Angry FDNY Members Protest COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement as Mayor Stands by His Mandate

"According to the New York Post, just yesterday, the fire department of New York, the FDNY, said the just 65% of its firefighters fire officers and EMS workers had been vaccinated. Despite mayor de Blasio's order that all city workers receive at least one dose or face suspension without pay on Monday. The fire commissioner issued a statement. That we must manage the unfortunate fact that a portion of our workplace has refused to comply with a vaccine mandate for all city employees. And they're saying, the fact is, with a heart attack, do you know how many how crucial it is for 6 or 7 or 8 minutes?

"And I literally looked right over the plug and when I gave my seen report I was like we're not We're not on water. Well, there's a fucking plug and literally. Put off the back rear. Of the truck. In they bust my balls a little bit about it. But like I'm not focused on that focused on what I've got going with this residential structure in what some challenges and Blah Blah Blah, all that crap. I was GonNa say if you had the rap. On the way there. Right in front of the driver right where we're GONNA PARK Right. Yeah. The red, the red, the things that we use doesn't give us that mapping but Yeah I mean we have the old box books to where you go through and you pull up your box and all your street in that box and you're hydrants are there but you know I used to be the type of person that would go to that box book regardless. Regardless of the technology and I found myself over the years now, just relying on technology when that instance in that literally happened two days ago. Celtic, made me think again like maybe I should open up the box book for every box. You know every call 'cause a discount seconds to open up the box book but at least I can get a good idea of what we see where and what is that will before we move on in you know we talked a little bit prior to recording about how you know we as halo is try to circumvent PTSD and mental issues in our first responders in. We've all got some issues here there we're all fucked up. You know we'll just put it out there. So we had talked about that but before we get into. Next thing I want to talk about quick 'cause I gotta I got about ten minutes left is. Where do people go find your APP is it called rapid response like if they type that into IOS in the APP store will come up if they take response, they'd probably on this but the actual product is called three sixty response..

"Of the boss wants to bring their attention to solve a real fire escape Recep back on open chef, the coach Jeff, the roof for the roof man, whatever it is, he can. He can bring their attention to that and I don't think you sound like you're on go so he'll literally like on his screen up front he has control where if he sees a roof access or a potential hazard, debt has hazardous debt load on the roof or whatever he can zoom in on that and then cute back to you guys whether wearing headphone Mike's. In the truck and say, hey, Johnny check this out. We're not going on the fucking roof blah, Blah Blah. Operate not it. Is remain, and I mean, we don't have anything like that. Usually have someone screaming back to screaming about something about the bill you know at at least now screen. Screen. Mode. The engine and Signs Yeah that's the way it always goes man always. The forty say. We'll get there. We'll fuck we'll work on it that it's yeah that's great. So does it now does the firemen have control over? That is well can he like? So let's say he's the control man can swipe on that to see the different. Does that hookup everybody's screen? This is were experimenting with right now the control man or. Like the roof or the V.. Right now we're the boss is the only one able to control it because for the way we operate. He's really the only one who could. Actually keep an ungloved hand and operate this thing, right? Okay. We were talking about it where okay. If the if the boss zero in on something. And on the roof man so. Going in I'm going up I might have one zero in on song that. Doesn't necessarily want. So this is something we've been tinkering around with is may be put in a second tablet where I can't control the screen but no one really gives a shit about what I wanna see except me I'm the only one going up on the roof saw. So so maybe the bosses what we were going to start testing. Now if the leave the Boston control, the screen that everyone can see but gave me the opportunity to go after what I want. If if I see that it's different from what the boss wants runoff on the O. V. which houses outside vent I, know everyone uses different terms..

"Three different maps actually all layered over each other so. The Three D. View Right now is leveraged through a Google Earth that you have the street view, which is a Google Street view, which is different map also made by Google bullets leverage the different way, and then there's an overview which is a third map, but they're all Kinda late over each other. In a way where you getting just what you need from that particular map Rackham. What do you get in that third view? Is that like a GPS where you can see the water mains? No. Wherever plug is everything like that. You guys actually does your map show the actual water main size and everything where all connect it depending on what product with working with in that apartment a lot of times to get that sort of information you will need a contract with with the department, which once we have it, we have what we have access to information. We absolutely give that right to the firefighters right but let's just say. You guys on your wanted. But you know all the red tape that will take to go through a contract in an. Attempt to get things into the firefighters as quick as possible if we can get it on your rig. Yeah we might not get main sizes, but all we need is hydro coordinates. So like right now New York. I, get a ticket and get the ten close inside of all we have. It's basically public information that you have access to those x and y coordinates for each hydrogen got one hundred eleven, thousand hydrogen, the city. Nina our system. So the ticket trump's in you closes hydrates and we inspect their hydrants. So are actually able to tell the fives. Okay. Usually closes hydrated and it's clear cut. It's either read between his out green means go or yellow means we don't know yet, but you see it right off the bat and it's actually built into the street view. So let's pretend the ticket comes in you open up the ticket is giving you a street you you're looking at the fire building. Okay. The boss wants to look left look, right it's also dropping your nearest hydrant beacon so you can tell how close your nearest hydrogen is. Building, in an actual tell you fifty five feet from viabilty. Estimating stretch route. You normally I linked to my need back stretching or it's just ultra cool things. I think the counties over fourteen critical points of information that these guys can get in on the two minutes. So every. Four and half minutes you figure thirty seconds to get you should on so. We really got it down to. Real short time very easily digested, created like a nice land for us just what we need. Yeah, which is perfect when you look when you. So you said you have a a monitor in the back of the rig. Correct is at one monitor for all the firefighters are one monitor each side so. You guys run five guys, right? You guys run five. In. The engine is in the engineer has one in the there's five in the truck there six. So the way the engine is situated, we were able to get old the members to see it with one monitor in a truck. The way they were sitting, we actually like the refers as V model, which is screens kind of chatting. So every memory, no one's got your slowdown getting yet year on Umass on oxygen on. You could see ed every person could see it at from their seat..

