It's like the mega news. The end of the year. All of a sudden dislike boom. So much going on. And that interview with Grayson was pretty good. I listen to it just not not too long ago. And it was interesting just to hear his perspectives on the on the contest kind of behind the scene stuff to an AO Wicky podcast. You beat us to it. 'cause we we usually try to give while usually there's been one other winner. But really try to get him on the show, but they beat us to it. Yeah. All right. Let's jump into this review. This is called hurry. Hurry. It's almost Christmas from voices in the wind audio theater and the first Noel productions released in November of twenty sixteen. It is a little over two hours in length and Andrew got a summary for us. As Christmas approaches. John a modern day working father seems a little more stressed out than usual with his lovely wife. Even adoring teenage children, Chris brook and little Anna Magdalena at his side. What could possibly go wrong? Well, just about everything including an unexpected visit from his inlaws the never ending seasonal to do list. The annoying neighborhood kids in the man eating Christmas tree and through it all his smiling co worker Dennis sets him up for the ultimate disaster at work. Join John and his family as they take you on a madcap dash through the festive season filled with laughter, tears, reconciliation friendship and joy that is a long summary. But I think it recaps it pretty well. And since there are four separate stories, although they all follow the same thread. I guess it makes sense to have a more lengthy. Yes. So this is interesting. It's kind of broken up into what they call chapters. It's sort of like a little mini series. I guess. Yeah. But they're not like the same length. There you know, give or take a few minutes about thirty minutes each. But and it's a musical. Yes. Songs in every chapter, and it was written and directed by George czar produced by Noel to pre recording engineer, David Farquhar, and then we have music. Composed and song lyrics written by George r and sound post production by George Dr Who busy, man. Yeah. That's a lot to work. So here is a little snippet of this program and voices in the wind audio theater before play that wanted to mention that we haven't focused on on much of their stuff before just until recently, we found out about what they are doing their production company up in Ontario, Canada, and they've done quite a few different audio dramas. We were kind of going through their catalogue of stories, and and presenting the ones that we we want to focus on. And as you heard in Roy's newscast Cinderella is their latest. Release and it's quite good. Excellent. And Noel do que- who plays Cinderella's mother. Not the fairy godmother, but the mother instant in Cinderella plays eve in this auditor. So all right. Let's let's play this little clip. Celebrate the birth of Jesus in you. Well, he kinda got hung up on the preparation part. All those things on the list took on a life of their own. Too busy anxious to notice the holiday itself or your family or yourself or anything I feel guilty. I should've said something much sooner. Why didn't you as a little angry at you? Are you still angry at me? How can I be aimed -gree? When I have the only husband town sits on the top giant, candy canes. Are you angry at me, John for telling all those things I'll show you how angry I am eve.

But we've got a lot of stuff in this one. We've got a review of Saint Bartholomew eve from heirloom audio we've got some feedback from John Victor Jackson, and will and we have a pretty packed newscast. Lots of stuff going on again, much news the audio drama world. So let's let's jump right into that. As we reported previously. A our theater is producing the legend of robinhood as their next production. We've learned that it will be twelve episodes, and we'll start Willem willingly as Robin Hood and is expected to be released in the first half of two thousand and nineteen Darby Kerns upcoming production. That's it for the news. Time. I'm ROY reporting for audio theatre central. I have to say that. I am super excited about the Jake Miller adventures. I don't know if this was intended for the public, but I came across a little sample of the script for the first episode. It's like three pages. I shared it with you guys. Sorry. I don't have any of that. I don't know. He's talking about. Sorry darby. We're not supposed to have that. It was out on the internet leagues around the internet. They live there forever. I just happened to come across JD's Bank account. It was on the internet. I'm not saying anything. And of course, I read it. The first three pages. If it's look like it's really going to be good. I don't know if I've been as excited about a series as an about this one. I don't know why it just like, well, actually, I do know why we talked in the last episode about modern Audra or original dramas versus classic at obtains or adaptations of modern works and for a long time. I thought I want more stuff set in our modern day, you know, and also I would love to hear more just slice of life kind of Audie long-form. Exactly because odyssey sees great. It's at the top. You know, we love odyssey, but I would love to hear some more long form modern day audio drama just people live in life. Like, I think I think that find that interesting. Yeah. Just how I don't know like. Sort of emit furred sort of story but set right now, you know, what I mean since I think, it would be awesome. And although this is not going to be a quaint little small town kind of story. This is going to be acted in adventure. But I don't know there's something about the whole premise of it. I'm just really excited about it. So I can't wait to hear what they do with that series. But we're not here to review that because it's not out yet. So I think we should move onto the review. What do they? Yeah. Definitely. Saint Bartholomew eve another release from heirloom audio in their extraordinary adventures of g a Hindi series released summer of twenty eighteen and it's just over two hours in length and as always our wonderful reader, Andrew summariser. Yeah. Very oh. The summariser she. The Stellato or the grinder. Summariser sounds very ominous. Huddled

