Shame on Columnists Criticizing Jimmy Carter While in Hospice Care
"Some sad news and yet celebratory news out of planes, Georgia, Jimmy Carter and hers hospice. Boy, some of the stuff I got to just tell you that I feel so I feel nothing but pity for people who write columns and say things on air or publicly ripping into the life of Jimmy Carter. I'm a registered Republican. I'm a conservative. I'm a right of center American. I wouldn't consider Jimmy Carter's presidency a success, that would make me gloat about his death or say ugly things about his life. What's wrong with people? I'm embarrassed. For people who would rip into Jimmy Carter at this stage of his long life. He's entering hospice and some people on our side just can't help themselves. They bear their fangs when they should show a little bit of grace.

Kevin McCarthy Makes It Official: Schiff and Swalwell Are Out
"Idea that the likes of Adam Schiff remember the shift show, or Eric swalwell, remember fang fang, or Ilhan Omar, some bad things happened. I mean, the idea that any of these people have such incredibly important sensitive positions or hat, I should say in the past tense within our government is pretty alarming. Now, okay, I get it, they're elected officials. Nonetheless, even as elected officials one has to, and this is where the Speaker of the House comes in and why he or she, in some cases, Nancy Pelosi is so important. One has to exercise some judgment over who is given certain committee positions. You think about the house Intel committee and the kind of information that you are exposed to. Adam Schiff is such a political animal. Do not forget that. That he was right out there manipulating the public into thinking certain things were true. Russia Russia, Russia, that absolutely were not. And I think that's pretty unforgivable and speaks volumes about who he is as a person and as a politician. When you are on the house Intel committee, you need to kind of be above all that, right? Okay, we get it. You're out there in your district, pushing a certain narrative. But when it turns in such the way that the shift show did and become so overtly political, that's when it becomes, I'll use this word dangerous. And so Adam Schiff does not deserve a position on the intelligence committee because of that. The other person that doesn't deserve a position on the intelligence committee and this one should be pretty obvious. I mean, when our own intelligence is investigating a relationship, a lawmaker had with someone that was believed to be a Chinese spy, I'm talking fang fang, I mean that is, to me, total disqualifier. I mean, I'd get the guy right out of the house. And he ought to have been voted right out of his position, but it's pretty darn obvious that he can not be on the intelligence committee, because he doesn't have, shall we say enough intelligence himself to beware of the threats all around him, like

How Big Pharma Covertly Worked With Platforms to Censor Critics
"Lee fang has a thread on Twitter, but he also has a longer article which I have now in front of me from the intercept. And what is this describing? It's describing a concerted and somewhat covert effort by big pharma by companies like Pfizer, like Moderna, to censor content on social media platforms that hurts their profits. I mean, this is almost shocking to say, because they're not censoring misinformation as we'll learn in a minute, their censoring legitimate debate, their censoring information, and by the way, they are allowing misstatements and falsehoods by their own industry representatives to go unchecked unexamined on an uncensored those lies are in fact still up on social media right now. The story is a kind of a familiar one. So what we have here is you've got the pharmaceutical industry, and the pharmaceutical industry wants to work with these social media platforms, but they realize it might look kind of bad if they did this openly and blatantly. And so their lobbying group, they have a lobbying group and they operate through the lobbying group, the lobbying group is called bio bio. And what is bio do? Bio works with a kind of another operation that is a nonprofit called the public goods project. So look at how this is all camouflaged. The lobbying group is giving money in this case it turns out 1 million 275 $1000 to this nonprofit, and the nonprofit communicates then with meta Facebook with YouTube, it communicates with Twitter. So Twitter thinks oh we're dealing with this well, meaning nonprofits are trying to censor misinformation, they don't realize what we're getting here is what the industry wants.

America Just Had Its Worst Aviation Disruption Since 9/11
"We have a lot of news to get to, but let's dive right into it. I want to play cut 52, the FAA, the federal aviation administration, is having a tough day for millions of people that are trying to travel across the country. They have been grounded. Flights have been suspended. Now, there are some flights being resumed thankfully, but there are still over 10,000 flight delays across the country. Let's play cut 52. The FAA tweeting, it is quote experiencing an outage with its notice to air missions system which provides critical flight safety operation information. We are closely monitoring the situation, which impacts all airlines and working with the FAA, to minimize disruption to our operation and customers. We encourage customers to check AA dot com for the latest flight information. Now, the question that many people have is what is causing this? Is it some sort of a cyberattack? Is it a hack? It could be the government is saying it's not, but it could be the Chinese Communist Party retaliating against the House Republicans that have just set up a subcommittee that is expressly anti CCP. And by the way, I don't know if the House Republicans are going to be able to keep up this pace, but they are posting win after win after win. Could be that they're just getting all the conservative stuff out of the way first, or it could be that a new boss is in Washington, D.C. in the House of Representatives, because the amount of wins that we have seen in the last 24 hours makes anything that Paul Ryan and John Boehner did seem like almost nothing from committees to kicking people off committees. Elon the ingrate Eric swalwell, the fang fang lover and many others. We're going to get into that. But it could be the Chinese Communist Party is retaliating via a cyberattack against the FAA notams system because of that committee. That is probably unlikely though.

