College Basketball Star Killed in Latest Round of Gun Violence

"College basketball star home from summer break was killed by a stray bullet and 8 people were wounded when a shooting erupted in Harlem at a harder Harlem rapper's Father's Day cookout earlier Monday, police say. So this pretty much just happened. What a very sad when I say Monday morning, I'm pretty sure it was through the night, but what a sad occurrence. A young star for what I read this kid was an amazing talent, he was going to go off probably to be able to raise his family and next generations out of poverty. Going on to be a probably an NBA star and do really well. According to people that make commentary about the young man who says the greatest kid ever, he was a good kid. And it's unfortunately because it's always seems like it always seems like these negative things happen to young good men. When you look at the inner city violence, it is shameful. And nobody wants to talk about it.

Why Masculinity Must Be Celebrated

"You know it's kind of funny. I really wonderful and overly kind introduction to say one of the best broadcasters. The only thing I think or one of the things, rather, that makes a good broadcaster a good broadcaster is the knowledge of when they should stop talking and let somebody else who can say it better say it. You're going to be a great broadcaster by not saying something and letting somebody else say it better and I'm about to do that. Normally I won't play something long form more than probably a minute and a half in terms of an audio sound bite, but when we're talking about a prager U video, I'll just play the whole doggone thing. I'll play all four minutes and 54 seconds of it if it's something that is said better than I can say it. And since we're talking about Father's Day here as we begin our number two of the Dennis prager show, if you missed the first hour, we've been talking about the importance of fathers and we've been talking about the importance of masculinity in kids lives. Masculinity is not toxic or at least masculinity should not be considered by default toxic. Any more than white skin or light skin should be considered the skin of an oppressor. Just because there have been people with that color skin who ever pressed in the past. Just like people with darker colored skin should not be considered victims because there have been people with darker colored skin that have been victimized in the past. That's what CRT does, critical race theory. Well, when it comes to what we're talking about here, men and women, fathers and mothers, gender roles in raising families. I think it's extraordinarily important to recognize that just because someone is male and masculine, it doesn't make them toxic. Masculinity must be revered, it must be, it must be appreciated for what it can do and does do particularly in the context of families and raising children.

MyPillow Products Are Perfect for Father's Day

"But in the meantime, as we kick things off, it's a Friday, June the 17th. First of all, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love you gave Mike lindell and my pillow yesterday with purchasing my pillow products after the news broke that Walmart has canceled my pillow. It's going to be a tough, tough blow for the my pillow family. Walmart is woke like Disney like AmEx, like Major League Baseball, like all of these corporations, job creators network is fighting back. They got a big billboard, a new billboard on Times Square, go woke and go broke. They're fighting back against these woke politically correct cowardly corporations, but I said to you, if you go to my pillow dot com and click on the mic Gallagher radio specials box and click the promo and enter the promo code Mike G and you'll save a bunch of money on the slippers in the bathrobes and the doggy beds and the pillows. You're going to be supporting my pillow at a time when they really need it. A lot of people I met last night here in South Carolina told me they did just that yesterday. I saw the sales numbers tens and tens of thousands of dollars of orders. Let's keep it going, please. Go to my pillow dot com. Let's show Mike lindell and my pillow. How much we support them and love them. And we don't give a rat's rear end what Walmart does. Shame on Walmart for caving, shame on the politically correct crowd being afraid of the woke Twitter mob. So support my pillow. Be a great time. And here's a great Father's Day gift. I know Father's Day is this weekend. You won't get the slippers in time. Dad's gonna love these slippers. Dad's gonna love the bathrobe. Dad's gonna love the loungewear. Here's what you do. Or order the slippers or one of the great MyPillow products for dad for Father's Day, and then print it out on your printer. Print out the sheet from your confirmation form, put that in a box, give it to dad for Father's Day and then he'll get the slippers very

Obama Gets It Right... When It Comes to Fatherhood

"Now I read Obama's first book. Dreams of my father. It was a very well written book. Some people don't think Obama wrote it. Bill ayers once at a public meeting, public discussion, public speech. Said something to the effect of, let's assume for a moment that I did write the book. Because a lot of people speculate that the writing style resembles the writing style of Bill ayers who is a very good writer. And if Bill ayers did write it, I would imagine he's chafing a little bit at the idea that he doesn't get any credit for it. But I have heard that Bill ayers wrote the book, wrote most of the book. Because Obama was having difficulty writing it. In any case, the book was about the angst he had for not having a father in his life, biological father to life. He made his biological father a couple times the last time he saw him. He was ten years old. That was it. Obama even lied to his classmates and said his father was a African chieftain and that's why his father couldn't come to the states and be there. The father, by the way, was a economist with a PhD from Harvard. He's also a Marxist. Who believed in a 100% taxation. I kid you not. But the point is that the book was all about Obama's angst and not having a father. And when Obama ran for president in 2008, he did say something about the urgency that men own up to their responsibilities, and you heard me quote him many times when he said a kid raised without a father with 5 times more likely to be poor and committed crime 9 times more likely to drop out of school. And 20 times more likely to end up in jail. And when Obama made that speech, I believe was on Father's Day. Jesse Jackson criticize him. For talking down to black people. An Obama the next several years rarely reiterate what he said about the need for a kid to be in his father's

