"Brand new in it for the likes free wire and more but now vw. Volkswagen want to have a go at it. It's called the eon drive booster. It's basically a very large charge. It's like almost like two charges. Put together if you like but as has an integrated battery inside it so a normal power connection when i say normal i mean like fifty kilowatt noel. Charger can be used. And the internal battery is then able to provide a hundred and fifty kilowatts of charge speed to two calls. Simultaneously a normal charging column can therefore be upgraded very easily. So where we've got fifty kilowatt posts all over the world. Because that's what the grid connection has at that place that particular point rather than thinking. Well we can't put foster charges into these locations because we need to get new substations in new hp stuff so then you high voltage stuff. Which is just mega mega mega money. You won't believe how expensive is once you start talking about big amounts of power. Well how often have you signed up to a challenge. And it's been empty. What if the time that. It spent not charging a car is spent recharging. Its internal batteries than a cartoons up and you can dump all of that power into the car as quickly as the car can take it. The car leaves and then from its smaller grid connection. It's recharging that internal battery. It's a plug and play solution for replacing fifty kilowatt charges with jewel hundred fifty s and it's brilliant and voice volume neon have launched as now token. Vw by the way. So much news going on today. They've just commenced construction of their brand new battery factory in heff i in the new province. Vw is the first battery system plant wholly owned by the group in china. Hundred fifty to one hundred eighty thousand battery systems coming out that factory every single year for the chinese made emmy because that's almost that's just like so many sites somewhere between one hundred seventy maybe hundred sixty five thousand. Go a middle point on that. That is an amazing amount of cars hitting the road. Just have one new battery plums located next to the production facility. Volkswagen's carmaking in china and that should be up and running by two thousand twenty three next in the us. Foreign ulta groups are running ad campaigns to oppose the new lodger av tax credits. An organization which is funded by foreign automakers which do sell vehicles in the us has lowest an ad campaign.

"I did ask but no dice on this is what about those side view. Mir's course we talked about that. Samsung camera deal a couple of days. Back unlike the author. I don't think that gives any indication of whether it will or will not have side you mir's of course the prototype does not but as far as i know. Regulations do still require them so in terms of the design if side muser added. That's gonna be a pretty big change to the design and it'll be interesting to see how those fit with these average aesthetic if they are at either way nice to see ilan talking a little bit more about the cyber truck. Hopefully that's a good sign in terms of the timeline. I still don't think we're going to see any production this year but tussles websites still does say trimotor all-wheel-drive production as expected way. Twenty twenty one. St let's talk about supercharging so yawn today replying to tweet about car and driver racing. A bunch of different electric vehicles in one thousand mile race tussle taking the top three slots there but they the old model s. obviously the current model s. What do better charges faster more range. And they also use the performance model three in the model white. Anyway you undecided at the end of this tweet. Also throw in that quote. Super charger network is being upgraded to two hundred fifty kilowatts to three hundred kilowatts. So that will help to and quote. We've speculated about this possibility for actually quite a while there was an earnings call. I don't know a few quarters ago. Now where jerome. Obviously now is left tesla but on one of those calls he had let slip a mention of three hundred fifty kilowatt supercharge. Recently you may remember at the plaid delivery. Event yuan said that they're going to continue to increase the peak charge rates from superchargers. He set up to eighty three hundred and three hundred fifty kilowatts so from ilan today. It sounds like that. Step up to three hundred. Kilowatts is now happening. I was told back in june that new super charging stations were being installed with up to three hundred and fifty kilowatt capacity. So new stations should be able to handle this. I don't know how far back that goes. I don't know if the original v three superchargers were capable of three fifty or three hundred kilowatts. So we'll to wait. And see on that but i think a big portion of them if not all of them should be able to handle this higher rate as for the vehicles who knows that will remain open question but at the end of the day. I'm not sure it's something that anyone should really be too worried about or too concerned about having for their own vehicle if we look at how this might actually impact. The time spent charging for example. Let's look at the plaid model as we know that as the most recent production battery update that we have from tesla and motrin did share some pretty detailed analysis on their experience charging. So we've got good data so they've got that curve there which will come back to you but they also broke the data down into table here. You can see that in the top row. They went from five percents of charged with thirty percents state of charge and six minutes adding twenty four kilowatt hours or about eighty four miles of estimated epa range so most of that section happened at a charge rate of two hundred fifty kilowatts..

