How to stage a Zoom Thanksgiving

"Everyone jefferson graham. Here talking tech. If you're like me you're probably going to be doing a virtual thanksgiving Travel plans or a little odd right now during this kobe era. And we're gonna be spending even more time looking at a video screen instead of seeing people in person but that's okay. I'm here to make it a little easier for you in a talk about how to set up your tech what you'll need. Think about zoom. Think about laptops phones tablets. Think about tv. Think about a dedicated video display device. Which is my number one recommendation love or hate facebook but you can't get over the fact that the portal is hands down the best video calling device on the market and nowhere. Would it be more useful than the thanksgiving table. It's a dedicated unit. You do nothing but video chat on it and it's got the best camera it follows you around So that you could have like four people at the table as each person speaks to camera would then zoom in on that person. It's pretty amazing technology. The a portal. Get the small one. Get the eight inch. Cost one hundred and twenty nine dollars. I checked on the facebook website today. They have plenty of units. And if you order now you could have it by this weekend. The tenants version one hundred. Seventy nine dollars. The fifteen inch is two hundred and seventy nine in the great thing about the portal. It works with either facebook messenger or zoom which happens to be the world's most popular video meeting service. Google has its own video. Display unit called the nest hub. Max similar camera. It works with google meet which is not as popular as zoom and amazon's echo show can either connect other echo show devices or any phone or tablet with alexa app. So you guys could see your guests on their phones. Ba fine tablets. I think those are good. Nice big screens. Just make sure to get something to hold a tablet stand. Because you don't wanna put greasy hands all over that shiny ipad ditto for the smartphone. Same tablet stands should be able to hold your smartphone in place. If you don't wanna get the tablets stand. Get inexpensive table top tripod for twenty dollars or so. The laptop is probably what most people are going to be using Stick it at the head of the table and just sort of moving around as the dinner continues. Most important tip is to keep an eye level because usually the webcam is looking up your nose. Making your double chin. Looked like a quadruple chin. Put your device atop a bunch of books and remember to look at the camera not at the screen. You're you're making eye contact with the camera. Otherwise you're looking down. Hey what about using the tv. I've got a tip for you. They're apple has really cool feature called airplay. Which lets you beam images video and the like from iphones ipads and mac computers to other devices. If you can connect your apple tv setup box to your tv via airplay you can bring zoom to the really big screen. Additionally several tv manufacturers also have new sets that work with airplay as well including samsung. Lg sony video. Finally don't forget about the lighting if you're gonna go really dark and light candles. Nobody's going to be able to see so turn on the lights. Get out some extra lamps in have fun meeting online.

Must Have Shrubs With Ken Druse

"This time to try to narrow down our list of must have shrubs to the real standouts and tell us why i can margaret. I know you'll never get it to three. It's funny you said that because when we first started talking about it you said one and both of us that we can't pick one. Can we even pick three right So which of your books. We always give copy of what looks only talk on the show at with the transcript of the show. What do you think i mean. Is this one for shade gardeners this one for. What's this one for a cheat garden shade garden would be a good a good one. That's always a huge hit so good good. Good good So we're at you. And i in our lives are at what a another expert friend says is the shrub season of our lives which is sort of rather than crawling around dealing with lots of fussy high maintenance perennials. It's kinda great to have some big fillers like mature shrubs to do a lot of showing off and yet not ask a lot of us. So where do we begin. What's a shroud. i guess. Well a strobe is a multi stemmed plant of woody plant and i guess that's sort of describes a tree would have one trunk one stem herbaceous plants die down to the ground soft tissues and shrub is a woody plant. That is bushy bush. I don't like that word for describing his trip but it's rub can be bushy. Okay okay and we should say before we start naming our desert island trump's that we didn't include khanna first because really that can that's a whole other conversation So many shapes and colors and textures among those so Do you remember your first. Trump been is still there and is it a favourite or it didn't make the list. Well i get. I get to pick three right okay. You want me to tell you. My first well you said conifers. And i'm not going to talk about converse but my one of my favorites shrubs is. Evergreen is a what is called a broad lead evergreen and it's a bucks it's a kind of boxwood. I have too many of them. And it's a box with semper barons. Graham blondie yes and it is one of the most colome ner plants i've ever seen really but It's a shrub and it's minor. There's probably i have some. That are like seven feet tall and fifteen inches. Wanted if you can imagine that. They're they're like punctuation marks. You know they're like exclamation marks in the garden. And as i said. I have too many because when i first got i always wanted them and then a nursery not too far from here a lot of them. Nobody bought them and the price kept going lower and lower and lower. I think i have made. I may have twentieth them when they were eight dollars a piece. Wow that's a lot of exclamations. A long time. I know and i i also keep moving them. I just moved three boy Son they want son you know. I'm sure they would love son. But i have all my box with. I don't have any full sun. But i have some of my boxwoods in quite a bit of shade and they stay calendar. Sometimes i tie them up because the snow might split them a little bit or you know splayed them. They don't break. But i do. I do tai the ones that are floppy up for the winter. And i love it if you says boxwood called graham. Landy columbia okay. I don't actually have any evergreen things at all on my list whether broadleaf or coniferous And i was thinking when we started this conversation today on the phone that my first trump passion was the genus vibe burnham. In back in the day we had a lot of divi burnham's like the double file and so forth that turned out to be kind of invasive and a lot of areas of the country. So i don't grow those anymore. But lately i've been cultivating more and more native ones like the maple leaf a full liam then tatum the arrow would and so forth So that was kind of where my shrub journey began. But the thing. I have the most of you said you have a lot of grand. Blondie is winter. Barry holly speaking of things. And i don't know what came over me. I mean it was the birds that came over me early on here in this rural place having been grown up in the city. You know coming here meeting all the birds and knowing that learning that they liked some of them liked fruit and that the native hollies were one of the ways to fuel the migration in the wintertime. And i planted about forty five or fifty of them in three very large groups in different directions toward the perimeter of the property but in different directions where i can see them from key windows in the house at a distance in the winter and all different varieties and Big ones small ones. I got a lot of fruit and birds a like very much. And yeah so waxwings and robins like in you know hunt flocks at one hundred or whatever at a time will come in right around now november ish and again to pick over at At the first snowfall and so forth and they'll strip them all pretty early on but one trick with winterbourne. Hollies if you want some that will last longer for your visual interest. The non red varieties they. The birds leave them longer. They're not as interested in them. So many yellowish orange ones and so the lighter colored ones and the winter

