"The only repeat winner not dolby. Not rossi only marquez. He's done at three times while six. Two writers have all won once during that span and there are several reasons for that sometimes. It's the weather sometimes. It's a little bit of luck. in sometimes. The unpredictable racing surface which was ultra griffey. In two thousand eighteen lacked. Any bite at all in two thousand nineteen it got totally repaid before twenty twenty and so now the challenges continue as the writers try to learn the changing surface as quickly as possible as it starts to wear in. I'm it's not a particularly long track but packs quite a bit into its four kilometers or about a mile and a half or so. It's a mix of technical and deceptively fast considering its size. The first third is slow and twisty. But it's not stop and go. It's pretty flowing kind of a test of corner speed that also offers a couple of opportunities to pass in there as well especially the s.'s. Turns one and two and then that double apex term foreign five things then opened up quite a bit. Which of course gives the advantage back to the honda and cadi for maybe the suzuki but not with a traditional straight but gently curved. One that put you on the left side of the bike hard into a tightening hairpin. Turn seven then you get to the best part of the circuit the backstretch that dog legs right into curve oni. Three consecutive right-handers of varying mid the high-speed starting faster getting slower. As you go through and you have to be really really brave to carry as much corner speed as possible only to have the tiniest of straits at the end of that lead in the term fourteen cotto the slowest point on the track and a great opportunity to dive bomb under someone for a really hard block pass. And if all of that isn't enough after you spend all of that time on the right side of the tires then they throw a left-hander achy. So you have to be very careful not to lose the front in term fifteen as the left sides get cold. It's very reminiscent of the sachsenring in that respect but just the other way around and then speaking of block passing. Don't underestimate the final corner. Either there could be some good action there. Especially if i don't know maybe somebody named petco. And somebody may marker going at it on the final lap so misano offers a few handling sections. A few mid the high-speed edge grip type of sections and throttle control sections. And that's why we see a variety of winners here because it tends to lend itself to a variety of bikes especially considering the conditions. Now it should be dry which is a good thing. But it's also going to be hot. And you combine that with a circuit that already tests the frontier to its limit with a lot of edge time and lean angle breaking and there are a lot of challenges coming into the weekend which may tell things in favor of the more experienced riders. So that's where the racing now. Let's talk about who might be leading the way my favorites for this weekend's race the riders i think have the best opportunity to finish top five make room for the podium and maybe just maybe win the race. We're going to start with the championship leader. Fabio coiro and yes. I know he didn't have a great race last week. In fact i call it at his worst race of the year. And i still stand by that but he said coming in that it wasn't his best track of aragon he still finished eighth. And that's not bad. So i don't think many people are questioning. Fob us speed right now. I certainly am not m while this likely. Isn't the track where fabio was thinking he. Can you know bounce back in a way where he goes out and dominates like you did. It may be silverstone. There's still plenty of reason to think that he could come back strong from what happened in aragon as a rookie fabio quattro charo finished second in san marino. Last year he finished fourth in race to while he crashed race won twice but he was running fourth the time of that first wreck and he started on the front row. Every single time he's been at this circuit at the premier class level. So the comfort with the track is there. The speed in the past has been there and fabulous still has a pretty good point lead so he can afford to be a little bit more aggressive. And i would think that he's also coming into this one feeling like he's got to be a little bit more aggressive after what happened in aragon to prove to everybody that no. He's not going to have a collapse like you had last year so i think he's going to be focused and as long as the tires. Don't get in his way. I don't see how fabio coiro isn't going to be in the mix. Come sunday afternoon on next up on the favorites list for me. Joanne mir coming in off the podium last weekend mir has some momentum built-up and. I'm sure that he's looking forward coming into this particular track. After finishing on the podium im- both san marino rounds last year. I in the second race. He finished runner up after starting eleventh on the grid and is history. Goes back a little bit beyond that as well as joann was eighth and his rookie season here and he had a pair podiums and moto three as well. So the twisty parts and the higher speed corners definitely worked to the suzuki's advantage here in the bike. Being easy on tires doesn't hurt at this particular circuit as well then. Of course. Suzuki got that new ride height device for the second half. If that helps them a little bit on the faster sections. I would say bo suzuki. Riders could be competitive all the way to the end. Now a suzuki is never one emoji. P race at misano. But muir i think legitimately gives them a chance. of course. there's a caveat there and that caveat is qualifying. i don't care how many spots he made up last year. Mir isn't going to be able to win if he qualifies eleventh again. Qualifying is critical and we saw that last weekend mir started on row three and finished on the podium. Meanwhile alex ren's started twentieth and ended up twelfth so if if mere can get on the first two rows of the grid. He's got a real shot in this one all right moving.

"Except version zarco was on the medium and so we had to wait. I mean the race started with petco bag nyala front from the poll controlling the pace and everybody was content to leave it there because nobody wanted to use up all their stuff trying to make a run too early just to get past later on so we solid maybe four or five bikes up there in that group at the front but then eventually and martin marquez of cleared off a little bit then it became more of a chess match where you knew that the veteran was sizing the youngster up trying to figure out the best place where he can make his. Move where you know back. Nyah was stronger. Maybe a little bit weaker and then the final three laps. It was on. I mean a complete free-for-all mark taking six or seven legitimate shots at the lead and every single time back ni- kept his patients held his line and was able to strike back right away as a result and it was so much fun to watch. If back the only thing that i could have asked for watching this battle over the final few laps was for mark not to make that mistake the final time around. Because if he hadn't it totally would come down to those two guys side-by-side out of the final corner. We saw it in the two laps before that where mark got up beside petco back by and it would have been a drag race to the line but still even without that happening. What a fantastic shooed out. I was still jumping up and down over the last three laps trying to figure out what was going to happen. So let's talk about the riders in this one starting with the guy who came out victorious impeccable ni- and before we get to what happened in this race. Just think about petco. Two years ago or even last year for that matter in his first two years at the mo- gp level now with a bad team with cottie. Petco had twelve dns in thirty two races twelve. That means that thirty seven point five percent of the time across his first two seasons he as well a pack of each chairman umbrella because he ended up watching the race from a gravel trap from that point. He's given the factory bike this year. In not only does he score podiums and not only does he land himself second in the championship right now but he winds up in a battle with one of the best modo. Gp writers ever. It couldn't have been more intense multiple pass attempts. Any never lost his nerve. He was great getting off the corner the entire race. But that's just kind of a product of the and the forward drive that it has. He was phenomenal on the brakes especially going into those final two turns and going into turn one holding mark off multiple times. He upped his intensity without changing is lines without getting rattled or making a mistake with one of the toughest riders ever chasing him down and he didn't excellent job of managing that late race. Drop off of the tires that everybody was suffering through and minimizing that the amount that petco bagai has matured as a writer in such a short amount of time from last year to this year is remarkable and he absolutely earned his first motogp victory in spectacular fashion. It was phenomenal ride. He totally deserves it. And it's another rider. That's truly come into his own and established