"They will still be the rim at company making these amazing supercars like the navarra of which porsche will also be a twenty four percent. Stakeholder volkswagen's soon to decide on the future of their luxury brand begetting oliver blum who's volkswagen's management board member and ceo of porsche said today now porsche is boss. Oliver bloom early vitiates. There were intense discussions. On what the heck do we do with gatty. Well however you say that in german and those discussions were ongoing but at the time earlier this year roommate was described as being a good technological fits adding the decision will be made in the first half of the year. Well whereabout three days away from the first half of the year being over. Watch this space links to electricity. Msn dot com in the show notes. If you'd like to read more that's mega story right because rematch with the best one in the world. They've doubled their workforce over the last few years from five hundred to one thousand you know. They're not the biggest car company in the well. They've launched the navarro. Which is the new name for the sea on the school to only the second vehicle they've made and again those are vehicles which they don't even keep themselves so they don't have you know a fancy showroom in mata he's like well i'm keeping them zero zero one and that's my because they don't have the money they need to sell all of the 'cause they can make keeping any back for themselves to put up you know in a museum so it's still company the is yes making multi million dollar hyper-cars. Yes doing incredible things with technology and not taking any of that white but still a very small company so i would say in this instance Punching above their weight. I don't say if i can be on between you. And i and i probably wouldn't say if i've always in the same room as the boss of vw grape man. I'm just so pleased that vw didn't just get the checkbook out and byron. I'm so pleased that didn't happen because you get the feeling that they've done. Multi has done what he's done with that company because they've been able to and you know being kind as i can be to all mega-corporations they both move slowly and also the people wanna get fired and so then it have as much entrepreneurial spirit you know pete. Nobody speaks so man. I'm pleased that vw. Just die. We'll we'll buy rack and let them run your gatty site. That's let them stand alone. Let them do that thing. But interestingly let them then run beauty because all come are going to have to go. Ev at some point. It's just wendy do it. Like ferrari lamborghini maserati names. That are so linked. The sound of their petrol engines are going to have to go full electric they. It's not in question. So when do they do that when you gase go. All electric and what kind of began gets made with rimec in judge. I would say a really really good one all right. Let's move on. Let's talk about a massive battery. Going live in the uk this to me by listening to fill alan email this to hello at avenues. Daily dot com a new giant battery storage system for recharging vs going live in today. Creating a blueprint for other towns and cities go net zero the fifty megawatts. Our lithium ion battery is directly connected to the uk's high-voltage transmission network which is run by national grid and recent guests of this podcast on saturday. Last week's special was indeed graham cooper from the national grid. Now there is an eight kilometer private wire delivering power from the battery to ev charging locations that gets distributed around the city of oxford including the uk's largest public challenging hub that has up to ten megawatts of power on site that features thirty eight ultra rapid charging stations and fast charging stations delivering the energy to av drivers. Night and day. It's oxford's park and ride and it opens later this year. Fast ned installing ten charges at the hub. They are going to be three hundred. Kilowatts the really fast high-powered charges. So unless you own a audi each. Gt or an ionic. Five or six sleigh off of those ones because your car can charge on a slower one but those cars need the false charges. Matt allen is the ceo of pivot power. The company behind this power is an etf company now and they are doing. I think pivot power that talk about that charging house. They want to build some of the most interesting and also to do with mega battery. Storage projects was interesting. Things thinking outside the box in this country They have led the one million pound government backed scheme and matt said quote. This is the first grid scale battery to directly connect to the transmission network of the uk and represents a key milestone for the completion of the energy super hub in oxford our mission to accelerate the uk to net zero planning forty similar sites around the country and quite goes back now by that parent company. If you wouldn't bet against them. I'll pop linked to fleets europe where i got that story from if you would like to read more about the oxford super hob i'd also edf renewables ownership of pivot. Pal you can find them. Pivot dash power dot co dot uk. Okay let's talk about what they're doing in oxford. The park and ride provides fifty points catering for range. Visa speeds visitors can charge in minutes if they need to stay with their vehicle or going into work for the day or shopping. In the city they can charge on a much slower level to charger. It says a connection to the national grid high voltage network with the hybrid battery storage system as maury vs hit the road. We need more battery storage but more energy generation but also more choice of to charge. And that's a that's a public education job like a little podcast to try and teach people about issues. But you can do that as well as you make. People who may be buying electric car one day or your neighbor bison eva and you know you can have those conversations about how when where and to charge. And if you're leaving your car for hours on end sticky on a seven kilowatt post. And i think i i told you. The story on the podcast. Last week i went to an insult. Georgia may here. Which is fifty kilowatt fast charger and there was a renos zoe on it which was full zoe. So is one of the ccs plug obviously because they panicled plugs. Those instable units. Do i say something to the owner of zoe. Dude you're nine thousand nine percent and you're blocking dc fast charging now. I didn't need the charge because it was local to me if someone was driving through dorset and they needed that charger stuffed. There's a guy nine thousand nine percent left is gone. He was on a night where he was like left the car huge education job. And that's the responsibility so many levels all right moving on. Let's talk about tesla's full. Self-driving beater. I don't talk about it. A lot on this podcast. Because you know. There're people who are big fans of elon musk's promises and there are people.