There Are Alternatives to Twitter
"So Twitter's back up and running, you can, I guess, feel free to say what you want now. And a lot of people I've seen a lot of friends who lost their accounts, they have been restored. That's all good, but will it matter? Again, there are other alternatives out there. I'm on true social as well, parlor, of course, has come about and had its own set of challenges. There's locals as well. I encourage you, by the way, you can follow me on locals at Trish Regan locals dot com, where they really are about promoting this freedom of speech within a decent way, right? I mean, we're not talking total craziness, but the ability at least to have an opinion. And in this environment, it's gotten hard. If I tell you to consecutive quarters of negative growth for our economy, means a recession, then somehow now I'm questioned by social media platforms for false information. I mean, hey, look, no recession is the same. But it used to be the definition of a recession. Now you can't say it anymore because Joe Biden doesn't want us to. I mean, that's scary stuff, folks, all right? And either side of the aisle. Remember that? Because it can just as easily be the Democrats that they're going after next. So even if Democrats are going after conservatives and all you can't say it's a recession that could so easily flip and that's the scary part about all of that. Isn't it? But lots of changes coming. I think January is going to prove to be a very interesting month. Don't you think? Don't you think I want to tell you about Kevin McCarthy? But before I do, did you see who's crawling around here? Right here on my lap. This is fluffy. If you haven't met fluffy, this is indeed him. He is the sweetest little thing and so important to me. I love this dog so much and it's the reason why I'm excited to tell you about a wonderful supplement that I found for him created by a former army veteran, an army veteran, a former army ranger named doctor Dennis black, and doctor black is naturopathic doctor, has created this supplement because he loves donks too and he's got a couple of them a little bit bigger than you fluffy, a little bit, but fluffy's just a little tiny Maltese. I encourage you if you're listening on Apple iTunes, go check out my YouTube channel or my rumble channel so you can see this guy in the flesh, but I love him. He goes a lot of places with me. And it's very important part of my life. And so I want to make sure that he is getting the proper nutrients. So this is why I have doctor Dennis black supplement for fluffy that I just add, I sprinkle onto his food every single day, because then I know he's getting the digestive enzymes. He's getting the minerals. He's getting the probiotics. All the things that he needs to have a long and healthy, happy life. Well, hopefully I will. A little bit responsible for some of that happiness, right, buddy. Anyway, I encourage you to check it out. Doctor Dennis black has a wonderful offer for free trial bag for Friends of mine, Friends of this show fans of this show. I'm going to include this link below in the show notes. But go to rough greens dot com today. Are you FF green's dot com today? Are you FF greens dot com today? Get your free trial back. It's really worth it. This is a wonderful supplement. Your dog will thank you. I promise. And your dog will love it. I mean, I'd be shocked. If it was any other way, because I know how much this guy I know how much he loves it, so I'm pretty sure your dog will as well. Anyway, back to what's happening there in Washington, D.C., as I keep him right here on my lap, I might as well, right? These little animals, they're pretty special. They're pretty special. Anyway, you've got chemical McCarthy planning some big changes. Now that he's going to be Speaker of the House. And it looks like Adam Schiff. And perhaps some of these others, like AOC, they're on the skids when it comes to the house Intel committee. As they should be, I mean, when you think about some of the things that have been done, who's the other one, the one that had the friendship with the lovely young woman. Fang fang, was it? From China, that's kind of something I wish I could forget. Anyway, we can't. I would argue rather compromise position there because she is alleged to have been a Chinese spy. Kind of strange to him to have him on the foreign affairs community here in the Intel committee. So I think that you're going to see a big revamp coming of some of these committees where there are sensitive positions and you have people that maybe don't like Israel or have had questionable relationships with people like fang thing. Are going to come into question and as they should. And that's going to result in some changes. Look, I think we need more responsibility in Washington. I really do. I think that people are shooting off their mouse in ways that are unbecoming, frankly, to themselves, and to the nation. And we've got to remember, in fact, who our allies are, one of which, of course, major ally, being Israel. So there's an important some important things that are going to be happening. And I'd say, in that sense, very good things that are going to be happening. But they're not going to go down without a fight. So gear up, be ready. In the meantime, let's all look forward to some Thanksgiving Thanksgiving which, by the way, we're going to talk about this tomorrow. Is suddenly super, super pricey. Have you seen the price said the turkey dinner this year? We'll talk about it. Great to have you here. Make sure you go to Trish Intel dot com. Florida Rep. Greg Steube Pulls out Weapons During House Discussion
"Greg steube was actually explaining to fellow Democrats what is going to happen if they pass this bill and he shows guns that the Democrat led bill would ban, including a very simple handgun, and just listen to how this unfolds. Let's just say the infamous representative Sheila Jackson Lee. She doesn't get as much coverage as she used to. Sheila Jackson Lee used to get a ton of coverage. And now you just got so many clowns over there. You got AOC, you got bush, you got Cory bush. You got ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib. She just kind of blends in now. She doesn't stand out as much as she used to. Play cut 74. This is a XL 6 hour P 360 five. Comes with a 15 round magazine. Here's a 7 round magazine, which would be less than what would be lawful under this bill if this bill we're going to come all. It doesn't fit. So this gun would be banned. It's not loaded. I'm at my house. I can do whatever I want with my guns. Democrats want to control your guns at all times. So he shows the gun to the he shows up the gun with good. Firearm control, by the way. And he has it right up to the camera. Good form, and proper form I should say. And representative Sheila Jackson Lee, they really are so concerned about gun control. She says, I hope that gun isn't loaded. And he's like, I put my house. I can do whatever I want with my guns. His proper response would be like, of course it's loaded. Are you kidding me? This is not just here to show you. They really do believe in gun control. Now the great response from rep stube came on Twitter. Where Democrats are losing their mind that representative stube would even motion that he's showing a gun. So Eric swalwell said with a screen grab of representative stew base said, this is who Republicans are. Kids are being buried and they're bragging about how many guns they own during our gun safety hearing. They are not serious. They are a danger to our kids. We're representative Greg steube, responded and said, if you hate the Second Amendment, move to China, I hear you know some people there. Of course, a slight towards Eric swalwell's lover, fang fang. The Chinese spy, where Eric swalwell was very close to fang fang, and never got held accountable to that.