himself as a legitimate competitor and contender at the motor gp level. It's going to be very interesting to see if he can carry this over. In the next season with that kind of confidence already instilled we could easily see more battles between bagai and marc marquez. Along the lines of andrea. Its yosso mark over the past few years so it was incredibly impressive to watch. And let's not forget the marc marquez side of this thing too because mark may not be one percent yet but it's days like today that make you hope that he gets there soon because every race that he's a part of it the front becomes a heck of a lot more exciting as a result in now. It does help that. He didn't have a championship. You had to worry about the only thing. He was focused on was a win. But is that really that much different than in a championship season. And he measured this race upgrade. We give them credit how he ran this race. He bided his time. He followed petco as opposed to leading so he could learn where his best chances would be to make a pass. He was getting into the corner a little bit better than bag. Nyah was and he knew that he needed to try to force back. Ni- off his line in those big acceleration zone so he was trying to get side by side with him on the backstretch on the front stretch to try and throw him off game when it came to the qadis biggest advantage which was acceleration top speed. His strategy was solid and the speed. Was there petco simply out road. Him and mostly outbraked him to win. This one about when mark is able to step up attracts like this where he runs. Well it really does start to set the stage for next season where i fully expect them to be in the mix for the championship especially considering how good he was today when he wasn't at one hundred percent so it was new credibly fun race and a well run race by martin marquez and keep this in mind earlier in the year we were saying on a regular basis. That marks mind was a little bit more out into the future then. His body was in terms of ability. Well now physically. He's getting to the point where he can start to do the things that his mind is saying that he should be able to do. It's got to be a really scary thought for the rest of the field including writer we're gonna talk about here in a couple of seconds and fabio quad harare up before we get to fabio. Let's talk about the rider. Who finished third in this one. Show him mirror. Who scored one of the quietest podiums of his career. Because everybody was watching that battle between mark and petco and in the meantime mir went mostly unnoticed as he dispatched aleisha spa grow and got back on the podium after a two round absence and considering where fabio quad sharara finished in this race. It did help in the points to help. Enough mom will discuss that in a moment but it was still a solid. Brace for zhou. Amir up. I though we gotta talk about fabio quattro and this was by far his worst race of the year now. It's not his worst result that came in the arm pump race where he finished but this was still his worst race of the year assuming that he.

"It saban with that out of the way that means got one order of business left a race this weekend and this is going to be such a big such an unpredictable race. Fabio quattro edging away in the championship looking for that opportunity to just kick the door wide open and attractive. He's really not that fond of you've got more marquez. Who has been incredible here in the past looking to recreate some of the magic that we saw a couple of rounds of go back and saxon ring and then on top of all of that. Maverick van y'all is back on the affiliates. Let's talk about all of them. And what i think is gonna happen this weekend as we jump into our full preview of round thirteen of the twenty twenty one motogp championship the aragon gp at motor land aragon. And let's start by talking about this track. Aragon hasn't been around for a very long time but somehow to me at least it has the feel of a more historic more iconic track. Even though it's not and that's simply because they did a great job of designing it you know from that giant block wall. That looks like it's been there for century To the various challenges to allow out that really flows with the surrounding landscape. It's great looking. It's unique and an excellent all around test for riders. You know that now famous wall isn't just there for decoration. By the way that's part of the track up on top of it and that's how much elevation change. There is an arrogant. It's like a ride through the mountains but just a lot faster and you know without somebody crowding onto the double yellow line around a blind corner. The other great thing about aragon is how it mixes things up. The front part of the circuit is definitely more technical varying between mid speed and slower corners. And then things really open up and get more flowing on the back half including that big two hundred mph backstretch that really does even get some slipstream action on the motor gp bikes. But of course motor theory is going to be absolutely mental backstretch. But it doesn't even take that long for things to get going term. One is really fun. It's very hard heartbreaking and after that first lap once things get going. It's the perfect opportunity to outduel somebody on the brakes heading into that one The run up the hill to turn seven is also a great place for action. As is the heartbreaking turn twelve then that left right combo heading onto the backstretch an backstretch is really one of the highlights of this track for me. I mean just heading endlessly down towards turned sixteen there earlier. Get on the throttle. The later you get on the brakes at the end the more of a chance that you can surprise somebody heading into that. Big final bend back to start finish. Dicator of course is going to have an advantage to a lesser extent. Honda on the straight. But this is gonna be our best look yet. At how much zouqi may have gained back with that new rear ride height device are still gonna be losing out to the but maybe quite as much and of course yamaha's can have to make time in that area as well. The coolest part of this track though for me is the quasi corkscrew interns eight and nine tons of elevation change and it leads to a challenging high-speed left-hander that's very phillip island like so all the way around great stuff at track like i said it feels like a more historic track than one. That hasn't really been around that long. So that's where the racing now. Let's talk about the contenders the writers. I think have the best chance of finishing on the podium and this one maybe making it to the top step and taking home that trophy and more importantly the twenty five points and we've got to start our discussion of contenders in this one with fabio charro. Fabio was right in the middle of his late season slump when modo gp landed in aragon for two in a row last year and while he qualified on the polymerase one that was the highlight. He struggled mightily in that first race and only rebounded to eighth the second time around. But it hasn't been all bad for fabio in aragon he was fifth in two thousand nineteen and more importantly things are vastly different this season than they were one year ago at this time actually a little less than a year ago. Fob has been the fastest rider all year long in just when things started to look a little bit suspect in austria will watch brought it right back. Around with his blistering performance in silverstone this race is going to be a little bit more challenging. Thanks to a pair riders. We're going to talk about next but fabrio still for me is kind of the ryder. Beat right now. Even though like i said he's not that enthused about the track he might be playing it. A little bit cagey one way or the other. There's no question that if he can avoid any incidents in this one he'll be in the mix for the podium the entire way from start to finish now for the opposite situation. We need to look no further. The mr mark marquess because we're harare has been absolutely brilliant all year long but isn't good at aragon well with mark his results and his number of retirements this year. Really don't instill much confidence at all but his career at aragon been pretty spectacular in seven motor. Gp races mark has five podiums and every single one of those podium results victory and he's qualified on the pole in five of those seven races as well and yes. He's still working on getting back to being the marquez. That we knew before and there had been a lot of mistakes along the way. Some like last week's run running with martine totally avoidable. That's actually more concerning than the ones that weren't avoidable. But the speed is returning and we already saw what he was capable of back in germany when he gets to attract where he really feels. Confident and arrogant isn't quite saxon. Ring for mark in that respect but is pretty close me and he's really really good here and i think that that confidence in the track combined with speed that seems to be increasing each every round is going to make markelle podium contender. As long of course as he doesn't make any big mistakes now another writer they could easily give fabio run for his money sunday..

