News coming out of Mexico says that Senator Xochitl Galvez will be getting the opposition coalition's presidential nomination versus a yet -to -be -named candidate from the ruling party of Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador. Galvez knocked out another opposition candidate, Senator Beatriz Paredes, who's stepping down from the race. Lopez Obrador, though his popularity is hovering around 60 percent right now, which gives his ruling party a very good chance to retain power in the election. Now, taking a look at global sports, you want to talk a about see -saw battle ongoing right now in the second round of the U .S. Dominican Republic investigators have now gotten another complaint from another female against Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wanda Franco in terms of engaging in relationships with a minor. I'm Dan Schwartzman. That's your Bloomberg News and World Sports Update. Back to Doug. you All right Danny thank you. Let's get another view on what's happening in the Chinese economy. Peter Cheer is the head of macro strategy at Academy Securities. He was on Bloomberg's surveillance earlier today discussing the economy in China and the geopolitical risk as they kind of linger over the market. Here's Cheer in conversation with Bloomberg's Tom Kean, Kaley Lyons and Jonathan Farrow. I'm not really worried about domestic inflation. I think we're seeing enough slowing down both in the goods and the services market. Inflation is not going to be domestically generated. It's going to be something happens with India or China. That could set us off that way. So I'm kind of into an inflection Right point. now I'm very comfortable. Yields lower, down below 4%, good for stocks. As they go much lower, weak for stocks. Then we'll see how the data plays out. Peter, overlay on this the geopolitical matrix. Academy is acclaimed for putting a geopolitical tinge on my investment. Is it steady as she goes or do I need to worry about geopolitics in the next year? I think we need to worry about certainly what's going on with Russia. Putin clearly showed his hand when he was willing to kill the person who went against him. So don't forget what's going on between Russia and Ukraine. But for us the real story is still China. I think people are underestimating China's desire to start selling their own goods, their own brands, and possibly denominated in Yuan, mostly to emerging markets countries. And when we sit here and examine China today, they are clearly experiencing trouble. They're going to do some things to fix that, but I think it's going to have to be pushing their brands globally. Well, Peter, to your point on China, I was really struck by the research that came out in the last 24 hours by our own team here at Bloomberg Economics talking about China's property sector as being both too big to fail and too big to save. They say the government, could the government step in and rescue the sector when looking at the options, it suggests the load would be too heavy to bear. Is China in a now to flex on anything? That's a great question. So we're looking at China as I think they are going to cram down on the rip. So I think as this property sector resolves itself, they're going to try and protect what's left of the middle class And it's going to hurt the rich. But I think those are all relatively weirdly short term problems. The real problem that they face right now is one, no one really wants to produce in China, right? People are moving their production out of China. That is not going back. It's political. It's too long term. So they're not going to be this factory of the world any longer. And they're clear that one Chinese customers don't consume the way American customers consume. So their ability to develop a real domestic economy is weak. They're going to have to support that with the housing market or the real estate market there so people can spend. But they are going to have to look to selling their brands offshore. That's the only way they're going to be able to produce enough goods to keep people employed. And I also worry, and I think our geopolitical team always cautions us, right? When things are good in China, they are less likely to flex their political or military muscle. As their economy weakens, they can do something like that, just like we saw Putin do. Well Pete, bad folks do bad things. Well it's not going to be that, but look for them maybe to flex their muscle in some other regions of the world where people care less. Look for them to continue to expand through their Belt and Road initiative more access to ports, more access to these countries who are failing pay to on that, and I think you're going to start hearing more and more trade occurring in Yuan. That's something people kind of, I feel in our denial because we're getting a lot of anecdotal evidence when we talk to companies, they're being pressured to do some contracts in Yuan. It's very small, mostly isolated emerging

"At the winter classic at Fenway Park, the Boston Bruins scored two third period goals, both by Jake de brusque to defeat the Pittsburgh penguins two to one. De brass first goal came 7 46 into the third and tied it at one. The second of the period in the game winner came with just two 24 left in regulation. I think it was actually just one of those things where it was just happened probably at a ten second time frame. I can't really remember. I mean, I remember being on the ground and seeing it in, but definitely was lucky on that one and happy to contribute. In net for the bruins, Linus Olmert made 25 C's and kept the bruins undefeated in regulation at home. Great cadets, Boston.

