WSOP Field Sizes Are Dropping
"I know i said the wsb gets a pass on field sizes in a year over year comparison because things have changed dramatically since twenty twenty however last year's fields was two thousand one hundred twenty six centuries from fourteen hundred hundred fifty. Five weeks seems awful. Yeah it feels like a really steep drop off right there. And i know that we talked about it and i was thinking something like maybe like a thirty percent. Drop off. I think would been good and acceptable. Just based upon the fact of everything that's going on in poker right now that having that kind of field size would still be good but this does feel quite thin for championship. Event as a sixty two percent drop year over year in total entries. That's that's ugly no matter what. The circumstances are surprised that low. I did have it being over a thousand. Maybe getting closer to fifteen hundred total entries but Just seem to be a sort of a. Instead of being the exclamation point at the end of the series. It was kind of a hard thud. Couple of other events wrapped up in the closing days mitchell harrison. Brad's osman and dancing. Lar- winning the finale though event to run after the championship event all in all. I think he's probably pretty happy with with word. Got out of it. It seems like there was maybe far less appetite than even they'd predicted given all the different changes so We're gonna see what happens with the gp stuff which is now underway. They started just as w dot com is wrapping up. Gee-gee was sort of hitting the gas pedal on there's the fifty dollar buying kickoff event called the return man i'm going to butcher. This dudes bart lumpia bata. Oh man. that's really good. I think that's really good. I think you didn't really got okay. There's a hockey player with a similar name on relied on my my childhood memory hockey players. I was waiting with baited breath to see what would come out of your mouth. Very give call him. I'm going to call them bar because that's only fair to him cops. A thirty thousand eight hundred ten entry field takes him one hundred sixty thousand dollars not bad for fifty bucks. Yeah not bad at all. You know Last year the the field size was good too. I know last year the opener for the events it was double the buyin one hundred dollar opener and they got twenty nine thousand three hundred six runners. And so this this. I know it's a difference in half of the buy-in but still for field size. I think that's a pretty good

Yeah he's got six and a half million live career winnings and that doesn't include his online stuff what she's known as an online player that's where he came from. The hand is against bruno volkmann who is not as accomplished but has about a million in live earnings and probably some online stuff too. I would guess yeah. That's about all right. So volkmann is the effective stack has got seven point. Three million at the one hundred and forty k. Blind level so. We're pretty deep here where we're at fifty bucks effective cool. He's gonna open the action from the small blind slash button with seven eight off. He's going to make it three hundred and twenty two k. But at this stacked up. I mostly want to call. Yeah protect your range. Protect my range. I can't wait to fold this. Yeah it sucks then. I'm like turn evaluate hand into a bluff. Hate that you have to have some hands that you're okay without question no question but like we with worse aces if i wanted to. We can do that with kings honestly like king nine king eight those meetings we could do it with to those also play very well as a call triple. We want to have some course three. Yeah also by three. I Bought It. Why Can't I Fix It?
"Several years ago journalists and kepler was on his very first work trip. He was an intern. Us news and world report. At the time he was excited. We did carry okay the first day and i got a little bit drunk. Nothing crazy but i fell asleep with my laptop in my bed watching comedy or something like on netflix. When jason woke up the laptop had moved down to the end of the bed without him realizing it and what happened next. Has that painful almost slow motion quality that anyone who is broken anything expensive knows all too well kicked it off the edge of the bed and the lcd broke on on me laptops. So the screen wasn't broken but if you opened it was just us all kinds of crazy colors and tickets be apple store and they wanted seven hundred dollars exit money that jason. An intern did not have so. We figured why not try to fix this thing myself he went on ebay and found a replacement. Lcd screen for fifty bucks. A fraction of the price that apple had quoted him and then he found some instructions online. It actually took me like ten hours to do like couldn't get the screen off. And i remember at one point. It was like four in the morning. And i grabbed in exacto knife which is not something you want to take the wires but i was just so frustrated and i just couldn't get the screen off to put the new one end eventually jason fixed screen and he used that computer for six years but the experience opened his eyes to a really important story in the tech world. One that he's been covering ever since it made me think like. Why does it cost so much to do this. It costs so much to get a device repaired by the manufacturer. And it's so hard to do it yourself because manufacturers from apple to samsung to microsoft. John deere make it that way.