"Motive bike isn't starting last week. Started up just fine right this past weekend. I was walking by to go to the car. And i thought you know what i'm not quite chef arrive tomorrow so i better start it up sled warm up but the juices flow in a little bit crank fine won't catch that can smell feel so it's not feel it's definitely spark i can't imagine the mission failed just sitting in the garage for a couple of days. Who knows maybe it did on a battery tender and it says the battery is full up. But it's just a crappy lead acid battery. That's pretty old and so i already have an agm. That's sitting on the charger. That was slated to go into the bike. Anyway i'm hoping that swapping out the battery. It's just maybe voltage thing. And that's why. I'm not getting sparked but wish me luck because it's definitely being a qadi this week in old to gaudy this week Yamasaki doing attract a race onto was also at attract day but he was doing more of a marc marquez impersonation than fabio quattro one. He laid the bike down up. Fortunately it didn't look like there was too much damage one of the clip bonds scraping the fairing and you did get some free grass to take home too. So it's kind of like a little bit of a bonus right can joke around. Because i know that you're right And it's great that you're okay. It sucks though that your leathers got messed up. Sorry about that ma'am Tattooed raven was giving the twelve fifty. Gsa the brand new twelve fifty gsa anniversary edition a proper break-in on a trip with the wife. A anniversary model still looks cool. Ma'am be the wife has gs two which is absolutely awesome and see. Do not think when you posted that photo that the dog when noticed. that's hilarious. I does he or she added no boy or girl Does your dog. just chill out back there while you're riding. It looks like that was like a custom made like bucket for the dog to write it one way or the other. That's a riot and we need some details. And i want to know if the dog wears dog -als to i could try that with my dog but he weighs ninety five pounds so i don't think that would end welfare. Either one of us Fire in the sky seven living up to his screening by the way posting a shot of his tone. Oh i want to say as opposed sonars fee for in the bay with his work vehicles and ambulance and a fire engine and there are few things in my opinion that make you feel more like a kid no matter how old you are then a fire truck and it's kind of a side part of this new job that i have and i don't know if this makes sense to anybody but maybe fire this guy seven but it's part of this new job. I sometimes have to set up in trouble. Shoot the mdc. In multiple types of units ended. The fire engines are always the coolest. I don't care how old you are always like super stoked when one of a missing a fire engine so that's very cool stuff man and addictive by to all right. So that's it for the comments and pick some video. If i didn't get yours chances. Are you posted it. Probably in the past twelve to fourteen hours. Before i sat down to do the show So definitely keep hosting and we'll get to yours on the next episode right now though got a race to talk about. that's right. Finally the series is headed back to silverstone the british. Gp has been a bumpy road. The past few years with the whole circuit of wales thing never materializing and then silverstone stepping back into continue hosting the round. Then we had the flood of two thousand eighteen which cancelled the race. Just the water problems and of course last year was nixed due to the pandemic so this is just the second race here in four years but there will be a race. So let's talk about it preview. Round twelve of the twenty twenty one motor gp world championship. The british gp at silverstone before we get to the favorites in my picks. Let's start by talking about the tracks silverstone and all of its legendary corners. It's big. it's fast with a lot of throttle time. And not a ton of heartbreaking zones and if the famous british weather cooperates well we should get to see very wide open race. And if it doesn't then guys like jack miller and cal slow. They're going to be extra happy. The great thing about silverstone is that it isn't only fast mean there are a pair of straits to let the do coty in the honda stretch out there ample legs but the rest of the track does toss in a mix of low mid an high speed corners that will allow this the of the world to keep up. And as we'll talk about in a minute yamaha actually does quite well here even considering top speed they give up to the qadis and the fact that different parts of the track. Really do favor. The strengths of different bikes can be directly seen in the number and variety of winners here in the last british. Gp's there have been no repeat winners super in the marc marquez era and four different manufacturers have taken the top spot yamaha suzuki of won two races each while hyundai. Do coty have both one wants. Ktm very easily could score win here as well There are many familiar names. Given to the many turns of the nearly six kilometer circuit but few are more famous than the maggots beckett's and chapel combo a series of essays. That get gradually tighter from start to finish. And clearly in my opinion part of the inspiration for the s.'s. At circuit of the americas but the most important part of that trio is chapel. Because the right line through their means good drive out of the corner and onto the biggest straight of the track and big speeds down at the end of the strait could play a critical role in the race. As guys passing down in the stowe corner beyond that valen club corner along with the tighter section at the loop could provide some action as well as the hairpin luffield but the important corners are the speed corners Chapel like already talked about abby and particularly would coat coming to the start. Finish line where you pretty much aim for the inside pit wall and then just cracked the throttle wide open and we saw how important getting through that corner was two years ago with that. Amazing finish with alex rinse and martin marquez and rinse making that pass in would coat to take the win the entire place. There's you to be brave on the throttle..

"He would have been fast enough to be there with petco by probably would've finished ahead of where. Hey martine but in the dry of course he was going to battle for the win in the dry he looked absolutely fantastic. And it's the best. He's looked since his return outside of germany so he may have punt it in the end. But i'm looking very forward to seeing what mark is gonna do when we get to silverstone and especially in aragon where he's been so so good in the past it's very saxon ring like track for him and i did see at least one headline that. Mark had some painkiller injections in his shoulder before he went out there. But keep in mind back to back races at the rebel ring which are very heartbreaking heart. Accelerating track that's going to be really hard on your shoulder and your arms. So i'm not that concerned about it because he's obviously going to have a week to recover before silverstone. There's another week between the british grand prix and aragon then. That's the next back to back. Aragon going into misano. So there's a little bit of time. They're not imagine that for that back to back. Probably some sort of painkilling injection there too. I'm art couple of other writers that we need to talk about starting with our championship leader. Fabio quattro pro. Who also made a mistake on wets running away wide and determined won his first time background after he switched off to his reign bike. That was the same lap in the same corner that mark wrecked in and that took fabio from possible. Podium all the way back to seventh not where he wanted to finish. Obviously and he wasn't really happy about that. But i argue. He should be happy about it because things could have been way worse. Instead of running wide he could have suffered the same fate as mark instead. Not only did he stay on the bike and make it to the end of the race but he actually increased his championship. Lead again by seven points so seventh-place result or not it was mission accomplished. He just needed to get through both rebel ring weekends without losing big chunks of his lead and not only did he not lose he actually gained from the break until now so even though he finished seventh still a good weekend for him and for show amir he didn't really get the opportunity to make his presence known in this one although he was moving up along with. Hey martine in those mixed conditions but his relatively unnoticed fourth-place resolve at the end of this one may not be memorable but it certainly helps him out in the points which will discuss here in a moment by the way how. 'bout eager like lona and luca marini staying on slicks and finishing fifth and sixth in this one their best finishes ever emoto gp even valentino. Rossi ended up eighth. And it's amazing to think that none of those guys that gambled on slicks actually wrecked out wild wild stuff all right. So you're podium and this one brad bender. He's brave. He's ballsy he's a little bit crazy and now because of that he's also a two time motor gp winner. He gambled and it paid off big. And i'm sure the. Ktm was thrilled to have their colors on the top of the box at their home track. Petco back naya was fast in the dry. He was fast in the wet and he's now taking the point into cadiz championship quest. Which will discuss here in a second and then hey. Martine rounds out the podium. He continues to impress and he now has three podiums in his first seven motor. Gp racism remember. A couple of those races were back from injury. He was definitely not at one hundred percent. Now let's talk about the championship. Because like i mentioned a moment ago. Fabio coiro actually increased his lead by decent amount over these two rebel ring races. But that doesn't tell. The entire story johann zarco wrecked in this race. One of only two riders that wrecked out of this race. Miguel oliveira was the other one and as a result. He relinquished both. Second and third place in the ryder standings to appear guys that finished higher in this race. Then fabio deb. So yes the lead increased. It's at forty seven points now just shy of a tourist margin and that's pretty big but that lead is now over petco bag in second followed by defending champs roy moore who sitting that same forty seven points out. Sarko is still hanging in there but at forty nine points out after the wreck. Then jack miller is v. he's minus seventy six but now things do look a little bit more interesting because now instead of a satellite rider being second in the queue fabulous instead looking down at a pair of factory writers and one of those has a championship to his name so yes. The contenders are further back. But i think both of those contenders have more potential to make up ground and all it would take is one slip up fabrio and we've got ourselves a pretty compelling championship battle between him. A factory do khadi rider and a factory suzuki rider. Still bobbio is in the driver's seat. Here and i think he survived the biggest challenge so far this year getting past these austrian rounds and not having things be a disaster but the championship drama is starting to build a little bit because of the writers that are immediately behind him now even if they do have a decent amount of ground that they have to make up so my take on the red bull ring for this weekend's austrian. Gp just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier.

