How the Post Office Grew America

"Story starts with the crown post post office of the british crown. The thirteen colonies were quite isolated and independent of each other. Few people had relatives or friends at the other colonies thus neither male nor good roads connecting them were important. Thirteen drivers freedom in how this letter was too many places to send it now. It's a different story in the beginning. The only real mail that was sent or received was to the uk but without a post office sending things and receiving them was problematic. The first colony to request to remedy for this problem was massachusetts bay on november fifth. Sixteen thirty nine. The general court of that colony directed that richard fairbanks has tavern would be where letters were delivered and picked up giving richard one cent for each letter. Managed in the new netherland. Coney the dutch west indies company. Who ran the colony made a similar determination. They constructed a box at the port for letters to be picked up and mailed but there was no general consensus or common interest among the colonies to take it any further and the only times. The problem came to a head as when the colonies faced a common emmy but had no roads or male to aid in their communication. It wasn't until the reign of william the third new england in sixteen ninety that any sort of postal system was established williams. Third had assessed. His call is which had now grown to two hundred thousand people and decided he wanted to have postal communication between massachusetts pennsylvania and new york. He had some roads built but didn't send money to do much more than that. But in seventeen fifty three all would change. Benjamin franklin became the postmaster for the crown post and philadelphia.

"There is an example of what it really really truly is to be like woking unquote because i like how she calls out she'll even call out like some liberal suffer some democrat stuff and like. I watched one of her podcasts. At her like kind of be. Like hell yeah. I'm socialist in this way but also like get it together. Democrats that is truly what like a woke mind. Looks like and i. Love is like really intelligent inspiring from a philosophical point of view. And if you really care about what's going on you got to Because i am. I was raised very liberal borderline socialist parents. But you have to Since we're so divided. I feel like try and imagine someone's like even a fiscally conservative person. I just try and understand where they're coming from. Otherwise you're deciding you can't get along with half the country you know and like right. It's kind of a grim stance to take. And so i think she's really good at like seeing even when she says get it together. Democrats or whatever she's saying that on behalf of other people that are listening. Yeah and it's needed. I c comments. That are like this is so refreshing. Because i feel like it's been it. We all feel like we can't say anything against party and then it's like someone says it and it's like okay but she says it in such a good way. Yeah yeah i my my dad's very liberal He golfs with its trumpy guy and he says sweet guy. I like him. But he's a you know an ex cop and missile and they just golfed together. But i know that he is a conservative person. And my dad. He's really good at like having just discussions where it's like. Well you think that. And i feel i. Have you ever thought of it this way like they have pretty calm. They're also just like let's change the subject and golf he. I think he'd probably just doesn't usually talk politics with a but meanwhile i'm canceling people on instagram. That even leave a comment all lives matter. Whatever all get them get out of my life. Yeah that's how. I've been commenting that on on your every once in a while. If something shared some weirdo gets on there someone that it doesn't follow you know. Do some hate speech. And i'll cut them out just block. He's wondering people. So that's do you curate your own like so you're not afraid to take people off your social media from now they stay away because it's like it's mostly supportive nice. Podcast people in southern like well. I'm going to be the one person out of forty to be a dick. Let's leave it alone. Yeah yeah yeah well. This wonderful man has given us a lot of times. You have given a lot of time. Oh yeah we love you. We want you to thank you thank you. We want you to love you do you really though i just say it all the time. Say yeah i. I've been talking about it on stage by these guys skate with one of them's always i love you man and i'm always like i always put ice in there and i'm like i love you too. Wow that sounds era. Just skate with this guy. But he's thing is to say. I love you man. Now i to say thanks. That's i think. That's oh yeah you to a you you too man. I think the way. Yeah i care about you. I don't know if we love each other i actually. I do care about demo- if i said that to him though. He might be bummed. Now so i just kind of go. I can't hear next to try to dive down a man arms. You love me. Traffic dive and traffic. It's maybe that's what i do and relationships but yeah thank you for your time and tell us where people can see you or they can follow you any specials you have online yeah especially called rescue. Cactus got album called the rescue. Cactus album coming out on the third of august and it is pretty much the other show. I recorded that. Not just the audio and a lot of forgot about how much we didn't put in special but yet ten twenty percent is will be memorable from the special but it's it's a nice accompaniment and i think more people will see it because it's kind of hard when you're buried in instagram anyway Rescue characters album's coming out on eight hundred pound gorilla on the third of august in on instagram. Chris underscore fairbanks twitter. Chris fairbanks also. Chris brings dot com. I'm working on a website. That'd be really fun to have a new website. Don't go it now. I won't be done yet. I don't think he'd want to be around me. But i still love him. I learned a long time ago. That you if you have to learn to separate you have to be able to like comic. That maybe isn't friendly or that you need and because if you base it on them being nice but there's a lot of nice comics out there that aren't funny at the same time you know it's it's you have to learn separate him otherwise you'd end up you know people are always asking me like how is this person. I just one answer. Because i want you to like that right. I like the comic. I just don't wanna be around them right. There was a lot of happening when i first moved here. I feel because i'm not a comic. I feel a little nervous around comedians for the first time especially ones that i've seen their work work and i really love their work but then i meet them in my goal. I've just set this goal is like i'm just going to be nice as i can get everything they need. Just be like easy. Just want this to be easy honoration for them. Yeah don't talk to him too much. Maybe they got they want get their head. they want. think about things because otherwise. I think i've had moments where i'm like. I don't wanna meet this person. 'cause i kinda put him on a pedestal right. And you don't wanna do that. Don't care heroes your heroes just a comic down the street like meet him fucking ruins you other times. It's always fun to be surprised and have them be. Yeah the sweetest person ever like at sarah silverman or something where it's like. "I carry brass knuckles and number spray. And i have a police baton. I've i have anger in me. But i would never use them. It's just nice to have. That skater kid. That never never grew up. Well yeah or win that it does go back to that because now let such a sweet peaceful town but when i in the early nineties in highschool everyone just drove around on weekends and look for fights dudes and trucks wearing batting gloves would just kind of pick us out because we we're skateboarding and and start hitting us as doesn't happen much anymore but there there was a time where it's like. Oh i'm gonna get beat up probably tonight. It was weird. That's weird. yeah pick up trucks. That had rifles in the back home was going to use them therefore hunting. Yeah yeah it was. But i go there now. That's none of that. It's still like that. We're yeah yeah you can still find it. I'd maybe putting myself in those positions just if you're out with your friends driving around two. Am nothing wholesome is about to come here. I remember when i got picked up for drag racing. And i went to the judge to go in front of a judge right and he goes. Nothing good happens after midnight is words. Were like lick loomed didn't in the chambers like nothing good happens after mid jesus. I've thought about it my whole life. I'm like i've got some good things happen after midnight. Yeah but after a win. Am i supposed to let it all hang out. Yeah let all little. Eric clapton louis. We'll be back with some classics and something from cream. I the traffic your