Last week fifty kilowatt five hundred saturday volkswagen eight kilometer oxford twenty four percent one thousand three hundred graham cooper second vehicle nine thousand nine percent three days today fifty megawatts forty german fifty points seven kilowatt

"Have to mercedes-benz about to unveil any flagship e. s boasting market-leading battery range following through on. Its pledge to compete in the luxury electric vehicle segment with top technology. It's going to be pro fifteenth for the u. s. We'll see a few shots on the outside inside before then but amok milestone for the and brand has been. I think rightfully criticized for being slow on the uptake to bring me to market mercedes making eight full electric cars on three continents says the marcus schaeffer in a phone interview and writing blue bug dot com today the four hundred and thirty five miles or seven hundred kilometers of range from us which will be done again on the european test cycle so maybe slightly less i guess for the the epa in the us will give tesla a bit of a headache because they've dominated the space for range the range of the us would exceed that of the long range muddle s and of course coming soon. We'll have lucid with that at doing. Five hundred and seventeen miles then the model s. plaid plus five hundred and twenty miles. How have you look this whether you want to make this a fight between certain comedy. Because i'm always came to go down the route of of of being the one that pitches these calls against each other. I just think they'll be fans of mercedes fans of high end cars. And i know i upset tesla fans when i say that they're not high end cars other other world's best. Ev engineering. And i think the world's best software. I'll make the argument to Old along the Not the world's best luxury 'cause they're nice places to be inside but the people the augie tesla's luxury cars often find have not been inside luxury and with all respect. They're the people who are spending a hundred and twenty grand on a car right neither am i so i'm not saying that i. I'm buying cars like that. Just saying the people that go all well know mercedes. We've got no challenge. Because tesla goes further. Don't discount the buyers out that who have one hundred one hundred twenty grand to spend on a luxury car. Who by the way who don't think less is more. I know that the philosophy of let's take everything out one screen hoffa steering wheel. There are plenty of people out there who don't think less is more. They think more is more and this mercedes-benz curious which by the way is the electric equivalent of an s class. It needs to be amazing. It needs to be full luxury. It needs to be when that door slams shut with a german thud the only they can. Do you need to feel like you know you spend a million pounds on that kite to sit inside and nba absolutely wild. I think they will. Because i was inside. Or is it the mercedes benz e. qc recently that they're even and even that. Which is that will be a step down to it. S class in terms of luxury. Even that was a really really nice place to be inside again from the perspective. Not the best buy treat tech not the best efficiency and range etc this. Us just needs to compete in terms of the tech side. An if a smash it with the luxury. I think then you know lucid will suddenly have competition and i would say test competition but but really if these s clause buyers had wanted to go electric by now they would have done so they would have bought stuff was a model s. So i don't know. I think he's widens the market. Not cannibalize is the mock-ups so excited about luxury. Cars like this. Not own one on excited about it right next. Comes they fifty kilowatt blade battery. Four hundred one kilometers of course is any dc which they still use kind of you know almost have it interesting side note. I say this on the podcast already china this summer. A moving the wwl. Tcp way of measuring range. Moving away from dc which is long overdue so the the range chinese vehicles give i think from june july will be much more accurate now. The d d. One is another car from daiwa d. And the han alongside the d. one. We'll be more popular. I would say than the you. On pro- the newly renamed it's because the d one is basically a vw golf. I mean i'd vw. "Boss hub dece as joins twitter recently less than two months ago. He's tweeted fifty times. He's got twenty five thousand followers. Not quietly elon. Musk forty eight point three million. Vw's id three has been toned down by ubs in a ted down shows that the full platform that fully electric platform from vw measures up favorably. In terms of the key aspects a deep dive by ubs group analysts found the vw platform called medb. Walls fully cost competitive with any test. That's out that best-in-class energy density and efficiency they say. According to automotive news europe the analysts said the car was the most credible the effort by any legacy also company saif aw. Vw targeting and china with the three because the four is a global. Cobb is coming to the us in addition to gemini vw group. Brian's audi skoda sayeed introducing all of their own vehicles or bikes on that platform as well for the licensing in the platform from vw. Something that i've been talking about for a long time because it is profitable from day one and That has been said many times by management. So i don't have any reason believe that it wouldn't be true when designing it when they were launching it more recently. They've said over and over. Every car we sell is going to be turning a profit. They don't be loss leaders. They got no interest in pumping cars outer a low price. And then working out how to make money later and so such a great thing for other car companies to see vw. doing it. so yeah the two things. I'm most excited about them. Is what we do what. Vw emmy platform the cars that go on it because that is potentially going to have scores of models on one platform and also hyundai who have mentioned that platform for the week. But of course kia are going to use it for all of their future. Evt's all most genesis are gonna use it for their e these and again. It's just a really solid platform to bills cars on next. We'll talk about the chevy bolts. A carbon isn't built on a particularly amazing platform because it charges fifty ish fifty five kilowatt charge speed and it is getting long in the tooth now even though he's been refreshed on the outside and it's got some new seats as well for many though. The bolt is value play and costco heralds the value of the arrival of free samples. If you think about costco and also great deals on everyday items but now that costco getting into the car market. They're offering a promo on the chevy volt. The deal is a chance to lease the bolts for one hundred seven dollars a month. According to one to offer a broader perspective costco's dale brings ten thousand dollars of extra savings over the length of the lease compared to pride deals now for perspective buys chevy themselves are offering eight and a half thousand dollars rebate on both vehicles. You can boost it to eleven thousand with the costco bonus and also zero apia eighty four months if you want to finance it as well so the bolt if what it is it's not winning any awards anymore. It looks okay The you know the the new designed car has now been driven by my my buddies. Ivor inside the driven. The seats assaulted now. The horrific is they were great. Little car sukru. Light is okay Charging speed is pretty woefully. Slow for brand new car coming out now but it's so cheap you know. And it's you know. I think just keeping the bolt and the ball e. v. around for that the bottom end of the market 'cause twenty grind just a lot of money but it's still genuinely two hundred and fifty mile. Ev for not a whole load of money for the next in the news the mustang mac e buyers and are getting their cars when they wanted so four to saying sorry and giving them some benefits mustang mckie custom as experiencing delays so for the providing two hundred and fifty kilowatt hours of complimentary charging on the forward pass charging network. That's two four and a half thousand customers and one and a half thousand of whom have received mac a but of course that's three thousand people still waiting for the delay delay delay. They call it quality issues. They want a fakes Florida providing thousand dollars towards the purchase of mustang. Mac eve one hundred and fifty customers who have experienced more than one delay because