"Seems like he was kind of dude to like to show force. I maybe And and that's a terrible approach for a police commissioner I think prioritized befriending the community not declaring war on them not being a quote unquote butcher. On. March fifth, just two days after the beating Sergeant Stacey Koon Laurence, Powell officer Timothy Wind officer, Theodore Rosetto arrested they're charged with assault and with using excessive force. On March, Eighth Steven Lerman attorney for Rodney King displays a photo of his client or in a press conference at his office in Beverly. Hills King's doctor outlined the extent of the man's injuries for reporters. During the meeting king alleged, she'd suffered eleven, skull fractures, permanent brain damage broken bones, and teeth, kidney failure, and emotional physical trauma. On March Fifteenth La County Grand Jury indictment unsealed charging the four officers seen in the video with felony assault and use of excessive force six days. Later, the four officers plead not guilty. On November twenty sixth, the officers trial was moved to Simi Valley receive alley excuse me after the court determined that the cases massive publicity and the highly charged political environment might not allow for the officers to receive a fair trial. But the place they move it to Seamy valley was a nearly all white suburb thirty miles north of downtown La and home to a large number of LAPD officers many outraged and rightfully so. It seems like is going to be a kangaroo court march fifth nineteen ninety-two to try the trial begins the jury has no members who are entirely black is composed of nine white Americans three women six men one biracial man one Latino woman one Asian. American. Woman interestingly The biracial men? Henry, King half white half black raised by a white mother and black father looked white enough to have the media initial report is being white and in two thousand seventeen. Henry was interviewed by ABC about the verdict he and the other jurors came to and he said. The beating tape didn't look good. It looked bad but it was as far as I was concerned, it wasn't against the law and then I couldn't convict him because to me they were doing what they were supposed to do, and while the majority of US felt the same way at the trial. Henry interesting figure turn down interviews for years and years then took this one with ABC because after years of reflection, he wanted to share some long held thoughts he also said. I just wanted people to know you know that we weren't just white racists and wanted to find all those police officers innocence because if they if I felt that they broke the law, I would have found him guilty in a second. So I just wanted I. Really wanted people to know that the people that are on that the jurors that were on the trial where human beings and we weren't, and we were just doing the best that we could as I grew older I kept wanting i. just wanted us all is Rodney King said, let's all get along and what I. Wanted everybody just to not have this prejudice and get along with no matter what race you are, what background you are. That's why that's why I wanted to. I wanted to do this interview I wanted to let people know they were all human beings and there were all trying to do the right thing. So interesting perspective I thought it was important it according to the only man in the jury who at least partially African American The you know he's saying that they didn't let officers off because they were racist and just didn't care that a black man had been beaten. Moving on the jury the prosecutor Terry White also black hit a tough job ahead of him, he felt all of the potential jurors seemed to be very pro law enforcement during his opening statement for the prosecution March fifth. Deputy district attorney white played the entire holiday videotape of kings beating this March Fifth Nineteen ninety-two jers would see the same tape over and over before the trial is finished the prosecution used CHP officer Melanie Singer for its star witness king would not testify. He was too drunk to remember much about the beating and put him on the stand would open up to cross examination about his prior criminal offenses. Moreover, prosecutors prosecutors feared king would lose his temper during cross examination antagonized jurors. CHP officer Melanie Singer testified officer Powell came up to the right of king in a matter of seconds he took out his baton. He had a power swing and he struck the drive across the top of his cheekbone splitting the face from the top of his ear to his chin. Asked by white whether there are. Is there any reason for the strike to the head officer Time? He struck him singer answered in my opinion? No Sir. There was no reason for it pretty damning when a fellow officer testifies, what you did was fucked up and unnecessary. There was no reason for you to be that violent. other prosecution witnesses focused their testimony on statements by Powell that suggested his callousness or worse to emergency room nurses testify concerning conversation at the hospital between Powell and King Lawrence. Davis said that Powell compared to beating to a good hard ball game and boasted the he had quite a few home runs. Your nurse Carol Edwards claimed also to have heard Powell's hardball remark and added that he said we won and you lost or something to that effect. So this guy seems like fucking asshole to very least. The wrong guy to be police officers seems like a piece of shit but not necessarily racist. Humanity, you might have been an equal opportunity fucking abuser authority. A March seventeenth the prosecution is two weeks into the trial. The defense keeps going midway through testimony of the defendants prosecutors began to realize they might lose a case as they relied too much on video evidence didn't take into account other factors like the testimony of the officers. The verdict is announced on April two, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety to. Three Fifteen PM Sergeant Stacey Koon, and officer Laurence Powell Theodore J. Timothy Wind are acquitted of assault and acquitted of excessive force on Rodney. King Jurors were not convinced that the eighty-one second videotape of the incident represented the entire story they debated the officers fade for seven days. The easily acquitted wind and Briseno debated about coons responsibility most of the discussion focused on Powell's actions. Agers wanted to acquit Paul of all charges. But in the end they were unable to persuade the others on one of the assault charges. the verdict is read in angry Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, denounced it as senseless declaring the jury's verdict will never blind the world to what we saw on the videotape..