"But you have some you have something that will tell you where you're hydrants are like when you have five. What we have on your map and on House Watch Right Pencil marks of we're all the eagles I went up when fire comes the ticket comes in. Your show for is like able to. Find. No. So, how do you know as it? Usually these I don't know I. Don't have a good answer for you. Just these guys usually no, he goes. That's fucking ridiculous. This Day age when I'm EGOS I go shopping at my normal shopping plaza I'm putting in ways and putting it in Google maps but you guys are in life saving operations and you're not leveraging any of that. I, said I. I. Don't know what to tell ya I guess not but it works what we do works. Right? We'll right up. To. Find A way. Right typical five. Mike Yeah. There's gotta be a better way I was like know don't sixty it's not broken. You know maybe a few days later he's like, yeah we all do some about this. We should. We should do something throw. It's not mean you could do about the like just leave it alone is that. And I think it maybe it was like two weeks later and another company I was working on his car park on the hydrant. Call Fire and it wasn't us but it was it was one of the engines in our area they missed the hydro. Okay. This is what I. Call Them Up Mike. Little pissed unlike y'all maybe there is something we could do you know when we just is the typical startup story know we we? "Now. A. Hey Just a little. A little after again bobby. But that's okay because as we discussed before your nasty and Y guy. You're you're a truckee. So, Yeah Brian. fucking knuckle draggers down there i. But I learned right now. Bobby look at. To give the listeners a little bit of insight we had recorded with you previously We did about a forty forty five minutes show with you highlighting your business and stuff like that. As I always say everything happens for a reason I know it's Cliche Blah. Blah? Blah but you did bring up something that we're going to talk about a little bit on the show. That I think is absolutely fantastic that you do. So I'm kind of glad we had to re record this. I- I- FUCKED UP I. Ended up changing the file name of a whole your files and then deleting. The files didn't need anymore because I'm super OCD right and there they went. So that's when I emailed you and I'm like Shit. Bob. I for the last one, we had to get rid of it right Exactly. So look I know who you are Jeff a fall is joining me today is a guest co host so I welcome him with me I'm sure he'll have a bunch of questions for you as well Bobby, but this is Jeff. Why don't you start off from why I mean we're we're we're all firefighters. Get into our foot. How'd you get firefighting? Is this something that? Typically, it either runs in the family or you've wanted to be one since a little kid what how'd you get into it? It definitely the latter of the two Jeff Nice to meet you. Too thank. You guys had me on show again hit question definitely the latter of those two. I, am first generation firefighter no one in my family was on the job I just it's just something always wanted to do and I took the test seventeen and a half. I didn't get onto lows twenty six because the test that I took it. Ended up getting out ruled racially discriminatory, throw it out and it was basically a waiting game until they it was a huge a hiring freeze for a while. So in the meantime I thought it was GonNa Finish College while I was a firefighter but obviously all bad I ended up finishing college I was on still I'm a CPA that's what I did. To get nominees job so I graduated school. I, got a job at Deloitte and Touche which is just a big counting firm did that for maybe like Two three years and then I got recruited by a Hedge Fund Dafur about two three years. So do it okay and then they find the cold and I had to go for you know I had that was the day. My Dad's our firms me as the son who's allergic to money you know. So that was..

