NFL Preseason: Indianapolis Colts' Jacob Eason Outshines Sam Ehlinger Win Over Carolina Panthers

"The final. Preseason game of this weekend was in indianapolis. The colts they beat the panthers twenty one to eighteen one more. Exciting games of the entire sleet we had. Pj walker formerly of the xfl re looked really good for the carolina. Panthers i mean really good. He was ten twenty. One hundred. Sixty one yards touched out a really explosive athlete. That was moving very fast. He can throw on. The run was ripping throws up the sidelines and again a great backup who could see a lot of time. Depending on what. Sam darnold does but good backup to have cuba hubbard. He'd a huge run after escaping from the pile. He can be a really nice complement to christian. Mccaffrey for carolina. If he does what he did at oklahoma state you tears marsal marshalls kind of show a little bit of what he can do. The y rec- route. Lsu who some thought. He would be a first round pick but he was second round. Pick he had three receptions for eighty yards Takeaway from this game as jacob and he looked pretty solid and the colts are going with jacob and sam etlinger two quarterbacks with a lot of experience but easing looks like the more superior quarterback he he was fifteen to twenty one hundred eighty three yards another again. Another guy with some really impressive throws a all lot of dimes this weekend but he had some really impressive throws down the field. Sam longer was ten fifteen fifty five yards. He interception but offers a little bit more of that mobility aspect to his game. So it'll be interesting to see how that battle plays out but reports coming out this week or that went his injury return. Does luke

An Interview with South African Golfer Erik van Rooyen

"Want you to tell me absolutely everything. You can't about golf club that CHAPULTEPEC because I love watching this golf course I promise. There's not one detail I went to get by about playing it. Used COMING OFF A T. Three finish I just want you to kind of walk us through some of the considerations that go into play in that course because they talk about the altitude of course on the broadcast. It's not a direct translation of like. Oh now my eight iron goes this far because of all the different heights and stuff so right. What kind of adjustments do you make before this tournament? It's interesting because usually so I grew up. Bob Played logoff in Johannesburg South Africa and the difference is about ten percents so when a plan Janice Burke I play straight meters and it works great. Is that your stock yardage? Won't you play here play yards so say my nine goes one hundred and fifty eight hundred fifty five meters in Johannesburg. It goes one hundred fifty five yards here interesting so it's pretty close. But then we get to Japan Deepak. And it's like okay bowls going even further than Giannis books on the Tuesday. We hit every club in the bag. Just write it down straight. How is it going and track men track man and that's it? He had all the numbers in each Irish book. And I was like okay. How far is it nine? Ongo again or the eight on well about one hundred and eighty seven. Here's a. But then if you are if you're hitting a ninety five percent nine iron. Is it a direct? Does that really change how much it's going to fly compared to a regular golf course like? What are those kind of adjust? I try to not over. Think it too in the fate happened on even back on Sunday. A sixteen I was in between it was either a full wedge but the braves is a little into us. I think it was a hundred and fifty one of the pen and sixteen in a massive slow behind it. You can use a slip if you want and so we decided on taking a little nine and I was like okay but I've got a little bit of this. How am I doing that again? So it okay. But I think if you've gone over think it is going to get quite complicated yet but it's interesting. I don't feel like we see a golf course on tour where we see more guys get more mystified on the distance. The balls go right. I mean we're watching your shot into seven on Sunday. I think it was Sunday right. Excellent we watched guys go long on that day we tell people hitting the tree and everything like that but it just seems like it's a golf course that makes you guys at. Maybe not you finished tied for third. Maybe not may be the guy to ask about this but makes people uncomfortable. A little bit does does especially. If you're not in use it you know and it's funny I think when you get to sort of the mid irons seven six eight nine. It almost takes a little bit more because at ball gets up a little bit and we spoke about We do WanNa hit the high one just account for that little bit extra orage. Because it's GonNa go that extra bit further. You just had to get comfortable with it. We see every almost every year this tournament. Guys that hit it really far succeed. And if you adjust for altitude the courses equivalent of like sixty four hundred yards doesn't play. That long doesn't play that long. But why why would long drivers succeed there? I don't know it's a good question. I just think it's a golf 'cause again at its it's similar to courses in. Johannesburg and I grew up on us. I was very even lossiemouth system applied comfortable then. I think it's a golf course. It looks really tight but take whole four for example. Huge dog laughed. If you're going to hit drave got left because it's fairly simple punch out to the green and every holes Kinda got aside like that You know eight for example you have to miss it right dog right up the hill. If you left screwed you gotTa Punch out so you know which sites here driver wherever you want to. You're going to have a chance at least punch out to the green or get it around the green somewhere seeking up and down for par. But if you're going to play conservatively and you then mess here in trouble so I think part of the reason why we love watching so much is it feels a lot like the experiment of if if the the best players in the world are GONNA play. What of course that kind of looks like our local Munich overgrown yeah and just kind of weird bunkers around the green but guys seem to love playing and obviously you've had success or whatever. What is it about that makes it so fun to play? I think it's GonNa mix of everything you've got the short hauls you've got one which is really exciting. You know Gaza him to on on the green three woods and yet dot abounds right there to the left if you miss it too exciting long-hauls like eight really good par threes seven. It's going to be one of the baseball threes we play. Oh yeah I mean after you? Great show say tree. You wouldn't have been settled. I hit the tree. Freakin covers like off of the It's a tricky one. It's got a lot of everything it gives you know Sunday. There's a lot of pens. We can use some slopes and get a close with a whole lot of exciting stuff. What's IT I mean? So Co again. We're talking about of course the you're playing plays very differently than the rest of the courses you've been in pressure situations before and but now you're playing golf course that has this weird altitude factor In a high pressure situation Sunday did that feel any different than the other high pressure situations. You've been in on Sundays now. Pretty similar of you know if I think back in Sweden last year I was more nervous on Sunday in Europe and then I was This this this last week on Saturday I was actually the drain. Hundred was all over the place and then Sunday was quite calm. Funny Enough I shot four under this adds. There's all one hundred