Warehouse Manager Sells Twitter-Threads-as-a-Service
"That hugh alexander works as a retail warehouse manager by day. When he isn't thinking about the logistics of his job he's hanging out online looking for inspiration and ideas yet he also knows an idea is just the starting point making something in marketing. It is win. The real battle begins that was never more evident than his first attempt at starting a profitable project you had the technical know how to make a website but he fell short on finding an audience at least until matthew started noticing twitter threats now twitter threads for those who aren't familiar are a series of related tweets that tell a story or elaborate on a topic when two hundred and eighty characters isn't enough. Some people share their best tweets or connecting. Anything they feel requires the additional text for example. A thread might include a series of exercise tips or tips to improve your business. In a specific way it might be political commentary. It could be anything. In relation to matthews project. He'd seen a lot of twitter threads go viral and helped to significantly boost the poster's profile in number of followers with that audience. They could monetize their service and products at least potentially so he said about trying it for himself with his accounts and lo and behold things improved. He didn't set the world on fire overnight but his follower numbers increased after he started posting threats. Forever business-minded matthew. You saw an opportunity if twitter threads worked for others as well as himself might people be willing to pay for a service that wrote the threats for them. It was an unusual idea so he said about testing the concept. He purchased the domain name. Taas dot co that stands for twitter threads as a service and used a free website. Builder called card to launch. The site quickly card intern allowed for easy. Integration with stripe to process payments after customers paid macua. Direct them to a google form or they answered a few questions about their business objectives. That was all it took to be up and running for a cost of well under one hundred dollars being part of online communities such as indie. Hackers made validation a little easier. Matthew simply tugged on the strings and hopes of selling his twitter threads service. It didn't take too long to find his first customer and he charged fifty bucks for the first month in exchange he create ten threads and also offer scheduling as well as performance reports. Matthew analyzed customers content and audience but before actually doing the work. He made a confession. He told that customer they were his first one and he'd be using their account to learn feeling bad about it. Even offered a fifty percent refund on the purchase price. It turns out he needed to have worried. Because after the first month they were happy and wanted to keep going
How Poker Coach Chris Wallace First Got in the Game
"I started really hard for six months and Started playing online That was right when online started. I was planning like planet poker. Which is i think the first on a real real money website And was winning. As soon as i started Six months before. I had never played a hint of oldham in my life and and by the time that six months was up. I was making too much money to go to work. Now i would. I would make one hundred and fifty bucks a night. Driving cabin mc two hundred if i played poker instead so i could drive in cabin started playing poker and that was like nineteen or twenty years ago or something. That was my last job. It's funny how familiar. That sounds to me because i was younger than you. A decade younger but i was working applebee's nineteen and found poker and i took the theory of bucher oldham for advanced players. Because that's of course. That's where i would start because those books back then. Why wouldn't i start for advanced players. I'm obviously a smart person at nineteen and need the advanced version. I and super nobody wants to read a hold them for people who aren't good at broker. Well there was a poker for dummies. I think back then to I pass that up. Because i wanted to advance players And super system and every day. I would bring it to work and get to work an hour early and read and then i would stay in our after my shift and read more poker and with this just mindset of being held bent on being a professional booker player And that was all. I thought about and that was all right so i it just funny to me as i see myself in your story like it's just the the immersion the same books and just the mindset right.