of these quality issues. And you know it's nice giving away charging two hundred and fifty kilowatt hours of free charging for many. That's like three three charges. That's not a big a years. Unlimited free challenging is significant three charging stops of of of a reasonable length. I mean i've just a few dollars but really in the monetary value of. That's pretty pretty pool. Mustang maquis buys all over the world. I know are either writing for that car or the ones that have had. I've seen glowing reviews. People are just loving driving that not so much charging at once it gets to eighty percent though. It's it kind of downs tools and goes on go slow next. We'll talk about ford's electric tycoon and accomplish for so long that you assume it sold everywhere but the arrival of the tikannen in australia is almost complete. The porsche deal is down the Getting ready to hand over the car this weekend. Porsche believed to have a hundred tycoon. "Per show and citron. Psa group recorded a great year in two thousand twenty for like electrified models. A hundred and twenty thousand and that's one of the reasons why met they european. Co two targets which my say of us having done at the same time. The french companies total sales slumped twenty seven point eight percents and a covid year as so many bad headlines carmakers put the one bright star has always been electric cars. According to electric the french concrete is planning a merge with fit chrysler and then not trying to merge the name and do some sort of frankenstein's monster kind of thing. No it's could still lantis happen. They try and crowbar in little bits of names and give everyone equal shad but out with the old in with the new sta lantis a falling back on three platforms really They in addition to the already known e. c. m. p. e. v. mp platforms. They are a base developed by it cries lodge electric cars now the moment. Psa offer seventeen electrified models that adding six more this year and some of those cars that have come out. I've been really impressed with things. Like the peugeot e to eight the ds which is call it a citron. It is the ds cross back eight ten very much. The same running gear in the power train underneath many of these calls but sort of tweaked slightly different specs all tweaked slightly different. Some of the vans coming out. Psa vans and big vans as well fifty kilowatt hour battery hundred kilowatt charging all very sensible and ovary available on sale now Which is the key thing with evasive staying in france. The reynaud five electric super mini seven fully. Electric vehicles will be launched in the next four years and one of them was previewed today. You re bone reynaud five also known as liquor in the united states the superman. Es back after being discontinued in nineteen ninety-six as motor one dot com reynaud labels the new five as a prototype concept so although this is that it is coming. The production version will arrive. It's not a kind of crazy design ideas. It's what we're gonna make this car. And here's the prototypes. I won't be wildly different from this. Really distinctive retro styling. There's a red stripe around the windows is the sort of drivers and back windows as it were a not to the hot hatch. Version the running five. Gt back in the night which may hint. as well. modern day evey counterpart could come also hearing that there's plans to bring back through four as well. Details are limited also blogs said viewed from the side the concepts silhouette echoes his predecessors with short front overhanging the c pillar slanted about forty five degrees relatively told vertical lights unmistakable. Not to the The super sink the fives smaller. While the emblem placed on the passenger side of the hatch creates a visual link between the two cars that we didn't expect to find out back. It's inspired by the reynaud five and the grill. The place. the renter logo next to the driver's side headlight. So we're really excited about this. I'm always excited about small cars anyway. I'm excited about anything. That's a use case. I'm really kind of bored by coming out and the car makers trying tick all the boxes which is all well and good. It's nice when they erasing. Vienna carries fourteen people and does not sixty in one second. It'll go million miles an hour for about four thousand miles and it's on the spec. Wars are nice. But i'm just kind of down with it. I'm just a love cars that fit for purpose and use case as well so i like small cheap cars and vans and commercial vehicles going electric so many really exciting things happening happening a few years ago. And so yeah. This is a great example of a car. Which is going to be for everybody. It will hold around probably four maybe five people at a pinch when you have to otherwise it will be used for families doing errands and being renault. It's going to be cheaper. And you know thinking about the cause in the segment. Honda a mini cooper. Se fear five hundred. Roll around thirty grand vega. Be ten grand more expensive than this. This car is is kind of swimming in the same pool is the likes of the persian e. Two eight and the reynoso. Is this going to replace their is zoe 'cause he's going to be in a couple of years time. By which time the as any fifty. It'll be a little bit long in the tooth or will it replace the twin going. Well we'll wait and see whatever happens really excited about reynaud confirming that they're gonna make seven electric cars new ones between now and twenty twenty-five but this is one of the ones that is just it's bags of style and you know what i mentioned this on the inside eve as video podcasts that i do with the guys and you can watch on the inside vs youtube channel. If you haven't seen it yet i do the ivory friday i mentioned to them you know i think that so. Many carmakers have realized they have so much in the heritage that they can play on the startups. Don't have that. So the startups have to come out of the blocks with great technology and name for themselves and they are if you look at the likes of the biggest names tesla obviously arguably still a startup but has been through that process and then you got the others lucid and rivi and countless others in china and so many more as well all starting for standing stone having to create a brand. I think a lot of the the the the comic is that four or five years ago was saying wahl when we choose to make vs. We're going to be We'll show the rest of them. How it's done. We'll look people have been eating their lunch. And i think so. Many have been used by how good some of these startups are. And that's without even the chinese companies coming to western markets. Yeah really and so. What is interesting is how these companies have been around one hundred years or way more in the case of a peugeot and renault looking at the heritage and saying actually we can create some emotion around this. "fifty kilowatt" Discussed on Tesla Daily: Tesla News & Analysis

"Over the last few months there has been information leaking out about Tesla establishing a new battery production line near the Fremont factory, , and it is aptly code-named roadrunner not only does that hint speed, , but there might also be. . A reference there to roadrunner and Wylie coyote the looney tunes characters engaged in a perpetual game of Jason, , in which Miley Coyote could never catch the roadrunner. . Maybe legacy auto is the Wiley Coyote to Tesla's roadrunner. . So one of the expectations for Battery Day is that Tesla unveils this roadrunner production line to demonstrate the potential throughput that can be accomplished with all. . These advancements I believe Ilan made reference to this today as well as tussles other progress in manufacturing outside of batteries. . When he tweeted quote speed running Victorio and real life dot dot dot, , and quote if you're unfamiliar Factoria is a video game described themselves. . By saying quote Factoria was a game in which you build and maintain factories you'll be mining resources researching. . Technologies building infrastructure, , automating production and fighting enemies and quote that you're sounds a lot like. . TUSLA. . So a lot of these are related but I believe manufacturing and energy density at the pack level to be the two most important things for battery day. . But it doesn't just end there. . There are few other topics that may be discussed at Battery Day the first. . which has been heavily speculated on is the possibility of Tesla introducing a million mile