"An attendant. The only smart ass lawyer in town with a sports degree. But anyway, back to the writer bags. Hold on. I want to make this happen to me once and it became a big deal. It's now. About ten years ago, a guy named smokey called in and he was literally in the ER having a heart attack and I didn't believe him. And I made him get the nurse to come on. I wanted to make sure that you are you back or you were still in the waiting room. Now I'm in the lightning room. I'm stepping outside because I can't have it. 'cause I'm fixing it. This will accidentally lower my blood pressure. Well, Terry Lynn, you're sitting there in the waiting room. I mean, I'm not sitting in the white and I've had to step outside because it might get too loud and you're not allowed cell phones in the emergency room. So they know I'm here, and I know that my waiting to be seen or are you just with somebody? No, my heart surgeon is my sister. And she knows I'm here, and she set up all the cardiac care centers in northeast Arkansas. Right. So I've already taken her and told her where I'm at. So I'm going to find the first step, but I could throw up at any minute, but I ain't going to. But Terry, I don't want, I mean, I feel guilty for medical care right now to make a phone call. That ain't gonna happen. Okay. That ain't gonna happen. Okay, well, let's get to the point. What you want to talk about? Well, important stuff is I want to know how we're still talking about spring when it's baseball season. And Arkansas is swept Tennessee and is going to win the whole thing this year. Well, here's why. Because baseball season is a very long season. It doesn't end until late June and to obsess over one series doesn't seem to be a good time. Exactly. Well, now you know where I'm coming from. And I'm going to step out on a limb and I know the last quarterback to beat Alabama and I know the last coach to beat Alabama. And y'all's a 100% right. I don't have to Google nothing. It was Matt Jones was the last quarterback to beat him. And he has a door straight quarterback. And Matt Jones is the last quarterback to beat Alabama, and it was Houston. Yeah, I think you're right. That was a long time ago. I know it was and people get confused that Bobby Katrina would probably Katrina went to the shooter bow and a good debate alcohol state that they had to reply quarterback and y'all know how that went. That's why people get confirmed around on it. It's not that people don't know it's just like it's hard to write. I gotta go. No, I've dealt with cardi cardio patients before. I feel like you're getting a little bit tired. Okay. Well, I got it running. Well, I gotta run. You got it the best study bye bye. Okay. I didn't mean to cut the call short, but I felt like she was starting to, I didn't want heart palpitations outside the ER in somebody's going to come in and blame us. So anyway, so good news is she's back in the ER. Hopefully being attended northeast Arkansas is kind of on the Mississippi riverside of the state, isn't it? Yeah. Dwayne is in Louisiana. Hello Dwayne. Yeah, you should have stopped the show and kind of playing and we give them out the most. When you're in there, when you're in the hospital, you don't really need mouth to mouth because they have oxygen. It was you should have did it anyway. A, you should have did it anyway, but check this out. You can like that clown. I told you about smoking crackle can you update you. You put some, you're doing something not done by LSU. You know how to choose a win at all? You know how did you learn it all? First of all, LSU's not going to win at all. The poll came out. The FPI poll came out. We ranked number we ran number four. And all a, did an offense we rank number 5 in offense when rate number ten and defense coming out. Yeah, do you happen to notice how many SEC schools you were behind? How about two? You're number three in the SEC. Yeah, you're seeing it too. Yeah, how you think number one? How about number two? George the number three and number four. So if that poll is correct, you guys have no shot at winning at all. Man, you got man you stick, man. I don't know what you mean. I know what you fell off. I don't know where you coming from Paul fine by. I told you I'll make you a believer, man. We gonna make you a strong cold, believe it this year. You know what I'm saying? The quarterback is going to be. You know that day. You know that quiet back here. Come on. Yesterday and say that. That man talking about it. That man talking out of here here at the practice. You practice. Are you on board with him go wash them? Yeah, he don't know what he's talking about. He don't crack too. They all crack. That's a real shoot show with some real pain medicine when we get to you. We gonna bang, we gonna bang all y'all up and as you see, you tell all the fans, take a day and off the song.

"Podcast. Yeah, we're back, and I mentioned a week from Thursday, the NFL Draft in Kansas City. Is there anything left to speculate on in regard to the first pick? Field age, she joins us. She covers this like no one else feels always great to see you. Thank you for taking time off from jogging around the neighborhood to join us. Good afternoon. It's great to be on with you, Paul, and I can't wait for the draft and just 9 days away. And thankfully it's only 9 more days because I think we have officially reached silly season with speculation and rumors and anonymous scout quotes that maybe have muddy the waters a bit more than they probably needed to be. Field when it came out yesterday from Bryce young or this week that he wasn't taking any more visits, are we to read into that that this is a this has been locked down that he knows that he's going to Carolina or am I just imagining things? Yeah, I think both Bryce young and the Carolina Panthers have gone about as far as you can go in terms of not actually admitting they know what's going to happen with that first pick in the NFL Draft while also knowing what's going to happen with the first pick in the NFL Draft. We have seen late changes. We have had drafts where up until hours before the events began. It wasn't clear who was going to go. Number one overall, but at this point, while there is a lot we don't know about the 2023 NFL Draft, the one thing we feel very comfortable about is that Bryce young is likely to be the first overall pick to the Carolina Panthers and I know we're all going to talk about the weight 5 different times every day until he actually hits the field in September for game action, but not even being the smallest quarterback in a long, long time could deter the Carolina Panthers from taking him number one overall. Fields are we to read into when they drafted when they made the trade earlier, that's what they were going to do. And then you just have to go through the due diligence to make sure. Is that fair? Is that a fairly safe assumption? Yeah, so the trade took place around March. I think it was 14, 13, 14. So over a month from where we are right now in about 6 weeks away from the start of the NFL Draft. So it's possible that Carolina had a perception of where things would go when they made that trade, but that that perception was open to change. And I think it is likely that Carolina had multiple quarterbacks. They were considering at that juncture because when the trade went down, we had not yet gone through pro days. We hadn't yet gone through the official visits portion of the pre draft process and private workouts. And I think the reality, though, is you only make that trade if you know that there are there is at least one quarterback that you are comfortable with. And my guess is that Carolina probably went in with a lean, but that's over the past 5 or so weeks since that trade. It's allowed them to fortify their decision and have close to consensus within a building, which I only say close to because anytime you have a scouting staff that might involve ten or 15 different voices, finding ten or 15 opinions that are exactly the same. It's just hard to come by, no matter what draft, and no matter what prospect you're evaluating. With Phil Gates, field to what happens after Bryce young goes to Carolina. This is where things get interesting. And I mentioned at the top of our conversation that, in some ways, I wish the draft for right now, so we can get past projection and rumor and speculation season and it feels as though over the past. Let's call it 72 hours, no team has entered the speculation frame more than the Houston Texans because for a while Paul it felt like Bryce young, CJ Stroud, in some order, one and two off the board to begin the draft. Now it feels like Bryce young is still one, and TJ Shroud is a mystery as to where he will land, and if it's not CJ Stroud, the question is, is there any quarterback the Texans are willing to take number two overall? In some ways, when you have a four quarterback in the first round, maybe 5 with hand and hooker, but four, for sure, any time you have a draft with that kind of quarterback depth, in some ways, there's an argument to be made that you either have to take a quarterback number two overall, or you have to trade back. Now it feels like will Anderson, who we just saw during the break, or Jalen Carter, the two best defensive players in the SEC last year could be in the mix for Houston because if you're not taking a quarterback, those are the only two prospects based off of their value that are worth taking number two overall. And assuming that one goes to Houston, what happened in the QB shuffle, you've got a group of players there. Everyone has a different speculation. One day it's Anthony Richardson the next day it's levitz. Most people still like CJ stral. How do you break that down? First of all, if the Texans don't take a quarterback number two overall, Jim or say might do a backflip in the Indianapolis Colts draft room. He, of course, being the owner and their GM Chris Ballard might do the same thing because all of a sudden they're bound to land, or they have at least a better shot of landing their preferred quarterback option after Bryce young and I always tell people that evaluating quarterbacks has some similarities to going to a neighborhood where there are 5 homes available for sale. They're all on the market for the same price and there are some similarities, but the each have their unique differences, right? One might have a pool, one might have the best back deck out of all of them. What might have a three car garage on the others only have a two car garage or no garage. And so if you me and three others went to this neighborhood, we might all have a different preference on which one we like the most. So I think on average, if you were to rank these quarterbacks or if you were to have the aggregate grades from the 32 NFL teams, one would be Bryce young, two would be CJ strout, three would be Anthony Richardson and four will be will levis, I also think though that it's possible that there are a handful of teams that have will levis as the number one or two quarterback on the board. There are unfold teams that have Anthony Richardson as the number one or two quarterback on the board. It's just a little bit of what is your taste in quarterbacks and that determines how these guys end up being drafted. Incredible conversation. I know, feel that we don't get a chance to see you often, but I think you're the best. There is, and we are always enjoy having you on. Thank you very, very much. Paul, you're the best. Thanks for having me on. We'll do it again soon. I can't wait. Phil Jay is joining us from ESPN. As we head to the break, your phone calls are straight around the corner. Other guests later on.

