Well, however, you mean it. I'll take it as a compliment. How's that Zip 85 has cooled it. Zip. 85 has great food, but their meatballs are the best. They're in Palm Harbor. "Tonight. One of the storylines early on in the pandemic was the fact that restaurants and a lot of other businesses Weren't able to collect on their insurance because insurance companies were saying that the loss of business Klaus didn't cover that number of restaurants have taken the insurance company in this case society insurance to court. One of them the restaurant tours. Bill Stavro, who is here, the owner of Valley Lodge, and he joins us on the phone right now, Bill. Welcome. Thank you. I should say, Let's just start off, right? I've eaten under your tent. Very fine service. Oh, thank you. So tell me about the business and about how the pandemic has hurt your ability and in particularly the loss of insurance has affected you. Sure. So, you know clearly the industry's then then hit hard, not just us, but everybody since the pandemic began, and you know, we spend, uh, struggling along trying to keep our employees employees trying to get revenues up through a variety of measures doing all the mitigation tactics, including air purification system. Come on anything and everything we can do all while playing by the rules. That government is set forth by us and you know it's been It's been a struggle, but we're fighting through it. And as far as the insurance side of it goes, we're just going through a legal process with them, led by our legal team, and You know, clearly, we're happy that we had a ruling that was favorable and gives us an opportunity to have our day in court. The judge there was a move on the defense's part to have a summary judgment or have the case dismissed and the judge, a federal judge sitting in Chicago rejected that which opens the avenue I guess for a further trial or maybe settlement talks down the road. You. The cases were combined with the restaurants, including the billy goat and purple pig as well, we'll We'll get to that. But tell me about what it was like when you found out insurance wasn't going to cover you. Yeah, you know, honestly, Steve, it's kind of an interesting thing. So when when we filed our claim, so I, you know, I did do my my due diligence. I read my policy. I understood what I believed it to be. And you know, after we filed and got the response we way were really in the trenches of running our business at that point, and so, you know, frankly, we handed it off to the Clifford Ha firm and they've been doing the work that got us to where we are our focus. From that point forward was really about operating our business, so I don't have any. It's almost I don't even recollect exactly color felt when I got the letter because there were more pressing issues that we were dealing with on a day to day basis. Just another punch, I guess. Yeah, At that point, we were conditioned to it were you were expecting coverage, though. I mean, clearly the reason we we filed a claim is we believe that there was coverage there. We've been in business to put in perspective. You said you've been in our tent so you must know who we are. You know, we've been in This for 52 years. So we've been paying for coverage for 52 years and yeah, we are expectation Was that or we wouldn't have filed then. The ruling by the judge says the policy does not contain specific exclusion of coverage for the losses due to event virus or pandemic, And so That, you know, I don't wanna get too much in the weeds. And I know you're not a lawyer and then don't want to speak legal briefs. But society's case is a little different from others in that they don't have that specific exclusion. Now, they issued a statement saying they intend to. Ah continue to fight this so that will happen down the road. But you must be encouraged by at least the way the route has taken you so far. Absolutely. Yeah, That's definitely a great first step in what we hope to be. You know a good path for us and give us our opportunity. To speak. What we believe is the accurate truth of our business. Have you talked to other restaurant owners about this situation? Frankly, no. Um, you know, in passing, perhaps a while back, but definitely not since this ruling. And what is it that is keeping you going? I mean, I I know things were opening up a little bit more. I'm assuming business is getting better you doing okay? Yeah, we're doing okay. You know, we've been fighting through it the whole time. We've We've done a variety of things. So we've really embraced. Carry out delivery, Obviously, to the point, actually, where we started a company that does ghost in virtual kitchens that we then help other restaurants, license and so on. So that we've tried to make the best we can out of a bad situation and, frankly, you know, keep our people employed. Keep our people you know, paying their bills. We have employees that we've had on our staff for you mean greater than 30 years. I mean, we have we have probably four people on our staff were really proud to say this that have been on our staff and access to 25 years with in this industry is is something to say. I think I'll go back to the business you started. So you're helping other restaurants. Prepare food to delivery or what? Well, what are you doing there? Um, So interestingly. Yeah. So it's a business called food All I'm not here to promote it Go for it Partnered up with another kind of Notre, You know, notable local restaurant tour Fabio Viviani and that whole group and we are we've launched, you know 10 to 15 different concepts that we then license to other restaurants