Supreme Court Strikes Down New York COVID Restrictions
"The new Supreme Court has spoken, and it is a much different message as it relates to Covad restrictions from the government. 93 w A. B C. It's the Mark and Rob. Show him Rob Mok is out Abdul in for Mok. And obviously, this came down late on Wednesday. With yesterday being Thanksgiving. We didn't get a chance to get to it. But the Supreme Court essentially striking down the order from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, putting a limit on how many people could attend certain religious services again simplifying a very complex issue, but basically saying Hey, If you say liquor stores and bike shops can have whatever. Then you can't say religious institutions can't have a two almost soon. You say they got it wrong. Um, not necessarily. I think they got it right. But it was the question Woz. Um Did the rule really apply anymore? Because the mayor of New York City had sort of lift exits. The Governor York had sort of color coded like from orange thread in the synagogue to church. We're back in the orange category. Not the red category. So the question was. Is this really an issue at all? But what this gets, too? And it's going to sound really where I got to get in the weeds for just a little bit Sure, because we should point out the people hearing your voice. You are a man of all you are an attorney license in two states, which means we gotta start paying my annual to send to stop it. It's gonna cost about 350 bucks. There is this issue was called muteness and rightness. Muteness basically means that the issues over and the court doesn't have to deal. With it right. This means the issue isn't ready yet for the court to deal with, And so what? I'm thinking what the Supreme Court did Well said, Hey, technically, the issue is moot in the sense that no. They change the color code. This game and all charges. You got to go back to 50%. But they said this could come back up again. And so we want to make sure that the issue is is sort of settled, at least for right now, and that's why I think that's I think that's why they did what they did because you can't Treat religious institutions differently unless you've got a really, really good reason to do it. It's like it's got. Let's just all the strict scrutiny analysis and I'm like really delighted, said It's truly with the girdle on which is what he said. It's like No, that's that's not it. It's no, that's not it. Um In a nutshell. You you have a situation where I don't see why. I just couldn't remember to everybody the same, which is like a 15% capacity across the board. 25% capacity across the board. You gotta social distance and that'll that'll take care of it. But now we got the mayor. The Governor York City say the courts rule doesn't matter because we're no longer in that red So we're now in the Orange zone. But still, the court could say, Hey, this will come back. We just want to make sure that we know exactly what's going on. Because, well, well, I do agree with with in principle with the theory that hang in the Constitution doesn't stop for pandemic. You still have to You're still you're still in the pandemic. I have so many legal questions off of this. And if you are really ever you see the read these articles and said, But why did you this This is this is writing Abdul's wheelhouse. So the first question I have is when a ruling like this comes down because we've seen people like in the state of Indiana be very upset that the governor and in the early days of the pandemic said Well, religious liquor stores can stay open. But these places have to close and go into a liquor store. But you can't go in here. Does this apply across the country now? Does everybody have to look at this and go? Okay. This is the new law like how do we snow? Because this we're basically dealing with emergency orders, so the emergency order only applies to the emergency. The order. You need actual case X again up to the Supreme Court. So what does that mean? Cause I would look at this and say this is a This is a case. So what? No, it's no. It's Zen emergency hearing. Um For lack of a better term kinda figure how to explain this in like 10, seconds or less. Since keeping relatively simple in a nutshell, The court will hear cases like you know. Plessy vs Ferguson served Kendall versus shabbas or something like that has gone through the district Court, the appellate court and then to the Supreme Court. Then the court will also hear these sort of emergency orders, which is Hey, our rights are being violated. We need to know a quick opinion. Next. Why Z, which which gets to need to where I was going to go? Which is? How does the court decide? I was gonna ask you that question. This seems like it came very quickly versus these cases that sometimes you know, we'll hear an argument in October and they don't rule until June. Or you give it I say that it takes forever to go to go through. These sort of things are for those specific issues. So like Trump may appeal Some ruling related to the election, and that would be just for that specific thing. It wouldn't have some overarching. Apparently it was in the emergency order category, for example. Hey, we need to throw these ballots out right now. Because December 14th, the Electoral college is going to do X Y Z so the court will now the court can hear things on an expedited basis. I'II Bush versus Gore. Which, interestingly, which, by the way only applies to Bush versus Gore. Well, so let's let's let's branch off that rabble by the whites, The mark and Rob Show Mark is out, Rob here of duels in for Mark, We're talking a little bit about this. Ruling by the Supreme Court. Limiting of the governor of New York's ability to restrict religious activities were trying to from a legal perspective sort through what that means. One of the fascinating things for me reading about this is how Gorsuch was sparring with Roberts in their legal written opinions now wouldn't Jerry Springer they weren't yelling at each other on stage, but the different articles I was reading, say, said, this is pretty intense for supreme for two Supreme Court justices. This is basically their version of sniping at each other is that is that unusual for judges? It is not uncommon for judges to take little pot shots at each other. Supreme Court has done it even on that level on that level yet because they're all so they're still human beings. But you know this because I want to lead us to another look, they clearly they are brilliant whether you agree with their their judicial philosophy or not there. They're brilliant legal people, So they know they're smarter than everyone else, right? I mean, that comes off a lot of times when you hear them question the people at the court, But this this is unusual for them for one, the leaders to take shot and another elitist and it is in the sense that you have both know too conservative judges what may be a bit more ideological conservative than the other. But it is not uncommon for judges, too. Occasionally taking taking ticket but sort of a backhanded compliment to each other. So to speak, Okay? I did

Singapore Airlines converts a parked Airbus A380 into a restaurant
"Up to experience first class meal service on a Singapore Airlines super jumbo jet. Even though it will never leave the ground a meal in a suite on an Airbus A 3 80 parked at Cheng Ji airport costs nearly $500 Bloomberg intelligence airline analyst George Ferguson says it's a way for the airline to generate some cash during a period of weak demand. You get some of your past customers out to the airline any potential future customers, Ferguson says. It may also attract customers who have never experienced a luxury seat on an eight 3 80 before and travel lovers who just miss flying love to do it. They do it on business that they do it personally, and you're going to make a heavyset of withdraw. Other airlines are also getting creative. I love this break but that's why I got around your rights. For Nice little nobody understood that but everybody in the wrestling world now man we know that reading. So, this measuring tickets is up eight four Tony. I remember this perfectly I remember you guys on the stage I remember Dana. I remember this whole thing but I did not no. I did not know what was going through your head so I do appreciate that and that was very funny. So look you think could be coming back right you think you could even a year and you're willing to do something in between whether that's a semi. That's that's Uis when that's what do I have you right? You're ready to stay busy. Full, dossier on the some of that. So I'll, be, ready I. Know You will. Tony is there anything else you WANNA get off your chest play? Is You know my own wrestling shoe. Like that. That's beautiful. Where do I get myself a pair of those? Ten of access auto acrobatics man thank you very much and We do a lot of collaboration. So even boombox coming up soon. So we'll send his inclusion Tony. You're awesome I appreciate I'm GonNa find you imagine submission Undergrad I will be in touch. Slow but. I definitely will all right guys that Tony Ferguson, the man in my opinion, the number one contender I think that you guys agree with me I really feel there's unfinished business at one, fifty five there was a round robin there was just there was Tony. What do we do now and Tony has some good ideas by the way. One seventy is very fun. You know he was bringing up that he wanted title back in high school when he was doing one seven, he's a one seventy pounds in many ways that really hurts himself really disciplines himself to get the fifty five. He then said Nick de as now that's another idea that I think you guys are going to pick up on right now. By the way. I told you guys I'm not an interviewer. I just want to have a conversation, but did you notice was it? Did you guys notice? That I tried I, believe I tried to ask his opinion on whether poor create or connor would be for the title. And I don't know if he was having fun with me or if I wasn't asking the question clearly, I? Don't know I'm just I bring that back to go he. Didn't stay on that point. You didn't get an answer. Yes I did I tried three times I. Struck out. There's only one Tony. Ferguson's. So Dana came out. He was talking to TMZ and they asked him about the heavyweights. Hey, what's up with Steve Pay? What's up Gano? And I was wondering that too I mean that was hot and heavy for a minute there and then. Just. Went Away and Dana said We're looking at doing it in March. Okay. Great. Not a huge statement. But there was a little bit to draw from it because it's extremely relevant. Win The heavyweights are going to fight meaning in Ghana. and. As to the timetable for the return of John Jones. Right I mean that's the other part of it. Dana has said that win John Returns he will walk right into a championship. I. Was never clear on the fact that that meant he had to walk into a championship. We're we're going to wait. Or if that meant, he's eligible event is what he likes. I will happily show him that respect. For, changing weight classes, I was just never clear on that and I decided to interpret, and I think you guys interpreted the same way. As I did that John will walk into a title shot, which means at an early list and a