"He's got his thing where he can be very, very intense and really get into a song. I love the fact that they don't do their set list until like an hour before the show. So the band doesn't really know what they're going to play, you know, he's the one that leads them in and he comes out. If you've ever seen pearl jamming concert, he'll walk out with either a notebook or a little suitcase or a bunch of cardboard under a zombie where he actually lays it out where he literally has some of the words handwritten in front of him. The other thing that I think is cool is that not afraid to play covers, especially of his heroes, whether it's Iggy Pop or whether it's a big, big, big, big hoof fan, or the dead boys, I love that. Every show he's always got a bottle of wine. I think in his rider, when they go out on tour, that he has to have, you know, three or four bottles of like top shelf barolo wine. And he'll kill a bottle of wine up on stage. For the end of the show. And the ever present bottle of wine. Yeah. Yeah. You know, at the end of almost every show when they do a live, he comes out with the, you know, the tambourines and he's chucking them out in the audience. When I saw him at Fenway, one of the cool things that he did was he ran out to the front of the state. So he's in Fenway Park and I know he did the same thing that he was when he was at Wrigley. And he had a baseball glove. He had his baseball glove in a ball, and he was throwing it into the audience. He was literally playing catch. With people at Fenway Park, which was, which was kind of cool. Eddie van is a great front man, you know, used to do the whole, you know, climbing up the scaffolding and falling into the crowd and stage diving and all that stuff. Then they get old. Yeah. Yeah, he doesn't do a lot of that type of jumping anymore. But if you give that. Go ahead, I'm sorry. I was just going to say if you've never seen Pearl Jam live. You will find Eddie Vedder mesmerizing. Yeah, I've seen them, yeah. Me and Phil Kelly, I believe, saw them. Phil Kelly would have made a great front man. And they'll kill the great wingman. There was no better wingman that Phil Kelly. Jim Hurley is a good wingman. It feels a great wig man too. He still doesn't want the attention. It was always the guy. Push you to the front. He just likes to be calling the shots from behind the scenes. Pulling the strings. I have a quick list, I want to get this over because I know you probably want to go by now. And there's actually one thing I wanted to touch on. So give me another ten minutes, but you've got two. I'm not in any rush.

Matt and I always say like, whenever we have a kid, would you like to have, I can't even imagine what it's like to have a kid and how much you love your kid. When we love our dog this much, it's like, oh God, we're doomed. We have kids. It's like there's not that much love to exist. So freaking cute. Yes, I love following you guys putting up posts of your puppy. Again, being a huge dog lover, I love seeing how much you guys do love your dog and how much you share with the social media world. Aside from just baseball season, we will switch on over to the 2021 Red Sox season because of course I want to touch upon the All-Star Game. I know that both you and Matt attended it. How was the 2021 season for you? I know Chelsea and I actually bumped into each other. I was at Fenway. I forget when probably back in September or October, because obviously it was at the end of Ryan's baseball season. But we were at Fenway Park, bumped into each other. I know you didn't get to spend as much time going to games as you would have liked to because you were still working. I believe in Connecticut, but I'm sure you got to do a lot of traveling, nonetheless. Yeah, so the season was awesome. Matt had an amazing first half right out of the gate. "Is the validation finally of an inflation widely anticipated as we just heard from Ira Jersey I just looked up Michael Barr I looked up Fenway Park 1991 you know a cheaper seat was $12 Yeah The family could go for you know you were living large $60 all in on tickets And a beer was an $8000 And you're against lager beer was three 25 and that was rich That was and you could go to the ballpark for you know 200 bucks big time Hundred bucks We threw in good souvenirs Now the Uber's 200 years Everything is a lot And this is the cost of living that we're dealing with now especially in sports you see it all the time where just souvenirs or food at the ballpark is high And kudos to the concession stands because yes they have to make a living too but you know it's still a lot Here's the issue We're talking about inflation in the near term and certainly saw 5 year break-even rates rise to the highest in the records going back to 2002 But there is nothing better to correct prices that are going too high than high prices Because people buy fewer She's out of the 70s But hold on a second So if that's the case is Ira Jersey portraying the right kind of picture when he says that the market's pricing can stimulation This is the reason why right Because it naturally slows growth If we get wage inflation that changes the whole picture I think it is the smartest thing I've ever leases what you said And I think the chairman Powell knows is the percentage of people that have never experienced this is not to be underestimated Yeah Michael bar and I this is like you know been there done that Yes You should have seen Michael barred driving a VW diesel in the 70s He's great He's so got it I will say though I mean so since you've seen it before does that make it any easier for you Or does that mean No It could go The word here is pernicious And a lot of people are rationalizing away from a pernicious effect I think for fancy people it's going to be tuition but for people that aren't that fancy I'm sorry.