"Bomb show podcast. The beat reporter, now our fine bomb show analyst for all things Aggie Matt in San Antonio. My son is a science admin in my life. The last one all you up laugh, love, not all you want, but you're seeing my senior years this year. At least you know who our choreograph is going to be. You don't. You're all physically self. You can't do anything. I don't want to make you think that you can get an Alabama now. So last but I said, thank you last night. We reach out to you before we do it again. So shut it and shove it. And pause it. If I don't want to tell you, I don't know how to tell you that first because I'm going to be happy. Unless we are crystal, we're going to move in as roommates and get on an apartment. Take a city 26 minutes away. I want to see you know that. And if you ever come down to Texas, maybe you might keep you rudder, can go out, have some drinks. I found I could beat you in dark. Listen as someone else might chess Paul. I never regret calling this show because you like a brother to me. I very much kids someday, I want you to be their grandfather, our golfer and we'll talk to you on the call. As well. Well, you got it, Matt, hey, thank you very much. That means a great deal. Let's check in with Trey in Arkansas. How do you do it today, Paul? Hey, Trey. I was wanting to do this. I wanted to apologize but I was rude to you yesterday Matt for San Antonio. Made me mad, but I wanted to talk about why is nobody talking about Arkansas defensive line in if you could, just pull up Georgia schedule and then pull up Arkansas. That's not fair. George is the back bank national champions. What do they get the KPop of an SEC schedule? I understand that we play in the west, but that's just not fair. Thank you very much for John is up next in Louisville. Hey, John. Speaking of not very good afternoon. We need to get a new phone maybe call us mom and give him a new phone. I can't understand anything he's saying. Well, we need a phone that slows down the interpretation too. He has subtitles. I hear you. Hey, Bobby petrino. A hostage deal and you want to camouflage your voice or kidnapping, just hire Matt. Just listen how much money you're right. Good opening interview. Bobby petrino is being kept away from your reporters and the interns. I'm sure both Paul, what's the name of the new Georgia mascot? Aga? I have no idea. What's your name? Boom. Not Griffith. Boom. What a shame for a dog. Yeah, well, I'm sure he's relate to my grip. Jack and buster and bubba and whatever. One with a lot of thought. Hey, are you surprised at the lack of good talent in the 15 day transfer report opening? No, because this is the second portal. Remember, most players after the season realized they have no future. I can't imagine too many players thinking they're going to make it back up in, I mean, the only players that should be disillusioned now are the ones who showed up in December from high school and realized they're not credit out for that school. Well, how about Sam Hartman up there and Notre-Dame his offensive coordinator and quarterback coach leaves? And he's got a coach. You do have to think that there could be a surprise in this portal and with big game hunters looking for QBs like one in the SEC, maybe somebody will change your heart. Or Hartman. I'm wondering if yes, Florida is having a problem either racing a surety bond to guarantee payment or just getting cash to attract a good quarterback. Well, here's what happened. You're in business shine. You make a bad deal. It makes it harder the next time around. And they had a very sloppy introduction to NIL with Rashad. It blew up in their whatever reason, and I think that scared the suitors away. That's what I meant. Whoever comes there is good demand assured. Hey Paul, we had our passionate fans make a couple of predictions yesterday. And I want you to let us know which is the most outrageous. We had Dwayne saying LSU would win it all. Matt and perhaps expires well talking about 9 wins for Texas a and M or Dustin who I like and said he gave up comedy actually said 9 wins for Arkansas, which is the most outrageous. The most sensible, I think, could be mad. I think a and M could win 9 games. The other two have no chance. Oh, good. I can't wait for Dwayne to call in. Thank you, John. Appreciate it. She was up next in deep gap. Good afternoon, Paul. A couple of things. I'm not buying any predictions about Ohio State until they prove that they can beat Michigan. It's all kind of holla predictions. And I don't know that any forecasting and speculation about next year's rankings really are worth the paper. They're written on at this point. Nobody knows what anybody's got. They all play in it close to the best Paul. But that's not why I called. Do you have a handle or a feeling about how these quads are going to sort out? Yeah, not exact, but I've heard a few speculation. I don't know anything that you probably haven't already heard, but there have been some at least there will be some difference given to regional importance for the fan base on the three per minute. I think there will be, but there will also be some who just simply don't work in that regard. So Missouri doesn't fit anybody. No in the problem. Yeah, I mean, like Oklahoma, you either have to give them Arkansas, Missouri, and somebody in Texas or but a lot of times, those slots have already been filled. I mean, the weirdest one in Texas say an M Texas Arkansas and Oklahoma should be a quad. And I could see LSU, the Mississippi's in Missouri in a quad. Yeah, but here is where I've already heard Alabama with Tennessee auburn and LSU. So that knocks out one of the weirdest one I've heard you is Florida and Oklahoma. You can't work. We're going to look at something like Georgia, Florida, auburn, and Alabama.