Sunday so I think I did. Okay and do you do anything differently? At altitude you set out when you start out the week. Are You hydrating better? I believe you've had. He got hit with food poisoning. The Eagles screwed bring that on himself. Are you what do you do with food wise? Like how do you make sure you don't get hit with what hits a lot of people in Mexico You know we went to a nice restaurant in the hotel tippin. Yawkey good Japanese food. He says it was shrimp. That we all eat the shrimp. I think he went back and add something different afterwards but yeah he was out. Thursday he was went back to the Italian sleep the whole day so actually at my trainer on the bag and heated. Okay Club the club me. Bad Club on AIDS or sixteen holes. He gave you a bad club. Is it three would drive? And he's like Nana hit. The driver and I hit it laughed. I wasn't supposed to go gave him the guy but we did okay in the end. It's all good well. This is perfect timing because we tease you before. We going to do our Calloway ad for you. We're GONNA make you add Lib it but the one thing I was adjusted to ask about was the maverick three would you? Yeah what's your feedback on that? I loved it the minute I got up behind. A bowl think it sits really good. It's kind of like a classic three would for me and I'm kind of an old school guy like I don't have any persimmon clubs but I'd love to have some one day. I love a good Blade Iron. So that looks like just a classic looking through it. I like it. One of our guys is claiming that the jaws wedges mart should be illegal. They should be illegal because the grooves are so good on them and they're literally wanted me to ask you about whether what you think of the grooves on the switches. I spoke to You. Think he should have been disqualified for using illegal. I don't think so spokes Rodrick Cleveland about and he's not working for callaway at the Genesis obviously got so much knowledge and they've actually got little miniature groups in between the actual cruise. You know I didn't know that you do get a lot of spin on them. It was context as that. That was the frightening part for me. Was sometimes I would get crazy. Good Spin but what are you? That concludes the AD portion of this much of a tinker with equipment. I mean how often will you do you consider? Where do you fall in the spectrum? I guess when I probably prefer not to change obviously I think like any golf perfect. We all love getting. You couldn't love seeing the latest stuff but if something works for me I'm GONNA I'm GonNa keep it in the bag. Don't really like to change unless I see significant improvement. Yeah what. What is the feedback on the joggers? Somehow I knew this was go. Of course I can't believe I made this is Ed's is really all over the ballpark to be honest people. It's so polarized what people get so worked up about it. I'm very okay. It doesn't bother me. People either love it or absolutely hates that have gone some meshes instagram. So on lady in Lee Massachusetts says surely got enough money to go buy some property tie for the conference and then I get guys at say absolutely love it wake and I get it. So it's no middle ground extra comfortable like what is really cockney appeal of the convenient at the same time you know. I think I think they look good. Yes it's different and people probably done like that too much but what in Golf? No Way people love. The sport is so good at the time so I think I don't know I don't mind the fact that it's a little extending are just a little bit but then again I'm not a huge fan of those loudmouthed pants. That are all these different kinds of colors. Were those the two options you were. But I think I think it's. It's it's a little different it at the same time. So neat and clean well. I honestly do think it's underrated. Part of the highest levels of pro golf. That you have to wear pants eighty-five in hot is new. And it's truly not comfortable to play golf in that paints have come to. I know that sounds stupid to save. It could even looking at some of the. We're with Brad Faxon. They're looking at some of the old cotton shirts. Right Hands Right. Yeah the idea of wearing pants and eighty five degree heat. I know that there's a lot that comes with a minor thing to deal with a right but it is like when you're playing poorly in your pants and your hot Yeah new European they. They made a rule now. If it gets above a certain temperature they allow you to wish awards but I mean just make it across the board. I mean why not yes. I'm not quite sure I can only go back to something you said earlier and not feeling super nervous on Sunday. A couple of things one. I'm curious how how how to how it different from Scandinavia like you're talking about and then three like there's a lot on the line for you personally stars like where you're GonNa be playing how much you can walk up all that kind of stuff. It's a lot of questions I think about all those things. I just any other little four foot writer. That you've got going is going into the week or going into Sunday. What what are those things that are on on your mind? Music like special temporary membership and that kind of for how I it's it's in the back you mind. I'M GONNA TRY THAT. I'm trying to get my PJ to card But I mean. I've been doing this for quite a while. Now. And if that's going to be at the forefront of your mind going on Sunday you're definitely not going to be ready to go win major tournaments. You've got kind of put it in the Freezer. You know until you're done so it's not easy. Obviously wing then golf tournament was forefront of my mind throughout the whole day but if God just go do your job as well as he can so what. Walk us through kind of that that we were talking about trying to get your car right. So let's catch people up that people that are not as familiar with your career to this point and I want to go

"Wilson slides to his left he fifty down field this one at the goal line is intercepted by he was down by contact zone but there's a way to seal it so so it's brutal day for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense only five a fourteen on third down there over in the red zone and what we know that that the Seahawks are comfortable operating in tight situations you would even call this one tight they never put any pressure on the rams Russell will feel twenty two of thirty six for two hundred forty five yards but he fact five times and throws that pick that year with JB long on the rams radio network they played better than us tonight we didn't play our best game on those opportunities out there that we had we we you know in this single our way the last season left lot where we were what we we're we're trying to go a lot more season left what more things to do everything so I'm fun of us okay one game at a time and just get better see the film can figure out how we can get better as a collective group this is a rough night for the Seahawks night we did not do what we plan to do it at all and I thought it was a really good night for the rams they did a lot of stuff that they want to do they're able to control the ball and move it like they wanted to and super secure with a for the most part as well and they did a nice job on this early in the game without question early in the game they they were controlling the temple really please with our guys today definitely some things that we can clean up but I thought our defense was outstanding from the start against a great offense that's really been put a lot of pressure on people it's a great football team tonight that