Low Rolling at High-Limit Craps
"Are some of your suggestions for a low limit player at a high limit. Craps table okay. Here's the first thing i'm going to say. I'm going to preface all my suggestions by saying this okay. The very first thing you need to do is set some restrictions on yourself so this may not work for everybody because you have to know your own self and you may not be able to live with restrictions. Okay but you do have to have some restrictions. If you're gonna do this number one restriction is you have to set a time when you're gonna give up or leave okay. Let's say you say. Well if i double my money i'm leaving okay so it might not by lose all my buy-in i'm leaving right or if i lose half my by in i'm leaving you just have to have some well defined definition of when you're gonna leave because if you say i'm just going to stay here for eight hours. Well playing with a limited bankroll at a higher limitation. It's eventually going to eat you up right. So you're not thinking in terms of time necessarily but in event once you fit this event in an event then you walk. Your time is limited. Play thirty minutes. And i'll be happy with that and leave okay. Maybe you can do that if it's a short time maybe okay but you can't say i'm going to say here all day and play this table. It's not going to happen crafts. Okay right eventually. You'll lose eventually gonna hit a bad streak and you're going to be out because as we know. Craps is a game of ups and downs. And honestly you're really sitting there hoping for the big role the big role and a lot of times. There's only one big role in session or a day or a day. Or maybe none allen but you're hoping for that big role so you're wanting enough of a bankroll that you can wait it out right so you can wade through the bad role. This is a very general statement about crabs. That would apply to anybody exactly anybody nope no matter what. But if you're on a limited bankroll it's even more important because you have this limited bankrupt. The second thing i want to say is that you probably should define amount of money that you think you can live with. Now if you're playing on a twenty five dollar table and you think well. I'm a low roller into buying with one hundred bucks. Well there's no way to play on that table with one hundred bucks okay or something. Just you put fifty bucks out there. You make to bats at seven out in your money half gone and you know you could be gone really really quit right so i think that really played twenty five dollar table. You're going to need between three and five hundred dollar

Save Money by Going Reusable
"Go reusable. You can tell the up some major savings just by opting for products that are reusable instead of single use about it. How many gas station water bottles have you bought this month or dago water bottles. I mean even if you're just buying a water bottle once a week you're spending one hundred fifty bucks per year unjust plastic. Do yourself a favor and by the twenty dollar reusable water bottle and fill it up all the time. There are so many everyday things we can swap with reusable counterparts bringing your own bags to the grocery store instead of using the plastic ones which will save you some money in states. Like new york where you're charged fee forgetting bags at checkout and plus their way more comfortable to walk with you can put way more stuff in there and you can bring your own coffee mug to starbucks. You can use a dish towel instead of a whole bunch of paper towels and okay. I hate using a crusty dish towel as much as the next gal or guy but newsflash. It's twenty twenty one nasty dish. Rags are things of the past. They now make dish towels that come with soap in the micro fibers. So you don't have to also by dish soap which yes comes in a plastic bottle so instead of buying a multi pack of paper towels three times a month you have a one and done dish towel. Purchase that you can throw in with your laundry and it's good as new

Why Agencies Are Great Entry Points Into Entrepreneurship but Difficult to Scale
"It's interesting that you have a technical co founder gear technical. It's also interesting that you just had an agency for a long time and now your product. I feel like that transition is one that so many people wanna make but just never quite get there. It's hard it's really hard. Why because the money's too good it's like a really high high like you get paid a lot to see work and it feels good and you get the money today. No one in my sas is offering me fifteen thousand dollars today right like it's just not the case they sign up for fifty bucks or thirty bucks or whatever you know like and so. It's very slow long crime which is great because it's very stable and whatever but it doesn't have that rush agency life is like oh you hit a big contract and this big chunk of cash the bank account and you go out and have drinks and you're just like we're doing a project for insert large company name. You know like right. There's that kind of rush to. It's really hard to say. Don't go out and celebrate. Let's focus on this product. That's going to release a year. And then you and then we'll slowly get some customers then in a couple of years after thousand day rule stuff. Who wants to do that when you go make five hundred bucks today so one of the theories on the show that we will out often is like if you're like you and you feel like you're wired to be a hustler and entrepreneur that the easiest way to get that done and to create. A sustainable pneumatic income. Is to essentially start a agency or even more focused prototype service. Do you believe that to be true. I mean it's definitely the easy way in. I think that the product is service is better than the regular agency like. I loved that that kind of came about. We never really transitioned to that. Kinda like showed up a little bit after us. We of did some things like that with some of our customers. since we were doing wholesale rip for other agencies. We did have a very like priced out. You know like this is how much it is for the customer press team and this is how much it is if you had a forum and this is how much it is. If you skin out a shop in store but it wasn't truly productized. Like are now. So i would definitely say that if you're gonna go with client work. That product is is the way to go. Because then you at least have a chance at scaling. The promise it's even that's really hard to scale. I mean even the people that we know that have really scaled product is. You're still running an agency like you can tell yourself you're not running agency but you're you're still running an agency. There's a lot of human capital involved. It's really still really hard to
