"No know mad. You're probably doing the right thing as the fed chair. If you're making both extremes at the party's man but i was also thinking a think. President biden listens to that wing of the party. And here's the progressive dance. He starts moving. He's looking right now. And he's looking to cut deals with progressives. Because if you are going to be turning down the size of that three and a half trillion dollars plan you are going to have to throw some chits their way from time to time. And that's the one thing that i started thinking through. You may win some battles. You're going to have to give up on others and you know a couple of days ago. We started talking about this. If you are looking for the progressives to suck it up and vote on the bipartisan infrastructure. Deal i what are you going to give progressives that they're looking for this just happens to be something that is coming up and coming down the pike and i wondered about that. The one thing i'll say is if you looked at the snp financials yesterday. They dropped back down. Even though yields were rising and you would anticipate that would be good news. For the financials. It was that tough. Talk coming from elizabeth warren about regulating the banks and by the way. Even if they do do. Renominate jay powell. The vice chair position is also and they'll probably be looking for somebody who is a little more strict in terms of regulating. The financials to put in that position so that that could be why you saw the financials come back down. We should also point out. They ran up for four days away on the leading into this. And we're sitting at all time highs so it could be that too but there's some tough talk about regulation. The banks financials might very well be. Considering that united giving update on the status of the company's vaccine mandate filipo joins us right now with more and fill. There are almost six hundred employees who have not gone along with that today too are set to be fired yes they they will be fired over the course of the next several days once. They do the paperwork and everything goes through. Here's an update. On where united stands with the vaccination mandate remember. They set this policy back in august. Then they finally said look. It's going to have to happen. By the end of september ninety seven percent complied they get vaccinated at least one chapter a few who still need to get the second shot. Approximately two thousand who were seeking a medical or religious exemption. Those cases will play out over the next couple of weeks. We'll talk about that in a bit. And then you've got five hundred and ninety three thousand of the sixty seven thousand employees so roughly a little over a little under one percent who will be fired let go from the company. United is seeking or united. Should say i should say no expected impact on its operations because of the vaccination deadline passing and those employees being let go the company. Also as i mentioned they've got about two thousand employees seeking a religious or a medical exemption. There's a lawsuit that will play out over the next couple of weeks by october. Fifteenth united expects that to be finished in some fashion and they'll have to proceed in terms of giving them either a medical leave or a personal leave. Those policies have already been outlined all the employees with regard to the five hundred ninety. Three who were let go in an employees memo ceo. Scott kirby along with president bret hart wrote for the for less than one percent of people who decided not to get vaccinated. We'll unfortunately begin the process of separation from the airline per our policy. This was an incredibly difficult decision but keeping are keeping our team safe has always been our first priority that you take a look. At shares of united remember they will be deciding the vaccination exemption cases those exception cases. That will happen over the next couple of weeks likely by october. Fifteenth guys back to you. Hey fill it strikes me that you kind of covered the gamut in terms of companies responses to these things yesterday you were with us with the ford ceo and his position was we can't make people take the vaccine because it's really something that needs to be negotiated with the union. Obviously united has unions too but they came out on on this end of it. What is that a difference in the language that they have with their respective unit unions or is that just a difference in interpretation to matter of negotiation and it depends on the company becky with regard to the airline unions. Those discussions were taking place for some time because there is so much interaction between the pilots the flight attendants and the crews that are here at the airports with the public. Those conversations started much earlier than perhaps other companies in other industries and so they did work out that policy with all of their unions and early and they had a lot of bienne. I think when they announced this policy something like seventy five or eighty percent of the pilots and flight attendants were already vaccinated. So they didn't have to go as far with those workers as compared to other companies in other industries may have to when they say look. We need to talk about some type of a vaccine mandate. Yeah it's interesting. You make the point that they have so many of their employees dealing face to face with the public on a daily basis to which makes a difference. Thanks a lot. "Of trails public and private lands jeep trails sport trails dirt bike trails mountain bike trails and information on each like actually posted from the people who were there. Say like this is coors not cooler. Avoid this one or do it this way. Here's a camp Here's where the gas stations are nearby all of that stuff so that's really cool and you can even download the maps. So if you don't have phone service you can actually see them. Which is a massive advantage. So i highly recommend on x. Maps dot com fantastic and again subscribe to racer x magazine Yeah you'll see things in there that you'll never read online like. What did you just work on. That was pretty cool. Yeah just last week finished a loretta story. But not necessarily about beretta's like this year but more specifically like what we had this brief time really now if you really think about it we're like oh you just signed rcn stew at eight years old. And they'll just beat everybody all the time until the day they retire and it was okay. That's just what you do and it continually is not working out like villapando pretty much. Did it really tell me more. Tell me more. Oh yeah yes exactly. Okay filipo didn't beat less team green. But he was like really good and then he stayed with the brand and then he won a lot of titles for them and now it's like what is going on. Why are we ending. Up with levi kitchen and justin cooper and lawrence who had not even heard of for years ago never as like the guys and whereas all these superstars. So