"His solution is simple limit. The gearing on the top end and a majority of the madness goes away now. Obviously this guy totally knows what he's talking about far more than i do but not only does it sound like a good idea. I think it would actually work. I mean you still get a slipstream but only to the extent that the gear will allow you that the rpm's will allow you. It may not be the perfect solution. But it's a very simple fix race direction to mandate a particular six gear. That's shorter than what they're using right now and it will be something. That's easy to balance if it favors one manufacturer over the other. They can adjust between races even if they wanted to until they have the perfect formula to keep the action just as much fun but not have these huge packs of five ten fifteen writers all clamoring into one big corner together on the brakes and running into each other freak mobile posted a poll this week which i found pretty interesting he said hey in the wake of the syrian. Gp does that. Change your opinion of who could win the championship. Especially with suzuki's rear ride height device looking so effective right out of the box that has freak mobile thinking that joanne mir could have a big enough second half surge to get back to the top. If we agreed with that well the overwhelming majority are still looking at bobbio sharara to lead the way in the championship. He got my vote for two reasons number one. He still looked very strong last weekend. At a non yamaha track and number two he actually increased his point lead in serious so he only has one more race in austria to survive. No matter what happens in this one he will leave the weekend with the point lead. And i think that's a very big advantage for him going forward but that question and break mobile's reasoning for it because the rewrite device looks like it's very successful already for suzuki. That led james to wonder something a little bit different about that situation he said. Hey if joanne mir now takes off and he starts racing really really well but he can't quite catch up the fabio quattro at the end of the season and just misses out. Would he then turn around. And point the finger. Back at suzuki for not giving him the ride height device until the middle of the season. I'm not sure. I mean he doesn't strike me. Show 'em mirror as the type of person who would do that. Point the finger at us manufacturer because it had a really good relationship at least not at this early stage of his career. But i think that both he would know an suzuki would know that that was very likely the case they dropped the ball. Not the rear shock in the first half of the season. And then looping back the casey. I'm really quick. Decimal valvo one wondered if aren't kind of painting themselves into a corner a bit talent wise and he wondered why they don't have already a plan for the bounty of talent coming up through their system whether that be to cash in on them like they could've withrow fernandez or expanding their mo- gp p. program just like do cadi has to accommodate more riders. Is there a dead end at some point where katie ends up with way more talent than they have bikes to support at the motor. Gp level absolutely and we are very rapidly reaching that point. in fact we're kind of their. I don't know what's going to happen to. Pedro cost to get tomato to and looks as spectacular as he has emoto three. Although with this raul fernandez situation. He may solve that problem for them by running off yamaha at the first opportunity in two thousand twenty three but one way or the other. Yes they're gonna run into that scenario and it's going to get worse and worse as they bring up better and better talent right now as to why. Ktm may not choose to cash in on the contract. Clause of a rider like growl fernandez. When yamaha's both desperate and has the cash to offer a case could be made for them doing that getting something for that rider before they go off and do big things for someone else. But i don't think they want to take the chance of a whore. Hey martine part two right now willingly giving away a rider that is already beating them now. Eventually they made the side cash out on one of those clauses but every time they do they're taking a chance and it's a hard decision even when you have an excess of talent they do. It's a difficult decision because these are all young riders that you don't know yet what they're gonna do emoji and so every time you make that decision to keep or get rid of a rider. You're taking the chance that they're going to either sore with somebody else or fall flat on their face for you and i'm sure that's what kind of makes them reluctant to do something. Let raul fernandez walk right now in pocket a big pile of cash now when it comes to satellite teams. I could potentially see them trying to expand to six bikes. I don't think dorner will want them to. But i don't think dorner wants to kati to do that. And they are so maybe it will make during a happier for ktm to have spikes and do cody to have six instead of eight and four so that could potentially be an option for them in the near future while they're gonna have to come up with some sort of plan sooner rather than later all right so we got a couple of picks video that were posted on reddit before we get to. This weekend's race. I want to start with jamie. Who posted a video of her son's reaction to sunday's moto three race and that was an absolute run that was so cool and that is a great example of parenting by the way not just encouraging him to watch mo- gp but all the way down the moto three to love it. And i think he may be a future sergio garcia fan because he seemed way more enthused when garcia got back on the bike and brought it home second then when pedro acosta actually won the race. So you might to buy him a t shirt now. Fifty nine spam was giving his new a proper running on some amazing roads last week including the tail of the dragon. Although i will ask that first photo that you posted the sign right behind you. Is that supposed to be some sort of warning to motorcyclists. Because i read that like an invitation personally and then finally marcel martinez nine hundred new bike day for him or at least close to a new.