Britney Spears Apologizes for Pretending to Be Okay

"We're gonna have heavy show today because we're talking about this britney spears thing. She posted a brand new posts on. I g and she admits she made everything seemed like she was living a fairy tale life on instagram. When her life was anything but pervert she apologizes for pretending. Like i've been okay the past two years. I did it because of my pride. And i was embarrassed to share what happened to me but honestly who doesn't want to capture their instagram enough light. Do you guys understand why britney it seem like she was hunky dory impeaching absolutely. I think exactly what she just said. I feel like instrument first of all. This is like the debate about instagram. Right it's like how authentic is it. How real is everybody is what people showing. You is that authentic. I just feel like it's one of those things where you need to find a happy balance. And i think britney was going through stuff that none of us can even imagine in our wildest dreams and i think that was probably an escape for her to be able to just dance and put up some fun videos and not constantly reminded about the reality that she has been living in thirteen years percents. You probably did feel like people are not gonna believe me well and i feel like it's a weird litmus test that we have to go back in and say oh she's well. She's acted this way on instagram. As if that's like indu into everyone's lives no. Nobody really knows what goes on behind grams per one hundred but its survival like we all do. The Power of Fathers

"Have a power like no other fathers have enormous power in the lives of their kids. And that's what i really wanna talk to you about. Today i'm going to talk about three realities of fathers and you know it's interesting because some of you may be thinking we'll to talk about dads one time. When i was giving a lecture a man stood up and said what makes you think that you are an expert on men or fathers. And i said sir i'm not i said i'm not a man. I'm not a father. And i'm really not an experts on father's but here's what i do know. I do know kids. And i know what kids want from their fathers and need from their fathers and how they see their father so my role as a pediatrician is to help you. Dads take a look at yourself through. Your kids is whether you have a son or a daughter because i believe if you could just see who you are them from their perspective for thirty seconds or a minute your life had never be the same. I wrote a book called hero being the strong father. Your children need and you can't believe how many dads didn't like the title. They came to me and said. I'm not i'm not a hero. I don't play nba basketball. I don't play in the nfl. i haven't made a lot of money. I don't even have a great relationship with my kid. I said that's not the point. That's not what the title hero means in. Your kids is your hero and dad's like well i don't i still don't know or they react very strongly. No i'm not. No i'm not. I can't be my kids hero. Well then i would ask as why. Are you reacting so strongly. Chances are you're acting very strongly because you wanted that in your debt and you didn't have it so you're very angry at the whole idea of fatherhood but you're kid isn't so you need to look at yourself from perspective of your kid no matter where you are or what your relationship is like whether you've never met your kid by the you're in jail whether you're a ceo of a fortune five hundred company and you never see your kid. You need to know this. You are your child's hero because your child wants you to

Digital Teleconverters Are Better than You Might Think

"Today. I'm going to talk about the joy of digital tele converters honest. I'm serious. This is not a joke. I'm really going to talk about how cool these things are now. I'm going to start with a story from fathers day which just happened I'm recording this on monday. So this was yesterday and my two boys live down in the santa clara area. And i'm in santa rosa. So san francisco is sort of like halfway in between so they set up the sing where we would meet Down in san francisco Around the presidio area which is just this lovely beautiful area part of san francisco and so we'd meet down there and they arranged for some takeout and we're going to eat out on this great green expanse at the presidio. Were just beautiful. People go there and they just hang out and picnic and families come and then after we had our picnic and so forth They had a walk planned and we kind of walk along crissy field in some nice views of the golden gate bridge and the city itself. So i knew that You know where we're gonna be someone to make sure. I had a camera with me. But i also knew that i wanted to travel light. This wasn't a day for me to you. Know have a bunch of photos care. And be. Like one of those dads. This was a day for me to enjoy and spend time with my boy. So i wanted to travel light well. I'm sure that's a huge shock to you right. Of course. I wanted to travel i. I almost always wanted to travel light. Regardless so i packed in my pocket. I had the iphone twelve pro. Max and i thought that would be particularly useful for the ultrawide if i needed it in a does have that. You know that to axe telephoto there. But i was more in the mood to shoot with fuji film. The x one hundred v is this that kind of day. I don't know i just. It just felt good to hold it in the hand and everything so my iphone stayed in my pocket all day. I never. I never used it once but i did pull out the x one hundred eighty. So we're taking our walk. And i i see some shots when we when we get near the water Played around with some shots with the golden gate bridge in the background in some really cool things in the foreground. That was fun in the thirty five millimeter. Equivalent lands of the excellent hundred v Was fantastic for that. It really was. It was great so that was all going really well. But then we kind of reversed direction. We went back the other way and the view that right away caught. My eye was the san francisco skyline with a kind of a semi low hanging clouds bank. So he had a little bit of blue right behind the buildings. Some fog above it a love that kind of sandwich. Look it's it's really gorgeous and in the foreground right in front of the city was the dome from the palace of fine arts. Going man has really nice. And then i had some good stuff to work within the foreground in front of that even so i'm going. That is a shot. i wanna do. I know a little bit of a postcard. Shaba does kind of an unusual angle and the lighting was really good. And i just wanted. The shooter is wanted to shoot him.

Before You Call Preflop, Complete This Sentence

"It comes to calling pre flop. I have a really important father's day tip for you before you call complete this sentence right here. I'm happy calling here with blank. Hand against blink player in this position so if you can complete that sentence and you know you're happy calling here then go ahead and call like for example you could say something like i'm happy here calling with king jack suited versus this flop on player. Who has a wide range. Even though i'm giving him position if the situation sounds good when you put it out into into a full sentence like that then go ahead make the call but if it sounds like a dangerous unprofitable ugly situation to be in. Do not make the call for example. Maybe you complete the sentence and you say something like i'm not happy calling with jackie suited versus this aggressive smart player from out of position in the small blind. If you say something like that. I mean that sounds like a terrible spot right given one of the best players to the table position against you in all you have is a jacket suited. And he was the open razor. Yeah if it sounds like a crap spot to put yourself in go ahead and fold