best case scenario, and they still got to work things out with John and get this whole thing situated but an earliest. He will. Not. Return. UNTIL STEEP A and in Gano, figure their business out right. And that's not a simple as you think, would've been gone Oh beat steeping. Those guys are what a piece and all of a sudden. You want to see that we see this happen all the time we do we we saw this happen when the biggest fight you can make. The whole sport was John Jones and Daniel Cormet par-three cormier gets bumped by steep pay and all of a sudden. He never talks about John Jones. Again, all he wants his steep in a rematch. I'm just sharing with you and I'm speculating. But what if I mean it's one of those things and so. Imagine you're John Jones and Dana 'cause. All right. We got this whole thing figured out. Your returning you've stayed in the pool everything's cool and the gang and finger finger next summer. Take some time. Get Big. You're going for title that. So if you're John. Your banking on a lot of things first off. That, in Gano, doesn't win and in some kind of fashion that fans are all of sudden in a demand for a rematch or there's some kind of weird controversy. You guys will remember the night just by example but when vitor beat Randy tour you guys remember that. Vitor through punch randy couture, main event world championship the Punch did not land. It ended the fight. What happened was there was a stitch gene on the glove and I'm talking millimeter a millimeter stitching on the glove, but that's stitching is is basically like fishing line. Okay. Think of that. It's like a very hard plastic to hold that globe together. So was sticking off the glove. So Randy slipped this punch by a millimeter. The stitching Kat is I ripped his eyelid off. Fight has to be stopped vetoes champion fair game by veto but veto is now the champion by TKO on a punch. It didn't land. You see where they had to rematch that there was nothing you could do. No matter who you told is going to get the next opportunity when a fight ends like that you have to rematch them. Okay. What if right in the game of what if you're John, Jones and you're sitting on ice. In the back end of a career as it is or even in a mythical in the prime of a career, either way who wants to sit out for a year, right? Not to mention this is the third time you set out twice in the principal's office. Now you're electing to sit out. Do you want to wait for summer for a best case scenario when you have to have and Gado and steeping anything can happen. The scariest guy in the sport against the best guy in the sport or the scares guy the division against the Best Guy Vision we can at least agree on that. Do. You want to put all of your chips in and wait for that. He WanNa go. Hey Man Gimme somebody else so I only offer you that Dana announcing that steep and Gano is looking like March is another way of saying in no scenario doesn't happen before March, which is another way of saying you pushing out the John Jones stay. Another interesting thing that happened was Cana near Whitaker and I had to think on this one for a little bit. Let me tell you what happened here. So, cannon near. Close discloses he breaks his arm now cannon near was one of my performances of the night. I really thought of MVP of the night I. Get that it goes to could be I thought number two was cannon here. I thought he was outmatched from jump. Street. I. Thought He looked tougher than all hell. I thought. There was times when he could've stayed there and got Tko, he found a way off campus canvas kept swinging. In a standup battle with one of the best strikers, the sports ever seen, and then we find out he has a broken arm. That then allegedly qualifies Whittaker to fight Oughta Sonya to which whitaker said and I quote I'm not stoked about it..

If you have my skills yesterday, it's not a natural thing for me. and. Share with you my relationship with Tony, there's some things. You don't say the Tony There's ways to Piss Tony off looking to Piss Tony off I'm looking to talk to Tony There's things that it's going on right now. Okay. Sometimes as a fighter. Your biggest challenge is that you don't have a challenge or that you don't get challenge that you want to be challenged with. So Tony is a very unique spot. And I'm trying to plan the words I'm going to say to him. Carefully. Because I'm not looking to Piss Tony off. That's not what this is, but there's some things I've got to talk to about look he was signed to fight Khabib five times he trained for. Five. Times. For reasons that were outside of his control and not his fault of those five times, which is a record. I believe all the fighting I can assure you for Dana White. I've never heard of it in my life. Any boxing or anything kind of combat. Talk about luck talk about just the. Way The cookie crumbles if you will fight never happened well, good news. Ten Days Ago Dana White announces I am prepared to make that fight a six time. Kabaeva is going into his twenty ninth fighting backing up ten days could be getting ready to go into his twenty nine fight and has made it very clear to the world that he's going to do thirty. He has also made it very clear to the world that will not be against Conor McGregor. Made it very clear to the world. He would like it to be against ESP but point I'm attempting to make is. The Khabib sweepstakes were very real and you have one last crack at it and it appeared ten days ago at least from where I was sitting. That you had a round robin. You I'm not including Michael Chandler Michael. Chandler, was not in the mix at this point I am not including conor McGregor, I'm going back ten days that might seem like a long time. Do you guys ten days ago? Those were not factors that it appeared that we had a round robin we had H. E. WE had Ferguson, we had Khabib. So, H in. Ferguson take care of their business that means now it's going to be gauging could be taken. Care of their business could be comes out on top. Now you gotTa do could even Ferguson Right? It's not as simple as well. This guy beat this guy and this guy, but it's not they had a round robin they might have all beat each other who the hell knows but that was the spot that we're in. And Tony was prepping for them by the way when I say Tony was prepping for it, I don't just mean he was in the gym and he was game plan he had trainers training partners and he was working was studying could leave i. don't just mean that Tony was willing to go through everything you had to go through to get to compete. He was not looking for any kind of an easy way out. Evidence of the fact that he went through just engaged to get to Khabib Lee stepped up and you guys understand my and there was talk that it was going to be Ferguson and Chandler. Okay. Great Winter Draws into compete. He was not looking for a handout. He was looking to do this any way that you can do I share that with you. This is a big deal. It's a very big deal. And I'm hoping that you can relate and have a level of compassion. I feel that there is a mistake that has made many times and Tony would fall into this category of this. Really Cool Guy who everything is life is going great and he's famous and he's on TV. When the other side of the life of a dirty rotten cage fighter is anything but glamorous. You are tired at all times. You are not going to social event anything you think like a Hollywood star other people are on TV we're riding around in a limousine cutting the line, the VIP sitting at this. Candlelit dinner and evening filet Mignon in the back it's anything but that. You're tired. You're sore. You're in thirty grimy gyms. You're throwing punches and trying to avoid him. You're getting extra miles in. You're watching what you eat your. It's just one of these things where sometimes it can be hard to relate to the fact that Tony Ferguson is a human being who has a goal, put his life on hold to try to achieve his goal. And he had the rug pulled out now there's more things you can cry in your beer for I understand in the world. In the problems that this world has I understand we're this is not one of them, but it is for him. This is very real for him and I can't personalise. Been, in, that spot. Just if I had somebody that wanted to fight on my career I, I ended up competing with them winner loser. But I had the chance. So it's one of these spots where I'm trying personally to put myself into Tony Shoes and think about some of the bigger matches that I had that I really wanted what would have done if I didn't get him for any reason, the guy retired or the guy refused me or the promoter wasn't interested or you the fans weren't interested. Was One of these things that I took for granted never really thought about it 'til Tony got put in this spot. Now. I don't know how much of what I said to you. I can say to Tony I. Don't know. I'm Tony might be in a great mood and. Share. Listen say La Vida could be but he had a good career and it didn't happen and who's next that is a possibility. It's just not the possibility on guessing. I'm guessing Tony is pissed off and I'm guessing the based on the questions that I asked him I could push him off even more, which is not my goal nor is it my job? I'm just lookin'. Have Conversation with Tony. But, I will share with you guys are certain things that I'm going to save the you behind his back that I would like to know that I don't know if I'm going to say to him I don't know. I'm not an interviewer. I gotta ask him about Khabib I've gotta ask him about what's next. I am inclined to stay the hell out of the way after that. We'll get Kony on the phones. All right guys. Now, I am joined by my friend by my former teammate and who I believe to be the number one contender but guys in all honesty I don't know what in the hell is going on in the lightweight division, which is why I would like to have the man Tony Ferguson hopefully shed some light on Tony what's going on? Man. You GotTa straighten me out Tony. I don't know how to come at you. This. Is Good News and we're happy for could even enjoy retirement or were heartbroken and a fight that was made five times. Dana White said ten days ago was willing to be made a sixth time and now can't happen. t tell me you tell me the temperature around here. Back fight really visit just like. you know happy retirement to comedian solid fight lasts let. Is All five last of the Bushes both fighters. Gauge you a little bit different in that play was the Geishas from the last night. I mean, it was good I mean those great fight in my opinion I, watched spectator but it got me Kinda visited you retire I, called out with Hey, I, also bought a Hakko. Okay Tony I gotTa Tell You you're in light spirits and I did not know the way this was going to go I'm happy to hear that. Now you bring up an interesting point. So you think that could be you think that could come see I took him as very sincere but I mean, what do you talk their retirement up to this negotiation? Is this just he how he felt in the moment? What do you make of this? Dude very well I think he knows me knows feel this sad to put. Nobody's really knowing what this is compared to our families in our camps I we. A lot of pressure. Behind of stuff is a lot of words exchanged in not. Being Erica's Estonian. Underneath The.

