"So back in mid august there was a big debate within the administration over whether people needed cove in nineteen vaccine booster shots and that debate led up to a big meeting between the nation's top public health officials. Cdc director rachelle lewinsky. You had evac murphy. Who's a surgeon general. You had representatives from the white house. Cdc fda preparedness response and their job essentially was to all kind of come to a consensus on recommendation. Would americans need booster shots or not. And how exactly do you roll that out. The one person who is not involved in that discussion was hhs secretary. Hobby are bizarre and the reason that that stood out is that he is the number one health official in the country. He is joe. Biden's hell secretary. He runs the eighty thousand person department of health and human services which is essentially responsible for ending the corona virus pandemic. I'm jeremy siegel. This is politico dispatch and today. A madame cancun. I'm a healthcare reporter here. Politica adam kane grin on a question central to the federal corona virus response where is. Hhs secretary havi air. This has been a pattern where the structure. That's kind of emerged is that there's a team at the white house right. That leads the covert response and they've been working in many cases directly with subordinates. At hhs so the cdc director the head of the food and drug administration people within hhs senior officials who are doing a lot of the daily day to day policy work a and b. Sarah has been involved in some things right. He has been briefed regularly but he has not been hands on deep into that day to day. Work trying to end the pandemic and that's been consistent across his first six months in office here. I imagine you talked to sarah in your reporting tried to talk to him. We did we did. What did he have to say about this. Well he had a couple of things to say one you know when i originally approached the white house back in december about what besir israel role was going to be. They said that he was going to quote. Be an empowered leader at the forefront of the code response. I asked him directly i said. Do you feel empowered. And he said absolutely completely and his contention was that one. Hhs as a whole has been at the center of the response has been integral and to a degree. That's that's true. Hhs has been involved. Even if he himself has not been Completely involved day to day. And then i guess the third thing that he said is that he maintained. It wasn't really his job to be making all the policy decisions. Rather his job was to be taking those and translating them into concrete on the ground initiatives. But according to your reporting i mean. He is notably absent from a lot of these high level decisions. High level meetings If he's not there where exactly is he. What is this era doing well. That's that's kind of been. The central question is what underpin this story and it's been a question that people outside and an inside frankly. The administration have had for several months. Now i kind of held off on writing the story for a while. Because i was kind of convinced that lookie had to be doing something. You know a consequence in there that would explain why we have not seen him really out front on the kobe response What i found in my reporting was a couple of things as one. It's not that he's not working. There's a lot of things going on a department. There's a lot of things that needs to be managed day to day but when it comes to the top priorities here for the biden administration. Almost all of that is run and directed out of the white house and not the health department. So you have co vid you have drug pricing. And some of the negotiations happening with congress to try to get their major social spending bill and you have kind of this attempt to chart out what the rest of the health agenda looks like to date. We have not really seen. Sarah take a strong hand in leading those activities. What are the repercussions of this situation. Like does it hurt the federal corona virus response in any way. Does it hurt morale for members of the health department. Like how does this actually play out in real time. Perhaps the main reason that it matters we've seen over the past few weeks month or so. There's been this big debate over booster shots. Who should get them. When should they get them. What the evidence says. And what we've seen. Is the white house really clashing with public health agencies underneath. Hhs so that's the cdc the fda the national institutes of health to degree this disagreement between the white house. That wants to move fast. That wants to make sure it's on top of the pandemic and the cdc and fda scientists who say well wait. Let's make sure that we have all the evidence to make the best possible decision and those disputes in the past few weeks have spilled out into public. We've seen to top vaccine. Fda regulators resign. We've seen a back and forth in public over. Who should be getting