"Here are the numbers on Gerrit Cole at Fenway Park this year. One and two, 6, 19 ERA. He has allowed 5 home runs at Fenway this year, and he has a 1.63 whip. Those are not good. No, and I think that's got to be really encouraging. That's got to be really encouraging if you're the Red Sox. And if you go back, he made one start in each year 1718 and 19 that first start, he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. That next start two and 6, the 2019 start he was actually good. He allowed no runs through 5 innings but he did allow 6 hits. So not his favorite ballpark to pitch in. No. And in pitching so mental, right? And I think when you know you have no margin for error like this in this one game playoff, that's the kind of thing that can sneak into somebody's head. And I don't, look, I haven't watched every start Garret Cole has ever made. But I've watched him in some big games when I watch him. He's a very good pitcher. He does one of the best. He does seem like a guy that if things start going wrong, it can snowball for mentally. He doesn't seem like the most mentally tough. You know, he doesn't have that killer instinct that you sometimes see for maces. So if that, if Ben was in his head and the Red Sox get to him early, they could potentially make it a long day for him. Or short day, depending on how you look at it. Yeah, I mean, I just think it's pretty fascinating that Aaron Boone decided to go with Garrett Cole, but I mean, again, in all fairness to these managers, they had to make some decision based on the next couple of days. Without knowing how Sunday was going to unfold, right? I mean, they had to have their best picture ready in a one game playoff. And whether or not he's done well at Fenway Park, you ask Aaron Boone, that probably immaterial at this point. We just expect our best players to rise to the top and that's what they're going to expect out of Garrett Cole. And I think when you look at the Yankees pitching staff too, I mean, yeah, he hasn't been great at Fenway Park, but who else are you going to trust? Most of the guys have an ERA around four, four and a half. Who are you going to go to in that game, even with the splits at Fenway Park, do you feel better about? I still think he's their best option. All things considered. I don't need to come out and say, oh, they're idiots for pitching them, but it is something you have to consider. If you're the Yankees, and you're up by one run, you're going to tell me you're going to trust a rolled as Chapman, right?.

"I don't know if that's going to happen again, and I don't know if they're going to be able to keep him long term, reusing ID he's probably going to slide backwards, Steven Matz is probably a slider. I don't know if they have pitching prospects who I necessarily feel confident in stepping immediately into the rotation and being dominant. It is possible, this is the best of Blue Jays will ever be. I don't know, you know, I don't think so. I think the offense is only getting better. But the rays aren't going anywhere. The Red Sox aren't going anywhere. I think the Red Sox have a solid core and a good group of positional prospects. And they could use some long-term pitching fixes too. But put an offense like that in Fenway Park they're going to score a lot of runs they're going to win a lot of games. The 80s aren't going to go anywhere either. No matter how pessimistic you want to be about them. And the Orioles aren't even close to any of those four teams. So you are going to have this baked in in here and Orioles advantage the Red Sox have taken advantage and the Yankees haven't. And so now the ignorant Red Sox are just separated by a couple of games and everything hinges on this weekend series. I'm gonna go prediction, you know, I don't like doing this because I usually am pessimistic and I'm also usually wrong. I do think the 80s are gonna win two out of these three games. And they're gonna lose the fried in that game..