"Football season so I do weight. Who Does he vote for and football? I'm afraid to even ask steelers. Why because the good I can't I can't say I know anything about football so I I really can't say very much about football. That's not my that's not my thing. We're we're cowboys fans but only because John is we don't really even like football even watch it. Yes stick with yeah. We'RE BETTER WITH BASEBALL. Baseball and hockey. Those are those are hockey's another good sport. Are you islanders fans or Rangers fans? Oh God rangers come on Oak now. Never an islanders fan never never now. I can't say that we watch. I mean certainly. Baseball is the extreme sport. And that's yes. That's all baseball all the time. If it's not baseball season we're just waiting for it to be so you know hockey. If it's on will turn it on. You know it's not a thing. How does it work down there? What IS IT NEW JERSEY. The people that live in New Jersey or Manhattan like the Yankees and everyone on Long Island Queens. In that. Like the mets right. Is that how it kind of the divide it is? It does seem to be a little bit of the divide. I mean you'll find plenty of Yankee fans out here who have moved But I think I think you'll find It's kind of I think. In some ways it might even be separated along geographic lines in terms of where it's easier to get okay. I always said to Jack. It's actually good that you didn't end up being a Yankee Fan. Because the Yankee Stadium would be much harder. It takes being our to get city field an hour to get home right. So I'm traveling for two hours on a weeknight late night. Whatever I would never go to as many games if I had to go to the Bronx as where I go now because it's not that I mean it's an hour but it's not that it's not a bad our right that makes any sense you know. It's not like a terrible drought. So but going to the Bronx Hell. Now that would not hap- tell you right now. It's no way know there are certain places like you know the thing about long island is that unfortunately it's it's so isolated in some ways that you feel like even going to Manhattan is a huge trip right. Just anywhere you go. It's an ordeal like we're going to Boston this weekend. You know and I'm just like the thought of driving through Manhattan to have to get to Boston is just it makes me. WanNa just you know. Just throw up and turnaround Knoxville Luckily we had the fairies here so I can actually take a ferry from long island over etiquette. Avoid that. That's the way to go right exactly. Well it's the same amount of time but it's an hour that I'm actually not driving and given the Jack is thirteen. It wouldn't really be appropriate for me to buy the wheel quite yet. Although I think I'd get in trouble if I did that he probably could drive. But I'd probably get in trouble if I did that. So as long as I'm still the only driver but that's the thing about long island is that is it. It feels like anywhere you have to go off. Long Island can be an ordeal a real a real pain in the neck anywhere. It's tough yeah. I always came in from the north when I went down to four totten. I came in from the northeast. Just you know they did the Tappan Zee to the whitestone in just went down in debt queens over there because I did not. I wanted nothing to do with the Cross Bronx Expressway and I wanted nothing to do with the GW bridge right. New Pirate agree. I think you're absolutely right about that. Royal Pain in the ASS. Visit my My sister-in-law lives up in Middletown. So I'll go. I'll take exactly that same way to get up to her. It's just anything to avoid that whole mess. It is. It is such a mess. Well Again Jen. He's he's graduating this year and going to high school next year so I just WanNa get to high school and college and you can do whatever it is that makes him happy. That's Great I. You know I used to I used to race and a fire department racing team. And that's how I got to know a lot of long island guys so Abedin your parts many times. We're really close and I still am close with guys from central Islip. How he yeah? He goes their numbers more better than others. Depending on the time the day it was well. Yeah I mean we you know we've with some beers back down there snow. There's no hiding that. Yeah well that's all right. That's what firefighters do. I get it now. I see lately. You know. Obviously since we've been talking Gen a see that you guys to fun stuff together you and your son. It's like you guys are attached at the hip which is amazing. I saw you just were doing like a spring baseball spring training thing. Is that something you to love doing together? If you do have a lot of connections there yeah so we We've been going. I guess this is our third year. going down there. And yes we so he by son his In two thousand fifteen. He decided that he was going to be the biggest pain in the world and boy has he achieved. So we we go to mets games. All the time You know we have half season tickets. I couldn't do the full season. It would probably kill me That's a lot of games. That is a lot of games. Ed and all the other stuff. He does have a lot of games so we have season tickets. And you know through time you know through time. He's we travel when they travel. You know. Events allow two different stadiums. We've done that stadium tour. We're about halfway through. And so you know he's come to know a lot of the players and he's also come to know a lot of the coaches And he himself has been coached by you. Know some people who've recently You know signed some some contracts with the minor league so yeah so we go so we go every year. We actually we went. Last year was a lot of fun. We made friends with one of the mets pitching coaches and And his wife actually made friends with the wife and then you know met him. As a result she's amazing. We have so much fun with our and last year we we were lucky. We spent the entire spring training. Like going all the gains and all the workouts. Every night we went out to dinner with the two of them and a lot of fun you know. Listen he's a thirteen year old boy raid. And he's standing there and Stephen Matt's walks by and says hey jack how the new manager walks by and says you know. Hey where's Jack? I haven't seen him all day when the guys know his name. Dom Smith comes over and gives them a huge hug with a big smile. You know so great to see you. Jack. I mean it's an amazing experience for him and you know we are very loyal. Once we like a player we like a player and so like Kevin was his first and best favourite. Ever okay an so. Kevin recently signed with the Red Sox. As did Chris Mazza who we followed from the miners we met his fiancee actually in Syracuse. And so we followed him and he was called up and we've remained friends with his with his fiancee and so he signed with the Red Sox this year. So you had no red sox trip Was was in our