Customizable Nail Art Designs With Color Camp
"Kirby gear nails young girl. Check these out. Wow others flowers on there. Are those present want. Yeah they're daisies. Those are amazing. Who makes them there from color camp owing love love. yeah so color. Camp is a nail salon based here in la. And it's on. Beverly obviously they were closed for a majority of the pandemic and they kind of pivoted their business. Now they have this lake booming. Press on glue on business. They're not cheap. They're like fifty bucks or so depending on what you get if you get nail art and stuff. But i'd ordered a pair from them. Before and i thought it was a really cool concept like they send you these little clear acrylic process to try and you measure them to all your nails and then you go online and you like okay. My thumb is an eight. My index finger is a seven. And you do it individually for each hand so like one of my thumbs. The nail bed is smaller than the other thumb. So it's like okay. Cool great and then i'm an idiot and i measured them to small and i wrote them and told them like hey like i'm actually in pain wearing these thales. What to do. And they're just they were really. Oh we're going up your sizes and send you a new pack. So they did and then they threw in like an extra one. There was like wait. This is great customer service. So then i ordered again and they're reusable glue on so if one popular like file your nail and glue it back on in your good can hear that and some of it all. But they're super. Long the i was gonna say unless you're like cardi b. kylie jenner and have an assistant. How are you using your dawn power. Wash washing dishes with those nails

Wet Notes for 2-28-21
"This is wet notes on scuba shaq radio for sunday february twenty eighth two thousand and twenty one. Well i up today. I'm going to do an update on dry suit talq now ever since i've owned a dry suit i've been using those little pouches of talk to dust my wrist seals and neck seals. And that makes it easier to put on especially if it gets a little humid. Well we used to get these little pouches from magnet who then became gear aid when we could no longer get them from juried. We switched to getting them from diving unlimited international or dui. Recently we ran low on these talca pouches. Wanted to order some more. But do you. I stopped producing those talk pouches. I guess i'm guessing near some concern around. The safety of talk i noticed has been in news over recent years. So donna reached out to peak from dui and he suggested cornstarch to dust are seals. Make sure you do it every time now. That sounds a little strange to me. But it looks like people are using it in place of the talq. We'll give it a try. And i'll let you know how goes cornstarch. It's not just for cooking next up. Is things start opening up and we travel outside the country. We're going to need to get tested for in nineteen before we can come back well. Resorts are out there. And they're starting to accommodate their customers and making it easier to get tested. So for example. I just saw where enroll roett to resorts. The turquoise bay dive resort and the mayan princess beach dive resort are offering onsite cova testing on thursdays and fridays. And then what happens. Is you'll get electronic. Results are available in three hours. And then you'll have a hard copy the next day now you still have to pay for it in a costs about fifty bucks. Then i also check the cocoa view site down there and roett tan and it looks like they are also offering onsite testing but their prices coming in at eighty five dollars so it looks like if you're going to travel to row attend you'll find it easier to get tested for corona virus and get back home as long as you test negative but i think more and more of these dive operators out there are going to provide that cova testing or options for people so that you can go travel and then make it easier for you to get back home. Also last i think a couple of weeks ago. The president of the united states signed executive order. One three nine eight and with that executive order it mandated. That masks are to be worn on all public maritime vessels including ferries. What does that mean for dive boats. Well deana did. Some research and found out that this mandate includes commercial vessels used for dive charters and dive related activities. You'll need to be masked up upon boarding disembarking and the duration of travel. Obviously this can only apply to us. Operators i think this makes sense and i'm sure common sense will prevail given our unique circumstances when we go diving way back in the beginning of two thousand twenty i did a segment on dive travel insurance then in mid two thousand and twenty. I noticed the divers alert network. Dan their travel insurance was not available on their website is back now. However there was a short article on dive newswire that indicated that there are qualified cove in nineteen related cancellation and interruptions covered. There's a lot of detail on their website. You can read through. Essentially they cover prepaid travel arrangements. If you your host at your destination you traveling companion or family member test positive for covid. Nineteen there's also levels of coverage while traveling but you need to do your research. The good news however is that the dan travel insurance is back and it looks like they are helping to try and address the corona virus issues. It's always a good day when i go out to the mailbox and that the latest issue of the journal of diving history has arrived. That happened earlier this week. The cover of the