"That it was a deferment position in a negative light now in all fairness that's exactly what it is. But I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Isn't that what the number two ranked guy in the world is. Isn't he the afterthought to the number? One guy in the world I don't see how that's an insult that sounds like a pretty good spot. You're not the guy. You're the next best on all of earth I'm sharing with you I don't see the insult but when connor came out and said this all set right I mean Connor Connor makes a statement guys follow it. then. It seemed to me as though, and here's my question to you did Chandler change what that means comes into an organization. Champion from Bella tour. Becomes a free agent signs. First thing he gets asked to do is to be a backfire. Oh, by the way. Not only that consists of a training camp but in these times, it consists of flying not only to a different country but to a different continent. Oh, by the way quarantine before you go quarantine and when you get there, I believe quarantine when you get back multiple times, I mean it's a pain in the ass in all fairness the pain in the ass with your own reward being that you're going to step in on next to notice against either gay ci who's striking heavy or could be who's grappling have mean to polar opposites. Move Chandler was a stud move but now all of a sudden chandler is front and center. There was one promo and that entire pay-per-view done on an athlete who was not competed on the car that night it was Michael Chandler. There was one interview done with an athlete who was not on the card that night it was. Michael Chandler. You can like it or not like it. Michael Chandler is in the forefront of the conversation I think that you do like it but I'm telling you how we got here. They could very easily brought him over from Bella tour. Stuffed him somewhere in the deck. Even. Done it as a political move to take a big star from turned me write these things happen goes both ways ballot or does it you have great good for the athletes? Right. But you see these things you see these things. Or Chandler can say, yes to a very hard and daunting request on his first day at work do what he did and be rewarded for. I'm not talking about being rewarded for from the U. OF C. Listens to you guys. But you guys get your information somewhere when a guy has a prepackaged be role played through an interview and he's a live. Standing interview on a major league pay per view it matters. Chandler matter. So I'm just asking. With, all the apparent awards and rewards that has come from Chandler, simply saying I'll do it. Has Chandler redefined what.

"You were a main event and you win. You do not then slide down the card. The next time you fight, you will be the feature match with somebody there's nowhere else to go. You go from Maine Card Tacoma event to main event to title fight. That is the way that this works. It is not you beat the number eight guy you beat the number six guy. Now you get the number one guy that is a mythical equation in your guises head. Is the place on the card. Great, news here by Leeann. Now let me give you a little backstory because this is interesting. So Leon did not want to fight your mind for the same reason that nobody wanted to find him. It's a tough night out and he's not rank. So the the rankings committee starts to look at that and I'm glad you brought that to our attention. Leon because you haven't thought the window that you have to fight to maintain a ranking. You are out of the rank all of a suddenly on Edwards quite believe was number three. In Popular Manny, people believe number one right I? mean. We're many people believe we should be fighting for the championship now few guys you could say that about but in fairness to Liotti come on, he's one of the guys. That you brought that to our attention, you're not eligible for ranking you're out of the rankings. So now that you're not ranked, you got no reason to fight your mile. So Leon goes. fair-play, I'll fight your Maya. They put in back into the rankings. So the reason that's interesting just from a political, purely political standpoint. Is Now a Jemayel Beats. Leeann Tobias gets a ranking. Whereas if both of them are ranked and I mean you see where that gets interesting I thought it was a very interesting play all parties involved, but it also time fight promotion. Getting two people to fight. It worked. It was one of the more interesting and better plays. From. A purely political stamp politics better than this I mean, right the guys are the ones are politics, not the office. The guys are the ones trying to bring numbers into this whole thing and somebody says, and here's what I'm ranked and therefore than. They played the game office played it back. I thought it was brilliant. I loved it. One of my favorite things of the whole week. Here's a question for you did Michael Chandler change what it means to be a backup fighter. So, let's rework this. Let's back up to cheils memory, which is usually pretty good but I. Don't think that you have to correct me if I'm missing something guys, I never heard of this backup fighter business. I never heard of it. We still don't have a name for. Right, I've called it in the batter's box. I don't like that term but nobody's giving me a better one. Point is we don't know a whole lot about this. I was at an event was a matter of fact as a matter of fact. It was conor McGregor versus Beep I. think that's right. I think it was connor versus could be but within that card. Was Derek Lewis versus in Ghana. So when I shook to the way with ESPN airline, I are covering the actual way in the real ones and. All of a sudden. Volkov, gets on the scale. And I'm looking around the asking what's woke up doing here. Well. It turned out and they haven't told anybody this Volkov how to deal with the UFC. The VOLKA WAS GONNA fly in from Russia. Rumored to be paid. Ten thousand dollars if that's even relevant to the story, have his paperwork on Pete. Cleared by the Commission, get on the scale and should anything happen to in Ghana or Louis Volkov's there to step in? Okay That's when we. Very first ever heard back a finer was. In had never been done. We'd never heard of it and by the way to re say what? I receptor US's even tell anybody volk just gets on the scale and then we find out why he's even there. Okay once that comes out. I don't know why nobody was told. With a UFC thought, there would be pushback or resistance or card subject to change them in all fairness you have see should've gotten credit for that. That is being very forward thinking. To preserve a match that you wanted to take place. I only say I mean, they were in all fairness they should have told people this was going on. Maybe they didn't see it that way or maybe they just missed the press release but this is how we found out well, after that started to become a thing. Third be a pretty Goddamn good solution particularly when you have a main event, the next one that I recall was going to be tyron woodley versus Darren until. Qamar uz men. Backup. Fighter. Now you saw how well that worked out right. Woodley ends up beating till his next fight. He goes into the backup for the backup fires a very real thing. I feel as though, we've never put enough credit into that. You're essentially being identified as the number one contender. I don't know how you offer to do that through training camp, get licensing make weight, and then somebody rips the rug out from under you, which is why bring the point about the press release I feel feels that it's a very good thing i. feel. It was a very forward thinking part of the Ucla they should've taken a victory lap for but. Not My point, my point is this position. So you saw how well it worked out for US men. Somebody else did it. There's been back fighters since then but all of a sudden we run into the pandemic. Absence of shows, and we come back into to forty nine. which is going to be Ferguson versus gay cheat and it turned out that Connor was asked to be the backup fighter. Now. I don't know that it was in the exact same position in that connor was to come out and way in and be there in case I don't think that was i. don't think that's what it was. I believe that when could be couldn't make the trip? That's when Connor got the phone call. So I don't think it was apples to apples, but the way the stories told it was the same thing I think the story is being told wrong. What I just said is right that could be could not get out of Russia Airlines pandemic lockdown. So Connor was asked to come in and take on Ferguson when Connor said no gay CI came in Connor said, no saying I'm not a backup fighter. So all of a sudden that hurt the stigma of the.