future. So flew into Fort Myers. We rent a red SOX CAM for a couple of days and got to see them. Which was all you know fabulous and then a coach of his That he took some some clinics with over the over. The winter actually just signed with the twins So we went over there. They're also in Fort. Myers we did that. A one of his his pitching coach actually unfortunately for us but fortunately for him just started his first day. He signed with Kansas city royals. So I've been told to. I've been told to put the money aside for when he gets called up. We're going to have to fly out there really fast. It's great it's a lot of fun you know. It's never John was Yankee Fan. Okay Big Yankee Fan and I grew up Yankee Fan. Yeah I tried to make Jackie. Yankee Fan didn't happen work. Oh not even a little bit even a little bit of fun you know. It's it's I mean. Spring training is is not for the faint to Heart Bright Jack. Jack has made the stadium at six in the morning to see the players coming in and we don't usually get back to the hotel until about you know six o'clock at night last car out but it's fine you know. He has a good time. I enjoy it. You know because obviously a lot of the Nomi at this point so I enjoyed a lot. It's a lot of fun. I got promoted Last August and or net last August August ago and I had to go down to fourteen to go through flips in We went over to the stadium. We went over to city field and then we did a game at Yankee Stadium. And you what? I'm not a fan of either team. Said he feels so much. Better isn't a city field. Is Ten Thousand Times better than Yankee Stadium? I agree and I've said that on this podcast to anybody and everybody. That goes watches a baseball game. Or if they go to New York City for Vacation WanNa go see a baseball game. Go to city field. Do not go to Yankee. Yankee Stadium was freaking horrible. I mean it was a baseball game but it stat. It's different you know it's like you had to so we stood in the out. We bought the cheap tickets. So we re just stood in the outfield and You have to go lake outside down. Backup staircases just to get to the like the standing area in the outfield. You don't see any of the game when you're getting food or anything. City field is so wide open death. You can literally be waiting in line to order a dirty water dog in. You can still keep your eye on the ball game. Absolutely you know we. We went to Yankee Stadium. I guess when Hella Jacques so before Jack was a mad family went to Yankee Stadium is John wanted some of his ashes. There okay So we went to a game with the family now. My brother-in-law sister in laws John had two sisters her brother. They're all Yankee fans so we all went there and yeah it wasn't it wasn't we went to the new stadium. Of course I grew up going to the old stadium. We were there all the time. My Dad's company on season tickets that we were there all the time. Okay but yeah city field is when I've said this a million times. It's it's just got a different feel and listen. Maybe it's because we know the players. Maybe it's because we know the security guards there so often in A. We're lucky we sit in the seats where they have the waiter service so we don't ever have to get up which is Great Nice. Um You know Jack Jack. Takes a Lotta pictures. And he Any catch spoils all the time except he misses mom catches on for it..

"Everywhere. And we use other events you know depending on depending on what it is You know we do some other events like we've done comedy events Through laughter saves lives. I don't know if you've ever heard of them but they're a great organization run by a firefighter who lost a lot of his guys. Nine eleven okay. So we do accommodate We used to do like a run. A Five K but I live in a place where there are so many five ks. That was kind of overkill. There really are. It's gotta be like. Yeah yes so it was just. There was such a tremendous amount of work that had to be put into it for the small return. We were getting. We decided to forget it. You know we're doing a bowling event. Actually coming remarried on that one before and then we actually do a lot of a lot of just like facebook fundraisers so for example. One thing that we got into quite by accident was Superstorm sandy hit down here. We decided that we had help because a lot of the areas that were hit were areas where there were firefighters. Okay guys from my husband's firehouse actually lost everything. So we said you know what like? We've got a network where we've gotTA reach. Let's see what we can do. And before we knew it might entire home on the first floor literally was filled filled filled with items and we were sending box trucks down to all different neighborhoods both on long island as well as in in the rockaways area and at some point we eventually started to Help Houses Jack. Actually when he was very young worked with Jimmy Sands to actually put a house back together. So so we've gotten into doing some some Disaster relief but on a very limited basis. Meaning when there was that When there was a hurricane in Houston when there was the hurricane in North Carolina? We throw a fundraiser on facebook. I made a contact In each of those places within the Fire Service Guy And what we did was we raise money. We raised about five thousand dollars for each of those in a very short period of time and we sent it down and gift cards that were distributed to first responders. Because our feeling was that you know they're all out there helping everybody else out and saving everyone else in. Meanwhile their houses sitting there in a disaster and so we felt that that was sort of a an interesting in good way to give back in a really bad time. And that's easy for us in. That doesn't take for us. That does I wouldn't say it's easy. But that doesn't take funds away from you. Know from the first responded work. We do where the community center work that we do. Those are fundraisers that we just put up target very specifically and then you're using your platform in a way to help Rather than just sit there and let it go by. I mean it's five thousand dollars that those people never would have had if you didn't just make some facebook posts so I completely get what you're saying when you say it's quote unquote easy but it's not. There's no real overhead for you. There's not a ton of man hours involved with so it's it's good regardless you know it's money they wouldn't have had right but seems to me like you. You guys really jump on the real big catastrophes I know John if I remember correctly. Spend a Lotta time in New Orleans right after Katrina. They sure did was he task force one or did he go down with a just a team after you. Why guys so. He just went down with a team of Afghan guys. He actually was very angry because he had volunteered to be in the first wave in he didn't go until the second wave. But you know I.