"Already out there in what had already been done? Exactly. So. Yeah. So there's ways to redo things that aren't exactly like it's been in the past which is. Yeah. Which is good. And a lot of things were done in the old time radio ehre like I would love to see a modern audio drama Lord of the rings. Yeah. That would be incredibly with all the actors that we know in love get on that focus on the family. I don't know who could do it. But it would be amazing somebody. I don't care who it is. But it would be incredible to hear that redone. Even if you literally just took the same script that they did with the BBC in the seventies. Or whatever I think it was the seventies. And just redid it with modern sound effects music. You could almost just leave the actors the same even if you wanted to some of them are the people we know in love, actually. Yeah. Senior Luke from the Luke reports is in production. So you could just take it at music and sound effects that are appropriate for today's generation. It would be incredible. Yeah. Foley, somebody could get I hadn't thought about that before. But I think you're absolutely right. That would you have to change the acting acting scrape. Yeah. Just redo the whole soundscape for it, man. That's interesting idea that would hours long back to the length issue. But then there's also that whole world of all original audio drama too. And exactly as we know all of the lamp planter dramas are taken from books to right. So these are not originals, right? And g hint is the same way. It's just a lesser known classic author. But it's the same thing. You know, it's it's a it's a story already that they're adapting to audio drama. So there aren't very many originals. I mean folks on the family radio theater. How many of the done that our original just? Father Gilbert's father Gilbert. The traveling. What is it? Christmas. And that's about as far as I can think of. Anyway, I'm sure I'm forgetting something short Christmas ones were were at a patient of Owen recently. He's exactly so. Yeah. Not very many. Most of them are classic works. Of course, at home in mitford was well, there's an example of a modern. We just talked about that a second ago, we forgot it. That's awesome. So that was really good. Yeah. So yeah. So to answer his question, which is better. I don't think there is one. That's better. I don't know. I don't think so either it's just important to pick a good story or write a good story. That's the only thing that really matters. I mean, whether it's a classic story or a modern novel or a modern written for audio drama audio drama. It's still as long as it's a good story. It's going to be in well-done. Of course. Bottom line is all three of those original audio dramas dramatization of of classics organizations of a current work. They are all equally as good as long as those different elements that make up a good drama are also good exactly interesting question. Thank you very much Carlton. Well, we have mentioned briefly this series. We've just recently discovered called Nick guy private eye, and it is created by Frank Uley who is the writer and voice, actor and producer director. I think he he wears a lot of hats over there on these productions and Austin peachy road, a really great blog post about this series. When we raise our when we first discovered it he brought to a might Incheon. There's a link in the show if you wanna check out that review that he did have one of their recent productions, and he recently sat down with an chatted with Frankie Lee about the series and its companion series called the human Il. Which is kind of a superhero audio drama. So we wanted to share this great conversation that Austin had with Frank about this whole series can how it got started. And a lot of really great information about Nick guy private eye. Welcome to the show. Frank yuli. Thank you led to be here. Well, you've done a lot of different radio productions in the past. So my first question for you today is how did you start creding productions for children? Well, sure. Yeah. Actually, it was my own children. They gave me the idea. I am a songwriter and built a home studio a number of years ago, actually, when I was in a band another guy bought some recording equipment. So I've always had recording equipment and my children when they would go to bed at night with lights to listen to adventures in odyssey and jungle jam and some of those and some of the old radio programs. They they would enjoy listening to as well. And I just got the idea that I would like to produce some stuff for them that would kinda help undergird the Christian faith, and obviously not that adventures in odyssey in those didn't. But. You know, a little more specific to them. And as I started working on these little short about five minute programs. I got the idea that this might be something that other children might benefit from and began to work on it as actually a radio program and contacted some people I knew in the business, and then some people I didn't know who had been involved in children's radio ministry, focus on the family. I contacted them the Donut man, I don't know how many people remember him, and some of these others the people from veggietales, I talked with Fisher and just got sent them some of what I had done and get some feedback from them some criticisms and just began working on it that way. So it was basically my kids that got me started into it. And I've kept doing it even though they're fully grown now. So all right. That's that's quite a start there. Yeah. So the main show that you produce is Nick guy