"To get it right. This is the tony kornheiser show. This comes to us from brayden nelson. Who says we are charlotte. North carolina ban that hatch two years ago called deaf andrews we make melodic rock music along the lines of incubus chili peppers etc incubus. I don't know feel free to listen to and use any of our music on the show. We hope you like the music. And we hope you use it. Brayden nelson writes from defenders. This is justified. This plays in steve sands who just a few hours back. What is it what are you reaching for. I was gonna take the paper from if you don with. I know what i'm doing here. Just a few hours ago. Steve had to vamp as the flyover may or may not have gotten over torrey pines. How did that feel waiting. Waiting to be drowned out by five miller. Four or five military jets all for the military. And i'm all for celebrating the military but flyovers on live television or rule man. Yeah my goodness. We had rehearsal on saturday night after the last. Putt dropped just for that. It's not art deal it's the. Us she as deal with that. We might never in your info. Tv person would ever decide to ever fly over ever known so the they wanted to have to have the rehearsal you know and the one question director head was. Is it going to be on time. Never promised it would never know now. A missed a missed by a long long time yesterday. My goodness was my My earpiece was allowed. Tony as you would know. I would know who i know how that goes so sands took the red eye home and we're catching them before he goes to sleep. Which is great. I this is this question. Is the one question so much happened yesterday. Not just in the back nine to shambo but but so much happened yesterday. So many people withdrew themselves from contention if you had to use one sentenced to the lead sentence on the story about the us open. What would the lead sentence be in your mind. Well the leads ends. Would all would be that jon. Rahm became the fourth person in the history of the us. Open to birdie the final two holes to win. And i would also and i'm not a writer i always wanted to be tony kornheiser but my journalism professors in college told me i could rights. I might wanna try television. So i you know other than the wrong story to me. Tis shambo mcelroy. More calla brooks kepco. All where at least three-under-par. Tony all of them were at least three-under-par some of them were at four and five under par and completely retreated so to me. It was a tremendous week and it was an awesome. Us open it. The true us open broke out late yesterday. And i thought that was a really cool thing. I thought it was great for the golf course. Great for the audience enough. It was great golf. Even though there was a lot of carnage it was messy out there. Some of those. Some of those guys are the best players in the world and it was a mess. Man it. it's very interesting to me. That on saturday early on saturday you had a leader board. That was a it was nothing special. It had planned on it. It had hanley on it. It had mackenzie and you just say okay. They're good players. But but by the fifth hole yesterday you had one of the great leaderboards. I'd ever see right. I mean you had big time guys yesterday by the fifth hole and they all other than rahm receded. Now i know. I think everybody thinks rahm is worthy and rama's going to be a great player. I think phil because of the arizona state connection phil loves them. You know when all of that. I don't know if he's a great player yet but he ended great. He ended that thing great. Didn't he great and he is a great player. Tony this is just a culmination of all the things he's accomplished. he's only twenty six years of age. Another example of these guys in their twenties coming out and winning big big early and i. It's amazing to me how these guys continue to pile these major championships up now to be considered really really great in the sport. You doing multiple major so justin. Thomas won his early in his twenties. Now he hasn't won one. In four years jordan speeds one three of them kept his one. Four them macaroni. One four of them more cows got one roms got one. A lot of young guys are winning these major championships. And that's a good thing for gold. But there's no question john jon. Rahm is worthy of being a major champion. He is going to win multiple major. He is a great great player and won't be interesting to see is if he can surpass. I think you will pass jose maria foul Who went to masters and he might catch. Seventy five. Is the greatest spaniard of all time. She alluded a savvy yesterday when we chatted with him at first time. So i don't know. I i think jon rahm is a fabulous fabulous player And i think that he is going to win many majors. As long as he stays healthy and motivated. Which surprised you more. Rory going backwards or shambo going backwards. Rory has gone backwards in the last few so like you and text text each other all weekend about rory already told me on monday or tuesday i forget what day we spoke about a preview. In the uso of a rory said this is a great venue for me He does not have to wedge it a lot and he thinks that it's perfectly set up for him and it was and then he made a horrific shot on the ninth hole to par-five and it was with a wedge. He didn't have to hit a lot of wedges the when he did hit a wedge it really halted his momentum when he hit that ball in the ninth goal above the whole which many had to putt defensively for birdie which many had no chance to make it as opposed. Just cozying it up there which all great players do and tapping it in from underneath the whole that change the arc of his round But the bigger surprise to me was dis- shambo Because of the way he was playing the the game plan implemented he had done so to perfection for him and then he just fell apart. And i think that one of the most fascinating things to me about professional sports zone all sports high school sports college sports professional. Sports pressure is the great equalizer. And when you have a us open on the line and you've.