"Well, it seems like maybe that's changing here and at least maybe we're headed in the right direction on that front now. Brent, you mentioned Katrina, I always hate to assume that they teach you that in early days of the journalism never assume anything. Should I assume that Bobby petrino has not met the media either? Very safe assumption on your part. I also try to make that point. If you want better stories and more insight, you would make your coordinators available. Now, he does once a year or tries to once a year in August. But yes, to your to answer your question, you know, Bobby petrino, and of course when I requesting they almost just kind of laugh at the idea that Bobby petrino would actually go in front of the media and Brian called station, which is something else I can't quite figure out in terms of why there's so much fear in that aspect of not allowing your coordinators to visit with the media. So yes, we have not talked to him. Maybe we'll get to in August. And if so, certainly look forward to that. Well, I have talked to him before. You're not missing much, just to have two, because he beat the aggies in the music city bowl one year when a certain Lamar Jackson was a freshman quarterback. So I visited with him then as well. Yeah. Well, count me out for that one. Please call as soon as you get through the interview. I can't wait to right here. You had something else interesting in. We are, I don't know, 5, 6 weeks away from what should be a very important conf down at the beach. And you write today that Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC not only next year, but they'll be joining the current 14 member institutions at the beach explain. Yeah, I thought that was kind of cool that they're actually including last year as you remember they were on a maybe a zoom or teleconference with from Destin. That's just no, that's not a good way to see dust and Paul is by teleconference. So from my understanding is and I got this actually from Chase goodbread. I think he posts something from Greg sankey meeting with APSC down in Birmingham that Texas officials will actually be on hand in destiny and as they kind of continue that acclimation period, even with another year in the big 12 now. I then checked with the Texas official to make sure that was correct. And he said yes, that was the plan. I said, now the real story would be if they showed up at the SEC media days in 2023 in July and Nashville. So we need that to happen. The reason why it's a big deal is that we're trying to get some clarification on what the schedule is going to look like. And I'm assuming that Texas and OU would be part of that decision, would they not? Oh, I think so. Absolutely. 100%. Yeah. I mean, the move forward with the spring meetings is so much different than immediate days, you know, in terms of they actually get some real business done. So I think that's why they're wanting to include them and show them that Destin this time of year might be a little more scenic than Irving Texas or Kansas City, Missouri as well. So that's kind of a probably in pretty neat aspect from the longhorns and sooners advantage as well. Well, we started the show where it's an FPI in Texas a and M is 19 so you're already hearing some alleged hot takes from people like me who think Texas a and M is going to be a lot better next year. You cover the team last year was a mess after being preseason number 6. What are you thinking in relation to the ceiling for this team in 23? Well, Paul, I think the biggest dynamic by far is what we've mentioned is the petrino Fisher relationship and how much Jimbo is going to be able to remove himself from that process. We haven't seen it yet the spring game was very vanilla, so it wasn't like there was a whole lot of difference there with what was going on, but it depends on how much Jimbo can step back, let Bobby petrino run his offense, do what he does and then Jimbo can kind of be in more of an overall. So if Jimbo can't handle that and we know, I mean, I understand the human nature of what, for the last 30 years, 25 years, he's called plays and so forth in college. So it's not going to be easy for him, but it was an absolute necessary move. If the aggies want to have any hope at all, it's competing for the SEC west title. So keep an eye on that relationship and how all that goes is I think by far the number one storyline. And I will say this, the quarterback, I think banks Johnson is going to give Connor wigman a go for it a run for the starting position as well based on what I saw Saturday and what I'm hearing people said penciled in counterweight as a starter, but I don't know necessarily know that that's going to be the case. I think manx Johnson is going to make every case for himself to also be the starter. Well, you cover the team, but watching the aggies over the past couple of years, having a couple of quarterbacks isn't a bad idea. Well, you know, Jimbo told us he had two NFL future NFL quarterbacks in Zack calzada and Haynes king and so I guess we'll see how that plays out moving forward as well. Neither one are with the program anymore, by the way, Paul. I've never seen a more camp misguide than Haynes king, according to one jumbo Fisher. So that is good news. And I hope you get more face time with Jimbo. He's a real comedian and we hope to hear more. Brent, thank you. Appreciate it as always, Brunson's ornament, joining us from the Houston chronicle and we have a lot to do on the program today. We mentioned where we will be going. We'll talk a little bit about that Ohio State preseason number one ranking. Your phone calls are

"Then pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul fine bomb show hour one podcast. Welcome in on a Tuesday and Georgia has been dethroned as the number one team in the country. Nothing like a mic. You heard what I said. I'll say it again in a minute, but we'll tell you about the big story of the day, the FPI is out, nobody's taking any national championships away. Let's get right to it. How about this, Ohio State, according to the FPI, and you can complain all you want about who they are and what they are. But it's a power prediction by ESPN in Ohio State is projected to be the number one team in the country followed by Alabama so much for the end of the dynasty. Georgia is three. Where is LA shoe? How about number four? Texas is back. Yeah, right. They are number 5, Michigan, USC, Clemson, Notre-Dame and Penn State. This is how the SEC lives according to mister FPI, who was unavailable for comment. Alabama, LSU, omis a and M Arkansas, Mississippi auburn on the eastern side, a and M 19th in the country after a 5 and 6 record, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, mizu, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt. And where have you heard this before, a and M has some issues? That's according to an article in the Houston chronicle. That Houston chronicle, not a popular newspaper by one Jimbo Fisher. But Brent zwernemann is a popular guest, and he joins us now. Brett, thank you very much for joining us. So I take it from Jimbo Fisher. He does not approve of your writing. Good afternoon. Good afternoon, Paul. As Jimbo figured out that him saying he doesn't look forward to my questions or doesn't want my questions it's actually a compliment to the beat rider. And would rather hear from maybe a fan website or so. And I will say Owen Buchanan from Texas. He has some tough questions as well. But yeah, that's actually a compliment to the beat writer when a coach wants to avoid your questions, but I will say this, it kind of got blown out of proportion because Jimbo was having fun now. I will say this. He was laughing and all that winking and so forth. But he is trying to get a point across as well. When he says that, you know, there is some truth to it, but hey, we're all having fun at the end of spring girls. So that's the way they wrapped up with Jimbo saying he didn't want to take any questions from the eastern chronicle before he took the final two of the screen drills from me. Brennan, we replayed it yesterday. And I have to agree with you. And I hate it when it happens to all of us. You say something and it's taken literally and nobody knows what kind of inflection. But to me, that was, that was the old jumbo Fisher. That was the dad gum Jimbo Fisher. He seems like he has found his moral compass again or some sort of compass. So describe what you have seen, watching him through a pretty brutal transition from last year to the upcoming season. A lot of new faces. What is your evaluation of spring? Paul, what are those levels of grief or whatever? It seems like maybe he's at acceptance on the Bobby petrino front because from his first press conference to introduce spring drills where he was very combative. We're all looking at each other and they're going, hey, this is the time of the year when everybody wins. You know, it's almost like signing day. Everybody wins on signing day. Everybody wins spring drills and especially the start. And he was very combative in fielding questions about