we played coach Carroll and his staff we have so much respect for that team his coaching staff and I and all those guys in and I thought really our team did a nice job respond in an and now we got to do a great job next week against the cowboys four hundred and fifty five yards for the rams overall and golf is not fact even once yeah you get the Jared Goff rhythm more and more in the last month but it has a lot to do with the emphasis on Todd Gurley and the run game so yet again he's over a hundred yards total and with coach McVeigh making a concerted effort feature his star back more and more the rams are getting back to being a dual threat they're not nearly as easy to defend but I like that coach make very high life the defense because honestly the defense was the star of the show on Sunday night football until the Seahawks and the Niners they flip flop their spot in the NFC west course we still in the game coming between those two I can't wait I'm I'm geek to often salivating over that one nighters eleven into fiance dead and three we will talk about Niners and faith coming up and there's so much else that we need to get to you on the show patriots fans what the hell are you doing for but also chief wow what a turnaround for them as well as they lock up the A. they're a good team turning in that good seven and five they're not that good they're hanging by a thread for a playoff spot right they literally have to win three of their last four if you ask me to have a shot they got to win ten games no questions asked and I got a tough games that not this week but they'll probably screw that up they got in trouble with buffalo have fun with that one damn tough game they got a game with the ravens in Baltimore have fun with that when I went in that game either so you know let's eat dot dot com I just went in Baltimore good luck Scott in Boston on III it was a game that I ran back with the ticket with the it was the Atlanta game they were down twenty eight down twenty five that I still I still covered the I covered the money line I one that I won that Superbowl and they were down twenty five that that team's on me more money and shake a stick at I love that none of their no joke and they're not done they're not finished his mother on their defense just as leaked a little in the last month and I think that's been the difference I think Brady said a few average games I didn't think he was bad last week but I got the Texans really you know loser because I I've lost things today I've left things behind I failed to grab the things I needed and I've lost things and I'm leaving a trail of failure everywhere he also says my team's gonna lose "So the ravens got a field goal to take a seventeen fourteen lead against the forty Niners in the game of the day now the forty Niners are trying to get Robbie gold ready to go for a field goal attempt there now at the thirty seven yard line of the ravens and we've got twenty seconds to go in the half to rob Lowe is scrambling and he got a couple yards out of it so fifteen seconds clock is stopped so they'll they'll have a shot at a feel go here yeah they'll probably they'll probably have a good look at one here Robbie Gould off injury so we'll see how he looks here on this account also the dolphins have scored in their game it's fourteen thirteen in Miami against the Philadelphia Eagles and one of the most bizarre off special teams play is you'll see the holder or I should say the punter who I battle hacker Matt hack one field goal took a direct snap now yeah yeah yeah so the offense of formation is all the way out toward the sideline if you're only as a center in front of him but he stood far enough back right it was a shock and so there were two guys to defenders line up on either side of the center of the he snapped the ball he rolled onto his lap now the ad what for guys to the right and left of them and for guys to the right of way spread out he start to roll the lap finally someone came up onto him and one of those players who I guess was eligible just sort of leak out he didn't throw the ball he shoved a sort of push the ball toward him and was a touchdown it was like an option hitch or over the goal line to Jason Sanders who's the dolphins kicker it was one of the most creative ladies I I've ever seen I I really honestly I mean I and for it to be that successful means that they practice did an awful lot so they pulled it out when they felt they needed it and they they lead Philadelphia by one it's eagles ball on their side of the field right now not in my hand score for Gavin right now he's writing those eagles so dolphins who only won two games this year leading this one fourteen thirteen are you nervous gap not at all I even tease the eagles so it's only minus four and a half and in the face of a big second half by the way how bout the bangles leading the jets seventeen to three so they bring back any Dalton whose look very good today fourteen a twenty a hundred fifty five yards and a score meanwhile Sam Donald he's efficient but they have put any points up we were talking a levy on bell and what a wash out he's been with the jets this year is twenty two yards rushing so seventeen to three bangles are leading the just looking for their first win of the season we had a marked pine in the Browns game that was picked up and then there were a Turner was tackled down near the goal line so the Browns are going to be fighting a very long field here and the Steelers are just tied up so yeah ten ten all right well with fifty five seconds ago and a half I don't think the Browns gonna take any risk right now yes so they they officially down is about all in dangerous seven yard line that you don't want to turn the ball over right here with fifty five yards dangerous will say yes flag thrown there all right so some of the other games Packers not it's not over yet Packer giants are hanging in its seventeen ten Packers as we approach the first half their Panthers leading the Redskins fourteen six four have is to go in the house there and you know how about those bangles so huh I mean it also brings back to mine you know what what was accomplished by benching Andy Dalton well I mean we with you thought dress got me the really thought these other guys are going to be the answer and and by the way if you've already put yourself in a position to get the number one pick in the draft why would you risk it my my you five games to go and put it all back in there maybe when two or three games that you could caution the number one overall pick well well here's here's the thing about Andy Dalton I mean I I'd have to look up his contract situation because I haven't looked at it lately but I'm fairly certain he still has some years left here let me double check out while I'm speaking yeah he does okay so he's still a Cincinnati Bengal until the end of next season right so I I mean it made sense to me at the time because you keep them healthy for a potential trade should you bring in another quarterback U. K. there is a market for Andy Dalton hello I've I've said this I said this today he's a better quarterback than a lot of people give him credit for this is a guy who's a winner regular season when everybody's a winner I mean Alex Smith was a top the quarterback who indie read utilized famously with their can't city chiefs during their rebuild and then eventually they drafted a patch of the homes of the time I will speak into the Bengals here's a big touchdown forum second call from the five two receivers go out to the left dawn catches a shot gun snap he had accident.