"Non Lou picked up right where rate you know left off and I was. I didn't know I knew rave is very close with my son was already closet. Bright And I didn't know Lou but I know his brother. We've become friends since you know tragedies like this tend to bring people together I've gotten to know his brother. Who's an amazing I? Jon Stewart's an incredible guy. Jack just my son knows the good people and he just loves him and he's an amazing guy and he believes in San. It's important to him and he really cares about people in cares about responders and he cares about injustice right. I just think it's unfortunate that nobody paid attention until you have a guy who's steps from death and a celebrity in front of you and that's what it takes that's not what it should have taken no. It just shouldn't have. Yeah and that's kind of what I was alluding to there is just it's sad. It's sad that it took that it had to go to that level in order to get something done. I mean I'm one hundred percent agree agreement with you. Were all aware that at least you know again in our line of work. We're all aware of the feel good foundation in the progressiveness he's done in Washington D. C. To get the ball rolling and get it all done and he is an unsung hero. I'm sure if you go to a majority of citizens around the United States there frigging clueless and how this all started. Jon Stewart pounded his fist now again. Right thank God. It finally got done. You know thinking of this Kevin. Wise like good finally got done on. You know unfortunately had to take like you. Just said Gen. A man on his deathbed in a celebrity get it done but thank God it finally got done. But JEEZ doesn't I watched the work. You Know I. I've watched what these people have done. You know people like Kenny Spectrum. Rob Sarah you know amongst them. I've watched with all these people have done for years. You know don't forget I. My husband's been dead for ten years at this point so I watched this battle. Not just while he was fighting it but after he was gone and others were writing it. So you know there are so many just ordinary people that went down there you know that went down to DC that got on that bus. That took the time away from their family. Many of them. Who are ill themselves? Perhaps not as highlighted as you know as as ray or leur but unfortunately the fact of the matter is is that the press doesn't care until you put something finding them that they can't ignore Roy celebrity. I mean that's really the fact of the matter in Giancana told me this you gotta hit when the press cares you know. I mean I did a press conference. The morning of John's wake the first morning of the week I went and I did a press conference. You know why I did it because I promised him. On his deathbed that nobody was ever GonNa Forget and people cared at that moment and I didn't know if they would care in a week so I set all right. Let's go we're going to go do it. And we did was bizarre. I I can imagine the fact of the matter is I was in such a daze. At that point I mean it was just so overwhelming at that point that you know what's another press conference Anyway yeah I mean it's just A. I'm sure at the time. Nobody can understand what it's like to be in your shoes so I mean we. You know it's one of those things like you can sit here and go well. I wouldn't do a press conference if my husband just died. But when you know when you're in your own shoes that's when in that situation is when you can make those decisions in here thinking about this you know I knew I wanted to be a firefighter at a very young age and every conversation. I had with firefighters all to the United States. Is You know it's not something you just wake up one day like yeah. I'm a fireman. Something that you're born with and when I signed up to take the test and volunteer like I knew some of the risks that are associated with that but then as as I got into a family and my wife my wife doesn't come from a first responder background so she never really knew what she was signing up for and I think that's the big takeaway here as well as like you know. The wife's our spouses don't after all this happens like they have a huge support system. You know there's people that are willing to help and you know the second family. Is We call? It comes in and help support them but yeah I mean I think I was. I was in a different place because I'd had experienced in the fire service not my own experience And I did not come from a first responder family at all. But because I worked with the F. D. N. Y. Foundation I work with a lot of firefighters. I knew a lot of firefighters prior to meeting John. It actually ridden and spent a night in rescue to very thorough as well as little. Yeah with a big job to different places. When John and I met on our first date we were talking about. You know sort of what size hose goes on what size hydrogen all. This kind of stuff and I was actually capable of having a conversation with him about that and he's just like I'm not sure what to do here like either I'm GonNa marry you or run away. So now was he so. He was a firefighter. When you guys met so we met in two thousand eight hundred ninety nine. So it wasn't. He wasn't even quite a year okay. You've done a lot of amazing things. Even when we've talked a few times here Jen here very very busy woman in for what a great reason I mean you you had the gala you do that. Every year we do the gala every year. Yes and then we do a golf outing.