podcast partner karen. Yeah he'll graph. Carol gareth karen karen. She has a very popular podcast. My favorite murder in kind of changed the popularity of do you need ride. Yeah for way for the better. And she's made it to the big leagues. I'm so oh yes. Respect for is yeah. She is a podcast tycoon and when i met her i was just like someone said. Have you heard of podcasts. And she's like yeah. I think i'm like someone said you. And i should do one because her ex husband used to be a camera guy on this show i worked on. We just randomly made plans to podcast together long ago before by favorite murder. Oh yeah yeah matt. Georgia was just a friend of hers was a guest on our podcast and while we drove around. They started talking about true crime and decided longer on her episode of. Do you need ride that. They would and follow-up meet ups. And i watched it happen to whereas and that blew up and like well i think karen maybe i get too busy but it never happened it just sort of aided our podcast along net because now those murdering show up and they're the best people that i don't think would have started coming to my stand up shows. I know they wouldn't and that's always really cool. Mostly women that listen to the podcast at work and they're great. It's really locked out so cool. That's awesome yeah. It's been great. So yeah thank you care. I think are all the time. Thanks for changing my life friend. She's the one that i think. She is on my favorite murder. She's really really funny one of them. That's very rare. Just like all go off on some weird tangent. And i'm like i don't even know where i'm going with this and she'll bail me out. Just good good conversationalist. She knows how to turn it away. From obscurity or weirdness that i'm going down or just jump on board sally with me. We've had really ridiculous episodes where we're just singing songs. And then more serious ones it. Both our moms had alzheimer's around the same time. At first we were going to do. Maybe a podcast about that. Which would have been a whole different. We still would have been funny talking about that. But i'm glad we took more lighthearted. It was her idea to be. Let's pick up comics and drive into to the airports perfect. Yeah i'm nasty. Like i'll let you ask jerry seinfeld stole it and then i did a little research and he was doing it before us on something called crackle meetings and cars getting coffee around like a year before ours. I didn't know that and we are yeah. We don't judgy. And pretend i i love him. Dude i he's one of my heroes but then i watched his that show and it's like oh he's got a chip on his shoulder and he's kind of grumpy like a little bit. They'll be driving. Around steve martin. Or or eddie murphy or someone that you'd think oh they're going to be around me and they're like the light hearted fun sure like seinfeld. Let's take a moment to realize how lucky where it adds the show given to you. I i agree with it. I love him. But i love him. Right just pull it back a bit by eleven to buy the martin watch. I'm like i don't think he'd like me now and everyone who made him no. He wouldn't like anybody any of it. He doesn't like to shake hands that whole. I don't do that. yeah. I don't wanna say hi one say high and also i think larry david's like when i was doing this mtv seventies reality show thing and i was driving with one of the producers of it this kid that had like old vintage land. Cruiser range rover something. It was like from six days and had a lot of exhaust. and we. we're at a light in beverly hills and we heard this voice and he's just kidding. No car kidding. No car. Look at that smoke. It's pollution. Like what just. Larry david in preists from the tv. Show my car look at the pollution. It's everywhere that smoke. No one wants. It didn't know carney drove off. "If you're hesitant on a motorcycle in los angeles it was an is on. The back is holding flowers. I couldn't even hold onto where we were bringing someone flowers it was. I showed up just drenched in sweat terrified. I don't know if that's the story. I told her it is. You also said that she told you. Don't fucking move or you're never you're never gonna you're never gonna run on the back of my bike again. Yeah yeah she yelled at you. Oh gosh she's serious and then when you're driving. I'm like oh she doesn't know what she's doing either okay. That's a lot of pressure knowing that if we rack it will because of the decisions. I see her making boy. It was really scary. Yeah yeah. I'd much rather drive a motorcycle than beyond the back because oh many racks here. I've seen so many people because in los angeles you can do whatever you want on. We've around wires and you're supposed to just apparently if you have iraq with a motorcycle just rest assured knowing it will be their fault and so that's yeah if you kill some guy in a motorcycle just rescues as they knowing at night when you see that tuft of hair still on your bumper. That it was their fault. And you you don't need to ruin your life being sad about the guy that you killed. I don't know i just so. I've seen so many motorcycles with by me and be like aggressive that guy's gonna crash and sure enough it's happened. Seven eight just a guy in the road. And i'm like that guy is dead and you're just keep driving driving drunk motorcycle being aggressive like you can't fuck up on a motorcycle. There's no there's no there's no it's not. I've heard this so many times for motorcycle people. It's not if you rack. It's a matter of when and i'm like that although anymore and listen i've already been hit twice right. I think it twice. Yeah it doesn't mean you're going to die about it at some point. You're going to have a mistake. I was sitting at a stoplight waiting sitting upright on a motorcycle sitting waiting doing nothing but that with my brake lights on and then a suv just drove. Threw me just like drove right through me from behind. I didn't see a common all the next thing. I was just in the air and then i hit the ground and i had only hear the stuff is always like when mothers like pick up cars and yeah it's so much fucking like angry monkey rage like i just like ran over. Picked my bike up which is like five hundred pounds. Yeah yeah it picked it up and carried it off. The road was like next level. And i was like. Luckily the dude pulled over dude. I didn't even see you like. Did you see the red light talk. And so i was fine in the end. Obviously still here. If he said dude. I didn't see a bro. i'm like. Oh god say boss or chief. Yeah i i didn't see in the road chief bro god i hate haas so much i it boss only they boss and i don't i don't alright right especially especially i hate it when you're in a place like you're going through the drive thru taco bell. Yeah yeah here you go boss you wanna how shut the fuck up near boston. Called me boston. Yeah yeah it seems kinda like how are you making me feel bad but don't make meal at you. Make me wanna fire you if i am your boss. You're talking yeah vacation preview. Yeah sorry we actually pandemic change your whole life to be incorporated taco bell just to come back. You're fired. I'm your boss. Yeah yeah yes. I love when a joke comes together. I had to go jump through a lot of hoops to make that happen here. Fire ten years now. I have to quit and ceo at taco bell. It probably does just take a few years had a taco bell. You wanted to ask ask about whatever accent or something. It's important to just not yet accent bag known could get offend vows like we all know where that person from keeping coming i will i'll i'm from iceland slash terminated. I appreciate that accent. I'm very interested in your your podcast. A podcast very good. Aw drive you do it with karen terrorists. I don't know how to and see my friends. Very cool yeah. I was looking. We'll talk about your podcast. But it's really funny. Because i was looking at all your episodes and you guys have the same pattern as us where you seem to have had guests on and then read around february tenth. It's like you and care. And you and karen you looking and that's exactly like are to where we didn't know what to podcast or not with gas and then it was like yeah. I saw that this week. It seemed like a week or two ago. You were back until. I have a guest but that is funny because i it was just like you guys you guys and soon we'll we'll be back to having gas in the car and one thing. I don't think we'll go back to go into the airport because things have changed so much at lax. It really affects the podcast enjoyable. 'cause i'm like i fucking hate this place. It's so hard to pick someone up in time with the recording. Can you explain what what is the pocket and how does it roll. Yeah we used to. I mean it's called the union ride. We'd pick up comedians or drop them off at at lax. And now we're like okay. Let's just do burbank. It's like you know what let's just pick them up at their house and drive around the neighborhood as long as we're recording in a car doesn't matter where our destination is. I think that what.

