"You want to know three on WTO on this cloudy, misty Wednesday, the 5th of October, 52° now, as we head near 60. Good morning, I'm Mark Lewis. And I'm Gigi Barnett, the top local stories we're following this hour. It's already allowed in some parts of Maryland and now D.C. is moving in the same direction. A bill before the D.C. council will give non citizens, including undocumented immigrants and green card holders living in the district, the right to vote in local elections. In a 12 to one vote, the council passed the election bill sending it onto a final vote expected next month. Ward 6 council member Charles Allen says non citizens living in the district at least 30 days deserve the right to vote. This bill is in line with our D.C. values. And this council's history of expanding the right to vote and welcoming new voices into our political process and government. Ward three council member Mary che cast the only vote against the bill, arguing that people should be required to live in the district longer than 30 days before they can vote. I would think that some greater period of time should be required. Particularly on WTO P news. Another bill which received unanimous support from lawmakers would make voting by mail a permanent feature in D.C. elections. It appears Marilyn governor Larry Hogan will be called as a witness in the federal fraud trial of Roy McGrath, his former chief of staff. They will be asked if they can remain fair and impartial given the fact that governor Hogan is the governor of the state of Maryland. A graph faces an 8 count federal indictment, including wire fraud and embezzlement charges, Hogan has repeatedly denied knowing of or approving of severance payments, negotiated by McGrath, his trial is scheduled to begin October 24th. I still couldn't find the thing that was like, hey, you might be scared. School board member Melanie Marin. You might be in denial. You might not want these services for your kid. A national school bus driver shortage has been hitting the annual county public school system, especially hard. And school leaders say they now have an idea, as they try to address the issue. Saying it's more like a band aid than an actual fix. This is not a cure for families. It is a temporary solution. And arundel county superintendent Mark bedell confirmed that the school system has identified 40 buses that can make an additional run during their day, either to a middle school in the morning, or to an elementary school in the afternoon, spreading bus service out in an effort to reach more students. In other news, we love him and soccer fans adore his play by play, not hard to understand why, but it looks like Dave Johnson's incredible ren as a voice of D.C. United has come to an end. I've been so blessed. This Sunday will mark Dave Johnson's last game with the team as the play by play man as Apple TV takes over all broadcasts for Major League Soccer. A lifelong soccer fan Johnson says before losing his mom to multiple sclerosis in 1979 an illness he now battles, one of her last good days was watching a Washington diplomat's game in the 70s before the team folded. For 27 years, with D.C. United, I've been able to recreate that magic time for the childhood each and every week. He says the connections he's made along the way have been priceless and he hopes to be with D.C. United in some capacity moving forward, but I'm sure one thing fans will miss the most is hearing this. It said that gold D.C. United. Mike Murillo, WTO news. There

"Puts his money where his mouth is Carl Let's talk to our fancy fairfax county school board friendship This word woke I don't mean just don't be a hole to people that are different than you I might be finding it correctly Okay I mean you know and it's become a term thrown around on the right with great abandoned just like CRT It's a catch all for everything they don't like about us Yeah But I mean you know the famous first they came poem right You know they came for fill in the blank I didn't stand up because I wasn't I mean was the embodiment of that She's like I'm a straight white Christian mom suburban mom Because that's the whole thing is the attempt to otherwise people They go you must be for that He is a cursor right in his nose It looks like it's picking his nose Could you please move that Thanks so much Okay go ahead Carl Well sometimes I feel like I want to curse I mean her remarks I wanted to scream ditto from the rooftops And then I remember people probably younger people don't know what it ditto is But I agree with everything she had to say and I wish more people would say it You know this line of attack that's going on right now on the right is just nuts Yeah Yeah no it really is That's what I mean I've heard this so much now and that's what it just doesn't mean just don't be a D to other people It's not what woke means that we have a lot of diversity in this country Someone is different than you I mean I think inherent in what she said is you shouldn't have to be a straight white Christian conservative mom to have credibility to go don't be D's to kids Seem different to you right Right I think it's just about being aware And being conscious of people's differences and that not everybody has the same experiences that you do And that scares some people Because it implies this foreign human emotion to them empathy Yeah Yeah Well you know Carl you seem to me too to be in a really unique position and that you're on the school board and you are a political strategist And here we go into the midterms And they're running a lot on these cultural issues right This is what they said junkin one on that oh we're the parents party I mean and Brian Tyler Collins tweeted so far the Republican Party has banned abortion books History lessons in Disney because they really really really hate cancel culture I mean I feel like this is a war we can fight and win Again majorities are on our side on all these issues Yeah and not only that this really isn't to them about winning over new voters This is really just about motivating their base And it tells you volumes that this is the kind of stuff they have to turn to to motivate their base when Donald Trump is no longer on the ballot You know this is what they have to do to get their Republican voters out to vote You know it's frightening that this is what motivates their party Yeah Yeah Well here's just some numbers Oh I believe our suit tweeted this but 2021 registered voters 40% Democrats 31% independence 29% Republicans 4 million new 18 years old eligible voters She just said when we vote we win I mean again people feel overwhelmed like oh the majority thinks this or this It's like the Republicans are not even 30% of the country right So we have to not feel overwhelmed and realize that we are in greater numbers if we just turn out right As long as we vote some really bad things won't happen I realize that it's difficult for a lot of people to see the utility in voting They don't feel like they got everything they wanted when the presidency changed over But that's because we need more people not fewer in Washington who support those values It means we need more senators and more members of the house to support those values And the exact opposite will happen If Republicans win control And when you see their agenda it should frighten everybody into taking a stand and getting involved Yeah yeah no absolutely I mean I was saying you know obviously this mask thing is driving me insane I'm glad the DoJ is appealing it I'm glad the CDC is obviously taking the position they have But when you're feeling like you're taking crazy pills you're like 60% of the American people think the mask mandate should remain In transportation quarters I talked to a teacher yesterday from out here who said we just masking I'm sick I mean we've just seen in England as we've talked about yesterday you know where they've lifted all the mask mandates all the flight they're canceling flights because all the flight crews are sick I mean when you feel like you're living again in the idiocracy But again I guess I'm heartened by the numbers but I don't know what's going to happen legally What's your take on it I guess we'll have to see what happens You know I did see yesterday that the CDC has the Department of Justice to appeal that court decision I think it would be lunacy if the presidency can not impose safety protocols in the middle of a pandemic I think that would be lunacy And it's no surprise that it came from a Trump judge But I mean when you learn all the details it makes you even more infuriated She was supposed to be for her jurisdiction not for the whole country She took that She didn't hear arguments at all That is astounding You're right that one person having a president that might have appointed her Yeah no exactly But it can rule on public health for 330 million Americans I mean and it's like I say as things started to sink in you just had doctors and health experts regular people just infuriated by this So have you heard what the timeline might be for this Because obviously a lot of us were hoping that they would ask for a stay Clearly now everybody's flying without they don't have to wear masks now So what do you think I believe that would be the first step in appealing that they would ask first day so that nothing would be enforced until after this work sits way through the courts I've not seen if they've done that yet And I certainly saw the news that DoJ would be appealing I imagine part of their strategy is going to be to ask the first day as well Yeah Yeah So let's turn to January 6th for a minute I have to say it's.
