"On the other side of the coast. Last time I went to San Francisco, I did some Zillow -looking. It was rough. I was like, wow, I don't know that I could afford that. Well, maybe you should put your money in stocks. We're watching the S &P up over 1 % today, the Nasdaq up 1 .5%. More markets starts right now. It's an insight from Bloomberg experts. This actually surprised me hearing from the Jet Blues and the Alaska Airlines of the world in the southwest that really focus on U .S. domestic travel, but it's good news for consumers. But here, but I'm sticking with my strategy. I'm only traveling if you pay me to travel. Well, prices now at their lowest for air flight fares since March 2022. All right, interesting. Kiner-Falefa's 10th-inning single helps Yankees overcome Tatis HR in 3-2 win over Padres
"An RBI single for Isaiah kinder falafel in the tenth inning puts the Yankees past the Padres and walk off fashion by the final score of three to two. Feels good. Yeah, it's as loud, so it was like, I felt like a little kid out there running around, so it was a dream come true and it was fun. DJ le mayhew provided the other yanks scoring on the day with a first sitting RBI double and a solo Homer to tie the game in the 7th. The Padres offense is highlighted by a fourth inning Fernando Tatís Jr. solo shot. Pitcher Luis severino did not factor into the decision, but allowed just two runs on one hit in 6 and two third frames for the Yankees who snapped the three game losing streak. Soto, Tatis Jr. hit long home runs, Padres beat Yankees 5-1 in series opener
"The Padres hit two two out homers to defeat the Yankees 5 to one. Randy Vasquez making his major league debut for New York had held the Padres to two hits and no runs with two out in the 5th, but he then hit Jake cronenworth and Juan Soto followed with his tenth home of the year to put San Diego up to nothing. The next inning with two out Ron marinaccio walked off the nola Fernando Tatís Jr. then blasted his 8th home run for a four zero lead. We have been in the on the borderline this last series and Stein on series like this with a W, I feel like it's really huge for us. The Padres added one more run with two out in the 9th. Joe musgrove gave up one run in 6 and a third innings for the win. Tom, New York.

"The operative question is actually, can you hear the runs? Fernando buster, and that's because Fernando tatis is back and the Padres need to score some more runs. Look, this is a this is a lineup built to outscore you. And that is in large part because they have four potential Hall of Famers. One, two, three, four, at least now that tatis is back. Here are the numbers. Right now they ain't 25th in the big leagues, averaging only 3.7 runs per game. That's nowhere close to where this team needs to be as you and I well know. And let's remind people that Fernando tatis isn't just a good hitter. He is an historically great hitter for a player his age. Through the age of 22, it's an OPS plus of one 60. The only hitters ever with a better mark through that age are Ted Williams, Mike Trout, Stan Musial and Ty Cobb. That's the whole list. That's how great he is. And he is the only player ever to hit 80 homers and steal 50 bases within his first 300 career games. He's just got to stay on the field because when he does, he can hit that baseball across the Rio Grande. I got a few, oh my gosh. Okay, I got a few things to follow up on this regard. First off, I've been watching during spring training during his minor league rehabilitation assignment. He was drawn a ton of walks. You know, and you know and I know that you don't usually see hitters make that particular jump from being an aggressive hitter to be in a patient hitter. You know what? I think he might be an exception. I think he might have that ability. What about you? I agree. I think he has literally any ability to he chooses to exercise. He is, I believe him to be one of the very best athletes. I have ever seen on a baseball field. When I watch him play, it reminds me of people like Ken griffey junior. It reminds me of like, Odell Beckham junior, if he played baseball, like he's that kind of athlete. And who knows, like with all this time that he's had off, obviously. A player has motivated as he should be in theory at this point. If you want to turn this thing around, should have been exercising all the things for which you might have found himself at a deficit. He obviously hits the living crap out of the ball, right? Tons of power. But the on base stuff is not something for which you would say it was his calling cards to get three 70 on base for his career. I wouldn't at all be surprised if this is a guy who winds up walking a hundred times a season and approaching 50 home runs. I mean, 42 homers in his most recently completed season as a shortstop. Now he's going to play the outfield. That might be the path he goes bust or a little bit more power and a lot more patience. And look, bob Melvin is not a manager who's given to hyperbole easily. And so when he said to us, you know, week and a half ago, talked about this being like a hurricane having tattoos junior coming at the opposing pitcher to start the game to be followed by Machado to be followed by soda to be followed by Bogart's. It's going to be a fascinating watch. I need to follow up on this with you though, okay? Recently in watching you as Mike Greenberg's sidekick on his radio show was established, you don't even know the four members of The Beatles. Where are you coming up with ABBA. There's no way that you know ABBA. I mean, if you don't know The Beatles, how are you gonna know ABBA? Okay, so this is how it goes. So my wife makes me watch movies. Mamma Mia! is one of these movies that she makes me watch, and I believe Mamma Mia! to be the greatest horrible movie of all time. I actually enjoy it. I find the music to be reasonably good. The Beatles stuff, man. This is a longer conversation, perhaps an entire podcast. I refuse to believe that The Beatles were as popular as older people in such that they were. When I listened to their music now, frankly, ayan, I don't need to know who these guys are. I know that they were famous. But as far as I'm concerned, this is a different lifetime. These are like Civil War generals. If I don't know it, fine too, but this is how I feel about The Beatles and this is how I feel about ABBA. Oh my God, I gotta bring Taylor and Sarah in for this. I mean, this is all organic. We didn't plan on any of this, but I gotta get their feedback on this. I mean, Sarah just came from seeing Taylor Swift, but even she knows how great The Beatles were. Sarah, I mean, he's dismissing The Beatles. What is that about? My dad is a huge Beatles fan, so he would be so disappointed, but I'm disappointed that you called Mamma Mia! a bad movie. The greatest bad movie. It's just one of the greatest movies ever. Wow. Yeah, it's right up there with, you know, Citizen Kane in a Shawshank Redemption and all the other classics. Taylor needs you to weigh in on this. Buster, you know what's better than strawberry fields forever? How about ocean avenue by yellow card? That pummels. That pummels strawberry fields and penny lane. You don't think way away is an awesome. You yourself, Taylor. I see what happens as yesterday. Baseball. That's terrible. I can't believe that two of the three others on this podcast right now are dismissing the Beatles that makes no sense to me. All right, let's talk about Clayton Kershaw.