We put the the link in the show notes and then you get the show notes and a little bit of extra stuff thrown at you every Sunday. When we release. you can go over to the forums at talked backpackers dot com. and. Announce -ment. I'm doing a free keyboard Maestro Wepener I've been thinking about doing this part of these field guides for a long time. I finally got the system set up to do it. it's going to be free to everybody. You don't have to be a field guide customer and It's going to be a lot of fun. I'M GONNA talk about context base control of Mac Keyboard Maestro. I've got this really cool thing I've been doing lately based on whether I'm working on legal or Mex- sparky or whatever, and the tools I need just pop up in it makes working really fast and I'm going to share all that magic through Keyboard Maestro I'm GonNa have a special guest or to Rosemary Orchard already in and it's open to everyone free on August twenty seventh at ten am Pacific. If you're interested go to Mex- BARCA DOT COM to sign up. That was a pretty compressed little bit there. Don't you think Stephen? Yeah it was great. That was the elevator pitch like now we're on Iran or and breath waiting for us here. Yeah, and Brett is sitting right here saying, Hey, guys what the heck am under show. I'm good. You know we haven't talked to you about long time is I don't even know what hardware using these days I mean a still using that. So rocking that Atari. Se. No. I was part of a startup that went sideways. But as a result I got myself a new well new ISH sixteen fifteen. Oh, what year. No mine's a fifteen inch. I got this like a month before the sixteenth in was announced. So I still have a butterfly keyboard. That's awesome. But I use it mostly with my my ultimate hacking keyboard anyways. So. I do hate the keyboard I will say when I have to use it as a laptop I do hate the keyboard, but I do and this is an unpopular opinion but I love the touch bar. Yeah. Why I have a lot of fun with the touch bar I have it programmed so that when I'm in the shell when I cd into a directory, it checks for one of 'em. I've I have a thing called. How's it? Which is basically Make files for task runners. And so when I see the into directory figures out what tasks I have that I can run and gives me buttons for them and the Toolbar. The touch bar. And I find it just really handy. I never have to try to remember do I have this setup with Gulp or grunt or maker Rake I just have buttons that pop up for me. It's awesome. Now are you customizing touch bar with better touch tool or did you do something else? So okay. So the the customization I just described was all done through. I. Term. Which has escape code you can send to modify the touch bar, but I do also use. Better touched tool and have you seen what's it called Golden? Do. You know what I'm talking about. There's some guy did a better touch tool preset that has like every possible option for the touch bar. It was too much for me like I wanted more control. And fewer things golden chaos I think is. It's amazing. I. Mean There's No way you can look at it. Not Think it's amazing and if you haven't already customize your touch bar I I would recommend giving that a shot if you have your own customers though. It will overwrite what you have. So sure. Yeah, and it's really not that hard. If you got better touch tool, which I believe is part of set up now. So if you've got to set out subscription, you can download that one or just by the APP the also if you have a setup subscription, make sure you're running the setup version so that developer gets his due for all the Times you use his at and then if you have setup, you should also download marked to and just leave it running in the background twenty, four seven. I was only get you in trouble but. You could do that. That's all insane. But but better touch tool is an APP that you know started out and we talked about on this show often, but it started out to re map things you can do with the the the track pad, but then it's like Magic Melissa Apple, TV remote they just went crazy and and he but giving you the ability to to remapping the touch bar I think is something that for all the people that are cranky about the touch bar, my question always them have you tried customizing it to your own needs what about you even have you done yet stuff with the touch bar on your laptop? No just because it's such a secondary system for me I mean I have better touch tool doing a couple of simple things but I haven't really gone. Full bore with it if I had a this is of course had for Brett is something that you would use more if he could use it again if you had A. Touch bar for a desktop machine or you could have you know somehow with your keyboard, you normally use like do you feel? Handcuffed a little bit. It's only available to you in these circumstances. Yes. Because like I said, I'm primarily my laptops on a stand and I'm using my. Ultimate. Hacking keyboard. So when I wanNA use those cool buttons I programmed after reach over. To the touch bar and I would absolutely love to have a a touch bar An external touch bar I guess that could be closer to my keyboard although it does keep my if I sit too long my shoulders get really tight. So this constant like reaching over actually keeps my arms limits probably good for my health but yeah, I I would love an external touch bar.

Apples MacBooks have finally gotten rid of the butterfly keyboard

"Apple's butterfly keyboard which endured endless shots from fans and critics like finally gone. Welcome to the age of the magic keyboard. I'm Roger Chang and this is your daily charge with me. Is One of the foremost experts laptops our own. Dan Ackerman welcomed in Roger. Apple just released. Thirteen inch MAC pro which comes with one of its new magic keyboards that essentially wipes out the butterfly keyboard from its lineup right. How are you feeling about that you know? This was the last butterfly keyboard that was left. Was it was one of the reasons why that thirteen inch pro? A little bit outdated compared to the rest of the math book line. They updated the fifteen inch last year. And turn it into a sixteen inch and that was the first time they said all right this keyboard. No more we're going to call it the magic keyboard and it's a little different than it's the same but it's better you like it and we did. Then they finally did the same thing for the macbook air back in March very recently so and they say hey we got some more bad news coming up though. That's got be the thirty. The one laptop left a thirteen inch bro. So that you know there are a couple of things about it that we're feeling a little dated. The keyboard was one of them and now everybody has done magic keyboard. It's interesting they used that branding on the ipad keyboard also and also understand keyboard. You get with your. I'm AC. Let's back things up a little bit and let's talk a bit about the butterfly keyboard. What was so controversial about all the problems? They snuck that butterfly keyboard in with a new product. Five years ago it was the twelve inch Mac but not air not pro just MAC book they had not had a product with just that name at a longtime although they used to and one of the things that made that twelve inch. Mac Book which I loved so small and portable was over putting the super flat keyboard in and it's not going to have a Z shaped scissors switch under the key like so many other laptops it's GonNa have a butterfly which is basically the four corners and the sensor would indicate when a key was depressed so they could make it super slim. Did it in there? The problem was it was so slim. It didn't really feel like you were typing it all. It didn't have that right. Feel at also people immediately started getting the key stuck because there was so little space underneath them any little bit a dust debris would get in there so immediately. There were a lot of problems with it. And what apple did was they said. Oh that's great. We're going to put these in everything.