"And now audio theatre central. Hi there. I'm John Whitaker. Most folks around here. Call me with. Navient, Finian Jones and new. Hello. I'm Dave Arnold. Your host for focus on the family radio theater. Hello. Welcome to audio theatre central. This is the show. That's all about family friendly audio drama. I'm Jay Dee in ROY. And I'm Andrew welcome to episode one eleven one one one. This is a bonus episode in honor or in recognition of world audio drama day who yeah. Yeah. You do you little trumpet? Oh, I haven't heard that in years. We retired the trumpets. Trump is not not even honor of world audio drama day. No trumpets. Nope. Oh, well, if you'd like to check out more information about world audio drama day head over to audio drama day dot com. It's an annual celebration of the medium of drama on October thirtieth and that date was chosen because that is the anniversary of Orson Welles classic broadcast of the war of the worlds. Well, it wasn't a classic at the time. But it is now. Yes, absolutely. Well, we've got a few audio drama discussions here that have been suggested by listeners that we wanted to chat for a few minutes. And then we have an interview with Frank Yuli who is the creator and writer for Nick guy private eye. And this interview is conducted by ATC contributor, Austin Picchi. So we'll have that coming up a little later on. Well, the first thing I wanted to mention is there is a new book that's out which interviews a lot of different voice actors primarily focusing on their animated work. But there is a lot of different references to audio drama and adventures in odyssey in particular. And how do you theater central makes an appearance in this book? It's called the animated voice volume. One interviews with voice actors, and it's written by WR Miller. And it's a really really interesting read there's photos in there. And there are some aims in here that you will be familiar with. There is interviews with Phil Lawlor with will Ryan. And with Katie Lea so it's a great book. I have not finished reading the whole thing. But I've definitely been skimming through. It's very informative the chapter where Mr Miller is interviewing will Ryan is of course. Hilarious because we'll Ryan. And ATC is in here. Because of our interview with Phil about his work on Iliad house, high s-, so there's an entire chapter in there, which is basically convinced transcript of of our interview our conversation with Phil about Elliot house. So it's called the animated voice volume one by w r Miller, and there is a link in the show notes. If you wanna check it out nice. Also a little bit of a bonus today in honor of world audio drama day. We have some bonus audio from our conversation with Phil Lawlor in episode one tin and just a couple of little snippets that didn't make it into the final cut of the show that I thought were interesting. So there is a link in the show notes for the blog post, which has the that audio in it, and I came across this the other day, and I thought this was really interesting, it's not necessarily audio drama related. But I thought it was funny Francis Drake who remember from under Drake's flag from heirloom audio. They're very I g Hindi production. He had an island that he sailed from back in fifteen seventy seven, and it is in the Plymouth sound. It's six hundred meters off of the mainland, and it's called Drake's island. There is a fortress on their castle on there with a. Dungeon and all kinds of interesting stuff. Where sir Francis Drake actually spent some time, and it is for sale. Yeah. I think somebody in our audio drama world should by this turn into the audio drama enthusiasts Airbnb or something. It has already been granted permission to turn it into some kind of luxury hotel and chain diseases team Bill does he? We get what we can have audio drama conference there who. Next next site of the the the Seneca was cynical. The name was totally. Sliding right of my mind. No good. I had broadcasting from the dungeon. Yeah. So in fifteen eighty three Francis Drake was made the governor of this island, and you can own this. Yeah. How much how much tell us tell us. Well, it is on sale for six million British pounds doesn't never Andhra has that in his account. Yeah. If only so says that it's been put up for sale with a guide price is that a British term for like a starting bid or something like that. I would guess that sounds about right. So yeah. There you go. I'm sure you've got that line around go grab this. If it's a super cool looking island all kinds of different ancient buildings on their six acres. Yeah. Let's do pool our resources. That's right. We'll do. Let's do a go fund me or something or million six hundred ninety nine thousand eight hundred twelve US dollars. What is it seven million six hundred ninety nine thousand eight hundred twelve so eight million bucks. Yeah. We can the shown us to that. If you if you have that change line around anyone grab that island. Check the couch cushions. Yeah. Check the couch. Cushions? So we we had a suggestion from Carlton who wanted us to chat about this for