these boosters. And whether the white house is decision to announce a booster plan early on was appropriate and what has been lacking in all of that internally is to health secretary and hhs taking a strong role in essentially mediating hope those factions right. The white house for various reasons cannot put direct pressure on cdc and fda otherwise it would look like they were trying to put politics over the science. You hadn't really thought about it until you were mentioning this. The fact that fda and cdc are both part of hhs it totally makes sense but yet does make you think. About how some of these. Open scientific feuds and confusion. We've seen would play out differently if you did have the person at the top of the the department overseeing both fda and the cdc taking a stronger role. Yeah and. I think you're seeing now some signs that hhs is starting to realize. Hey maybe we haven't been as present as we needed to be a earlier this week. We reported that. Hhs had brought on leslie doc. Who worked back in the obama administration. He was an adviser to hillary clinton's twenty sixteen presidential campaign. And he is this well known. Democratic communication specialists in his job for the next several weeks is essentially to fix the communication and policy coordination to come in and make sure that the white house is working better with cdc and fda with hhs right the middle there doing that job. Is there someone who has taken a sort of singular leadership role when it comes to the federal cove response. The clear leader is jeff. Zein's he's the head of the white house krona virus response team and that has been on purpose if you remember back to december when joe biden rolled out his first major health appointments. Yes heavier sarah was there. But jeff designs was also there as well and it was clear that he would lead the response across the government so not just health issues but economic and everything in between at hhs. What we've seen is vivek murthy. Who's a surgeon. General has taken a lead role in communications and messaging and explaining things to the public. And then you've seen cdc director rachelle walinsky taking a big role in explaining the science. That's behind allowed. The decision making that the white house is doing and so between the three of them they have been among the most visible They have been the ones who have appeared probably most often at regular white house. Cova briefings on tv And the only one. I guess i would be remiss to to mention because he is so ubiquitous. Is anthony foudy. Who is a chief medical advisor to biden. He obviously has been leaned on it as a trusted and kind of.

And then they're going to pull a random people to win a hundred and fifty thousand dollars college scholarship. Oh my gosh. And their funding that with all of our tax their their funding it with Covid federal cove relief funds. This is not right. it's so obnoxious you know. How do they get away with that. Get that thing or don't get the thing we don't need a lottery. They're giving out ten million dollars in lottery for residents who get cova vaccine. The ten million include seven million in cash prizes for adults and three million in scholarships for youth distributed through weekly drawings. I don't know when that's to begin So i don't. I don't get the fact that the state governments federal government whatever has the ability to just give out all of this money when we've never been able to do anything dance like infrastructure wise or first of all because the experiences the greatest full stop anyway John de danza. "Are rolling out in America. Things were happening. Good. Things are coming. And you can't lose sight of that, as you heard, even in New York. A lot of nervous people, lot of lefties. Ah, lot of people who hate conservatism. Yeah, they're getting rid of the masks tomorrow. Finally, the mask mandates Boston Fenway Park Gonna be open full capacity, no limitations, no social distancing. Zero deaths in that Neanderthal state of Texas. And in case you don't know the context of that. I'm only saying that to mock Joe Biden, who called it in Neanderthal thinking to do with Texas has been pretty much doing for a long time. And they are a major success story. New York would love to have zero deaths from Cove. It New Jersey would love to have zero deaths from Cove. It California would love to have it and they're going down. Don't lose sight. Don't take your eye off the ball. America is coming back. We've had a long, tough, miserable slogs. Coming back a lot of challenges. We've got to get people back to work. Can't you can't stay home. Also, I'm trying not to be. Ignorant of how many people Are still struggling. Businesses that were wiped out jobs that were gone forever. I don't want to be cruel. But at some point we have to recognize That the The financial windfall of Biden's monetary printing press cannot be sustainable. It can't go on indefinitely. States you're starting to Opt out of the Federal cove in money. Texas did