"Of low low and he knows this is not a spot his offense works well in in fact looking back at what is quarterback Malcolm Perry has done recently coming into this game was six of his last nineteen passes with three interceptions that goes back through most of the last three games so even though they've been winning they've been waiting running the ball first and foremost and when he trailed by twenty one you're compromised in doing that absolutely Jason animal it down now walking off on his own that's tough as doing a poor out for the rest of the year with a leg injury hello the standing on the near has has a long walk here although he is walking on his own power with the live looks like he's favoring that right for success right away right back for maybe eleven runs for fifty five yards with his last four negative eighteen that's showing dial the defense okay guys this was going to do the show the teaching of stop believing this hate stay awake in the back and make sure that they can't get any big plays on the top of the only way maybe gets back with this game down in eighteen and they go with the full defense most of the defensive tackle I was surprised with the the middle on Thursday that's the attention to detail the door Davis taken pride in today already also having himself an excellent game he's so decisive because of where he plays on the defense really penetration that was the difference in that loss write their own whites upon for navy standing on his own.

"He is out of the backfield and that would be Aaron Jones thirty six carries a hundred fifty five yards and one touchdown in Vic Fangio spoke on a really good you know when I first saw him. you know when they came up with them then I looked at as to where they get this guy and I think he was a sixth round pick and I'm saying geez but there he is powerful it's got really good balance he runs tough is a capable pass receiver out of the backfield they they do everything with them and I think I was still there. yeah and the thing that makes this guy a good player he's in your number three right now for the Packers what makes him a good player is that he can catch the football in April screens to warm but he has had a fumble this year so maybe while he's trying to get those extra tough yards keep reaching for the football you'll find last week against the bears went for signature von Miller moved as a running back was going to the ground he was trying to take the ball from the runner and I was thinking minds that think of myself. to have that kind of understanding about where you are in the moment in the opportunity that's next level play it's not just making the tackle but taking the ball away this is the guy who you should probably try to take the football from me at a formal last year and he didn't have very many carries in you and twenty seventeen but they'll use him in the screen game they'll use him in short yardage he's been a very capable running back into games thirty eight of us thirty six attempts on a fifty five yards four point three yards per carry yeah that is pretty darn good now that other favorites targets would be one divide say Adams demonte Adams eleven receptions one hundred and forty two yards any does pose a problem for the Broncos defense well obviously given some attention sometimes but like any.

"Time not finding yourself in third down and and very very long to meet to talk about that first happened just sort of it seems like it was hard to get on track yeah well we obviously don't have a lot of positions I think we have two positions and then that little two minute drive we had at the end yeah we shot ourselves in the foot because we really could get the run game going so we are kind of put ourselves behind this takes a little bit but then once we did kind of get a little bit of a big play here anything we we had a penalty and there were or had a penalty is next play so we were just constantly behind and you know combination of those things get behind the sticks you know because the penalties and not really been able to get into the second level with the run game you know heard is a little bit he came out the second half an a and I thought you you sort of put things together offensively you had a couple of really nice drives you could not get in when you got down to the red zone what what was the difference in your mind in terms of your ability to move the ball the second half or like a you know I don't think we committed as many counties first of all right I think we're able to get some chunks in the passing game in and still you know we we weren't you know it at the end of the day I like how hard we fought we we fought really hard man I mean we did we did a lot of the second half we just couldn't put the ball in the hands of the Reds you know in the end zone we got down the Renzo Reds and once again you know I just yeah I was wishing I really thought we were going to find it a little more chunk plays in our run game Pam or one in the red zone you know obviously we had we had a little mess missed opportunity there in the red zone to score a touchdown on at least on the one drive yeah yeah so it it I think at the end of the day as ugly as it was for us in the first half it really came down to who was able to score once they got the ball down the result no question last thought you mention the second half and I've got you down unofficially with two hundred fifty five yards of offense in in the second half so I even though this game is based on how many points on the scoreboard there are some positives for you to take based on how your side of the ball play the second half well it's tough I mean it really is tough to think about that but listen this is big first games head coach it's riches first game calling in the NFL to his first game with me it's my first game with all these new guys it's tough to look at it but we definitely learned a lot of things I think we learned a lot of things going in from the first half the second half so hopefully we can what we put together get some rest this week it's gonna be a tough tough task you know travel back home playing against a good team next week but you know hope we we put that stuff together and make the most of what we learned Hey Joe appreciated yep thanks yes Joe Flacco with Dave Logan brought to us by the law offices of Dan.

"Follow us on Twitter at ESPN one thousand CC team it's an over reaction Monday here as we take a look in week one of college football well you can't hear from reddit words from the program will get the content you from Brad his thoughts about college football he is our college football analyst here that show our weekends ahead say ESPN college gameday on ESPN radio so here from across the bottom the are but guys it is reaction Monday but it was great to see college football back out there for everyone to see yeah a full day of college football on Saturday you're in Oklahoma showing that they are not going to stop the full pedal to the metal if you will for Oklahoma last night is baby Houston you've got Notre Dame or walking off to coverage of Notre Dame in Louisville this evening but ultimately yeah it's great and looks over react let's let's shut down the SEC guys and guys as we kick things off we're in a in a girl is worried about the back end of the SEC what about the back end of the big ten here in Chicago north western they go out to Paolo alto and they lose the Stanford seventeen this seven and the offense which we talked about on Saturday we were looking for northwestern's offense to take another step this season well they didn't do it on Saturday against the Stanford cardinal they lost the first down battle the Stanford twenty one to fifteen and they only had two hundred and ten total yards in that contest and they lose and they'd lose in dramatic fashion in one of the worst beats we've seen in quite sometime one of the things that we have to look at before you can get to that game is the perception of northwestern football because there is a difference between how many of us look at it locally here in Chicago and how it is now actually you could talk