"Of course i do. But i just don't get it. You have to figure out you've ahead of time what you would be addicted to curb it right there. I will never try on an oculus. Rift did one in. I saw the potential longtime ago dunkin. Trestle he's a great comic. I like to be around that. I haven't seen in years. Didn't mention before so. Yeah yeah yeah. It doesn't matter should've mentioned dunkin before. Didn't there's event while he's not someone i started with that. Those people are going to be offended. But and i know you're not dead But anyway he he put one on my head and it was just being in a room. And like whoa. There's you know you walk around the room and you can look under the plant and stuff and is like this is too. I'm just in an empty room and this is blowing. My yeah can't imagine fighting fucking in that scenario it would be too. I did a did a vr experience in japan and it was like next level where you actually go. You get an elevator in this office building. It takes you the seventh floor. You get off and it's like they're like nine different experiences. Yeah and they were like like in one of them. You've got onto a swing and they pushed you out over a whole and it felt like you were dangling. Hang-gliding you so you're holding on this thing and it's like okay. This is kind of fucking with me. It's one thing stand in a room and look around like cool. You created this room dragons in it or something but that was like weird. I was like ooh the next level of sex on vr. When you hook up a you know whatever it is a suck you three thousand and it's like you watch it was like why would you leave. You leave yeah. It'd be easy to stay in the house for as long as you have this. Yeah i always want the real thing with one in two thousand and they missed a lot but now the three thousand dollars thousand dollars last the just airtight Early ones. It's like usb real this but yeah that's not three thousand ska- home get out of here. Yeah you don't even need to wear pants anymore. Just stay on book callers for podcast and we had a guy that called in. That had more than sixty flashlights. And he didn't take care of them and he had wanted that. Were like stuck together late. Horder good this guy is disgusting. I'll give an hoarders. He got kovin and he was in the hospital and his girlfriend didn't know that he had all these all these flashlights so he paid a friend to go fly 'cause he thought he was going to die and then he paid friend to go in his house and like clean out all the flashlights and hide them and then he ended up living abroad girlfriend. That just number one tax with me. She pile of reason stuck together. Home one flesh and he he had sixty and they were like the janine into anyone listening right now if you have one just clean it out because that just discussed. Psa god. i had a friend that got. He had tickets and he had to do community service and he went to malibu. He was just matter-of-factly. Telling me this story but he didn't. He had to go to malibu and spackle shut. Glory holes in the shot there. Some guy they're just pointing them out like some guy that was the executor of his service. Why why yeah. There's one over here. How do you know where glory holes are like. Hold on if you go down this hallway and then down the stairs okay. He didn't have a glory hole app. This guy had stuck his dick and all these holes memory. Yeah and i just thought that was so funny. it's like some guy merge one over here to get shutting them. No one's allowed to sin as much as i have this year. Let's shut these holes. You told me a really funny story. And i was hoping that you would tell it again to merrill which is when you were in san diego after the show i was like. Hey do you wanna ride back to the hotel because you uber d- and i was like i can give you ride but there is one caveat which is that. I'm on a vespa and your vespa is fast. I would almost call it a motorcycle. It is mosaic. Goes the speed limit. You need to go on a freeway. Which i didn't anticipate and i haven't been the passenger and you were just like gabby sure not to lean or lean with me. I don't know which we took off like. Fuck i figure it out. I'm like don't be rigid lane with them. Don't lean with him. I don't know you have to stay loose. I didn't realize how much responsibility was being on the all. Also i mean. I did kind of like i did if i told you more. You wouldn't have done it right because i had said. Hey do you want. I have a best. Buy like sure. I'm sure in your mind. You're let's take the side streets. It's going to be real close. It's going to be slow. Yeah fine but like we went from zero to get to know each other real quick because you straddle the person in front of you. Then you're holding on for dear life then hold you hold their kind of well. This handles on the summit. Ever tell anyone. Because i've ridden motorcycles i part of me wanted to pretend like i was riding with you. Just lean with you a little bit but not too much to where like through. You are but you're like just stay. I just stay the fuck still right right but then you told me this great story about how you used to ride motorcycles on somebody else's motorcycle and you can tell the story. I'm not gonna to story but you told me that. Used to ride with pignataro. Oh yeah yeah yeah. That was the other. There's only been two times where i wrote on the back of motorcycle and one time it was on the back of pigs and it was so scary because she was doing this thing. Where you know when you're coming up to a streetlight and someone wants to turn left. And they're waiting You know the oncoming she would like slow down and so they would think she was slowing down for them to turn and they would try and get in front of us because she wasn't going for right..

"Some point mine was right pita seismic they would. i was gonna say bread bowl filled with chile. Oh i'm sorry. I love that i love. I was going to say as an artist. As i think i may have lost my sexual people find out. You're an artist or go like. Oh i'm an artist to let me show you my work and so i said you said to me like oh actually draw a little bit and i was like okay here. We go go mr fairbanks and then you pull out your phone and you shall be some. I'll fuck the actually really good good. Thanks all the good. Did you do some stuff for like magazines or companies or some graphics. I used to have a comment and thrasher and did some skateboards stuff and i. I always worked in teacher chops doing he shirt designs. Even while is doing comedy. That was kind of my an awesome job. Murals painting windows. I did a lot art in austin when i lived there. There's how long were you. There stopped walls. they're ninety nine two. Oh three oh nice. That's where i yeah got started with everything. I feel like austin in montana. Now are the two places that a lot of california friends moved to really. Yeah yeah idaho. People went back to austin. Yeah the whole comedy scene. There is like why did the entire comedy store move here. We can't get on our own shows. Now it's hysterical. The joe rogan on all our shows funny. Yeah but in the meantime oblate. The comedy store here is now being booked by a woman that likes comedy. Oh that's great. Yeah so. Maybe i'll start going there. I've always told myself. Let's hard to park there but they give me spots and it makes me feel like you haven't been doing comedy when makes you feel like a kid again like very popular here. Why would i go to that place. Do they give you the spot now. Or they're going to. I don't know yeah. We all just started with the key. I mean not. A lot of shows are going on i. I've done the improv. I've always kind of hung out at the improv. And i've done a few sets there. I did like your show outdoor. I've done like three improv. Sets over the months since then and then all of a sudden was in a club. Doing five headlining shows and it was a boy i got. I was rescued but by the end of it is like oh i i'm back. Okay i got i got. I got a book more shows but it's still not quite happening yet. I think shows just coming up. Yeah right as we speak. I think the midwest seems to be popping a little bit younger right now. Sure sure to live on the west coast anywhere where they were first to. Maybe take their masks off or not. If this thing is happening you can do. Some comedy concerts those people. I wasn't in a hurry. There were shows being offered up. I don't know if i want to perform for people that are don't wanna wear masks. Because they have no compassion for others probably means. They won't laugh at my jokes. I like stifling scared people. You're in the right like all my fans showed up like this is the first time i've been anywhere and i'm horrified. I'm like me too. I'm so glad that you're the person i attract mass. Who who are some of your favorite comics that you came up with that. You're just so have so much fun riffing with or doing shows with. Yeah there's a. I mean there's a lot of austin comics that man they've all everyone's kind of moved on related question but yeah i i not in comedy anymore a lot of. Yeah yeah. i'm like an old guy in comedy now. And when i started i was younger than everyone. So it's been long that while everyone's just dead. They moved on to another her. Go tori or to the cloud heaven and some of them hell but depending on their material that you not based on that note is too many dick jokes you go down to. The pits ferry religious. I'm very religious just kick. Yeah matt bearden is a guy started with. I always see him in austin. It's always fun to hang out with them my friend. Michelle balloon martha kelly. I started with them and we. Yeah i have a special friendship with them. But yeah that when. Someone's like who's your favorite comic. And i just think of comics that i worked with on the road that maybe people don't know like robert hawkins or something. He was like the funniest dude i had ever worked with. And i don't know where he's in the south somewhere doing corporate gigs. I oh no. I know but there's a lot who's your favorite comic. They always want you to say an actor. They want you to say chris rock or something. Now david l. and robert hawkins and david tim northerner but you know like sure. No one would know who these guys are. Because they're just road. I hate on ask a question. And then some the person says yeah everybody else. That same stupid question of a bitch. Like it is a common question basic pitch. Yeah you are. You're you're you just showed my colors. Yeah i'm really. I mentor your feelings. Your feelings when you jumped on my joke that yeah. I like to hurt people feel better. I still feel bad about that. You're like oh. I saw that tweet. And i'm like yeah ruin my joke it out of my house. I'm sorry i haven't been around people for a while you guys. I'm lashing out. No i think. I'm also. This is what makes it in some ways. I think good for los angeles. Because i also like didn't even hurt my feelings one percent and instead i'm just like tonight. So i want like lobster. Bisque cloud i. It doesn't hurt my feelings. You said like you're a stupid cyclops girl. That wouldn't hurt my gi set. Now you'd have to have one. I of first of all in the center of your thinking about the blind dog okay. I'm always thinking about that dog into little pockets. Rise sky sky dog. Maybe dale sky with just means. I should get my own. I almost got a pet dog. Pokes is out. Yeah yeah. I like dogs my heart is. He'll be a little different. Because you'll miss the first four years of being able to see but Let's about daddy here will call me daddy. Daddy no god no. Nothing's what were even in porn or something theme as like. Oh the whole oh daddy old. Poppy get out. Yeah i like coming here sonny boy. That's what i'm into what you're saying. Stepsister yeah yeah. I just told though that i've got into vr pornography. But i don't have like an oculus. I just keep watching the like the weird screen. Yeah yeah yeah yeah no. I don't wanna get. I don't there's a lot of things i don't do because i know i'd like it. Yeah do i wanna oculus rift now. I of course. I do. But i'm not gonna get one do i wanna whole cheesecake to myself..