battery. . So first things first on that that means a million mile life cycle or another way to say, , that would be the ability for the battery to recharge. . Let's say three or four thousand times without having significant capacity degradation because of already done a full ten fifteen minute episode. . On the Million Mile Battery I'M NOT GONNA go into as much detail on that here a link that episode but the Short version is that they're already batteries capable of producing that many cycles. . It's just a matter as it always is with batteries of the trade offs are willing to make. . For example, , does that increase the life cycle lower energy density or? ? Increased cost, , and if so maybe it's not worth the tradeoff in fact, , Tesla already has batteries that are capable of doing a million miles. . They just don't use them in their vehicles because of those trade offs rather they use them in their energy storage products. . So we'll see what Tesla has to say about a million mile battery they have talked about wanting. To, . , get there with the whole powertrain and the past, , which really makes a lot of sense when you bring in a Tommy because if a scenario exists where there is a full self-driving row taxi that vehicles going to be traveling a lot more than ten thousand or fifteen, thousand , miles per year if the utilization is five times higher or ten times higher. . Then to have a useful life of ten years twenty years, , you're going to need a million mile powertrain including that million mile battery. . It also makes a lot of sense for other utility vehicles such as the upcoming Tesla semi the other wildcard that could potentially add life cycles to the battery for a vehicle would be vehicle to grid technology. . Again, , we've talked about. . Tesla hasn't been super bullish on that technology in the past. . So it's relatively lower on my expectations list there certainly value to that feature, , but there's also complexity in extracting that value. . So we'll wait and see what Tesla has to say on life cycle and any additional features that could drive utilization of those battery packs higher next on the watch list is. . Charging capability there's a lot of potential here. . We've already seen Tesla over the years increase the supercharging rate from ninety kilowatts to one hundred, , twenty kilowatts, , two, , hundred, , and fifty all the way up to two hundred and fifty kilowatts at peak now, , and at the cyber truck unveiling last November onscreen they shut a graphic that showed the charging capability of the cyber. . At. . Two hundred and fifty kilowatts plus you elon musk at that unveiling said quote it will be capable of more than two hundred and fifty kilowatts will reveal the actual number later and quote. . So maybe battery day ends up being that later we know that just last week lucid, , motors announced that the lucid air will have three hundred and fifty kilowatt capable charging Tesla's kinda competitive. . So I'm not sure they're gonNA, , sit around for too long being outmatched on that charging rate. . If we can get a bit speculative for a moment, , one of our listeners, , Florian halen helped me out with this it appears that the V. Three superchargers should be capable. Of . quite a bit more output than the hundred and fifty kilowatt. . Max. . That does vehicles can charge at today to get a full understanding of this, , we have to start with the version two superchargers. . If we look at the label on those chargers, , we can see the voltage listed at four hundred and ten volts. . They amperage listed at two hundred and seventy amps to get the power capacity. . We just multiply the voltage by the amperage. . So in this case that comes out to about one hundred and eleven kilowatts but what happens in reality is that vehicles on version two charges, , one hundred and fifty kilowatts all the time. . So the amperage here is. . Actually understated the same thing appears to be happening with the V. Three superchargers as well on the label for those, , we can see that the voltage is thousand and the amperage is four, , hundred and twenty-five. . So multiplying those together yet Max power capacity of four hundred and twenty five kilowatts. . So that's already higher than the two hundred and fifty kilowatts. . The vehicles can accept today leaving some room for upside and charging rate but back to the amperage, , it appears that the amperage capacity is understated on the be three charges as well. . We have a screen shot here of a model three charging at that Max two hundred and fifty kilowatt rate, , but with. . The voltage only at three hundred, , sixty eight. . So if we divide those two hundred and fifty thousand watts, , two hundred and fifty kilowatts by three hundred, , sixty eight that gives us six, , hundred eighty amps, , which is well above the four hundred twenty, , five amps on the label right now, , a model threes battery is limited to four hundred and four volts. . So at six hundred and eighty amps that would mean a Max charging rate of two, hundred, , , seventy, , five kilowatts instead of the two, , hundred fifty, , that is listed, , but it's probably limited at two hundred and fifty kilowatts to avoid overheating if we consider a new battery though maybe some of those constraints can. . Be removed and the V. Three superchargers seems capable of delivering quite a bit more power than that two hundred, , fifty kilowatts. . If we use the six hundred eighty amps here that we have already seen register out of a supercharged V three location and we multiply that by the maximum a thousand volts we could be looking at a power output of six hundred eighty kilowatts from three charter and potentially even higher based on whatever that true actual limit on ams it's. . So none of this means that Tesla's going to suddenly unveil a battery that's capable of charging at seven hundred kilowatts just that the V. Three chargers do seem to be putting in. . Place. . The infrastructure for higher charging to come over time with a new cell likely being introduced. . Maybe we will hear more about that at battery debt last couple of aspects that I've heard discussed the first mining Tesla has alluded to maybe getting into mining someday if they needed to that's not something that I expect here from Battery Day as should be cleared by this point in time I think they've got enough to go through without going down that figurative rabbit hole but I do expect. . Yulon mosque to again plead with suppliers to ramp up supply especially for nickel next is a point on Tesla suppliers we know that tussle works with Panasonic LG. . L. To source batteries from them. . So the question has arisen of how those partnerships are going to work and evolve if Tesla is designing and manufacturing their own cell and I think this is answered by what we spoke to earlier with product differentiation Tesla is going to need all the batteries they can get their hands on it's going to take time to ramp up their own battery production. . So not only can they not just convert all their products over to their own cells instantly even if they were to do that, , they still probably need even more batteries so they're going to continue to partner with these other suppliers though suppliers give them viable. . Products, , which can help Tesla Grow capture revenue capture prophet regardless of their own endeavors and battery cells and production as far as tesla actually supplying these cells to others I definitely don't expect that not for a long long time if at all, , and that's really for the same reason, , Tesla is gonNA need these cells themselves supplying them to another oem just adds again that extra layer of cost because both sides need their margin that creates a more expensive and a product for the consumer, , which is contradictory to tussles goal of accelerating the advent of sustainable energy. . So as long as Tesla is battery constrained, , which I expect to be for a long time. . See them supplying their batteries to anybody else. . All right. . So after all of this, , we finally come to the product. . The last thing to maybe expect out of Battery Day could be the introduction of the plaid model s and Model X. potentially being the first products to utilize these new battery cells as Tesla works to ramp up that initial production it's been yearly quiet on the plaid. . Powertrain Front for a while now, , but the timing is about right and maybe we will finally again here's something about the new roadster. .