"Chandler then reversed course somewhere along the way instead instead instead of Ferguson I think I should fight gay chee. Now, I don't know that I have an opinion on that I. love either one of those fights. Chandler, is going to have to fight somebody and it's going to be a hammer. They're going to deal chandler straight from the bottom of the deck and he knows that and that's when he signed up for. He's calling out Ferguson. He's calling out gates you come on man. Respect to chandler that's a hard night out. That's a very, very hard night out. He's asking what nobody asked for one of those two guys. Then it becomes a you know you do have to come back to get you. We're starting to we're just guessing here but if we're starting to look to January and that was also relevant to Chandler's point, Chandler said look. Asia. Just in an interview he didn't take very much damage. The can be bite which is a good thing and he says he can be ready in six to eight weeks. I can also be ready in six to eight weeks which happens to align. With January twenty third. which happens to be we're connors fighting PORTIA, which happens to Linda. Through the idea that instead of putting the belt up for grabs that night, maybe it goes to something like Chandler set. Right. The US's never done a tournament and I don't know that you would call it a tournament. But as fans if we go. To number one contenders fights in the same that's a semi-final semi-final. The Chandler's what you call a tournament. The question does become. What do you do with Tony? I. If you WanNa talk about Justin Gay, she can be ready at six to eight weeks. Tony can be ready in sixth to eight hours. Does that lend to it does that lend it to your opinion and your influence? There is something to be said for parody how much do you want to throw gay ci right back in there does gates you want to go right back in there I mean, do you come up short for a championship and then a guy leaves which now makes your likelihood to get it. Better. Do you think that that's not I would not that Damn Championship anyway, you could get you got an interim you caught a world championship do at one, eight, five, five personalizing this any way you want to do it I I used to come through tournaments my whole life I loved it what a guy didn't show up. Guy Got sick miss the bus missed I. Give a damn. It's a turn I mean in all fairness I think you guys can relate to, that I, don't know that you always have to stack the deck against yourself in some. False vision of bravado you win the matches you can win when you can win and that's the way games are played not just this one. I think one fifty five is a lot of fun in many ways. In. Many ways if I had a request of vein, it's don't don't tell us right away. We already know conners fighting. That's going to be a huge night. If you WANNA spice that up a little bit I'd get it. If you need to get that the belt around somebody man I get the whole thing you don't have to do it right now. All fairness. We're having a lot of fun right now. What's more fun than to speculate then guests then to argue. Of different possible scenarios once you have the answer. The detective workers that you got to move on to something else. I don't think that we need this answer right now I don't think what we're going to do with. Kabaeva Abell. Decided right now. They will move on very quickly and could be was very sincere could be could be walking away. I offer you that because if we were to go back to the last time that we're in the same situation, it would be Henry who and even then people were a little bit loose. Henry mean it. Seemed like a negotiating ploy to the press conference forty-five minutes later, and he said, well, you know if there's a certain amount than I'll take it all back. Data to play the game. He said Man, I'm GonNa take I will take my athletes at their word. They can also take mine which is on the road right now when I returned to Vegas. Good matchmaker meeting I'm GonNa make a match by have championed, get a match for him, but I don't have a champion. I'm GonNa make a championship match, and in all fairness, he went back to Vegas a week later he did just that. So I don't know how much I'm going to get my way in that Dana. Let this simmer for a little bit. But I would request any. Let it simmer for a little bit. Look Chandler does not have an opponent or a date in Chandler matters in this division Ferguson doesn't have an opponent or a date gay she says, he could be ready six to eight weeks. I. Don't know the Commission's agree with them. I think if we're talking in the short term, you gotTa, take off the board. We've got connor EMPORIA. Why don't we have to take the most obvious what do we have to take writes? What's right in front of us? What are we have to take? What's next? It just put the belt. I'm GonNa give you my prediction a little bit early pour in a big fight. It's a meaningful fight. It will not be for the lightweight championships. The SHEMAYA sweepstakes right and I don't know if they're sweepstakes when when we're usually talking about a fighter and somebody's trying to get a whole bunch of people trying to get the same guy. When Connors fighting hope people want it largely because of the payday that comes for me whether comes to mind and for the same reasons which you're of I'm using the term sweepstakes but in all fairness, it was the opposite it was who can avoid Stepping on that land mine and guys that all sorts of reasons let me give you a quick story. So Leeann Edwards is going to take the fight. First off whether Lien knows this or not, and he may not at this. This is great news for Leon. Right. Leon is a guy who has done everything right at checks a lot of boxes, right? Not just not just skill not just he has a history with the current champion not just he lost an eight fights which span over four you. He's a likable guy. He's a young guy. He's a handsome guy. I mean he checks a lot of boxes le-let Edwards has everything that you would think for star potential. But for some reason just hasn't quite got that identity yet. He just hasn't with the North American fans. Fine Save that thought. But one of the reasons that Leon didn't WANNA fight Jeremiah's for all the reasons I just laid out because man I got a history with the champ I'm dating back four years eight Gimme somebody who's.

"Tito. And I remember right there the middle promoted this he's telling the world that we to beat me and I'm telling the world how I was going to beat him. I remember having to stop the call interject and go hey, John by the way. That's not that's not how this is done. You. Are the greatest light heavyweight of all time and say skill issue as well as A. Competent. Who are you competing with and winning you competing with like you don't have to win as many. As but in John's mind he did. In John's mind and tell he beat. He does record Tito was the best it was very respectful. It's an. As Hell. But. It was respectful and it was the rules in the code that John had set out way back. Then he's following those same rules and that saying code today now I get I realize John, is looking at it wrong. I realized how ridiculous those numbers are I realized when people tried to argue a Lebron versus Jordan and Jordan had all these rings and Lebron and have them in and therefore Lebron was it doesn't work that way. It's silly. But it was John's code and it is consistent and it's the same code that he's attempting to argue to this day at least within his own mind. He has captured it. He's not all of a sudden because it favors and that's what I'm offering for you. He is not all of a sudden because it favors him. How many successful title defenses he had, and then to juxtapose that against somebody else in this case could be that has been the code that John has always followed including when it worked against him and he held himself a lower standard. I the last one to come out and defend John Jobs on just sharing with you very openly. Now that it said, and we've had a couple of days removed. I like it. I don't agree with it. I do think it's could be. That isn't the point. The point is there's no way to contest this other than popular opinion, and there's no way to get a popular opinion unless you want to go out and publicly fight for it. It's the same thing. They can beat the Mike John's doing the same exact thing Egypt using twitter. I think you should consider that even if you don't agree and even if you dismiss them of the points that I've attempted to make for you. Can we. All. Agree. The John is showing. No matter. How silly and ridiculous John is showing a competitiveness. Can we agree that we respect and like competitors? So, what do you do at one? Hundred, fifty, five pounds? I have a feeling we're going to keep on talking about this until we get a decision made right until Dana comes out and has some kind of a press conference. And the big favorite right now is that you've already got it. You've already got could be been. You've I apologize you already have pouring. You already have connor that's already made that January twenty third throw the built up for grabs. Okay. I, see the laziness in the simplistic this that for some reason. I don't think that's going to happen. No inside information there's something about that that just I don't feel it's going to happen I. Feel it's too obvious. I don't know how bad connor is GonNa want that connor doesn't necessarily have a say Dana is going to decide. Who is going to go fight for the championship John Antiquated on this on twitter in John did not take a side John just offered thoughts. And John asked a question he said okay. I'M GONNA name five guys for you. I want you to respond with just one name. Don't try to match up these five guys with who should fight for, but one name that you feel should fight for. and. He listed Olivera and I think he put Chandler and there he definitely had Ferguson poor economy. I. Believe that was John's five and I think John also has identified the right five and even of all of air might have caught you guys off guard. I think if you're going to go five I think that Jon. Did the right five guys. and. Taylor then Wade in. Separately. But Chandler, way then instead, let's do a tournament. Pori in there and all fight with Tony and call it a semi-final whoever wins goes and fights for the belt. Now, as much as connor is not going to greatly influence this chandler is not going to greatly influenced his antics. Greatly influences than I am not going to greatly influenced this but I do think if you start to take all of our ideas together this is I think I think we're all on to a point here. I Love Annex started, which is don't make the match for me. Tell me the guy that you think should be there. Okay. Great. I also think that Chandler makes a fair point that we're down to forego. We can't use five right we could use four. Maybe, you have them fight on the same night and then they drawn to somebody else a little bit less obvious. That there is something that is accidentally dismissive. About just throwing the belt up. That accidentally became vacant for a fight that just happens to already be made. I mean there's something about that. You could do it and nobody would complain. And the odds on people are saying that that is going to happen I'm just push back a little bit I. Think I'm GonNa be right on this I do not think all of a sudden you're gonNA wake up one day and poor versus Connors for the championship I just don't. Don't based on nothing based on no evidence. One guy sitting over here talking to I don't think that's going to.