"Get my ideas down. Who thank you are. Part fades in the morning and the rates from six. Thirty eight thirty i. It's hard to to not hard making excuses for myself but like i it is hard. Yeah and i put other things. I like other types of work or in my mind. And like but i have money. I'd have to do this and then a whole week will go by. And i won't have written more fun. Yeah even after this weekend in portland went well. But i felt i felt myself falling back on my old material of course because anything i've come up with and last year was kind of quarantine cova based and i realized quickly people don't necessarily want to hear about. I did have some stuff about the past year. But i didn't say any buzzwords yeah they wanna they wanna relate but they also are ready to move on yeah or viral. Let's not use that where i mean. Viral chose zoom shows. No one wants to be reminded of that shit. God what's the worst shows. Oh yeah yeah. That's the only new material i had was from doing. Zoom chosen but after. Yeah after the shows my weekend in portland night. I was like okay i to sit down now. That shows fresh in my ad and just link some things together. This idea goes here and you know it's kind of like right and it's on the band. It's like this riff. Let's use it in that song in your drum thing that you thought of. I do that with my own. Stand up and i i. It's only while onstage performing figure it out. I think that's really interesting because of how free form and relaxed comfortable. You look. I mean in all the times that i've had we've had you three times. I've had you three times down there. And it's like every single time just feels like i dunno it just. Oh that's funny. no. I'm a mess. Yeah at the end of that is drenched with sweat. And it wasn't from working out. It was like being scared. You know you never know. And i watched the whole i. This is my first time seeing you and everyone else at the table and it's almost such a good way. People were like it's like magical. How does he do this. And that set specifically felt like stand up did when i started which was just have some ideas and keep talking and being funny. You're my defense mechanism has always been to default to that. I'm in trouble. Or i wanna make friends or someone just died no matter what. Be funny in that moment. That's all. I know how to do. But but yeah yeah. I felt like a kid again. Sorry keep tinkering. And that's why that show was so fun it's like man. I felt twenty four again. It was the way that you talked after the show to. And this has nothing to do with the show itself but like the way that you were acting like that felt great again and it was awesome to see especially after the year that we just had. It was awesome to see a comic excited about the moment. That just happens like oh. This is why we do this show. This is why comics do that show. It's like it's just so exciting. Yeah i'm glad that feeling was there. Because i left with that feeling like i've done this twenty years now in the last few years has been the most fun. It's great because i'm just getting to wear a might okay. I'm not going to eat it in the crowd. Just doesn't want to be a standup or some circumstance. Like that. i think. I usually do okay now and so that in then you can have more fun knowing that but for years i struggled with a crowd hates me. Maybe i should quit. And god is always on the verge of not like. I've had writing jobs on shows where i just didn't do stand up for a couple of years and it was always felt good to go back to it like having it taken away has always made me realize how much i actually like live performing. Because i have a lot of friends that i started with and their goal always was to turn stand up into some kind of writing job. And that's great. But i think i've already established not the strongest lake writer. Like you have an assignment today. It's just oh we're in school now. Shit i like. I like riding on stage but you are doing other stuff other than just stand up because the last time i talked to you would just done a spot for cone and you've done that a couple times not only. Have you been on a standup. But you're also doing these characters acting. I like acting like i've done some commercials and stuff and i did this series. I just got some clips. today. I'll show you guys after is pretty happy with it. I'm like maybe. I should have been an actor. I i enjoy that a lot. And i just never pursued. It seems like a weird thing to decide. I'm an actor. And i've always been. I've i hide it kind of like my golfing now. I'm like golf every other day. But i don't wanna talk about it. I don't want to hear about golf and no one wants to hear. You're an actor that you like acting. I think people hold it against you in this. What is it about. You is that. Because i feel like i have that in me to which can be good at lots of things and i don't want to brag about it or talk about it so i keep it to myself. I'm only doing disservice to myself and the craft creating but like i don't post a lot. I'm not sharing a lot of work. What does it do you think about you. That doesn't want to share you trying to get better about it and share more stuff and get more committed do things and i think that I've always had my foot in different art doors. Like because i'm kind of scared to fail it committing to one big thing but gradually i just realized like oh. I'm doing stand up for living now. That the podcast is doing well and pillar coming to my show. okay. I'm in this position. Now i gotta get good at this young. I've accidentally had twenty years of experience from being on the verge of committing sim wild. You've been doing this twenty years. Yeah does does because you probably didn't set out. I'm going to do this the rest of my life. You probably like. I'm going to try this. Yeah and that's when i made jokes about like. Oh if you get married ruins your career. I don't really believe that. But i do believe that. Had i gotten married right after college or something. I probably wouldn't be doing stand up right now. i'd be in real estate. I probably be making decent money doing some kind of illustration children's books. Like if i committed the amount of time i have to stand up with because the art world has always been on the side and i fall back on it here and there. I thought i'd be doing more of it during quarantine. I was surprised how good you are because most people are like. Oh yeah i draw too. It's like oh boy here. We go especially when i used to draw live in a setting like when i was at seaworld characters. That's scary. it is scary. But it's like stand up but different but similar if i can say that but like people telling you suck right to your face and you're like wow. That really hurts me. I'm myself out here. But what was i gonna say. Have someone like crumple up. The paper in front of the insult i ever had was the best insult. Which was the guy got. He and his girlfriend drawn. This is a new jersey new jersey. Just a different crowd and he gets on and off. You want to buy a frame now. No thank you. They get the drawing. They walk away. And i was like. I said that the was working with them. I don't think they like that. And i really guy turns around. He's probably thirty feet away. He looks back at me pulls the drawing out of the bag rips it in half throws in the trash can the whole time making i contact with me then just turns around and walks away. I was like oh okay. Sounds like a murderer around your neighborhood. Said i wish you just said like i don't like it. I'm not paying for. It would have been well. That sucks but instead. He gave me his money. He said fuck you. And i was like wow so that you know. I'm sure i bought a sandwich and it was like well that bought this sale can't even join a sandwich. Yeah it's so weird. It's so weird. You probably doesn't sandwiches but he just cuts it in half and then eat that..