first quarter two thousand twenty one magazine features to five women who made up the team of tech tight to mission six dash fifty. Which was america's first off female saturation team. The five women included peggy lucas. An hurley hotline renata lynch true elena schmidt and sylvia earle the journal of diving history. Formerly historical. diver magazine is the official magazine of the historical diving society. Usa and is part of your membership. I can't wait to dive into all the articles i saw. The other day that there's been a an oil spill off the coast of israel and lebanon and it's impacting over one hundred miles of coastline. Now what's a little disconcerting about this is that they don't know where this is coming from this washing up on the beaches. It's the seems like there's some sort of gag order on the release of information. I'm just not sure why there was. Also a thin whale washed up on the beach apparently with oil in its loans. They say this is undoing. Much of the progress made over the last thirty years. Let's hope they figure out where this is coming from or where it came from. And if they're able to minimize the impacts and finally here's some really big news in the scuba industry especially related to scuba tanks. Luxembourg is getting out of the aluminum tank business on february twenty third. Luxor held their fourth quarter and full year. Two thousand and twenty analysts call and that's where they announced their divestiture of their aluminum product lines now. The rationale according to their press release is that they wanted to focus on high performance magnesium alloys zirconium catalysts and high pressure composite cylinders. Guess to profit margin. Just wasn't there on the aluminum tanks. They plan on selling those two aluminum forming operations in the united states and one in the in the uk. But we don't know who they're going to sell it to just yet more to come on. This is it as it. Unfolds now luxembourg. They produced a lot of tanks. And there's a lot of them out there and we're going to see what that does to the supply chain as we move forward. Well that's it for wet notes for february twenty eighth two thousand and twenty one here on scuba shock radio

Creating a website with Wix
"So the hot is are now in full swing. And you've got so much free time on your hands ready to tackle creating that new website or blog. well yeah. It's a daunting project but online tools of the last several years. Now make it much easier than in the past with dragon drop options that can let you create something that looks really good within a few hours that is of course once you've mastered the basics of how the programs work if you listen to podcasts. You've heard the words wordpress squarespace and wicks frequent advertisers. On many shows. Telling you how easy it is to make a cool website now. Wordpress targeted towards tech nerds. Who don't need support while squarespace in wicks or for the rest of us. I have been unhappy with the look of my wordpress photography blog for some time and i wanted a fresh start so i was inspired to give a try by my friend. Ed beg who after he left. Usa today started a wickes website and blog. That i think looks fantastic. So i went off to create a new blog on wits in a few days. That may not look as great as ads but it. I think it's clearly more appealing to the eye than what i have with wordpress. Now before you go down this rabbit hole know that wicks can be used for free however your web address will have wicks and the name and you'll have wicks branding all over the site and once you decide that you're serious. You're not going to want to have this free site anymore. You're gonna wanna pay to remove the branding and get your own personalized demeaning. The other thing to note is that once you have your blog you have to pay someone to host it to have it online and boy is. There are a lot of fine print. You can see that there are companies like go daddy host dream host. That will charge you anywhere from five to ten dollars monthly to way more depending on the size of your site but that introductory rate is just that introductory wait. They will jack you up afterwards. Dream host for instance advertisers array to four dollars monthly or about fifty bucks for the first year jumping to one hundred twenty dollars in the second year for me. What's even worse. Is that go daddy. The plan i have now is advertised. That thirteen dollars monthly. But because i'm several years into the contract. I've been bumped up to twenty dollars monthly or two hundred and forty dollars a year. So yeah. I'm interested in leaving. Wicks in squarespace both offer hosting as well as website and blog creation tools for the masses support and they don't offer introductory pricing so i like that squarespace rates start at twelve dollars. Go to forty dollars. Monthly wicks starts at fourteen dollars and those to about forty dollars monthly as well but a big difference squarespace will offer you unlimited storage for photos which is a big deal. Since we can't run our posts without photos wicks doesn't offer unlimited photo storage it offers three gigabytes of storage the fourteen dollar rate ten gigabytes at the dollar rate two hundred gigs the twenty-three dollar rate and i don't know what any of that means because how many pictures are going to fit in a gig and wicks doesn't have a tool for you to see how much storage you've used now. I love the ease of creating a site with wicks. I love the many design options and the fact that it's potentially more affordable way more versatile than what i have with go daddy but the storage could be an issue. What happens if you start running out of room. Well i think you know the answer. You have to start paying more money. If you're at the eighteen dollar eight monthly. you're gonna have to go to twenty three dollars monthly. Meanwhile we'll i switch from wordpress to wicks while i'm leaning in that direction as again i prefer the look and the tools to expand beyond what i have now but i do post a lot of photos. It is a photography blog after all. So it's something i have to consider. I will let you know my decision within the next few days