that are You know, frankly in need of revenue, and by doing that, we license them to them. They do it for delivery only, and you know, it's been really helpful to them to monetize what they have, which is their asset in their staff, and they've been able to keep more people employed and we've been able to put some money in their pockets, and we've done it for in our own businesses as well. That's really what it was born from. So explain that little further. I'm sorry to some kind of thick headed here, Bill, But so you're going to restaurants that might not have a delivery service and providing them a model or a menu. That is delivery ble that it correct on even if they have delivery already. This is just another revenue stream with their excess capacity. Bill Stavro is joining us Now He's the owner of Valley Lodge. I know the one in Glenview. There's one and will medicine. Well, right, That's correct. And we're talking because there was a favorable court ruling in federal court last night late last night that will allow his and others lawsuit against their insurance company to go forward. At least the Insurance had said that business lost didn't apply because of the pandemic. The judge said. There wasn't a specific exclusion there so that they can continue to go forward. I don't know if I'm stretching to look for a silver lining. But with the new business and With the renewed. I would think loyalty of your customers is their chance. You're gonna come out of there Stronger boy. It's a little early in the game to make that prediction. Quite frankly, it's gonna spend a challenging year for sure. But I hope to I hope that in the end the our business will normalize and many other endeavors. I get into our successful Um, but I, You know, I feel like there's a long way left and what we're currently dealing with claim victory quite yet. I'm sure that's true. Do you find people eager to go back inside? We have I would say that we've seen, um, a little bit of a movement in a positive direction over the last 30 days for sure, but not seismic. And you know again, we We have some level of limited capacity, so you know irrelevant of all of that. We're still fighting through that Your place has a supper club Feel as I remember to which might lend itself toward older clientele. They might be more reluctant is if you found that Little bit. I mean, there's definitely a caution that people are are definitely feeling a relevant of age group are well met location, frankly, has seen a zoo much, if not more reluctancy, and from a little bit of a younger demographic is our customer base. Is there so You know, but we've been. We're grateful People have been supportive of us in whatever way they can from, you know, doing carry out delivery coming in when they can coming in and ofttimes when they're comfortable and like yourself going, you know to our tent when the weather allowed and hopefully that's around the corner to plan self in the tent again, or what do you think that might be possible? Yeah. I mean that the weather related it. How about this afternoon? Don't give me much open. There's some hope on that Horizon. Two..

"Reasons why many of our customers like to, you know, purchase from us. Not only because we're helping farmers, but also because, um There's a saying that local running can help with allergy, really, especially from Colin. She's oh, pollen in such and so it works way better than, um, any medicine. That's on, you know, on the show. Um and we've had a lot of customers claim that it told them so rapidly and so efficiently that They stick to that honey seasonal basis. That is amazing. I honestly had no idea and I'm glad they're here, sharing that with us as well and then also to in some of the top restaurants in Chicago and the suburbs. Your and I believed you also. I'm sorry. The grocery store chains. Your product is now being carried there. Yes. So we're in all the Mariano stores. There's 44 region, the regionally here in Illinois. Then we have 171 stores of jeweler Hosko, and then we're in, Um, almost all the Michelin star restaurants in the city, including Alenia, by Grant Hackett, Um Nobu by Robert Robert DeNiro, the actor. Also dynamic group, which is Sienna Tavern, Bar, Sienna Crime and Provisions by Fabio Viviani, along with La Boca, one off hospitality, Gibson's group and many of the hotel's as well. That's really amazing. That's good to know Tuas well, for those who may be interested in looking further into this firm or information, so as far as this year, right and you're I should say last year with the pandemic hitting Has your industry been affected in any way? Most definitely been affected, especially due to the climate and the fact that many customers weren't walking into the stores. And that's where most of our product is carried or it's sold at farmers markets, which you know, of course, has been impacted because there's been a 6 FT. Distance between you know individuals and that definitely heard a lot of farmers. So we gained a lot of farmers through. Um, you know, not working with them and other farmers that needed help. And so we've helped. Quite some farmers regain their you know, livelihood by, you know, working with them and kind of taking everything every drop of honey that they had that they would have sold at a farmers market and procured it so we can sell it ahead but giving them a bigger paycheck to be able to make ends meet. No, absolutely I That is very true. And I'm glad that you're sharing that with us as well. One last question for you. Where can we follow you on social media or any website? We can check out for more information..