"What about high school. Are you looking forward to the most. You know your your overall highschool experience definitely the fun activities and the dances dances as something. He didn't get to do during cohen No i mean high. School dances aren't usually for freshman's anyways. So i didn't really miss any fun. Things dear dear friends have the same kind of feelings as you about going back to school or do you have friends who had different opinions you. Did you have friends who felt like they should to get back to school sooner or they don't wanna go back to school. I mean i think my friends and i all agree that Online school is not the best choice for us and that in person we would get to experience a lot more so yeah. We all agree. That in person is a better choice. Do you have friends. Who live outside of san francisco. Who had a different experienced than what you had No i don't have any friends. Who live outside san francisco except for To college students in new york and they had to corentin on campus Get covid tested several times a week. Do you get any idea. Like from looking at social media talking to people about if life is different in cities and towns for kids your age and what they have to deal with with going to school and sheltering in place I think there's definitely different rules. throughout each state But i know that california has been very strict about letting people go back to school But i can't really speak for other states. I know that many other states have allowed their kids to go back to school earlier than they should of. How do you and your friends keep in touch you you guys. Were you able to see lot of each other in person or was it. Just all like staying in touch on social media. I mean it was both we got to see each each other a law in person and we also like to face time and keep touch over social media and text as well is a different having a friendship that's an online friendship versus a in person. Friendship i sure because in person friendships are more sentimental and you can actually in the wracked with each other but with online friendships eat. Don't really get to know the person as well and you only get to know a few things that they're interested in which is a lot harder than getting to know. The person in person are having a good summer vacation so far. Guess what have you been doing the you're enjoying. What are you looking forward to for the rest of the summer. well i. I got reconnected with a friend. That i haven't talked to a while and i got to go to napa with my mom and a friend which was pretty fun and then later this summer i'm going to new york and a lake with my mom's side of the family. That sounds like fun. So overall had you like living in san francisco as a teenager. I mean there's definitely pros and cons. I would say some pros are that. It's a beautiful city. There's a lot of interesting places to go to and most things are. You can walk to and you don't have to take a car a lot but on the other hand some cons would be that. The weather is very unpredictable. And if you've lived here a long time and you've done most of the things there are to do then they can get Pretty boring easily. Do you think it's like that any place you'd grow up more is. Is that unique to san francisco. I mean i think it's any place you grow up But there are definitely some things that you can only do or get in san francisco when you graduate from high school. Do you think you'll want to stay in san francisco or do you think you'll wanna go somewhere else. I mean my dream would be to go to college in la but or somewhere else in the bay area. But i would not wanna stay in san francisco after college. And why is the. Because i've just kind of grown out of the city but I definitely like my school. Which is in san francisco. And i will may be visit some places that i haven't seen before. Do you think after you go away. Maybe go to college somewhere else that someday you might wanna come back and live in san francisco. I mean i probably wouldn't want to live in san francisco. But i would definitely come back and visit friends and family if they're still living san francisco. And why wouldn't you wanna live in san francisco after you graduate college. Because i want a new taste of surroundings. And since i've been in san francisco for basically my entire life i want more activity. That's not in san francisco. You don't feel like you'd like to live here as an adult and maybe help make this place what it is. I mean i would maybe come back and help around a little bit. But i wouldn't stay permanently do you find. Do you ever talk to other kids. Growing up in san francisco and find that they all wanna leave to or do some of them want to stay or do they even know well. I talked to one or two people and they said that they likes and they would like disdain san francisco and i also talked to some other people and they haven't decided whether to stay or leave san francisco do you pay attention to The people who are running san francisco.

"The two of us. Okay all right all right. Salo helo what's your name lily and this is justin and you're my daughter and now and it's father's day yep so we thought we would Just have a special time mir between the two of us all right and What did we do today. For father's day we went bowling. That was fun. Yep what is father's day mean to you. It's a day the celebrate how great fathers are also day for fathers to appreciate the people who love them in their life and yearly only person who makes me father. You're the only child i have so i'm extra appreciative for you. Well thank you. I appreciate you too so How's this past year since last father's day ben for you. It's definitely been a roller coaster. I mean school being online. And kovic. Heading and i just have learned to appreciate my father even more and i have lots of admiration for you and how amazing you did. Under the circumstances having to go to your first year of high school a new school all new kids on new teachers and all online. How did you even manage to do well. It was definitely a challenge. But i managed to go to all my classes and get decent grades. I think you're Selling yourself short there. You didn't get just decent grades you got you got straight as he. I pretty much got stray as you do that all online. That's pretty amazing. Yep did you feel like you made any kind of connection to the kids are teachers at your new school. I definitely feel like. I learned a bit about other people and how they work and i learned about a lot about my teachers and how they teach the class. Did you make any new friends. I didn't necessarily make any new friends. But i did. Start talking to some people Overtaxed friends from middle school who went through the same thing going to new high schools different high schools than yours. And were you guys able to support each other during the time. Yeah we were definitely supporting each other and helping each other up to make sure that we all stay sane. Were there times where you felt isolated or lonely or anything like that while you were having to do online school. A new school. I definitely felt lonely at times But i think for the most part i was able to Dedicate myself to school and not worry too much about what's going on on the outside and would you have rather gone back to school earlier or were you did. Did you prefer doing online school. Well in school is definitely the easier choice. But i think under the circumstances that we were put then i feel like they made the right choice by having online school. Be the whole year. Because i feel like if we went back early. It would've been too soon and cloven could have gone more out of hand. Do you have any concerns about going. Back to school in the fall in person I mean i think everybody has some concerned but my concerns are very minor I just hope that most people are vaccinated by that time and that not people are still not vaccinated. Are you looking forward to going back to school. It'll definitely looking forward to the most Probably meeting new people and meeting my teachers in person..