Apple launches new MacBook Pro with updated keyboard

"The new MAC pro. Thirteen inch looks great for photographers. So this just got announced today on Monday when I record the podcast. Their new thirteen inch macbook pro. This is what I've been waiting for now. The fifteen inch. The new fifteen inch has already been announced but personally I like the thirteen inch a little bit better. I think is a little bit more portable in the screens are so good that I do just fine doing my work on it and I was really curious to see what the specs we're going to be on this new machine and what the pricing is going to be. So I'm going to go over the machine. The I think makes the most sense for photographers and that version has the Intel core. I five quad core processor right which is very nice. Eight gigabytes of Ram Onboard Ram. And then the five twelve gigabyte SSD. So that's the model that I'm talking about right now. It's not the cheapest one but there's only one up from the cheapest one by the way this laptop that I'm talking about brand new is one thousand. Four hundred ninety nine dollars. Seems like I paid that much or more for my existing thirteen inch which by the way I bought in early. Two Thousand Fourteen early two thousand fourteen. And it's you know it's still working. I to upgrade it. This one might be a machine that I do if I can get the scratched together to do it. But they are good investments seriously. They are getting investments. They they go and go and go. So what makes this new one kind of cool well has a number of highlights first of all this one has the new. Magic Keyboard has the redesign scissor mechanism. So that part I think alone at the keyboard on these new ones is the good keyboard not the one that has some problems a couple of years ago. Very nice retina display They made to the stereo sound better and they have these immersive stereo speakers in the battery. Life is a bit better to now. This one also has the touch bar. Which is very nice. The touch part self is actually a retina display as well and it's contextual depends on you know which APP you're renting as to you. Know what options are there on? It is sort of adapts Depending on what you're doing at the moment in a really makes it easier to navigate menus and things like that the power button has the touch. Id Sensor so you can quickly log in to the macbook pro. Just by you know putting your finger on their fingerprint and then you can also use touch. Id to make purchases over the web if you have apple pay. So that's another very nice feature so as I mentioned before the model that I like is the one thousand four hundred ninety nine dollar model one point four gigahertz eighth generation Intel core. I five Qui- core processor with a burst. Speed up to three point nine gigahertz and then it also has the eight gigabytes of Ram in the five twelve gigabyte. Ssd alrighty now in terms of supporting external devices is got thunderbolt three ports supporting bi directional transfer speeds of up to forty gigabytes a second while also supporting ten gigabytes per second USB three point one and device charging Scott Wi fi five eight zero two point eleven A. C. Built in for Wireless Networking Bluetooth. Five Point Oh which will allow you. To connect additional compatible peripherals and there is a facetime hd Webcam so nice looking machine comes in space gray or silver always kinda wanted the space gray version of Mac book. I don't know we'll see. This is the most tempted. I've been to upgrade my two thousand fourteen thirteen inch and We'll see how things go I'm posting of course the podcast on facebook. If you have any comments about this machine or if you're tempted to upgrade to it

A Beginner's Rose Growing Guide

"What kinds ends of roses might be easiest to grow for somebody just starting out a rose lover who has been dying to grow some of their own it's funny L. and because we're talking about sensitive plants which is highly different thing later in the program but there's some people who would feel that roses could be called to sensitive plant? Some types types of roses are picky picky picky right Rosa's can be the Prima Donnas of the plant world but they are also one and flower. That pretty much appeals to everyone I for many years was the only person I know who did not like roses and the only reason I like them now is because you can eat. I have no patience. I have no patience for fussy roses that get mildew and leave spot and offense. It's like there are so many other plants and beautiful flowers that you could grow. I'm just not a rose person but I do grow as you know Ruko Cirrhosis. Because because I I love to use their fragrant pedals in their big fat hips in food. But other than that I am. I'm just not a you know I'm not one of those people who want to a Bauer of roses in their garden. I love roses and I like all types of frozen. I don't there are some roses that I choose to grow in some that I don't but let's let's kind kind of break it down. The American rose society uses certain categories of roses. Yeah they are hybrid tea roses grandiflora roses flora abundant Rosa's paulie anthem roses miniature many roses right shrub roses and climbers or rambling rose. And it's confusing. If you're just starting out I remember when I got all of those terms I was like Grand Flora Flora Bundle. What the heck is the difference? Well the most popular class of roses among among people is the hybrid. Tea Rose when most people think of roses. This is what they think of. It's a large bloom. It's got thirty to forty pedals are or more per flower They are often on a slightly longer stem. So they make a good cut flower their new introductions coming along all the time and they come in all kinds of color so many people if they're thinking of a rose this is what they're thinking of is a hybrid. Not Is it the easiest rose on the planet to grow. Oh no no. It is not now a subgroup of hybrid. Teas grandiflora rose. These often grow very tall. Okay and so. They're not suitable for every landscape and and their flowers however appear in clusters rather than individually on the stems again not necessarily the easiest Rosebush to grow floor. Abundant roses are probably the next popular to hybrid teas and the Granda Flora's and it. They also have their flowers. It's in big clusters are And this type of rose. Flora bundler tends to bloom more throughout the season then some hybrid teas grant floors have one period of bloom and then they're done for the year right and they can be glorious when they're they're in that one period of bloom. There's I know it's remarkably impressive when you see that but for people who want bloom throughout the gardening season the floor abundance give you maybe less impact at one moment in time but you do have that continued. Blue and many of them have been bred also to be more disease disease-resistant and more problem free so those people who are kind of gravitating toward the hybrid tea type roses might check into the floor abundance because that might be more satisfying for them in terms of repeat flowering and in terms of ease of growth grow You know the POLLYANNA. Roses are shorter. Those aren't under most people's radar the miniature roses. Those those are the ones that you buy in the supermarket or the garden center with a tiny little flowers and they're kind of cute and most of them are used as gift plants. Listen then they die and people don't usually grow them in their landscape. But you could. You can plant them outside and and oftentimes if they're hardy to your area and that's something you don't always know if you're picking it up in a grocery store but I I have grown many miniature roses that people have given me that. I just couldn't bear to throw away because I'm a big old softy off-duty and they've grown very nicely for me in the garden and because most of them end up about Oh fifteen inches to feet tall at most They make great container their plants. So if you were given one of these miniature roses as a gift planted outside in a pot on your deck or patio and see what happens. Nothing to lose right EXAC- now for the plant new but the variety of roses which are most accessible easy to to grow and disease-resistant are the shrub roses and roses shrub. Roses have taken the country by storm. There are many varieties of shrub. Roses probably right now in this country the most well known is knockout. The knockout series and the knockout is a great rose. But I would urge people not to think that that's the only shrub rose because there are great shrub roses there is the whole. Well you know reducer. Roses are shrub roses. And that's the only rose I grow for for for many reasons fragrant pedals pedals that can be used to infuse cream. Big Rose hips. That can be used in jams and jellies and look hers but also the regatta. Roses are very salt tolerant if you live near a coast or if you plant them near a road that gets salted in wintertime. They are highly disease resistant. Didn't so you're much less likely to get powdery. Mildew or black mold on them and for some reasons. I don't know why But the aphids and the Japanese these beetles D don't seem to at least where I grow them be quite so interested in them. Since I just mentioned where I grow them I want to say that Santa Fe. It's pretty much a rose growers dream as far as climate is concerned because we have excellent air circulation and fairly dry air. We do not on have a lot of high humidity and that that cuts down so so if you're going to grow roses in a dry climate you've got a head start and these shrub roses. This which by the way are also called landscape roses and and I should mention the drift series are great also easy. That's it Oh so easy. Yeah I was trying to think those are great so there are many the flower carpet series from tessler plants wonderful plant dependable bendable productive realize yes continual flowering whether they're dead headed or not although deadheading them does seem to hasten their Repeat flowering just a little bit but if you dead head you get no rose hips. Well that's true but many of the landscape roses don't make rose hips and anyway. Ah that is true and when I am looking for a rose I always ask if the plant makes hips and if by any chance there are forager's out there who are thinking about planting roses houses. That is a question you want to make sure you ask in whatever category. You're looking if you want the rose hips ask I because a lot of these plants either produced these tiny little insignificant hips hips at all. So if you're looking for an easy rose plant gopher the shrubs gopher landscape roses and then you can dabble all in the other varieties as well and do keep in mind that sometimes it's worth it to plant a rose plant and you see what happens and and some of them. Even though they have a reputation of being finicky they can thrive as you say ellen in your climate roses tend to do well so they can sometimes thrive against all odds and as long as you plant them in a place where there is full son and you're attentive to their need for some composter fertilizer. And then you know you'll probably do okay. Hey with them enough to get a lot of pleasure out of these