"Mentally he's in a decent place, although it is interesting, given the amount of money that's been given out to athletes, you thought perhaps they would extend a large cash starved person some olive branch with money all over it. They didn't do that yet. He's as good a power hitter as there is in the game. And home run derbies aside, which he obviously owns as you like to say, that's his event. He's as good a power hitter as there is in baseball. You know, he has been since his rookie year. And what we're shadow and judge last year, what judge did? Maybe Alonso breaks a record this year. You know, he said the same thing that Max Scherzer said about dictating pace. He believes he dictates the pace now of every at bat. He believes that by not chasing like he once did, he's in charge. So if you take a guy that has all that ability, put him in the batter's box and allow him to feel like I own this. I'm in charge. It's not going to be dictated by anybody else. Use our narrow this strike zone and every ball that's in that zone, he's smashing and he's smashing them all over the field and last night, again, over the left field wall. So you've got an incredibly confident guy who's in really good shape who is improved his ability to be selective at the place. It's a very great combination for the mets and a lousy combination for opposing pitchers. You know, we spent a lot of last year talking about Aaron judge bet on himself. We haven't really talked about how Pete Alonso has bet on himself. We know that Steve Cohen, the mets owner, has a lot of money. We know that Pete's in a position where he's beginning to near free agency. And they couldn't strike a deal in spring training. He doesn't have a long-term contract. Obviously there was a gap between what Pete wanted and what the mets were offering. And here's Pete backing it up, Carl. Yeah. Yeah, look, he's in it. It's an interesting one. Only because buster that the elephant in every major league Clubhouse is front office room is going to be Shohei Ohtani. And I'm not sure. I have no conversations with anybody to wonder if perhaps they look at Pete as somebody who may eventually be a designated hitter, even though he's become a very good first baseman. And if you're saying that Steve Cohen's in a position to decide between ohtani and Alonzo, maybe that's why there hasn't been any significant enough offer to make Pete Alonso say, I don't need a bed on myself. I just won because of this contract I've been offered. That's all speculation, but for sure, you would think that the mets would be a team that's interested in Shohei Ohtani and perhaps Alonso's the guy that would be most impacted by that. Right. And whatever, you know, whatever term deal he gets, part of that deal, the team will be betting whether it's the mets or another team that some of those years are going to be as a DH. And as you know, it's been harder for those guys. The DH first basement to get as big a contracts as with other as at other positions. So that'll be one to watch with Pete's off to an absolutely a great start. Any early thoughts in the Giants because for me, it's it has to be frustrating if you're in the Giants front office because you essentially wanted tractions on two items. One, you wanted to start player. I thought it water Perez, you know, our colleague framed it best last year when he said, whose Jersey among the Giants players is a little kid buying. They clearly need that type of star. They went for it in the off season, going after Eric judge, going after Carla's Correa, landing neither. And the other thing we kept on hearing from Gabe kapler over and over and over again last year, look, we have to improve our defense. And in the infield, that hasn't happened. Those are two items that the Giants had on their to do list last year. They couldn't get it done. Yeah. Larry bear, who runs the Giants cave into our booth last year and said, this is a stars game. He acknowledged that this is a superstar game. San Francisco knows it better than anybody as they had the biggest superstar for many years in Barry Bonds and baseball. And they went out and tried to get him and didn't get them. So they failed that way. And I know they'll spin it that we spent a lot of money. I think they gave 5 guys each 25 million or more. I mean, there's ways that they can suggest we try to upgrade the team. But if stars and superstars were your bar, you didn't reach it. Secondly, the Giants, to me, buster remind me a lot of the Red Sox in the division they play in. They're not as good as the teams at the top. They don't have they don't have the superstar players, they'll grind the hell out of every at bat, they'll fight every game they play hard, but if you just were being honest with yourself and looked at the skill level, they are not close to the Dodgers, they are not close to the Padres. The Red Sox are not really close to the Blue Jays to the Yankees. So the race. They're not. Doesn't mean that they can't win games. Doesn't mean that they can't fight for a playoff spot if things go well. Giants have had some injuries to some of their bats that they acquired. They haven't been playing yet this year. That's part of it. But that's where I am on the Giants.

"The podcast. After that news came down, the mets played the Giants and Pete Alonso had himself a night not going and Pete drives one deep left field. Back goes way near the wall and it's out of here. He the Alonso in the line drive two run Homer number 9 for Alonso to put the mets up to nothing. Swinging a ground ball towards shortstop Crawford can't get there at rolls into left center field. Kinda scores here comes Lindor. The throw is on its way to the plate. It's up to third base line and it gets away. Alonso goes to second hits a two run single for Pete Alonso and the mets out on two more. It's 8 to four New York in the 7th. And they would win 9 to four. The mets have won 7 of 8, including 6 of the first 7 on their ten game West Coast trip. Pete Alonso, 19 RBI in his first 20 games. You hate to see this in the angels lost to the Yankees on Thursday, Logan a hobby. We've talked about with Paul McKee's had to come out of the game intense left shoulder pain after having a swing. His quote to reporters after the game I felt it popped, come out the back and will be reevaluated the next couple of days. Let's hope it's nothing serious. Yeah, it looks like a shoulder subluxation to me, having seen that in the past and for hitters, that can be a really dicey situation. The Dodgers and the cubs played in Wrigley Field yesterday, Mookie betts started at shortstop for the Dodgers. This is what happened at the bottom of the 8th. There's a chopper. Bench has it. Steps on the back throws the first double play. Oh my. Mookie betts his first play at shortstop in ten years takes a ground ball.