i really get into. I wanna thank right holiday team green and also a toddler keith. Td and i talked to them specifically. But i talked to a ton of people about this topic over the last couple years. What is going on. So that's in the magazine you can read it online but you have to pay for the subscription to be able to. It'll be out weaker. Some and i just finished a really cool. Us open of supercross history. That will be putting on the magazine and online so you take a look at that thing yet which is a little busy. Okay all right which is why you got the drop. You gave me one week to interview brighton before you and i didn't get it done. Well i gave you. Some people don't seem to care about britain on this call but others face text. yup. I did felt good. Felt like flipping off. We'll hawn felt felt good like that. Same same kind of deal. All right four fifties ally tone. That gets an overhaul win. I never thought i would say this. But it took ten rounds to one for the overall dylan. Verandas one to ally in that second moto. When he was behind cooper web page he was basically like get out of my way. I have to go. "Old geeks a weekly talk. Show hosted by brian. Chiu meister and jason phillip discussing the finer points of what went wrong on the internet. And who's to blame the grumpy old gigs jason to filipo. And i'm here with my special guest erik hunley. How're you doing doing good eric doing good. This might be a little rusty show. I've been gone for a week. Maybe i i've gotta work being grumpy last time. I heard that wasn't grumpy enough. I thought you're pretty grumpy. But you can ease into it. You can ease into it so get a little follow up. Brian has made it to toronto and should be back next week. And i'm sure he'll be grumpy with the cross country move or multi-country move which is enough to make anybody grumpy. But i do have a little follow up on the last episode i got i got a few emails saying that. I was a misogynistic pig. Dog mo fo for calling this influencer. Who was who got cova was going around with no mass getting people. I know sick. And i called her Face well nothing. Like say in the c word to piss off a bunch of american everybody everybody else around the world because we we do have a very international audience. They're like what's the big deal. I'm like i don't know are saying isn't that just ain't hello exactly exactly so The story just kept going with this check and it was. It was worse than i even thought so she was asymptomatic. She got a positive test but was dramatic and ended up just living life like normal. No mask going out then. I see on her instagram stories. What's she doing that day. Oshii is delivering uber. Each and post mates all day. Typhoid fuck and mary lovely. Yeah isn't that great. Don't you just love how we went through a year and a half of all this bullshit just for influencers to go out there and say doesn't matter to me. I'm special good lord no matter where you fall on it if you have something. Stay the fuck home. Yeah i mean she she just just had the flu and stayed at home but nest please. Now let's drive around west hollywood and give away food to people coming on it so i'm sure. The driver the cameraman enter her influence sidekick. Were all very happy to have that in the car on times. Yeah no kidding. Good lord if they got it. I'm sure they did or they already had it. Who knows all these people have added a million times already. Share the love Definitely inver news. We always talk on the show about how nobody ever gets fined for anything and nobody does ever go to jail. We know that that's a that's a given in fines of usually been you know coffee budget for about four hours. For most of these companies well the eu has hit amazon with one four eight hundred and eighty seven million dollars. That's not chump change. No that's like a company party. Yeah exactly you know the balloon budget for the year but now. This is the biggest. Gdp are fine so far of course they're going to appeal it and probably get knocked down to like twelve bucks but at least at least they're trying they're trying over there. I have mixed feelings about some of the stuff. I i'm wondering if gdp are things like that may force a change because yeah that that fine obviously get hit the bottom line but if they keep hammering you know it It won't even be a thousand cuts. Let's say they get one hundred of those fines I guarantee they'll start paying attention. Yeah we're going to start talking real money. You know every little bit counts every little bit counts. I think we need more. Well we've got another one here francis. Crackdown on google's ad tech for a two hundred and sixty million dollar fine so yeah okay Think that was the Let's see here. Yeah this was their basically you know more. Gdp our ad tech stuff This was from the french the other one. the other one was actually in luxembourg. Because that's where amazon has their headquarters but this one's coming from the french so you know these things are adding up there. Adding to this shoe came back. Yup and she came back one hundred ninety four million dollars exactly so maybe third round. It'll be a billion i. That's what i'm saying that they're going to change if they keep getting their door. Not yeah the thing is though. Are they actually paying up. Because as we saw with some of the uber stuff here in california they basically got. It knocked down to a parking ticket. So it's are guys are really really going to end up paying it if they start having to pay out on these. That's when the change is going to happen. It's europe though in california. That's true that's true. We're just too damn hippies over here so my fingers crossed my fingers crossed But we do have another one so this is a zoom one remember. Zoom was saying at the beginning of the pandemic and everything was end to end encrypted. And we're all good and turns out. They weren't yeah. Yeah well they got slapped on the wrist for eighty five million dollars so that's not that's that's more in line what we see here in the states you know sure. I don't know what their bottom line is. Because god knows their market share has gone up so much. Oh cove it alone there. I mean multi-multibillion-dollar company so it's like this coffee coffee mate irritating though is really the incentives on all of these companies is to just do it. Yeah this is a little bit of a cost of doing business marie. Everybody's ready to penny or two. Thank you very much. Yeah that's it we end up paying for it. Obviously but always that's part of it. We end up paying for it so so we might not want to wish to ill upon them but it would be nice if they did change their tune every now and again so i mean that's okay. We got three two good fines in a may find so far last week. So if something. It's something sidetracked. What are your thoughts on. What apple is doing with the iphone and about the story later. I'm talking about right now. Where they're saying. Hey they're tracking you..