"Yes i know there's a little. They're wearing the same ads. You right now. I'm that kidnapper and then kill you. Both what weird. Podcasts turned positive. They just find it. Never uploaded out. It's actually a pretty fun episode up until the horrible murder in his own house. The slow sign of bones. Yeah you should. They done a little more research. Gone my wikipedia page also drinking right now on your own mug. That's yeah i do that on purpose. All the time super cool. Yeah okay. I haven't i love hearing about creative people's how you get your work done and you're writing done and i'm a new little burgeoning stand up and you know i tried to write and i've always like i really want to learn and have some advice like are you rigid about your writing our no okay and i've always had an idea and then i work it out on stage. That's why field during this whole quarantine. I haven't been prepared to do an hour because it's like well. I got my old material but anything new is unfinished. Because i write on stage do yeah. Yeah yeah i. Yeah i write like ideas and then i'm like okay figure that out and maybe a possible punchline but it's been since i started where i'll pull out old notebooks and there are things written verbatim but it's never was something that worked great. It's just how i had it there but that'd be feel would be better comic more successful happier if i did sit around and try and write every day i mean that's what do you know people that are rigid. I wake up at six. Am and there's from. England always said that you know like louis. Ck or seinfeld or an entire list of people that none of us want to be on alone in a room with you know so. I think it's important. You wanna meet a comic. That's nice normal. Make sure they don't write every day. What are those guys are like sociopaths..

"That's what she wanted but through her town again and try to get billboards right in front of her house. And be like you're right. That is the kind of thing it's like. I'm in town. But not i wouldn't reach out and be like hey remember me right. Yeah you didn't like me. And i'm wondering why billboard like her your name yeah either. I make these billboards. Or i get arrested on her front lawn. Which will be. I'll pay for the printing of get the billboards made. Yeah i'm not gonna go hold though. It's so hard to find a boombox to hold over your head. No you can bring up shuffled. I just hold. Yeah i bring this thing. That's real to reel of my dad's radio and play that. do you have an outlet. My dad's soothing voice from the sixty s a one hundred foot extension cord. Yeah yeah oh. Shut the window. Looks like i say hi to. Your dog got him. Is that doc really. Yeah a blind dog. She found this dog that was born without eyeballs. So it didn't know it was blind. You bring a dog park and it's just getting in other dogs faces not that they were three times that size so these other dogs would look at the blind dog and then they're like what the hell but the balls on this dog and then they'd smell the dog's face and i swear dogs could tell there was no eyeballs under those eyelids because it was just a wall of pink flat like it was just really amazing that the so the dog never could see so didn't know she was blind. You know so it was really you bring the dog into a room and she just kind of Appraised the ground floor model and go to every corner find out where the couch was and then just start running around and showing off that she memorized. The room really cool. yeah mad. Dog was so amazing i was. I was really into that dog much as mad at this girl. I had to say that bless her heart for do i mean even when corn i felt so selfish. She's like stay indoors. It was like when they first visiting here and she's like well. Let's go donate food and go to some soup kitchen. I found one. We got d- volunteer. And i'm like we showed up and they had no masks like it was before everyone was mayor masks and she's in like they should be wearing masks and i'm like i don't wanna be here. I get sick and she's like well. I'm a nurse. I know i take the that threat every day. I take that risk. I mean and so she was willing and is two sides now. It's all about me staying healthy. You know there's something kind smart down. Yeah yeah. I never got cova during this time. And how fucking selfish ame- homeless people. I used to give money in my neighborhood. I'm like don't even fucking look. I'm just getting some groceries. I'm going to go wipe them down. I'm not making i contact. You had to be really selfish to and alone like other people are getting them for through loving their families. Not me man band. Get the fuck outta my way. Well now it's over and developed a weird pattern is that we are now to get back into like social. It just went to portland. And that i show. Would they said it would be partial capacity and it was a full room and the first night was all sold out. I was really nervous wearing a mask and the green room and by the end of the week. I'm just going out and taking pictures. Audience hugging now people lead. Yeah yeah i was like hey pictures so but yeah i feel great so super cool yeah vaccinated. Yeah skinny yeah. Of course got the axe. It's i feel like in san diego. There's more sane people that just don't didn't wanna get it but it seems like the more often the people that are most afraid to get vaccinated because they think it messes with your dna. They always have the least okay gene. Good let me at least before you say to your material but it is it is yeah it is true it is true it is always. That's like why are you worried. They have one anchor tooth. It's like no one's after your genes. Yeah but the. I'm like i'm totally healthy. I got gotta possibly poisoned myself. Yeah go ahead and chipped me. Remember when you see. Those videos holden magnets. I'm like that's not bad. What have i lost in the forest. They can find me great. Give me their chip. I'm like i've kicked cat linked in post my friend. Yeah he chipped his cat and he has like a little kitty door on their rv. The cat can't leave after nine as a real. And i'm like wow now they have a kid and i'm like i wonder if they're going to do because it's pretty nice to know where your kid is an all time. When i was a kid man we just wrote. I'd be on my bike for three days and they didn't worry do you. Yes same yeah. I remember yeah. I would ride my bike in the middle of the country. Because i was from ohio right. Yeah yeah and it's like you're out in the middle of nowhere and nobody knows where you're at and it's like oh get home when i get home and it was never a problem right away back after dark and it's like did you have a good day now. It's like where the fuck are you right now off the map watching where you're at. Well i kind of get it now. I think we finally got to the bottom of white kids got kidnapped. Allot in white. Man's happening less and less staying here play player games. Don't go outside fewer. Don't use like when we were kids. It was like getting kidnapped with seemed like a really big problem but like i was in a small town. Nobody's kidnapping anybody from that town. "fairbanks" Discussed on Campfire Sht Show

