"Three topics. You've got seven minutes. Las Vegas. Odds say no, Shelly won't be able to do it. But here we go. All the bad news. It's been happening in 2020. You decided you would scrounge around and try to find something positive to say. About transportation in the year. 2020 Well, considering I spent most of the year diving into transportation stories. Yeah, There's been so much negative. I thought I'd look at some of the fun or positive stories this year and One of them is actually sound transit Despite the fact it's losing hundreds of wickets of dollars at the fair box and it from tax revenue because of the pandemic. It's actually making some pretty good progress on expanding light rail. I mean, North Gate's gonna open next year. We've got the work to Lynwood really taking shape. The Bellevue Tunnel actually is opened and for well, it's finished. Except for running the trains and practicing through there, so they're on schedule there, so they made a pretty good dance in their work there. So actually sound transit gets Ah, thumbs up for the amount of work they were able to get done this year, So that was one of the ones the schedule. There are yes, they're on schedule based on you know the start dates for these particular projects. I mean, we could always go back to the original 10 years. That sound transit just kind of doesn't exist. But no, This is, uh, this is from when they started to now they're pretty much on schedule, maybe a hair behind a little over budget. But there I mean, they did some good work this year so and you could see it along I five. You could see it on four or 55 20. So, yeah, they get a lot of bad rap so, but they also do some good stuff in today's but wasn't this year was a good year for them at least construction wise. Okay, Another one. I thought Front of fun one this year, the Fairview Avenue Bridge. I'm sure a lot of people don't really know about that. When it's a kind of a backdoor route along like you need that people used to get from state of. So the Mercer Mesto work their way up through the U District that having to get on the I five upon fair views. They're replacing that bridge and it's right there on the water of Lake Union, they actually found a unmapped shipwreck. Their earlier earlier this year. It's It was an old, I'm not sure probably just working vote there on the on the lake, but it hadn't been mapped before they found is about 25 Ft by 25. FT. Didn't have any cultural significance or archaeological significance. They brought people in their gold. Was already gold. No, apparently not. So they just left it there. Somebody was. It's kind of cool. Whatever you could find things like that on construction projects that kind of put on my Felix, But l had that kind of like that kind of history stuff. So, Yeah, There was a couple of things that highlighted this year that Kind of fun or different in a year. Full of pretty awful news. Yes, By the way, did you get a chance to see I the state transportation plan. They're talking. You should look into this and maybe have this next week. Vehicles, miles miles traveled, but the music was yes. Well, also, just generally, the miles traveled per vehicle. They want to keep dropping that from 18% to 30% and drop it down to 50%. Just having you drive less and less smiles all the time. And then get you onto public transportation. This being the big push. And even though that they've never been able to achieve it, they still are pushing for reducing how many people drive. How many miles all the time. And then all the work that is going into weaving equity on We've and have to make sure that that's the main one of the main focuses of the department's here in Olympia. Have have you seen any of that sort of matter of fact, this is something that I've been working on or became aware of during some of the work on the replacement of repair of the West Seattle Bridge during one of the first meetings that I attended, virtually obviously online. Where they were talking Maura about the equity of the bridge and the equity of the transportation around west Seattle in the equity of the replacement or repair of the bridge more than they were actually about fixing the problem, which is the cracking concrete, and I was really surprised by that. I mean, the first thing they kept talking well, we can't just force people into these neighborhoods because they have been Traditionally the foot forcing, you know, bad health because they live along freeways and I was like, Wow. Okay. I kind of understand that those air concerns But shouldn't the primary be concerned? Be? Reopening a bridge that takes 100,000 people a day. And so, but that's a very big push. Now the equity has become a very popular buzz word for a lot of things. But in transportation, it's becoming a focus, especially on the West Coast. For when you want to flavor, the discussion a certain way that that becomes an issue and we're not. So I'm not saying that that you know equity is something that we shouldn't be going for, but In transportation. It seems that that should be a little down the list as opposed to actually getting things done that make the grid and the transportation system work. But yeah, that's something that's becoming very popular and being we've throughout a lot of things, but yeah, it was. It was odd to see it in transportation, but that's where we're going. Yeah, well, had no effect that did that lode. Star of Equity didn't have any effect upon the work. It was supposed to be done on the five bridges, right? No, not now. There's no notice. Far as we know what you're talking about. The Seattle Times article about how much over budget it's going to be for repairing the 16 bridges from the moves. Seattle Levy Back in 2015 voters voted for what $900 million worth of projects to make Seattle better. In fact, I mean, is called move. Seattle and A couple of years later, we've come to find out that the estimates for repairing these bridges and Louisa repair we're talking, seismically upgraded getting these bridges to.

"The bingo card looking at the drive Right now. We are all lanes of South bound. Five except the H O. V lane have just closed. A rented the Bellevue Drive's still hovering around a half A Now we still have work to do up through Newcastle. We also have some work to do on from North found five from the middle of Boeing Field on a bit of downtown. Looks like we might have a new stole lock in a lane near Mercer, which is making that 25 minute drive off just a little heavier from South Center into downtown traffic. Brought to you by Spawn. Foggy morning should burn off to partly sunny skies is afternoon. Still chilly, though mid to upper fifties for your high right now 51 outside our studios. I'm Colleen O'Brien. Be fully prepared for your day everyday. This is Seattle's morning news with Dave Ross. Here we go, boys. You never know what you're gonna find when you start digging in the Seattle area, and the same is true when you go underwater and contractors of now Found a privilege of previously uncharted wreck in Lake Union, right where the Fairview Avenue Bridge is now located here scripts. Yet divers have found more than 75 wrecks at the bottom of Lake Union. Over time. Most of them have been charted, but only a handful have been identified. So you can imagine the surprise when contractors removing old timber pilings that held up part of the Fairview Avenue bridge. Found a wreck that they weren't expecting. People have gone through and maps some of the sunken ships that are on the bottom of the union. The one that we found, though, was not math. So it was a complete surprise. So it had been cut in half and then deliberately sunk some time ago. I think, what do we think? 70 years ago? Or so? Project manager Maryland Yim Saysthe would records about 25 ft. Long 25 ft wide. It was close to the north End of the bridge kind of near the Seattle seaplanes Mauritz. We tried to see if there's any kind of distinctive markings. Anything that might be special that that was part of the archeological historical evaluation of the finds. The archaeologists didn't find anything distinctive, and there was enough room between it and the bridge that it was left Where it wass by popular diving Selfie spot, though near a submerged Harley Davidson will not get to stay. The motorcycle had to be pulled from the water. Divers used to know where it was and go visit it from time to time. And so, unfortunately, that was one of the pieces of debris that we had to remove in cleaning up underneath the bridge. As for the project itself, him hopes to have the bridge open and early spring about a year and a half after it closed its been a somewhat challenging project concerning amount of room that they have down there and working over the water is never easy. We have the landmark in historic steam plant building on one side. We have high voltage Charlie's on the other and you know they can't really approach Everything from the water by barge can't do everything from the land. And so you know, it's been a little bit tricky and challenging, too, to build this thing, But the project is on schedule and him says it will be a much different looking bridge..