"Cup, the four cities for the group stages in September have been announced as Glasgow, Bologna, Hamburg, and malaga, Canada have received a wild card and replace of Russia who've been banned from the competition, the defending champions, or the reigning champions, having lost four love in the qualifying, they have still got in Canada and that is raised some serious eyebrows, Marty fish, who's the U.S. captain, tweeted, wait, what? You lost four love in the qualifiers, what's going on here, Davis Cup, and Andy Roddick agrees and says, this is a really dumb rule that determined to make it a full on exhibition. I just can't be doing with wildcards in the Davis Cup. It's really as simple as that. And I think if they didn't have wildcards, they'd get themselves out of all sorts of trouble, really. But anyway, that's the situation we have. We have a mascot. Let's move on to that because that's a happier note to end this tennis podcast with. Who is it Matt? It is shadow waddow. I think I'm saying that correct. Shadow is an 11 year old Labrador retriever owned by Dan and Andrea and shadow is lovely. Thoughts Catherine. Very lovely. Extremely low. I mean, I'm a sucker for a Labrador slash any canine. But yeah, I really am a sucker for a Labrador Rosie's whole Labrador Bella. Previous dog was full Labrador and shadow is shadow is ticking, ticking all the boxes. Sorry, shadow waddell. I misspoke. Yeah, lots and lots of loveliness. And Dan Andrea and shadow guado from Pasadena in California, which is a place I've heard a lot about this week. I've been working with all sorts of people from all over the jungle that is the United States of America and one of them was from Pasadena, which apparently is a lovely place, so. I'm sure shadow wonder is leading a lovely life there. As is Darwin, despite the fact that we were crushed by Maria Sakura's final defeat, and Carlos saura is losing in the semis. Catherine has Carter as her mascot, Matt has Gerald the cat. Billie Jean has Billie Jean King and ilana klaas. We have Chris Albert Lee and car wein are executive producers and very much top blokes, and we also have the return of shout outs Matt. We do an exciting moment after Tupac Gus without them we have today Sally wells from Cape Town. Like Ellen wells, the 1980 Olympic champion. Yes, I think I might, I think I might have almost been called Sally. I think Sally might have been an alternative name that my parents were considering. At Lou Sally. We have what I am actually called Matt Thomas, who is from Sydney. Well, we like Sydney, and we like mats. And we like thomases. Thomas enquist, lovely chap. Indeed. Thanks very much for being a friend of the tennis podcast and getting yourself a shout out. Who's our third and final Matt? We have Daniel bergsten, who is from Stockholm, but now lives in France, and he describes himself as a devoted tennis dad and tennis taxi driver for his two sons. I'm sure that is very relatable for a lot of tennis parents out there. Thank you, Daniel. Daniel Evans is still what Dan Evans is called on the ATP website, isn't it? So there's your tennis Daniel. And also Taro Daniel. Very quick thinking Catherine, Daniel, thanks so much so much thanks to all of you for being our Friends, Friends of the tennis podcast, which if you're not already one of them, you can join the gang. And you can listen to all of our additional podcasts that we've got just for Friends. We've got another one recording in the next couple of weeks for Friends questions, which are coming him by the boatload at the moment. I mean, they're coming in on an email, but I'm saying there's lots of them. And yeah, you can chuck yours out as well if you become a friend of the show. You can get a shout out. You can get an intro. Catherine is off to board a plane to return to this green and wonderful land and it's actually sunny here at the merit Catherine. So, you know, we're doing our best to sort of break you back in gently. It is much appreciated. I hope I hope from now until forever more I can just bounce from one summer to the next. Okay. We'll work on this play. All right..