"How many times can you name the yankees How many games can you recall where they had a lead. In the ninth at fenway park recently recent history and lost only recent history. You got this one last night. Three one pretty bad very bad. Twenty seventeen year old is chapman walked the bases-loaded and blew a one run lead and they eventually got walked up. Andrew benintendi remember that very clearly 2016. They blew like a four nothing lead in its anarchist start and hanley. Ramirez walked off with a three run home. Run to dead center field. That happened two thousand eighteen. The three run lead in the ninth mcginlay do it with the throwing error the it and then eventually they got walked off. Of course they did. I mean that's four since two thousand sixteen fairly confident. That's not all of them didn't happen last year. There were no fans. Gary sanchez actually came back. In the ninth against the red sox. They'll storm the capital said screaming disrupt our democracy. That's okay zero arrests. No coverage no big deal but when people did it on january six it was. What do they call it. The worst Active political civil war of eighteen. Twelve worse than nine eleven. It's comical and it's all by design. i'm not sure someone like mara gaye or or max boot knows. They're being used by the current administration. But they are they're being told. This threat is the worst thing we've ever faced. And they don't after fill in the blanks. They don't have to explain it. Just just one with its worst. Market is just. She's just elite progressive. She you know runs in the corners of the elite. She hangs out in beautiful places in manhattan so once in a while has to drive through long island where she might happen upon imprisoning or visiting where the at friend visiting in that's noble. I went mega country. Oh yes there's a riot friend. I was doing something selfless. Just so you know y- and but she's you know you have every year you have the people of amherst massachusetts trying to get rid of the flags on the down in the city streets of amherst because its imperialist in its intimidating and scary and it's hurtful this is like she's a tiny niche tiny mitch. Who only has her anecdotal experiences to talk about. What's ridiculous in stelter is scarborough just sits there and takes it and she's talking about whiteness. Whiteness meco i believe is a jamaican part jamaican part. Haitian make us as. Oh i agree with everything you said. I mean this this brainless old. White woman's they're going out this white privilege such a problem area. We gotta do about it. I watch your step down. Let someone else sit next to your hubby or get rid of him to when you want you give him the gig anyway. It's just it just madness and always wonder wheel. Everyone wonders what next. What's the next extreme thing. I mean today. You know you watch Biological boys just beat the crap out of biological girls on the playing field and track or basketball and you say how do we get to that point. You know twenty years thirty years ago. This is insane. Kids girls used to matter. Now girls are are are just collateral damage to advance this radical progressive agenda. And it's just like people Think it's a human rights for yes gender girl to beat up on girls We intend fifteen twenty years that the flag will be no different than the confederate flag. Also jerry you're right but who also who cares about the confederate flag who cares wants to do is it hurtful at all. I mean you know my ancestors were probably in the union civil war maybe they were killed by confederate. Who cares. it's just a frigging flag. It's you know it was. It was on the generally and dukes of hazzard okay converted wasn't right. It was on which one of the lincoln project guys had. A cooler was at risk. I can confirm that right now. Of course which explanation expletives again again. This is one of the most powerful people in america. One of the most privilege she clearly. She doesn't even know what we've already gone over the fact that she struggles in math. But now we're talking. English expletive expletives when she say explicatives explicatives still biden and again in scarborough and mika brzezinski. And you know what this anything that does to hate. It's white privilege shetik. Joe joe and mika brzezinski barnacle and willie guys state white privilege. They're tired of it. They want to end up anyway by the way it. We shouldn't inexplicable against job. Rydin be welcome. He's a white guy. Married to a white woman of privilege lives in a mansion with two german shepherds. One of whom is very violent and he has a son the s Six grandkids actually seven. But one of them was with a stripper so he doesn't counter. That's what kind of guy he is. Don't count the strippers kid. Even though it's get anyway let's get back to mara. gaye She says expletives joe biden. Okay just give me example again. I'm writing in the margins on the Good good little anecdote. Tell me some examples. What does the science say. What is the bumper sticker. Say secondly does anyone believe. She saw dozens of pickup trucks. With trump flags or biden expletives. Does anyone believe that anyone show of hands. Do you believe that there are some places in the long island at our big first responder communities where you could you could see some explicatives trucks. And they could have been a gathering right. I've seen a gathering before So we go from that. It's like when my old friend that chelsea handler was up in my neighborhood main and said she was out and saw hundreds of confederate flags and i called her on. It didn't hear back but just a flat out lie of been going in that place for twenty five years and never seen one not one. There are no confederate flags where she was staying zero by the way trying to buy a house up here. Which is what you do if you thought you were. Surrounded by white supremacists klansmen. You say i wanna buy a house and live there forever. but anyway it's ally mara gays. Lying jussie handled was lying but worse than that is her reaction to see american flags america. Can you imagine. I was put it to the to the grandfather testing. Your you know your grandfather or father hearing that that people are disturbed by seeing the american flag. I mean against a couple of days after d day. She's she is one of the most privileged people in america. She's dummy and she's on the new york times editorial board. I'm going to guess making which you say. Two hundred to two hundred and fifty thousand plus more go on. Msn probably make an esp hundred and something thousand a year. And she doesn't know how to say expletives or doesn't know that michael bloomberg doesn't have enough money to give a million dollars every american. She's just not right well and also you know