"Slash journey. It's 7 38. Traffic and weather on the 8s to the traffic center and Jack Taylor. Wow, welcome back. After vacation, we're gonna find at this point, unfortunately, rain, not helping. So we've got a lot of things out of the ordinary. First starting in the district traffic not moving, D.C. two 95 northbound, the wreck after burrows avenue had all traffic stopped in northeast, southbound, D.C. two 95 at river terrace, there was an early wreck along the right side, may have a vehicle on fire, foxhall rode up near Q street in northwest authorities were headed to the scene. We've had slowdowns on the beltway in Maryland, topside outer loop, just about New Hampshire avenue all the way toward river road. There was an incident before river road over on the shoulders, left and right, grabbing all the attention. Two 70 south will slow south of the monocacy through urbana, heading toward one O 9 briefly in Germantown, then very slow as you leave Gaithersburg into Rockville to expect the delay near three 70 and shady grove, headed all the way down the spur to get onto the outer loop where that crash was over on the shoulder. The earlier erect 95 south in elkridge had been reported down near route 100. There's a wreck and there's some down trees, south Baltimore Washington Parkway before one 93, a couple of vehicles swerved into the median to avoid the tree that was along the right side. Now response showed up and blocked the left lane, northbound. On the ICC headed west after 29, the crash taking two left lanes, 32 west at near Dorsey run road that earlier wreck had been blocking the far left lane. All right, in Virginia, the pedestrian crash investigation ongoing, northbound route one before Mount Vernon highway a jaina Lee avenue under direction, 50 in chantilly east under 28, the wreck along the left side, 28 northbound after 50, the crash had been blocking two right lanes, then 28 north near the toll road, another incident in the right lane, then after 6 O 6, crashing the left lane, 28 south near McLaren road, that crash cleanup remains in the left lane. Very slow traffic on the Dallas toll road east, after a hundred mil road, the crash off the roadway to the right side, but unfortunately delays remain. On the rails this morning, you'll find Mark Camden train 8 40 reporting a 25 minute delay, metro's orange blue and silver line no longer single tracking, but residual delays continue in both directions from an earlier incident at federal center. Jack Taylor WTO P traffic. The forecast now here's Chad Merrill. Lay to moderate rain will end later this morning we'll have a few peaks of sunshine this afternoon, a little bit breezy out of the northwest

"Acres Monday. I'm Lisa dwyer. It's 6 48. Traffic and weather on the 8s, Jack Taylor's in the traffic center. Montgomery county delays on the beltway topside out of lupul slope from 95 past George avenue with caution, riding through the roller coaster toward Connecticut avenue, then you're on the brakes near three 55 headed to the wreck after the merge, out of the big curve. You're going to find before river road, the crash along the left side of the roadway. Two 70 had been slow leaving Frederick riding down toward one O 9, reports of Iraq in the delay near urbana, slowing new market going 70 east, the crash clean up just before you get into mount airy had been blocking the left side of the roadway. Be careful riding George avenue, southbound down your bell pre road. Collars earlier had traffic squeezing by to the left using the turn lanes to get by a crash. Now you will find we'd had a little slow traffic on the beltway inner loop, prince George's county down before kenilworth avenue that crash clean up along the right side of the roadway. Brake lights inner loop before two ten head down toward the Woodrow Wilson bridge. Heavier in Virginia coming out of the Springfield interchange on the inner loop, riding up toward gallows road. You'll find 28 south before the toll road that wreck in the left lane then south near McLaren road, crash also blocking the left half of the roadway. There was an investigation around a pedestrian crash in Alexandria, closing the north by lanes of route one to Jana Lee avenue. It puts it before the intersection with two 35 Mount Vernon highway and buckman road. All right, going into the district, we'd been heavy with some slowing, riding in the district on D.C. two 95 south, down at river terrace we'd had an earlier crash that had been along the right side of the roadway. Freeways heavy both directions toward the third street tunnel, more volume northeastern and northwest on New York avenue, but should find your travel lanes open. On the rails metro's orange silver and blue line, no longer single tracking, but residual delays continue in both directions from an earlier train malfunction at federal center. We also had a little bit of slower traffic earlier. That should be in the easing stages as well on the orange blue and silver line. Better travels coming to I 66. The left planes on I 66 between 28 and Gainesville closed this week prepare for the express lanes opening later this month. Jack Taylor TOP traffic. Chad barrel a lot of us had a practice with all this rain we have to deal with this morning. Yeah, as a matter of fact, Bruce and Nick, it's been since October. August 10th

Can wearing a face mask protect you from the new coronavirus?
"On there's a difference between the medical great face masks that were in short supply and are needed by doctors any any face masks that you wear when you go to the hospital you know basically just a piece of cloth with some with some looks for your ears and that's how we're talking only say the doctors need medical masks are not the same types of masks South Korea has been applying those masks in public for a very long time the reason is not because gonna prevent you from getting corona viruses because gonna prevent you from transmitting corona virus because the orifice is most likely to generate the germs are your nose and mouth cinnamon to Becky is a professor of information science specializing in social effects of technology is a piece of The New York Times saying exactly this thanks to it why telling people they don't need masks backfired as the pandemic rages on there be many difficult messages for the public says this columnist and fortunately the top down conversation run mast has become a case study in how not to communicate with the public especially now the traditional gatekeepers like media and health authorities have much less control the message became counterproductive maven courage even more rewarding because it seems the authorities were shipping the message around managing scarcity rather than confronting the reality of the situation first many health experts including the Surgeon General told the public simultaneously the mass weren't necessary for protecting the general public and health care workers need to dwindling supply this contradiction obviously confuse the ordinary let's realize that health care workers in it but I don't second there attempts to bolster the first message that ordinary people didn't mask by telling people to master especially medical grade respirator masks like the an ninety five needed proper fitting that ordinary people without such that it wouldn't benefit again that is deeply counterproductive many people wash their hands wrong we don't tell them not to bother washing their hands and then of course masterwork maybe not perfectly and also the same degree that they do provide some protection there is always been advised as part of the standard response to being around infected people especially for people who may be vulnerable WHL officials wear masks during their news briefings that was the reason I bought a few in early January been conducting research in Hong Kong which has a lot of content to mainland China and expected to go back I studied says this columnist and talk about the sociology pandemics in new from the sars experience in two thousand three health officials in many high risk Asian countries advise wearing masks it's true the mass don't work perfectly there are place handwashing social distancing that they work better if they fit properly and surgical masks which are disposable type that I'm talking about don't filter out small viral particles with medical grade masks but even surgical mask protect a bit more than not wearing masks at all we know from research the mass where it helps decrease transmission rates along with frequent hand washing and its social distancing now we're facing a respirator mask shortage the federal centers for disease control and prevention is recommending that surgical masks are an acceptable alternative for health care workers again obviously because some protection even if imperfect is better than none for the W. H. on TT he told the public to wear masks if they were sick so again like they're all these conflicting messages here's the bottom line moving forward after this thing alleviate some people go back to work here's more than any one any the wiser availability of testing so you can get tested quickly and then you can and then you can isolate fast we are going to need people to continue social distancing we're going to need those you can telecommute into telehealth to do that we are going to need people to wear masks that that is going to be something that we probably are going to need the sort of long term policies are going to be useful the south Korean strategy becomes viable when those resources are available but the south Korean strategy was not viable and is not viable in the United States because number one people don't have the mass number two we don't actually have the capacity at this point to give those widespread test but this is why the government policy needs to be generated right now toward making all the stuff available anymore I see that we need widespread testing and then when we get back to regulate the economy can can can continue functioning