"Won this match because he can do things now that he didn't used to be able to do in terms of volleying. His neck coverage was unbelievable with his reflexes, tight on the net, coming up with volleys that, frankly, he thought he'd missed that he would hit for winners. His backhand is better than it ever used to be. And it just kind of showed, I thought, you know, alcaraz is already amazing. He's already great. I'm so sure he's going to have a good career, you know, touch were injury doesn't affect him. But the dog just sort of reminded him down the other end. You know, if you want a legendary career, you've got to keep evolving and keep improving because you've got to get to the kind of tennis that I'm playing and I just thought that contrast between the sort of youthful promising alcaraz and the guy who's already done it for 15, 20 years was kind of fascinating to watch play out. And I get the sense that alcaraz is going to relish that development in his own game. Because he just he's already trying to add serve volley into it and stuff like that, which is an amazing thing to see a young lad with a baseline game like that prepared to do already. But I agree with you. I mean, it was Nadal just delving into everything. He's ever done. In order to find the answers and it was just intoxicating as a contrast and also the moment that the wind dropped and then it was like the civil right there. Let's go for it land. We can stop hitting it down the center. Let's tee off for half an hour. He's got it. Yes, it was like, it was like that moment in an F one race where they get rid of the safety car and they were just unleashed suddenly. It was like it was like a sprint to the finish. God, it was amazing. And look, Nadal, look, I know he lost the final. But he has enriched and lit up this first few months of the Tennessee. I'm really incomplete awe at what he's done, his best ever start to a season at his age, having just come back from a really career threatening injury and yeah, I've enjoyed watching him so, so much, and I'm kind of fascinated by what he does about the clay now, you know, given he has had an injury here. The foot has also been a problem. I don't know whether he's going to play his usual full scattered on the clay. I would think he would try, but it's going to be interesting to see what he does about the clay over the next few months. That's going to be another kind of fascinating element to Nadal's season, I think. Because he's not going to play Miami he's due to play Monte Carlo, then Barcelona, then Madrid then Rome, the usual. So yes, we will watch with interest and bring you all of the movements as they take place. Right. The doubles tournaments Jack sark and John Isner won their second Indian Wells title together. They also went in 2018, heck of a run to the title, they beat Nikola mektic in mato Paris in round one, Nick curios and tenacity Kaka nakas in round two, so that's the Australian open champions and the multiple Grand Slam champions in the previous round. Stefano sits a basin to Feliciano Lopez in the quarterfinals. Zverev and galli bev in the semis and then Gonzales and roger vasili in the final. Jack sock in the words of John Isner, Catherine, best doubles player in the world, hands down. That's a burn, isn't it for the special case? Who were taking a momentary break from changing the sport? Now, you're going to have to help me with the names of the women's doubles champions Catherine. I've got them written down in front of me, but I'm really not confident. You've been saying them all week. Who won the title? Ju and Yang, the first all Chinese pairing to win a title at 1000 level. And they were joy to watch actually jus in particular, she was she was a magician out there in terms of what she could do with her racket. It was, yeah, it was a really classic doubles watch. And they beat Asia Muhammad and he was Asia Muhammad's partner. Yes. But Asia Muhammad is the one I'm thinking of because she's just been on a ridiculous tear recently. She was unbeaten in singles and doubles across 20 ish matches. Most of the ITF level it has to be said, but you know, Windsor wins and reached the final 1000 level within a shibahara and they were scratch pairing. For that tournament, so yeah, and they took a break early on. And it looked like, you know, the role would continue incredibly impressive to turn it around. And that's quite a big deal. You know, first all Chinese pairing to win at this level, so wants to watch. Very much so. So Miami is starting tomorrow, the WTA event, the ATP event starts on Wednesday, a couple of draw highlights here Amanda Ennis over against Shelby Rogers in round one, Naomi Osaka could face Angelique Kerber in round two. It's like this all the time, isn't it? Just Grand Slam champions facing off. Talking of which emirati against the amount of halo is a possible round three. In the ATP events, Novak Djokovic is, by the way, he's back to number one in the world. Of course, he's not playing Miami, but he's got himself back to the top ranking Dan and Medvedev needs to get to the Miami semis to get it back. Could face Andy Murray in the second round could Daniel Medvedev Murray faces federica del bonis in the first round and a quarter that has stephanus sits a pass carlot alcaraz Felix Jose auger and Taylor Fritz unless he withdraws. They're all in the same quarter, which is a really packed little section of the draw..

