No problems along 66 right now in Maryland 270 southbound starting to see it fill in a bit. Coming out Frederick of off and on making your way to 109 but nothing major and then it looks good to the lane divide onto either loop of the beltway. It was westbound 32 before I -95 that was the report of a crash. Southbound Baltimore Washington Parkway inside the beltway after 450 where they were cleaning up some debris out of the roadway. Ramps from north and south 95 to go east on 32 remain blocked. You can still go west, but you will find eastbound traffic still diverting to I -95. You can rejoin 32 from Route You'll 1. find 32 stacked up after 29 north 95. You'll be delayed as you approach 216. Interloop south of town. You're still slow. St. Barnabas Road headed down toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. 210 north and Atkekeek. That wreck had been down near Livingston Road and taken the left lane. You'll find downtown. We're not too bad. Especially across the freeway. We're a little busier from Virginia back into the district by way of north 395. Inbound New York Avenue. Just the normal fight at the lights so far. You will find in Virginia we've got some slowing on the belt like coming out of Springfield Interloop headed toward 236. You'll notice the drop in humidity out there and temperatures not too bad. The cold front came around midnight so temperatures haven't dropped too much. We're looking at over 60s over 70s. Later on today, we're going to see mostly sunny skies and temperatures warming up into the mid to upper 80s with nothing but sunshine in the forecast. Tonight, we're dropping back to a little bit cooler since we're going to have the entire night to cool down. We're looking at mostly sunny skies and temperatures warming up into Saturday. Not expecting any rain with this but another drop in temperatures just in time for the weekend with highs in the mid 80s for Saturday and Sunday and again a noticeable drop in the humidity. By next week, we'll be watching a gradual warming trend to temperatures a little bit above average with highs in the low to mid 90s but we're going to stay dry during that entire time so get outside and enjoy. You're coasted along the southbound side through northeast and southeast. You're fine on the DC the side Suitland of Parkway. Head over to Virginia. GW Parkway is volume heavy between the overlooks and Route 123. Long -term the road. The work zone has traffic getting by in a single lane in both directions and volume is starting to get heavy. I drive, -95, Virginia side with some volume slow spots south in separate stretches south through Springfield, Dale City. Head some slow spots routes north through Fredericksburg and Falmouth. The crash after Route 17 Falmouth, that was cleared from the left lane. I -395 I North, volume headed toward the inbound 14th Street Bridge. Slowdowns began near Boundary Channel 66 East east with volume inside the Beltway through Arlington after Glebe Road. Let's head over to Maryland. Route 50 had some heavy volume headed east from the Severn River Bridge toward the Old Toll Plaza on the eastbound side of 50 toward the Bay Bridge. Delays were heavy at times even with the three lanes east and two lanes west now with two -way operations on the Bay Bridge. BW Parkway had the crash south cleanup before Route 50 and New York Avenue split. That was cleared from the left lane last report. I 270 north after Route 28 we believe the crash that has been cleared from the left side and meanwhile around the beltway still with the crash cleanup on the outer loop near River Road that had the right lane on the ramp to River blocked and the crash on the inner loop of the Legion Bridge that crash still blocks at least the left lane. We're a little bit heavier now, some slowing after New Hampshire avenue as you head over toward Georgia avenue. Still a decent trip between the beltways, both 95 and the bottom of Washington Parkway. Up in burtonsville, it sounds like a crash off one 98. It's west of 29 year old Columbia pike. I think the crash is near santini road. That's limited lanes that are going to be there. You may be under police direction, possibly alternating two 70, you're fine, south coming out of Frederick, headed down toward the lane divide. We're a little bit heavy in Virginia ride 95 north, just moving through newington. It's the only slight delay between falmouth and Springfield. The crash in fort belvoir, southbound route one as you approach the fairfax county Parkway may have you here under police direction. 66 is good at a Gainesville east all the way to roslin, no troubles on the bellway yet between Alexandria and mcclain, trouble in the district around southwest, sounded like third street near eye street in Southwest, you may find limited lanes around police activity. Still reporting the issue on the rails, metro's red line, you can expect delays to glenmont because of a signal problem outside DuPont circle. We do believe at this point we still got our debris. It's out in Potomac. It's on river road between Travis road and as worthy road there had been debris down in the roadway. You may find yourself rerouted here. At least in Virginia, a ride in 66 Gainesville east to roslyn without delay, 95 as you leave falmouth headed north towards Springfield. We're a little crowded now in woodbridge, but that's kind of average at this hour. Three 95, you're wide open from the beltway, headed up toward the 14th. Looking good on the beltway itself between Alexandria and mcclain. There was some activity in the through lanes on the outer loop down around the Wilson bridge. I think even that tractor trailer has moved on. No worries to speak out along the greenway or the Delos toll road, no really hiccups along the George Washington Parkway. Good-looking trip downtown were quiet on the freeway. Third street tunnel, New York avenue, D.C. two 95, I two 95, everybody's looking good. In Maryland and no troubles yet at a Frederick run in two 70 south, heading toward the lane divide so far good topside outer loop from 95 over to Georgia avenue. Nice and quiet between the beltways for now on 95 in the Baltimore Washington Parkway. 