Northern California under 'critical' fire risk
"Wildfires wildfires so so strong strong right right now now the the state state is is actually actually playing playing a a little little bit bit of of chess, chess, moving moving personnel personnel and and equipment equipment into locations, most prone to a fire before any smoke is even seen. "I was very lucky in the I didn't grow up with A defamation of late night. I didn't care about late night before I did it. I didn't really care about late night when I was doing it. I don't really care about it. Not so it I felt like a load me to be a little freer with the form. I mean I had to follow certain rules. Like you're gonNA wear this suit and you know Is like our I Leeann. If you work in McDonalds you rarely but Other than that Is You know you could do certain things were there. I mean there's certain interviews that people remember in particular of any if I'd like Roszak testify. Say Great Great guests great interview yet. There are a few that stack. I mean. Usually what happens is relationships that you've developed over the years. Carrie Fisher and I became friends on that. Show Roy Williams. We were talking about for the show who I loved. I met you know when I was doing late night. And we became friends from his appearances on the show In in actual terms of one offence of us the one that the always I always give you an example over with Desmond. Tutu. But that's because it's Desmond Tutu. Thank you know. And it's funny that you know he's on a it's funny. I remember sitting Josh. We're not gonNA have a skeleton tonight. I you would hope Mundell July. It's about respect. Say Bishop Tutu. When he was on the show I went to see him before I ended. And he said Who's on the show tonight? And I said you guy from the bachelor that makes me like him even more point I mean but as a as a human being that you know try and say ins yes can of normal leave and I guess So yeah I think. Probably Him Well THAT'S I. I expected that answer but I also wanted to ask the question. Just well I mean th there were others. There's so many of them. But what's weird is that I you know people say to me that time you interviewed number. I have no recollection. Look new recollection of doing. I've said to people. Hey Nice to meet you and I was on your show. Five teams Michael so they. It's when it's recording issues. You have inefficient. That human memory is because `electronic memory records everything of course. Yeah as as those who are about to run for office in the next fifteen. Twenty years are going to find out but the focus instagram account. That once is there is there for a And there's no hiding anymore. No well if you engage right the whole thing. Is You have to participate in this for it to Mar One of the great gifts I think of of social media is that it's not compulsory Just don't have to turn it off. Yeah and it's like well like you know. movie. He hates to rent right and he said he told me this thing he said. I hate to her and I told my manager said well. If you don't know come see when you do go into her and he said so what you're saying is if I don't go into than when I don't go into future see me. I think social media is a bit like no one old. No one will see your stuff. I don't fucking care right fine It's I think you can give it too much power and I've said I've done that But it's human. It's human to want to respond. It's human to have a reaction but it's nice when it can just be used as the tool that it is. I don't I don't engage with the to actually For about a year. Maybe two years I. I wasn't onto a tall and then two days ago I said Tomasz. Who's a guy the guy I work with? I said let me know the password. I'm going to tweet some things and I went on. I tweeted a picture of the Sun. Rise IN LA ADVICE SPELT. Good morning wrong and everybody went. I was like fuck you guys on it today but I will be on it tomorrow. I think I think I'll probably a couple of days every few years. It'll be okay. You'RE GONNA parcel it out. Yeah a little bit also. I don't think he's kind of natural to be on the much. Well no but I mean if a lot of people with fertile comic minds nationally Humorous Find that it's their outlet now. Well here's what I would say. I don't want to blow my own trumpet. I think I've got a fairly decent fair trial comic mind. Thanks but that was a real twitter bar. I also Experienced in this game. Yes And I've worked with really eat in all honesty. Peerless sally who taught me that? Is it really worth that joke? Like is a great job. A great joke but people go crazy is a no joke is ever worth one. That's also what's Nice about being around actual people as you could tell a joke with actual people and they can see that as a joke. Exactly and that's I mean I would if you heard a safe you if anybody heard me and my parents at home because we're just ridiculous absolutely ridiculous but it's the kind of thing that it's like but that's because it's safe. Ali Wong says the great thing about as you've talking about getting married and she she described my sore in Montreal is so good as you said you know. My Marion getting married to someone. I like come on and then I'll go and I suppose that's okay. I'm GonNa ask you this earlier but so this is a not not in any way. Linear chronological the bastards from Hell. I'd love to take credit for that. I joined the band that had just changed their name from the Boston Herald and then they changed the name to the Dream Boys result. There's a one eighty. I als- frayed these nectar. He just astonished. He's alright so powerfully. Funny do you remember them in the local hero? No I don't. I'm about to revisit that because it came out on criterion right. Well I don't even know what that is the Local hero was when we were in the band together. You're left by. The band broke up because peer went. Here he plays. "It was a movie which series of unfortunate events young. It was called and the director. Whose name escapes me. Sadly in a moment of US quite pleasant man he had called me up and said look. We don't have any lines but we want to improvise a bunch of things for these characters in the script so he got me and you gotTa Bunch of other improvisers and we and we did stuff and it was all of the movie all of it. so Basically an extra in the film but it was a two and a half hour makeup job for the character. I was playing because I was playing tonight to call the person of indeterminate gender and halfway done so I was a break on one side and wearing a suit and the is cut down the middle. Actually I would imagine it probably would get you in trouble now for that kind of anyway it was a long makeup job and I was standing. It was just assist hateful. I just hated that. Oh took hours I think. Actually the makeup artist won an Oscar for that movie. But it was a long long time and I don't. I don't like all that stuff so I was. I was just bored by remember stands at the craft service table. One day and Walter Parks was one of the producing. Moving water. Of course is huge Producer in Hollywood missed like giant movies. And all that kind of thing and he'd come over and he'd seen the independent movies I've done. So how'd you enjoy making these big movies? Necessa- be honest. I hate it. I hate it moves. It moves like molasses As an is boring I never want make another one of these and he said to be ready said well. I think we can arrange that. And he made me laugh. O.'s very grumpy that day and after two and a half hours meg. I actually think it was more than that. I think it was closer to four hours. Make I mean it was just the because I make up and they were waxing my arms and it was. Some people are built for that and can do. I don't have the patience for it. I just I'm not good at that. I remember Jim Carey. Had Jim was in that movie? He's he's in that. But he's so he's in grinch and he's an intense. I remember reading bringing up a that. They brought in some sort of force. Just saying if you could deal with X. Y. Like waterboarding you can deal with wearing this. Do things like hit himself. Detroit the techniques of Ho survive. I have to say Because it was the only time of Jim Carey. She was fantastic. Yeah he he never applied makeup to me once he was. He was lovely actually he. He's he's a very nice man. I've seen him off and on since an very sweet crazy person but that's all right you don't it's funny when people you say you know like Hey. Tom Cruise is crazy. But yeah he's Tom Cruise He's awesome. He's awesome. Tom Cruise. You got some crazy ideas. I don't care if he's crazy ideas. These Tom Cruise is like Japan. Bruin Christian Bale trouble for Yellen. Not You'RE GONNA blow up on this and I'm like wait so you're paying this guy twenty million dollars a movie to be a dark brooding unseat. He shows up to work. He becomes a dark brooding unstable character and get mad at him. That's ridiculous I it was. I felt that he was really railroaded. That that's sure a line. There's a perfect example of something that Ten years earlier fifteen years earlier would never have known known by the public. And when I when I think it was fairly early in social media but it became a thing yeah sharable yes and when you have a platform to share something I mean that. That's the Nevada of the idea that things can go viral. It means that you could work on something. You could work on a sketch and love it and it could go viral Something you really really proud of could go further than you could have imagined at the same time you tripping and saying off fuck can go viral and you know in the whole world sees you your dad. You guys are more edgy. Family young Wednesday fucked but But he doesn't care what I say thirty three I feel I can. But it's is a north thing because the idea as you say of going viral. I think to myself well. Yes but does it have any real value? Well no no. I don't really know hell. No I mean I don't want to complain about everything. Well a lot of people so it. Well yeah okay. A lot of people so twisters shit movie like how dare you read any time? Somebody brings up that movie. I'm reminded of the fact that I was working at entertainment. Tonight and in my mail one day came the published screenplay of twists. Oh my God which is based on a story by Michael CRICHTON. Yeah you know substantial author. Yeah but it's like anyone want to read the screen pilot. A MEMBER OF THAT BILL. Paxton thank had had this line. Where he he? They're they're both racing to the T. Both guys are racing towards a Tornado. And some guy shows to another guy. He's not in it for the weather. He's in it for the corporate sponsors. Oh my God but member of Film Offman good raise. The Was on the late night show and I brought up twister. Because he's in that movie for how many them and I knew you were going to ask. Oh that's great. That's great now speaking of the late night show which I I have to say to you I still mourn the passing of thank you that though I understand after ten years shows it's not. It was a lot younger But during your rain there was not yet I think the time of social media it was ended up changing his. It was coming in. I mean there were there were it was beginning to happen and I left in. Twenty fourteen ended twenty fourteen. So it was you know. Twitter was around but I don't think with the world domination that it is now the now occupies. Here's the thing that I think about the domination of it though I mean yes certainly. The president of the United States seems to spend his life on it but If you it's kind of like tree in the forest thing if you if you don't see it doesn't exist. No people people going crazy on twitter. Are they okay? I haven't noticed the damn thing. They're so like a lot of people on facebook very angry. Okay it's gone viral. Fine okay good when you when you were doing that nightly show would you have? Would you seek any? You know what I'm looking for. Reaction Immediate reaction it. Does the audience laugh. You're performing for clearly before a live audience. Showed them all the time. And so you knew whether joke you know was was well received. You're not yeah but when the show was over yeah Our was up. Yeah did you just wash your hands of it? Yes Yes you have to. Did you ever You ever run an impeachable sally. Oh I know who he was right Peter Lasalle. If you don't know Peter was the is the great guru of late night television. Peter was the producer of Johnny. Carson's tonight show for thirty years he produced David Letterman. He developed Jon Stewart. E Amini any just my show the whole time. I was on Late night and Pete used to always say the gift and the curse of late night is this. Is that if you do a great show on Mars done next to a terrible show? The gift is does Mars done next? And that's the way you have to approach or you go crazy. At least I think I went crazy anyway to be honest do not show I I. I think I'd go into some very Very old head space towards the end of it and I only started. Komo that once. I knew I was going to go once. I knew I'd actually quit as okay now. I can enjoy it again because it felt seems so ungrateful to say this. I mean I'm very proud of that show and I'm very happy and pleased that I did it but it was like presence in sometimes like why am I gonNa get out of this. When will this ever think that? Sometimes when we see someone like Sam Rubin who's been on television here for ever you know some such a happy guy absolutely but but what I think about sometimes is if I'm seeing him at the seven PM screening but I know that he asked to get up at four. Am or whatever it is. That's how my my loves what. He does one hundred percent. It's just that I'm very. I'm always production minded. Yes so for me. I'm thinking you go really hard when even things like your parent. Yeah you know and there are certain things that you must be honest though like the last three or four years that late night. Show what you what you so. That was me work you know. I turned up. I did it and I left. You know that wasn't the first few years I was there all day but then by the time ago two three three four years I would turn up. We shoot at five return of about three thirty. We should at five and I'd be home by six thirty so it was a three hour day but even then it's like The good thing was that it was a very unusual agana an accident of timing because CBS had been so desperate to get dave after the late night. Wars with you know in the nineties they had given him the real estate on the on the air he owned the time period between eleven. Thirty and one thirty so I really. I wasn't really an antibodies radar like. Cbs didn't care about me because isn't on the show. So the bad thing was the never put up any Bo. Bo's never promoted the show. They never run any trailers resolved. Bullshit like I was a forgotten. Red Headed Stepchild. But the good news was he didn't give a shit about me because so there was no real notes nobody really told me with the new so benign neglect right so it was kind of the best of times it was the worst of. That's part of what made it fun. Though is that it was it felt and to an audience member. Your you know your there but it felt authentic to you. It was an and ridiculous at times and even Jeff which still makes me laugh. It's funny that you all of those things hated. Jeff isn't that funny. It's like I love Jeff Jeff. The Rubio's got Josh Robert Thompson. Who is the is the creative mind behind that character and the the voices and the performance of his just such a genius and And I had started off doing jail. I The idea of Jeff has been kind of protest against the robotic idea of a sake agrees with every new saying and and because George is so good he became such a good sake that my experiment in protest failed completely. Cbs hated hated. Jeff they they hated. That was like it's weird. I always thought I was felt like your show just a little bit of peewee Herman Joe in the way things happen but it didn't feel like a forced how clever we are. No I think is was well. We'll happen without late night. Show is because CBS neglected and didn't give a shit about it. The people who found the show wanted to find it. You had to you because what would happen as like you'd watch Dave an for some reason you say the TV you fell asleep. Maybe during the woke up and I was on and you and I think most people went. This is weird and then watch anymore but the people who went. Wait a minute. There's a horse dancing and the skill of the robot and so you brought the people who wanted to see it to eventually. You had to find the show. Sure it was it was I think that show on. Television was kind of like a cool club and then advertising he. You know you you if you knew it was. A new era was and then. That's that's what it was Do Do did you. How do you relate to the Larry Sanders show? Well that funnily enough I watched A guide watched it when it went out and then I watched again after I go in late night and it's too then. It became just like watching a documentary. But you're hilarious it first and then when you watch it while you're leading hosting yup that's it that's exactly it. It's really weird..