"Seventy one who gave us a five star rating and apparently knows us and wants to tease us with that knowledge without letting us know who he is. All right move. We gotta read this one. Because we'll get the rest you can go to the show for the rest from barrett and tapper ninety nine but this one is important because this is a dick move. Go ahead brian. All right look. I live back in ninety seven. My cynicism grew while yours only seems to have festered. Brian's leaving for another country like i did gave me great. hope that he might develop a level of callousness. The show should definitely have not to mention any names here. We are doing a good job with that but certain other co hosts could learn something and fleet lunatic asylum after all these years and see that there is indeed no reason to hold back anymore seriously. Shouldn't it should filler attack dog and in my you know look i have. I have lots of things that keep people out. But i have nothing to keep out any or to protect anymore. So i've sparked nuys again. "Grumpy old geeks a weekly talk. Show hosted by brian. Chiu meister and jason filipo discussing the finer points of what went wrong on the internet. And who's to blame. Geeks jason to filipo and bryan sir brian. We've got a one star review over at apple. Podcast from jalala lay right. It said didn't give it a chance. I wouldn't take this review too seriously. I had the show eight minutes. I have this show eight minutes. Okay good for you and there were too. Many political jabs was looking for a tech show not another political show and i'm guessing that he was talking about is talking about vaccines who was a technical issue on the last episode because we were talking about facebook and disinformation right. Yep okay and. I'm also i'm i'm so done arguing that there is no distinction. Between tech and politics. These days at third. There's nine there's there's not lately. Okay so i'm gonna have a language disclaimer here because i am going to say some words that i just. I know that i will so. I'm just going to tell you right. Now that they are going to be words that are going to offend some snowflakes. So someday we'll have a clean show. No we're never gonna have a clean show especially not right now. 'cause i'm going to tell you about a dumb fucking count influence her. I got it out of the way. I just gave you. I gave you the disclaimer gutted. Out of the way so in my in my spheres here in los angeles i have run into. I share the same orbit as it were with influencers. I'm sorry not not the good influencers like you know i see. Are there any honest. Neil degrasse tyson. I knew you're going to say that. That was the name i was thinking anyway. Hey george mind meld. Meld so This dumb fucking influence there who is shy of seven million followers Got a cova test a pr test. Not one of the run of the mill. Pcr test last week and the results came in on friday and So we found out yes positive positive for covert nineteen public. Figure doing her thing out in about shaking her astner little titties everywhere being influence her and we found out that she felt a little off eight days before that before. She got the pc our test so that was at least eight days before she got a result. So since then little county mic cut a lot has been out doing shows. Doing live live Meet and greet Checking out homes a basically being everywhere. That one shouldn't be living in a hotel and not disclosing the fact that she has covered nineteen positive to anyone or wearing a mask. So you want you wanna hear how pissed off i am. This is how pissed off. I am because i also found out yesterday that one of my best friends in the world is a co nineteen long hauler and has been having a shit ton of issues. So you know this chicken killing people could because people irreparable harm and doesn't give a fuck about what she's doing so yes. I am pissed off at the world right now. Brian and county mkhonta. Lot can go shoot yourself. In the county mic cut a lot face. That's all i care about. Well look we're never going to get out of this i. I'm very saddened about it. this is not the america that i grew up in but apparently the american dream now is it's all about me and i'm going to do whatever i want and to hell with everyone else We have no sense of civic responsibility anymore. that's just gone. The hell that can you get likes from civic responsibility. I guess not no. You see you can't you can't you can get likes from wearing a flag as underwear and coughing your cove nineteen breath all over the people that are taking the pictures for you and putting on your makeup these days. That's that's the way you do it. It's sad it's really sad It's just it's we're not going to get out of this and the numbers are going up and You know it's not even just the numbers. I mean even anecdotally. I've talked to a couple of friends and one of my friends told me that like everybody. She knows his vaccinated. But everybody's getting it You know obviously they're not gonna act like credibly ill but we still don't even know the science on on this. We don't know if the vaccine is gonna stop a lot of these long haul effects that people are starting to see. There's now worries about increased risk of alzheimer's. There's worried that the mental degradation is occurring. If you've had coveted what. I would argue. That might be there. Pre-coded no no no no the population not being vaccinated yet. But you know people who have had have even had it got it after. They had no fault of their own. Were completely careful. Yep do have mental degradation issues from the long haul effects which is why. I'm so fucking pissed off now. I'm intensely worried about that. Obviously i have a child. Who's too young to get vaccinated on i am. I can't leave the country. If i get a positive test at this point and i'm leaving the country in in a week and a half I i don't trust anyone And now it's not a case of not trusting anyone. Even the people i trust through no fault again like we said the delta very it is so is so viral that through people through no fault of their own people. I trust implicitly people. I know who are doing the right. Things can get. It can still get sick. Because there's all these people running around not giving a goddamn fuck about anyone. I i just done with this. I'm done i'm done. I'm so thrilled to canada. Not that there aren't anti vaccine de jason nocco. There aren't anti vaxxers in canada. Canada's vaccination rate has skyrocketed past the us now and the people that are refusing to take it and the people that are demonstrating in the streets are treated the way they should be treated like menaces fucking society remember the aids as if you actually knew you had aids had sex with somebody. They would treat you for charged with attempted murder. If you spit on somebody even if you had aids they would add charged with attempted murder. Let's let all of the fucking potheads out of prison. Input in the fucking anti vaxxers. Look we never would've. We'd still have smallpox. If this fucking new american attitude was still existent was in existence back then. This is ridiculous. I'm so i've read a couple articles about it and here we are. We're going on and on about something that isn't technically tech but it is because we might all die and then there won't be i started does influencers almost seven million followers. This person has and is out there telling everybody it's okay i'm done. I'm just over. The and i think everybody that has done. The right thing is now just getting fucking pissed. Everybody's best. I mean everybody's best so yeah there. It is so little follow up for next week. That will be no show next week because you are traveling. You're maybe maybe If i if. I pick up a if pick up the coast somewhere. I'm not going anywhere so we'll see yet but yes theoretically that that'll be it so yeah an i need some time to settle in and get all my stuff there and god damn it. I'm just so jason it's one it's already enough just to be packing up your entire house with your kid and everything and moving to a different country and i'm just depressed constantly because we see the wave coming again and i can't believe were here six months they're giving you can walk into a dairy queen and get vaccinated in this country completely free and we can't get it done. I know i know anyways. That's move onto other things that are and i'm taking the week off because it's my fiftieth birthday weekend. I said fuck it. I don't care. I'm glad to have week for me. Go party without influencer. Well the thing it no. I'm staying the hell at home. And i'm going to read books and enjoy myself because you know this is the last. This is the last one you know it's like you look at all the different milestones as you grow older and fifty is really the only one that anybody cares about. I'm not making it to one hundred. "Shoot come back to me right. I would almost go with my same high point team. Marvin filipo negative one. I got ac at a four all star. I think bill's still has a bunch of value. And bobo still five. I you know he could make a case that vogel's that first guy after the eleven amandine you know so vogel those twelve twelve thirteen thirteen to five to get some nice points out of him if not maybe heart ramped at a nine. He's he could be a fifteen fifteen sixteen seventeen guys so I would say that would be my guys for a lock. I think i would fill as well again. He should be better and his handicap still pretty high. Okay yeah yeah but ryan who who can you. Who's who are you picking that you can pick. Because that's where i'm struggling to i would love to. I don't know. I'll figure that on saturday I would say bill dylan all-star at a one I would think about craig again. Like i said about heart. Ramps i would consider heart raft for sure. jeremy hand. I feel have some value there. I just he's not a quitter and we know that's what outdoors is all about. So even if he goes twenty two twenty two to fifteen. That's decent but that it gets super unpredictable. Like we talked about the god-like freddie freddie donate some pretty good. I have to look at his points for the year and see how he's been doing but seventeen sixteen the last race fifteen thirteen fourteen before that so at an eight. That's not not too scary. I enjoyed my experience last week. I had a what was his handicap. That one's probably pretty good. Yeah yeah he did all right eight last week and he didn't crush it what he did. Okay i enjoyed the experience of just slowly moving up you know throughout the race and and being strong at the end and you know. I enjoyed that. Freddie is good at red bud member when he is heard yeah and he had a bike issue. All right paul well we gotta go back to you for your lock. Oh my lock is going to be nicoletti And my four will be nicoletti. Craig jeremy hand and Rankles this is this is an outrage new all star..