A Song For Peace

"This is the story of a song that is in a way the story of this country in the spring of Nineteen, sixty-nine at a sidewalk cafe on Richmond Street tucked in from the corner of Dizengoff. Street in Tel Aviv a twenty four year old poet named Yakov or Janka wrote Blit met a twenty five year old musician and arranger named yet year Rosenbloom and the two men became friends the cafe was called California and the. Place, itself said something about the people who made a habit of spending their days especially, their long nights there. The first thing to know about Cafe California is what it wasn't just one hundred and twenty five meters up Dizengoff was a legendary Bohemian cafe called carseat. It had been in operation since nineteen, thirty five, and since then it was the place where you can find some of Jewish palestines and then Israel's greatest poets and writers. On Alterman and Lebron's Sean Ski. Lay. Goldberg. Alexander Penn great writers who had been young and who grew old drinking coffee in the afternoon and vodka in Iraq at night at the simple spare tables of cassette alongside these luminaries in the nineteen sixties. New Generation staked claims at the table, the actor or. The singer Oregon Stein the architect Yaakov wreck there and many others cafe California was not seat from its vantage half of long block away even the young people at seat where old carseat was yesterday's Bohemia California was today's Cafe California was founded in one, thousand, nine, hundred, thousand, nine by a man named Ab Netanyahu who was only thirty two. Then that had lived a good deal of life. Netanyahu was born in nineteen twenty seven in the southwest corner of what is now Iran in a place called Abedin on the Persian Gulf just. Across the border from Bosra not far from Kuwait at six he was sent to board at Saint. Mary's a Jesuit School in Mumbai where you had an aunt, his parents abandoned. Persia. For India when he was twelve at sixteen and Nineteen, forty three, he lied about his age and joined the Royal Indo British Air Force in time after he trained to watch the Second World War wind down at twenty one he came to fight in Israel's war of independence and never left taking a job as an El Al pilot when he was decommissioned. It was with a few restless L. Buddies that Netanyahu opened cafe. California soon, it was filled with the city's young wannabe writers, directors and poets the people most eager to knock from their sinecures the city's old writers, directors, and poets who argued and held forth at carseat. Ab Thanh was a magnet for Bohemians and he came alive when he was with Bohemians, their company produced in him at once a sense of satisfaction. He had found his people but also a sense of restlessness eighty, nine ton was in constant search of his next Gig in nineteen sixty five he ran for Knesset advice of a friend who worked in PR he pledged that if he was elected, he would fly to Egypt to meet with General Nasser to seek peace after he failed to win a seat in parliament, he anyway bought a nineteen twenty seven steer. Men by playing that, he named piece one on February twenty, eighth nineteen, sixty six, he took off and flying low to avoid Israeli radars he landed in Port Saieed the Egyptians sent him back the next day Nassar had refused to see him back home a retired David Ben Gurion told reporters that not tons trip was an event of moral and political importance and quote pope. Pious gave him a medal of peace and Robert Kennedy and Bertrand Russell sought out his company not much later the notion took hold of Natanz, that music held the key to altering. Israeli. In the summer of Nineteen Sixty Nine AB NATANZ bought a Dutch cargo ship named MVP SEATO MVP stands for motor vessel and he rechristened it the MVP piece from Holland he sailed to New York to raise money and set up a shipboard radio station. His plan was to anchor in the Mediterranean outside territorial waters of Egypt and Israel and broadcast songs of peace that might open the minds of Israelis any. Alike his sojourn to New York stretched biblically three years would pass before he returned with ship in good repair with mixers, turntables, ABC cartridge machines, reel to reel tape machines, and fifty kilowatt transmitter to help not on- by what he needed John. Rolls. Royce grads to sell at auction, but the practical impediments of shipping the grand car stymied the business, the carpenters, Johnny Mathis and other musicians recorded for non promotional clips in praise of peace. Not an idea was that new music might open minds in Israel Egypt. The station eventually began to broadcast in nineteen seventy-three as the voice of peace

"Yes so you stick your Dick in different body shell on there so you can have top hats that look like station wagons or coupe or a van or pickup truck and they basically just bolt on it so you have this is rolling chassis you can stick a stick some wheels on here both wheels on here and have this rolling chassis that has most of the functionality in it and then you just have mainly some electrical connections and the connections for the day the ventilation system in the heating system up into the body and then the you know the rest just kind of sits there on top of the skateboard part of the reason we're here to do different vehicle is because electric vehicles are incretin much simpler than internal combustion vehicles they they they are they are the design is so simple that's what is so I don't mean to put down the Tesla by saying it's like a golf cart it's just you get the sense is a very simple thing I'm writing on here at at at it does court it's not fundamentally different conceptually from a golf cart yeah now you know friend a few houses the really high school our computers on their you know for for you know old style you know for golf carts you know you typically just have you know a handful of lead acid batteries basically the same batteries use your starter battery traditional car