"Traffic tickets and you need someone to address it at the ticket counter like there are some saying. I'm saying the same the same way that we are going into grocery stores and essential needs and places of that nature. There's gloves there's mask you would think that that's going to be the case going forward anywhere that people go. Where gloves masks as you're entering into those buildings well that's certainly part of the the other part is. I think just to keep the numbers as low as possible. That's what I'm saying. So that's what I'm saying. So zero is the most manageable number. If I learned zero people I absolutely have happened. Where Loom five thousand instead of twenty. Yeah it's a more manageable number than if it's regular but if I had zero I don't need to worry about any of that other players and that's true so if that's the case then we shouldn't be worried about whether or not fans are going to be in the building right. I mean if if if it's zero situation and let it be zero but trying to figure out how we can give fans building. Then there's ways to give fans in the building if you WanNa do you guys ever been to a game. I'll use an example when I lived in Houston back in twenty ten. The Astros were the worst team in baseball and they were losing over one hundred games a year every year and we would go to an astros game a handful of times a year and you could literally sit wherever you wanted. There couldn't have been five thousand people in that ballpark. And this is a ballpark holds upwards of forty thousand people. It is a weird experience being in a professional venue like that with a minor league type of crowd. Czar so obviously. You didn't go to clippers when they played sports perfect example or or you to visit me and nineteen ninety six when I was with the jets. Five thousand people. There man I played against Arizona Cardinals in Arizona. I believe it was the lowest crowd in. You may look it up. I think I believe it was the lowest crowd in NFL history. It was something like eight thousand people in the stand roof man. It was crazy I was. It looked like it looked like pre game before the pre-game warmups. The good news is football. Doesn't have this but Astra's games. If you wanted a foul ball you got one all. You had to wait because eventually there's going to be hit one in your general section where the road the other five other guys and they all had one by the two. I remember telling the kids. Hey if you don't get a foul ball at the end of this game it's because you didn't want one my son. My oldest who I think was ten at the time I think. He came home with half a dozen. Baseball's IT was a joke. I'm telling you the clippers at the sports arena are just remembered like it was yesterday we would by the Cheetah House which obviously is the top corner next to the light bulbs can we wind up sitting in down below basic league on a damn floor at the end of the day. Of course it was just because it was always empty unless the bulls less the bulls or the Lakers right or Boston. Sixers East Coast teams came to town. That's the only time that tickets would was crazy other than that. You can walk around no problem at all. So baseball's got their cottage cheese and plays. Football is putting some place and then there was this story on. Espn DOT COM this morning from Dade McMenamin that the Lakers are in touch with the LA. Mayor's Office to talk about opening their practice facility before the May Fifteenth La is under a shelter in place order until may fifteenth the ESPN should say the NBA facilities the NBA wants to open their stuff on. "Still getting new names of people who are catching this damn virus and some of them are athletes now. Apparently Denver Broncos Star linebacker form are super both Fifty Mvp von. Miller is the second act of NFL player to test positive for covert nineteen. He says he's doing well and self isolating at home. And here's a telling. Today's show is Chanel Jones about his experience. Battling this virus after saying he'd been taking it seriously once they were training in San Francisco and whatever Cisco went on lockdown. He immediately went back to Denver. He he took the seriously from the beginning. I've been hearing never for about four weeks now and within that four weeks out probably to house four times all of those with all those four times. I never got out the cars drive to pick up to come back home so I really just been taking a serious staying at home. Of course have people come in. You know in and out like workers maids people to come to the plumbing just every day stuff but it was it was really nothing crazy but I call in You know here today and he does say before that That he does have asthma but You know he thought he had a weird coffee nebulizer and it didn't work so then. He decided he needed to get tested for something. That didn't have anything to do with asthma. Hey Brian are you as upset over the face masks that linemen wear I know Vence Pass rusher. But I'm talking about offensive Lineman. I've watched all I watch these. Mock draft shows when. I grow in my rowing machine and they showed the big tackle from Lsu and he's got the drop mask if