Lordstown Motors Says It Doesn't Have Cash to Start Commercial Production

"Money. Checkout lordstown motors dropping sharply today after the company issued a stark warning about its future. Let's get to filipo with the details. Hi phil what's going on. You know this is a no report from lordstown motors. That is not an incomplete surprise given the fact that the company on friday was told by the nasdaq. Look you've got to file a ten q. You haven't done it if you don't file one. We may d list you well. They filed the ten q today including a going concern. Notice and in that. Going concern the outline. What the problem is. It's all about cash. And we've known this for some time that they have very little cash they were looking for some strategic investors possibly some infusion of cash the company saying the company believes that its current level of cash and cash equivalents are not sufficient to fund commercial scale production and the launch the sale of such vehicles. We're talking about the first pickup truck which is scheduled to go into production by the end of the third quarter. That is the endurance pickup truck. But as you take a look at shares of lordstown again losing about thirty percent courtney. Just today the real question becomes. They don't have the cash right now. They don't find a strategic investor. They don't come up with some way to get a big infusion of cash as quickly as possible will they even make it to production by the end of the third quarter curious to see what happens over the next couple of weeks so filled this sort of like you said at the beginning of your report just confirmation previously what they basically told us when they reported their earnings they didn't official official capacity and ten cute right right but anytime you say were questioning whether or not we can be a going concern that really that's ultimately if you're an investor you'd sit there and say going to keep my money in these guys because there's a decent chance that the may not be around three months six months from now

"That's why I'm going to be here for you this week this month into the future to make sure we keep the guard rails on this Justin Fields conversation like, Don't get us wrong. We're not gonna be yelling. Hey, Anyone who doesn't agree with us? It's gonna end poorly for you or or or this And that and hey, do you want to go get a margarita? Run away. What did I say that, but she did. That's a shot. The point is on the opposite thing like Well, I always used the dating comparison if you've had bad luck with women or long term relationships, But you had you had a really good first date. You're still excited. If you go in thinking that it's going to turn out poorly. It's not going to be good for you. So I think all Bears fan should be happy so far with the first date and let's see where the hell this relationship goes. I'm with you on that, Like I say we do. You just have to keep the lid on the top end of that excitement so that you don't go out telling the masses that this was the biggest day for our country since the moon landing, right? And so that that's all I'm guarding against, And so we're gonna We're gonna keep the reality's own intact and I think there's a fund reality zone here. With Justin Fields because, like I say, you look At the tape, and you see the star potential. And you see immediately that this is not Mr Biscuit that this is a guy that has skills in his tool box that will allow him to make more plays that are designed for him and more plays that aren't designed for him. And I promised the city of Chicago that there will be many. Many more plays made by Justin Feels And there were an extra 50. And that's a positive step in the right here. This is an entirely different scenario than the one that unfolded in 2000 and 17. For a number of reasons. Here's my question. Now, Dan with regard $100 bills. You just went to the A. T. M and you took out like A bunch of them. Why don't you put a number on it? But a bunch of them and you got a place? This bet. Are you confident putting your money on Matt Nagy getting the most out of Justin fields going forward? Is this match going to produce? Ah, lot of solid returns more so than what the last marriage between coaching quarterback produced. I don't think you could be confident in that, Tommy. I think you can. You can take a wait and see approach and say Matt had a say in bringing Justin Fields here to Chicago, and he feels very strongly. He's got a developmental plan that will help him, you know, sort of navigate the early stages of the orientation to the NFL and then hopefully take him to a spring war that vault his career to the next level. But what we saw with Mr Boesky followed by what we saw with Nick Foles raised legitimate questions on math ability to Connect with his quarterbacks in a way that produces high level results on game days, and that's what this is all about. And so this is now, sort of this. This the spotlight shifts. Through Matt Meggie, and it becomes a major test of who he is as a quarterback Rumor quarterback developer and I know they feel strongly in Lake Forest about the entirety of that coaching staff of John de Filipo as the position coach, getting his hands on his chance to put his fingerprints on Justin Field still laser being part of that process and and as a group They feel very confident in themselves. But from what we've seen to this point, I think it's only fair to take that wait and see approach to and then we start to see some things on the field that tell you Okay, This is a different story. Now. Let's take some calls for Dan. If you have a question, 3123323776 this is your chance to ask Dan Wieder a bear's question. If you have one from draft weekend, I've got one about who he thinks is going to start on opening day. If you were to bet now I've got one on is the Charles Leno Move. Ah, good thing here for everyone with Kevin Jenkins, starting at left tackle, will continue the conversation with Dan. Next, You're Listeningto Waddle in silver on ESPN 1000, Chicago's home for Sports. Carmen in your go Carlos for dons our guests. Hey, Thanks for having me. Did you kind of feel like you were in a group and something good could happen. You never anticipate no hitter. But did you feel good before the game getting on the mound warming up in the bullpen? I was cutting off fastball this pit, But what am I doing? You tell it's been a little while. 10 days you used to five I just lost that release point that feel my hand and I was like cutting off fast will be pissed And I just said screw it, And we just went out there night only stabbing them. Did you miss the interview?.