but you know for for these you've got to have a computer to manage the battery management system in the cooling of the battery you got computers for your you know for your driver assist systems and and everything else but the conceptually it's not that different from a golf cart yeah yes electric motors are incredibly simple low maintenance to my wife you know I as I've told you before but a bolt the Chevy all electric vehicle and she was asking me I'm coming up on ten thousand miles do I bring in and I said I don't know but probably not maintenance schedules are very different on the vis yeah I mean the main the main thing you would want to do with an Eevee yeah there are some things tires you know any one rotate the tires you know so you can keep continue having even tire wearing a checking line is still the tires yeah yeah yeah and you know check the brake pads no oil change you know the so there's no fluid it's a big credibly simple a thing I thank god for that and most of that stuff even on modern internal combustion vehicles us except for oil changes you know most of that stuff is sealed up on on modern I see vehicles anyway right so there's very little maintenance of of those other things it's mainly just the where items to break right tires which like lately yeah yeah yeah yeah checking up make sure you got your washer fluid in there for your wipers things like that that's the that's the main maintenance on modern cars pretty got you got a car that's we bought coming up on three years ago now and you know it's a Honda civic are are Mar maintenance cost is been so far total of ninety dollars for two while two visits you know change a tire rotation what a change yeah yeah you mentioned that the batteries lead acid in a in a golf cart of course because those are cheap and widely available and you didn't need a huge amount of range of a golf cart but now a days these lithium ion batteries the prices are are falling a lot aren't they wasn't at that I think it's the biggest most expensive component electric via it's it's by far the most expensive component in the navy and the prices come down a lot you know when when they were building the Tesla roadster ten years ago on the first generation Chevy volt you know the batteries in those things cost somewhere estimate somewhere between six and eight hundred dollars per kilowatt hour of capacity now all those prices are down somewhere in the range of two hundred to two hundred and fifty dollars per kilowatt hour and and dropping and it's estimated that by the middle of the decade will be somewhere between a hundred a hundred and fifty kilowatt hour dollars per kilowatt hour that's a change why is it so much less expensive part of it is just getting economies of scale you know as we grab actor Dustin yeah but it also you know improving the chemistry's improving the construction of the battery so that we can get more out of it and you know it's just it's just driving down the cost as the technology improves yeah yeah at any time you get to you get to mass sales it seems like prices go down as one of the miracles really if the modern technology era Sam Abell Sam that he is a principal researcher at Navigant research but if you like cars you gotta listen to wheel bearings his podcast it will Bering's dot media course sees Mike personal car guru thank you although I I I have to say I I'm a little mad at you for sending a link to the electric corvette to my wife unfortunately that was that was only seven hundred thousand dollars she fortunately she's five that was a little steep you made me nervous for a minute there Sam when I saw the price on that I chose I figured what's what what's Lisa saw that and she was the person as Sam segment brought to you by the amazing apps in fast photos scanner preserve what's priceless with the ups and fast photo scanner.

"Was the famous phrase quoted by San Antonio businessman, Ed Whitaker, when he was the chairman of General Motors back in the last decade, and he unveiled the Chevy volt which was the first commercial electric car that was sold by one of the big three. And he was concerned about it. Then and people are still concerned about it. Now as a matter of fact, they a study of Texans by AAA just last week revealed. The number one reason why we shy away from buying electric vehicles is range anxiety. So now there is a cooperation between WalMart a group called electrify America. And here in San Antonio with CPS energy and they're cooperating with energy providers. Elsewhere in the state. Eight to try to change rang chance -iety into range confidence. What they're doing is. They're putting in electric charging stations the latest model of electric charging stations. Both one hundred fifty kilowatt at three hundred and fifty kilowatt to handle all sorts of electric vehicles in the parking lot of walmarts. And there's WalMart's everywhere there's walmarts in small towns while BART's in big towns, and the group electrify America says knowing that you're going to be able to find a charging station is going to be the tipping point is going to be what's going to convince people that on electric vehicle might very well be for them. The first charging stations have gone in at the WalMart on Thousand Oaks over on the northeast side of San Antonio. And there's more to come and there's charging stations. Walmart's all over the area, and there will be an app that you can put on your phone that tells you where the charging stations are. And there's going to be one a lot closer than there is now. Now the way it works. Walmart likes it because you pull it. In charge of your car. You can also run into WalMart. They say that right now the state of the art EV's take between fifteen and twenty minutes to charge the way, the you operate the charging station is he's wipe your credit card and you pay by the minute. The charging stations at the WalMart on Thousand Oaks, charged fifty cents a minute. So do the math between fifteen and twenty.