50 you're fine between northeast and the bay bridge. East and westbound moving through Annapolis and buoy there was an earlier wreck reported eastbound on 7 O four as you ride out toward lots for vista road. You may still find authorities there if at all. We're in good shape out of southern Maryland. Traffic got moving a bit slowly both directions on the freeway you'll expect delays from the case bridge up to south capital street. We are a bit slow on D.C. two 95 in both directions coming off the 11th street bridge, those delays extending up to the area benning road, no problems in either direction over on itune 95. In Virginia, capitol building is still backed up as well on the inter loops. I leaving the tysons corner area in the 12 road very slow heading down and over the American legion bridge in a Montgomery county and we're crawling along northbound on the GW Parkway. The roadwork set up between one 23 and the bellway, only a single lane does get Shabbat. In the area of falmouth, northbound on I 95 approaching route 17, the disabled on the right side cleared, still very slow leaving Fredericksburg up through falmouth, a better ride when you're north of Stafford county. South founders were very slow over the quant after one 23. It does pick up for just a bit, but your major delays will kind of be picked up in the acquire harbor area. We're very slow all the way down to the Fredericksburg area. On 95, the northbound work persists after falmouth with the right lane getting by, then your Dale City, again, over to the right in a single file directed one 56 capital beltway inner loop work after Georgetown Picasso over to the left of the column of two outer loop work and roughly the same spot after the George Washington Memorial Park where you're two to the right to get by, but on the outer loop something else has been added, that's the work so near route 7 and that should be at least one right lane to get by. 66 westbound is where all the work is inside the bellway, there's working the rosland tunnel with the right lane getting by outside the work outside the beltway. He said the work near one 23 blocks the right lane after the fairfax shoddy Parkway single left getting by then single right gets by after the manassas rest area as you make for suddenly road on westbound 66 in Maryland, southbound BW Parkway still hung up after NASA Goddard heading toward green bell road, the work zone over on the left side, and then southbound Parkway, the ramp to go to the interloop of the capitol, beltway, mirrorless data authorities say that one is blocked for work. 50 across the bay bridge doing the two way samba on the west on the eastbound band with no delays as the westbound span gets some work done. Bulgar Washington Parkway southbound single right lane gets by the works on at green belt road past the guard rail work, north on lanes are open 95, two 70 each without delay. It's a two to the left to get by and then between the GW Parkway and towards town pike, both the inner and the outer loop to write lanes to get by that work. ". Mornings on WTO news. Where is now one 38? Traffic and weather on the east, let's go to Carlos Ramirez and the WTO traffic center. Thanks, rich. So far is so great on I 95 very few exceptions, the one I'm gonna talk about is gonna be that work zone on the northbound side of 95 on the ramp to the 17 exit that's for falmouth. As of now, that ramp is actually closed. Exit one 33 a in fact, be aware you're gonna need to find an alternate route just follow any direction through that area or plan ahead, plank road is a solid option, of course, or of course it seems like you could take 17 headed westbound. So that's an option as well. Otherwise, 95 looks great all the way up towards Springfield, 66 eastbound headed onto brute 50 on that access road. They do have a couple of cones over on the right side, not to worry, though, the ramps themselves are available to you. You can definitely head east or westbound on 50. It's just going to be a little crowded on that access road. 66 west bound, you got the right lane blocked past nutley street according to listeners that ramp is a little awkward or that transition is a little awkward as you get from nutly street onto westbound 66 because that right lane is blocked. You almost immediately coming off of not only have to move over towards the center or the far left lane where traffic is already at speed. So if you're driving on westbound 66, let's be kind to our vehicular neighbors here and step out of that center lane so that when they jump on to 66 westbound from not least street, it's a lot easier for them and they're not panicking. Beltway traffic looks good from Springfield up towards the American legion bridge and for that matter in Maryland, beltway traffic looks great from