Apple redesigned the MacBook keyboard

"The Daily Chart Wednesday November thirteenth. I'm rugged chain and I'm Scott Stein. Today's talking back book keyboards. Apple's yet another another proud up. Its sleeve announcing a sixteen inch macbook pro the notebook which starts at twenty three ninety nine actually replaces the fifteen inch version and most notably it comes with a redesigned keyboard or using scissors switches. which apple is hoping? We'll address the criticism. It God for. It's more shallow butterflies which is Scott before we get down to the macbook pro sixteen. Let's breakdown this whole controversy. What why is everyone talking about these keyboards yet? I've got the macbook Pro Sixteen right here. apple introduced butterflies which is with the twelve inch Mac Book and and these keys which were flatter meant to compress that the the key travel to fit into thinner laptops and supposedly be more reliable and better had a totally different feel that. Turn people off but more than that. They've had a lot of failure probably just A lot of record complaints apple extended its replacement program Eh Phil Schiller admitted that they've been addressing these issues So not great at everything for repeated keys to getting stuck under them to try to change the membrane so so now what happens. Well the MAC book pro has a new keyboard. And it's a throwback keyboard. This is the this is the magic keyboard that was on Amax. Wry wit should the standalone keyboard keyboards. It's been around for a while and he's a good keyboard This has been incorporated or were adjusted in engineered into this Sixteen sixteen inch pro which I guess based on gleaning from from Schiller's comments this is for you know meant for what pros had requested and I think everyone's been requesting but the question of when this actually makes it in other laptops is unclear. It sounds like it will need extra engineering work And I'm not sure sure with that timeframe would be when I talked to Schiller. I mean He. He's made clear that right now. They sort of see it as parallel pads still working on making the butterfly keyboard which is on his third generation. Now better by the same time. Now that they've got this scissor version You know he sees it as a pro tear featuring now I really do hope it trickles down to some of the lower end matt books though yeah. I don't think it's a protein feature. I think it's an improved keyboard. I think this is This feels like my favorite one. It's a happy medium where it's it's still for those Xuejuan. A Lotta key travel. It's not as much as the older Mac. Books Right like the older older maqbool. Yep But Compared to got fifteen ensuring the sixteen inch using them side by side ride I work on the macbook air with a butterfly one if feels like it more satisfying and also. Apparently the keys can be removed. The key caps Kemira nice so maybe that means better repairability. We don't really know that. Yeah a little bit more space between the keys more space between the keys and the touch bars. Well Yup doc zone were space. There smells and physical escape key right. Which apple was very happy about that? You know the existence of an escape key. I've never seen everyone more excited about that. But it is back yet which is helpful. There's a more discreet touch power button. The touch bars smaller the touch bars mandatory mandatory. Yes which okay yeah. I'm not wild about bar. The other subtle thing the Arrow keys it's inverted T as opposed to the content of a boxy formation that the books apples and I can go back to feeling for it again feels a little more No look intuitive which is not the way I feel about touch bar. This promise touch part of me is that you can't feel

How is Microsoft's Hardware Different in 2019?