all the drop quarterback cage you know like back see. There's two ways you could tell what position a guy plays in football l. By the number and buy it used to be able to tell by the facemask. I had the big cage. I've been really line down the middle. Yeah and there was a big one. There was like a squared off. Birdcage won an even a bigger one. And you knew who played the. It started with the least contact guy in the world. Those were those were the kickers. Those were the punters and kickers. They had like a single bars. They had almost slung. Low Cross their low across across the chin. Then the second sort of lease contact guys like the quarterbacks and they had a little little bigger but not all that much better than they had the running backs and every once in a while there was a running back that would wear the one with the crossbar or there was a like the Larry Czanka one which had like the bull ring on it. You could tell what position guys played by their face. Mass Dow almost everyone wears his same kind of drop thing including the interior line. Guys and my child's going to have to open world with almost no differences in face mask and I don't WanNa live in that world so you say your child you mean to tell you. A studies addie interest. It's of course I used to obsess on facemask with teams wore which style which guys ran. Which ones and there was always like. There's always somebody. There were couple of guys in the seventies who even had like the old school gale gale. Sayers type or the OJ Simpson OJ. Simpson had like the one he wore in college like that. Same kind of to bar weird thing. That was like every football helmet lamp from the Seventies. Had just that that on it was like a standard thing. Now everyone's got the same one. What is on Miller wear handed the same kind of drop drop one? You know what you know what never took what had a a short run and surprisingly didn't last was the visor like shades on me like a real like advantage for running backs this up. You couldn't see if they're lucky and they're looking at the linebacker there. Were you know what I mean? Silent at the defense like Damian Thomasson word that is very clear I think they made a rule that it has to be clear. Ozal your head injury thing you think. No they had a clear. Let's see we talked about it once when it came to the offensive Lineman on Cleveland. Brown was injured in the eye or something like that. Yes yes so. They said they didn't want so. Jim McMahon war one but they couldn't see couldn't read his face. It wasn't good for TV. It couldn't be the guys. Well you think about those shots. Tom Brady. You know like in the shotgun where they get right up on his face and you can see him surveying defense and and all that and they wouldn't work that Kinda Darth vader thing but I do think skill guys some of this. Go guys have the clearer? Just a clear plastic now does seem like it at seventy competitive advantage like if Tom Brady were to wear the Jim McMahon. You couldn't read. The quarterbacks is him size at the Defense. Like that's a that's a competitive edge. Yeah but what I'm saying is I don't think they have smoked one now. They just have the clear you physically couldn't get a fingernail in the I don't like Like you get grandfathered in hockey and you don't feel like we're in a face mask. Well there was a there was a time when some guy there so initially. Nobody had a face mask. Then some guys had a face mask and it was. Kinda like hockey and then there was a point in the league probably five years. Where like guys some guys. Some guys didn't there's also weird thing in like the forties or the fifties where they had a clear. Alexi face with all kind of make sense like you can see through the plan that was going around the guy's face but it probably wasn't nearly strong enough either way so all right so Restaurant I like von Miller and he he has your David so far and he's like. I woke up thirty minutes ago just to do this so I think. He's struggling a little but But he he looks pretty good New York and other East Coast states have extended their shutdown to may fifteenth La Mayor. Garcetti says the ban on large gatherings specifically Could last into next year which we talked about a little bit. What you just mentioned. Adam is the big headline lately and I Bet. Vinnie is just. I told you sewing all over the place. The New York Times along with lots of other news outlets are reporting that obesity may be the most important Predator of severe corona virus illness. According to a new study though people with obesity frequently have other medical problems the new study points that the condition in and of itself as the most significant risk factor for old age for being hospital hospitalized with cove in nineteen the research is preliminary not peer reviewed but it supports what so many doctors are saying no one knows. Obesity makes cove in nineteen worst but the three leading theories are one. Some current virus patients with obesity may already have compromised respiratory function be to abdominal obesity. Can CAUSE COMPRESSION OF THE DIAPHRAGM. The lungs and the chest capacity and three obesity is known to cause