"Is almost 8 40. Steve Roseanne is back with us today. We missed you, Steve, because we didn't have many stories like the bacon beer story you just reported on. We love your breaking junk food news. Thank you. I have an entire file of wire services going into the junk. Second s O. I get them all every morning. Well, and what was that? It's a bacon smell beer, So it's a It's a bacon in, say, beer infused with a bacon extract A smoky bacon extract, man. Yeah, well, there's your breakfast of champions and we were just talking about this. We didn't We weren't even aware that Waffle House served beer. Um, let alone was making its own so Oh, man, And as Dave Anna just reported a Lindy McDaniel passed away. And, uh, do I have this right back in the day on the old Milwaukee Braves? Or why do I connect the Bluebird debt and Lindy McDaniel? Maybe not. Because McDaniel was with the Cardinals, right? He was with the Cardinals. He was with several teams and then the cubs, huh? I see it here. The Cubs traded Altman card will and most Thacker them the immortal most sacker Torto ST Louis, and they got They got McDaniel Larry Jackson, who is a good picture for a while and catch her but in a gym, Schaefer 1963 he came to the Cubs. I was here for the 63 season. Hey, guess what. It's started already. By the way, the big bear's bashing now on Twitter, I see, uh See Steve Rosenbloom saying Now the choices Ryan Pace, choosing the Bears next quarterback or George McCaskey and Ted Phillips, choosing the Bears next GM Here we go calm down. Going to be a long couple of weeks. Here, got the bye week and then the Packers on Sunday night right yet six games to go following the bye week, starting with the Packers and I did mention this. The glimmer of hope for the Bears is they have Houston and Jacksonville still on the schedule, Okay, but that that's also the glimmer of hope for Jacksonville in Houston. They got the Bears on the schedule. The way things are going You know what if if Hicks doesn't pull his hamstring and come out of the game, and if that there's no question that hurt him And who was it that just had a ball goals? His fingertips? Annie Miller? Yeah, that passed that would've been a touchdown, right? So there's the game right there. We might be singing a different song today. Well, we could be, but that's the same song with that signal for a month. Special teams and defense great Offense. Not so much. Here we go. Here we go again. Well, we always talk about Northwestern. That's more pleasant, isn't it? Yes, it is. That's gonna be a great game Saturday. Huge game Saturday against Wisconsin and Ryan Field, too. Terrific defense is two teams that like to pound the ball it Z serious has been very close over the years and The Badgers. Air certainly favored based on I think probably reputation have played two games. Northwestern's played four. But it's gonna be an interesting game and certainly the winner of this game is going to be In the driver's seat as far as winning the big 10 West. Northwestern won it two years ago, played Ohio State in the Big 10 championship game. Wisconsin won it last year and played Ohio State. The Big 10 championship game in Ohio State's Gotta play Indiana Saturday and Indiana's good Their top 10 top nine teams, so Big weekend coming up in football. He'll be fun to hear you. You and Ted on WGN radio doing the northwestern game. And of course, tonight we have Hampton, O'Bradovich and Kozlowski dissecting the bears. We better put that on a delay tonight seven until 10 will think you have to worry about that. I just think you have the book. Blood pressure monitors on happen. Obi and I wanted to mention Mark burly. Does he have a chance for the Hall of Fame? What do you think so? I would think so. I mean, The You know anymore. It's it comes down to comparables seems like and but you look at what some of his accomplishments over the course of his career. I would certainly think he would merit consideration and if if character counts, and it's supposed to, uh, this guy was off the charts Those account enough, though I don't think I guess not there A lot of good guys who are in the Hall of Fame. Well, if you penalize Pete Rose for bad character, you should reward guys for good care. I think this Point and I've said this I was. I was right there with those who thought that Rose did not belong in the hall, but at some point You know, I think I think it's it's time to let that go. I think so. He see, the all time hits leader should be in the Hall of Fame and their other bad boys in the hall there, plenty of them Ty Cobb for one there. Let's take a quick break here and then, uh, celebrity Chef Fabio Viviani joins us and.