it yesterday. Coming in June. You're going to be cut off. You got to get back to work. You can't stay home. And I'm sorry to say that because I hate that message. I hate to sound like somebody who because I haven't missed one day. I'm very lucky. I'm one of the lucky ones who did not get impacted by Cove. It My team is very lucky. But there are people on our extended team who have struggled. There are people in America for whom this has been a devastating body blow, and I don't want to ignore you. And I'm not We have to face some harsh realities. We also have to face this reality of Biden pushing, pushing, pushing to get everybody vaccinated. And this balance this this sort of this delicate balance between wanting To do what's best for America while protecting our individual liberties and freedoms. We are a free people. I will never open up this microphone and tell you what you should put into your body or what you shouldn't put in your body. That's your that's your decision. The vaccine is your choice. Every time I hear people say you better get the vaccine. You've got to get it back. I cringe. Now. Maybe it works for them. Because people I admire Urging people to get a vaccine. Reverend Franklin Graham. Has been making some TV appearances. The left hates this guy. Fact, remember when he opened up the the mini hospital. In Central Park. They wanted to run him out of town Samaritan's purse. Because of the Christian principles that You know, and the pro family Policies of Samaritan's purse, and the Left didn't like. People donating their medical services, too. Beleaguered New Yorkers. They wanted to run him out of town. What? Oh, wow, let's run Christians out in New York. So Franklin Graham has been in the crosshairs. The never Trumpers hate him because he's been very, very dedicated to President Trump. Although not so much lately, I've noticed He's been pretty critical of President Trump a little bit well, not pretty, but little bit lately, anyway. Here's Franklin Graham essentially urging Christians to get the vaccine yesterday on access on HBO. Program. Nothing's more important to you than saving souls don't want people to know that God loves him. He will forgive you and God will accept you into his presence. I want people to know. Like Colbert, 19 can kill you. We have a vaccine out there that could possibly save your life. And if you wait It could be too late. There's Reverend Franklin Graham saying. Don't wait. It could be too late. Now again, I'm not going to speak for somebody else. I'm not going to criticize Franklin Graham. Just understand. I'm never going to come on this radio show and tell you What you should do. With your body. I'm just not I don't. But I think that's antithetical to what it means to be an American. If we have a government, forcing vaccinations upon people that's not a country that I wanna live in. If we have people shaming and frankly bullying other Americans into getting the vaccine. That's not in America. I like I believe in freedom. Believe in liberty. I believe In people making responsible decisions for themselves. You're allowed to have concerns about the vaccine in America. And two people who don't give you that chance. Don't listen to them. Here's your full beans. Pompous They're elitist. They're arrogant. They're out of touch. One thing I'm take a lot of pride in is knowing. The American people. I've had the benefit of 40 plus years of doing this. Listening to people 20 almost 25 years now in national syndication. So I've been talking to Americans for a long time. I'm like. Maybe some in our business. I listen to you. And I hear you. Now where my Where do you How do you react to.

"To get better because Wisconsin needs to get better at vaccine distribution, according to Beckers Hospital Review. Wisconsin is the ninth worst state in the country in distributing the covert 19 vaccine. According to its data. Last updated on Friday, there have been 577,000 doses of the covert vaccine distributed, but just 238,000 administered 41.3%. That's 42nd. In the nation. According to the state's website. There have been 777,000. Vaccines allocated meaning the state of Wisconsin has available to it right now. 779,800 vaccines. Wisconsin inexplicably has only ordered 473,360 0.7% of the total number. Vaccines allocated Wisconsin. There are 100,100 in transit, which is kind of amazing because every time I check on this, there's about a 100,000 doses that are in transit. There have been 310,256. Doses administered of the cove in 19 vaccine. That's just 65.5%. Of the number ordered now, with 100,000 still interest I wanted. Are they using the Postal Service? Did these get lost in the mail? Because it seems like every day I check on this, there's like 100,000 vaccine doses still in transit. But of the total number of ordered and in transit. Wisconsin has administered just 54.1%. This is abysmal. States like Florida states like West Virginia states with Republican governors. Have administered a far greater percentage and in Florida's