a few minutes. He says what is the ideal link for an audio drama. I know my answer is what do you? What do you think ROY thought my head? I came to mind thirty minutes. Really, okay. Andrew. This is a good question. I don't know. Dodgers. The first thing that was like fresh yet. It has fell fish knee-jerk reac. Yeah. That was neater initial idea when I think of audio drama. Fair question because that's what my mo- I mostly listen to thirty minutes. Very true. Well, it's actually to clarify. I'll listen to five or six thirty minute shows back to back. Good point. Because it's the story is changing every thirty minutes. Yeah. I don't know. I like long audio drama. I like short audio drama. Average. I would say the minimum is thirty minutes. Yes. I would agree with that anything less than that feels too short. Now when I say anything less than that. I mean, the, quote unquote, thirty minutes that we think of as yeah. With commercials, right? Twenty five twenty six minutes. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. How ever in that range? But I don't know. Maybe I think I like the longer ones better. Yeah. Maybe the longer the better. So maybe five hours ask if. Ask if. We got five hours thirty minutes. JD? Well, I just want to point out that. The cross maker is less than thirty minutes. So we can't write off which under thirty. Yeah. And we yeah. And we talk about stuff on the show that is under like, you know, for liberty university. Their shows are like fifteen twelve minutes apiece. Yeah. But what if you put them all together? Yeah. Yeah. So the whole story. So right. He doesn't say an episode here. I for four so ideal. Is there such a thing as ideal? I don't know. I think what what how much time. Do you need to tell this story? I mean, we'll look you mentioned five hours. Oliver twist was like five hours at home in mitford was never it didn't feel too long. No short to be Frank. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. We'll be this is the end happens after that. Speaking of which get back to that. After that. There's a whole cookbook, I found really matter of fact. Yeah. Yes.

"And now audio theatre central. Hi there. I'm John Whitaker. Most folks around here call me with. My name is billion Jones and new. Hello. I'm Dave Arnold your host for focus on the family radio theater. Hello, welcome. Audio theatre central. This is the show. It's all about family, friendly, audio drama. I'm Jay Dee in. I'm ROY, and I'm Andrew, welcome to episode one. Nine, got a lot of stuff to get through today. We are going to be reviewing lamplight or theaters escaped from the eagle's nest. We've got some feedback from Austin and Jeremiah. We'd get a newscast coming up and we've got some interesting audio drama Tibbets that we're going to get to here in a few minutes. And one mention right at the top of the show just in case you haven't listened to the Senecas broadcast head over to the Senecas dot org and listen in to the the replay of that broadcast. We really would like to get your feedback on what you think of it. And I look at the numbers and I know that not all of the ATC listeners have went and listen to this. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was a fun night of awards and chocolate milk. Of course, because what night would be complete without such eggs actly. Yes. So the Senecas dot org, check it out and let us know what you think. ROY news? Yes. All right. Agusan institute has announced that their next air theater production will retail. The legend of robinhood producer Paul mccusker said that after three audio dramas focused on saints, they felt it was time for redirection wise. King media's new biblical epic, audio drama. The event him now has volume one available for preorder at the event him dot com. A group of OT are fans recently collaborated together to remake a classic episode of the shadow. The episode titled black rock has been released and is available to listen to for free at the shadow remake dot com. That's it. For the news time, I am ROY reporting for audio theatre central. Little bit less of a newscast last episode, what I was thinking. Yeah, they, yeah. Good for ROY. Yeah, needed a little break. That's right. No kidding. Last time I think you earn it. Well, I just wanted to kind of piggyback on some of those things that you mentioned here and do the automated bits segment up frontier. Yeah, la- switch it up and keep people on their toes. Right. So you mentioned the advantage and I have heard the first two episodes of that series, and it is very, very well done. I'm really excited about this one, and I think big drama fans are going to really like this. There's a lot of millionaires involved in this project. Katie Lee, John four Nov, Jared deepest wall. So you know, Weiss, king media has is spearheading this. They're the ones producing it, but they're bringing in a lot of familiar names to work on this one. Nice. Excellent. Also, you mentioned in the last episode episode one. Oh, eight. Newscast about the new audio drama called come see which is also a biblical store. Sorry, but it's very unique. They're using binary or three d audio, and it really makes you feel like you are right in the midst of the story. You are the listener as actually a character in the story. And so that ROY and I both think have listened to the first episode of that. I just wanna say, you definitely want to check this out. You can go get the first episode for free, so it's worth checking out. These are all independent producers working together to make this show. And I think they're doing a really good job as well. Yeah, and especially the unique spend, they're