"And how qualifying has been his arch nemesis this season. I think there's only two races all year long that he started inside the top ten and watching once again. What he did in this race is just just reinforcement that. If brad bender could just simply figure out how to qualify well he would likely be doing the same exact things. We've seen out of miguel lavera before the break and miguel by the way was injured in this one. That's why he was really not that great all weekend long and brad proved it again. Today i mean he started sixteenth and he was ninth as late as lap. Sixteen in this race. And then he just comes blazing through the field in the final third getting by bo takenaka gami and johann zarco in the final few corners of the last lap to get an incredibly impressive fourth place. Finish after starting sixteen. They just need to figure out how to get him. On the first three rows of the grid and brad bender could make some big big waves over the second. Half of the season. Never talking nakagomi. Well i don't know maybe he's feeling a little bit of that. Pressure from iowa is increasingly more impressive performances. Emoto too but one way or the other taco was motivated and he was looking a lot more like he did in twenty twenty in this race then has so far in twenty twenty one and getting roughed up a bit by bender at the end was really his low misstep and talk a finally gets back into the top five for the first time since he res- was a really good race for him on the other end of the spectrum. I wanna talk about three writers who did little to help their chances on sunday. And they all happen to be on do kadi's starting with johann zarco who actually had a decent race and he was in a really good spot when jack miller went out to at least only finish one spot behind fabio quattro in this one but then he let to riders. Get by him in those final few corners on the last lap going from fourth to sixth. And you just you can't. You can't do that if you want to be in the championship against a guy who's been as fast as fabio quarrel has been all season long. You can't make those mistakes especially when you're chasing writer in the championship if you've got the buffer. Well okay you lost a couple of points. Come back the next day. You can kind of fix it. But here's arco is a good distance behind. He needs every single point he can get in those situations. You have to find a way to stay in front of two riders who you are better than and i know that's arguable. But based on the results we've seen the season zarko should have been able to best takenaka gami and brad bender instead. He lost out the both of them. That's really really bad way for him to end the race for petco back niamh. I mean when this first started before the red flag. He looked like he was going to be a contender and then he was simply flat in the second race. He never got anything going it all and he finished eleventh doing himself no favors. And then jack miller ma'am after leading the race early and then falling out of the podium spots. Jack was in the middle of a late race. Push to get by fabio coiro. Get back on the podium. Make up some points in the championship as well which would have been huge for himself. Amber johns arco too. Because it would have taken a couple of points away from coiro. And i really don't think showing mir would minded. That's so much either. But then he lost the front end in the stadium section with ten laps to go trying desperately to match the corner speed of the aha instead of being patient and relying on the dakotas real strength which was sectors one two and four. Don't try make it all happen in three if you don't got it in three right and instead of maybe getting on the podium or at least finishing fourth he missed out on at least thirteen points. Maybe even sixteen and because of that. He's now over seventy points out in the championship. He is perilously close to having his title. Bid for twenty twenty one come to an end as well before we finish up on the qadis by the way how about the droese finishing tenth in this race he got the last spot based on a track limits and fracture but still top ten for a guy who hasn't racing a couple of years. I think that's a good day. All things considered becoming background to. It wasn't a good day for them. Obviously they didn't accomplish what they set out to and yet she still had a smile on his face at the end of the day. Why is that well. Because i'm pretty damn sure. He was looking up at martine on the top. Step of that podium and thinking there's next factory rider that's the guy i'm going to go. Try to win a championship with if these other guys aren't going to step up for me. Because if mirrored one or even if somebody like johann zarco have one he was going to be pretty darn upset that his factory guys didn't step up to the challenge. But instead i think he was seeing the future up there and thinking you know what maybe not this year but maybe next year or the year after that because i got somebody. I can really really work with here so on the podium whore. Hey martine his first victory pray mac qadis first victory in modo. Gp and a fantastic display of talent from future contender show. Amir was second the ride height device and the result that came with it. I think definitely gives mir and suzuki a ton of forward momentum them running at the podium fabio quarrel he just keeps on going and this is just like a win for him in a champion like effort as well and in that championship while fabio of course still leads the way and he actually has a bigger lead believe it or not when he showed up in austria which is huge the margin now stands at forty points after johann arcos last lap. Struggles mirror gets couple back. He's now fifty one out while disappointing efforts for both factory riders. Lee petco back. Nine of fifty eight points. Back in jack. Miller wapping seventy two behind some more and more this fabio quattro arrows championship to lose..

brad bender johann zarco miguel lavera bo takenaka gami nakagomi jack miller kadi fabio quattro fabio quarrel arco zarko takenaka gami Emoto fabio coiro Amber johns coiro miguel bender brad niamh

"Even though the original bikes were you know. Burnt to a crisp. Although only danny dead. Because lorenzo was banged up in that wreck on but then we get back on the grid ready to go. The tracks cleaned up. The track workers by the way did a phenomenal job getting that track back in shape as quickly as they did. Then maverick vignolle is after. He finally finally had a good start to a modo. Gp race for like the third time in the past two years right. He comes back and race to and stalls his bike on the grid for the warm up lap and as a result had to start from pit lane. I mean again. The wildest stuff happens at the rebel ring a but once things did finally get going well got a proper race especially at the beginning of this one. The coty slugging it out. In the opening laps with jack miller. Or hey martine and johann zarco along with the impressively strong suzuki of joel mirror and that new ride height device all running nose to tail dicing a little bit and at that point. It looked like we might be in store for another fantastic shootout. That was going to go right down to the final corner. It didn't work out that way. And despite all of the experienced drivers around him in that battle ultimately was whore martine that took the advantage passing miller for the top spot. Pretty early on then. He proceeded the just throw down and incredible string of laps. All in the one twenty fours edging out a tenth year and attempt their against joanne mir before simply putting things away in the final four to five laps or so. He was so consistent down the stretch in this race while mir just made a couple of mistakes here and there is tried everything he could to keep up with the straight line speed of that two cardi. And i'll tell you what a huge huge moment for. Hey martine and for pre mcrae sing after jorges showed us a flash of his potential and low sale getting on the podium and then he immediately got hurt afterwards. He was struggling to get healthy going into the break when he came back. He was definitely not himself. He had to retire and asks him because the pain was just too great to make it the rest of the way then. Of course last year he had to sit out for covert and he was slow coming back from that as well very likely cost him a shot at the motor to championship and not to mention having historian. Gp win taken away. Motoo with the track limits violation one year ago where he crossed the line first but he had gone into the green paint so we ended up finishing second to come back from all of that especially this stuff this year and look so strong you know before the season started. I was very confident coming into the year. That or hey. Martine was going to be good and he's already looking like a veteran out there and exceeding expectations. And you know last year. When do coty made the announcement that they had signed martine he was going to ride a premed to kathi in twenty twenty one. I sat on the show. I had no clue. No clue at the time why katie. I'm was willing to let him walk away when very easily could have put him on a tech three bike and kept him in house while they're learning. How big of a mistake. That was already learned their lesson. And that's why raul fernandez is coming to tech three next year but this definitely puts an exclamation point on the end of that lesson because martine could have been putting in that performance for ktm right now instead of for cadi. He had a fantastic race and trust me. He is the real deal what we saw the podium in los sale and the poll in that race to the pole. And the win this weekend. It is not a mirage. He is legitimately that talented and legitimately that fast. And don't forget. This is also the first premier class victory for prey as well after nearly two decades of trying and getting so close especially the past few seasons with jack miller and john zarco a not to mention guys in the past like alex barros antonio leah's and andre who tried before just a great moment for them and m representative to of just how competitive things are right now on the motor. Gp grid yes. A do khadi does go out there and handily win the race. But it's not a factory to kati at all. It's one of the satellite riders. Now joanne mir tried everything he could in this race and full credit goes not justice zouqi for finally getting that ride height device. Ready to go and on the bike for the second half but also the mirror for taking full advantage qualifying in the second row which was their biggest weakness this season and last season for that matter to and then showing us what he's capable of when he does qualify on the front two rows hanging martines rear tire at a very do khadi track right up until the final few laughs most importantly for though he finished ahead of fabio quattro now. He didn't gain very many points as a result. But it's a start and anything is a step in the right direction and yes. He didn't win this race. But i would say that the boost that they're going to get from the success of this rewrite device is going to propel mir's confidence well into the second half of the season to make him feel like he can genuinely compete with anybody else on the grid right now. And that's probably the biggest takeaway for him and suzuki from this day of racing. Then for fabio sharara. He was the only one of my picks for this race. That was actually spot on a fabio into this one looking to kinda limit the damage and it honestly couldn't have worked out much better for him. I mean if fabio could pick one do kadi writer. Go out there and win this race. He would have picked who are hey martine. I mean he's the only rider in that takata roster that doesn't hurt fabio by going out there and winning. While joanne mir dig gain a couple of points it was just a couple and mir was over. Fifty points out to begin with so again not allowed to damage. Done you combine that. With the fact that johann zarco was treated very rudely on the final lap and it was a great great day for fabio. coiro he not only preserves his championship lead. He increased it and he showed us all that he still as fast as he was in the first half and he's the undisputed championship favorite right now. He just needs to get through next weekend and he's gonna be looking pretty good heading into the final part of the season now. Let's talk about brad bender and we talked a little bit about brad on the pre-race show..