"I don't know that I really thought about it was. It was more because I I had a very odd It's really about time and I think most of life is about timing. I was when I was coming up through school system. In Britain in the nineteen seventies was an experiment the called comprehensive education which it it didn't work and it was very It was very tricky Because it it treated kids. I think lake Statistics and that doesn't work and it and it certainly didn't what for me so I bailed on that system when I was sixteen but I wasn't a dumb kid I just was. I needed some guidance in that wasn't available at the time an obese fault but it's just the way it was so what happened is a became an autodial. Dr Suppose I remain curious and remained interested in in everything to do with the ours and I could read and write had told me how to do that so I i read an and was allowed myself to be led by events there you know because I was a certain age. San Time punk rock was happening and punk rock then was very different. The way people remember a punk rock wasn't just me. It was of course about the music. The music was was the engine off it but really it was a it was a fashion and a movement and and you know it was really designed by you. Know Vivienne Westwood Malcolm Waste. But let's be honest And she created a whole imagery that was so striking and and with that imagery and with the music was coming from the young bands the IT created an environment where all young people where n bands all young people were inbounds. It was a thing that you did like being in a band when I was sixteen. Seventeen years old was like the week. Kids have twitter accounts now. You just you had to be in a band now. The the difference was in. I was pretty good. I was a pretty good drummer. So I get drawn at a p bans where I started to meet people. I wouldn't normally have matt real musicians. Artistic people people who were connected to the theater and two movies and so I get dragged into a world through through that time that I would never have been anywhere near that world Because of just the nature of the way things were at the time it was like everybody was an artist like the same way. Everybody is a critic now. Sure about but it's a very different thing for new criticism that we you and the way. The criticism is perceived. This is completely different. Thing is. It's not it's not the same. Well no I mean there's no It's not regarded as discipline. Now just people you know a spouting or spewing right and mostly I think it I mean look. We're always critics who were dealing with ruined demons through their hatred of of wherever they were covering. I don't I that was never your problem You have other problems land but that was not on the show but I think the I think. A lot of criticism now is Is the social media because all media is social media now and you know this is actually. There's no such thing as like you know. Top Notch media doesn't make any sense anymore. I it's like the idea I think media knows like You Watch toddlers play. Soccer ball goes one way and they'll just run half the ball and then because they just run out there was no sense to at all like I and I think when you use like twitter or facebook as a source. You're no longer a journalist on. Yeah it's you know But they you know people are saying on twitter like so walk you know. People are writing on the bathroom wall. Like that's shouldn't really be part of story. Yeah but I think that I don't know why the Hell I go on some grapevine about something but I I it just seems to me that The it was very supportive time when I was when I was a kid. It was very in a weird way. Everybody was saying how negatively were like eight more but actually it was very supportive. There was always everything was very autistic. Approbation for what you did. Yeah absolutely and you know. Even the mere fact of Dune something was seen as as positive like because you were writing a song or doing some stand up or you know trying to make a film or wherever. I'm not saying that people don't do that now. I think they do burt and young people I want to make this about. Young people are Biden thing they are. But it's just it's a world which I would have difficulty navigating now. It seems very different. Speak A language that I don't really speak which is suppose is appropriate. Because I'm a fifty seven years old. I shouldn't speak the language of seventeen years old but but yeah but I think that I hear particularly comedians of of my vintage. I hear them saying You can't say this now and you can't say that now. Well maybe you shouldn't said the anyway. I don't think there was any real problem with you. Know you can't see you gotta say hateful horrible things though. I mean that's good. That's good that you guys horrible things and and I think the complaining about people complaining is seems a little strange because that's kind of what you do is a comedian. Right you exercise your right to complain. Comedic Louis you're complaining about me. Well isn't that fair so I I don't WanNa like harsh on the youth I I I don't under- I find that. I think it would be very difficult to grow as an artist in that environment so different. Yeah because your work is out there right away. You don't get to fail and prime you don't get to fail in a club you'll get to fail on a little place you don't get to. An failure is an essential component to learning. Yeah trial and error. That's why it's called dies. They'll call you know trial and succeed. Dr Trial and error. My Dad just found. He's been going through papers and found a stack of rejection letters. He has articles that submitted to now defunct magazine. That's a little bit of pleasure New Yorker which is ongoing. They'll be around for a little bit. You think about that. If it were now he might go online and tweet something like. Oh can't believe I just got a rejection letter from so and so and it becomes sort of bigger as opposed to just being. I think that the there is that weird kind of it. It's not possible to think about something if it's already in the public sphere. I wouldn't be able to process anything but maybe kids can. Yeah Yeah I'M NOT I. There's that the line in the David Bowie song changes. I always go to start finding myself complaining about things when he says these children that use spit on as they tried to change their world. They are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through. And I think that that would be well remembered by my generation older when they complain about young. Maybe getting girls you maybe want to save the planet from the effects of the industrial revolution. I don't see anything wrong with that. You know it goes wrong with a young person saying you know what you guys suck and we should do bear. I think that if young people saying that perhaps Libya should maybe listen to them. I'm trying to listen to the match. I think it's the only thing keeps you. Alive is listening into to the youth not necessarily agreeing with them but but at least here in their point of view the they're not wrong because they're young kids. My oldest son is eighteen and my youngest boy is just coming up nine. Yeah so you have a a test lab right. Yeah well it's it's interesting. They're both very forceful personalities and so they as I respect their point of view which I I felt like the people that I respect the I liked when I was young like. We talked very briefly about pure cook. Peer Cook was a huge star in Britain when I was a young comic and I got in touch with them and asked the Duma a thing for me and he agreed to do it and he knew not only. I'd been doing as a young comedian. But he was aware of other young people were doing. He was very you know he had his own demons. No doubt but he was very Accepting an appreciative of artist what their age were and I feel that that that was really important to me every marked to me and I and I would. I would really hate to be one of those guys that try and squash and people are coming up behind you. That doesn't seem right to mail not at all. We just interviewed Terry. Gilliam and I'll say and And we discuss beyond the fringe. Huge impact had here in the state. Yes yes aim to Broadway with dry with that. Perform that was Jonathan Miller. Pete Dud and That's right and and And then Peter. Cook and Dudley Moore went off on their own as as seem several films. Derek and Clive and the the dazzled the dazzled is a great and they're in the wrong box together which is a very funny. Yep Yep and They they really made a deep deep impression one thing about beyond the fringe which I mentioned during our conversation with Terry that they did an original cast album. Yeah and I had that I I took it out of my public library and played it over and over and over until I had virtually memorized it And I think what I could afford. I bought my own and I. It's in my head to this very day. Do you have any of the Derek and Clive Recur? No I don't I should. I don't know how you what your language restriction as a but they yeah I don't I don't know if things were necessarily bear then but it's just the language that I speak and I was very appreciative of these guys like You Know Billy Connolly as well was always a very billy was like Jackie Robinson for me. You know he's like before belly. Nobody from where I was from did anything you know. That's why he became a hero. Yes absolutely remain so to me. I and one of the great things about About meeting him. 'cause I know you know is that. He's satisfying pleasant and crazy and nice and supportive. And that's really great and very young. The greatest feeling for me always is when you meet someone with their family And because I grew up with his family right seeing how he was a dad seeing that he was so playful and sweet and very loving and very nurturing even just two kids in school you know he was always right kind to all of us. That makes it so whenever I I am in the UK where he is a god and people talk about him. I can say. And he's a wonderful person you know and you can see that you know him so you can lord it over auto reason to exist. What can I hold over? You wondering on the soundtrack of the Pixar movie brave? Yes You and and both play roles in that film right Is that some sort of a Scottish force field. Is there daydream overnight? Or FROM SCOTLAND IS IN I. I mean I I know more people who are in that movie then. I don't think I know anybody who's in that movie it's It was a it was a funny one I didn't I don't know if I am before. Or after the hang of his before it'd be before we didn't want to voice voice over on separately. Yeah now was Lemony Snick at your first. Brush with cinema. No lambing SNICK. It came after the I don't know why don I I I got done saving grace. I T's I done independent films. I'd done some vampire movie here in Hollywood is pretty awesome And lemony SNICK..