taking on it with the whole minority found everything. Just make sure you listen in headphones Zacklin. And what does don't slap yourself trying to get the fly out ear. There's one point where you're standing on the banks of the Jordan river, and you have John the Baptist like out in the distance and you hear him talking, but you have other voices that are right next to you. It's just really interesting the way they're the approach they're taking. I think it's really cool a couple of details about Robin Hood. Originally, I was thinking that they would probably have that done by this year, but that is not going to be the case. I've heard from their team that is probably not going to be available till next spring. So this is an epic Lee, long production. They recently were in London recording and the script was over three hundred pages long, whoa. And they, they have over fifty hours of recording of because I know for we know that like forty forty pages of script is like half an hour right. Forty thirty. Yeah. So man they had over sixty are they had around sixty five actors and they're going to take all those all those hours of recording and get it down to six hours of the finished product. Let's while amazing. You know they make could make a mint of just sold the raw recordings as like a secondary bonus thing. I mean, they have all that. We'd love to hear that. Oh, my goodness. Are you kidding me? Multiple takes of of different line. Yeah, that'd be so cool. Actually, this probably all audio drama should do that. Like get the director's cut or whatever. Equal. So I'm really excited about that and the feedback that we're hearing from our audience about the prospect of this audio drama is pretty positive. So I'm excited for it also really quick when a shoutout to listener Joe cya, who let us know about on new audio drama or as it's not really new new to us, not drama that's being produced for kids. It's called discovery mountain. It's available as a podcast, so you can check that out, Lincoln the show notes. But I've been listening to that been in touch with their team over there and they're doing some really good work too. So it's very interesting. I'm, I think I finished the first season of that show, and so we'll be talking about that may see something about that on the blog coming up in the next few months. So discovery mountain, pretty good stuff. Well, I think we should jump into this review.

"The flags i i think you out of any others out of every series that we follow their artwork is always the best nervous maybe i mean i guess that's a subjective thing but run me i i like that style watt right me too a focus on the family radio theater at times has really good album or sometimes it's okay sometimes israeli goods assurance its own but um every one that i've seen from the hindi folks has been amazing dues the artist that does a steve tie roar torella much higher pronounce it but tiro creative is the moon group they always do fantastic work i'm really really liking it and i i bring that up because i think it's something that it's not a part of this audio experience but i think it's an essential component to making a good product i mean especially if it's going to be successful if you're putting it in stores or or whatever you gotta have good artwork in a good cover to grab people's attention even if it's just being sold digitally yeah it's still the album martha catches your attention i mean if you just have a bigger music symbol nobody is can skip red over the absolute lee some of the key cast members mr brian blessed as always plays jia handy as a fabulous job and john reese davies from who is the host of lamb fighter theater and has done bit parts um smaller parts over over the course of the hindi shows now plays a main character i knew a recognize that voice but i couldn't place with confess i was listening like he and he says something.

"Was there a particular character out of those three that are really stood out to you or someone that you kind of related with a little bit he proudly israeli lawless really okay and you mentioned earlier that you really liked the scottish of injures what was it about those that that you really liked i dislike and only the scottish aksy in ideas i i just like how funny jail less i say i very cool thank you so much for chatting with me here so if we break this down that law out of kid vernacular here but what i would say is that what heirloom audio does best admit that really knocks out of the park is they the create these worlds that are so realistic sounding and believable with a sound scabes that they create and engaging characters that a a nine year old boy is able to grab onto these stories and just have a blast with him right not so much what the character same but how they're saying it and like what yeah like what you said like and what kind of environment there you know that they're creating that's what they get that's what they feel unsafe the here yeah and kind of like trying to remember back when i was like that young i can see the the appeal of different cultures and different worlds you know places around the world and in a hearing different accents americans are weird we love listening to all different accents you know like people occur around the world they probably couldn't care less to hear an american accent beret like a you know it's just the weird thing that americans had leg listening to european accents and so that i can see that appeal so that's one thing that has always drawn my attention as well listening to these focus family radio theater over the years is you know we we like a hearing accents and steph zone.