Bobby petrino. He went three months without even talking to us, which I can't remember that ever happening over about a quarter century of covering the aggies of a football coach kind of disappear and are not visiting with the media for three months. And then once he did, he was very combative. Well, not long after that with our couple of appearances with the visits with him after that, he was much more friendly, much more relaxed. In fact, that whole deal where he said he didn't want to take a question from the eastern chronicle and he wanted to a better question from elsewhere from Texas, we didn't even talk about it. I remember we were walking out of the room and we were talking about, hey, we got two new players. You know, I had made a pitch. We kind of talked to some new players here and get some new fresh stories going, we're all talking about that. Like it didn't even come up in terms of what he said. And then the next thing you know, it's the story and awful announcing where they're making a big deal of it. And to see him, it does seem like maybe he is growing more comfortable with the idea that he can be the CEO guy, the walk around guy, now he'll tell you, oh, I've been on the defensive side 20 in the past decade. So it does seem like he's much more comfortable. And yes, I will agree with you. That was the old Jimbo where he'll take his shots and try to get his point across, but he was in a much better move than he was early in the spring. Brent, how does one of the most recognizable figures in college sports avoid the media for three months? Well, first you start by going down Paul, you did go old school with that record, you said earlier, you said 5 and 6 and that's the old days. He was actually 5 and 7 with those 12 games. For starters, he did a signing deal, you know, the early right before Christmas, the early signing period, he did a press conference then. So with no bowl game, no media availability, and then they didn't really sign anybody on the traditional signing day. I would have thought he would have gotten together with us just to talk about maybe a couple of transfers and so forth and just talk about in the state of the program. He didn't. The first time he was finally available is when he had to be, which was the start of spring drills. I had never seen anything like it. I mean, as I've kind of made the point over and over, those of us who live in this town and Brian College Station, and it's our bread and butter, Texas a and M football, it's why I get to live here as an old fashioned speaking old fashioned and old fashioned bureau. You know, you're trying to come up with stories in manufacturing and kind of switch around the same information to kind of cover your cover your beat all while the head coach is not available for three months and kind of bringing them not taking our player request and bringing the same couple of guys. Well, it seems like maybe that's changing here and at least maybe we're headed in the right direction on that front now. Brent, you mentioned Katrina,

"The entire football world continues to talk about Lamar Jackson just one day after the franchise tag deadline. We're going to dive into that plenty today on NFL live. Here's our crew you recognize them already on the left, Ryan Clark, on the right Adam chapter. I'm field Yates keyshawn Johnson will be joining us in just a little bit, but we are off and running with the Lamar latest as after the former NFL MVP received the non exclusive franchise tag from Baltimore on Tuesday. The door is now open for another team to potentially offer him a contract. The ravens would have the right to match that contract assuming Lamar, of course, signed that offer sheet from a different team. He's at an historic start to his career back in two 1019, Jackson became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win MVP when he also became the first player NFL history to have at least 30 passing touchdowns and a thousand Russian yards in a single season. He's also the only player to have multiple games with three passing touchdowns and a hundred rushing yards. He's on that four times. However, of course, shortly after the news broke that he had received the non exclusive franchise tag reports out of the indicate that there are multiple teams, including some that are into quarterback that are not going to pursue Jackson. Those teams for the falcons, dolphins, Panthers, and commanders. If you're confused, you're not alone. As JJ watts, future NFL Hall of Famer, is also confused. He took to Twitter to last night when he saw the news and asked this question. Quote, why are all of these teams so publicly out on the mar Jackson and MVP winner in his prime at the most important position in the entire NFL? What am I missing here? No better person than answer that question, then Adam Schefter is chef de everybody is wondering, what is the market looking like for Lamar Jackson now? Well field Lamar Jackson is trying to do something that has never been done in free agency before. Now he could be. Just the guy to do it as talented and as elite talent as he is. But if we go back over the 30 years of free agency, full 30 years, there's been only one player ever to receive the non franchise tag, sign an offer sheet with another team and wind up on that team and that was Sean Gilbert, the great defensive tackle in 1998, who signed an offer sheet with Carolina, Washington declined to match and he wound up on Carolina. There is never been a quarterback who's gotten a non exclusive franchise tag who's so much as signed in offer sheet with another team. And I think that's probably one element that Baltimore was thinking when it decided to put the lower tag on Lamar ejection. He faces other obstacles now as well because as he looks to seek that contract, any team that signs him to an offer sheet would have to have that money counting against their salary cap for the full week until Baltimore determined whether or not to match that offer sheet. So it's a situation where if he were to sign a four year $200 million deal with the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore ultimately might match it because they want Lamar Jackson back and have tried to resign him and there might be a team out there that's worried about creating an offer sheet for the ravens, but in the interim that money would have to be free on their cap and would count against their cap, which could take up their cap for the first 7 days of free agency if that's when they decided to act. And the other issue that will have to overcome is it's one thing to do a deal with a team when you're trying to get that done and you're not using an agent. Look, most people could essentially compare contracts and come up with something that's fair value. But now we've entered into a different realm. Now, Lamar Jackson needs to be on the phone every day with general managers and owners of other teams when some of them might not know how to reach him. And the process becomes a lot more challenging when you're acting as your own agent while you're trying to be the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens. Yes, for two years, Lamar was working on the deal with Baltimore and he could get that done. No problem. But now he's by himself with his mother and they have to find a way to talk to, let's just say David tepper, Arthur blank, or Daniel Snyder, or whoever it may be, that would be shining off on a huge deal. So there are a lot of obstacles that he will have to overcome. He is an unbelievable quarterback. There are many teams that could use him, but I think teams obviously would have a question about whether they would be creating an offer sheet that Baltimore would match or whether it would be a situation where they would get them tie up their cap. There's a lot of questions to answer, but Lamar Jackson now will have to figure them out as he attempts to get that fully guaranteed contract that a lot of people believe he deserves. A ton of very valuable and important context right there chef the I'll ask you are so what do you think about teams within what seemed like hours of the news coming out yesterday that Lamar Jackson had received the non exclusive franchise tag to learn themselves out? Okay, I'm going to get to that. Listening to Adam Schefter kind of go through the details of the non exclusive tag. I'm starting to see more and more why Baltimore opted to play it that way to know that no quarterback has ever left his team to understand that you're basically and essentially handicapping a team for the first week of free agency winning the truth they may never even get Lamar because you can match it. What team is going to be willing to have themselves in free agent purgatory waiting on Lamar Jackson in the situation where you might not even get them. Now let me talk a little bit about these teams being public. Let's think about the draft. Let's think about any situation where teams are working on getting with players or becoming better. Nobody publicly says anything. Right, they hold things close to the vest. They try to