"Thanks Hey jen welcome how are you? I'm very well thank you very. It's a pleasure to have you on with us. A few months ago we decided to pick the John F McNamara Foundation as a charity to donate to and have our listeners. Donate to because solely myself went and got waxed which was pretty interesting. That's one way to put it It hurt it was fun. I'll tell you what obviously doing it for a great cause a great organization. We absolutely love what you guys are doing down there long Allen but we had so much fun making it almost like negates. All of the pain that that comes with that you know what I mean. Now I don't and that's a one time thing. Do it do it every couple of well wait a minute now. The lady that did it said that it gets easier every tame you know it does not but anyways I mean for like I said for a Great Organization. It was well worth it. We raised over five hundred dollars. Which for two guys that started a podcast two and a half years ago with The listenership we have I was very very happy with that but people may not know. Exactly what the Johnny Mak Foundation Organization is. Can you tell us where it started how it started? And why it started. I mean solely myself in the other firefighters at listen. They're well aware of who your husband was. But can you give us an idea of why this was all started in that so I yes When we were planning federal Right after he died I I was trying to figure out something sort of specific related to the funeral on. I called a friend of his. In what do you think? What would he prefer like? I knew most of it because obviously we'd had a longtime during his own this to talk about things like this. There is a one little detail of course it had to be perfect so I said to his fellows like so. What do you think he'd want and he's like well? He left all of his wishes in his hospital bag. And I'm like what so. I went into his hospital bag which of course I hadn't touched I brought home but hadn't touched and but for actually getting this piece of paper out is still upstairs in my attic. Ten years later and I opened it up and my guide boy. Did he not ever planned to let me rest? And there were wishes related to you. Know the five different places they ashes were GonNa go and what the funeral was supposed to be like which was actually something that I was looking for. And you know how things about Jack Things but most of it was like all this stuff sort of related to You know related to the end But the one thing that struck me was this fourteenth. Wish wish for community center in our neighborhood because we live in a small town. There were kids always out on the street. You know getting into trouble and John and I always had like there's nothing for kids to do here except like hang out and do nothing and so he wanted this community center so when I kind of came out of my fog about a year later I formed the MAC nation. You know the big thing I guess was to sort of create this community center. And I had this tenure plan of what I was GonNa do and Blah Blah Blah and once. I had a five. Oh One C. I said well community centers not really as important as what's really going on right now with all of our nine eleven first responders and I felt that Don was well known enough for his advocacy and at that point with my son Jack who was to in going on three at the time Still spent a lot of time going down to press conferences than doing newspaper interviews in trying to create awareness. And I said well I said I guess we're GONNA do a couple of things so we actually really started working more on the first first responders part of it that was sort of more important to us to make donations to commissaries when when we found out that somebody was sick to send care packages for a while. We had a blanket project going. Because we knew we had a friend Out of Nafta and they had Darwin down to Katrina had made friends with a captain down. There in. His wife was a quilter. She made this amazing quilt for John when he was sick. And anybody WHO's been through? Cancer knows chemotherapy saps the ever living daylights out of you and particularly makes you freezing. All the time and this quote was like a godsend for him so she made quilts for us that we would distribute guys who were sick in the hospital so you know we sort of continued on. It was kind of a dual track. I guess for a long time like we always had the Kennedy Center in the back of our had but again it was the immediate need. That was more important to us it was the advocacy and John Feel. I'm sure you all know from the field. Good Foundation would call and say hey. Can you go to this? Press conference taking do the century. Yeah of course and I drop everything I'd go do it because it created the awareness right And and there wasn't there wasn't a lot that I could do as as a widow and a fulltime job I had an infant Really a toddler. I guess so. There wasn't a lot that could do. I couldn't go to DC. Like Don had donner a lot of other things. But that's what I do And I could raise money and try and help to defray any of the costs because don't forget this was before the Georgia was passed. So people weren't getting. They weren't getting the money they weren't getting the healthcare so people really in dire straits. Yeah I'm looking at Your website here and not only. Do you run this foundation or founder and the president of it but you you sit on a lot of other foundations as well. I do not as much as they used to. 'cause you know as as Johnny Mak did the minute. He walked into my life He's still continues to take over my life so the Dotty Mack Foundation is has really become you know sort of everything for me But I I served for many years. I served as legal counsel and secretary to the FBI. Fire Foundation did that for years. That was that was an amazing organization. They still are You know they raise millions of dollars a year to help Fire programs within the city of New York and then I served for a while as the widow. Trustee of the nine eleven responded remembered park on the John on the feel good foundation built an amazing park if anybody has not been there. It's it's just incredible at honors all of our responders not just those in uniform which is such an important thing and then what else did I do? It remember. You're looking at. That's definitely more than enough when Kevin and I were talking about this. Our biggest thing was educating some of our listeners because not all of them are in the firer first responder world so they understand it. You know there's still people that are ill from the nine eleven event and you know that's one of the things is we wanted to get out to people as you know just because you know the rebels cleaned up. The you know the many women went home. There's still people that are facing now the everyday challenge of the illnesses that are associated with this tragedy. Yeah there I mean every day you turn around there somebody else being diagnosed when dying. Unfortunately it's funny because remember when this all started like when John was I noticed that was back that was back when I was pregnant in.