"Today as they wrap up the Syriza with Cleveland. I'm getting tired of seeing exactly sack. There's a third time the white taxi a chance of getting tired of being on the run up on meet him the first time they beat him up bad the first time a second time he pitched pretty well. It'll be Giolito who needs to step his game up. Although we won. They came the second one. I think so. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. The Bears won the draft. I guess I'm not a big greater but I know our next guest. Unfortunately, they usually ask him a J. D. We need grades. You've got a great how you think the Bears did. So we bring in Jeff Passan, or maybe pass fail. That'd be easier. Wouldn't wouldn't you have passed fail would be a lot easier than a B c or D That's like my college transcript right? There was credit. No credit. Gonna see they get the credit Go. Here's the good news, guys. Great to be with you on this beautiful Sunday here. They don't really ask us to give grades anymore. Good, which I think that kind of realized that, you know, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense because as Either as excited as a fan base might be the Sunday after the draft or as down and dejected. You just don't know for sure. But I'll tell you guys and you guys know this. I mean, the mood in town has changed so dramatically. From Thursday before the draft, and now I think the Bears had the right vision here. If they had to get the quarterback being resolved, they could not go into the season with just Dalton. Nick Foles and some nondescript third string quarterback. They had to do what they did, and not only that they get Justin Fields who potentially could be a star. They get Kevin Jenkins and round number two that they had. First round grade on and a lot of teams thought, you know, could be a first round talent, their offensive tackle, I would say right tackle, but Ryan Pace and Matt now you left that open last night. Then he could play either left or right, so we will see. So I think the plan Right now on paper looks really good. But now they have to execute it and guys to have to develop the quarterback something this franchise has never done. So, JD. How excited can we be without getting our you know, just being crestfallen if it doesn't happen, and you know how excited should we allow ourselves be at this point? I would. I would never tell someone not to be excited. I mean, that's such a down in the dumps type mentality, I think. Look, this is why I think you can feel good about the Justin Fields. Pick is because the guy was a star player. One of the best programs in the country, Playing against the best competition in the land, and in the big Games. The guy came up huge. I mean, I didn't dream this did I mean 63 touchdown passes to nine interceptions in two years at Ohio State? This isn't true Biscuit and I hate to bring up Mitch because it's really not a day to be. You know, chicken Mitch down or anything, but when you look at the college resonate, I'm a big college resume guy. I feel like if you play great football at great programs against great competition more times than not, that will follow you into the NFL. Robiskie only started one year in North Carolina. He sat the bench he had a very good year. Don't get me wrong. It's for North Carolina. At Ohio State, and, you know, he lost the Sun Bowl to Stanford, which wasn't his fault. But in played great. Justin feels his resume is completely different. So I would say that if you feel excited That's great. You should feel excited. But I do think that there has to be a little bit of that other guy sitting on your other shoulder saying, Look again. The plan looks great. Can they execute it? And can they get this quarterback playing the way? That he needs to play. That's the one caveat is, you know, in 70, plus years, they've never taken a guy like Justin Fields and turned him in a toy perennial Pro Bowl quarterback. If they could do that, the Bears were in great shape. We're hearing a lot of the well, you don't matter that he was in Kansas City, and he saw Patrick Mahomes come in, and they knew he knows exactly how they trade him. Is there anything to that? Or is that just a way to spit off? What what could or maybe should happen? Well, I think you can't discount the fact that I mean Nagy was part of a very successful system and Kansas City in Philadelphia. And he did work with a lot of great quarterback just the homes for that year, but also Alex Smith and Donovan McNabb. And I mean so. He was around and you read. I think that helps. Think now, though, And I think that nag you be the first to tell you this. I think he is relishing the idea of proving a lot of people wrong. I think everyone knows the offense has not been very good and it starts at the top. And when you're the head coach and you run the offense, of course you're going to take the blame. When it goes south. You're gonna take the credit when it goes. Goes the right way. I think he really is feeling. Um, eager to get this right on and I don't think they're going to start Justin Fields right away. I don't believe that. I think the plan is for adults play. Until Justin Fields is just so superior that they have no choice but to make that move. So I think Fred, it helps. But it doesn't mean that it's gonna automatically work again. I think Get the look at this it with an open mind here. I do think, though, and I'll say this guy's Bars quarterbacks going. I've never said this. I think there's a lot more to be excited about with the quarterback than there is to be apprehensive about. I really think there's a lot to work with with Justin feels that they could just If they can get this right? This guy has a chance to be a star here. So Win troop risky got thrown in. It's because Glennon as I remember, was just really stinking it up. Now we have Dalton and fools. Do you envision a knish you to where those two are not playing? Well, we have to throw fields in before we really should because I think that that could be a mistake with and that's what they want to avoid. They they want to avoid what happened in 2017. I mean, You go back to that that time and Travis he had to play. I mean, I was sitting there in Tampa even a game before they pulled Glennon and I was just yelling in the press box probably inappropriately. Like they got to get this guy out of here. I mean, he's terrible. I mean, he was terrible. It was terrible in training camp. He was terrible in the regular season. I don't believe Andy Dalton is a terrible quarterback. Don't get me wrong. No, he is not the franchise quarterback. He is not the quarterback of the future. Clearly, I believe there's a better chance that he plays at a service of a level. For a longer period of time that Mike Glennon did. They don't want fields. They have to play right away. If you're not ready. Do they go into the season with those quarterbacks is full. Still gonna be here? They're talking Fred. Like he's going to be here. Now. The money is interesting because they do have a lot of money. Committed at at that position, and Justin Fields is going to get a nice signing bonus of the 11th overall pick and Dalton's making 10 Million, you know, could make 13. But I doubt that. Get those incentives and then falls is under contract for some good money the way they have spoken about the quarterback room. They have included full guys in every every Every reference they make and falls is part of this, You know, plan they have in place where they've got Holes. They've got Dalton. You know, they've got all the former quarterbacks on the staff have got Maggie that got Bill Laser that got Jackie Filipo..

Carson Wentz would prefer to leave Philadelphia Eagles, but team is not looking to trade him, per report

"This is the saga that we've been covering forever right carson. Wentz coming off terrible year. You know that he got benched. You'll see all the numbers and it was just awful but when they made the choice to fire the coach and bring in frank. Reich's assistant nick serianni. We figured well at the end of that is coming back in philly. Adam schefter yesterday said maybe not so fast wants. Leave the franchise. That's why the trade still employ. This is a real and this was made up and just because he would like to be moved doesn't mean he will be if i had to guess i would guess he is traded. That'd be my guess. Okay at some point this off season but again. they're not just going to train them just. They're not looking to get rid of him. They're not shefty. I shefty speech. The world listens and dan. Orlovsky we've not had you on this yet today. What is your reaction to this idea that it seems at least from the outside like the eagles have probably done just about everything he might have wanted and he still wants out agree with them. Schefter i think carson wentz wants away from philadelphia for a long time. People thought well he wants away. From doug peterson i think he wants to wait from the city. I think he wants away. From the organization. Greenie do speak so loudly. I need not hear what you say. And we live in a time frame and society where it's the easiest time ever to make some form of statement and carson had two opportunities to do that his first head coach in the. Nfl was fired. He had the opportunity to post something on twitter. Post something on instagram. Saying you're my. I said coach ever in the nfl while it didn't work out the way we wanted to for the long run. I'm forever thankful for our time together. Well then we move on and they hire a head coach. Nick serianni another opportunity to make some form of statement some form of. I'm looking forward to the future. New new beginnings fresh start excited to work with you and nothing for those two reasons. I'm sitting back and going carson. Wentz doesn't want to be in philadelphia. Maybe it wasn't as tight to doug peterson and it is tied to the organization and what has transpired over the past couple of weeks past couple of months. I can tell you this. I had a coach call me last week and spend twenty minutes on the phone with me asking about what my thoughts were with carson. Wentz the good and the bad why. It went south this past season because they've got a high level of interest in them and i think two teams. That should be calling our indy in chicago. Both of them have a win. Now defenses and both of them have some form of a tie in the past with carson wentz being frank reich and indian john d. filipo in chicago so i agree with this Shefty i think it's more likely. He gets traded than not.