"father day" Discussed on THE BRENDON SHOW

"It's sunday and this particular. Sunday and growth day just happens to be father's day so to all the good fathers the great fathers those stri and striving to be good to their kids. I celebrate tuesday happy father's day. I hope you have a wonderful day to those who had a great dad or positive influence in your life. Please call them. Text them or if they're no longer here celebrate them in some way by sharing some life lessons and values you learned from them with those around. You were out in the world if you didn't have a good father. I hope that you have found a way for yourself now to love yourself but to be an example and to share the love out in the world that maybe you didn't feel like you received. I think we all have positive and negative influences and we can learn from them all on a day like this for me. Many of you know my dad was my hero and my greatest mentor. And so i thought for the special episode. I would just play for you a interview. I was backstage in event. And they were asking me to talk about. My dad is my greatest influence. And i just thought it'd be specialty. Do something unique here on gurvey. This beautiful sunday. I hope you enjoy it. Hey i'm behind the scenes and event right now and i was asked to talk about who my hero is in my life and i get asked this a lot by. I realized that. I've actually never shot video on this So i'd love to tell that story limit. My hero is my dad and many guys were with me. As i built my brand and my business in my life when my dad passed away so dad passed away in two thousand nine to acute myeloid leukemia. He was healthy and good and literally like on mother's day he wakes up. He's walking down the hallway and he kind of felt a little off and he grabbed his side. And my mom's said what's wrong with us. I just feel funny. Sat down his his back. Inside was hurting throughout breakfast. He was feeling funny. I'm said well let's figure out what's going on. So he went to hospital and within two hours. They let them know. Hey we've done some tests here and your spleen is enlarged. Wander few more tests. We think you you might. Have you know who came in. And of course he's like had no context of this and literally. The doctors gave him seven. Days to live. Hadn't been sick or anything. If you know about leukemia there's two kinds of am l. q. Myeloid leukemia it. Merely just takes over your body and very few people live let alone months dad who was a marine and spent twenty years in the marines did three tours. In vietnam gunnery sergeant. He made it nine days. And during that time i got to be with the most of the time and i remember just so fearful of losing him because he'd been such a hero in my life and i asked him if i could interview him and i was. I was a little traveling. When i found out that they said his third round of chemo didn't work and they were suggesting he go home and enter hospice and pass away and so i called him. I didn't know if i was going to get there on time. I was so terrified. I just happened to be on a trip and i interview over the phone and i recorded in and i showed that with you because if your parents or here your caregiver your loved one your grandma somebody you really care about the. It'd be a beautiful thing for you. Sit down and interview them. I just interviewing with phone recorded. And i asked him like thirty questions about life has asked that about how you grew up. And what he learned from his parents or do you hope you know what do you hope for life what you love. What made him successful or struggle. With how do you meet my mom. What he wanted to each of us kids to know about life. And what message do you want to leave us. These kinds of things and he shared something with me in that area. That was so amazing because he'd actually always said it through our lives in different ways. I never really realized it and they was just. I didn't realize how intentionally. Because when i ask you what something you know what some advice you want to give all of us. And he basically said seven things that i realized that said them he'd been teaching us that all of our life and what he said to us you know be yourself be honest take care of your family treat people with respect be a good citizen. Follow your dreams. Do your best you know he was always saying these things to us and even as i say them i. It's weird to be hearing so it's hard to talk to you guys a little bit. But it's like it really was one of the greatest blessings. I gave myself recording in because now every year on the day that he passed and every year on his birthday. I try to listen to the audio. I mean sometimes. I can't because it's just hard to hear his voice and i miss him so much but i also am grateful. I have. I encourage you to record interview. The people you love but also because you know so-called it has. I started my career. Many guys were with me the very beginning when i wrote my first book called life's golden ticket and my dad got to see that published and i decided i wanted to bring life's golden ticket like to life so if you ever red lights tickets parable. It's a story about a man who experiences some transformational magic at the circus. And he's like kind of opens up and change at the search. I don't tell the whole story. But so i decided bring the book to life and i literally rented like the mexican national circus and had like their tents and you know all of their performers and we took over the city in long beach. And we know. Had you know all these people come to attend this event which was like a personal development seminar a tent revival right but my dad got to come and see and and being the old gun sergeant. He was five. Am in the morning carrying boxes. Helping us put together just doing everything to help out the staff and the team and motivating them and he was so proud to see son do his thing and even though the thing was kinda fallen apart the whole time. I didn't know what i was doing. I never done that kind of seminar. Had no money. I was constantly stressed and everything else. He got to see his son do his thing and i just tell you you know what the greatest gift you can ever give in. Your life isn't about how much money you make what you succeed at. It's the people around you get to see you do your thing and that would be my dad's last summer with me. He would come out at the end after volunteering. We work so hard and he came out. And i had his hand my moms hand and raise it up in that. It was just so happy and i know not. Everybody gets that blessing with their parents or with their loved ones or with their caregivers or the people admire. But it's one of the great moments in my life because my dad was my hero growing up because he told me those things and i became who i am because he told me those things and i still work and try to connect with him motioning spiritually all the time. Because i'm always remember what he taught me what i wanted to live life so that he's proud and i'm honored that he got to see. His son tried to live his dream. No matter what level at chief. D- i mean one of the greatest gift you can give is live your dream like chase the things that inspire you because just people seeing that it brings a magic into the world so i hope maybe this episode makes you guys think about someone you admire and the message they taught you and that you try to carry it on in your life..

"The best part about being a single parent. And here's what she had to say. Tell me what has it been like to raise five kids full boys and a girl. It will experience from hail but it was fun at times. Good i'd enjoy it. I will do it all over again. Y'all know trouble. What was the best part to know. Y'all school being a parent is always a wonderful thing but also being a comes with a lot of worry not knowing if you're doing it right sleepless nights as your kids get older. I grew up in the eighties. So i think tom's we're a little bit different than they are now. I grew up in the country. As well and i felt so much safer back then. There was no such thing in the country as having a locked door. I remember our door being unlocked until we in the morning like it just wasn't something. You did automatic now in broad daylight. The first thing you do is lock your doors. So when you think about being a parent. Nail as times have changed. There's a lot of worry. There's a lot to teach your kids and you have to have a lot more open communication and a lot of different Talks with your kids. I know as a parent of two girls. One of those things is talking about. Inappropriate touching you have to talk about bullying. You have to talk about sexual preferences. There's just so much going on and now more than ever we see more and more school shootings and violence that we didn't necessarily see before you saw it but now it's like it's everywhere. It's not just isolated in this part because that's considered you know a rough neighborhood or a bad neighborhood it's everywhere so we have to constantly have talks with our kids about what's going on and there's been a lot of different research as far as the impact that dads have in the life of their children and all of the research has shown that having kids father's actively in their lives have really helped improve their self esteem really gave them that sense of security that they could do anything that they wanted to do and i feel that even though my dad wasn't there my brothers they took up that mantle for me my older brother he was that father figure for us for so long and still is when any of us need someone to go to to talk to. He's it he's our mentor. He's our big brother bo. We we understood that even at a young age that he was taking on that role as man of the house and he really stepped up and he did a wonderful job and he is also a great debt of three young men. So shot out to my brother. Maurice shut out to all of my brothers For just being amazing men and all the rest of the men as well. I talked to a couple of my co workers and friends about having their father in their life and what that looked like and what it meant for them to have their father their the impact of that and this is what they had to say. When it comes to your father and you thinking about fathers day what impact. Do you feel like your father. Had on you growing up as my impact on my father has me in my life except my my father..