"You talk a little bit about This year's round of hardware from Microsoft and how it felt different and I'm not even getting into the stuff about the neo. Oh and the duo with the future looking stuff. I'm talking about just the stuff that they actually released. Yes so So they'd be free things they did. Let free the surface pro seven and the and the new kind of different of ways said that free they kind of they have a C. Spec- oldest upgrades you expect. But then they were in this one where they did an MD laptop on the fifteen inch vision and similar to that on the pro excite in the Eagle pro seven which is Intel. Oh looks the same as a pro full. I mean even a pro free offer like we're talking five years at the same hardware essentially so that's is pretty much. Everyone should probably noble. That's all about but he's us be seen but they also did another one the black surface pro x which has a it. Quantum chip inside is basically an excuse on presser. They've engineered with Coleman is basically an eight six prices inside. See that that is the hallway lineup US holiday lineup and some overseas Amir belts as well. But we're not talking about that is we. Don't have them yet. I'll admit I forgot about the ear. Bud Ah so thank you for reminding me well I mean how could you there giant reflectors on the side of your head. How could you possibly miss them? They're neck oh wafers really annoyed. We'll have yeah. Actually we're giving them into an litigation discussion. We're definitely going to give the these headphones a good review because they annoyed will am like that's that's absolutely happening. Well let's get the laptops out of the way Dan you review them The thirteen point five inch one you. You had a meme headline congratulations nations. You said having I snuck it in yeah. Tell me about this laptop it seems like it's okay. It's it's a surface laptop. They put a USB port on it instead of display port the end basically basically yes I mean so like they swapped that display port out that which was on the first two versions of the surface laptop and I. I'm pretty sure nobody used Finally for USB port. We're which you can do video out and you can charge to the poor but it's not a thunderbolt port which is an annoying thing and I think that's GonNa come up. That annoyance is gonNA come up again. I mean you talk about the other devices and then inside side of it has the tenth Gen Intel Ice Lake Processors Quad. courtships Really Great Performance They have actually really surprisingly good integrated graphics with them. This is not a gaming laptop. It doesn't have a discrete graphics card But if you wanted to like you know process a four K.. Video on this you you can do it. I did it in a test and it wasn't the worst thing in the world I wouldn't recommend it for doing that. But like if you need to get done They still have the great three by two screen. I love the screen on these things. It's the best screen to work on if you're doing productivity stuff on a laptop awesome allow Keyboard Awesome track pad really great basics. The one that I reviewed is is the gold model which they called sandstone. Because of course but it's gold and it doesn't have the Elkin Tara fabric on it which is kind of like the other big change. They kind of for a couple of the colors they dropped the fabrics. So this is like when you use this thing. It feels like you're using a Mac book air because it's just basically an aluminum neck which is fine It's just not the unique as as maybe the the blue were the silver which still have the the fabric on them. Yeah I mean the fabric thing is that. That's the biggest change right. Did you prefer the fabric Eric. I prefer the fabric. The fabric actually feels nice under the hands. Like it's not cold the touch. It's not sharp. It doesn't you know it doesn't feel like a every other laptop up that you could buy this kind of unique But there was some concerns with durability If you look at I've got a surface laptop one that I I got as my work computer two years ago and there are definitely some handprints in the fabric where it is so he tried cleaning it. No IT'S A. It's a Patina so like you know if you're worried about that the metal ones are obviously not going to have that issue And then the other thing that is less applicable when you first opened the box or use the laptop or whatever is that Microsoft apparently made these a lot easier to take apart and repair so You can actually Open them up pretty easily and access and swap that you can swap parts like the keyboard easier. I fix it. Did a whole tear down on it. Then they like I think brought the score up from like really low up to something in the mid range. Yeah because I guess the the display is still hard to to change. You're probably not going to do that. I think still need to have like an authorized service center. Sure do that for you. But it's now more possible whereas the other one you basically just had to rip it apart so his of his a funny thing about the Al Qatar so this she is Qatar. The silver one like will ever collie one is slightly darker before like that. That is right. Yes I remember noticing they did that. Maybe if you go into Mike's hostile and you pick up on these things and beat the hell like terrible graceless graces Silva is terrible so they got rid of the red color to which was like the message color all right what the one thing to talk about here at the thirteen point five because it actually applies to every single service were to talk about today is They kept the surface connect. Charger thingamajig the little wing tip. Whatever the hell you want to call it that you magnetically attached into charge charge? You could still intact to blah blah blah. I feel like they did this. Bait and switch or something where they added fast charging but so far as yeah I know it only really really works out the surface charge. You won't fast charge that well off a USB right. I got some pretty fast charging speed. USB Port Yeah as long as you have a high enough wattage charger okay. I think what I tested on was like a ninety watt or eighty seven watt USB charger which is like what you get with a macbook pro fifteen inch Just because I wanted to see if it did compared hair to the surface connector which is sixty five charter. So as long as you're using like sixty five or above you should get some fast speeds. You won't get Is Charging Wall. You're using the laptop and that is if you use either the USB port or the service connect port it's GonNa charge like a normal slow speeds. If you close the LID and let it go to sleep you can get ah like eighty percent in an hour or I'm in my test. I got up to forty percent in thirty minutes. I would much rather have another. USB Port than the service connected at this point right. Yeah I mean any time can speak to this more than I can. But I like the surface Hitler but it makes no sense when as you as you know I think it's like a legacy thing right. Like Microsoft has a bunch of commercial customers customer who all bought that terrible surface dock and they still want to use it and so the service connected. Let them do that like it. Also has that MAG safe knockoff. So that it doesn't it doesn't pull your laptop off the table but I agree I would much rather have I. I'd much rather have a another. USB SEAPORT and thunderbolt three because if you had three I could plug in an external gps and actually do real video editing. Or maybe gaming. If I was so inclined I could use really fast. External Storage which is if you are a creator using these for photo or video editing? That's always helpful. It's like four times the band with USB so I think it's a very silly misstep at these price points for you're not to have included thundery. Yeah and I think that connect is the reason why it does not fundable for the connect the surface connect because I think it's to do wherever the Tech specs on PCA lanes and stuff that used by Seattle. I think they can. Let's say you're like a new version of the connect it does. It doesn't support past hundred fifteen stuff photonic right so salute restrictive so what the fifteen inch this laptop at first until I was like really sad and like pondered. It came to a realization about it. It was the most confusing thing ever like. It seems obvious at the start but then you reviewed needed and it turns out. It's not like with the macro. If you get a thirteen inch you know like it's a little bit limited. It's just the thirteen inch but if you just want like power A little bit like you. You know slightly better thermal limits you can get the fifteen inch and that becomes like the power compute power laptop And I was expecting especially since there's an MD.. Version the fifteen inch of the surface. Chris pro to be like the power surface pro laptop. And it's it's it's not Not Not at all no it is. It is like you took the thirteen point. Five inch just stretched it to a fifteen inch chassis. Like I mean that's that's really what it is and and like if you want a Mac book air like computer which here's what. The surface laptop is in a fifteen inch size than the surface laptop. Three fifteen inch is that product. But if you're thinking oh I'm going to upgrade to the fifteen inch and get more power an an offer more capabilities and do XYZ. That I can't do on the smaller one. That's not the case at all And in fact if you're a consumer we're going to talk about this more with the aimed Intel differences If you're just like whoa buying the one that's accessible to you in the fifteen inch. It's actually not as good as the thirteen inch until in terms of performance. So like you're taking a step backwards you're also not getting a bigger battery which is kind of bonkers to me like the battery inside the thirteen inch model and the fifteen inch model is the exact same capacity so That's kind of just not so to me. Well and like the the size of it is if you're not doing anything fancy with like power Than it seems seems to be you should at least try and do something cool like the vessels but like this bog standard fifteen inch laptop battles are kinda big. It's not super powerful. The you mentioned the the macbook pro differences earlier and the the reason the macro fifteen inch is much more powerful is because you can get discreet. GP's and more importantly get like forty forty-five Watt CPU's the keys in the the the fifteen inch. Laptop three are still fifteen ships. So it's the same class ships. You're not getting any more power there and you can't get discreet. GPA's as you can get different If the amd one you get a different integrated gp but it's not as good as Intel's latest GP use like you're taking a step backwards there right so it is is kind of baffling. It is kind of like a very niche thing. I think for someone who wants a thin light computer that's also fifteen screen But yeah that that's really what it boils down to. I think the keyboard is fantastic on it. I actually liked. I fell in love with the keyboard I when I reviewed the fifteen inch model. Because that's the one I did. I and and it carries over the thirteen inch model title but the keyboard is tremendous the track is probably the best track pad. You're going to get in the window world barnum

A 16-inch MacBook Pro is on the way. Is it worth the hype?

"Let's talk about that does seem imminent name brand that the sixteenth speculate prose seems imminent I believe there will be some revision to the map at price very very soon yeah prior to this this week or so we would have much more excitement about this but there was the French apple blog MAC generation my generation that I published this icon on that frankly we saw this and a week prior in just at a glance it based on like the glance at it with a comparison to the fifteen inch version and like the the identifying name it just seemed like this wasn't a new machine and we didn't is it enough but a week later mcenery published it and they did a thorough job of showing this is the fifteen inch icon in in Mac Os that shows the sort of generic math book pro and then this new one that now clearly shows the rumored sixteen macbook pro with other it clearly shows the rimet CC's member PRI- well he's a different map but pry don't don't you recall there like whenever there's sixteen inch macbook pro was rumored first from meanchey quo that like we had this whole thing about is it redesign is close to like in I think I was more like I'm not sure close in that and you're like no it's it's it's in the text you can it seems like it's taken is talk taking back over to the new entry and the existing family I was swayed by your argument at the time I recall that it is the sort of this is how long apple goes in between designs and we are due for a new design to begin at the top of the line sometimes and then they bring it down to smaller screen versions of that end the Waco described as sounded more significant because he he he's pretty standard in the way took spout stuff like purchaser updates versus something more substantial and the thing is if you go back and look report you probably could make it lineup this icon show as well because it is a new design is just a nine new design this is what we were kind of like hoping for an heads I guess yeah yeah I recall back it was like I would consider at the time mm-hmm like the Max version of the iphone a new design even though it's the same design it's a new product and then and then but it was swayed by the argument that I do for you redesign and there's so many reasons to do that anyway but yeah but I was fooled by this I I I just I was convinced this was the old one and I just didn't do the level of comparison required especially Yeah See oh there are some very minor changes that make this look like it's what's room and like you wouldn't look at it and say oh that's a sixteen inch Mac book but connecting the rumors with this image with the comparison to the fifteen inch version it's different than the math book pro shown like you glance at it and the bills are slimmer they don't look super modern because there's still got a lot of area below the screen and above it the sides are narrow got square corners so there's no change there the the base of the MAC book pro appears the same style at least there's more space between the edges against the speaker girl area would be larger sure but the keyboard the keyboard whether it's thirteen inch or fifteen inch and this appears to be the same that sixteen point whatever it is they've got the same cable on all three models it's just the base is bicker around the you know the aluminum part track pad like key layout and everything the only difference that people spotted really is that if you kind of Zoom Wayan you can analyze some difference where the touch bar is that touch bar seems to be just narrower you know by the the like one key on either side yeah because now you've go presumably a fiscal escape k. on the left and then the power button on the right is separated because on the current touch bar they try and make one continuous it's probably more like the macbook air now where the Mecca of key for touch ID and power just like the touch bar but it's a key shaped yeah and I think I think the current design of the touch by actually confused people because even towel the far right hand side is actually a button if you know it does not it doesn't look like a key that you can strike I recognized a lot of confusion about that especially as the 2016 generation was the generation that started making it so like the laptop turns on when you open the lid and stuff remember they started changing those behaviors. Yeah so you you don't even need to read cronies actually something that you can press and on this new design obviously looks like a standard okay it looks much more like button that you can actually push down Yep yeah I think initially like Meyer action was just a lot less excitement about this because mean you're people who who appreciate not just what these things can do but how they look like no we were really bored and kind of uninspired by the iphone design whenever the six lived on to the seven you know he had six six seven again eight we didn't have to bother with but whenever the ten design came about we loved it and we still do I think that's kind of feeling for this this this macbook generation is that you could change some things about it to make it feel more modern that there's some things happening with windows lapd ops that it's confusing apple hasn't done themselves is a perfect situation because right around the iphone seven timeframe oh the Andrew fainted started the quest of making the Basil's thinner in Sliema they weren't you know they went to the level that they are today but they were they were closed they were closer than the iphone was because the islands had massive for head and Chins because at that equidistant Hoban gap right on both sides yeah and it just looked unwieldy especially with the the at that time the what they call the plus signs right even bigger ones it was like this five point five inch phone and then you've got like a two and a half inch pezzo on the top one size right because that's what the rest of the industry doing Napa was basically just saying it's Laura's been like you know we don't need to bother with that stuff and then you look at the Bert Pro Design compared to