"Wednesday morning, America's first news continues on the 13th day of January. A F and sports and we have a match up for the ages this weekend literally. Drew Brees takes the field for the Saints on Sunday, two days after turning 42. He goes up against the 43 year old that Tom Brady, who's Who's We don't know when he's going to retire a defenseman Hill joining us. Hey, man, how are you this morning? Good morning, Matt. Yeah, this is this is a matchup that I think people have been kind of clamoring for as far as a postseason match up. For for a really, really long time. And I think the hope was always that it was gonna be a Super Bowl matchup between the Patriots and the Saints. But We never really got that match up, but we are finally going to get it. In the postseason, even though they've matched up with each other twice in the regular season earlier this year because of their own in the area. Excuse me, They're in the same division. But, yeah, we're finally going to get Brady and Brees in the postseason. Finally, after all these years, and it should be a fun one this weekend. Yeah, definitely in the fact that they went back and forth over the season here for records. I mean, it'll be incredible. The second time since at least 1950. The NFL's top two players and career passing will meet in the playoffs. S. So what do you expecting from this game? Manny? We know Bree's probably has the Better weapons if you will, But we know Tom Brady's got old reliable in Gronkowski, and he's got some weapons to all. Definitely. I think both of these quarterbacks are pretty pretty equipped Toc put some points on the board with We look at the receivers and they're running backs and you know both. Both offensive lines are really solid than you know. Both both have a lot of weapons and both defense is I think have been Pretty good. All your the Saints have one of the best defensive units in the entire league and the Buccaneers defense on paper has been very highly touted. Probably not quite We haven't lived up quite too. What? What it says on paper for them, but they've been a pretty solid unit. And but I think you look at both of these quarterbacks. You have to anticipate some points being put on the board. You know Tampa Bay going into this game, The Saints won both regular season meetings. Met in week one at the Superdome in the scenes one and then they met a few weeks later in Tampa Bay, and the Saints completely dominated that game. It was probably Brady's worth worst game of the season. And so you know, the Buccaneers are sort of going into this match up with a chip on their shoulder. You know, looking to try and prove something that they can beat the same thing that they can't hang with them. And I think You know Tom Brady's been through this so many times, you know, in so many years of going on playoff run, so you have to think that even though a lot of these Buccaneer players have not Been at this level before and as far as the postseason is concerned. I have a feeling guys like Brady and guys like drunk. Even a guy like him dominance to on the on the other side of the ball will be able to have the rest of the younger guys ready to go. Doug Peterson lost his job after he left the Eagles to after he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl just three years ago. Um 40 to 37 1 in five seasons. To division championships three playoff appearances was this warranted? Oh, man that Zahar question to answer because you know you, you you win a Super Bowl. You typically don't think about coaches getting fired just a couple of years after winning a Super Bowl, especially When it's the first Super Bowl in the history of your franchise. Um, but I think when you look at what went down with the Eagles, this season's obviously a very disappointing season at 44 11 and one Carson Wentz. There there Proclaimed franchise quarterback guy that they gave a huge contract to has really, really regressed. I mean, this guy Matt was playing at N. V P level in 2017 before he got hurt. Nick Foles took over and then they Went on to win the Super Bowl that year. But Carson Wentz really, ever since then, has just not quite been able to match that performance. He you know, he played a little bit better in 2018. But really, ever since then, he just hasn't been able to get back to that. M v p level of 2017. Dealing with some injuries and then this year was just wasn't even injuries. It was just regression. He just did not play well at all. And I think when you look at the way things have gone for the Eagles over the last couple of years where you lose coordinators, and this is kind of what happens right when you win a Super Bowl. Lot of times your assistant coaches get highly touted. They go on to have other jobs well. In that 2017 Eagles team that won the Super Bowl. Frank Reich was their offensive coordinator Jon De Filipo was the quarterbacks coach and both of those guys moved on after the season they got they got jobs, and Frank Reich, of course, became the head coach of the Colts, and he's done a great job there. "Another mindset that i like is to ask yourself rigorous ruthlessly with every execution. Does this whatever this is this ad. This press release this webinar this this new product. Whatever this is does this materially multiply our chances of achieving the outcome we want does this component of our plan our execution materially multiply our chances of achieving the outcome. We want from this marketing activity. And if it doesn't shave doggy down. Why are we doing it now. I also know that <hes>. Marketing gets pushed around a lot. We're one of the functions in a business that gets more help than most others because everybody thinks they're a fucking marketing expert and so of course. The ceo has an opinion and the head of sales as it opinion often. The head of arnie or engineering or product has an opinion <hes>. The cfo sometimes as everybody has an opinion. And sometimes we end up <hes>. Marketing can end up feeling like a service bureau doing shit to make people happy. Be very careful about this. On one hand keeping some folks happy might not be a dumb thing on the other hand. This is a slippery slope. Most marketers are doing too much shave. The dog shave that dougie down practice getting everything out. Consider getting even more radical one of my friends and mentors a legend in silicon valley named rick bennett <hes>. He was the one of the original ad guys ad. Copy guys for. Larry ellison as well for <hes>. Mark bank and many others. He is known in silicon valley as the marketing assassin that entrepreneurs and marketers turn to when they wanna make a legendary outcome happen and he is a very interesting perspective. And i'm paraphrasing him. he's been on. Follow your different. And i'm hoping to have him back on lock on marketing soon. But he's a very interesting perspective he says. I want to treat my clients dollars like their their last dollars. And they're hiring me to run an ad. Can i create one ad. That makes this business. Go with one ad. Could it be the tipping point for success for the company. And you may argue. That isn't possible. maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. I think rick would argue. It is but what i do know is. It's a great mindset. Imagine we were going to do one thing and one thing only and the entire future success of the company hinged on that one thing if that was true. Here's what i know we as marketers. We would focus fucking hard on making that one thing legendary and so adopt this mindset. You probably can't make forty th forty-seven legendary but you could make one. Maybe two maybe three maybe five or six but be ruthless <hes>. I'd also encourage you for inspiration. There's a company that i have <hes>. A fallen in love with lately called thousand helmets and their pioneering. A new category of fashionable functional about obviously a highly capable helmets. Eh focused more on the mobility. The new emerging mobility market and less on the traditional biking market. Anyway check out a thousand helmets website. It's tight super tight. You could tell they shaved that dougie down. It's simple powerful clear compelling and differentiated. This is what we're looking for. Simple powerful and different is hard often as marketers. Not only do we do too much. We say too much that is to say we agree to too much internally from our people from other folks etc and i would occur. You remember every yes comes with a massive time energy creativity and financial cost. Everything we agree to do comes at a focus cost. That is to say we're moving focus from one area to another practice saying no practice saying no shave the dog get it down. Simple tight shave that complexity is the enemy of revenue and on our next episode. We're going to dig into a marketing execution. Called the multiplier effect. How we take the small number of things we're gonna do and use each one of them. Multiply the value of the next