"The Maison with Kevin Nation. Today is Father's day, and I'm going down a rabbit hole, thinking back to my younger days growing up, when we go out on, Father's Day to Baskin-Robbins, have some ice cream. And the one thing that always drove me crazy, if I didn't get a cone, if I got a cup or a Sunday or something, is they always wanted to give you one of those little teeny tiny plastic spoons and not the big long spoon. Some people call the Sun a spoon, some people call it an iced tea spoon. I just call it the big long spoon, you know, the big long thin spoon, with a handle that's about what, three or four inches long. And I thought to myself to this day, I still have a problem with ice cream places, giving me a short spoon. I know it's kind of weird association with Father's day, but it's kind of true. I don't know when I graduated up to the big spoon, the Sunday spoon, the ice tea spoon, whatever it was, we got a bunch of them in our silverware drawer and that's my preferred spoon, no matter what. For some reason, song ice cream places want to give you the short spoon drives me crazy. Maybe it's cuz they have big hands. Well I don't know why spoons in general not something. I thought it'd be talking about on Father's Day and how much it's got to do with Dad, your guess is about as good as mine dead.

"We've volunteer for children's causes. We raise money for them. We've become mentors for young men and women and we make sure we're busy making others lives better and then we must acknowledge the fathers who raised their own children and we're the mothers as well as fathers to them. We celebrate them for taking on this incredible challenge and maybe they haven't been properly acknowledged for the years of work effort and missed quiet time. They might have had their wives and children's wonderful. Mothers had not died so soon but unfortunately there were mothers who were neglectful. And you're responsible and wouldn't or couldn't raise their own children for a whole host of reasons including addiction. Mental illness abandonment or others. All these folks feel melancholy father's day. So what can we do to get through this father stay. If our father has died we can always find another older gentleman who has no one and adopted him as our own. Bring him to movies. Take him for walks. Perhaps share a meal together at home or at a restaurant getting out of the house. Laugh with him he might be as close as your neighbor up the block or down the hall. It's difficult life when you're all alone. Perhaps you can donate some time or money to children's charity to honor your dad as you know. My favorite charity is the foundation for grieving children inc which i began many years ago for young people who have experienced the death of a loved one. Make the donation in honor of your dad. See if you can volunteer to mentor. Boys club or girls club in your area. Where a fatherless young boy or girl could use your love and attention. You just happen to know exactly how that feels visit a place that has fond memories for you if your dad would bring you to a ball game. Perhaps you'll share that with a young nephew and rekindle the warm memories you shared with them. Another idea is to enjoy particular food he loved. Is there a certain restaurant. You frequented together a favorite wine or beer. Raise your glass to him. Maybe you'll decide to call some of your father figures in your life or even visit them reminisce about past memories and thank them for the impact they had on your life. You might decide to spend time with the women and men in your life who aren't parents or struggling to become parents. There is a very private grief that few want to hear about be that shoulder for them right. There in the back of their minds floats the thought that they may never have the good fortune of being called mom or dad reach out to another young father with wisdom can give him especially if his father has also died. He will be fortunate for your fatherly council. You might also go to the cemetery to visit or to a place that brought your dad joy like the lake beach or another place which brings back good memories may be even planned a flowering bush or tree in your backyard in his memory. However you decide to remember and celebrate your dad or the other man who graciously served as your father be grateful for their love and all they did for you for fathers who are grieving the children that once grace their lives for just a few moments a few months or a few years that time was precious and especial gift and we celebrate their part in your life's journey for those who are still believing for their little one. I'm believing with you. And for those men who have passed their time to become a dad. I empathize with you. I too will forever have that hurt of not having my own. I've chosen to concentrate my time and give my love to those who appreciate it. Whenever your circumstances. No that fatherhood comes in so many forms. We don't need a label to make a younger person or a other father figure feel cherished so now it's time to get up. Move our bodies. I'm dan stance if.