to any national gassed any coach and they'll say coach but he's done a really terrific job with the way he's been able to help with that program look at the facilities all those things right well here's the thing for all three of us I was college football fans are standard use Alabama are standard is what U. S. C. used to be our standard is where George is going. it is the operational it's when you are in the mix for a very quality bowl game or being in the final four in that type of mics is what I'm looking at this game on Saturday with northwestern everyone's looking at a hundred Johnson as a new quarterback how things will be able to turn around because now you have a quarterback that could be able get it done well here's the thing when you see you guys six were seventeen good for fifty five yards and the inability to run the football pretty well I think the defense is what I thought it was but often simply speaking they were completely limp in that contest yeah absolutely and you talked about it all wall of northwestern and you know they're in every game there in every game well the whole thing goes back to the very beginning to me with how you start the week when you don't name a starting quarterback when you say will whoever's gonna be taking the ball the first that that's gonna be who's who's thirty game you have to go to T. J. green who's out indefinitely now he's gonna have to foot surgery so now it's going to be Johnson so ultimately. for northwestern you look at how they fared in September St based tend to struggle in September as it all starts with this first month and then they have to build themselves back up as they usually do last year they lost three games in September after beating Purdue the first week of the season you know they lose to Stanford this week and are they were in it they were and then ultimately you know they weren't because they couldn't close out the game you know in twenty seventeen they lost two games they went to into in September so sees early struggles for Pat fitzgerald teams that ultimately put them behind the eight ball to start the season if they can win early games if they could start stronger they would be in contention every year for a title in the big ten the problem is they tend to struggle and Pat fitzgerald very hard nosed about it and he's got a decent defense you held Stanford for most of the game until the very bad be probably the worst beat of the weekend eight eight in that game but ultimately you lose the Stanford you start the season on one you won't let you win a game in you but if you beat Stanford I'll get you and all the which is a winnable game at home your to know into the Michigan state game on September twenty first at Michigan state and Wisconsin and Nebraska follow up before you have Ohio state so tough schedule ahead for northwestern wait we ask the why why does the nation look at northwestern as a program as a really good program in college football the why in the answer can be found in gambling right thirteen three and one against the spread in the past seventeen games as a dog coming into the game on Saturday for northwestern so the nation wide perception of northwestern is they always performed well in big spots where they're the underdog dust that's why people may be over value what northwestern brings to the table you also have to look at just the sheer fax in if we go back to last season four point seven yards per play it was a hundred twenty seventh in college football last year they had two hundred and ten total yards on Saturday against the Stanford team with Ralph Michael's on the phone with us on Saturday telling us that that stand for. defense isn't as impressive as many people were leading you want to believe her so the fact that northwestern has his quarterback situation that has definitely gotten a lot worse in the last two days right because now that you have TJ green out indefinitely probably going to miss the rest of the season you now are relying on hunter Johnson he goes out there in the Stanford contest he gives you six of seventeen fifty five yards two interceptions the offense couldn't move again I I give you the staff they lost the first down battle to Stanford and they had two hundred and ten total yards so you go out there against a team that summer picking to drop back a little not as good as their reputation kind of has you with Stanford in you lose this contest where you can't move the ball and a turnover at the end not only kills the gamblers across the country who had northwestern covering this game but also it kills your chances even win the football game waits a cat's team from fitzgerald was close once again in the fourth right but the terrible mistake in the turnover at the end seals the deal and Stanford goes on to win this football game and Johnson that's why if we get back to the point where you the three of us are going to tell you exactly how it is with northwestern football many will tell you otherwise right but we're gonna look at the stats the offense not good enough this quarterback situation not good enough you expect more from a transfer from Clemson hundred Johnson going forward for the Wildcats after this they'll win the division once it's all we get is this not the conversation every September yeah. here's the ultimate point is we talk about this on Chicago's house till date ideas can one thousand in the US we have John Adam and Krysten for awhile and slowly that thing is is that we can pick this apart every single year right we go back to last year which you document talk about the the loss against do kick in Akron taking on the year before that the loss at Duke you find out that's not such a bad loss what we're talking about is if you if you are a sustainable big ten team Adam you're in a position where it's like out of the box you're going to come out strong we know who we are is a seems like the last few years under Chris Gerald it takes awhile for this team to identify who they are good teams don't do that good teams know who they are from the beginning it just seems like it always takes awhile for northwest will go back even further twenty sixteen they lost to western Michigan Illinois state to start the season yeah so I mean you you're looking at a a team I know you joke about them than winning the west there Jonathan but ultimately no but seriously look you LV everybody thinks they should be you L. V. but ultimately you don't know what this team it's September it's northwestern it's a toss up and then you've got a string of five ranked opponents you've your your first ranked opponent with Stanford you've got five more I've after that they have a chance to start one in six or only seven to start this season and then they get Indiana Purdue UMass you should be able to win those three games Minnesota could be a tough game you know and then and then the battle for Illinois. a dollar you know base when into October with three losses last year then they went on a role they when they won seven of eight so you got to give credit to the fact that his team's fitzgerald's teams do not give up any improved throughout the season the problem is this season the meat of their schedule the tough opponents are on the front. you could have a run at the end again this year but there there might be a situation where they're too far behind to make up for it and and win the big ten west like they did last year may not be an option the criticism is like well you're not Ohio state and Michigan you don't seem like you're that press line you seem like you're in the middle and work your way up as the season goes on again you give credit for this one the result for that but we're talking about is Hey these are non conference opponents that you should be and they have not been able to do that early in the season out that this year by the way with some thoughts here because someone ask the hard questions someone represent a C. C. T. good there in Palo alto asking the question the question to practice drill is how do you account for a hunter but the quarterback how do you account four hundred Johnson looking unprepared Oldboy.