"That's really big for him in terms of belief. I think Nadal had changed this is mutton and a battle over his observation, but he had changed his technique a little bit. He was hitting the forehand later in order to change the sort of torsion in his upper body, which ones pointed out by one of the greatest players of all time. Was very obvious to me, but obviously in a million years I'd never have spotted it. Without it being without it being pointed out by her, it is all going to make one heck of an episode of serve to survive or whatever it'll be called on Netflix. I was sat below. I just came up with that actually. I was sat below the tailor for its player box for that match. And at the risk of sounding like stefanos, it's a pass. I think I'm going to be on Netflix. Because Netflix camera trained on them the whole time. And you can just imagine how that storytelling is going to go, isn't it? I mean, Taylor Fritz injured his ankle in his semifinal against Rublev and then that was on Saturday. So only 24 hours rest, he comes out Sunday morning for a hit. And he screams out in agony, said it was the worst pain he's ever felt. Curtails that practice after 5 minutes, gets it all taped up, comes out and practices again at two 15, everyone's speculating at about what time exactly Taylor Fritz is going to pull out of the biggest match of his life. I had speculation that Ben Stiller might be called upon to play an exhibition in order to please the crowd, which was not a prospect I was looking forward to. And then out they come and as you comment, I'm not throwing you under the bus here, David, because I thought exactly the same, but you said Taylor Fritz looks sad. He did. I did so sorry for him. He looked. When he went three love up a few minutes later, I thought I remember thinking. It was bizarre. No, I really believe it was sadness. Yeah, I mean, he did not expect to be competitive out there today. He said, I don't know what happened, but my ankle felt okay. He said I've got an MRI booked for tomorrow. There's a big chance I'll be paying for it. I don't know about Miami all I can tell you is my ankle was okay for the two hours of that much today and I can't explain why. But honestly, if you were trying to script an episode of the Netflix show, you couldn't, you couldn't do much better. I wonder what they'll I wonder what they'll call it. I just watched an episode of drive to survive, which had the name dances with wolf. In reference to Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team principal, so I hope, I don't know. Answers on a postcard if you can come up with the name of this Netflix episode because it's definitely getting an episode. And like Stefano sits a pass, I think I'll be in it. This is Fritz's thing. Is it his trademark sort of miraculous comeback? Because he's the guy who had meniscus surgery and three weeks later was winning matches at Wimbledon. And now he's experiencing worst pain of his life, hours later, he's beating the doll in a final. Yeah, and he's got this extraordinary deciding set tiebreak record. Obviously he didn't need that in the final, but you unearthed this that meant that it all levels, he's won 19 out of 22 deciding set tiebreaks. And when I when I dropped that stat bomb on Martina on air, thanks very much, Matt. The face she made, I've never felt so good about myself. She was she was a impressed by the statin B impressed by Taylor Fritz. She said, wow, that tells me something about him that I didn't know. That does not happen by accident. That tells you something about Taylor Fritz. And I wonder whether at 4.5 mini breakdown in that tiebreak, that's where it comes into play. This inner belief is in a steel that he doesn't jerk when he's facing down a challenge like that. And I mean, just to talk very briefly about his game as well. I mean, got to see a lot of it this week because he went all the way and he was on the big matches, got to see how explosive he's made that forehand. I mean, he's looking to take people out. There was I think the first pretty much the first game he played against Andre Rublev. Hits the ball. He hit one forehand that smashed into the tape. That had the crowd laughing at it because it was just so dismissive of Rublev's power. It was kind of, I don't care where this goes, I'm gonna hit it as hard as I can, and he's got a thunder crack of a shot on that forehand. And when you had him after that match, chatting away Catherine with you guys, he was very defensive and protective about his own backhand because there was some reference about how good his forearm was, and he was like, well, I like, I like my backhand, actually. And when you watch that back and up against the Dow, cross court forehand, and the damage that shot does to everybody else or so many other people. And that backhand was standing up to it, comfortably. He was taking them on the rise. He was just swishing them cross court back, or he could turn it down the line. It's such a clean hit. And yeah, I really, really enjoyed watching the guy. It's fantastic. And I noticed as well, he said about when he turned, he was feeling the ankle in that patty. He said, I was trying to act tough so that people and he said, people were thinking that I'm maybe exaggerating this because of how much I screamed out. But I was actually trying to act tough. And not scream out. So goodness knows, I didn't read the press current transcript, but I was thinking, you know, I wonder whether he's had a major cortisone shot or something like that, that, as he says when it wears off, forget Miami. No chance, but I can get through two hours. And thanks to a very strange glitch in the ATP rankings, he briefly made his top ten debut this morning, because the ATP accidentally counted all the Indian Wells points twice. So he went up all the way to number 8 in the rankings this morning, but actually he is number 13 and he still has to wait to make his top ten debut, but I thought that was quite amusing. Very music. What about Nadal? I mean, the story of his run to the final from when we last spoke Marty played curios and he didn't lose to curios, as I said he would. So lots of people have been reminding me of this. But it was the usual, wasn't it, really, a very up and down emotional match. Curios was absolutely brilliant for an hour. And then he lost his mind a few times and behaved pretty badly at times and then he behaved absolutely abominably after match point because he smashed his racket into the ground. It was unintentional that it flew off and nearly hit a ball kid in the face, the kid actually had to move a step in order for it to avoid hitting him a real rate. And when that eventually surfaced on social media, curios addressed it, set up some sort of meeting with the kit, videotaped it, and put it out on social media to show himself giving the kids a racket. Which was his attempt in an apology. But Nadal's performance, it's not like he was managing all of these situations. And then he ends up playing against.