"I didn't realize this was wrong but growing up. It felt like my family eight and then drank. So it was like there'd be a glass of water or milk always milk and you would eat your whole meal and then pump wash it down with you wouldn't drink inbetween bites and then i got older and i was like. Oh it's really healthy to do it that way. Not the way that. I was raised on right. Aren't you supposed to not drink while you're eating. No you're supposed to you're supposed to compartmentalize. Always you're supposed to like not have any liquids while i guess they weren't doing it for. Were drinking diet coke or cranberry or whatever like vodka. We're not drinking this after for health. How come you didn't you just didn't have your parents prepare. Soviet wasn't financial thing. I don't know. I should take it up with a just not a lot of excitement about making food for everyone kind of offended for yourself so there's a lot of frozen foods that i would just think age whereas like you fend for yourself. Both your parents work. Yeah yeah yeah. So it's like you get home and you have like pizza rolls or some bullshit right worst. Yeah eating gnarliest. we'll do. We grew up at the coolest time as far as like cartoons and activities. Everything was like extremely you like skateboarding. Where you're going to love. these cheetos was. It was such a vivid memory is just that moment. That couple hours between school in my parents coming home. You're eating a frozen burrito duck. Tales is on and yeah. You're just kind of it's your own apartment house it's and then parents come home and there's the mash theme song and you kinda get bombed out and it's like i gotta go do homework now but that hours from three thirty to five thirty. I was like that was my time and it was for frozen burrito party baby. My mom always had baked goods. She had a lot of it was like she just knew how to lure us back. Should we were never leaving. She's like flashback. As right out of the how. How did you do that. You're not even here. You're at work and somehow they're coming out of the oven right now. Yeah if there was cookies or anything prepared or some kind of casserole. My sister and i knew it was probably for my mom's office group or severity group or something like that prepared food. it's raw. Yeah say it's because your parents were gonna tell you that they're getting divorced or something like that a casserole or that was That was just a mid day delivery of information there is no. Oh hell yeah. My dad's been married a few times. How many how many is a few only asked us because we were talking about. If you married twice you pretty safe like people get married. Doesn't work out. Actually maybe marriages affirming. Yeah third and fourth yes. Well he finally nailed it. This third time. She's great and they really like each other cuong. So yeah it's been married now. Now god no player. Command wouldn't be a comic right probably. It's probably true high. Be riding on some show or doing graphic design for living actually sounds like a nice life. May i could have had kids. You are an artist. I watch your stuff and it always surprises me. When you're you're so talented in one field. And then i'm like oh fuck. He's also a designer. Yeah 'cause you skateboard and then you do a lot of like when i had you down in san diego for the character convention you were like oh yeah draw and i'm like what was fun now is that was fun that audience As an artist it was so fun to do stand up for a bunch of illustrators because the more visual jokes they were willing to go on board with things that i just assume audiences are willing to go with me and imagine in their own heads and usually they don't work as well so the most obscure weird without acting and out that crowd got it. I think that's because those. When i first met those people it was like. Oh my people because they have those what i call a cartoon brain or you don't really have to describe much or show much. It's like everyone's already there. Yeah and their mind. The cameras already panting over to the the weird subject in the corner. Who's been awkward and they kind of finish that story with you and you're definitely that guy you're definitely got a cartoon brain. Yeah i i like. I even have jokes. That are things that would happen in a cartoon like the flag coming of my penis jazz on it and stuff like pattern just reminds me of like someone walking off a cliff and in that moment they're suspended and pull out sign that whoops isn't a parachute or something show now that of wiley coach stuff. Yes grew up loving and want go by donald me. God no. i've never been married against it. I would love to be married. I'd love to have kids but it just never. I was never even close to but it would affect your your career. Sure it'd be hard. Be on the road and do that. Yes i worry about that. Because now i'm so used to being able to go and do stand up. We want but i'm not on the road that much. I could make where i would. Yeah i would see someone in phoenix right. At the beginning and quarantined. I was like looking at rings and stuff i've been she disappeared. You know. I don't know really she's just changed your mind. Who knows. she didn't even talk to you. I could badger her until. I got a good reason but do i really need to hear no because the the already. Yeah yeah she. Yeah the answers in that action. So i was like. Wow damn. that was a surprise. well time to be alone in this apartment with these plants. Look that was a beautiful plant for a while. now it's just decided. See that's a good symbolically. That's kind of what she did. That thing was flourishing for a couple of years and then one day just got dry. And i needed to stick a broomstick in there to hold it up and now it's just brown in wrinkly anyway. That's kind of what happened with her building already. Son really. I can't blame her for welton up but now she's beautiful and Yeah i'm sure she's doing great probably married to a very wonderful man comedian. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah yeah all. That's what drives me nuts. If it's a doctor it probably is. I'm sure that i'd be like okay..

Former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder Slams Terry McAuliffe for Marginalizing Black Candidates

"Two years ago, Terry McAuliffe remember he's the bagman for the Clintons turned, McAuliffe called for all three persons occupying the offices of governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general to resign. All three Democrats. Governor Northam had been shown pictured in his school's yearbook in blackface and subsequent revelations by age Mark Herring acknowledged appearing in blackface in 1985. What is it with this black face and liberals and Democrats seriously? The media ran the story of two women accusing lieutenant governor Fairfax of sexual assault actually raped. Denied by Fairfax. But former governor McAuliffe within minutes thereafter proclaimed the accusations to be credible. I think incredible by the way Today. McAuliffe is asking people to vote for the attorney general who served as his attorney general and seeks the continuing a sport supportive Northam. No reasons have been given to the voters as to Terry's change of mind, nor has any reason being made why McCulloch felt compelled to violate Virginia's longstanding precedent. By choosing to run again against persons who had far more experience he means of the Democrat primary. Then he As he had never held elective office of any kind when he ran. All of the candidates he opposed, except one were black, including two women. Whom he felt not qualified to be given the chance that he'd been given at last report. Governor Northam is what drawn his apology for black face. Is what Northam and Herring did all right. By any standard is McCullum going to tell the voters of the credible evidence that he has relative to Fairbanks? Does this suggest? That if you're a black person in Virginia If you've got to think about who you're going to vote for it, then you ain't black. Stay tuned.

"Change top of the seventh inning. The Rays of 54 lead on the first lead change of the World Series. The Brandon allow home run and Buster the tying run a third. The go ahead, run it second. Pitching change and will Smith coming to the plate? And when the Dodgers scattered will Smith. One thing that jumped out to them was this was a player who always maintained his composure. And we've seen it throughout this postseason driven and 13 runs already. And Dan a great opportunity right here. Absolutely 2nd and 3rd 1 out What game? I mean, both managers just especially Kevin Cash, trying to do everything. He could do to put out the fire right now, and they put it out. And then the next inning, there's another fire in the next inning. There's another fire, and he's already gone through Thompson, Fairbanks, Castillo, Luke and now Nick Anderson, their best reliever during the regular season, But his Buster talked about in singing, talked about not throwing as well in the postseason. He comes in and inherits the 2nd and 3rd 1 out situation up a run. With Will Smith, the batter and Cody Bellenger on deck.