"Good moral improvement across the world and in the actual discrimination that goes behind where women are separated from many well Jacob yeah I I think that the left has a tendency to take stories that are controversial and then treat those controversial stories as non for mercy is they're not controversial the only people making this controversial are people who hate women for example so a couple things can be dramatic Carli Lloyd think first of all it's amazing that you kick the field goal from fifty five yards this ticket is an incredible thing to she did take more steps than normal field goal kicker what a G. she was running back from from further distance third she's a hundred forty pounds the chances that you would actually play in a full scale NFL game are pretty well specifically because the risks are incredibly high for her like she she's a soccer player if you're a kicker in the NFL in someone's wishes you you're ready Smalls person on the field imagine if you're five seven and a hundred and forty pounds and your woman like the chances that that goes well we have a steroid written three hundred fifty pound beast coming after I get this is not a great I did not all these things can be simultaneously true that is very because you can get a fifty five yard field goal that was where I in the NFL to Iran executive and I don't care about any of the consequences to Cali why tell for example yeah I'd signer I mean I'm a sell out the next game why the hell not it's an entertainment industry sort of thing but if the idea is that it's utterly ridiculous for anyone to know that women playing professional football on a broad level Roblin gonna work out well for the limited type of national football it doesn't work out well for the many play professional football Andrew luck just retired because interlock with a top caliber NFL quarterback was to beat up rob brown can grab brown Caskey was a huge human being just retired his body was to crush so again I think that the left like to select situations in which is eminently obvious that there will be negative consequences and then if you mention this and they say oh you're a sex and so I think it's almost an object of I really appreciate the call but he fell calling all the way from Australia Phil what engineers are go for it Sir have you gone I don't want to talk about how the new media wow and how do we get older generation we got that out of the box what well I think that Hey it's great question so I think that on a broad level new media has transformed the political landscape by providing alternative methods of attaining informations there used to be a monopoly you see the there were three TV channels and there are a couple of radio stations and there's no internet there are a few major newspapers whatever was available in your town maybe if you're lucky then your times available in our town probably is your local paper and that was the only way that you are getting any sort of information and so people could easily be manipulated to believe one particular political line this is how the entire American public was convinced that America had lost the Vietnam War by nineteen sixty nine when that obviously was not true for example well the new media has allowed this plethora of information to bloom it's allowed all sorts of new views to come in to play yeah that has upsides and downsides the upside is that you get all these new views the downside is some of those use are not well vetted there some people who are putting out bad information people have reacted not by suggesting methodologies whereby we can help people see the difference between bad sources of information good sources of information but by ripping the system itself the internet is bad internet news is that we need to go back to the good old days when everybody watch CNN and that of course is not true it is also true that I think a lot of people have to get used to the idea that just because I headline is clickable does not mean that the headline is wrong so for example I know a lot of big tech companies have these policies about what they call click bait headlines well what made headlines our headlines where the story does not fulfill the patch click the headlines are not well written clickable headlines you're out of a boring headline just because they straight porn headlines in The New York Times I'm really optimistic about the age of new media consider radically shift how exactly we do politics I think you're already seeing it happen in the here and now and I'm eager to see as technology as technologies adapt I think that's going to increase I think as as more and more people become fluent with the internet as cars just in terms of technology available in your car just the them way that people consumer information is gonna change radically I think it's quite a thing fell thanks so much for listening and thanks for the call our number here by the way is.

"On the conversation for outside was Vegas one eight seven seven forty eight nine see we've been talking about Carli Lloyd U. S. soccer star yeah she can kick fifty five yards she's got it down but the she really deserves to be in the NFL the NFL an undisclosed teams at this point are on record offering her a very nice deal should this be happening I mean my god the NFL this is not like playing well you know soccer we're talking about the NFL friends we've got some of the toughest strongest men on that field one of them is Ellie Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen and he's like Hey she can kick absolutely but this woman is going to make it on the field because it would be like a stampede scene in The Lion King movie he's right and you shouldn't be forced to apologize he shouldn't be put on the bench for speaking his mind I agree with wholeheartedly women should not be in the NFL what say you friends seven zero two two five seven five three nine six it even goes to ask and even goes further women in combat because I showed you the studies of the marine corps saying you know all of the Obama era wanted to be so darn politically correct that you know women in combat marines army Rangers navy seals a study was done from the marine corps and said it just doesn't work physically just doesn't is that okay does that hurt someone's no matter men women or women there's nothing wrong with that I'm not going to apologize for saying that because that's the way it is god created it that way and yes there's many things women could do better than men but guess what there are many things men can do better than women and it's okay to say that someone finally has to be bold enough and brave enough to say that without everybody flipping out and getting them size all twisted and not like a pretzel or a busy calls see your next round misty Sanchez well the show thank you all right so I think I think we should let this go play in the NFL but I also think we should let guys play in the WNBA because our son watchable so I say we open up the sports everybody who wants to play we we go for is really quality if that's what they want you just made about about the women's so we put you guys in there I don't know I I it's already I think we should take the fight a different way and say you want a quality we open up the sport everybody wants to play all you got it if you would like to limit you have and then how we handle these people and then we'll see the unintended quite consequence exactly that's what I was just gonna say and you know what and all in all but it will just decide you know said Keenan Allen is accurate he's a wide receiver saying field and she has to go defensive she's in trouble I mean when you're great you know what I want to do it let him have it so what you're saying all hard on her **** and then it'll teach a lesson yeah things don't think that you know what my dad always said that you know what yeah he's the if you're going to do it and and you're gonna get in trouble then I guess you have to learn a lesson in you know what's said maybe sometimes that's just the way it is people do need to learn lessons.