make sure that you don't know maybe we are going to try and get this quarterback or maybe we are going to bring them in. Maybe we are looking at this guy in the draft of free agency. But now all of a sudden with Lamar Jackson, we all want to get the megaphone and say, hey, guess what? We don't want him. You know what? When Carson Wentz was able was on the market last year, we went and we traded for him, Washington, but hell no, we don't want lamarck, Carolina. Atlanta, when Deshawn Watson was available, hell, we wanted him, but Lamar Jackson hell no. Why all of a sudden are all these teams who need quarterbacks trying to make it public that they don't want me Lamar Jackson. Because at the combine, Baltimore talked to him and they already knew that they didn't want Lamar Jackson because it's collusion. It's the way it works. It's why the NFL PA sued after the 2011 lockout. This is part of it. Well, listen, last year, RC, these teams are all interested in deshaun Watson and I don't believe that Atlanta, New Orleans or Carolina were willing to give him the guaranteed contract that Cleveland was, but Cleveland was informed by deshaun Watson that it was out that he was eliminating them. And because they were so desperate and because they were out, they stepped up and did something that did upset and aggravate other NFL owners. So there's no question about that. But this is also a case where I laid out all those obstacles. Here's one other obstacle. There are teams at the top of the drift that we all agree could use Lamar Jackson and his services. But every team is going through the process and saying to itself, okay, we could sign Lamar Jackson to a fully guaranteed deal that we may or may not get him on, tie up our cap. And here's the situation. If we're going to pay him 200 million, two 5 billion 300 million, you come up with a number. draft rice young or CJ Stroud or Anthony Richardson who lit up the combine last week and pay them total $30 million total and it would cost us only one first round draft pick and there are four quarterbacks that are going to go in the top ten or 12 picks. So that I think also the incentivizes some of these teams from running out there and putting out a 202 153 $100 million

"Dear court. I think he's a really good quarterback man. Absolute guy you can win with. Car in the shotgun. Lofting left. To the end zone. One play. One touchdown. Car looking downfield. Adams over his shoulder. Touchdown raiders. Perfect throw. Derek into the pocket loves one downfield for Adams at the goal line over shoulder touchdown. On a beautiful ball. I want to win. Breaking news around Derek Carr as we welcome you into NFL live Derek Carr has officially been released by the Raiders, which was expected, of course, they needed to release him by 4 p.m. today to not be able to look for the 40.4 million dollars in what would have been guaranteed money. That means he can go sign with any team. We've got Dan orlowski in here doing something that looks like a motorcycle pull. I don't know what that is. And we have Marcus spears as well as field Yates, Ryan Clark, joining us to Dan. We start with you. Your initial reaction to now knowing that Derek Carr is a free agent. Two teams come to mind the New York Jets in the Carolina Panthers. I'll remind everybody of two things. In 2021, Derek Carr midseason was an MVP candidate and ask yourself this. When was the last time this league had a top ten top 12 caliber player at that position? That was a free agent. I just love the beauty of him being a free and clear free agent, do. Like the opportunity to be courted to make a decision based on where you think you can win right away, but also get compensated. Derek Carr is a really good quarterback in this league. You can win with Derek Carr. I think you need pieces around him, but that's majority of the guys in this league, but very rarely, to your point, do guys get a chance to be free agents in this league and the fact that he's a quarterback with success, phenomenal. Send Derrick Carr said, Las Vegas Raiders, you not about to get no picks from me. I'm gonna walk into this thing where I'm free and clear and I get the opportunity to vet these teams as they'll be vetting me. He's a top 15 talent at the position probably higher and now he'll get a chance to find a team that matches, but also wants him to be on that team. I think this is great for Derek Carr. And timing is everything in life. No one likes to get fired, but worth noting that Derek Carr does not have to wait until the NFL's new league year begins in the middle of March. He is free to sign with the team right this second, so other quarterbacks that could be traded or free agents like Jimmy Garoppolo still have to wait a month. Derek Carr is a head start on the field. His courting process can begin immediately, Laura. That's an excellent point filled yeats and we saw Adam Schefter's tweet that according to his sources, the saints and Panthers expected to be some of the teams interested. We'll get to this later on with exact destinations and more information around Derek R, but more breaking news today. The 2023 coaching cycle now complete the latest news is the Cardinals have hired eagle defensive coordinator Jonathan gannon. So the eagles lose both their OC and D.C. on the same day. We'll talk about The O.C. in just a little bit. The cardinals finally have a more complete idea of their outlook going forward with Kyler Murray and a team that's been in flux. The cardinals are clearly looking to upgrade their defense with the hire of ganon. Last season, Arizona allowed the second most points in the league and ranked near the bottom in both yards per play in defensive efficiency. As for ganon's defense in Philadelphia, the eagles ranked top ten in all those areas, including first in yards per plate, Phil, if you go to a Super Bowl if you're gannon and then you're a head coach two days later, how did this all go down? Yeah, quite a whirlwind, Laura. And should be noted that teams can not hire a head coach from another team when he's under contract until after his season was over, so the cardinals had to wait for Jonathan ginnen, but I'm told that interest intensified in ganon early last week Laura. This was sort of a late entry into the party for Jonathan gannon, but he gets this job, the final opening, we'll talk about the other opening that was filled recently as well. Began and takes over a team that is in a bit of a potential crossroad, sort of a retooling of the roster with Kyler Murray, potentially out to begin next season during his ACL recovery and a team that finished with a third worst record in the NFL, a new GM, a new head coach in place. This is about looking towards the future and not expecting this is going to be a one year make it right rebuild. Dan, how do you like this hire for Kyler Murray? That'll work. This is an uphill battle or uphill climb for both Kyler Murray and Jonathan gannon. We know collar got his money last year, okay? Jonathan gannon is stepping into a situation in a new general manager in Monty Austin fort. This roster is not nearly as good as it was two years ago. They went to the playoffs against the rams. He's got to get healthy. I think the biggest challenge for Jonathan ganon is getting Kyler Murray to believe you as the head coach can allow me to be kind of myself, but demand that I get better to be the quarterback of this football team. It ain't little games anymore. It's time to grow up in this league. That's real. It's time to grow up. And Jonathan ganon has got to be the leader that pulls that out of Kyler Murray. A soul assisted DB coach DB coach and then defensive coordinator of a really good unit that had success this year in Philadelphia. To your point, Dan, we'll find out how you manage men. Like that's what head coaching is about. Like, we know that these guys have acumen exes in the old wires and we understand that they may have success in other areas, but they experience that I thought was needed in Arizona was a guy to come in with a little bit of stature and I'm not sure like this hire obviously Arizona likes Jonathan gannon and Jonathan did a good job with the Philadelphia Eagles this year from a defensive standpoint, but I thought this job should have been dedicated to somebody that's got some cache and stock in this league. Because to your point, the old John again and number one job is to get kyla Murray to be one of the 53 guys. Like we talked about all season alone. I want to see how that relationship materializes. You can get better on defense, but if you quarterback ain't listening to you or don't respect the people in the building, it don't matter how good you are on that side of the ball. Well, I think that's a piece of it too, which is why I thought luana rumo, who was a little older coach, had been in locker rooms for a bit of a time longer than Jonathan gannon would be a good person for this job where you get someone that was a former head coach and maybe none of those guys actually wanted these jobs. But here is what strikes me. You have Jonathan gannon