chronic low grade inflammation and an increase in circulating pro. Inflammatory cytokines. Your time at the sign storm the other day which may worsen things so. I mean it kind of adds up. We're going to have to do something about obesity and it's GonNa have to. We're going to have to declare war on it like we would do on smallpox or malaria. Or whatever we you know. I don't know you know like when AIDS was killing everyone it was like we gotta tell everyone to put a condom on and put those condoms at the gay bars will put them in the fishbowl. We'll make him free like we have to put the celery in the visual. Yeah everything Jerry. Salary Fatty we're going to have to do something and this whole notion of like well your body shaming like no no. This is about health death life and death and it's all so putting a crazy burden not only on your knees and hips but this sis stomach putting a huge burden on the system and we're going to have to. I mean every commercial. I see. It's so funny if you watch like the NFL network you'll see the same commercials over and over again. Like one in six children go to bed with food. Insecurity is like we got to shift the narrative from Rwanda starving to we're fucking fat and we need to do something about it now and like if you people get their feelings hurt so be it. It's essentially the parents going. Hey No jelly beans for for breakfast. That's it like we're going to have to work it out and I don't. I'm not a real like Bloomberg. Kinda like no coke over sixteen ounces although there is no reason for a soda to be over sixteen ounces. There just isn't but like what if you just talk unless you're on a date with two straws you're at the mall shop. Yeah with calling me. There's a few things for instance Drinking your calories I see people drinking those Arizona pre sweetened iced teas and like a big like nineteen twenty. Two ounce thing and they think. They're drinking iced tea. I don't think they'RE DRINKING SODA. And help them. Yeah yes go ahead. Oh sorry I was just because what you just said. I think a good rule of thumb is if you order something at starbucks with a dome on top. Yes bad idea because we're told means room for whip cream and that's not the kind of thing you're supposed to be drinking right and they wouldn't do that with you know pure with pole varieties kale ginger. Nobody puts on there. Yeah so we need to I. I- versing we need to understand what we're drinking. I feel like people just drink stuff all day long and have no idea what they're doing to themselves by just on just that alone. I think people understand fast. Food is not real great for you and it makes you fat and this that and the other but most people Brian included and my buddy Chris not that Chris but another Chris. Everyone I know who's lost a ton of weight just went. I stopped drinking soda and start walking playing. I was the first that was the first and easiest thing to cut out the soda. I have a real soda and God knows how many decades be out the cut out. And that's your off while you're there but either way like if we can just start taking some of this stuff that we turn into some sort of we. Burr break everything down in some socio economic thing or by race or by gender shaming. Or whatever. See if we could just go. This is just a pure health. Standpoint people are obese. We need to we need. We need to rein it in and were fatter to because life's getting easier every ten. Yeah and we're quarantined. Everyone's on her. But but I think that we may have brought this up the other day. It's usually just this overall arching topic of you know. You really shouldn't do that and you really should. You think about your health and there's nothing to grab onto but when you have a study that says hey obese. People are dying at an alarming rate because of this disease because of this virus that everyone's catching that's tangible that makes me that makes me put down the fork when when I see something like that because it's been hard for me to sitting around and sitting around in a charity newsroom and eating while I work and I'm I'm definitely feel myself gaining and I don't WanNa do that well I'll tell you what The another thing you know you notice I was talking about my hands but You one thing you notice when you get older is when used to want to in the in the past you know when you're younger version of yourself and you're like I wanNA cut five pounds this we and you go all right. I'll take it easy on breakfast and lunch and I'll do this and I'll do that and you do all this stuff you thought you would do. Your body doesn't react the same way that way that you that you should just come drip and ride off when you modify things a little bit not so much. You modify things a lot as you get older if you really want that. Wait what was pretty easy. Even I'm fifty five. When I was forty five if I wanted to drop ten pounds in a week it was pretty easily done. It is not easily done anymore. So there's a little more work involved and but in general there is a benefit to this. Which is your weight and your body and your your nutrition and your health is is is a direct correlation to many principals in your life.