people at an event we have no school in New York City private in public and our restaurants are shut down they can deliver but that's it bars did you serve alcohol or shut down nightclubs are shut these people are breaking anything on a law on the books they're breaking a rule that the mayor brought up that did that the federal government agrees with how do you handle that how's how's it different from a violation I don't think of the most resistance at all everybody is super concerned about this I think the owners of these but on numerous fronts the bar's gonna comply and if they don't I think it's just a question going in and pointing it out until Monday because the team real enforcement required for this because of the state of anxiety that the everyone is it just goes on for months when you guys game plan out worst case scenarios we worry most about but we have to worry about the health of the first responders they manage critical we have to be able to go anywhere and they need the protective equipment the firefighters for instance by the nature of the job have more protective equipment and police offices PMS has posed probably someplace in in the middle but the police need to arrive because they need all of the hand sanitizing up the quickness that they can get it's difficult but it's going to be very difficult if the virus president department what you're gonna see is all of this is going on polo towards listed financial jobs who will be they're not occupied police officers within those drugs will put uniforms on and and go on on patrol we don't know this is so unknown territory you don't have to play a lot of it is by here is interesting because you know they have found that many your men women and families and you know if they're if they're in contact with him with a crime virus to get a quarantine for fourteen days that manner that officer is pulled off the streets right for two weeks and I also have to be careful when you're off duty they have to practice you know this extra level of hygiene when your own when you're with the their families obviously they have the potential for contracting and when they're working but also one you're just doing I don't carry out life and live scores so we we really need them particularly now so hopefully they're going to be very vigilant about what they do is they come in contact with but in some cases there is an assumption of risk and they're going to have to come closer contact people who have the virus so I understand Cuomo Murphy and the model three governors are demanding all bars restaurants must close for dining services by eight o'clock tonight let alone night clubs just closed eight o'clock tonight so it's gonna be pretty dramatic the thing you have is students on the streets you know some of these people are in double it with parents to work is is that in additional challenge private public schools closed absolutely in New York City you have over a million school children who will be some of them let's face it will be on supervised and because experience in the past where young people get together and crowds and so in the stores and sort of terrorize people feel things as a matter of fact is extra patrols in certain areas of the city right now for that ongoing problem can be exacerbated with the X. for a number of young people on the street you could say it's like this summer but over time really usually means that there is some parental involvement that there's some organizations and that the these young people are involved with I don't think that's the case certainly not right now so we kept it's an extra challenge for the police it's been a cyber attack in March you know healthy human services so they're trying to find out the damage was done there this is an opportunity for the unsavory for the criminal acts isn't it yes absolutely have to remain superficial and full address that type of thing because you know you know we're at a high level anxiety here they're opening at one under the vigilance and as we normally are so it's really incumbent on the federal government at all all government agencies quite frankly to be super alert during this very sensitive time mystery Kelly with us for a couple more minutes commissioner the stores are now empty too so a lot of these restaurants are empty and you know that the guys the men and women alone if they they take the keys I go home but now those places are targets correct well it could be you know there's less people on the street name people who are going to do bad things may stand out more to the police officers are on patrol unknown I I just know we going to have to say but even play this by ear because we still have not experienced anything to this extent only is in the city of courses nationwide so you know we're on our own here in terms of using our own resources has a communication in a situation like this when you're commission of the NYPD with the federal government I mean duh are they always seeking input are you always giving output about what what to do where to go and how to implement yeah I believe communication was better than it's ever been there's a lot more into action for your local state and federal agencies and that yeah that information is going up and and then coming back down so I think you could check as far as that goes this is this is a situation like this does this make you want to be wish you were in charge again most certainly give the this is very challenging and you know I think the the police commission demonstrate is a good man who is fine job commissioner ray Kelly just wanted to respectable something that none of us very experienced before when a guy like you says I've never experienced any like this before you really know we're in uncharted territories thanks so much okay take it right back commissioner ray Kelly joining us maybe the finest police commissioner we've ever had New York City outside teddy Roosevelt so I'll come back and we'll be able to take some of your calls in the final in the final fifteen minutes of this hour but keep in mind too we are tracking what's going on in the stock market where I think we might be in the middle of that yet another pause because the market it no not another pause because the market has not dropped that much which is interesting because the the president I'd states was real happy yesterday he found out they cut the interest rate to the fed two point two five which is virtually zero which means he's got very few more moves to make he said I feel good about it but if he didn't do over the market did for the overall health of the economy and the markets respond negatively for because basically they say the numbers are coming out of China manufactures ground to a halt the two deep in the other point is gone up and the so much of the world's manufacturing comes from that country that the the rest of the country the rest of the world is getting sick because they're a responsibility with this virus not so much that they got it but how they treated from it I mean that literally the doctor at the blew the whistle on the severity of the virus they put in jail and he died of the virus itself like a bad movie plot but it's true as we go to break I want you to hear from Dr Scott Gottlieb is cut number thirteen he's been in constant contact with the White House he's a former FDA commissioner did a great job when he was there I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to talk to officials in the White House all through this some of the calls that I was making dinner conversations I was having a go back to January they've been on top of this I mean they've been concerned about this I've been talking to White House staff and that's been concerned about this and so I'm gonna continue to try to provide whatever help I can he is Brian Kilmeade.