who does a good job, but who is thoroughly out coached in the second half of this football game in a Super Bowl and Andy Reid shows you that he isn't necessarily up to the level that you need to be to win a championship. And then we see on the other side, a guy like Eric bending me who's been to 5 AFC championships. Also one, two super bowls and he's not necessarily up to snub to lead a locker room according to the executives according to the owners. Let's go back to last year with a guy like Raheem Morris, who was a young head coach in Tampa Bay. And now worked his way on both offense and defense and you actually win the Super Bowl with your defense coming up with the main stops against the sensing 90 Bengals who were seemingly unstoppable last year to win the Super Bowl. I don't want to be the guy that always has to bring up that black coaches are continually overlooked. I'm the guy that wants to bring up what are these other coaches doing that the African American and minority coaches aren't doing. That's allowing them to get jobs. Because it can no longer be about winning championships because neither Shane steichen, nor Jonathan gannon did that, but here we are two days after the game. That they lost by the way and they now have head coaching jobs. All I'm asking is, make it make sense. It's an important point RC and we'll continue to bring it up here on this show. More on Eric B enemy is coming later in NFL live, okay? And thanks for saying that RC. In Moorehead coaching news today, we alluded to it. The eagles also lose their offensive coordinator Shane steichen to be the head coach of the colds. He had

"So you put together the fact that they can save on the cap that they have some guys in house that they've drafted and use resources on recently in the pipeline and a stacked edge linebacker class to begin with in the 2022 draft and you get this Kyle van noy move and why Kyle van noy won't be on this team next year. Yeah. This is typical short sighted instant reaction. Oh, they need linebackers. They cut Calvin with the same people have been whining for the last two years to chase winovich can't get on the field that Josh uche can't get on the field. It's one way or the other. Either keep in or you keep the veterans to keep bearing the kids, or we were saying they need to find a way for these guys to get on the field, right? Uche, channings, Perkins. I think winovich is more of a defensive end at this point than, you know, I don't think he's playing van noy's role at this now. Those other three, I think, could. So now those guys, now there's space for those guys to play. Will any of them step up and win the job? That's, you know, we'll see an OTAs. We'll see throughout camp in the preseason. Do they need to draft on the edge? I don't know that they need to. I think between those three, you'll be able to get serviceable play on the outside. But they've done it the last three years for the last 5. They've taken an edge rusher on day two. So they'll probably continue to add to that equation. I thought van noy had a really good year last year. I did. I thought he was one of their best defensive players last year. He was excellent. Opening up $5 million in letting some of the kids play. I think this is ultimately a net positive move. I really do. Socks for Calvin, no, this is a second year in a row. He's been a cat casualty, right? I think he'll end up somewhere. I think he'll, you know, some people have floated the Raiders and makes a ton of sense. I was going to say, wonder if you go to the Steelers, but actually him and Flores don't get along, right? But yeah, I think this is ultimately a good move. It's a little bit of a risk. A little bit of a risk, but I think, you know, the risk reward balance, the potential reward is so much higher than what the risk is. Yeah, I mean, you drafted guys like Ronnie Perkins and Joshua in particular, I would say over the last two years so that you can save this $5 million on the cap by not having better and like Kyle van noy. Exactly. At some point you gotta let it ride and see if these guys can play. The other thing I would say about this is the Patriots and I tweeted this out after they are after field Yates reported that Kyle van noy has been released. The Patriots were cap compliant before this move. They didn't need to do this move when they did it. Now maybe there are some good faith arguments here that they did it to let Kyle van noy hit the open market early and potentially sign somewhere. So that he was ahead of things. That could be part of it. But the main thing is that I see they're freeing up cap space. And I don't think that this is the only move that they're going to make to free up cap space over.

"Want to get to some of the Odell stuff here in a second Alex and just put a bow on the Odell Beckham junior sweepstakes, pursuit, whatever you want to call it, but some news just coming down right now from ESPN's field Yates is that brown's top running back. Nick Chubb will not play in the game on Sunday, so no Nick Chubb for the browns. I do think this considerably changes the equation for the Patriots defense and how you game plan and scheme up against this brown's offense. Well, it certainly helps, right? You know, you don't have to face running back. And we also know Kareem hunt's not playing, demetrick Felton, who we both really liked during the draft isn't playing. So yeah, yeah, they're in good shape. You know, it's interesting, because I'm sure we'll talk about the Patriots running backs too and Stevenson. Stevenson and Harris both missing practice today. So we've all been talking about all week and we, I mean, me you, Matt, doll if we work with everybody who's covering this game. Yeah. We've been talking about winning upfront, running the football in the trenches all that both teams might have to throw the ball on Sunday and that could be really interesting because I don't think that's what anybody expected. I think it could be fun. But certainly this game kind of taking a hard left turn here in a few days leading up. I actually think that heavily favors the Patriots. Thank you. A passing game. And mainly because I'm confident in the Patriots past defense right now and the way that they've been playing without Odell in Cleveland, we're going to talk about Odell not coming here to New England, but with that Odell in Cleveland, Donovan peoples Jones, Jarvis Landry, they're tight ends. That's what they're working with, really, right now with the browns. And you start to look at some of these pieces. People's Jones is played well over the last couple of weeks about the last month or so. He's been a dynamic downfield threat, but mostly off of play action. And skiing up those deep shots off of PA and you look at deer and as Johnson, he started a couple of weeks ago on that Thursday night game against a Denver Broncos an averaged over 6.6.

"So The raiders right now. I'm seeing field. Yates tweet about it or hosting. Former titans and falcons cornerback. Blidi ray wilson. So he's somebody that's had some time in the league. What do you think about that if they were to talk to him an ankle not course but talk to him and bring him into the raiders. I think that it'd be good. I think you know it. It adds another as another amount of depth. I think that what you need to look at is you need to look at depth across the board right. There needs to be there. Needs to be death in every level of aspect. But i think he's not a guy that's going to be that big that big sexy signing you need somebody who still going to be that i think that bringing in yarmuk is is something that's exciting but you still need to have more than i think with all the players that are out there right now. There's still so many big names that are out there in the out their free agency. The raiders can still make a splash fisher. And i'll do the name. Richard sherman as well agree with you on that love it. I wanna get your take overall on when you start looking at what mike mayock and jon gruden have done in the past drafts and you start looking at how those players have developed. What was the really high point for you as a raider fan getting somebody there that can be a real building block. I think that the high point is you you see seat. You're starting to see improvements in a you. See guys that are that are able to come in You see guy you know. Mike monagas great evaluator. I think that you know. I think some of the biggest things are that you know. We just need to keep guys healthy. But i think that some of the biggest points or that. The raiders are doing a good job. And i talked to. I had on my podcast. The other day. I'd thorne nostrum from abc. Sports edge talked about mike successes in the middle of the draft You know bringing guys like foster monroe hunter. Renfrow you know the undrafted free agents max. Crosby's i think those things. But i think the raiders first of all foremost that they have to hit on the first round. I remembered the hunter renfrow pig. I was like oh as the cup that touchdown and the he's cool. That was a good pick too..