Those calls, of course, from pirates, television, radio networks, and I love after. It was pretty funny if you found that video, although as I described it right, then maybe it didn't. It sounded pirates hang on to win this game over Cincinnati four to three. Was George Reeves's Death a Suicide?
"The George Reeves shall must have been the top one of the top 5 shows. One of the first 5 shows we did when I got to LA to do mysteries and scandals. And I knew some I knew some stories about George Reese, but man, so much more light was shed on these people. And I remember the names in these stories so well, he had a fiance named lenore lemon. And they went out to dinner with their friend Robert condon. And then the three of them went back to Reeves and Lennon's home in Benedict canyon. And just so you guys understand who don't live in this area, Benedict canyon is such a beautiful area. You go up the hill in the valley that separates Hollywood from the San Fernando valley, and these homes are gorgeous. And the view from these homes is spectacular. So they go back to their place on Benedict canyon, and after George goes to bed, lenore lemon decides to host an impromptu party in their living room with condon and the neighbors William bliss and Carol van ronkel. And Reese wakes up by all the goddamn noise they're making. You know, he's not in the mood to hear this kind of bullshit. You know what you're a celebrity and you're working in the business and things aren't going right. And you know you got people responding off you. You can't fucking stand to hear them in the other room laughing and whooping it up when all you're doing is laying your head on your pillow worried and concerned about what this fucking business is doing to you. And that's what was happening with George Reese. So he gets woken up by the stupid drunken noise. He comes downstairs to tell him to shut the hell up. Then he's calmed down. He spends some time with them. He had a drink. He said, calm down, George is such a stick in the mud. How the fuck can cognac. He has the drink. He's calmed down. And he goes back to his room. And not too long after that, the guests hear a gunshot coming from his room. So bliss runs up to stairs to the room, they find Reeves body naked, he's laying on the bed, and there's a gunshot wound to his temple. And as a pistol on the floor, and it looked like it fell out of his hand. Now even though George Reeves death was ruled a suicide, there's some conflicting stories that began to come out in the press, likely because of the fact that the only witness had been drunk at the time. And some news outlets claim that lenore lemon was with reason the bedroom when he shot himself and that she came downstairs and told her guests tell him I was down

Chargers' Derwin James, Joey Bosa Have 'Warrior' Performances Against Chiefs
"Some of the things that happened while we were watching this game and I remember seeing this, it was like, I think this was before the half. They show Derwin James running to the locker room and it was like, well, wait a minute. The defense is still out there. Yeah, yeah. Durham, where are you going? I didn't see this. I didn't know he disappeared. I didn't see it. Oh yeah, scared me. The telecast, they put it, it was like they highlighted it and then Tony Romo was like, oh yeah, and derwent headed back to the locker room. He was like, he was full spray. He's like, let's get this x-ray done and get out of here. Well, yeah, whatever it was. I mean, at the time, we didn't know. He wasn't limping. He wasn't carted off. It was like he was just going. So it was like, weird, like the defense is out there. What's going on? Come to find out after Fernando Ramirez talked to Joey Bosa, apparently Joey Bosa said that Derwin James, his shoulder dislocated. And so he ran to the locker room to get his shoulder popped back in, and it made it just seemed like nothing because he was pretty much back out there like immediately. So the Brandon still he said that both of those guys Joey Bosa, who was obviously playing injured, we knew that it would be might not have played on Sunday, but he did play through the pain, played amazingly as did Derwin James. And then the big long who didn't have any chance anyway But so that means that all the main contenders are still in the race and the favorite is From the brad cox barn burning and bishen winter three in a row. she is making her stakes debut. She's gone through conditions. One at ellis park last time out. She got a pretty good trip in that race. Early pays very very slow. And i think the things will be a lot more honest than here. I think she'll be in a stocking position as opposed to being right on the lead in this race. My topic is towards the outside and and now with all the scratches. I'm not as worried being stuck out. Wide nets the eleven. Mrs cloth for trainer brendon. Walsh godolphin broke the main here in indiana grant and barry impressive fashion. I loved her in that race helps park. I was watching that day. And she impressed me once again Just engulfing the leaders Inside the final furlong marker and Yeah she's she's got. I think a credible upside in this race now with the scratches though that some of the speed horses strat and so of philly. That i wasn't gonna be that high on and the race now might have to take another look at is the seven who are still charging maria for asmussen She lost a flip in last time. Won't four thousand came back to win the virginia and that from that race on august the seventh so and that was a very fast paced and they went to really fast fractions and It's race the others still speed. But now it's not that the i thought it was going to be a very very fast pace now. Some of the scratches. I think she's now back in the picture so She might make my top three. Mrs claus is still going to be my top choice. But i would throw in still charging maria. Take a look at her She's she's she's got some ability as well and then nothing against burning ambition. But i think she's gonna i think she's going to be the favorite still in this race Though everything kinda compresses a little bit with all the the scratches even though they're a bunch of longshots well a and you bring up still charging maria not only was flippant in that That dueling ground oaks