"As to the grandfather uncle godfather or other male relative. You consider your dad. Perhaps it wasn't adoptive father and mother who wanted so much to love her child that they couldn't have and one day you were placed in your adoptive mother's arms and he felt so blessed to have you to raise and love. Perhaps it was a foster father who wanted so much to give a child a good home which you longed for. You might have been floating from home to home and finally you found him and your foster mother the one who was stable and loving and wanted to make sure you are well taken care of the might have even been able to adopt you. He was a strong male figure. You dreamed of and you will forever be grateful for what he did for you. He made the greatest impact on your life. And you miss him terribly. There are also older brothers who stepped in to care for younger siblings. When their parents died young they kept the family going sometimes. Their role goes unnoticed but they took on a job they were never meant to do and he sacrificed an awful lot of his life. Happiness for you the relationships. He never had the parties. He didn't attend the meals. He had to cook the grocery shopping. The cleaning of the home in laundry the college classes he may have had to forgo to make sure you had which you needed. He was a surrogate father to you. Maybe even a mother to so much of his own desires warren experienced but there is a long list of other situations surrounding father's day and grief that many have experienced yet. We often don't acknowledge. And i want to do. So now. there are many fathers who will not have the pleasure of their children's company their share because they have predeceased them. No father ever believes that he will live longer than his children. If you've experienced the death of child or children maybe even all your children you might feel like you cannot call yourself a father any longer and i'm here to tell you that is certainly not the case. You are still a dad. Only now your child or children are with you in spirit and they will always be there with you. Your relationship with your children was cut short and the pain is severe weather. Family of friends acknowledged. Stay or not. I want to acknowledge it. Happy father's day to you. We remember them today with you in spirit sometimes for men. It's not an actual loss of a father. That is difficult to grave. It can also be what has an occurred that can affect you on a day like today. Men who are grieving children that they never had. They waited too long. They decided career was more important. And now they regret it or simply. Didn't find the right woman or partner to build a family. With and now they are in their forties or older and they feel they don't want to bring a child into the world so late in life. These are incredible. Man who all their lives believed at some point they become dads and now in their latter years still wonder what would have been like had their lives. Circumstances been different. Had life taken a different turn and they would have been called daddy. And what about the dad who said yes to put their child up for adoption when they were quite young they may still be grieving for that child in wondering where they might be could they be passing them in the street. Do they think about them. Especially on father's day. Do they hope they are safe. And well for my adoptive father's. I want to tell you that you are truly special. I realized this day may bring painful memories and guilt of what you couldn't give your child at the time but do you realize how selfless it is to make sure your little one was cared for properly. I can't think of a more important decision. You should feel a sense of peace that you did the right thing when perhaps the right thing wasn't happening in your own life back then you put your feelings and concerns aside to ensure your little one would have a better life. Feel peace in your soul for that on this day. He or she will always always beer child. You just decided another family would raise them for you and for men who are grieving. The children that they almost had men who endured with their wives the miscarriage or stillbirth of child. Perhaps their wives are still struggling to bear children. But can't keep a pregnancy if you've experienced miscarriage or stillbirth in your family. I am here to validate your loss. They will always be child always and for those who are working on becoming pregnant. Reach out to friends who have young ones and get involved with their lives. Being around little ones will help you up from the feelings of despair and although it may seem difficult in the beginning it can be a great blessing in vision. How it will look when you're bringing up your little one when you're bringing them to the playground and changing their diapers and wanting them laugh as you talk baby talk to them. There are men who strive to have their wives become pregnant and they have achieved that goal yet. Their wives have never had the honor to even become pregnant for a whole host of reasons women and men who are grieving the children. They couldn't have did everything they could to get pregnant. And yet it still hasn't happened for all the men and women who are not blessed with little ones we are a rather large bunch it seems we are the ones who dote on the nieces and nephews and other children. We have fun texting messages. Mailing calling sending photos and laughing over. Funny jokes sure. It took us years to settle within ourselves. That the dream would probably never come true. We struggled with it for a long time. And eventually we figured out another way to celebrate all the passions we had..

How To Figure Out Your Child's Love Languages

Motherhood in Black & White

How To Figure Out Your Child's Love Languages

"It is important for us to know what our kids love languages. Because that's the currency in which they operate right but we also know that with children. It can change like their language changes right from for mommy to bra. Their love languages can change as they grow and adapt. So how can you in. Maybe if you know terror how can how can a mother kind of like figure out what their kids love languages. What are what are some things that you've done. I think for me what i've done. I've done this even with my husband. 'cause i don't know if they would sit down and do the quiz but anyway what i looked for are the cues. I see either a one or both of them gets upset with me about something and the thing that they asked me to do. Different is usually tied to eleve- language like gauge gets upset with me. And it's because you know we never do anything you know what i mean. Then i'm like okay. He's looking for some quality time here or my husband gets upset. And he's like you never we know. Give me a hug when i get home. And i'm like okay. So he's looking for so. I often look for it in those times. And also when i do things that lights them up early for both ways a they're mad at me and they tell me straight up what they need i go. Oh that's this or be. They are really excited. Because i did something i'm like. Oh they really like this. So that's kind of how. I look for the queues. A lot of times we as parents or human beings you tend to project what you want on other. Yes in so. I think that for me. That's what makes it most challenging having a partner and also a child who are different than me with the way that they receive love. Yes because i share with people. Like this is what i would want. I would want a new car right tonight. That would totally set me on christmas. I'll be like. Oh yeah. I don't i don't want hugs. I went gipson. I want you to do the laundry for me. Like you said. Riaa so one of the things for me that i need to do. Even with other members of family and friends that i love dearly is understand that it's important to love the way that that person receives loans Not the way that you tend to receive