the American legion bridge down towards the Woodrow Wilson bridge. Yes, that is the entirety. It's all good. BW Parkway, southbound, should have a work zone there near one 97. I don't really see any delays there any longer, and I don't have the cones in camera, but according to Maryland Department of Transportation, you should have that work crew there with just a single lane getting by. Northbound 95 past one 75, two right lanes blocked, you get by with two over on the left hand side. You do have a two way traffic on the eastbound span of the bay bridge, by the way, single lane gets you by in either direction. Carlos Ramirez WTO traffic. Thanks rich northbound side of I 95 still has that work zone in Maryland headed past one 75 you're blocking or they are blocking the two lanes over on the right hand side of the roadway. No delays, but stay over to the left hand side as you approach 100. BW Parkway southbound had that work zone near one 71 97 rather should still be pretty slow through that area, single lane gets you by there. Beltway traffic looks pretty awesome, no issues headed to and from the American legion bridge. I two 70 looks good from Frederick all the way down towards the capitol beltway. If you are coming down from, say, hey Hagerstown or points north, but you're riding along I 70 continuing eastbound or rather southbound either way, you call it. Looks like they do have that work zone. As soon after the exit 66, it looks like two left lanes are blocked there just past mile marker 35. You should be getting by single file over on the right with minimal delays of course. Down in Virginia, 66 has a few work zones. If you're added eastbound, for example, the access road to route 50 has the work zone over on the right side of the roadway, you are able to get by without any issue, just stay over to the left and not to worry the ramps are available to you as well. 66 westbound, the right lane is blocked, headed past nutley street, no delays because of this one. I 95 north panel looks good, just be aware that the northbound ramp to 17 falmouth is currently blocked. You're going to need to find an alternate route. My suggestion probably stick to three or plank road there. It seems to be a solid option Carlos Ramirez will be traffic. No sooner had I finished my last report right before 2 o'clock than they shut down the capitol bellway at the Wilson bridge. They had the decks up. They were doing, I think this might be the last one they do. But for the moment, all traffic inner and outer loop is stopped at Alexandria and at oxen hill can't get onto the bridge because the bridge deck gates are still down. Hopefully we're going to get those lanes back in the next 5, ten minutes or so, but for the moment nothing moving on the capitol beltway or an outer loop at the Wilson bridge. Elsewhere, in Virginia, outer loop ramp to westbound 66 still blocked by work, we are still dodging the work zones on 66 westbound after the fair event Shetty Parkway and near the manassas rest area where you were down to a single file and then east batters your down to a single file if you're 28 centimeter for a little bit. I think you get your lanes back by the time you get to the fairfax county Parkway. 95, northbound watch for work. That is near falmouth exit one 33, just beyond exit one 33, the two right lanes are blocked southbound work is going to be after garrisonville. That's blocking the right lane. Something new has been added in loudoun county. It's going to be on 50 westbound after stone springs road. This can be near ratio lane. You got a down tree in the right on the right side of the roadway. One right lane is blocked in Maryland 95, BW Parkway now without reported delayed though, a rental mills boulevard as you try to lead the casino in that area and try to get out of the southbound BW Parkway with caution, crash activity, and you may have to work around police direction. It's blocking a ride later, at least according to Maryland state authorities it is, we had crash activity powder mill road westbound near the capitol near the Baltimore Washington Parkway and we were following police direction to get around in the district. Authorities name suspect in killing at Cape Cod motel
"The suspect in a murder of a Cape Cod woman this week is identified. Here's WBC's him done with the latest in the ongoing investigation. The Cayman Islands District attorney's Office says an arrest warrant's been obtained for 33 year old Clay Bar Mariano Jr of Falmouth in connection with the murder of 30 Year Old Mask, the resident Danielle Taylor. "Today we're GONNA be talking to Cherie Virago professor of medicine and medical molecular genetics and also director of the stem cell program. I use school of Medicine. He Generals General's GonNa talk to us today about stem cell. Therapy and car T.. Therapy in particular which you may have heard in the news but before we get to that. Let's start with some basics first of all. Welcome to the program program thank you. Can you tell us in general what it means to be not only a professor of medicine but a professor of medical and molecular genetics so medical Michael Molecular Genetics. It's a very broad term It's it's really looking at the molecular basis of disease Not just inherited a disease but Many of the diseases have a molecular basis. Even if they're not directly inherited had he actually look get to the molecular basis. What kind of research technologies are you using? The biggest technology at