preview but so was adventuring Who was third behind. Flip and flippant The goes off and wins at at colonial and venturing wins the dueling ground oaks so That race has been productive. And we did. Have steve asmussen on monday. Let's talk about the caesar's bill This is the three year old boys. The act couple scratches spach the one and five and i think it changes the race. That quite a bit because nikki to shoes. I was gonna be the front runner in this race. I think it changes the dynamics of this race. I think quite quite a bit and so royal prince. I think we'll we'll have to you know talking tactics like like she you know. She almost overcame a face to win. That ellis park Building grounds derby preview on august seven. she has a one since april and he said there's no doubt about how that fever legit horse and there's a couple in here that i think we might have to. I like maybe a tiny bit more One of which is The woodbine invader the sixers dynamite. Back into barney keith. Disarm oh after going north of the border at woodbine. And i like to watch the races From woodbine quite a bit. It's kind of like my new little hobby if you will and that was pretty darn strong field august fourteenth. Let me tell you So dynamite off of that race and is going to be a long look for me. And then we got orders coming up from gulfstream park. Perfect silent cats With luca pucci board Winner on a sloppy track but has done well on the turf as well and there's not a whole lot early speed in this one you know. Granted it was a very slowly basic austrian park last time out and they change tactics at least they. They showed that there they can take and adapt to whatever the happens there. But i think itemize might be on the lead in here and that's going to be interesting And probably not. Probably he's gonna be my pick in the caesar's steaks and race number ten well Even though even though he's thirty two one at his coming out of non winners of two claiming event. I'm hard pressed not to mention on the second day of russia. That show far is in this race. You can't make it up no matter what happens in this sport There is The i mean. Of course that was was absolutely made to run on Thought either yum kipper or or russia. so don't blow it on show far by the he looks up against it but It it made me laugh Circles circles city closes out the pick. Five and boy. this is a little murky We got some first-time starters and maidens and you know one of those two year old races. I mean moen's from. Mike lower two to one and and makes perfect sense Classic max from duran five to to Do we keep it simple or is there some horses to worry about an ear sources. Don't worry about it here. i'll tell you one that When immediately into my stable man. I tweeted it out as well It's ten horse. What now daryl garcia third career star. I don't know what happened. But the light went on and it went on With a with a ninety volt lightbulb if you will Not whatnot daryl. Visually impressive in that win on september. Two first and one very willingly and very easily and i probably more than the the length and a quarter Would finishing margin does show. So i just think that he's coming into this race on Just getting better and better knowing the rail and if he doesn't break and even if he does break well he could be put in tight pretty quick. And that's what that's what happened to him last time on in a field of five. We're gonna sex you know. He was in a stalking position. And then got tight and the check and and that loss position and and and was defeated as a big favourite and classic max Finished second in that race but got the cube because he kinda came over moment so yes. There was some interference there but in a bigger field. It doesn't you don't need interference to get shuffled as well So moen's needs a great break into begets it. Then you can get off the and scientists tiny maybe you know Dictate things but there's gonna be a lot of speed horses in this race. They're gonna go out. You know like that and those two year old races. So i don't know For me it's what now. Darrell as my bright idea in that race and talented is in another top spot on the rail.

Pretty much a five generation out cross and back produced macy You know who was Who is a a great team winner but by brian. Brian how howard and then miss macy's sewage bet on the song and got map there the case where a man had the hybrid vigor part in her and then another generation and then she tong but just assigned something your listeners. Don't want to go and put pedigree they can take a look at that and When you mentioned. I think we're right when you when you mentioned Was miss macy's sue Who'd you say bread with the redness. Fine how how. It used to be tarred manager and was originally and assistant to john. Rude so you know john Was the big leeann. Rats have played a big party. John's mating greater and jobs career. And so the mayor yada yada who's been brought to by three she To towel we was bred by. Kate great above and tweak and hair yada yada had this intense inbreeding. To by the power and brian howard. Course you can show the rink going from brian. How did john narrowed to leeann rasmusen. I i tweeted and i called it The the horse you missed over the weekend Not this time by the name of ain't life grand that kelly von hemel sent out to A win in the richard rocky memorial stretched out this not this time and this is an iowa bread and this is not just a nice iowa bread this. That's good yeah Abby out bog loop is is a client of ours and we actually been demanding for not this time as well so You know there are these the Really excited with their young stallions. It's like the wind. Chill to be with the gunrunner when chilton three jimmy and so I think You know what we'll find. Is i know that all but wants to buy some phillies. You're in philly. September that will potentially suit not this time and it's something we've been working on with them For them this week actually so You know i. I think you're gonna find that they're gonna start the branch and get more involved in the breeding side the obvious for member except you know by these colts and racing them. I have interesting scene with their philly. Of course they had the phillies from the beginning. The aforementioned to who became their you know.