Fabio quattro zipper. That was big. We're never going to see that again. I don't think but austria. Definitely up the ami on sunday with guys stalling on the grid youngsters taking the podium. An actual pyrotechnics. We'll talk about it all along with the winners losers and the championship picture in all three classes on the show today now like we typically do on the post show. "One is notably down on top speed. They still have to feel like they're capable of attacking here but on the other end of the spectrum. You've got valentina rossi. A film writer with cal crutch slow. They're not likely the factor very prominently for petronas and maverick penola is is a complete unknown coming into his first race since the announcement that he's going to leave at the end of the by the way i would say that the happiest person in all of austria right now is maverick fan because after five straight weeks of all of us speculating about what he's gonna do next year. Nobody's talking about that. Everybody's talking about valentina rossi retiring instead. Maverick definitely owes valentino basket at the end of the year for stealing a spotlight. That vanilla didn't even want on him in the first place. So that worked out really really good for malvo on that one But getting back the amaha the speed disadvantage is going to be their biggest challenge coming into this one am really kind of managing. The race is going to be the name of the game at yamaha. Get fabio is close to the front as possible so he can use the brakes and twisty bits to stay in it lose his few points as possible and then move on. But i still wouldn't count bobbio out a podium contention by any stretch of the imagination. The other guys. Yeah pretty much bobbio. No i think that he's so fast. This year that he very easily could be a factor in this race. Now let's move on the honda who hasn't gotten a ton of credit for it. But they are always racy in austria most notable those epic battles between marc marquez and andrea david. Co so but hey dana. Pedro has gotten on the podium. Here cal crush low has been far off himself and talking nagami some decent finishes too so the honda gives up way. Less in terms of straight line. Speed as some of the other manufacturers. M mark has always been able to attack the corners here and he likes high speed corners. Anyway the rear grip issues from the first half. Those could be problematic. Marquez health is always lingering question mark but if his shoulder is feeling better he's a solid contender. Poll spago has podium experienced here as well. The plan should be the push hard and get a strong start to the second half. Especially since fabio quattro yaro may or may not be playing as big of a role here as he did in the first nine races. So it's definitely an opportunity. The doors open for opportunity when it comes to honda to get on the podium. Now for suzuki despite not having the top speed of the do coty or the honda for that matter. They actually did quite well in austria last year. Both joanne mir and alex rinse were running near the front mir scored second and fourth place finishes and of course rin's wrecked out a podium position. Which kind of sounds like every race. This year But he did that last year and one of the races as well but the important part here for suzuki the rear whole shot ride height device is done and none too soon because with those three speed straits there are few tracks where a ride height device would come in more handy and help them combat their never ending qualifying problems now. Rinse should be far. Better health this time around. After is texting while cycling debacle and meanwhile join amir finds himself edit critical juncture in his title defense and needs to get the second half off to a good start. So the parts are here. They're on the bike. And alex anjouan need to take this opportunity to attack because if they can on saturday we know they're capable of getting on the podium on sunday moving over to outside of do coty. Ktm have to be the most excited for two in a row at their home track. They not only made huge strides here last year. With police grow. Locked in that epic. Battle with jack miller for the win and then miguel olivera darting past both of them to take the victory but they also made huge strides. This year. with the new chassis. Which has been nothing short of magic for olivera providing a little bit milder boost. When it comes to brad bender so not only did they know they can compete with cottie and both of these races but they have a ton of confidence and a ton of momentum coming out of the break being at their track in front of their hometown fans. I don't see why they won't be thinking about multiple podiums and going for victories. Miguel of area certainly capable and branded or could step up to the challenge as well even if tech three may not be able to carry a large share of the load across this weekend. I'm finally appreciate you know. They've certainly taken a big step in the right direction. The season but as we talked about during the midseason review alicia spargo says that what those guys need now. More than anything is an engine with the power necessary to match what their latest chassis is capable of and attract that is so dependent on horse power and acceleration. That means. this probably isn't the place where they're going to crack into the top five unless who knows. Maybe they'll surprise us with that. Brand new motor. That aleisha is looking for this weekend but that being said i still think spago has a shot to land inside the top. Ten part of what. He's giving up an acceleration and top speed is going to come back in the form of less tire. Wear in the closing laps. And that should maybe help. Minimize the late race fade. That has multiple times this year. For the ap- really So i think. They need the temper their expectations for these two weeks. But i think getting into the top ten in both races would be a good goal for alleys and company all right so those are the manufacturers. Now let's move on to the favorites riders. I think have the best shot at finishing on the podium in this one and maybe just maybe taking home that first place trophy and i expect a huge internal battle between the do khadi riders and it could be pretty fierce because they all want to be the one to lead the way at a track where they know. They're strong and they all want to prove to do khadi. That day can be the top rider here. But it's jack miller that's going to be. The rider do looks to to lead the way. He's the only person on the grid other than marc marquez to have multiple podiums at the red bull ring. Any got both of his podiums one year ago with impressive. Third and second-place showings the last of those of course in that fantastic battle with police spago now. Before.