"I'm Leonard Maltin Best Laws. Yeah forget anything we forget anything. We can always pause this leave this we have to leave this and so the people know that how welcoming you are saying. I think that's good all right. Then you know what we will lead done that no you shooting you. Bring Innovation Walk in the room That's I don't know who you are but you walk in the room. Well I I like it because you start. You introduced yourself. I mean I know who you are but you introduce yourself anyway which I think is classy but I feel like you should have introduced you co host I because that would be classier that would be. It wouldn't but I didn't know that I was well I got that's it. That's it all right. Well let's start again. Everybody going going right right. Hi. She's Jesse Maltin Leonard. Maltin yonder apiece. Okay and you're listening to Maltin on movies. Which has already begun yet. No now you're coming late. Yeah Okay. We'll see like this when you were honestly you'd be nitpicky. Did you make you like that? He goes over your homework and stuff without loving neurotic. Ma'am yes I that. Yeah and the other guy. You're listening to is Craig Ferguson. Yes that's right. I am But I knew that Leonard. Yeah I mean I. I wondered a little bit about earlier on in my life but I'm fairly confident I know it now. Well good it sounded. Scottish is your name. Just like Steve Smith or US thought various. Now there's there's a forty overs in Scotland I think yeah I take that But the every year we we fight Title B only want sure that can be only one not yet field that we say Craig in a ridiculous way because something that happens when I am in Scotland if I say craggy goats Craig the to correct me as well no because apparently I've I've been away so long I sound very American Because they'll say oh I see well I think you do understand. You're just being mean to me. Goes up correctly. No it's I don't think I particularly American I know I'm Gonna I I can assure you but I think it changes a if I'm honest I think when I'm when I'm talking to someone on television WHO's very American or who I don't know I probably get a little more mid Atlantic I think part of it is just slowing down. Yes that's it is it is but when you go on that sometimes you get Scottish. People that are numbly so the go some way for me. Sometimes people in Scotland who are a bit mumbling. That's quote good. Are you okay? Are you wear many of us? Many of US Americans who consider ourselves reasonably worldly Don't know what the hell you guys are saying. Look I know you're reasonably lured Lisa. You you will. Understand is a concept. Sometimes people. In different countries talk differently but not while allegedly conversing the same language the same language. I think that that's that's what people I think is the same language or accent of the same line. We just know it's a different language but it's written the same. Cantonese and Mandarin. It's written the same but it sounds different and it's spoken differently. Scott English is not English. It's Scott Scott It's a different language but I tell my parents that my own personal rule is you're only allowed to say what three times and this is specifically went into taxicab right when the guy says something in you go- I'm sorry what you get three and then you give up. Because you're care they'll say hey end and then you're saying my favorite always is getting into attacks because it happens most with taxicabs they here they go. Are You American? I say yeah they go. I knew it and I WANNA say well. Yeah Yeah. You're not special. Because I sound about Eric Tritium in route of themselves that they've sorted out like you know what if this brings you joy I'm okay. I think it's fine but I. I would question the wisdom in judging a nation based on its taxi drivers in America. I don't know maybe there's more to America than just the guys driving the caps. Well I mean no disrespect to cab. Drivers don't know the the the only poignant part of that is that there used to be a living stereotype in New York City. Where I'm from the New York cabdriver. Yes and you see him caricatured and lots and lots of old movies and he was typically from Brooklyn yet and it was a he not as she slept during World War Two right when because of the labor shortage in ladies. Go to dry. If he's got to drive a world more time to let them vote so I missed that that prototypical New York way. You're going pal. Let's do it all. Righty he went the way of the New York Delicatessen. Waiter dead SPEC- yet. What do you want to eat? Well mumbling that's mumbling New York Delicatessen. Right right grumbling before we lose the the tiniest thread of of a through line here We just WanNa make it clear that Craig has visited us today in part partly probably because he just loves being in the San Fernando Valley. I have to say is one of America's great national treasures. It should be a national park from Zita All the way along Burbank Boulevard up to Panorama city and down to the. Oh boy. It's just beautiful. It sure is and more beautiful. Now that you've joined us that while as a bit Resi if you've been if you've been missing seen Craig on a regular basis you can now go to comedy dynamics which is housing a six part. Oh Yeah you have serious and then I was like Oh yeah yeah yeah. You're doing hoping Hobo fabulous fabulous ads on Amazon and I tunes and crackle and Bingo and Zippy in whatever the hell people are watching the ready or whatever it is if I understand correctly from what little I got to see so far a hybrid of documentary and stand up special. Yeah well I was doing. I was on the road and I had written this standup act. The I I give myself a rule before I wrote with my right and partner Joe Bolton and we we give ourselves a rule before we wrote it that we would write an hour and a half to two hours of standup material that would have no politics at all non zero. And because we done I just as stylistic experiment more than an analysis if we could do we did do it but but but because we are south that task it came by its very nature very kind of intimate show because we mind my past and my stories in my life for material and so in order to put that kind of shoe into a special. I didn't want to cut it down to an hour. I didn't want to cut it down so that it would wherever streaming service 'cause they always say and we can't have it really more than sixty five minutes and stuff like that so. I thought well rather than do that. I'll try and I'll spread and try and create an intimacy that the television viewers don't usually get with stand up special which will see backstage and see on the Boston. Meet the family and see the evolution of material and I have a joke changes from one town to the next time and stuff like that and it kind of you know. It's an experiment and I'm not quite sure. How Tornado sometimes with an experiment. You invent penicillin and sometimes you know you just make a bad smell and I think it's it's somewhere between a bad smell and penicillin. I HOPE CLOSER TO PENICILLIN. But you never really know. It's a stand you entry astonishment Yeah that's what I'm going to go. Yeah it's funny because I I don't because I've I've made it no because it's it's about making a film Mike The you make it and when it's done it's done and I and I'll know how I feel about it in about ten years You know and then I'll think well. Yeah that worked or didn't and whatever anybody even if people say it works people say it doesn't work now. I wouldn't know how I feel about it until ten years from now Yeah it's weird is like the historian. Neil Ferguson WHO's no relation to my knees much too smart to be an actual blood relation. But he says that history begins about one hundred after hundred years after the event when you can actually be objective and I think when when it's a little bit like that that you about ten years after you go. Yeah that was good. That's why I think you see filmmakers who are affectionate for movies. That flopped yet. They don't care because they look at it ten years ago. I don't care that flopped. I made a movie in two thousand which flip terribly by love that movie. Which is the big tease. The movie about the hairdresser about Scottish hairdresser that comes to La and it was a complete financial disaster. But I really good phone. Yeah great thanks. I liked that movie. It's a kid movie. Yeah I think so too it just it just. It's funny. Sometimes things catch fire become fashionable. And sometimes they don't sometimes just crab remained crapping. The you know you don't really know. Well that's why we hate the The term instant classic. I hated most. I've seen it's not. It's not real. I know I know that people take a lot of license With words now yes spell stupid. People have land to type accurate grammars mass. Fine fine fine fine but there are certain things that just cannot be like jumbo shrimp. An instant classic you cannot moronic version of an oxymoron. Yes you know. It has to be at least ten years. Yeah he's ten years at ten. You can start to say it's a classic also the thing is it's like my my the example was used for in books it's Moby Dick and in movies. It's night of the Hunter Moby Dag. Herman Melville dives thinking. That was a was a giant failure. you know the risk is like a now? That's a classic American literature or the night of the hunter. Which is you know the only movie that Charles Lawton directed yeah. It was a total failure at the time But now they're they`re. They're guys walking around with love and hate tattooed on their knuckles. Don't even know the derivation right from. Yeah and and it's it's kind of. It's really interesting because you lose. That movie is such a favorite of movie geeks. Now who were probably the same people that was of savaged? At the time I it really is kind of interesting to watch that. It's like time adds a very odd thing Quality to any form of our I think. And it gives a reverence. Sometimes it deserves and sometimes it doesn't like see the morning light. When you go see the Mona Lisa Paris? You'll let everybody come on. Admit it you go largely because it's just not very big. I think that's part of it. I remember as a little kid going to the Statue of Liberty for the first time in thinking. It's not that big no the Statue of Liberty. The I was impressed by that but I was. I saw that coming from Scotland when I was thirteen..

