I d Viard it last night because I was watching something else. I love these Alaska show was just I'm hooked on these things. They live in Alaska. But yet some of them are not good at survival and being out in the cold. I never understood that. But anyway, I digress. So one of the controversies apparently in this story of Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky way back in the nineties is the characterization or the depiction of the actress. Playing Linda Tripp, the employee who originally initially recorded Monica Lewinsky that led to the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton, not removal, just an impeachment. And now she's getting grief. Sarah Paulson is because you apparently wore a fat suit to play Linda Tripp. And experts say, And I'm reading from the story in USA Today, experts say, fats who's perpetuate bias against fat people and make the question of why thin actors are getting these roles. Can we stop for a second? It's called acting for a reason. I mean, Is basically the rule. Now that the person is playing the role has to be the exact same physical shape has to be from the same country has to be from the same race. To play the character. I thought that, Hamilton said. That didn't have to be the case. Last time I checked, Hamilton has a bunch of people who are not whites playing. History. Of whites. American leaders. From a long time ago. Why are we allowing this to to gain traction? Picking on fat people is wrong. And if you are making fun of a fat person or making fun of weight gain, that's What the crime is. It's not wearing a fat suit. It's not wearing makeup to portray something with a big nose. In a film. And I'm sorry. Too many of these critics are getting way too much attention for this nonsense and frankly General statement. Critics get way too much attention to begin with. My friend Christian Snyder, who joins me on Tuesdays. Every couple of weeks. Has a great feature that he does on Social media called Zero Star reviews. How wrong critics are This is an extension of that. It's called acting. You are supposed to be. Assuming the identity and if you have the ability to portray the character and you're not fats, you can do two things. You can gain weights. Or you can wear fat suits. Which in my mind is the same thing as wearing a prosthetic nose, fakirs hair when you're bald fill in the blank. This.

"Even as a parent to my daughters is you can't hurry love that. I think that that is like my favorite like that's my anthem of life. Yeah, I love singing that on stage because it is so true, You know, it's just you and I could hear my mom saying things like that, even though she never said that, But I'm acting in here. That's what they're saying. Just cool out. You know, apparently Mary Wilson with us. She was in the Supremes longer than anyone. Guess. And Duke Fakir from the legendary four tops the only surviving member of that great group You mentioned there were four originally what happened? And how did you become three? We would call the primates and at the time Betty, the first girl, as I mentioned was a little older than the three of us. And so she got married, and then we got another young lady Barbara Martin, who stayed with us. In fact, Barber was on our first album, Meet the Supremes. She was a supreme as well. But she fell in love and left the group. So we said, Well, looks like nobody loves us, So we'll just stay three that we got from Fayed was three. But I tell you really messed up our harmonies because we really had good harmony. And when we had three, then we no longer have that really quartet kind of harmony. But that's how we ended up with three. Was there a big rivalry with the Supremes? The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and your other Motown label mates? No. You know why people often ask that But there was a certain kind of there was a competitiveness, but it wasn't out of trans people trying to outdo each other. It was we all were great, but I remember doing some of the tours. The contours would open and they would make that stage so hot, they said. Now top that so whoever would go out next, we'll try to top that. And, you know, keep growing, but we all admired And love being around each other. We were we were like friends. I remember seeing Marvin Gaye at the piano and just sitting there just swooning for them. And first time I saw you do got me. I just fell in love with him Another story, but I mean, we're what it wasn't. It wasn't competitive in in in a negative way. It was like we everyone was great, and we all wanted to be together. The guys all the guy groups would play sports together. It was like Marvin Gaye. With the football and they played golf and they get the girls the girls. We were kind of, you know, dressing and things like that. So we were really friends. It was really a wonderful environment at Motown. It will work. I'd say it's fun to play Motown and then watch Mary Wilson of the Supremes and Duke. Secure the four tops doing the dance moves right here in the WGN studio. Do you guys still remember the first.