"That point. I've been driving for so long. That i decided to stop nocco all the way down to key west because it was gonna take forever to come back and i do regret not going all the way down checking out where you guys were down there at the bottom and a side note right now of bart are twelve fifty gs where we're just having this conversation. You and me man am fifty. Nine baseman is well. Because nobody else is gonna what we're talking about. I don't know why you took that went down. Your axes are awesome. You know what i'm talking about. I've got iraq. Sitting right next to me can see it right here. That looks very very similar to that. My les paul is tobacco burst. It's not white not only have one acoustic And i do have a bit of a weakness for rickenbach irs. Even though i don't really play anymore. And i should really sell them. But i'll dig your stuff man. It's really awesome and then finally. Dj saw a late nineties x. Are one of the ram air ones in full on lucky strike livery just hanging out on the streets of austin thought enough to snap a shot and share it with us. You know. every time. I see an old bike like that in person. I think it's totally cool and ended up winning one which is pretty much why i have a garage full of old bikes and that is not something i would necessarily recommend other but hopefully my dream is at one day. I'll have one of my old bikes sitting out in the street and somebody will think it's semi cool enough to take a photo of it and posted somewhere. Don't have my fingers crossed for that though. I'm all right. So keep on posting. Like i said i haven't seen any of your valentine rossy comments yet and i am highly looking forward to them so facebook dot com slash motor week dot net or over on the red at sub at our slash motorway guard. So of that's out of the way and now it is time finally after weeks and weeks of waiting to go racing again. That's right moto. Gp is back. The series hits the track this weekend for the first of two consecutive rounds at the red bull ring in austria. First stop is sunday's steering gp technically fill in for the cancel finished gp. And then we're going to do it all again a little over a week from now with the austrian. Gp on the surface. This is a big opportunity for takada to make up some ground on fabio quattro in the championship battle but despite the fact that dukakis won five of the six races run here since the series returned in two thousand. Sixteen competition is closing in in. Ktm scored the last victory here. Honda has always been hot. On the dakotas rear tire and even yamaha suzuki have been more competitive since the first race. Back in austria you toss in the fact that only one of the four riders that have ever won a race here. Emoji p. is actually in the field this weekend and it's easy to see how this does have the potential to be a pair of really wide open races. Even though the duke in the end still feel like they come in with the advantage. Thanks to the layout of this track and with that. Let's talk about the track because this place is so much fun. The rebel ring but at the same time it is so treacherous. As of course we witnessed last year It's about big speeds and big breaking you know the rebel ring fully flips the switch on stopping racing. And this comes at just the right time for do khadi who are like i mentioned a moment ago looking to rain in fabio coiro get back into the championship and they get not one but two races in a row here to try to do it but not the yamaha's going to be left out in the cold here. I mean it is a european track so we do get a short stadium section with some twisty bits and good grip that the omaha can take advantage of but to get to that. Section is all stop and go. The front stretch is a moderate pill with a ninety degree right at the end. And then you get a massive am fast run the rest of the way up. The hill that ends at the tightest turn on the entire circuit. You get back on the throttle down the hill forever and the turn three and then into that big stadium section which is actually really cool. Instead of titan technical this features more sweeping changes of direction with a ton of veg time it really demands a lot of throttle control then the last couple of turns very reminiscent of cataluna. And we've seen action in those last couple of turns that is very much reminiscent of catalonia. And then that's some fast straights not a lotta turns and you're back to the beginning again. The highlight or i guess for some people the low light of this course. Turn three at the end of that big uphill straight. That is definitely the challenge of this entire circuit. You go from the fastest point on the track to the slowest point and incredibly difficult. Semi-blind turn it's so easy to override turn three and we'll see it happen across all three classes on a regular basis all weekend long if you start breaking just a little too late or try to cut that corner too much. You're going to run wide. And of course as we found out a year ago the run up to turn three through turn to that. Dogleg can be just as wild looking at you when i say that jones arco and really the corners the few corners there are at the end of those straits. That's the challenge. That's the main challenge of this entire track. Big straits beg you the stay on the throttle but the majority of the coroner's really wanted to back them up a little bit and be safe with them. So it's very tempting to push a little further and a little further and carrying more and more of that big big closing speed until suddenly pushed too and either lost a ton of granitz result. Or you've run into franken morbidelli. The best corners here for me are actually those final. Two that are very catalonia. Like great opportunity for a last ditch effort up the inside as we've certainly seen in the past for mark ndovi even if we don't get a mark dovy battle this time around. So that's where they're racing now. Let's talk about who's racing starting with the manufacturers and obviously at the top of the list do khadi. They are really looking forward to these two races more than anyone else. The long straights the heartbreaking zones the overall lack of corners. This place has really been suited to the desma. Oh better than pretty much anyone else and that has certainly shown in the results again i mentioned earlier. Decoding has won five of the six modo. Gp races run at the rebel ringing on top of that they've scored half of all the podiums that have been handed out. Even though honda has always been close behind. Casey emma rapidly gaining at their home. Track this has always been one of do kadi's strongest places and just like last year when there were also two races here as the do cadi. Riders were trailing in the championship. This once again is a critical moment in the season and a huge opportunity for the cadi riders to make a sizeable dent in fabio. Quattro rose ryder lead along with yamaha's margin in the constructors standings as well and far more than last year when they arrived here. They've got a deep field of riders capable of coming through for them mean last year. They pretty much had doe that was capable of winning. And that's it this year. Even though none of the writers on the current roster outside of jack miller have a podium at the rebel ring. I would say they are all capable of landing on the box and miller zarco and back ni- could compete for the win so decoding half to capitalize and they have to maximize their points while they have the advantage. Here i think going to be not just thinking win. But they're going to be thinking about having multiple riders on the podium in both of the racists to try to catch yamaha who by the way find themselves in a very interesting position coming into these races us. So let's talk about yamaha now on one. Hand fabio qantara was on fire in the first half and even at a place like the rebel ring where the m one is notably down on top speed. They still have to feel like they're capable of attacking here but on the other end of the spectrum..