Deeper Digs in Rock: BONES UK

"Called bones. Uk This was one of those Love at first sight type of things for me one note and I was hooked. Okay I literally was in love. So who are these immensely proper quiet and suitably charming young ladies from the British Isles? Yeah there anything but that bones. Uk is a two piece from Camden town. A suburb of London and consists of an in-your-face Rosie bones. On Lead Vox and Rhythm Guitar and the very impressive and chill Carmen Vandenberg on Lead Guitar. They work very closely with producer. Filipo Giamatti to create a fresh rock. Sound on record but at the same time these two fine sirens can do it live. I formed in two thousand fourteen when Rosie Mett Carmen and instantly had a connection. They put some stuff together and literally believe it or not had Jeff Beck show up at their second GIG. Whereafter seeing them. Ask them to help write his two thousand sixteen album loudhailer and then invited them on the American tour. I'm just not sure you can possibly find a better endorsement than that Very very tail. Except when you realize separately Rosen Carmen had been working Added for years before all this came to pass just goes to show you. You just gotTa find that Special Chemistry but if that is not enough. They were nominated for best rock performance at this year's grammy though they lost to Gary Clark junior so I got to speak to both of them while on tour opening for corn and I gotta say they are both charming intelligent sexy and fun as their tunes. I love it when the act matches the music and data is what you get with bones. Uk. They just released an unplugged. Ep with some of the songs you'll find on their twenty nineteen upon US album. But what I dig about that is if you need more than Jeff Beck telling you this showing they do have some impressive musical chops and therefore Given a chance these these ladies should go really far well if rock and roll still matters that is I. I know it does to you and I can. They make a big dent in the universe. We shall see in the meantime. Let's get to know them a little and hopefully you will feel the same way about them that I do. Oh One last thing about these two from Camden town. There's a whole mythology being created here. They have a very personal authentic thing. They take their ideas and not just from songs but all that would go along with it. the imagery the videos Their interaction with fans Just how they comport themselves Very real but at the same time it it is it is

"Now tesla is about two billion dollars away from being worth GM and Ford their market market caps combined. Now let's not enterprise value. That's a different story entirely. But in terms of purely market gap tesla is almost worth. GM and Ford Combined Finally Finally Argus Research the latest go out with a new note today raising its price. Target for Tesla this target five hundred and fifty six dollars. Brian and those numbers on market CAP filler staggering. But you know I think you know this and I know this and our audience probably noses but it bears repeating is that the reason that exis- this is even though GM sales or what six or seven times that of Tesla so is their debt load debt ways down the market cap so it's not a pure. Here's a reflection of of Tesla's value that you've got to sort of subtract all the debt at Ford and GM have and that's why people always say look at the enterprise value you because if you look at an enterprise value. Ford is more valuable than General Motors. And I don't know the exact numbers I I WANNA say like one hundred and thirty two hundred thirty four billion and then you've got all the way down at like eighty eight eighty nine billion somewhere like that But that has been appointed alday might send told he's been talking about this nonetheless I think we're getting to the point Brian where five hundred share is not only a possibility but could happen relatively soon and remember remember when Eline Musk's contract was redone and his compensation package people said you know if he ever gets to a market cap of one hundred billion dollars. I can't remember exactly what his compensation is. But it's a big payday that's not too far fetched. They're only what fourteen billion billion away from that. We want Dennis Muilenburg to focus on getting the Max back in service that is that is the main job really the only job that matters right now for him. I'm sure he's doing some other things as well. I mean it's not like he's in a vacuum But the Max is all encompassing right now. Why why is he speaking out now a month? After kind of taking the reins of Boeing. Will I think the narrative got away from them last week. When Dennis Momberg was on Capitol Hill It was a brutal brutal couple of days. I mean you had senators and representatives outright saying you have no business being CEO. You have no business getting the compensation in that you get. If you had any decency you would step down. You would do more than simply say we're working on this. Is Anybody at Boeing taking a cut or working for free to try to rectify this problem. Like the Japanese do congressman. My board conduct a comprehensive review. That so you're saying you're not giving giving up any compensation at all your continue to work and make thirty million dollars a year after this horrific two accidents that caused all these people's relatives took go to disappear to die. You're not taking a cut in pay. It all began. Our board will make those terminate. You're not accountable. Then you're saying the boards accountable. I went in Quebec. And kind of underlying Steve Cohen of Tennessee. In the second day of my Lindbergh's yeah in front of the House. We talked with them afterwards in the hallway. I mean he's disgusted rested instead. I'm disgusted at at this entire situation here and that he is getting paid what he's getting paid. Which is roughly twenty three million dollars last year so it was wild because Representative Cohen was asking question? Are you taking a pay cut. Is Somebody going to take some financial responsibility for this and mullet Bergara sort of during the headlights. Absolutely and You could fault Boeing for not being better prepared for that question. Look I've covered enough of these over the years on Capitol Hill when a CEO goes in front of a committee especially Leanna safety related matter. I mean that is almost a guaranteed question. Look if you would fault Boeing for anything last week. It's the fact that they didn't anticipate that. This question streams coming because they could've nipped in the bud much quicker by having Dennis Muilenburg even in his opening remarks say I understand what's going on. I understand that I shouldn't be getting the compensation or at least all of the compensation That I received last year That would've short-circuited a lot of this discussion. Instead he said Ed That's not for me. That's for the board decide really came off looking very poor for the company and for him to stand by Joe Three to one his mic. It's it's time for our newsmaker. The morning Boeing Chairman Dave Calhoun the Dow component is you know separated at CEO and chairman roles amid the seven thirty seven Max crisis naming. Calhoun Muniz chairman on October eleventh. Relatively quiet since then in terms of on camera interviews this morning. He's speaking out in a squawk box exclusive. Dave joins us now with their own Philibeaux. Oh global headquarters Phil Good Morning. Good Morning Mr Galvin. Who Good Morning Joe? Joe And I know you guys have a number of questions for Dave and Dave. Let's let's begin first off if you and I were talking before you came out here. Big Question right off. The Bat is about the compensation for Dennis Muilenburg. This came up on Capitol Hill. You have some news regarding and how that's going to be changing correct. Yeah I do of course it was sort of obvious to everyone that was uncomfortable question for Dennis. Dennis doesn't like to speak in behalf behalf of board activities anyway. Dennis called me Saturday morning at ten o'clock with the purpose of suggesting that he Not Take any compensation for two thousand nineteen as in the form of bonuses which is of course most of your compensation it