Fighting Fires with Lt. Sarinya Srisakul, FDNY'S First Asian Woman Firefighter

"We're GONNA introduce guest richest guest. You WanNa take it away. Sure thanks this. We have another righteous guest up. She is the first ever Asian American female firefighter for the New York City. Fire departments and now the first Asian women lieutenant in the near New York City Fire Department. Please welcome Serena's Russa cool so perhaps we usually start off with asking our guests like describe what you do right because sometimes stylised or they're in entrepreneur and you have a title where it's like a firefighter. It's pretty planetary on the surface. But I don't think most people know like what really means. Fighter could you kind of simply due in Lieutenant House? Oh yeah so. I'll talk a little bit about finger. Firefighters I and Lieutenant so as a firefighter besides qualifiers you also do a medical calls for accidents stuck elevators electrical water utility emergencies Water main breaks Anything that doesn't neatly fit in the category of like what? Police officer does usually. It's the Fire Department. See something say something. We show up to that Any weird random rescues anyway that that's the fire department and sounds like is like better better to be safe than sorry kind of situations where you show up fully geared up with the big as like trump and and it's like a cigarette. Yeah our code for when they're smoking weed is it. Smells like incense. It smells like wink. Wink City colitis incense situation. So before you get into the lieutenant part what you were saying you do you guys cover pretty much everything that the police department wouldn't cover a lot with them to you. Yeah so they show up Even medical calls US ambulances and them show up so you obviously had your tenure in that space. So y'all can you describe what that sure basically? I'm just the supervisor so boss the boss there is. You're saying firetruck. There was a fire truck. There's a fire engine. The engine was the difference. Engine has hosing them back. So it's like the shorter rig And so out of fire. Engines stretch the hose line and put the fire out right and it's heavy unwieldy hose so you need a team and they're the ones that need the hydrant right the truck. They have the ladders in the back. So they're the ones that do the ventilation and they do the searches so there have the ladders for the people who are trapped inside. Yeah so and with the I guess. The utility emergencies the engines go to medical emergencies and the trucks go to the stock elevators and water leaks. So that's how we divide up tasks. Yeah so when you look at a rid great Either in an engine or truck. The person who's driving is called a chauffeur and the person next to the show for the officer. And it's either a lieutenant or a captain so in every fire company there's three lieutenants and one captain so I'm a brand new lieutenant so I don't have a permanent station right now. So I'm kind of like a substitute teacher. So whenever any officers sick or on vacation I cover their spot for when they're gone. I'm in North Queens. Which is where I'm assigned So as an officer. I'm a supervisor. Supervise the crew. I'm working with for the day and I do the paperwork for like their how they get paid. People were As a crew during the day. Let's say it's a car accident at the work on that. Cpr Do paperwork on that anything like that. That's the job of the officer to do the paperwork for whatever emergency does and make the decisions Of the best things to do in a fire situation the officers go in with the insight team of the truck and You know you help locate the fire if you're in the truck if you're in the engine then you like hall for whatever needs to happen for the crew to bring in to help fight the fire. Okay got you. I mean thousand foes. Luggage very thorough. There's so many different layers to it. A military base allow paramilitary organization. So we want to rewind a little bit about your beginnings in his career like as Joe mentioned early on the First Asian woman firefighter and ESPN. Y Yes I mean. The FDA wide probably existed for what three four Hundred Years Ono sixty three hundred gifts more than a century. Yes obviously in. Women firefighter in its history. Yes I was the only for a long time. I recently told us a little bit about that. Like what like. What made you decide to do that? I like if you could just kind of explain to us what's What was that like? Yeah it is a good question because it is very different and unique for someone like me to go into this world but I was recruited by my friend who really wanted to be be. A firefighter actually went to school. Down THE STREET FROM HERE. I went to Parsons School of design studying illustration that yeah yeah. It was kind of more Typical route even though. It's atypical or school. But there are other Asian women who are and My Friend Really WanNa be a firefighter was living in San Francisco. Came back to New York When New York was hiring Just want to put a note in New York. Only hires once every four years just crazy? Yeah and you have to be seventeen and a half two older than twenty nine. So he can't be older than twenty years old to take the test so I happen to be twenty one at the time and my friend was like just kind of thought. I was a great job and I never really was exposed to any civil service jobs like my mom was a nurse and my dad like worked at a lake at an office. You know For Asian Shipping Company. And so I didn't really was exposed firefighters cops or anything like that and so I got dragged to this orientation that the fire department was having was first time. I met women firefighters and they showed. It was a really corny presentation They showed us like they. Call us. Sizzle reel fire like Microsoft word. Who SO QUIRKY EVENT CALENDARS NO? Hell no hell no it. Was you know honestly it was looking at the other women and seeing how diverse they were me like? They were like short women's hall when they were League. Normal looking. Women are different than them. If they can do it. You know Addis predisposition thought of what that person looked like right as like a normal person would like firefighter. Thousand Two right after nine eleven. It was right after nine. Eleven and everything in the media was not just a man but a white man And how brave they were and this and that and you know. I guess it was more a fear of like. I don't WanNa die like going to work. It was three hundred forty. Three people died that day and it was like this horrible thing that happened. Everyone's like Kinda shellshocked But then you know they addressed it at Orientation. They said like the trainings really good. You get to help people I went to art school after that. I was in communion organizing worked in the nonprofit world for awhile and you know at the end of the day just wanted to help people The nonprofit world doesn't pay very much and I saw how much firefighters were making union job all the retirement. You Know My pension it's twenty years and retire and I'll say oh I can retire my forties. This is great. You know I was really like bought into a and being the first Asian woman I knew at the time I would have been the first one so that really was appealing to me to to break that barrier so I just like went

Wow. Over a thousand seventeen years later, and that's just the firefighters. Add to the the the police officers and federal agents FBI anybody right normal, normal bystander. Right. All pitched in to try to help it that horrific time seventeen years ago today are paying the price with their lives. Seventeen years later in the count continues and the money that was set up for helping those people is going to run out. And so they're they're the people in charge.