"I'm going to figure out a way to get EV chargers houses that whoever can figure that out. It's going to very well. Yes. Yeah. You don't you put him in? I mean, even if I own gas stations. I'm figuring out how to put these charges in the gas station because the other problem is I mean, just look at his dumb picture here. This is this is the pace this is in Playa vista. For those who aren't familiar with Los Angeles is where Facebook YouTube EA games. Fox media fucking. There's a smoothie pseudo in there, a very snooty whole foods, it's a very snooty, food, etc. This is the only charger their series. That's this is there are two. There's a fifty kilowatt with one of each type of connector, and then there's a twelve kilowatt with the flexible connect to combination charger, and that's all for this is the tech hub. Yeah. Like the fuck made. You know, who knows if this theory holds any water, but maybe all the wealthy people who came down about drove up, the host house values around us put in charge at their houses. And they're like, I got to worry about them at home. Well, this is what happens is like people who try and like who run a platform of like getting corruption out of government like once they win. Tell you what when you're at the top. It's good to be corrupt. Right. Like, this is a great bud form until you until working for you. You know, the the charters the the point I was trying to make his there's no sign each at all like, oh, really? Yeah. Like other than the white box. The hose comes out of there's just no sign it. It's not like like any pretty much any gas station has a reasonably well it side if you could combine somehow because he ended up like driving around looking for stuff, it's wasting and running low. Yes, it's it stressful and frustrating, and it undermines the fact that driving an vs, actually, quite relaxed. Yes. Yeah. And serene. It's like, why am I stressed? I mean, there's like hundred thousand dollar like luxury fucking pod from minority report. It was funny even at the at the less expensive level where you get the bolts in the Chona's of the world right there. They're arguably nicer to drive because their power trains are quiet and so immediate to respond. You don't have that bad vibration? You know, the noise that you'll have to deal with. Like a luxury car. So. Yeah. And you drive you you get your own lane. Yep. Driving sometimes. Well, sometimes I'm so what's the story? I don't know they out stickers. I don't know anymore. That's as a not an owner as someone who was quite the opposite of an e. Yeah, I don't know anymore. I try not to keep trying about that orange truck. Red Sea tantric. Yeah. I would've probably would have driven it down. But I have plans as we can that prevented me from doing much with it because it needs some need some love you oppress cards, though. So what are you doing here? Look, look, it is that's that's me with the ipads, look at that. As you which you don't see your at. There is how jetlagged I was. I know I think I can't sit. Facade. I can see that. That was that was a long trip. I understand. It's one of those like thirty six hour turnarounds. Do it was. It's one of those things that seems like a feature, but it's actually a bug. It was cool access. It was incredible experience. Glad we got to do it. But like, yeah. That was that was I slipped rate on the flight home slept real. Well. Yeah. I I did I went from LA to Portugal for like, thirty minutes anytime, and it was Lamborghini that was cool, which one Espy. Yeah. Which was I mean, you know. All right. It's ridiculous. But, you know, thirty six hours of travel for thirty minutes to see the ratios are slightly off. Yeah. Somehow what else do you going to how about in is lower? If you keep going for it. I just love this truck so much that's the grill. Well, there's the grill. Where's it was? "Charter those are all AC, and so they charged they go through the powerlift chronics gets converted to DC and charges. The battery the high power charging units like we have out on the road. Now, like the the stuff from the superchargers the electrify America. All those those are all DC fast chargers they operate a four hundred eighty volts and much much higher currents as well. And so superchargers and the the tesla superchargers are about one hundred twenty kilowatts hundred two hundred twenty kilowatts charging capacity, and the electrify America charges are blowing up his highest three hundred and fifty kilowatts. So you can get eighty percent charge about fifteen minutes or kilowatts means faster charging. Yeah. That's the that's the electrical power that's going in. So the total amount of power. That's going into the battery or it comes out, you know, from your from your your motor when you're driving. So that that's helping and then the other. The other issue, of course, is different connectors. Tesla. Unfortunately, decided that they wanted to be like apple, and, you know, they created their own proprietary charging connector when they launched the model Asan they've used that that proprietary connector on the model X in three the the rest of Houston adapter, though to charge a tesla at these other charging stations, right? Yeah. And the car does come with an adapter you can just plug it into the connector on the car, and then you plug in the other one. So if there's not a super nearby, you can go to any any charging station and plug it in and it's not a problem. And then there's what we call the USA seventeen. Seventy two connector a standard connector that everybody in North America uses aside from tesla for. One twenty to forty volt charging. But now these new high-powered charges are using a new system called CC. Yes. CCS basically is an extension of that that standard SAP connector. So it adds to more big pins to the connector. So that you for that the higher power DC charging and that so right now everybody except the tesla and unfortunately Nissan is using is going to that for high-powered. So if you were getting a new one you wrote we'd probably want to look for one that supports the CCS, absolutely alka. And then in Europe, they have their they have a different version of that. Because in Europe hear four AC we have single phase AC. I'm not gonna go on all the details. But in Europe, they have three phase AC at home. And so they have a little bit different connector, but it's based on the same another good question from the chat room. Where's all this power? Come from. I mean, I know it when I'm charging at home. It's coming off my Bill. That's why we got solar panels to reduce that cost because it can be expensive to charges cars up. Where's it come from the one? I go to public station. I know I pay a dollar a minute or whatever, they're they're usually hooked up to to the public grid to the public utility, Greta. And it it varies they increasingly as they deploy these especially the three hundred and fifty kilowatt chargers. They're also adding battery packs to those because that there's a, you know. When you got a lot of draw on the grid, though what they do is. They have these local battery packs that give you that high power charge. And then it recharges that a slower rate from the grain thing. I would say if this sounds all very complicated. It's very simple. Once you buy your car, you know, what you can do. And where you can you'll see where you can go to charge it. And actually turns out there's enough chargers. Now already you don't have to worry about running out and for the most part. No. And especially with these longer range EV's now, it's not. You know, when it's going to be all over thanks.

I it's fantastic to see all of these different design stations of come together. Still very very close. I think generally everyone's converge. Single mode.
