comments on the game Saturday. I am a great UK fan for first and foremost, but this year's team gave me some some scares the beginning with the Alabama loss and everything and in the sea and other your alma mater. They're giving me some some reservations as well to to this team. So I hope we win of love to see us win. But just want to get your thoughts. Yeah. Listen, I think this game is entirely on Tennessee. I think Kentucky is played. So well lately that if they lose it's it's it's it's a disappointment. But they have a chance to see Tennessee again. And and they very likely will. So for Tennessee. I think it's all about momentum. And. And the psychological movement forward. And I think we heard from John Adams earlier that there's not there isn't negatively. But there's just uncertainty a little bit from team that was steam rolling down the track. So that's where I think this game is I think Tennessee, I still have a may of my mind yet because I was so sold on Tennessee two weeks ago going nuts. Not in not in the game at Lexington. I didn't think they'd win there. But I thought they would they would lose that and come back and win now. Now, I'm starting to to waiver. So I'm not concerned about Kentucky, though, is what I'm trying to tell you. Let's see. I'm just the opposite of you on your family. I'm not all with the consecutive. You know, I was scared that they would they would lose here in Lexington. And also losing a Knoxville. So, you know, I'm just I'm glad we won. But this game scares me. This game really does scare. Let's it should. I mean, you're playing you're playing in Knoxville against a team that's been number one the majority of the season. But all I'm saying is it's it's a great event. Can't wait to watch it. But it's not going to determine a dictate Kentucky season. It could help define Tennessee's though is my my ultimate point. Preston is up next in Tuscaloosa press in go right ahead. All I. Stone anything, but Johnny. Why yet if that abandoned it football? I don't and I'll tell you what. "I I love the kid. I listen, it's hard for me. You know, my when I come on during football season. You know, I love to poke at Tennessee people. I I mean when you grow up on the Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida. That's what you did. And I have most of my life hated all things Tennissee. But you can't I can't hate this Tennessee team. I think Admiral Scofield is an awesome player to watch. Grant williams. Drives you crazy. But how can you dislike the kid how hard he plays? You know? I like Rick Barnes, generally speaking as a coach, I think this is this is exactly if you're Tennessee. If you're the fans of Tennessee football should recognize you all have sub for so long. And it has it been what you've wanted get behind this basketball team like when? The SEC tournament is in Nashville, you know, this. It's seventy percent Kentucky fans it shouldn't be like that this year. This Tennessee team is historically good and their fans should put their football daydreams to the side a second and really embrace this basketball group a likable group that can win a national championship. I suspect they will. But we'll find out that they'll here's the thing. They can win a national James even bath call all they win the national championship in football in my lifetime. Again. So enjoyed live to win one in basketball. That sounds like Twitter bay right there. Let's not Twitter bait it's true. I mean, look they're basketball program is so much farther along right now than their football program, and I and their fans really should embrace it. They have good basketball history to begin with, but this football. But I mean, this this team is legit this team. I think they are the most consistent good team all season Duke when they're when dukes role when they're better. But besides that Tennessee's the best team in the country. By the way, we had Brandon Adams from dog nation on and he sends his best to you, Matt. I've noticed y'all been playing this up for like the last week every time I would walk by restaurant. I see my face on TV because you're playing a creek clip right for you brought dog nation on. "This is the Paul finebaum show. Our to podcast. We welcome. You back here on Monday afternoon. Let's go to Ryan in Pennsylvania. Ryan good afternoon. Gear fan transplant it up here in Pennsylvania. And I wanted to get your perspective on something just to see what you think. Now, do you think with Molin being now, let me preface this by saying I always thought that whenever Maya left? I thought eighty Foley should opened up the checkbook to Bobby stoops. But that never came to fruition. I never understood the bus champ hiring. I never understood the mcelwain hiring the Natta mullah's dare. And he understands the pulse in the vibe of Florida. Do you think with the next to recruiting classes he gets in there and get his own personnel and their player wise that balance of power will tilt more toward four other than Georgia to challenge Alabama from the east? Ryan, I think Dan Mullen will enhance an increase Florida's role and position. But to me, I think it's a tall order right now to overcome Georgia from a recruiting base. I mean, Jordan in the last three years has recruited almost equal to Alabama. If you if you average it out and Florida's nowhere near that. Right now. Okay. Yeah. 'cause I just always, you know, it's been a long ten years, you know, since the urban Meyer heydays, and I I always thought maybe. But, but I I mean, I don't think from a recruiting standpoint, the two schools are really that close at the moment. Okay. Do you think that maybe Molin can tap into southern Florida to take away players from the Miami area or tapping? Listen, I Oregon, but but I think I think it is a challenge because I need to see how this recruiting class ends, right? They are doing well. But they're coming from way back in the pack. Listen, I it doesn't you can change it. You can change your position pretty quickly with with a dynamic quarterback or or certain other positions. And I think he he is he is certainly increasing Florida's position. But I think two three yourself Florida could be at that at that level. But but but I in less something goes haywire in Georgia. I I don't see anything stopping at least the recruiting train of Kirby smart. Well, they take I'ma being I'm certainly not being pessimistic. I'm just being realistic. Thank you very much for the call Dennis in Orlando. Dennis go, right ahead. Hey, paul. How are you? We're doing. Well. Thank you to to piggyback off of Ryan. I I've watched I've watched the Gators. I've been a fan of them as far back as Charley Pell and aside from a couple winning seasons. You know, Steve Spurrier winning the national championship urban Meyer urban Meyer that was a gift from Ron because Ron brought all those kids in urban dinner..