That is what chicken chicken or any sort of poultry tastes like so. I hope you're not going. I guess go cold Turkey. Don't go hot Turkey on me because that's disgusting. If your job hasn't called you back then for sure you you need to be participating in January but for everybody else's but this crazy pressure on themselves to you know not going to drink to me. It just makes me crazier but what I've realize as an amateur adult is when I go out now I just enjoy myself and don't blackout crazy concept but if you can go and and just enjoy your life have a glass of wine or two and really go to be around people in good company instead of feeling like you have to have sixteen yeager bombs before you go out. You'll be fine now. I understand that most doing dry January. Because they're like okay but I don't drink eat healthy. I'M GONNA. I'M NOT GONNA have anything to Termi from stepping into my my health and wellness goals. But I gotta be honest with you. I think we get a look. Cray cray right out the gate for me. I don't really start my week until really my new year. Until about the eighth or ninth and I don't know if it's because I'm a middle of the second week of Gallon General. I always get stressed out on the first bills. Or what do your credit cards do. I just kind of ignore that. Even when I didn't have money like I've always just pushed bills to lease the tenth stretch. It see how far I can stretch it before they collect at your front door before they find out where you live so for me I really plan on doing zero regimen really starting kick-starting any sort sort of New Year program until about you know. Actually I might stretch to the fifteenth. And that's where I'm at speaking of the Fifteenth La. I'm coming to do to secret shows or not secret anymore. We're doing to industry. Pop Up shows the fifteenth in the sixteenth at the Improv in L. A.. Of course it sold out like point three seconds. I am so appreciative Previti came. I said this on the last podcast. I'll say it again. If you're going to shows I need you to just be decked out ready to go down to clown. Having a good time there are going to be people there in the audience a and this is not like. I'm like planting people but there will be people in the audience. You could possibly make or break my career so if you see somebody in a suit said this I believe last time on the podcasts gas. Or somebody who looks like they got drug to the show. I want you to just go up to them by the bar and say. Hey you need to give heather McManus show. Oh she's ready to be a mega fucking star. Twenty twenty and and I'm going to manifest for you. Come find me after the show. Tell me what you need to do if you need me to. Go to your law professor professor and say Listen Ronnie. I'm so excited to the shows and y'all for everybody else in L. A.. We're playing a huge theater in La. It's coming this spring. We have not announced yet. Hang hang tight. WE'RE COMING TO CHICAGO. We're going to Boston Minneapolis. I mean all over. We're literally doing forty more tour dates and all new cities is year. I don't know why those just came to the top of my mind in all of Texas. We're in more parts in the south. I mean we're doing literally everywhere so hang tight. Stay tuned everything on instagram. And on this podcast. I will be announcing tour dates rates as they come. I'm excited to get back on the road but I'm also excited just to have some time in La to do the damn thing. Doggy you know what I mean. I am so frigging excited to work. And I think we've been on the road and as a comic. That's just like that is what literally like sets my titties on fire. You want to give me an automatic like hot hot flashed on my pussy. Allow me to perform. And that's what makes me happy but it's interesting the way that we decided to these two little shows it's truly because you don't know pilot season is pilot season season is basically I mean it's so fucking stupid but it's where they started to cast for all the new shows not only am I trying to sell my own show a network that I wrote and have obviously he created like this is my little angel baby nugget. I really WANNA come off from the momentum in this team that I had a two thousand nine hundred and I want to sell this show because I want you to be able to watch me every day on television Asian nine on instagram. Because instagram doesn't pay me they don't so anyways I've kind of the idea behind these shows they'll be ninety nine percent of people who are so excited to be there and then like the one percent of interns who have to just go and take notes because their boss told them to but in the meantime we're gonNA trick everybody into thinking that I should have my own. TV show. So I'm so excited. Did your onboard. I'm so excited you're coming and if you didn't make it to the show don't worry this literally the tiniest theater of played it's like two hundred seats at tiny. We're going to do a huge theater tour coming this spring. And we're probably probably GONNA announce at the end of January so get very excited. Buckle up baby it's GONNA be awesome get a merry Christmas happy new year. Happy Hannukah Kwanza. We're in it. It's a new decade a New Year. New Me actually. It's a new year. Same Old Bullshit.