"Waiting. Big list starting to pile up forgotten runner. This is tired of the weekend. And so he. And i kind of went through a scenario of you know you know. These are running in these states races to we can. What if one wins grade one. Would that translate. Spent a second one grade one one. Would that happen. And we kind of unofficially discussed the milky. And then i said to him. Well listen put me down on the waiting list. And he said you're in. I got on the rating friday The grade one winner on Over the weekend and of course. I called chuck up on Day to tell him. I got the teeth having. He was elated Because you know For him to be excited about this is one thing but could be able to get into the horse now outed outside it. One thing that that people mayor. I don't know if they listened To the interviews or or maybe read In the aftermath and dave. Granik spy's steve aspirin. And he said it with me The other day on monday even before the just just off the strength of echo zulu. He said he absolutely wanted to be at the helm of gunrunners. First grade one winner and that. That's a real insight frankly to the competitive spirit and mind of of steve asmussen And and then. In retrospect as i watched Frankly as i watch got night. You know the expanding. The lead down the stretch in the hopeful monday i said to myself. Well you know y- blue that it wouldn't have mattered because when it came to my multi tickets i i I didn't use a tone but I i absolutely to myself unbelievable. He's going to. He's going to get another one right here and i should have been. I know it's esoteric from handicapping standpoint. But it should have entered into the thinking. Yeah i mean Yea should've Things i to twenty twenty but You know chambi fans gunrunner. But of course you know. He'd been raised in partnership with the wind. Chill so Wind chill Plays a big part in the at least success story down free owning both But g one winners and that other saratoga tree winner who was out of the tap their gun and of course they are they had captured and so now they got another astounding coming up and they bred gonna. He's a third generation home-bred From wind chill they brought echo zula and You know it's been sense that they were going to go heavy into guy and asked missing was going to be the beneficiary of those because as trainer so You know they've gotta be app for a belated and you know they have to have stallion turn out like tablets and then if you can have you know if you can predict that this Success is have to continue to go and that will be something back to come up with two major stallions fat. It it was. It was at the time as as gunrunner was was wrapping up. His you know his career i. It was to me Am i think i i. I think ron winchell was on with us and we talked about the you know An embarrassment of riches to to have to have to you and two distinct kinds of of stallions to And you know it's funny when you look at these to talk talk about these pedigrees for a second said because the broodmare sire of these two is notable Echo zulu lecco echo is is by menefee and simple surprise by cowboy cow. We're not exactly talking You know sparkling sparkling broodmare sire. The type names When when when you think cowboy cal and menefee yeah. I think that that could be true. But you know taking the female families within side because obviously when you look at the benefit mayor. She'd already produced the grade. One winner eco town as well as the. Gt j. boys that go but side Here's the interesting thing about it And i'm glad you brought up this point. Gunrunner is the son a candy ryan candy. Reid was a an argentine bred. Horse who came here obviously but it sounds accords pledged. John was instrumental in making stallion sub for ten thousand dollars. One of the things that helped candy wide was his absolute success ratio which formed campfire nares. As a matter of fact. I just look. There are forty seven undistracted stakes winners by candy. Reid have storm cat in the pedigree. Many of them To broodmare sire but they don't have to be a lot of them are captain candyman can't for example is by storm creek horse like Menefee and And cowboy cow. You know outta grade fire but captain candy man. I mean Kept he came to me. And ken was g winner. Bread on nick candy ride would storm cat ago. Gunrunner himself but on this nick because he's candy right out of a giant's causeway maher that storm camp right now. One of the things that readers like do is they like to repeat that breathing that female around that work with that stein. They're bring it in again. So that means duplication that storm cat so in both these cases significant parts cowboy cowboys by giant's causeway by menefee is by harlan by storm. Cat to gunrunner now is utilized that same nick that made his fire so successful. And when you do that with gunrunner because he's already out of the storm cat. Land your duplicating storm so what you have in both of these horses duplication of storm and in and as well as it being that candy. Reid storm cat. Nick show Let me point out to you that another great one winner this weekend heiner's by twirling. Candy approve incentive candy. Ride it rains nurses out of a giants clog whitman. Thorne against that can't be ride. Storms head nick right. Let's work here as one element of these pedigrees. She families inside of course but It's one of the things that was just so phenomenal with candy. Reid himself his own success and You know even when the broodmare. I is this storm catch lines down. So let's take a stallion for example like mastery. Take another young candy. Where i would your this year right. Mastery is clayborn. He's by candy. Right out of an ultra seconds. Dan steady is by storm tests. Show what we found is can he rides really when this storm sat in the female mariners pedigree and it doesn't necessarily have to be in that fire line at their. It can be within pedigree to says masquerades as jampel so Fitness something that both teams g one winners are against sandy reid with storm cat. The nats was son gunrunner. Who already has is a product of candy. Reid storm cat. And that's why you have. The duplication of storms can't in good nice and echo zoo. The state this is this is exactly you know the theme that we that we hit on you know depending on depending on the line in the arena just over and over again It's it's just amazing. I pointed this out last week to you when we were talking about. Mcqueen's music stands at going to mcrae's music. Is the sunday distorted humor. This is great. Nick distorted humor with. At well you know. We pointed out then mclean's first crop winner and at first crop. Classic winner crossed computing was spread on that netscape was out of an. At and t. Lying there we noted that jackie's warrior is g one winner this year top springer and the country is also out of an atm. Do i admire and accurate. You and i had this conversation by the way. I just noticed in. One of the races may didn't want the philly that ran second degree sadler with the mccranie music out of another adhd man. Why mayor for Forget her name but she was back on this again. Great tablet but So when you when you actually planning pedigrees you're looking at yes. You look at the quality of the female family. You're looking at The physical match. You're listening obviously to try to upgrade your man You also looking at elements in pedigrees. Sometimes stallions sometimes the question of dying that worked with particular sound too. And i bring up a you