Rodney Clawson Is an Accidental Song Writer

"We have a wall on the screen Ronnie that we put everybody songs on it we couldn't all your songs you have so many number one song yeah well I mean I know there's people out there that have a lot more than me but I don't know arrivers five hanging and see what they say that's what my asthma therapist asked me do she gets just say thank you I'm shocked when I see it too so I'm like L. and by because each song the worth of it we have estimated you're worth a billion dollars are you say over or under a billion I would say well well under well over got it that means Ashley Gorrell to billions of where you are in the get off this but you are in the elite sorry we all we have something we call the elite three artists that have the most number ones that have on the podcast and you're part of that and there was a room we'd all clap and probably give you a standing ovation uh-huh and there's not a trophy but we'll mail one to you okay and may never come to you but trust us we've been wh what is the trophy we don't know yet we haven't actually invented that we just say it we'd never send it out something to hold your bed it's a belt it's a it's a championship you'll be receiving it in the mail just watch for it so what's interests about your story is you actually were writing songs and they were having a bit of success before you've moved to Nashville right yeah so you were in in Texas up in the panhandle got out of college and farmed with my dad for fifteen years and had some connections here in Nashville started Started writing songs had three or four Three or four hits before I moved out here in two thousand five so I got a I got a publishing deal in two thousand and went back back and forth for five or six years my dad retired and moved out here full Tom so you've got a publishing deal without living here right which which at least oh no by then but now that's pretty rare because part of the publishing don't sign you as they want to set you up on rights all the time and if they're setting up on it nobody was part of that they wanted you to write not only in town but to pay you to keep writing at home too yeah I mean I would come to town one week a month and I would have have you know half written stuff ratified things about myself and you know hey here here's a verse and of course you know you lock it or not and I wrote a few few hits like that you know so you were farming either fifteen years yeah he finished school kind of farm corn leads bean's big center pip sprinklers you know in the Texas panhandle where it rains like fifteen inches a year so it's almost desert so you're living the country saw right yeah I mean out of school you live the adult country song right yeah and what is your drive in the tractor listening to the country songs things that now we're trying not try to plug in like well the guy on the tractor which the guy on the tractors not maybe the core audience anymore the back when I started it was I think the as you were writing songs while living on the farm and you're working what's your what's your dad think about me we the ambition that you had to be a songwriter what's funny is my family mom and dad aren't musical at all so they were supportive but I I don't know if they even understood what I was trying to do which I mean I after I had had a publishing deal in had several hit songs I would come back home I would come to Nashville and riot and come back home and my they would say like you sell Nissan's this week but he explained the business him so many times I to this day I don't know if they still understand what do they do know that my song played on the radio and you grew up what what town would you be closest to I I grew up five miles west of groover Texas okay and you'll hit Amarillo and go ninety miles north so I know pretty well we just play Amarillo care the thing about Amarillo that's the part of Texas that gets Snow Right Yeah Oh yeah and it's about the only part of Texas that really get snow yeah we we've had some big snows so you guys got seasons in Texas Oh yeah so you finish school you're you're working on the farm writing songs are you I'm just trying to understand what that was like are you carrying a guitar as through the day like this down time I would I would maybe on the tractor I would get an odd in my head and I mean it's it's so different than what I do now because like we'll go you know you go and you meet a couple of buddies somebody has an idea you try to write the song one day we'll I had like weeks to work on an idea like driving a tractor you know but would mainly you know put stuff down with guitar like go home at night ten o'clock at night going with guitar and try right like that too for a couple of hours that guitar just the music come from if your parents weren't musical that that influence was day Well I mean I was in I played piano growing up and I was in band choir and I learned how to play Guitar probably I think about it guitar when I was maybe twenty years old also a letter or yeah I mean I didn't try to wrap my first song till I was I think like twenty eight maybe it wasn't like for like most people like four and I saw well my I had this is kind of a weird story that I I don't like to share it with people get it just sounds weird but I had a friend of mine who left Gruber Texas and came out here to Nashville and went to Belmont and got in the publishing world here and she randomly called me hadn't talked here in two or three years randomly called me one night and said hey you're songwriter and you don't know

CNET's tech-deals guru reveals his secrets (The Daily Charge, 9/3/2019)