"Time you heard one of your records on the radio? Mary? You were still living in the same apartment that you grew up in, right? Still living in the Brewster projects in Detroit. The one thing about whether I love go was that Um, As I said, I didn't like it. None of us liked it. But anyway, when when we heard that you could hear it all the windows in the Brewster projects. You know, it was like, Wow. And all your baby baby, and it was like all over the streets, you know for the projects. It was really that was fantastic. Because here here we are home girls made it big. It's a hit on the radio, and everyone knew it. But I tell you, they're really the first time. That we really felt the success was we were on a dick Clark tour. And I remember this very well because Dick Clark had wanted Brenda wasn't a holiday we're with was Brenda Leigh. Brenda Holloway. Brenda Hollis. She's a little bit, huh? So he wanted her on the show. So when he called Motown to get her They told him and say, Well, you can have her if you take the Supremes, and so it was a well, who are the supreme that it wasn't you know, I've become a group. They got a hit record coming out when we know it's gonna be here so you can have them both. But nothing. I mean, pretty much. That's what ended up being. But anyway, so he says, No, I don't want any supreme value one. Brenda Holloway, you know, so they convinced him to have to take the Supremes. So we go on the tour. It was Gene Pitney, The drifters, The Shirelles, Uh, all kind of people and others and we were the end of this right way with the first couple of days. We don't This show when they introduced up Gene Pitney the crowd coke thing, then they would induce whoever else and then they've introduced us. And people kind of like this barely clap. A couple of weeks into the tour. They introduce the Supremes and the people went wild, and we couldn't figure out what the Gene Pitney stick his head out of. You know something like that. But I reckon happened played on the radio and had become a hit while we were on that tour. We went back home. We flew back home, which was kind of cool and we got back and we asked Mrs. Whatever her name was for our money. And she said, What money? Usually they do. You know, we gave you away on the two of you didn't pay you When I wake up. I recognize a hit when I get paid, but that was a big getting of our success. She was a very sweet, wonderful woman and a great talent. Mary Wilson. Of the Supremes passing away at the age of 76. He was at her home in Henderson, Nevada, and they say a celebration of her life will take place later this year. She was in town with the four tops, and that's why you heard a little of Ah Duke Fakir of the four tops in that clip. They did a holiday show in December of 2013 and also January 2014 at the Harris Theater here in Chicago. She was able to help out around, get a shot at a nearby pop up clinic. Janice Taguchi, executive director of Neighborhood House, says their clients were also given early access to sign up for the mass vaccine site. That would definitely be an example of what worked. More of that would be great, she says. Doses should go directly to primary care doctors in non white communities and the state needs a centralized waiting list. So when vaccine is available, people aren't overlooked before we just go to the next round, which is gonna be kind of a mad dash that we ensure that there is equity and that the Smaller populations have access. The data from the Seattle area does show that overall communities of color are getting vaccinated at lower rates than whites, Public health director Patty Hayes says in part that reflects the lack of diversity in the health care workforce, the first group to get vaccinated, But early data from their mass vaccine sites show promise. Moving around blindly trying to make decisions around where to send vaccine without having information. That's what kills communities who are not centered, Perry says. Unless there's pressure on states to collect this information, it won't happen. Biden administration is now calling on states to get more consistent data. Dr. Helene Gayle led a national Academies of Medicine Committee on vaccine equity, sometimes in the rush to get his many people vaccinated. We're not thinking about making sure that we're focusing on the people who are at greatest risk, but Gil says there's still plenty of time for a coordinated national strategy to turn this around. For NPR News. I'm will stone today In Florida Democratic lawmakers introduced a bill that would repeal a law often called Stand your Ground. It's a measure that allows people to use deadly force when acting in self defense. The law is controversial. But in the 16 years since Florida past it Stand. Your ground has been adopted by most U. But more importantly, Put black people And other people of color and the greater risk of gun violence in states with stand your ground laws and analysis of FBI data found when the gunman is white, and the victim is black homicides are five times more likely to be deemed justified then when the situation is reversed. After Florida passed the first standard ground law in 2005. Robin Thomas, with the Giffords Law Center to prevent Gun violence, says many other states followed suit, largely because of intense lobbying by the National Rifle Association. These laws just past sort of methodically, particularly in Red states State by state by state. Over the course of about 10 years, 27 States now have stand your ground laws, high profile cases like those involving Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis. There were a lot of members on both sides with strong feelings about whether or not this is something that house should be doing. And this was much of the theme we saw today from Democrats and impassioned plea defending this rare move to expel a member of the minority party from their committee assignment. They recounted greens. Previous statements that certain school shootings were staged that she called for the death of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other disturbing comments and social media posts such as the one that Hoyer showed on the floor.