You can now buy Elon Musk’s ‘Not A Flamethrower’ with Bitcoin

"Tesla's CEO Elon Musk saying he is going to buy twenty million dollars worth of Tesla's stock, but even with eons, vote of confidence in the electric vehicle company that stocks traded down about two percent today or Filipo joins us. Now with all the details, Phil. Melissa, this announcement of Elon Musk, buying twenty million dollars worth of newly issued. Tesla's stock came out in an SEC filing this morning. That filing was all about the finalisation of the settlement between the SEC and tesla over the investigation into the go private tweet. This is the latest purchase of Tesla's shares by Elon Musk. In this case, these are going to be newly issued shares. The next time there is an open period for purchasing stock. That's when the purchase will take place that comes just a few months after Elon Musk said that he would be buying twenty four million dollars in stock that was in June in March. He committed to buying almost ten million dollars worth of tesla shares on the open market. And then in March of last year, he said that he would buy twenty five million dollars worth of tesla shares. Elon Musk has been a regular purchaser of Tesla's stock on the open market separate from when he's been awarded, stock options, anger and one of the complaints. From those who have shorted. The stock is that Elon Musk has borrowed against his holdings when he has been recommitting to the company and purchasing more stock unclear where this money is coming from in this case with the twenty million dollars. But if you take a look at shares of tesla, we should note out that we went and looked at periods where Elon Musk has said, I will be buying x. amount of shares. And there have been some moments where the stock is popped and moved a little bit higher that day and then settled down and other times when there's been no reaction. So it's hard to know whether or not people can look at this and say, this will be a trigger for people to say, we'll buy more shares of tesla, Melissa back to you. All right, Bill. Thanks Phil in Chicago. So what could this mean for Tesla's stock? Now, let's recall when some other CEOs bought stock. Remember when Jamie diamond bought five hundred thousand shares of Johnson, and we're on shares February twentieth sixteen that stock rally more than ninety five percents since family known as timid, mention the diamond bottom and don't forget about Wednesday, win that big on his casino stock in December. Two thousand fifteen. This is something that Pete likes referred to a lot then rallying more than fifty four percent six months later. So there'd be upside for tesla here does a signal anything? Are we reading into this this? I mean, I think the main point is that yes, he is bought on almost every equity offerings, even I think when they've done convert offerings, but think about it when the companies issuing new shares dilutive. So he's buying it. He just kind of trying to manage some of his dilution. But ultimately, I think the most important story that we keep hearing rumors about is that this company is going to need to raise capital soon, and that's really the issue how they do it in a what term. So to me, he can buy whatever he wants the stock's not going up until we have, you know, a fixed to two billion dollar capital whole well, they built a, they bought a plot of land and Shanghai to build a new factory there. They will have to raise money probably on Asian markets right for about probably a two billion dollar facility. They're right there only in Asia, not even thinking about the cash needs here in the United States. You can ask a question. What gives a muskrat as must be current courage, courage, and that's in my opinion what you need at this point to get long this. Why do anything head of burnings which is going to be in about a week and a half two weeks from now. I think it's got to recapture the two eighty level which it hasn't done. It didn't gave it right back. So I think you're playing stock market here. Pete, we'll tell you correctly. If you wanna

U.S. Justice Department probes Musk statement on taking Tesla private

"Just when you thought the worst was behind tesla, the Justice department. Now, looking into Elon Musk's tweets about the company Filipo breaking it down from Burlingame Calif. Phil. Yes, Scott, it's unclear how intense this investigation is by the department of Justice as it looks into the tweet that Elon Musk sent out in early August regarding the possibility of taking tesla private. There were some reports earlier in the day that this is a criminal probe. We've been on able to confirm that, but here's what we do know with tesla, confirming that, yes, it has been in touch with the department of Justice. The focus of what the department of Justice is asking questions about is the take private tweet that was sent in early August tesla says, it has sent in documents that were requested by the department of Justice. In a statement, tesla says, we received a voluntary request for documents from the DOJ and we have been cooperating in responding to it. We have not received a subpoena a request for testimony or any other formal process. We respect the DOJ's desire to get information about this and believe that the matter should be quickly resolved as they review the information they have received while it's unclear whether or not this probe is a. Huge issue for tesla and for Elon Musk, it did put shares of tesla under pressure today. Remember tesla is also under an SEC investigation as the SEC looks into the tweet that Elon Musk sent out on August fourth, where he said he was considering taking the company private. That of course, sent shares moving higher. And eventually those shares came back when EON musk and Tesla's board said they would not consider going private