"Today on the daily charge i instagram now facebook may start hiding likes wifi seven already on the developing table and dove tailing off the best labor day tech deals the cheapskate rick reuter is here to break down what still good morning and welcome to seen daily really tired. It's tuesday september third. I'm joanie saltzman alfred. Let's get to the headlines here in the u._s. Were coming back from a labor day holiday holiday weekend which like most holidays here means shopping but there are still deals out there for you to grab rick bre has been spearheading cenex coverage of tech deals for years and he's he's joining us now remotely wreck. Thanks for coming on the show. Thanks for having me guys. So what are some of the best deals still out there for people right now right so as you mentioned the labor day holiday was a great excuse for everybody to have deals because it's american but we do and although a lot of the deals are wrapping up because it's the day after labor day there are few that are still holding on <hes> for example h having a really nice salem one of their <hes> more entry level the laptops. It's like a fifteen inch but actually has a decent processor and it has a two hundred fifty six gigabyte solid state drive and it starts at just like five hundred nineteen bucks ax which is a really good price for that. I recommend anybody who's getting that. Go into the custom convict tool and bump up the screen resolution two full h._d. That's an extra fifty bucks six the <hes>. I have it right here in front of me. I don't forget another novo. Start clock is down to sixty bucks and this is a really nice item for a college student or anybody. He also wants to be able to wake up with with videos or see a live weather reports stuff like that <hes> the air pods deal with the wireless charging case that was was like one of the all time best deals on that is now expired but you know <hes> black friday is coming so deals like that. We'll be back right. Well something. I've always wanted to ask you and so. I'm glad i got to do this. Live in front of an audience is how do you keep on top of identifying these deals all year round. I can't even imagine and like what you cannot ask magician to reveal. I don't care if we're live. We're not no seriously though i i have a number of different ways that i track these deals. A lot of times vendors will reach out to me and say hey we wanna do an exclusive thing for for cheapskate reader's go out different deals sites <hes> like anybody and then of course i have my spies here and there who bring me the good stuff <hes> the one thing i'll mention though is that for anybody who wants to on attract deals on their own if they're hoping to score a deal on something and they wanna find out when it goes on sale. There's a couple of tools that they can use the help them do this. One is it's called camel camel camel and the other is called honey and both of these let you set up water called <hes> basically price alerts so you let them you specify what price ice what threshold you're hoping to get and it will send you an email alert as soon as that particular product gets to that price. That's a great way to keep tabs on individual joel products that you're hoping to score a deal on that's great so we're gonna talk to some more and left. If you guys have any questions for him stick around he'll be there to answer your questions but next up facebook maybe the world's most powerful force addicting us to gobbling up those likes on our posts making them go higher and higher but it's considering hiding like counts. The company already tested a similar move on instagram in august so this is all part of digital health right this idea that it's not healthy for for us to be constantly trolling and feeding these you know this need for likes but facebook is the one that kind of pioneer across the globe yeah they on often cite and when we talk about dark patterns which are ways that you know pages are designed to make you keep coming back to the reason why the notification is an annoying red teijin not a color that that doesn't bother you when it's just lingering on your page so much <hes> you know their studies on people getting kind of like a dopamine rush whenever they do get like like a like or a re tweet or share on their post or something like that and you know a lot of people who have noted that this is a step in the right direction to kind of hide that so you're not like constantly reminded click on the app and keep looking back at it right yeah and also not only just engagement also it feeds into like self worth and self appreciation when you see somebody else's post gang or even just friend counts which they're not talking about. You're talking about a test for counts. Those sort of numbers have led to people self assessing their own self. Yeah i remember i would delete photos if i didn't get more than ten minutes on instagram while so i kinda shifted myself out of that and and i made like another instagram page has no followers and i don't follow anybody on post stuff on it or anything like that but it's very liberating like the break myself out of that chain yeah the next just be not uploading photos come on myspace. "Roughly ten and we're already in excess of that this year so it's been when the whole year yeah okay worry one today only get fifteen inches of rain a year and not this much I say more stir I should I should say that's crazy coming from Florida that's like not like you have that by March two weeks in the summer and I'm not even kidding rice is too weak it's odd that we are so this is I have noticed we are very green right now yes it's very nice which is rare because usually by late July your brown you know even if you had a wet spring you just hit that hot dry stretch of weather and eight rounds it out by kill my yard my sprinkler system is not working I'm waiting for the sprinkler company to come back with what is sure to be a mind blowing that limit my ancient sprinkler system right bites my yard died but the last two days the screen again wow I know my delivery this record is the first to make sure this precipitation comes around on a regular basis here you guys have had that great great range king or Hanneman really soaking rain so it's been nice but so we're in now in this weather pattern and I have this question came from a woman via email in the find it here can't make that go down here we go from penny and he says this please enter this disagreement between my husband and I went a forecaster says seventy five percent chance of rain does that mean seventy five percent of the forecast area will have rain all work does that mean there's a seventy five percent chance of rain in a twenty five percent chance of no rain so you should just say yes and the no further question so here's the tricky part of that what it means is when we give you a percent it is that percentage at any one spot in your forecast area really think of it as there is a seventy five percent chance it's going to rain at my house yeah right yeah there you go so really the second part of that question was more accurate than the first part of the question what bugs people you have an area as big as Denver right and say he the thunderstorms pop up at DIA well nobody lives there right lot of people might be there but no one lives there and so everyone says they missed it again they missed the forecast is like no really wouldn't because the storms popped in the forecast area and I can't do this to jokingly on on social media when Chris post something about whether coming I'm like but what is the weather gonna be like at my house and that's really kind of the problem is that we all want to know what the weather's going to be like at our house we don't really care about your health right right or D. I ate right wonder what's gonna be like on my street yeah and and I did get that as a as a human but then the meteorologist side it's like it's not possible you know but I will say this our field has kind of made you think it's possible yeah I would I mean well yeah apps that can pinpoint the weather right to your street you know it's a model I mean it's not going to be spot on so really the only thing that you can say would be entirely accurate when I pull up the rate are on my phone and there's a little dot.

"Just go to the contest page, and you're good to go since I'm kind of in Christmas winter mode. How about these North Carolina State university researcher, Megan scrip, she had a query. She wanted to know how big can snowflakes really get supposedly? There was a snowflake in Montana. Was reported in eighteen eighty seven that measured fifteen inches wide and eight inches long. Okay. Now, again, it's it's not like the thriving whether journo vibe we have today. It's just a report one snowflake fifteen inches wide eight inches long. But snowflake expert, yes, there is such a thing. Sandra? User says any natural snowflake over one inch is actually just a jumble of individual ice crystals called aggregates. Kenneth liberate. Professor of physics department chairman at the California Institute of technology adds that while it's true. No, two snowflakes are alike he can grow snow crystals that are very similar as far as whether there's an upper limit to snowflake size or more accurately snowflake aggregate size. Scientists say they're just not sure they're just not sure I that's one of those things. I remember two years ago shopping at eastern, and you know, when you talk about high expectation. That's the vibe I want big snowflakes in the air, Christmas lights and all the people running around. And I got one afternoon I was up at eastern and it was perfect. Now, the snowflakes were not fifteen by eight but they were those big ones. You know what I'm talking about? Maybe a half inch inch across and just fallen real slow because there's a lot of wind resistance on. That's that's what I'm talking about. So the fact that there is a snowflake expert, just boggles my mind. Ceramic Christmas trees, I can remember my mom having one was you know, on the end table by the couch. Southern living says those are starting to come back. They're being sold everywhere. Amazon walmart. Getting a true vintage piece from the seventies. Probably a little harder a little more costly you can pick up modern versions for a lot less of those ceramic decorations. I popped up in the nineteen forties. But really didn't gain popularity until the seventies. And if I remember correctly much like your Christmas tree where there's always one light that won't go or, you know, the twin clerks don't twinkle because you got a bad bulb seemed like there was always one or two of those little things that got loose and popped out. And you know, maybe I'd spend that to the back. So it didn't show. So they say true vintage pieces from the seventies. Looks like you're going to be in for probably about one hundred this year. If you're looking to adorn..