"Hi, this is Billie Jean King. This is Marion Bartoli. I'm Matt vilander. This is Mary carillo. This is Pam shriver. This is Yannick Noah. Hi, this is Valerie andress and you're listening to the tennis podcast. Well, thanks very much to Valerie for introducing this edition of the tennis podcast. You can introduce a show yourself, if you like, become a friend and we have the option to introduce a show or to get a shout out, shout out to back today, folks. And the reason shout out to back is because Catherine rittich is back. Hello, Catherine. Hello, and that was me thinking I was never really away, but yes, in my most official capacity, I am indeed back. Have bounced and bounced our bouncing. Back. Indeed. I'm delighted to say Matt's here as well. And we're getting sight of Catherine today in her hotel room for the final few minutes of her stay in Indian Wells. What have you been doing this morning, Catherine? Breakfast with Billie Jean King this morning. Of course you did. In normal news, yeah. We had omelets. Somehow, Catherine's only got sort of one more meal that she can have with Belize and king. She's had dinner, she had breakfast, ticked off. It's only lunch remaining. I'm available for lunch with Billie Jean King any time. Yes, we both had omelet, hers was healthier than mine. Marvelous. Okay. Well, it's just the best news to hear that Billie Jean is still in our lives, not only in our podcast, but she's actually meeting us ticking us off one by one. Matt's done an interview with her in the Billie Jean King cup, Catherine's having breakfast with her. There's only me stuck here in Solihull. She doesn't show up here very often, so I think I'm out of luck. Anyway, we got loads of tennis to talk about since our last edition on Thursday. And it's all been a bit dramatic. With both the men's and the women's tournaments finishing with Taylor Fritz surprisingly winning.

"Yeah but the well written and because of it's a really tight script and because of the atmosphere you do You you you care about the characters Either by liking them or disliking them in the case of of them And but you care what happened to them and it was. It is not because relatable people yes. And i had not thought about it but it is one of the rare episodes where only the doctrine that companion. Get out alive right. Like just like wow. That's kinda dark even for doctor who standards which are normally pretty high when it comes to killing off supporting characters. This one is exceptionally high percentage. Wise maybe not maybe not in volume. Because i remember seeing unit soldiers getting wasted here and there but but percentage wise. I think this is. This is one of the highest. I think i agree. Absolutely so Ruben were just. You know i. I thought it was interesting. I thought that i liked rubin. You know he's because because it teases things like he's talking about because he superstitious he mentioned this mythical beast of fang rock that supposedly once terrorized the lighthouse so so immediately your brain goes well. Is it really like was there a beast originally or is this just something creature. That's been around for a while. That's just now returning or is it something else that fits this legend and rubens also. He's he's old fashioned so so he's making fun of electricity. He has no patients for you know like it. The beacon starts malfunctioning. The light goes out and whatnot. And he's you know bruins right. They're going see 'we-told-you-so can't so beside tangent i had When i worked for a company called rio page yeah ago We had a windows based product and every time there was a problem. One of the guys who had built and supported eight dos based product would go see. That's why windows doesn't work like okay..

"They always said the beast of iraq would be back. So this o wanna talk about our our lighthouse. Crew in the form of vince. Hawkins and ruben and also want to talk about the rutin because hey the routing takes over reuben's body in then proceeds to kill the characters. We just talked about so Any thoughts on on it. I a foremost vinson ruben. Without were interesting lighthouse characters. I think they were very interesting characters and you know one of them very young i should say one of them vary experience trying to you. Know we're we're here. This is a long ee. You do this for long. Periods of time One of the most interesting scenes that i really enjoy. Is the doctor calmly talking to the region right in you know not alien to him is just another alien to him and you know just another manic monday right. It's just like oh okay. So really reference has no he has no fear he has the worry a just like so. Tell me more what's going on. What's your plan. what are you doing well. I think this happened. No no It was just a really nice little seen That it it felt very like the fourth doctor. The fourth doctor. You know There i know you are. You've been picking at me. But in the first season of ted lasso. There is an episode. Where the the jason seductive is less character says be curious not judgmental right and. That's the doctor being. He's curious he's asking this not dental. Like oh you're this shape. Chilly shape shifting killing monster. But also i'm curious talk about that. I just really loved that a lot charles. I never get the chance to talk to my bad guy. My enemy exactly so. Tell me the whole plan to use a matt smith. Line one day. that'll work. Tell me the whole plan. If you remember that from empires venice i just. I really liked vince and reuben. I thought their dynamic was interesting for being characters. That essentially would be normally throw a characters. Rubin who is the salty sea dog that seen it all done at all whatever and and obviously. Vince is young. he's not as experienced. So you've got the old any no like rubens. All old and superstitious and vince is yang and eager. So that was an interesting dynamic. You know. Vince you talks. To ruben about there's this light felt that fell from the sky and they ruben initially thinks well it must be a shooting star. Well there's luck for you. You know so. Like i said. He's very superstitious so he thinks that was a good omen for events starts telling him i know what a shooting star looks like and i you know i know it wasn't immediate earn. I know something was going on I think the other point that's really well said is that.