"I mean parenting is as by far You know to me. It's it's there's nothing comes close to compare When you actually have someone's life who you're responsible for year provide guidance to so Know don't take lightly or her responsibilities are you know they don't stop what's there Wants to make that baby. You move on away. You know you have to be there be present. Do as much as you can. I know everyone isn't you know doesn't have that same mentality or everyone's different and in a way of thinking or where financial situation is but be the best version of a father that you could be in. Continue to try to work and be better at it every day. I think quincy now the right on the head. Our children are blessed from above and they deserve all of us so as women and men we have to ensure that we give them the best version of ourselves and put any differences aside to ensure that there needs always come i. I know that. I'm not a single mother but i can only imagine what my bad attitude especially when someone does me wrong high would be in a lot of these situations that a single mother finds herself in so i would just say stay encouraged leisure village because it surely takes one. "Obviously there's cases for every situation but who ended up in no saying type of negative situations where they didn't have they were in jail or end up being victim to the street so It definitely is beneficial having both you know from what i've seen in knowing again as just based off my experience but Obviously there's success stories for everyone you know you can. There's also plenty that you know that you can look at yourself as one who does not have did not grow up with bill families and and and that can sometimes another drive within people who want make sure that they break those curses But that's not what isn't it. That's not what everyone's dna so everyone's not cut out to do that. And unfortunately not. I think that you know it kinda takes when you do have that absentee parent it. Tate's having someone along the line. Somewhere in life Preferably earlier on in life. That is gonna step in kinda take that role in shape you and push you in the right direction. I mean it was more norm for me. with friends any family members being in the same situation of not having a parent and like you said not having the other parent Bother and basically a lot of people who are grew up with are no longer here or either like you said there. They are in prison And i don't know if that's directly a result of being raised biasing mother or being raised in a hood or you know what it relates to. But i can definitely you know account for that. I mean we think about it. It's like okay. We'll say for instance you don't have a father in the house of the mother is the only one who's there to can provide so she's often If she is working she's working a lot more hours so the kids have a lot more time to themselves She hasn't it's very especially in and most of the cities that You have a high concentration african americans in speaking of general debt. There's a lot fewer opportunities so the the income level is very low So you think you're forced to live in housing in situations where it's not an ideal situation so now you have your kids who are out on the streets or time too much time narrow hands with no pair parental guidance. Because you know either moms or at work or whether the case may be and you have all the influences from Improper area. Who's jaw all the energy for them. So all they see is people in the streets hustling. You know money's struggles amount you gotta figure out you know. Mom can't take care of me. She can't financially. Give me the things that i often want or sometimes even need so then you're kind of You look at other ways to avenues to to make that money so And that's i think that's what kind of starts that curse but I think a lot of it has also driven by society and You know. I think a lot of it was designed to When you look at in terms of minority communities but dot by designed to imprison are blackmails especially in latino males at a much higher percentage and for a lot longer time so now. They're out of the picture altogether. So i think it's another way is to destroy our communities as well But then you know now. We're trying to make amends for that and it's still not if it's still difficult because you have so much catching up to do in terms of a whole generational people who are Who did not have the same opportunities advantages as others..

"So they're calling it a crisis in they're saying that i'm children raised without a father of four times greater risk of poverty seven times more likely to become pregnant as a teen so the things that he was actually email kind of though in my face where actually things that were caused by him. Not being present in my life More likely to have behavioral problems in to face abuse neglect also on two times gator risk of infant mortality and also more likely to use drugs and alcohol All things that you know. Don't kind of shock me surprised me in. I guess for from a male perspective when you know you're single mother trying to raise a male especially in a low income type area you're also That male or female could be more likely to go go to prison in more likely to commit crying. Quincy what's your thoughts on some of those statistics From what i've experienced what i've seen I think they're right on. I mean when. I just think of growing up and Looking at some of the kids who are with who didn't have those types of same type of family structures as i did and Saw a lot more of them end up in jail or end up being killed or You know end up in the streets drugs or whatever the case may be You know so. It's definitely real. Those are definitely real statistics in and you see the impact that it had Every day and then went on a reverse. I all of the the kids who grew up with the bothers in an mother's on her In their homes. Not not saying that you know. Those are the only ones who had success life at all. Because that's not the case but in terms of overall higher percentage the ones that i saw had dual family help families in our parent homes Had a lot more success later on in life. Even if when i go back you know and still touch base with some of these people were or day stay. They always seem to stay more soul on the right path because they had more guidance in their lives and So you definitely see the difference between You know what people end up doing in terms of their personalized after they become an adult. You know terms of having more success in and And their professional careers or whatever that may be And i can't really say that there's been many instances where assault people who did have two people in their family many up..

"You know i've known all my grandfathers Uncles aunts cousins uncles and cousins who are like uncles and things of that nature. So you're not feel like very fortunate. So i understand how it's easy for even our chil- children to maybe take that for granted Because that's what they know and that's what they see But as we all know that's not nasiri the case for everyone else or a lot of our Friends who we gone up with or You know even just people within our community And you know within our country altogether you know so It's definitely something that we should appreciate And we want to be able to acknowledge that as well. Yeah it's definitely not a norm in my family granted. I had a lot of great uncles. A great grandfather who was always there to kind of help out in. It's still kinda shocks me. How at some point in life even at this age that you know you still kinda think about you know wanting a father there you know things you would share with your father and growing up. My mom used to always be like. I'm the father to. And i know some women will pull stone father's day like happy father's day knee and you know a lot of women think they're filling the boy but you can never fulfill the row or the void of absentee father dislike. Father would never be able to fulfill that role if there was not a mother in the pitcher. And it actually kinda makes me sad when i think about it because i see a lot of young people out there and they're having children. I don't think they're necessarily thinking about the impacts of having a child with these young men who are not mature and ready and may be mature and ready right now. They're thinking well you know the guy doesn't show up then it's okay 'cause i got my child and you know i'll be there and that's fine. You know you do the best that you can with what you have but being someone who was in that position in going up without a father like i know the impact it has on a child to not have that other figure in their lives so I think we need to do better in think a little bit more about like the impacts that is gonna have to our children we make certain decisions and not only that you know a lot of times. People always say you know. Males need male role models in their life You know in which is very very true. I believe But it's equally important for the females as well have been that male figure because you look at Bets the first example of what they know as a man. And that's kind of what you would expect that they kind of look at in terms of qualities when they're looking to forder boyfriends or husbands and things of that nature who's going to be father their children you want them to be able to lease draw some type of qualities that they like or they see from their father's But when you don't have that didn't you don't really know what you're looking for in a person and i think that leads to a lot of the generational things that you know problems that we see is because you don't know any better you just don't you don't you only know what you know so If you don't have that visual you know. I want someone who knows going to be cared for me or someone who's going to provide for me as well you know. Even though we all know in today's society it's not a one way street as it used to be. The mail goes at work and You know the wife stays home and does cook and things of that nature. we know. it's more. Ah ballots Approach to parenting versus. You know in our our grandparents in my case generation were..