case far greater numbers. That's right Producer Dave said Evers had been ripping Trump earlier this year for not getting him enough doses. This is intentional misdirection, and yet again, you're seeing dishonesty that the media in this state is just sort of lapping up from the Evers administration. There's no excuse if you have 779,000 doses. That are available to you. You only you've only got a get it. It's got to be stored. One of the vaccines need to be stored. What we all learned that when the pharmacist decided to just spike Ah, whole bunch of dose. I shouldn't laugh. That's very serious crime. We know that they need to be stored in sub freezing temperatures. So there's a limited number of storage space for these vaccines. But the fact that there's so little That are being administered so little that are actively being stored. And then you've got the administration recognizing yet again that it's failing. Do you realize it took until December 30th to clear the backlog of unemployment insurance claims, and I've actually heard stories from people who say they contacted me. A couple of weeks ago, saying Well, Dan, I'm still waiting. I'm still waiting for my unemployment. I haven't gotten it yet. But the Department of Workforce Development said on December 30th. We have finally cleared the backlog of unemployment claims that's simply unacceptable mismanagement of government There have been a handful of stories, but all Yeah, You know, this is it's tough. We're using antiquated computer systems know what was happening early on in the pandemic is that people who were effectively laid off from their jobs in state government still collecting a paycheck? Of course, we're not being made to be transferred over the Department of Workforce development. Say, Hey, you've got to answer phones. You gotta learn very quickly. This is the most pressing issue we have. Because the government has been locking down the entire state, not allowing businesses to open and yet we're still not able to get people the unemployment insurance that we needed. Wouldn't you know it? Incidentally, Now that Biden has been in office, Do you know what's happening? Every liberal state in the country is saying up. You know what? You know what we really need. Tonto start opening up. California is apparently today going to ease the lockdown restrictions. Governor Gavin Newsom, saying yesterday. Yes, Today we're likely what possible reason could there be California's facing its biggest outbreak since the pandemic began? The only possible reasons. Okay, well, now, now we need the economy to start humming along. The lockdown served their purpose. Speaking of the extended damage from the locked out, and governor Tony Evers. Failures. This from Empower Wisconsin. My buddy Matt Kittle. The Department of Revenue last week quietly issued guidance that ignores Federal Cove in 19 relief legislation language on tax liability. And aims to tax tens of thousands of Wisconsin businesses that received funding through the Pates Paycheck protection program, or P P p. Last year as background when the cares act passed. The P P P was supposed to be a forgivable loan program. So long as you use the money to cover payroll tol a capital expenses. You weren't using it as some fraudsters did to buy yourself a Lamborghini. That you were actually using it to whether the lockdowns of your business The intent was always this is not going to be something that's taxable income. Instead, it's going to be a forgivable loan because we don't want businesses at the end of the year Quarterly or whatever to face an added expense in the form of these taxes, And you know what? I'm looking at the time yet, Dave, Let me just wrap this up. Real real quick will probably get back to this story yet is my show. Yeah, you don't tell me what to do in there. I know. I know. We've got to get to Dave spotted. We gotta unhinge liberal of the day. It's a It's a jam packed show the I R s then issued some clarifying guidance saying No, no, no. This is going to be taxable income. This sparked widespread outrage among business people because they're saying Well, wait a second. We're going to be hit on this money that was supposed to be forgivable. Oh, so the second Uh, stimulus here. Made it clear Congress. Actually, Nancy Pelosi, of all people signed off on this and said, Look, the P P p expenses. This is not subject to tax liability. Governor. Evers, though, is farther to the left than Nancy Pelosi. Wisconsin doesn't need to follow federal guidance here because this is state taxation. It's not federal taxes. The federal government has nothing to do with Wisconsin taxation. So Republicans in the state Senate say we need to pass a law making it clear that you cannot tax P p p. Lo. Evers Administration, of course, and Of course, it didn't make a big to do about this because struggling businesses businesses that are going under businesses that are literally dying because of the Evers lockdowns are now having to face this additional expense..