brought it up but i'm expanding on it. the candy reid normally argentine or south america. Standings do not succeed in this country. Like candy. Reid found seen and that was storm cat. He's also found another team with abnd what happened with him was he happened to be here at the right time when storm cats and the ap and they were in the boomer population and whatever they brought physically genetically to the pedigree's they work with candy. Right really well and now. We're finding the second generation of this. We're finding it's working with the sons we've seen twirling candy with Just gave you the grade. One winner pinehurst. Batori candy has others as well and Now seeing with gunrunner run so you know it's something that as breeding season approaches You know people need to look at whenever you want to call it next crosses cirque manchester's nor that is to proceed at your pal. Let me let me counter counterweight. That is said with with something. And and i didn't. I didn't let you know that i was going to bring this up but given that I talked to graham ocean about Princess quite a bit actually The other day was that yesterday. I can't remember. I can't remember if that was was grandma yesterday. i think he was. Yes because I couldn't get to monday at princess. Grace came up and and i. I've talked about the del. Mar derby result None above the law Becoming a prominent graded stakes winner of for caricom anti and then the next day here was graham and we talked about princess grace. Who's on a a really nice lewinsky in ear. And you know he's he's what ten thousand care kawhi at gains way and know there's one of those pedigrees that has got all kinds of interesting elements including of course a presence sunday silence as the broodmare sire Bernstein as his own sire. So it's it's a something of a of an offbeat you know off brand pedigree as it were and yet The there's some you can see. There's some ruminations going on regarding charakata. He's getting he's getting good horses but let me find something about the princess grace pedigree as relates to. What you just spoke about with the gun runner graded stakes winners. We pointed out that gunrunner himself is the product. Candy reid and storm chat right and then breeders red storm cat line. We're back to gun runner. He get gun. I and you'll well you look at the pedigree of character Princess grace china. Contact is is bernstein. 'cause they stormed out of a sunday silence there. Well john and susan more brad princess grace. They better never sunday. Silence near back shower contact and that's product. It's been since great again but three by three to sunday salad. It's exactly the same theories. In these gunrunner states winners leading of mayor back the darien. that was how that styling himself was created show. Ponta was created by sending sunday silence. Man the burn sti. Now they're sending a sunday. Salvaged line there to carry parenti knowing exactly how he himself was bread. And isn't that interesting that this princess grace now Very similar in its own way in structure to the pedigrees have a good night and echo. Zula said i'm. I'm not sure if the term that's not that's not a hybrid vigor Approach is that is that miss. what would what. What are we talking about that. Hybrid vigor approaches. You take an intensely inbred mayor say say but princeton's greats yourself it three by treat assembly sirens. She's in right and then you breed her to a stallion. That has no inbreeding create. I got bigger. You breathe course to an outcrop source and that's the hybrid vigor. That my good friend. Leon rats up quite a bit as well so it's exposing its exposing a inbred To a to a wide array there. If if you if you want to If you want to look at a great example of that and it's amazing that we happen to have done For baugh family..

"If you take office in the beginning of twenty twenty two what needs to be done to make the city safer first thing that i would do is i would look at quality of life issues. I would look at bail reform. I would look at house. How recruits are being trained in what they're being taught in the academy and who is leading that department. I would add thousands more cops to the police force. I believe that we should have minimally two cops in each subway station. Twenty four hours seven days a week because that is an area that people that are leaving work at night that leaving the entertainment business the clubs the restaurants the theatre district. They use our subways and would there are no cops visible in his in the subways. It gets pretty dangerous. It could get scary dangerous right. I would make sure that our children's fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen like myself. If i didn't have a family that adopted me and gave me a job at fourteen. God knows what would what would. I have been doing out in the streets so i would encourage every small business to hire a kid from their community and let them work in their data in their carpet store india restaurant i would encourage corporate america to come back to their offices in higher kids after school. A lot of these kids come out of school. They have one parent and they're out in the street while the parent is working. Is that something you would just sort of be a convener as mayor to bring the small businesses to the table to the big corporations or is that a city program. Are you incentivizing. Those things are funding them. I had his work. I see the way we would wanna give amazon. Three billion dollars to to come to new york en- produced twenty five thousand jobs. I would take twenty five thousand new businesses that come to new york city and say you know what we're going to give you the tax breaks. She will give corporate america. Corporate america doesn't need it. Small businesses needed. I know because. I am one. And i know because i would hire these kids. So it's about the mayor taking the leadership and reaching out when the map of the phone calls everyone answers out for you can enter a dialogue and create a partnership a private public partnership with the business leaders small medium and large in the city. We can help kids stay off the streets and those are the kids that are really committing mischief south there and are going to jail for minor things because they have too much free time on their hands mbeki policing per second you say expanding lease floors more more police officers in subway stations. You are you someone who thinks the police force sort of in communities needs to be more assertive more aggressive right now. It sounds like you want to confirm that. You think you know the the police department needs to be you know maybe harkening back more towards Before was mayor and started to sort of. Hold the reins back now. I believe that the police department needs to engage the community more. We need the cop on the beat. The cop knows if you lived in if you open harlem and you became a police officer. It doesn't matter where you live. I would want you to police harlem because you know the community you know the people you know the kids you know the gangs using Level of respect that exists when you police community that you will open third. Is there a problem with them. How high a percentage of the police force stan lives outside. The five boroughs is out a concern for you. Not at all in fact. They can't afford to live in new york city so it doesn't matter where they live. It matters where they came from it matters what ethnic background they have..