"Better. Essentially expendable in story. They're interesting characters you know. There was that dynamic. So there's a little subplot. You see palmdale trying to go up and convinced vince to get a message out on the telegraph and so that he knows he can still make his windfall. I guess and even bribes him right. He invents to his credit realizes. Well you know you know this comes out you know that. He bribed me. I could be big trouble. So i'm gonna just burn this money. Yeah which he does in case. You're wondering why he was burning that money that's why and And then you have the colonel finding out about this because he overheard and so the kernel goes and smashes the telegraph which creates the added complication of that. They can't reach the mainland for health. Right somebody smashed the radio so we can't that yes. Yeah there's always that guy right smashed and unfortunately this time. It's kurt colonel. Who who didn't want Palmdale getting word out so not realizing of course that That now what. I thought was interesting. One of the you know they get killed off one by one right throughout. This episode palmdale gets killed by the rootin- i guess well he's. He's waiting for the doctor. And then all sudden there's this light below i'm he gets taken out. An an harker gets taken out when after the bruton has possessed ruben down the boiler room takes him out and adelaide. I guess gets taken out Right in front of leela in colonel skin sale and then skin sale get's killed these last of the four to die When the scout gets killed killed him right before leila shoots it with water so So he could take one by but I think of all the four. I think i was probably because if you really know harker i think it was probably rooting for the colonel to live. I was too out of all right. I'm sure turns out. Probably harker was the.

"But i thought it was shot really well patty russell because it could have got really. Gandhi is very easily and but but the but the camera work was very creative. I thought to to make everything feel fresh and not really played out and Louise jameson just just really. Just click on all cylinders with every in every scene. She's and she's either when she's not helping the doctor. She's showing her frustrations. And this is one of my favorite moments when when adelaide. Who has this very old timey yo depiction of women so yes as the helpless females that that fainted at the slightest distress right and which i've to see compared to leila you know she's very you for the time period very modern in her personality. You know she's she's very brave. She doesn't fate at slightest upset. You know she's and she's in there right there with her knife like you're talking about her blade and ready to fight and ready to take down the alien right there beside the doctor and so so it was a great contrast between the two and just it just love seeing her frustration with adelaide. Because here's adelaide just wailing and moaning about everything and then finally leila just you know she keeps telling her shut up and then finally. She just likes slaps her across the face. Like we're talking about and it was very interesting to kind of Just to see that contrast between these two women in this particular time period of doctor who well and it's interesting right because ace later show run has a similar vibe. Yeah but he doesn't suffer fools either. She's right there mixing up to but I think it was really smart of the of the show runners at that time right to give him that kind of companion someone who 'cause i always think i always want a companion to bring something to the table right if they don't have something it it's like well..

"Takes place so the time they arrive on fang rock instead off the south coast of england at the you know and they noticed that the lighthouse isn't functioning properly so of course the doctor decides to investigate and ask for directions. So jesse thoughts on the doctor and leela in the story as they go to check out what's going on lighthouse and find that there's an alien menace of course that they have to deal with so i'll make a very bad joke to begin with you. Tell the doctor is an alien because he asked for directions and males won't soaping sexes. Every go. I told you it was a bad joke. I just this is i. Think the second or third episode or you know series where i've got to see leila and i just the more i watch her the more. I just adore her She is She there are so many great moments and the doctor seems to really enjoy her there. I did not write the quote down. That might be one of yours but she threatens like if you don't shut up i'm gonna carve your heart out in the doctor smiles. I don't have that. I don't have that close. Yeah she's just really really She is smart even though she's predators and she is very smart and very clever and You know too because the she's a savage like the doctor likes to say she's not stupid. Yes exactly So they have some really nice. Chemistry together It was it was really interesting to see them. Interacting back and forth and because the atmosphere looked so cold right like Sometimes i'm distracted when i watched the fourth doctor. I keep that hot. He's got that jacket. And i also now then. Every time we watched the fifth doctor. I think the same thing like as you mentioned it. And i wonder why they didn't want her to have blue eyes to begin with right. 'cause he's gotten pretty is is you know they're very striking. Of course i am a little biased. Because i'm a blue eyed guy. I am to yeah Jameson made that removal condition for her agreeing to play leela for another season. Okay good yeah exactly in the scene. Where leila slaps adelaide to stop her screaming. And i think we're all glad about that. Louise jameson did indeed slap net. It will it quite hard. Jamison stated in dvd. Commentary that the willett that will. It insisted that she not hold anything back when doing the slap okay. So she must be a method actor or something. I'm guessing so yes so popular one. I guess right across the chops. Oh ouch yeah right. A scene in part three of the story was crucial to the behind. The scenes relationship between louise jameson and tom. Baker in one scene baker came in consistently came in ahead of his cue of staging jamison and the process on the grounds that this move was quote. Not what the rehearsed unquote. She insisted that three successive retakes Take place until he came in at the rehearsed time. Okay this eventually. One bakers respect and from that point forward. She claims they're working relationship. Was that much smoother. Oh interesting so because by all accounts tom baker was pretty much dick during this production that the stardom had really gone to his head. We've heard that from a couple of other people right could be times. Yeah okay yeah. I think this'll be something that john would have brought up. Had he been here with us so doing this in his stead and honor guests. And lastly i thought. I mentioned that. Tom baker began an on off relationship with gerard. Who was working as an editor on this serial. He broke it off to mary. lau award. who played the second ramana and then after divorcing award rekindled his relationship with sue and married her instead and they've been married ever since. Okay well nice. So i guess it worked out. Yeah all right. That's all the trivia. I have unless you had anything else. You wanted to share. Jesse i do not right. So where did you three topics today. Okay so we should breeze through this pretty quickly topping number one. I feel something wrong here and yeah exactly a disturbance in the companion force. So let's talk about the fourth doctor and leela in the segments so we have to set this up. We have the fourth doctor intending to take leela to.