You McCall, man. Thank you. I'll wonder you allow those scumbags to call and talk to you like they do. Well, because I to me I'm just no more than a conduit to a talk show. I I don't think I'm, you know, it's not like, I'm, you know, second or third in line to the presidency here. I'm just talk show and people can speak any way they want. There's no there's no right or wrong way to do it. I there may be a right or wrong way. But I'm not going to legislate from this perch. Oh, you don't call down them. And and that got thinking GM he told what he come out of a solemn. Sometimes he talks to you. Well, he's he's a little different. He Jim I forget what I just said Jim does have presidential immunity. He can say whatever he wants without fear or favor. Well, he he's eight ten folks to the president. I think he is. Yeah. He's about believe he's isn't Jim in the in the in the. Trump. Yeah. He he I think he's related to Jared Kushner. My marriage. They've been up by direct one more thing is or to save and find all these coaches fall. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. But I mean, can you imagine Nixon wouldn't you like to be sitting with saving? He's got this chart of people that he could possibly higher and all these things are crossed out. He goes. And he finally goes I've hired they got four times. I can't bring them back again. What you agreed at great players. Make great coaches. Yes. I do believe that very much. Okay. Paul. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. John Jillian show. Well, I appreciate what you said to Mr Chris is in Atlanta. Hello, chris. How're you, sir? Mr finebaum. I just want to follow up with the gentleman just called a compliment you on your patience and professionalism in Colorado. The knuckleheads that call you the absolute Bulger comment. Furthermore, I've been looking and listening to you for years. I'm a first-time caller. And you're one of the foremost. Logical analysts that I listened to. I really appreciate and respect. The fact that you have the intelligence the wait until something to develop before you comment on it as many of the so-called professional analysts, but days and weeks and months try to predict and speculate just talk time on the air about what might happen before even occurs and some of it he's he's even offensive especially at the professional level, trade talks. But getting back to college in my opinion, you want the most knowledgeable people about college football at especially the SEC. And I would appreciate it. The callers with stick to calling in and commenting about sports. And not having bog or personal attacks on you. Because you are as I say one of the most professional and intelligent analyst that I listened to and I'm old school. So I require that lose my patience with all this speculation before anything happens. I'm a Georgia BULLDOGS fan, and I just won't your opinion. All the guys thinking, Georgia's go reload and be as good a better than they've been in the last couple of years, I've been looking at their personnel lost both the seniors graduating b juniors leaving class baked cat for the pros applying for of the pro draft and the transfers I played football Pascual junior college. And as I say, I'm old school. It was a physical game. Then they're throwing the ball around so much. It's almost like the kids plan, PlayStation. I understand it spanned four inch aided, and you know, you can see the game in the spread out. But as I say, I'm old school. I'm Nick Sabin kinda guy, you know, get down. That's getting the for yards and a cloud of dust and tests, the man's manhood and see who Ciaran for quarter don't leave along. I wanna thank Jalen. Hurry, again, his opportunity and the second thing I'd like you to comment on is have you ever seen a quarterbacking?.