"Mayoral race. He, you know candidate Matteo. Joe Bartlett. Fernando Matteo. Yeah, Fernando Mateo. What do you know about him? It seems like you used to be head of the taxi Federation. And then since we don't have cams that much anymore in this city you now represented Will dig owners. Yeah, a little whacked. Pretty good. Admit, what's that A little wacky, though, right? He's he's one of these, You know, professional protesters, I think It seems just wacky on debate or TV is like the Republican Andrew Yang. Colorful guy. Little little too gimmicky s so he's running against Curtis Lee. Well, we're up for Curtis Lee Curtis would be much better. He's not for someone. What he's not working. Curtis is like George Shultz compared the Matteo. He's about what Curtis? I would I would trust over Metin. But for some reason, General Flynn has just endorsed Matteo in the last hour. What? General Flynn? I didn't even know what's going on here in this mayoral race. So it's very important. You know, you get the right Republican candidate because Democrats have, like a 5 to 1 advantage voting wise, but they're still hey, slicked back. Republicans have won five of the last seven mayoral election. So it is it is possible. We'll get Curtis on the show tomorrow. On what? We'll ask him about this stuff. Anyway. Let's take some calls. Let's go to Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing? Good morning, Mark. God, I'm glad you're back on the air. And I hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend party and and everything Mark, this guy Eric Adams and Andrew Yang. Every yang just sounds like a jerk. You look on the local channel. He's running all these political legs. He's got the stupid policies. He's going nowhere. But this Eric Adams, I couldn't want trust him. As far as I could spit because first off, he goes to kiss shopping's rang. I know In some instances, you've got to do that. But if he's trying to Bring this city back from the hell hold that become now. I wouldn't if I was a political advisor, which I would never be. Tell him to kiss shop tins ring he we met. We gotta remember Barack Obama was the king off the fancy speech in of the mealy mouth and look what he brought us. He ruined the country and ultimately he bought is this Ray? Okay, But wait, Vincent. Let's say you don't like Eric Adams on the Democratic side. Who would you pick? None of them? None of you. Let's say you had to pick somebody. Who would you pick? Wow. All right. I guess I would say we go Michael Goodwin. And you said that you gotta hope. That he means what he says about cleaning up the city. But before rock, Obama said, a lot of nice things look what he did. So I don't know Mark. I mean, courteously with my guy and It's all like it sat on trust Adam's Because first off I met him at the D A's office One time he came off to me like a jerk. And I don't trust him. I think this is a lot of Bs did just all speed to get the liberals on his side. Mark, Thanks for coming. Talent. Thanks. Gotta admit Adam's and millions was very, very nice guy in real life. Hey, was in the police department. NYPD questionable career there. I know he's a value from what I'm told he was about to go to a departmental trial. The accusations with things like profiteering off organization there, maybe even I've heard some people there say he might have been selling appointments or taking money in exchange for I don't know if that's true, but we don't want that to get out, actually, because if we're to that gets out Every big donor will suddenly love this guy. That's why they like the blahs everything. He a zoo. One big donor said about the blood. He's like a taxicab. You can hire him when you need him. So you can you can get whatever you want out of guys like that. Just write the check, so we don't want that word to get out. Let's go to Andy and South Meadow. Andy, how you doing? Well, it's actually fresh meadows. Good morning, Mark before I get to the point, my point about the Democrat debate, the Republican debate will actually be tomorrow night on Pix 11. All right. So what about the Democrats earlier? Um now I know tonight, Child seven. For the second hour, they will be streaming the debate live on ABC seven. And why'd that ord? But also if you want to look into it, but your listeners there's another alternative. You can go on toe won't cast that, or g'kar and digital channels. 7.2 is there. All right. You do understand and reality. People are going to go toe ABC dot org's This that channel 7.2. Most people are gonna be watching something else at eight o'clock, so it's just important for the candidate to remember. Get everything important done between seven and eight. That's where it's gonna happen. That's where most people will see. It s Oh, there is a second. What? Although you'll be able to go on YouTube or anywhere else and always watch it second or any time you want Actually. Well, if you're on hold, I'm sorry. We don't get that with a lot of calls here. We'll get to you, uh, had a little later, but we got Monica Crowley. Next. We'll talk to her about this mayor all race about This crazy Joe Biden about China and the hacking and all this will get to all of this. Coming up.

"Things what you think of as deeply anti patriotic. It is patriotism if you ask those guys what they were doing storming the capital. So we're we're not overthrowing. The government where the patriots were defending the. Yeah out right if you think if you think that the election really was stolen this is this. Is your last moment to protectorate. So that's kind of. I can understand where that's coming from but it doesn't make it right obviously right but i think we have to. Do we have to all take a little bit of time to understand why people do what they do at ended in the conditions that got them there and see what can we do to to address them at this hard like. I feel like we're scrolling. Now can we. Can we click on the. Let's go to the tennis tab with tennessee. No because i i do feel like an and i should point out. We we connected a. You're you're a tennis fan so we connected over. Tell you begin with. But i i've been reading your mail bag for twenty years at least twenty which is kind of amazing. Yeah in college to read it and once in a while in a question and and probably share with my. Family's i get in the mail bag so i was just tickled right when to see that you mentioned The social media a social dilemma. In in your feet. So i i thought it was terrific. I were dating ourselves but when you started reading the mail bag and we did not have this issue we We did not layers. Leave the court and the first thing they get after shaking hands was no grab this little device out of their bag. I think obviously social media penetrates all of our lives and Again we're talking about electricity Point but i do think. Tennis has a really unique relationship with social media for a variety of reasons A i guess. Let's let's sort of start there. I mean what. What have you noticed. tech tennis interacted with intersection with social. Media's how would you characterize out. I think the main thing i wanted to say is that in general top. Tennis flippers are quite outstanding role models. In general for youth they generally do a good job on social media. I feel like there's just a we couldn't ask for much more right just in terms of how they how they act how they conduct themselves. How they you know when they destroy the kinds of speeches they give. They do a really good job. There and several have been very vocal also especially now Asaka serena williams andy murray. They've done a fantastic job. Like rafa roger. I think have all done a lot..