"One one no no to kick on a soccer field it was actually a fifty five yard field goal that the World Cup star let loose a training session for the Philadelphia Eagles last week all that's the eagles of the National Football League American football now for some perspective that is the tough kick for most kickers in the N. F. L. right now so a video of it went viral lays a huge eagles man and the whole thing started when the team invited her to watch them practice at the end they unexpectedly they call on to the field and it takes a few steps there remain without my warm up nothing and kicks the ball through the golf notice Lloyd's longtime coach James Galanis he says after that video got shared around they started getting some phone calls some of these calls were from NFL teams one team even invited Lloyd to join the roster for a preseason game on Thursday that would make her the first woman to play in an NFL preseason game it could change the why the world thinks saying it at that level unfortunately Lloyd had to decline she's already scheduled to play in a soccer game the same day but Galanis says it could happen in the future she would need to train first but he says he's already got the right mindset shutting the hall will bail and just thinking that's the only thing that existing going through striking the bull through the Goths stripe down the middle I think that is also something that Cali one have a problem with doing that song and think that I'm talking about and if she does it Galanis says it could open the door for women not just to play in the NFL but in any male dominated league you're listening to All Things Considered from NPR news you're listening to ninety point three K. "Running backs ran for fifty five yards on eighteen carries in the preseason debut on Sunday against the San Francisco forty Niners thirty eight of those yards came on Dallas is first thirteen attempts Tony Pollard got the entire first series with the the entire series with the first team and finished with a four carries for sixteen yards I I look I mean parsing the the cowboys running back production but not none of these guys are as good as Ezekiel only we know that right now they they might be able to get by they might have productive game whatever that none of these guys are as good as it so the drop off is steep none of these guys are going to be as good meanwhile Ezekiel Elliott's hold out continues on I guess you can wonder well does the relatively lackluster production from cowboys running backs over the weekend is this going to compel a Jerry Jones to overreacting gives each what he's looking for whatever that is financially here's my question with the whole Ezekiel Elliott thing what why'd you draft and and I understand the the answer to that as well well he is really really good and he's been great when he's been available to the cowboys over his first three seasons but you use a first round draft choice at least I think you use a first round draft choice especially the fourth overall pick that's not a four five year dot a first round pick you take him in a dozen obviously always work out this way but but you take a guy in the first round thinking that that's going to be a guy that you give a second contract to that's going to be a cornerstone of your franchise not just for the next four or five years but for the next eight nine or ten years that's the idea you take a player in the first round thinking this guy is going to be good enough that we're gonna do stuff like pick up a fifth year option and give him a second contract that's how it's supposed to work yet when you take a running back understandably so because of the wear and tear and look it's it's been well documented Ezekiel Elliott if you go back to his last two years at Ohio state there's over seventeen hundred touches there's a lot of of mileage already on on Ezekiel Elliott's legs and his and his body and so I I get the nature of the position I get how it's been devalued I understand how the NFL views running backs in two thousand nineteen but if you're gonna take one with the fourth overall pick I think you have to be willing to say are you fine we are going to if if he lives up to what we're looking for and I think clearly he's Ezekiel Elliott has he was the best player two thousand sixteen he was the best player last year but if you're if you're not going to extend them and and you're not going to give him what he frankly I believe deserves then why did you take a first round pick is supposed to be an eight nine year guy all pro potential maybe hall of Famer but certainly a cornerstone for almost a decade not for for five years and so yes his early production has justified the pick but the the position doesn't match what you talk you you used you used so a pick but if you take it another position you're a little bit more willing to perhaps invest long term and you have the guy for six seven eight nine years instead if you decide you're not gonna pay Zeke and I believe they will but if you decide you're not gonna pay Elliott that is a picture that you could have used on somebody at a different position that would still be with you that you would be more willing to sign long term and while that player might not be as good as Ezekiel Elliott is in his position if he's not here beyond two thousand twenty and you don't have your two thousand seventeen first round pick into the next decade and he didn't win big in the short term of Ezekiel Elliott and what was the point now along with this obviously is a dak Prescott component I saw a tweet over the weekend from Michael Lombardi obviously works for the athletic many tweeted this on a Saturday morning if dak Prescott has turned down an offer in the thirty million dollars per year range which is what I'm hearing that he is nuts not a top five quarterback could agree more and you know it's it's impossible to talk about one player without talking about the other it's impossible to talk about Ezekiel Elliott and also not talk about that Prescott for that matter Amari Cooper as well because he's a three players looking for long term deals eat what we've talked often in recent seasons about the escalating quarterback market in Kirk cousins getting three years eighty nine million dollars Nick Foles for the most part of back up getting the deal he got with the the Jacksonville Jaguars dak Prescott is not a top five quarterback dak Prescott is not a top ten quarterback and and he may play himself into being one eventually but over his first three seasons if you look at him just to test agree you will see a guy who is far more middle of the road that he is operational and I think it's a very compelling question for the Dallas Cowboys what do you do with your quarterback spot when you have a guy who's good but but not for lack of a better term because I think this is so over used but I use it anyway elite are you gonna give Jack frost on thirty five forty million Bucks and if you do any pay Ezekiel Elliott what he's looking for what does that come at the expense of because as much as we could talk about well you got a locking your quarterback in Ezekiel Elliott's great okay and and yes the the salary cap does go up by about ten million dollars every single year if you do get to a point where you sign this guy and this guy and this guy at you know X. cost at some point it's going to mean you can't keep someone else are you really willing to sacrifice other areas for your team because you're gonna give dak Prescott thirty five forty million box that to me is a bigger question than what they do with Ezekiel Elliott the biggest single Ellie question has to do with what they did three years ago if you work in a sign of long term to begin with then why did your draft pace of play has become an issue in baseball now it's one in golf it showed up this weekend we'll talk about it next on ESPN.

"Wireless over the NFL we are heading towards the second week of preseason games Dallas Cowboys still don't have the keel Elliott he's among those in Dallas who could use a new contract earlier on ESPN radio John John Taylor from ESPN Dallas one of three point three regretted that for yeah real simple real quick types of two types of the people right now there's there's a lot yeah this thing around here yeah man is money he deserves it and there's little fool who believe football analytics that the only thing that matters and it doesn't matter you could take a you take your brown right now and analytics and put it back is going to back it eighteen though because everyone backs replaceable right so that is the case there are others around me he could then and a clear one of the best in the and to be honest with gel and that's where that rule I have told everybody my show any word but the it is contract only like talk but I do want to he does show up Wednesday before right we got a real conversation right before the others just last year here try to get a little tree will be trying to get a little more is going to get done I'm not really worried but right because Jack is the thing if he starts missing regular season games now there's an issue because it's the team that played in the big things this year up until now it's just it's it's just a normal back and forth of this type of situation but here's my question for you can't get to that point the Wednesday before the season opener this is a candidate or not in nineteen ninety five a month personally be day one simple question like the world every year right yes the best team in their head at least kind of miss that is three it's a good this call is good news on the field their best players other leaders they don't have eight days prior who complained that a lot he had a bad day today they don't have any of that they're not going to let some money come between winning issue what is that within weeks what is more so if that's the case they understand how valuable these key players are to their overall success both this year and in the future how did you even get to this point where easy go L. it wouldn't even be a training camp as he's trying to get a new deal I was really the development tablets for years headlines make deals was it their lan anal deadline the deadline is the season opener that's why I said I don't trip into he's not there the Wednesday before she starts been a concern deadlines make deals when the ticket mark is low is done right before that day or so before his the French estate was gone the you know they were they were going to be able to a long term deal he's don't play on that day deadlines to the cowboys make deals it is a real deadline if you don't if there's cowboys in a preseason game at eighteen carries for fifty five yards average of just over three yards per carry along this rush from scrimmage was nine yards through the running game goes from here straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart straight ahead what about a baby or general native ESPN radio it's only around just wants to make a big deal about himself on hard knocks and make this a bunch of drama the Pittsburgh Steelers look genius.