Philadelphia Eagles Sign Super Bowl 47 MVP Joe Flacco
"Big news coming out of philly. Yesterday joe flacco agreeing to a contract with the eagles. It's a one year deal. Three and a half million dollars. Guaranteed the opportunity to win. Four million more in incentives. Now what does this mean. As far as the eagles and their draft plans remember. They only have one quarterback on the roster until this and that's jalen hurts and they have the six pick in the draft and as you see mel kiper junior and his latest mock has been taking the superstar receiver tamar chase from lsu which would be awfully knife or any quarterback that they have there but so does this mean mel again. It is not your expectation mel with us field. Yates as well here today. It does this mean and again. You're you're mock has them taking chase anyway but the signing flacco does that in your view. Close the door on any possibility that they draft a quarterback at number six. I think they would even going in before flacco. You think about. Joe flacco wise ian eagle thinking about the baltimore raven connection with the philadelphia eagles. Joe douglas and joe flacco who drafted where the want super bowl with the baltimore ravens. So there's that always that connection you can always go to. Guys are picked up later in their career. So for joe. Douglas bringing in a joe flacco you think about what he was doing with the jets in terms of the situation there. And then you've got the philadelphia eagles their same type of thing that raven connections. So i think when you look backing up jalen hurts right now. I don't think he's a threat. I think jalen that guy get jomar chase and go four with him and help jalen hurts and then reassess after the year's over that's what they will do that influence with the raven organization in philadelphia as a factor. I think it's a factor throughout the green and there always is joe. Flacco is a good backup came in the league. Same your matt ryan did and that ryan slow playing great football of course super bowl but Joe flacco did. But i think it's a good situation to have joe flacco there behind. The jalen hurts. Jalen hurts gets hurt. Your season's not over joke and still play. But i think this is jalen team right now. I thought it was carson wentz's team that didn't work out. But i think if you get your march help jalen hurts and then you make your decision air to this year whether in the twenty twenty two draft you have to think about drafting. A young quarterback failed. Same question to you. Does this mean in your mind that the eagles are out of the quarterback market at six. It does not greedy in. Here's a simple reason. Why i agree with everything else that i'm going to double back to that in just a moment. I just have long believed that if you are convinced. A player can be a franchise quarterback that if he's available at six. You have to at least consider it. If you're philadelphia. Now that being said all the indications this offseason from the previous reporting from more about the eagles plan to build around jalen hurts this year plus the signing of joe flacco which at least gives them a veteran option at the very least relatively modest priced by the way three point five million dollars. There are so many signs at the plan. This year is to find ways to make jalen hurts better so i still believe that ultimately the eagles are gonna be in prime position to land one of the best pass catchers in this year's draft a quarterback should not be entirely ruled out. And that's just me having seen the league long enough to know that sometimes teams do things the catch us by surprise even if they should not have caught us by surprise

Who is QB2 in 2021 NFL Draft?
"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to

"Morning. They'll see him. Those they'll check his vision. Check his reaction to light. Um they'll check his concentration of go through the impact test. All these different testings that are done pre season to get a baseline, see worriers on the baseline. If you passed that initial baseline, test the cognitive test, then he can go into activity Where the riding on a bike they'll running on a treadmill. They'll get his heart rate up and then see if that triggers any respond any symptoms of responses. Still no symptoms. Then he can go out and he could be back at practice. So Just the way things turn out. There is a possibility that by Wednesday you could be back out of practice. But if there's even any signs or symptoms That he's not 100% ready to go. He has to go back to the beginning. So say he passes. The cognitive tests say he passes the physical exertion test. Then he goes back on the field and just doesn't feel right is to start it all over again. And so Obviously, safety is at the paramount, but I know they can see the Chiefs want to get their superstar quarterback back as fast as possible. Yeah, it'll be the story that everyone's going to be paying attention to this week for sure. Now that it is locked, the game is over. Kansas City will be facing the Buffalo Bills in the A F C championship. Fun fact here if Patrick the homes does take the field next weekend, guys Josh Alan, He's 24 Patrick Moms is 25. If they face off next weekend, it will be just the second Conference championship game where both starting quarterbacks were 25 or younger. I mean, we are blessed with Some young guys who are just incredible talents when it comes to our NFL quarterbacks this year, hoping everything is OK with Patrick Mahomes. As far as his health goes, a Zoe said, certainly will be monitoring that if we get anything over the next couple hours, we will keep you posted on that great season for the Browns, So we're going to get into that more on prime time. I know that's something that field, Yates has said not only today, but for weeks. The Brown should absolutely be proud of making the postseason despite how today went definitely a great season for them. I know fans are hurting right now. But ah lot to be proud of. For that Cleveland organization We will get into that. Plus, we have one more game to go tonight. We're going to get into it next on Prime time. "2021 is off to a great start. If you're Cleveland Browns fan, the Browns heading to the playoffs for the first time since the 2002 2003 season. Welcome back to prime time on ESPN radio with field Yates and markers like I'm Melissa Lang and Guys, we have former NFL kicker Phil Dawson joining us now on the Goodyear hotline. He spent 19 years in the NFL played for the Cleveland Browns from 1999 to 2012. So he was on that 2002 Brown squad. That made it all the way, Phil. Thank you so much for being here with us. I think the first question is how excited are you to see the guys heading back to the postseason? Finally. It's been a long time coming and a lot of lot of dark, sad years in between, but to see the team and the city. Be able to put it all together and such a strange year that 20 twenties been. It's only fitting that the Browns are back in the playoffs and I man I wish I was up there. I know the city's going nuts, so feel like it's one thing to say the Browns made the playoffs. But for those that other haven't spent time in Cleveland or aren't as familiar with what the Browns fan base is like. Describe what you imagine The emotions are today in northeast Ohio, and maybe some sober motions. Maybe some people indulging in a couple of Bud light to celebrate. Yeah, you wouldn't been dropped on the revote, the steaming It's gonna be crazy. I mean, I bet you got grown men crying. You have babies being a You have people going to be missing work tomorrow? I mean, this is a This is a huge deal. And, uh, you know, Cleveland was a sports town before they hit the rough times. But you know, for the last 20 years to have such limited success, and now to finally come through and for those fans to hang in there and all those lean, tough years. No. There was a windless year in there. I mean, all that stuff. The constant turnover changing and coach is changing and up stairs, people front office ownership. I mean, everything was changing and forth, Finally,.