That will take you to to your Actual University of Alaska website take you to a page that they've dedicated to this and got a place right there that Jesus Click and you can download the whole report and see all the math done. You can see all the all the drawings, all the all the images that correspond with some of the stuff that we're talking about. But we're GONNA talk about here is just doing a really super light overview to get you familiar with report is who's involved with the report and what their findings were and how their findings conflict with this. "Gung. Ho to take action, right like fuck you. You don't get to take our shit down and make George Bush read. We're fucking GONNA kill you. You know more three. And so we were just. Glued to these DVD's and working, and now we're instead of patrolling in in Humvees and. SUV's were now patrolling in helicopters and Shit, and it just immediately changed. Everything about it, we were in threat con. Delta or whatever it was they didn't do defcon change it because you know. Some colors got offended and it was the beginning of the police but It. Just changed everything met literal color is not the vote. The colors the Yeah Yeah Roy G of not. All. Colors. The roaring forties but we went out there and I just remember like you know Wayne. Wayne was ten years older than I was at the time that it happened and he had. Questions in I didn't have a lot of questions because I was Kinda Dick hard to fucking. Get revenge but I remember looking at the Pentagon one going. Boy. There's no damage to the lawn. This fucking guy flew this shit into a building that it was what was the Pentagon eight six, eight stories I was not a huge tall skyscraper and there's no damage to the lawn and all the light fixtures and shit. Our pointed the other way and I said that one time. And then I, kind of forgot about it. And I like to think that like as new information comes out. misremembered things but that is the one thing that sticks to me is like. No. I don't feel that happened like that haven't as one of my favorite nine eleven memes is because basically. The seven forty, seven plane. If it was sitting on the ground with with his landing gear collapsed, sure the the tip of the the rear tail would almost be to the height of the building. So the beam is like is got the Nike swoosh. And says just believe it even if it doesn't make any sense and what it shows is that plane sitting on its injures literally on the grass in in this assize comparison to the Pentagon and you're like, wait a minute. So this thing would have to travel. Yeah. Horizontally perfectly to strike the way that it stroke str- away we're told that it that struck the Pentagon. Yeah. Directly in and to do that, it would have to fly like that, which is impossible impossible. There's the lift of the plane designed scientifically it's impossible. Like three, hundred and fifty, four, hundred miles an hour. Plane where the passengers like attacked. Three three. In the field. Okay. So at the end of that, it was it was head for. They say they say White House without Oh. Okay. All right. We'll surprise that one didn't hit. Shops But yeah. So that was kind of the long and short of that. It's Being a relatively young person with. No, wheels Jerry. Programming was. All said and I didn't go in you know raw. Stars and Stripes and I didn't come out. Ross Stars and Stripes. So I was just kind of in there. fucking. Not fucking my life up completely right? I just had general questions but. Everybody like it was a collective. Let's go you as soon as it happened, we're under attack and we watched fucking Fox News and that's what everybody watched for the next month and a half. What are they going to tell us now and it was never anything different you know it was the same. Were under attack. Let's. Make them pay so I don't know weird deal go ahead. What were you say? Oh, joy I'm sorry I double check that when we talk about Bush not reacting so much being told about, hey, it's I wish I wish we wish we knew the truth. So Andrew Card is the guy that comes in on Bush whispering to him and apparently. Okay. So Bush already knew about the first plane. So Andrew Card whispers to the second plane hit the second tower. America's under attack. That's all he was still before he said down, he's still not knew about the first plane. So that's reaction was more of a Oh shit hurry up an. Upside down or his acting schools for really good. don't let these third graders down twenty, twenty, five, hundred people die right now. So your progression from from win a happened there when guard missiles and should in the military to where you're at now, and where are you at now just for the record. I guess I left part. Oh well, it was kind of a gradual deal. My brother was He's always been kind of A. Shits all don't believe everything. You've heard a couple years older, but as I started to. Research and watch and in kind of honestly meeting you. I have ruined a lot of people's faith in humanity and. Fainting Mattie is what it is and that, and that's not going to change because. But being a person that prides themselves on on changing my opinion based on new information. I haven't found a lot of information that. I found a lot of information that changed me to the side that this shit is not what I was told, and now haven't found anything to push me back the other way. So probably around two, thousand, five, two, thousand, six. Have you watched loose change have you watched in and then I started following a group called architects and engineers for nine eleven truth and that kind was the one that kind of pushed me over the edge was like if they're scientists, physicists and engineers people that design these things, and then when you break it down and start looking at like the minutia of each building, like you said, the webbing of the building How do you take? A building down in near freefall. Well, pinky theory fuck your pancake theory like there's I'm not a physicist I'm not a scientist I know that surprises both of you do. But when I trust the people that are put in place and have done the work. That say look you don't have to say. I'm not looking to say it was so and so and so and so I'm just looking to say it wasn't like they said, it was they rushed to a conclusion. and. You. Twenty Times more was spent on. Conclusion. Yeah. But like when they say like, JFK, was assassinated they had spent fifteen million dollars or one hundred and fifty million dollars. He spent fifteen million dollars investigating nine eleven like those are things that should kind of. Make you question it and I'm not saying. What I got trigger another fun fact for me The nine eleven commission the Commission that was put together by the Bush administration to investigate nine eleven. Originally, there was not going to be an investigation that was the original decision that there was not going to be an investigation that they had it. All figured out what it was. It was because. This is important right here because one of the things you want to talk about look how dare you disrespected dead people by talking about this conspiracy and so disrespectful we'll know here's the truth There was not going to be a commission, but the survivors of the attacks people who were there at Ground Zero in the family members those who killed were the first conspiracy theorists they were the ones that raise a bunch of fucking hell sure with the Bush administration and told them no, win this investigative. We need to know what happened here. That's when that's what even triggered the investigation. When it came to funding I'm trying to think of like an example of something that was investigated recently. That explains why there was a lack of funding the hillary investigation who Benghazi Gazi I can't remember how many hundreds of millions it was. It was a substantial amount. Okay. So We all kind of know what that is and you can whatever point of view have about that that dollar figure is important because the ferry first budget that the Bush administration offered to investigate what was the? Clearly and still to this day the largest terrorist event on plan ever their largest crime ever right three million dollars. Yeah. It was the first budget chump change the nine eleven commission they assemble this that this is not enough..

Alaska's Salmon are Shrinking

"Year salmon come home to Alaska's frigid rivers to mate, lay their eggs and die. The. State Salmon runs are some of the biggest in the world but over the past few decades, those big salmon runs have featured ever smaller. Salmon. Talk to people up there has been fishing for a long time and they're definitely able to tell you that we just don't see those really large old salmon used to see Christa a post doctoral fellow at the University of Alaska Fairbanks oaken colleagues at the University of California Santa Cruz, and elsewhere analyzed records of fish size. Going back to the nineteen fifties they included data on some twelve point, five, million, salmon, each of which had. To be measured by someone from the Alaska Department of fish and game, and there's no question about it. Salmon have shrunk sockeye salmon today are two point one percent shorter than their ancestors chum salmon are two point four percent shorter and Coho or three point three percent shorter Chinook or king salmon showed the greatest declines at eight percent. That's an average difference of more than two inches in length. The study is in the journal Nature Communications. The researchers haven't nailed down the exact reasons behind this trend, but they're analysis suggests that climate change and competition with wild and hatchery raised salmon, both play a role. They also discovered that much of the change in body size is due to fish returning from the ocean at a younger age now than in the past. Oak, says fish could be returning earlier because they're reaching maturity faster for some reason or because the ocean has become a riskier place for older salmon to survive what could be happening is the That otherwise would have returned large old. Just making. Whatever the cause this size shift has massive ramifications for people and the Environment Oak and her team calculated that catching smaller fish may have already slashed the value of Alaska's Commercial Salmon Fisheries by twenty one percent. It's also likely reduced the food available to subsistence fishers, many of whom reliance stores of salmon to get them through the long harsh winter by as much as twenty six percent. On the ecological side, the researchers estimated that smaller fish sixteen percent fewer eggs, which could depress salmon populations in the future and the Salmon Bring Twenty eight percent fewer nutrients into the watersheds were they spun according to the study after they breed and die kirk actually fertilize. Freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems with these marine derived nutrients that are really important and that used by all kinds of animals like bears and songbirds even taking up into trees with no single factor to blame for shrinking salmon there's no fix says, but there are still plenty of fish in the sea they're just smaller than they used to be.

Will the Fires That Made Centralia a Ghost Town Ever Go Out?