the moment is Sequencing genes particularly in in terms of Chewers in my area sequencing can cell's genome to identify particular mutations. That could be targetable identifying mutations Sion's that in future could be Way We could design drugs perhaps decided Also there are ways of personalizing Medicine in a way Way We can identify Because not all cancer even the same kind of cancer is not all Homogeneous there's a lot of heterogeneity so if you can identify certain mutations in a person's at cancer cell you may be able to target that specifically perfect for that person's cancer as opposed to all the people with that kind of cancer. So how do you train to do this kind of work so in your career career how what did you do to get to this point. Well I guess there are various ways of getting there the way I got there. I trained actually in Australia Did all my hematology. Aw called you training in Australia. And then I did a PhD. That was more related to stem cell transplantation rather than molecular medicine at the time and then I moved to Ohio state where I stayed there for about six years on faculty and then the opportunity came to lead the transplant program. Ram At Indiana University. So I moved there in two thousand six. So we're talking about treating cancer. Is it all kinds of cancer or specific kinds of cancer. Turner accident well as a stem cell transplant. we're really focusing on hematological. Kansas blood cancers So leukemia multiple myeloma lymphoma. These are the ones that are amenable really to stem cell transplantation. You talk about what the differences are between those three short so It's really the cell of origin or the origin of the cancer so leukemia we're really talking about Cancers of blood stem cells the bone marrow in multiple myeloma. We're really talking about Cancer cells plasma cells which really part of the immune system in lymph falmouth with talking about cancer cells that are also part of the immune system that the less differentiated cells than the Coloma. So what what causes these. What makes someone developed one of those types of cancer? Yes so you know historically the we have been treating and we still the do treat These cancers with conventional cytotoxic agents these agents are essentially cellular toxins that cause DNA damage to the cells and as a result they The cells sells died and they because cancer cells tend to divide more frequently or more rapidly than normal cells and these conventional channel cytotoxic target the proliferating cells more than the Doman cells. So we're able to Mo- selectively kill cancer cells. But they are. They also affect normal cells as well as things have evolved We are now able to. We learn more about the genetics of the Kansas. His when now able to design drugs that particularly targets in pathways molecular pathways. That these cancer cells depend on so Treatment has become Less toxic to the to the patient in general so we're trying to target specifically just killing the cancer while not killing other other rapidly or any other kinda cells in the body. So what is then stem cell. Therapy like what. What's the difference between what skyping there and then going all the way to say? We're GONNA do a stem cell. Trance have so in some cases not all Kansas but some Kansas are also amenable to stem cell transplant therapy. And they're really too broadly. Speaking to approach is one where we use. The patient's own stem cells called tolerance stem cell transplantation. And where we use dona cells or allogeneic stem cell transplantation so with autologous transplantation plantation would really reverting back to the classic cytotoxic approach way we give very high doses of chemotherapy to Kill Oh as many cancer cells as possible. One of the side effects of this is that it will also cools a permanent damage to the bone marrow of people without stem cell support report. They would Essentially die of marrow failure so to collect stem cells. I there on stem cells assuming their stem cells not diseased. Then when you can give high dose. Chemotherapy give back stem cells and allow the marrow to recover so I have a couple questions there first of all. How do you get the stem cells? Out So stem cells live predominantly in the bone marrow But they do circulate the blood so you can either collect directly from the bone marrow but more commonly family today in the autologous approach we give growth factors which can move stem cells to circulate more in the blood and then we collect them. I'm by a process called a ferocious. Where basically they are collected a blood donor machine essentially that will collect them from the blood? How do you how do you how are you sure? You're not collecting cancer cells at the same time you do Some of these stem cell products will be contaminated but to some extent by cancer sells but it seems that most relapses after autologous transplantation occur not because of contamination. But because you really the the chemo a high dose chemotherapy that you've given has not killed the last cancer cell in the body. So how are you also assured that the stem cells are not. Can't where's the cancer come from. If it's not coming mm from stem cells as the simpsons or what about the sort of the the. He met a poetic stem cells. That give rise to the sherm tie. He met a point system. MM-HMM SO For example in multiple myeloma these inadequate ext themselves are not cancerous. Okay and in lymphomas Somali. They are not not cancerous.