"And so yeah, that what's the life span of an NFL coach and that we've seen it's about what 23 years. That's about it. If you don't turn things around Jacksonville Good job number one pick Good offensive line. That's a That's an organization that you feel might be a player or two away from competing for a playoff spot. But you're right and that if you don't get that you don't have as much control Over it right. Like College, Ohio State your recruiting. You're controlling your your roster in such a way that you can kind of your drafting every time you recruit you're drafting, and the best teams continue to get number one picks. Where you know Jacksonville's you gotta you gotta be terrible in order to rebuild. Yeah, and you know, there's something to be said about always being in the mix. Place like Ohio State. Always knowing every single year you're going to compete for the national championship versus if we get lucky and things going on favor, Maybe we'll get into the playoffs, You know, which is far from a guarantee. Even if you get Trevor Laurette to these, he lives up to the hype. I just I don't think this generation of college coaches automatically get these opportunities and go. You know what? I got a lead. It was a case 15 years ago. It's not anymore. And it's also about my magic Mirror. Metcalf Sunday morning on ESPN rails, also about expectations. What are the expectations and such and such school or such and such NFL franchise? And are they attainable in X amount of years? And guys conceive through that. You know, there's some good and good college jobs were expectations are just get us to a bowl game. Win it If you could do that, you can't be happy. You're making a good paycheck. You stay The NFL little bit different. You need to make the playoffs and you need to start winning games in the playoffs and do that as well. So it'll be interesting. By the way there are when it comes to week 17 here. This is a weak unlike anything we've ever seen where they're seven playoff spots still up for grabs entering today, the most entering the final week of the season since the playoff field expanded to 12 teams In 1990 you go down the list of speaking of the difference between College and the pros about what's on the line here in week 17 like you go, You go to the last week of college football season. That's like, you know, long as they win, they're in and it'll be three teams and maybe there's a four team and we'll see. About with a win in week 17. These teams conclude, according to field Yates Packers, and if she's number one seed the bills they have sees number two seed. The tightness can clinch the F C. South Washington can clinch the NFC East. Bucks concludes a top one of the top seeds, the Bears a wild card, the Browns, a wild card, the Cardinals of wild card, The Dolphins, a wild card. The Rams and Ravens. Also wild cards. There are there's so much drama. Baked into today. Unfortunately, there's a lot of injuries as well. James, do we have? Look we have a There's a long list of injuries and inactives on, But I've been told that Mark Robbins has a list for us, and it's a very long list. He's doing our SportsCenter updates that he's a It's a very long list. We'd like to go to him throughout the show throughout the remainder of the show to try to get through this list. It's Cove. It inactives. It's injuries, and this guy's just resting as well going into today. Mark, what do you have forced you have any any of that? All right. Here's a list of the players on available whether resting injured or over 19 effective today. Kansas City. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill. He's resting flied Edwards, a lair. Well, he's been out for a couple of weeks already. Sammy Watkins. Patrick Mahomes is taking a breather for Kansas City today. The Chargers. Keenan Allen. Okay, well, the year Okay catches. All right. We'll come back. Thank you. Mark, Check back, Henry. Defensive it. Okay, so we both All right Bye. Detroit. Okay, alright, my, uh, Mark Roberts doing therapist. Hey, we're going to continue to check in with Mark Robbins throughout the show back Damian Harris. Okay. All right. That Z got tell. Miami won't have quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who tested positive for covert 19 earlier this week. Okay, take a break. Okay. You gotta redo the whole ship. Whiteout. DJ charge running back James Robinson. All right, all right way need I'm crying right now. We need to take a break for it continues to give us updates on those front available. This week will do that throughout the show coming up. Cove it impacted week 17. How likely is that It will impact the playoffs. Boston - Patriots cancel practice after another positive COVID-19 test
"At least by the reporting of Mike Reese and also field Yates of ESPN that the Broncos have A couple of or I should say the Patriots have a covert 19 positive, maybe two. What are you hearing? Yeah. And while I'm obviously here in the same stuff you in real time kind of trying to track it every step of the Broncos on haven't heard back yet to find out if they've heard from the league as Faras. Causing their plans or potentially looking at moved to. Ah, Monday starter a Tuesday on Tuesday. Kick potentially on so I'm sure that the Broncos are you know they're about to hit the practice field or they may be out there right now. Normally I'd be there. But again the new baby's keeping practice. But this is the practice will go Tell that 12 45. They're not going to change that at this point, because right now you work so much situational stuff. And not just situational is related to the game, but but situational things, you know, onside kick stuff and things that you know, I don't say trick plays. But just in case this happens in the game, be ready for this. So that'll hold game to game, Not just They're not. They play the Patriots, but certainly question mark now, if there is one or even two positive cases. Down current, though, who covers the Pats for NBC Sports Boston. I thought I had a pretty good point because they've been socially different now for so long, and we're out of the building most of last week and then when they didn't do whatever they did. It was all on the field spread out, including meeting Saturday or whatever, then we're off Sunday to Wednesday. And that yesterday was the first day back. Odds are this case is probably residual from the Stefan Gilmore Cam Newton Positive test. Brian counter the defence line from that group. Just based on the way the incubation periods work, or it's something completely different and just coincidental. But, you know, certainly more questions and answers right now. No question and then

Seven Coleman really really good they've got like woman baby yeah they've got like four backs that could that could be their starter yeah they're just really really good so they they control the clock they it's such an old school method in you know it's it's funny because in the in the stage when passing is so much more efficient they're kind of breaking that rule that passing more efficient because when you can run with that level of efficiency in that level of explosiveness I mean it just you don't Oh you don't actually really need to pass that much because they've just been doing it sufficiently my favorite maybe event of twenty nineteen so far is field yates tweeted out most pass attempts prior to first career interception history number one is Dak Prescott number three was Kyle Allen after the game yeah Richard Sherman Seen this yet Richard Sherman quote tweeted that tweet which is I'm so happy to have Richard Sherman back in our lives I talked with a couple of weeks ago but just like the thing where he may be made up that thing with Baker Mayfield I'm fine with it leveraged do whatever he wants he's back in the spotlight he's GonNa Talk unquote tweet field Yates tweets about say element Mayo hundred percent on the rich German experience back to hit a piano yeah I know this is a pro Richard Sherman podcast now I think it's really interesting what happens now in the NFC obviously the Green Bay packers won tonight there are no drew breeze comes back with the saints and they look like they didn't miss a beat obviously you know teddy bridgewater is a very good quarterback while he was aperture breezes he's wearing your mind is the pecking order in the NFC and are the niners significantly above those other two teams man that's such a good question I really like The saints still I think the fact that they were able to do what they did go five zero at bridgewater and just Kinda keep going you know keep them momentum going forward I think they are still one of the favorites I would say you know it San Francisco New Orleans one and the packers just slightly below that but with the way that Aaron Rodgers has been playing last couple of weeks there certainly scary I think their defense has taken a little bit of a step back so there may be not quite as balanced as we thought they were but yeah I mean I think those are clear top three teams there's no question about that and then you could you know make arguments for the vikings or whoever but yeah I think those are like the like the cream of the crop for share in then there's a bunch of other teams speaking of the cream of the Crop New England patriots okay so the stats from the NFL the browns I can barely get throughout the browns had turnovers on three consecutive offensive plays against the Patriots that is the first time any team has done so since week one twenty twelve only the seventh time it's been done since two thousand this is not good if you're the browns we're GonNa get to the browns and are very robust stocks downs section a little bit but this patriots team unfortunately this is not kind of the schedule will win that we thought it was going to be you know the niners get there's the browns are not as good as the panthers the browns have been kind of a disaster but this was just another performance Devin mccourty looks like maybe defensive player of the year candidate the defense he just unbelievable in Baker Mayfield after the game said that the Patriots didn't do anything confuse them they were just playing really well yeah and you you kinda wonder like isn't that the worst case scenario for a team is the they're not doing anything new there just being the crap out of you I mean it was amazing when you think about this patriots defense what comes to mind yeah I think a couple of things going to mind number one discipline that's kind of a hallmark of the belichick teams is just being really disciplined like you know obviously Cliche do your job or whatever that's the first thing versatility you know they're able to play it's