"But that had been about two weeks ago. It was a buck another fifteen inches. You're talking a lot of snow. All the big rocks and boulders were covered. So that was great. So one thing you have to do is decide what to wear was about thirty degrees. Maybe twenty five degrees. You'd be surprised a hot you get huffing and puffing up a mountain trail Justin layers, like they save it really thin layers. No, no fool on Parker's. For me. It's silk long underwear. Should have a thin layer of wyking material. And then. Series of easily removable windbreakers, and maybe a down long sleeve, very thin thing. And I'll bring a lot of water because you do get dehydrated. 'cause you're huffing and puffing. You're like a heat. Machine. And if you take stuff up there to eat because there are facilities up there to cook. Make sure you're ready to take him back down because all your trash has to be looked back down. So be smart about what you take up there to eat. I had to decide whether to use the things called micro spikes with things things that strap on feet with little spikes or snowshoes. I very small trailside smoked snowshoes. I went with them. I liked him. My brother used this the spikes? And it was just the most beautiful thing trees were Laden with snow. Untouched. And. Animal track little animal tracks in the woods and perfectly quiet people on the trail. They're very friendly. Mostly. Every once in a while, you get some cantankerous. Person who's not that friendly, but mostly there's an automatic friendship. It's almost like you've already been introduced by the mountain. You don't need to say. Hey, how's it going? You just kind of make a comment as if you knew that had known them forever. This really old people hiking up seventy year old looking guy. Seventy five. Note if you ever go up a trail. If you ever hike up and down. Remember that etiquette says the person going up has right of way, it only makes sense because it's harder. Let them go. Let her go. People don't seem to get this. It all made sense. Right. They'll come to and on down and just not know the rule. They actually I actually think the AMC Appalachian mountain club. Or whoever maintains the trash will put a sign that says uphill climbers have right of way. I was concerned about how I would do because you know, I haven't been I'm older another year older. And I am not in great shape. But I was pleased that my wind was really I did. Well. When you get up there. You're sweaty and tired. I'll tell you that very nice people up in this. It's called the hot. But in the video, I've done very carefully documented what it's like inside. There are picnic tables where you can eat or play board games as you come around to the right as a woodstove that had the fire go and usually in the day. They don't have the fire going, but I guess in the daytime in the weekends. They do no pets inside big camp stove, which you can see and the view is of the Lafayette range. It is -standingly beautiful. I hope you can watch this video. It's one of the I have about one hundred travel videos, literally actually more than one hundred this might be one of my top five. It's not even very far away. Jay talking Facebook page. It was fun being when my brother you, get quality time. It takes about ninety minutes to walk up. Maybe an hour forty five it's not very high. But it's steep. It's pretty steep. You'd be surprised. All the way down legs get wobbly because they're overworked and all the way down your your quads her start to hurt because it's just a different set of muscles. Trying not to slip and slide. And if you got a bum knees. That's when they'll hurt on the way down I got one that kinda hurts. I know. Saddens.

"And maybe I don't need a two point nine six core. I nine maybe I could get the I five configuration or the I seven configuration, and it would work just fine for me. I would argue actually would I really don't need this much processor. I probably don't use that much of it, especially considering I do just audio podcast. But you know, that's here, nor there the point. I'm trying to get to here is we maybe need to start looking at, you know, X amount of ram costs Y or own my God six hundred dollars extra. For the extra seven hundred sixty eight gigabytes of storage that I want to move from, you know, one twenty eight to one terabyte of storage and get to the point where we're pricing the whole system that we need and sort of comparing prices that way, and I think it becomes a little bit easier to understand or to see what the price difference is. It are when you start looking at it that way. So just another quick example. You know, if I was buying a machine I would want similar specs to what I have. So that is again, some sort of MAC with sixteen gigabytes of ram in one terabyte of storage. And so I- priced out all of Apple's different offerings. Both desktop and notebook with those specs starting with kind of the base level models and not really looking as much processor were or GPO because for me, those things don't matters much. It might be different for you. But I think you understand the point. So a MAC book air would be. About twenty six hundred dollars. And that's what they one point five terabyte drive because they don't have a one terabyte option a thirteen inch macbook pro twenty six hundred dollars. Hey, fifteen inch MAC, but pro and this would be the two point two gigahertz six core. I seven which again would still be a jump up from what I have two thousand nine hundred ninety nine dollars. So I had actually save a little bit of money versus what I bought this year. A one terabyte MAC mini eighteen ninety nine and a twenty seven inch. I'm back twenty six ninety nine so all within kind of the same price point, give giver take a couple hundred bucks. The Mak many being the cheapest option the fifteen inch macbook pro being the most expensive, but all in that twenty six hundred to three thousand dollar range, which I found very very interesting. And again, I could play around with my processor needs. I might be able to get. At that price down a little bit. But that says to me, you know, my cost of ownership might cost of using a MAC as my computer every year is going to be every time on upgrade is going to be around that price point. And I think if you start thinking about it that way, it becomes a little less shocking. When you get to the point where you need to upgrade, right? You can start to budget for that you can start to work around that. And that's not to excuse or to say that apple isn't charging maybe too much for their storage or they're charging too much for the ram. It's more. Just looking at it as this is what it costs to be a MAC owner. And if I don't like that, maybe it's time for me to start looking at other options as much as I hate to say that you know, I am a huge apple fan. I'm not planning on switching anytime soon. But I know for some of you this becomes critical. You don't have that kind of money to spend there also is that other option though, that we've been talking about which is you just hang onto the thing that you have you know, for a little bit long. And I really do find that. I am able to use my older computers for longer than I have been in the past. Yes, we've always gotten good longevity out of our apple products. But I think it really is extending it used to be you get to the point where the operating system wouldn't work anymore and apple has done a pretty good job of continuing to not only support older machines. But also improve performance as they upgrade the OS and continue to provide new features and functionality and all those sorts of things..

"That it is and they're very advanced these days so it's not a just the drain spout going into a wooden barrels it can be that simple but the point is a wooden barrel that hold sixty gallons of water is going to do anybody really any good we're talking about a significant amount of capture 500 gallons of thousand gallons two thousand gallons which this is the thing you talk about southern california still despite the drought our average rainfall here is about fifteen inches okay during the to last two drought years it was six inches or so but here the numbers one inch of rain falling on one square foot of roof produces point six gallons of water runoff so what that means is that they got a fifteen hundred square foot house you got fifteen hundred square feet of roof or one inch rainstorm or let's say an inch of rain when the rains come over a week or so that is nine 100 in thirty five gallons of water rolling off your roof one if they do the average we're talking about twelve to fourteen thousand gallons of water coming off of homes in los angeles every year for some reason that doesn't seem like a whole lot to me so and it may very well be so let's try to do some number what does that mean in terms of how many lawns you can water oh we can't do that anymore how many cars you can wash no you can't do that anymore uh how many showers can you take which is a were just a by no pass along the nominee of shomar showers yes dirt showers yes i know that's the big question and.