"Right guest cast. We have john abbott as vince. Hawkins colin douglas. As ruben and the rutan voice he's notable because he played a character. Donald bruce in the enemy of the world. Ralph watson plays ben travers. And he's been several doctor who projects if played an overseer in the underwater menace from the patrick trout era captain ben night a unit officer in the web of fear from the patrick trout era and also play the same character in a big finish diary of river song story. The web of time. You've played the character. Edis in the monster of pelivan from the jon pertwee era. We also had sean cavalry as lord henry. Lord henry palmdale. He's notable 'cause. I guess he was in the movie. The curse of the pink panther. Okay the one that was. I think it was After peter sellars death okay. So that one allen rope plays colonel james skin sale. He played Dr evans in the moon base from the patrick drought era edward a wessex in the time warrior. Which was the story. That introduced sarah jane smith anderson tar sands and he also played gareth in full circle. Which was the introduced. Patrick from the topic very nice. And lastly we also had an will it as adelaide the saggio and rio fanning as harker. And of course most of these characters if not all of them die in this story because this is one of the few stories where the entire supporting cast dies in the story this is. It does have a lot of feeling of agatha christie and then there were none you know a couple other her it does have that feel of. Everyone's getting slowly picked off ten little indians. I always prefer the kind of knockoff parody of that called murder by death. Yes ever seen that movie. I love that movie. I need to see it again. Because i've seen it a couple of times. Because i didn't know that. I was struggling with boundary issues. I thought it was some other issue in really. It was an issue of fang now and sticking to it issues around Allowing people to have a reaction to your boundaries without trying to change your opinion or forcing them to understand you. I didn't necessarily have a challenge with setting the boundary. My issue was dealing with the reception after as set the boundaries. Okay so you're able to you know confronts probably the wrong word but express yourself with the person that you needed to you know instill boundary but then was it more just when they would push back. You weren't able to hold strong adsell absolutely terrible terrible and then i'll be like okay. Maybe i don't need his battery anymore. Maybe it's just me guys. Venus who are roaming deep-space on a quest for the hunky aliens in the galaxy and skip from planet to planet collecting reptile cyclops. Hunks kissy face. Brain newton hunks fang head skeleton hunks until they finally meet the honky. Tonk of all a rascal writer of the chihuahua. Planes played by the incomparable lalo gonzalez aka porto more on him later. This movie is so much fun. Yeah this is a real pleasant surprise. When when you brought this this title to to our attention. I did like some preliminary research. I looked it up in the The cyclotron video guide like all right. It's listed there. Sounds like like like it. Might be good so i went into it expecting there to be something awesome about it. You know i'd find a monster. I liked her performance. I liked. Afterpay & Square Say Buy-Now-Pay-Later for EVERYTHING
"This week's episode. We'll talk about the buy now. Pay later craze especially the square after pay deal will revisit. Some surprising advertising spend numbers released from fang talk a bit about canadian startup. Who has an interesting take on consumer health tech unless they try to get more context on how. Amd fits into the narrative of vehicle chip shortages here in canada. So regarding this. On the morning of tuesday august third joel. What have you been paying attention to markets last week while bad news at a china continues to kinda hit markets. They called the video game. Is i can't remember what the exact quote is but effectively. It's cancer for your brain. So they decided that they're going to regulate video game makers for those under the age of eighteen which obviously hertz one of my favorite positions ten cent they are. I mean they are the synonymous with metaverse in video games themselves. They have experts of epic which fortnight they own a ton of the video game ecosystem in the in southeast asia and the stock got smashed little seven percent or eight percent today back down to its low from last week. I do think long term that when you allow for a massive conglomerate like ten cents to have better clarity around regulation and then you create rules and then allow them to continue to operate within those rules that is insanely bullish for the incumbent because it now makes it that much harder for businesses to enter the space and participate because when you massive regulatory hurdles to get into the business will the economics are now more expensive so now in order to compete with the big boys it's that much harder and it just cements them even further

"Researchers have been thinking about how to reduce noise for a while. in the past the way to soundproof. something was create thick acoustic barriers. Made of heavy sound trapping materials but those are impractical for addressing some of our modern day noise emitters transportation machines. Hvac systems that kind of heavy barrier is not going to work for these things barriers. That block sound often also prevent air from getting through the world needed to find a way to create sound barriers that were light as air instead of thick and heavy so researchers began playing around with alternative materials in their quest to make sound disappear. This is nick. Fang calling from mit currently professor of mechanical engineering and we have been working on capturing light and sound waves yielding nanna skill materials and structures. Nick fang now at mit is one of the researchers who's been defining the cutting edge if acoustic engineering back in the early two. Yeah very harry potter. We were collaborating on the concept of invisible cloak and more fundamentally materials than leased who transparency are the exotic effect refraction of light. This might sound crazy. But you've actually seen it happen in real life. nature has its own way of making an invisibility cloak.