"The smallest municipality in Pennsylvania is Centralia a former mining community located about two hours north west of Philadelphia. Records tell US had one thousand, four, hundred and thirty five residents in the year nineteen sixty. Today fewer than ten people still live there. The US Postal. Service revoked and trailer Zip Code in two thousand two and the local portion of state route sixty one was permanently closed off nine years before that. We can't blame. The areas decline on the usual socioeconomic suspects. Its problems run deeper literally since at least nineteen sixty to a coal seam fire has been smoldering right below the town. Yes, in. The Earth has been smoking. An ash has been raining down for over fifty years. No one knows exactly how the coal fire got started, but whatever set the thing off this long lived. Blaze isn't some kind of one off luke. Naturally occurring coal deposits are called seems in the mining industry, and wherever such veins occur whole seem fires like the one under Centralia may break out and commonly do. China's three thousand mile or five thousand kilometer coal mining belt is notorious for its seemed fires a so as a town in India where fires have claimed about forty one million tons of coal since nineteen eighteen. We spoke by email with a new TMA per cash, a geologist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She said the issue is more prevalent in areas. Where coal was extracted in the past with limited efforts to ensure that the whole left, the extraction was filled up. She explained that mines that don't provide structural support to keep ground from collapsing. Likewise risk seem fire outbreaks. Granted humans aren't always responsible. Though down in new, south Wales Australia, there's a famous coal seam that's been burning for six thousand years straight scientists think it was first ignited by an ancient brushfire or lightning strike. A coal doesn't need much encouragement to catch fire under the right circumstances, the material can actually light itself ablaze through spontaneous combustion. We also spoke by with research geologist Alain Coker. He explained the decomposition of Pyrite President in coal produces heat, and in some cases, the self heating can start the coal on fire. This is a problem even where coal is transported long distances and ships. By most accounts, Centralia great fire began at a dump near the local odd fellows cemetery on May, twenty seventh of nineteen, sixty two. This landfill was intentionally set ablaze was six volunteer firefighters, standing by. It was all part of a yearly cleanup effort by the local government. Controlled Burns were popular garbage disposal technique back then, but things didn't always go according to plan. Perhaps this fire ran deeper into the trash than anybody realized if so, it could have spread through the refuse and entered the nearest coal mine pit with no one being the wiser. Than again, be the town. Government had nothing to do with it. Some have argued that different garbage fire at the same site. A lit by an unidentified truck driver is what really sealed Centralia fate. Another less popular theory claims the coal seam fire started all the way back in the Great Depression and went unextinguished for decades before the nineteen sixties gave it a new lease on life. Regardless. The inferno made itself right at home, sweeping through mine tunnels and coal seams, flames descended as far as three hundred feet, ninety meters below the ground, sometimes nearing temperatures of one, thousand, three hundred fifty degrees, Fahrenheit or seven hundred thirty Celsius. According to an investigation in two thousand twelve has a tway's underlying. Some four hundred acres or sixty hectares of land, had been touched by the blaze at sometime or other. Coker said uncontrolled coalfires have all the potential environmental impacts of burning coal for power generation with none of the benefits in addition to emitting carbon dioxide, trace metals, such as mercury and harmful. Fine particles are emitted. Per, cash noted that methane and sulfur dioxide are also common and so distinctive that just talking about these fires virtually floods her with memories of the sent. To this day, smoke rises from the earth through fishers around Centralia. Meanwhile, the terrain has become perilously unstable over time. Her cash said these fires are dangerous as land can suddenly collapsed or sink as the fire just eats up the ground underneath such collapses can damaged houses roads. Train tracks etc.. That's why Pennsylvania closed off four thousand feet, or about one thousand two hundred meters of route sixty one back in nineteen, ninety-three subterranean pillars held up the pavement, were destroyed or weakened by the flames, making the roadway totally unsuitable for motorists. So Wilson Trail is fire ever burn out? Extinguishing so-far haven't paid off. Between nineteen sixty to nineteen eighty-two assorted government agencies spent seven million dollars fighting. This entrails a qualifier openings sealed trenches were dug, and the minds were stuffed with non-combustible. And crushed rocks, but nothing worked. Nearly all of Centralia former residents are long gone. Many took advantage of a forty two million dollar tax payer funded relocation initiative, which saw five hundred buildings destroyed. The final holdouts have been granted permission to spend the rest of their lives in the town as per eight thousand thirteen settlement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. According to the state's Department of Environmental, protection the fire might keep on raging for over a hundred years yet to come. But as bad as they can get coal seam, buyers aren't invincible. Kosh said good policies on mining safety and reclamation go a long way as preventative measure, if a fire does start taking quick action to contain it by isolating the fire, dousing the fire, cooling the area and continued monitoring to ensure that the fire does not start again are important measures. Centralia? Hellish effect made it part of the inspiration for the two thousand six horror film silent. The departure from the video game series that it was adapted from. And over the past thirty odd years town Centralia not silent hill has become an unlikely tourist destination. One former attraction was the abandoned stretch of route sixty one dubbed the graffiti highway at attracted masses of street artists who added a rainbow of cartoons and signatures to the pavement. However in two thousand twenty, the corporation that owns the undrivable road, had covered up with piles of dirt. Dissuade visitors from swinging by during the covid nineteen pandemic.

Whale Protections Need Not Cause Lobstering Losses

"There's a lot of cash crawling on the sea floor. American lobsters, bringing more money than any other US Fisher, a record, six hundred and seventy million dollars in two, thousand, sixteen, mostly through Maine Massachusetts. The fishery relies on traditional lobster harvest techniques. A series of traps is drops to the ocean floor with a long rope attached to a floating buoy during peak fishing season. There's over nine hundred thousand vertical lines right in the middle of right whale habitat graduate student, Hannah Myers. Myers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of fisheries and ocean sciences, those vertical lines entangle and kill endangered sea turtles and multiple whale species, including the North Atlantic right whales, only about four hundred individuals remain, and recent analyses show that the species won't survive if humans kill an average of one whale each year, some estimates indicate that lobster in gear kills more than three whales each year on average management problems. Problems surrounding the north? Atlantic right whale and entanglements are pretty significant and have been really challenging to move forward, and a large part of that is due to expected negative economic impact in the lobster fishery, but right we'll protections don't have to mean lobster losses, Canada's lobster harvest operates with fewer traps and a shorter six-month-long season. The US lobster fishery in Maine expense, approximately seven and a half times as much as. As, the Canadian fishery to catch the same amount, and Canadians are catching almost four times more lobster protract. They're putting less effort into it and spending less on fuel and equipment, but they're still gathering nearly the same amount of lobster overall, and there are stateside examples in Massachusetts areas that have had a seasonal closure. In recent years have reached a record high landings. The study was published in the Journal. Marine policy. Restrictions could actually mean a healthier lobster population overall it paradoxical, but it is consistent with a lot of fisheries research that shows that when you fish with too much effort and too many traps in the water. The stock itself isn't as robust so one thing we might expected that you would either have you know more or larger lobsters if there if fewer. Fewer traps into water, coming into each trap, and therefore able to haul up more lobster trap, and that's kind of what we see on the Canadian side, taking some of those ropes out of the water could benefit both the whales and the Fisher. Our main takeaways that a negative economic impact should not be assumed with effort reduction in the US fishery.

Humans will determine fate of Greenland's ice sheet

"Greenland an island more than three times. The size of Texas is largely covered by a massive sheet of ice. It's more than a mile thick in most places but as the climate warms the Greenland. Ice Sheet is starting to melt faster than it can be replenished by wintertime. Snow Twyla Moon is a research scientist at the Colorado based national snow and Ice Data Center. Where seeing more and more consistently years of very high ice loss something really that humanity has ever seen before and the trend could continue in a recent study researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks studied. What will happen? If carbon pollution continues to increase over this century. They found that within a thousand years the entire is she would likely melt causing cease to rise between seventeen and twenty three feet but moon says the world can avoid that future the difference between following a very aggressive path of action and reducing greenhouse gas emissions bursts. What we're doing today is quite truly the difference between losing all of the Greenland ice sheet or keeping the vast majority of it. That's all just a matter of Human Action. What we do will be the primary determinant of what things look like in the future