"Throws and all that stuff making the far hash throw to the sideline whose arm would you? Take to put on our Bill to quarterback. I'm gonna mention three guys here. I'm going to kind of cheat. I mean, drew law has the velocity. And the downfield pass ability of is going to get people excited, and he sort of showed that down in mobile. It's a reason why he was Kuypers QB one headed into this year after last year's drafted so Tyree Jackson. You know, one of the great things about being down in mobile is the chances of bounce ideas off other people and I remember on Thursday Jackson made a throw in the end zone. And I thought it was really slow. But then so lack turn to be like, but when you have the hammer and Jackson has the hammer, and let's not forget, his lower body mechanics are mess. Jim really needs to get that cleaned up. He's straight legs everything which happens talk quarterbacks use every inch of six seven. And so when you over stride, you lock up that front leg breaks, the throwing chamber between the upper and lower body, and it causes a dip and philosophy. So if he fixed this that it's like happy learn to putt. He's gonna start. No, really dialing up the philosophy. And then when you factor in the ability to make throws from any ridiculous platfo. Known to humankind. You have to talk about Carter Murray when he gets drafted whether it's one six seven thirteen fourteen they're gonna show that throwing hat against Alabama. Where he throws a post route fifty five yards downfield and his feet aren't even on the ground. You know, and the ability to do that from any platform is impressive and it needs to happen for quarterbacks as days NFL because defensive ends defensive lineman. They're taught to mirror the quarterback at the hands up. So you need to sort of drop arm angles and for Mario quarterback of his size. He's going to have to do that. Because he's going to face those incidents in the pocket when he had to create a Frewin lane. And if you can't do it with your feet, you need to do with your arm, and he can do that. And we talked a lot about Kyle Murray on the cubes go show episode thirteen go back and check that out. So what we have there? From velocity standpoint, you got the arm of drew lock with the potential of Tari Jackson iffy is able to clean up those lower body mechanics off platform, you want a guy like Murray, and I complete. Atley agree with those assessments right there. What about frame who's got the ba-, you know, NFL evaluators teams love a big sturdy quarterback that can take kits and absorbed contact, and you don't have to worry about him from a physical perspective. I'm not sure if the data on injury history really backs that up, but it's definitely how NFL teams think who has the most NFL ready quote unquote frame in his draft class. I mean in terms of frame to easy picture..

"The every go does the record. Now does the record Goto blocked versus missed field goal. The article that I just pulled this up from does indicate that yes, the NFL has changed. The ruling. Interesting. All right. They're still doing something in the NFL. That drives me nuts and. I've corrected to things in the NFL tra- the upright. I got the uprights raised and the other thing I did was get them to fix overtime. Overtime used to be first person. You know, you win. The coin toss you go down. This guy kicks us sixty hard field goal, you leave. And I said why should it be settled with a coin toss? And with the range, especially if you're playing in a dome or Denver or something like that. Where people routinely can kick fifty five yard field goals. You win. The coin toss you complete a couple of passes. And then just go kick kick the field goal and other team doesn't get to put their offense on the field. Right. Because of the coin toss what what what kind of that's not precise. So I always said. If you go down and kick a field goal. The other teams should get a chance to come out on the field. If you can go punch it into the end zone, then so be it leave with the victory. And that's what they change it to. Thank you. You're welcome. Call the Corolla ruling. But I'll tell you one thing they still need to fix drew. It's happened in a lot of these games. They do the premature whistle. And then we don't know who would have recovered the fumble or how to advance a fumble. And it's like it's a play that's happening at one hundred miles an hour. The receiver catches the ball, it appears he's taking a step or two. But the defender has his hand intertwined in the receivers, and he rips the ball and now the balls loose and the is blowing the whistle and everyone stops. And it's like don't blow the whistle. See what happens? Maybe it's a catch. Maybe it's not a catch. Maybe it's an incomplete maybe it's a bubble. But if you blow the whistle will never know who would have recovered it who would have picked it up. What would have happened? I've been yelling about this real years. It's so close it's such a split second. It happened. So many times that oh it was able what is in it for you. Now. I know you're trying to cut down on injuries. And when the plays over the plays over, but this this is happening heartbeat. You have no. Oh idea in real time. What exactly has happened? If you blow the whistle. A great plays. No game. Swing has has has has a foot. Yes. Gary Gary shaky is head. You're you're I think you're referencing the game at the end of the first half of the eagles. Gago eagles game. And they came out today. And it was eliminated that there's a weird rule where technically after that review. The reason that the ball was ruled incomplete was because no one went over and picked it up. Even after the whistle. If one of the team one of the players had walked over and pick the ball up. It would have been there ball after review, but because the official picked up the ball. It's ruled incomplete which is so silly don't blow the whistle. I couldn't agree more. Also, the other thing that drives me nuts. The football move. First off. You're in a uniform you're on a field. You've made a football move. You are things sings he caught the ball. But he didn't make a foot. It's like he's got a catch ball. He's gotta turn. He's got. No he caught the ball period. And then he got stripped of all, right? But he didn't make a football, man. Hey, guess what? What catching a football is Dr football move. I would call that by definition. Yes. If some guy throws the ball to you and you catch it and it's on a football field. That's a football move. Here's what I'm sort of a star by the rule is I've said this million times everyone cousin Sal laughs us, ask insane person..