"Scroll is another one of these things that hacks are stopping cues and so we we tend to keep scrolling until something pops up which is why you'll find so many long scroll web pages in very few that say next go here because the minute you introduce a decision point in a moment for the mind to stop and and be like. What am i doing here a lot of times. You close a pitch right because it's not what you actually intended to do. 'em man it's we think addiction. We used to think of addiction in terms of drugs and alcohol. This is maybe the same neuro chemistry but it is absolutely the same neuro chemistry. And so that's what we have to think about and the other thing in two points that are really important just on this topic of what would be the right kind of stuff to build. A one is focused on shirt truth. Which you talked about and the second thing is re humanisation right we have. We have gotten to this point where the two sides really do often see each other in the whole side like all one hundred million millions and millions of people are generalized to being dehumanized. Just terrible people and actually if we get together and we actually do something together with someone with opposing political viewpoints and we don't know that yet and we just have a meal with them. We do a lot better right so there is something about. How do we do that successfully. How do we understand. Both sides are fighting for what they believe deeply to be true. Even the people who are at this insurrection which is crazy right but so so a lot of blame goes on information environment and what happens if people get radicalized by terrible information environments and we have systems that encourage terrible information environment. So this is what we have to. We have to really focus on that part. Of course we have to take action. When people do an insurrection. This is inexcusable. So of course we have to take action but different forms of these problems will keep coming up. There will be new people to d platform right. New problems will keep coming up unless we address the root. What is generating all of these problems and part of that recognition. I mean not to sound sappy is that realization has a lot to do with understanding the conditions. Why does someone do what they do. And people all want desperately right to be loved to be recognized to be heard and to be part of something bigger and if they find information that guides them to a bigger thing that that aligns with candidate worldview or becomes their worldview. They're going to do it as people are quick. Desperate for that stuff. But i i don't know if this is a source of of hope or hopelessness. I was struck. A actually just happened to be in dc last wednesday when this was was taking place and i was really struck. You heard senator after senator. You weren't so many people said that this was deeply anti patriotic act in holly and crews oriented as an an an and the actual marauders were there because they consider themselves patriots. So it wasn't -solutely what the justice broken truth. It was that these concepts mean completely different..

"It's all private. You can't find the data so it's quite difficult to to take action. But i feel like we do this in the law all the time right where there are perfect solution and there are perfect places to plant our flag. There's going to be a slippery slope and there's gonna be some double standards and what about but it's something i mean it's you know it's at least we've Taken a stay on that. It may not be one hundred percent consisted. It may open it up the slippery slope arguments but at least it's action yes. I think it's tricky. Of course barring the political environment as a whole which makes it very hard to pass anything until it literates ignore that for a moment and just talk about what might even work. i think what's also tricky use. You end up talking a lot about antitrust regulation but if you're a too simplistic about it. I'm not saying people are. I'm seeing a lot of the public. Perception right. so companies are too big. Let's break them up. But if they continue to operate on the same model the same business model right and the same idea virality rules everything what you're going to get a bunch of smaller companies. That actually compete more on that same model and you could argue. That is actually a worse outcome right. So i think there's a lot of it's hard to find the regulation that actually gets to the heart of these problems and i would say A lot of that ends up if you're talking in the realm of the virality in the realm of the business model in the realm of content generation adding some friction and some thoughtfulness and some trust and integrity to the system and the information in it. Then you're on the right track other tracks can can end up being red herrings and this is why policy is really really hard in the space. Look we'll get the tennis after this. But i still hung up. I mean it seems to.

"Of its emphasis on virality and because of the business model and the way they make money so that leads to a sense of inevitable tilt is tilted a little bit more towards outrage and say the sensationalism and formative acts right. And so this idea of doing something crazy recording yourself doing it when you turn that into an insurrection level moment than that makes the stage that much more more dangerous so this is sort of where the the platforms tend to drive people. And that's i think the key point if if the platforms drive people to the margins towards the extremes right nobody wanted middle content and the the algorithms are set so pushed. To what extent do we feel like. Social media is complicit in the events of the last week i think it's a significant Portion of the conditions that are set conditions are complicated when when something like this emerges of of course there are so many different conditions that are in plain But there is no doubt that social media plays a critical role in this kind of moment because it allows so take the example. Right in this case we have a specific example of a president who is now been d platform. But even if you remove the actor who is spreading the information all of the training that happened to all of the minds inside the system remains and this is sort of the key point. That somehow is so often forgotten right the the platforms take this approach of. Hey don't worry we've got fact checkers find stuff and we will take it down dory. We'll take it down. But by the time taken down most of the time that content has already been viewed by millions of people now. What about the training process that stunned there and when you combine that with the fact that research shows that you when we form an opinion we don't quickly change out of it so that first opinion that we form about a particular topic a sticks it sticks really well and so we have.

We have tournament in delray as we track. This there is a final about to be played we have arena salamanca. Continuing her hot streak. Going winning in abu dhabi we do also however have another crazy crazy week in the world seems a little off tone and tone deaf to talk match results and the tennis chatter given the fragility of democracy at least here in the us. So i thought we'd do something different We're gonna talk about social media with a tennis connection. But this is a broad conversation about social media with our guest randy fernando. He's the co founder and executive director of the center for humane technology. You may well have remembered him. His center and randy himself speaking Elegantly in the social dilemma. The netflix blockbuster that came out a few months ago ran is also a tennis fan. He reached out After we referenced social dilemma in a column we had a very nice Back and forth. So i invited him to come on. I thought he would be inappropriate. Guest this week When social media figure so prominently in the news when a president has been deployed formed which For many candidly self included was well deserved for gross abuses We talk some tennis to social. Media obviously is a big A big factor in tennis today generally a force of good way to corral and rain in the sprawling sport. that doesn't really have a center. The travels the world. Social media also has a Less appealing side in tennis players have been trolled. We've talked with a number of players. Madison keys most prominently about The problem of trolls and abusive behavior even threats that come on social media so This is a a sprawling wide ranging conversation about social media how it impacts all of us and also How it impacts tennis so without further ado here is Terrific insightful conversation with With randy. I thought we start with a social dilemma. Which really was the netflix's fair that punch through as we say a lot of programming we never get to. This was the opposite. everyone was talking about. How did you had you experienced still had experienced the aftermath. I think What happened with this film. The reason it took off so much is that it's talking about an issue that everyone resonates with everyone in this audience. Anyone who has netflix definitely resonates with this issue. And unlike many other very important issues in the world this one. Because there's such a direct experience that you encounter every single day and you watch watching you look around the people around your influence. Your kids are impacted by it and now the whole political spirits impacted by it. Makes you very interested in the topic and so right now. We estimate something like one hundred million people have seen. This film was.