in in the in black history. The american flag actually plays a big role. The first black medal of honor winner was william. Carney you know the guy from boston who went it was it was saving the flag when he got shot again and again and again and again and again and didn't even let the flag touch the ground. The guy was left for dead. Essentially he was a union soldier from the civil war but he did it for the flag. You know the this euro entire monuments about the about this guy tuskegee airman. They're all patriots. Have you ever interviewed any of these guys. I did for the herald. It was a highlight of my career. There they're all patriotic. They all fly the flag to how many what percentage of this country red states or blue think. Seeing the american flag is disturbing it. I mean that is bizarre opinion to think that you're an american you got it made. Your you are living a life of privilege. Mara gaye and the american flag on long island is disturbing you. Do we have any more from the brilliant. The talented mara gaye. I own until we're ready to have that conversation. This is going to continue. What really is concerning to me as well as it's not just democrats in congress. I think there's a large percentage of americans even my colleagues in journalism who are invested in some way in pretending that this isn't the better it is that is the real concern because you know the trump voters who are not going to get on board with democracy there a minority you can marginalized them long term. But if we don't take the threat seriously that i think we're all in really bad shape noticed every says i agree with everything you said but anyway everything. She's a total right. You wanna full a push and say what threat what are you talking about. I understand why biden's doing it while he's lying to the country line to the world's biggest threat is white. Supremacist on a weekend. Where sixty three people were shot including child in chicago which is going to know that number will be close to that again next weekend where there are anti fa scum burning buildings every night destroying businesses old blocks in minneapolis. A rubble never to return our biggest threat. Is i wish. I had a name like you say david duke. But everyone knows he's a cut to has no wields. No power has no influence. I mean you're supposed to say the viking man who still jail getting is organic food earth. Carlson say his name her. You know what you're probably right. If they pinned her down said give you name. It would be cost and laura ingram. Greg gut failed and has tucker carlson based on jerry replacement theory right another nuanced pie in the sky thing. That's not tangible in an argument replacement ohio. We see now what she says. It was such confidence in this. Five people in the panel. No one calls route. Known presses are that's the media today just one big echo chamber talking about the threat the threat to threaten. You want to say what are you talking about. What is the threat. Let me know so. I can be concerned. I want to be prepared. What threat that whiteness rowlands. It'll never ever ever happen again in your lifetime. "That's that would make hidden spending less money than he was on the campaign brian williams and she agreed that may did the math. Every person three hundred thirty million people he could give a million dollars to. That's how dumb this person is. But she's checks all right boxes so she's one of the most powerful people in the media and this is her analogy. I don't even know what the question was colonnade. Because she just goes off on this tangent on all the troubles of the world and weighty here what really concerned her over the weekend a large percentage of the american population. I don't know how big it is. But we have tens of millions of trump voters who continue to believe that they're right citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others. I think as long as they see americanise as the same as one with whiteness. This is going to continue what we're smart guy. Can you explain that as long as they think. America is one with whiteness. Would like me. I mean obviously. This is joe scarborough. He's a moron and meek. Mika when this is over says i agree with everything you said. Can you help me. What does that mean. You see america as the same as whiteness. I manifest. i don't know that. Means the gravitate towards judeo christian values. Maybe is that what it is Nuclear families you think of america's a place where you could raise a family and you believe in the american dream based on your privilege you know so you can make it as a writer for a big paper and then get into sports. Talk radio because you were handed a bunch of privileges for this person. Who's on the editorial board. Probably make couple hundred grand to who's dumb as a rock and she is saying that if you are white like you and me be doing this little. Podcast we're privileged. She's not also saying that. Tens of millions of trump voters who are upset at the fact that they have to share certain rights with the rest of the country. I don't even know what what the hell is his if you were if you were in school nisa an oral report or written reports say okay. Right here teaches grading and she put a little land and on sale via examples examples. Yes does that manifest itself the white people who think who societas americanise with whiteness. What do you mean. And if she and you gotta write anything besides january six question mark where people are being punished like committed murder for trespassing yank. They don't feel like they've privileged or they don't feel like they're getting away with anything. Kimmy examples Well get mara gaye. You're right you would figure in any kind of real dissertation. You'd have to provide citation for what you mean. So these trump voters fields disaffected. How where's the number. How does it manifest itself exactly where justice by saying then but they don't have to justify any premise. They can just say the premise there and the justification is white supremacy right that that's as much as deep as the answer has to be in the fact that you question it just proves white supremacy and by the way this is a woman who one hundred percent supports eight seventy eight year old white guy former close friend of robert byrd. Who said if you don't vote for him you ain't black and who said that the poor kids are just as smart as white kids. Who's set him hundred. How to get every american. A place at the table in this democracy but how to separate american ness america from whiteness until we can confront that and talk about that. This is really going to continue. I was on long island this weekend. Visiting a willingness dear friend and i was really disturbed. I saw you know.