Good where so did heroin and cocaine and I didn't do ecstasy because it wasn't invented David. Okay he's not weird. Did acid but I didn't. There was other dogs like math. Yeah heroin heroin. Cocaine did more than heroin. But I always thought cocaine was kind of like a vitamin. Yeah it stopped you black. So you're we're still an asshole but you remembered it and you knew who to avoid the full days weeks drinking remember. You could walk into a bar. And saying I'm paraphrasing about It's Nice not drinking. I could leave the party early or at least with no regrets yet. I think it's such a perfect line for over twenty years now. Oh why still attained you sobriety. I do not in that way. No I don't go meetings all alright. Well if you need a cult I one hundred kidding. Please hundred percent kick to show gratitude to you fucking sooner lead a degree hundred anyway. I thought that was to me that line resonated quite a bit to me it would be every time after party. As did you ever do the The cocaine's I didn't do anything I drink not even marijuana I just I just took a very religious person. Okay I had one thing this is going to and and I'm GonNa talk on both sides of my mouth about following the law and so everything was illegal except drinking. Now that said I would drive home from the Improv to the valley hammered out of my ahead yet. That's that's breaking the law dangerous like I never drove when I was on heroin. But you can't earn provide all curled up where I park mark. I know I don't WanNa give the impression. I was a junkie. I wasn't do drugs if they were around. I had no problem with it but I think the difference Tuna Junkie in an alcoholic. Why there's a number of differences but one is if I'm in a bar and somebody says hey I've got heroin? I'd be like great. Let's do it but if I'm in a bar somebody says hey. Do you WANNA go over to this. Guy Says he's go here and not be like the bars open Right well he'll errands while if he's got any kind of entrepreneurial spirit fucking bar and say here. I don't know leaving a bar on the off chance. There's heroin right and that's I think makes me good old-fashioned alcohol. Yeah whereas junkie would leave the bar looking for the hand. Let's go. Yeah so that's just choices that you would have. Because you're powerless over the substance. This kicking your ass. Yeah I think so dude you. Oh are any of your tattoos and you don't have to answer any of them cover ups for where you would never did. I never show anything. How would you do? Heroin is seen as to how how to shoot. You don't put it in your between your toes. You know you can snorter you can look. I feel I snorted like you're the king of the scene movies the Mr Drugs. I've never done it either but I've seen movies what we used to do. Coach chasing the Dragon. And you get a little Straw and silver For I don't want to actually instruct you. Inhale the smoke of it. You know movies to cook it. He'll guess it's it's you know. There are many ways and I'm glad I didn't you know inject Taryn because I only time I read that. Tehran was in New York in the nineteen eighties. Now I don't know if you know that was a huge disease Aziz attached to it yes I was like well yeah. Did you hear about that. I did hear about it back soon yes. Luckily that's all cured all disease. Shur her comedy scared no matter what does he run your community. Oh Yeah Junkie. Okay goes hair I gotta say I like your hair because it's okay. If I mentioned your color of your were were. Kansas secret is a all right. So it's blue hair and whenever I was looking for I was looking for school for my kids when they were a young I would always look if there were no kids with blue hair in the skill and like going really enjoy seeing the kids with the hair because if they were accepted there are kids with blue hair. School's going to be okay. Yeah but you kind of go along with that. Yeah that's a good rule right. There's Shows creativity uniqueness individuality accepted okay. You've got two kids two boys and Milo is your oldest. Yeah and he is what I'm going to say. Eighteen yet to me is like you'd nobody he is I am I right. Yeah then I hang on. I'm going to say Liam yes is and I'm just GonNa Guess Because I met Liam at your house once right but I'm gonNA guess he's now nine. Whoa this is freaky wait? Am I right about any of that. Yeah you're totally. Right remark handyman. His thumbs are intact. I've never been more excited about gasoline. Rights I have many kids do have one and H. He's twelve so you're just about to begin the teenage adventure. Yes thirteen dollars to people. Pro China China. Scare you about your kids when they're not wasn't that bad it based on what I know about your children about my focused and the other one's very cool I think my son Oliver is GonNa be I just as cool. I don't see him. Something would have to go really wrong for him to then change his personality and tell fuck myself and then go a whole different path exactly exactly and Liam who's nine has already told me to go fucking. I think you have if it's GonNa Happen. It happens Lavigne's early but I I was. I felt sympathetic. 'cause I think being a teenage teenager is very difficult But he was he was very cool and he rolled design me a few times during that period but he seems quite happy now and he's in call Egion. It's like I miss. You miss him like crazy. And you're like you wouldn't. I believe we were just talking yesterday. My friend Kyle and I about We know somebody who They are living BICOASTAL and the wife and kids are in New York and in this person's here for business. I six months at a time and then they go. We facetime every Sunday for like. If I didn't get to touch my son I and I don't mean that in a weird way. Yeah just the contact like every day. I don't know what I would do. Yeah it's I wouldn't be able to do that. I mean you know sometimes you got air and eleven and I'm I'm sympathetic but I couldn't do that. I mean even leg on this tour that I was that film for that thing you know I. It's built also the two weeks and then I go home home for two weeks NABUCCO and then I couldn't stay away from my kids for too long as bad. It's bad sounds like a moral judgment is I. Just I don't mean just. I'm glad I don't have to do yes. I agree with that and I'm with you. I understand it. You have to make a living. If that's how it's gotta be for now Sofia but I don't I know that I would just have an emptied not in my stomach nausea. It'd be around. My son was interesting is I was talking to someone the other day. The I asked me why I ended up doing the late night show because I'd been working on independent movies and doing bits and pieces and I had a kind of ECLECTIC career a life that was somewhat autistic but very nomadic Outta town your time for six weeks in the movie or your way someone else doing something and what I what I was going through the time that late night turned up. I was going through a divorce which I don't know if you've ever done that didn't very expensive very very expensive hobby and you're talking to a guy that likes to fly. Airplanes and divorce is more expensive okay airplanes and and my son was young. Milo was young. He was only two. I thought I need a job that pays really well and I don't don't leave town and that day when I thought my agent called me up and they're trying to people actually night show union interested in a ship. I was like yes. Yes yes I right. I've never wanted a job as bad my life as that one I I mean I I was on time hair combed. I was whatever I needed to get that GIG. Did you get it no. Oh Jeez crushing. I've been out of time to make an independent movies any years. That's a shame there's other things that will happen al.. I'm fun my Of course I had the pleasure being on the late late. Remember that said he has said there was I will say my late night set. I don't think yeah you good And it was the vibe in the room was great. That's why I know you guys went through that phase that I am. I don't mind me saying this now that you would sometimes tape six comics in one setting optimum episodes right. That's I refuse to do that. I do it. I'm going to do it as I want him to introduce me right. Want him to walk over and shake my hand when I'm done. No that meant. You didn't do it until we were in the studio. I can't answer that. I don't know this is what happened with the reason we did. That was no. There's a reason for that okay. So it wasn't that wasn't trying to be an asshole to the comex. Would it was was the studio radio. We met for the first seven years. We were doing the show. The studio is so small that my desk and a comedian couldn't get in at the same time so in order the shooter comic we had to move the desk the way and shoot it make it look like there was the assay wasn't so we the so that was why why we didn't have comedian. Walking over and shaking the comedians interesting and then we moved to the bigger studio. It was easier so because it was right there. You could walk over and look when did I do. I WANNA say two thousand ten that would be right is that that would be right so you. You didn't just take overkill. Mourns Space I did. Yeah well well. He had room for the comic and the desk. How big is your desk? You look at the thumbs. Yeah you call me. I lied to you. There's a lot of bullshit. NAB is a fucking lie. No it's not a lie. It's Nice not ally we used to pre-tape a lot of common. Yeah and it was to do with moving the desk but I don't know how kilborn did it but I did it on his desk..