"Not have signed a contract until patrol us was figured out and girl off certainly wouldn't have signed a contract until everything on the motor. Gp level is figured out. And i don't know if it's a very conservative plan being placed by omaha or if maybe there's some influence here from dorna trying to make sure that both series have viable talent moving forward that they're both developing their own stars so that they can help promote world superbike and make it feel more like an anchor series as opposed to just a development series for riders. Going off to mow gp. I don't know but keep in mind that even though we're at scott leo glue and girl off both have world superbike contracts. Those contracts are with yamaha so things are not necessarily cast in concrete that they aren't coming to motor. Gp that could have been a preliminary thing guaranteeing to both riders. That yes you're gonna have a ride on one of our bikes. So don't worry about it and we could end up finding out in the next couple of weeks or so that that contract is going to be transferred over to mow p. so i wouldn't one hundred percent. Close the door on either of those riders but as of right now it looks very unlikely that garrett girl off is going to be making the move to a patrol spike next year. Which as a fan of us riders. I find that very disappointing. But at least yamaha is one hundred percent behind him in his world superbike endeavors trying to get to the top step of the podium then eventually trying compete for a championship but with both of those riders off the board and in my opinion the jonathan ray thing maybe maybe not but probably on the maybe not side. Who does that leave for. Petronas seat or seats in two thousand twenty two while the rest of the petronas roster right now consists of jake dixon and chevere. Hey and motoo. And the durham bender. And john mcphee emoto three of those riders already in the petronas system. I would say that. Dixon sim probably has the best shot at one of those two seats if both are indeed available especially since that we get a british rider back on the grid. And that's something that i'm sure is a priority for dorna as well and along those same lines. Same lows name has been kicked around as a potential writer to make return in this case to motor. Gp although if i'm being perfectly honest here if that's what they're down to they want have british rider. Dorner wants them to have a british rider. They're looking at jake dixon. They're looking at sam. Lowes if those are the guys that they're looking at. I might actually consider scott reading. I mean his size may once again be a bit of a concern when trying to replicate the success that he's having in world superbike right now but the guy's worked as ass off to get back to the world stage and you got a british rider got moto. gp experience you know that he's got the mindset to get back on the bike. Ken all of that overcome his size. Disadvantage in the premier class. I don't know but if you want to have a british rider on the grid. And you've got dixon lows and scott reading kind of out there in front of you. I i would be tempted to go with writing on that one. And hey i say that having been a critic of some of writings shenanigans in the past when he was a motor. Gp but i'd be looking for a guy if i were yamaha. That has some potential upside that really wants to get on the bike and work hard. And i think that reading would maybe fit that bill better than the other guys. I don't know. Tell me what you think on facebook. Or i'm it now. Yamaha had already reportedly made a play to buy outright fernandez's contract told them to go pound sand which is unsurprising. And it looks like as part of that that casey him then went back to fernandez and said listen. Just ignore this yamaha noise if you really want to be a motor. Gp that badly will make room for you attack. Three and i don't know if that rumor is one hundred percent like verified or not. But i would not be surprised at all if we get an announcement here in the next week or two that raul fernandez and remmy gardner are both going to be making the jump from moto to up to the tech. Three squad. I see no reason why they wouldn't want to do that at this point. I'm but with raul fernandez off the board girl off out of the picture along with topography. Scotla glue technically. All of the sudden yamaha looks like they're kind of in a similar position to apprecia- last season they potentially have two seats to give. I don't know that they have to riders that are really solid prospects that are willing to take those two seats right now and that is really really odd. I mean i said last year when a whole bunch of riders turned down that apparently rod. I said that at some point in the future. I don't know win at that point. I didn't know win but at some point in the future some of these guys were going to seriously regret not having taken advantage of that opportunity to get on the ground floor with. This isn't a groundfloor opportunity. I mean look at what fabio was doing. Yes maverick fan. Y'all is struggling. But we know that's a mind set thing valentine rossi struggling. We'll of course he is. He's forty two years old. He's not going to be standing up on the top step of the podium every single race or even a couple of times a year and then you've got franken morbidelli who was clearly affected by his injury all the way back at loma and has been ever since then and so gives the impression that the bike is terrible but at the same time you've got fabio quad harare who is absolutely tearing it up this season on the same exact bike that rossi and vanilla leser on somebody who said no or signed another contract when they could have made a big push to get on that petronas bike. That is the factory specs bike. Somebody's going to regret that decision as well even more. Then some of those guys are going to regret the decision to not get on the appropriate because yamaha is a bike that could go out and get results. Fabio quattro showed that to us last year and franco. Morbidelli showed us that. Even the older spec stuff could go out and get results last year and this year so it is a bit of a perplexing situation and. I don't exactly know what's going to happen next if it's going to be. You know defaulting to jake dixon or chubby veer. Hey or been there mcphee or somebody like that or if some bigger name is gonna come along and say yeah..

"In the constructors standings do khadi suzuki and will talk about what they've done already. The season am what we can expect heading into the second half not only for the manufacturer but each of their riders as well which means we got quite a bit the talk about so let's get started with do coty and do qadis first. Half of the twenty twenty one motor gp season. It's pretty difficult to describe because really all of the components are there for them more than they ever have been before. The bike is faster in a straight line than it's ever been as evidenced by johann zarco two hundred and twenty five point two mph top speed in qatar. They handling is the best. That's ever been as we saw with their one. Two result in harare says they have wins their podiums and three three of their riders have averaged a top five finish this season and yet despite all of that they trail in the team constructor and rider championships off for one reason because as good as they've been great the bike is looked they haven't been able to consistently beat fabrio quad sharara and it must be frustrating. Because like i said the parts are there and the writers are taking advantage of what g delina company have given them and yet they still need to find a little something more but not to worry because usually as always is working on something as we speak. Delina said that two copies top priority is to improve the decimals corner speed heading into the second half to further. Close that gap to yamaha into zucchini and the handling department. Both through chassis improvements and engine tuning tweaks but also said that. There's something something new coming in october. Some sort of upgrade or addition. But he's not even hinting at what that something is but as you delineate. It could be something insanely while for. All we know so mechanically. The bike is better. They've got new stuff on the way. And they have a plan heading into the second half to try to match fabio coiro and the gamble the experiment to go young with their factory riders. This season seems to be working out incredibly well. So let's talk about those riders. Starting with jack miller who liked to cloudy as a whole had a very interesting season There were the back to back ninth to start the year off in lasalle them. Back to back wins. Once things got to europe and then he's only been on the podium. Once in the last four rounds heading into the break. I don't know if i would call him streaky. But jack certainly hasn't matched fabio quattro rose consistency. And that's been really the only major difference between him and fabio. Because when you add it all up. Jack scott two wins and an average finish of five point zero in the first nine races but he trails coiro by fifty six points simply because he only has three podiums were fabio much more consistent has six and of course more wins to go with it. So jack miller's tasks for the second half of the year are twofold number one get more podiums and seeing his his average finish is fifth. He only has to make up a couple of places to make that happen. The second thing take advantage of every opportunity possible to stop bobbio by finishing in front of him and that is a much more difficult task. The way that coiro is writing the podium. Some not worried about those will take care of themselves. There are definitely podiums ahead for miller in the second half but the critical part is taking full advantage of those do khadi tracks places like sapang if they raise their but more importantly these back to back austrian rounds two zero in austria. Last season was really. What set everything in motion for andrea. Co so to not be a title contender at the end of the year and it really his relationship with duke audi further than it was already broken and so jack can't walk down that same path and i'm not saying that him struggling in austria. Would you know strain his relationship with duke audi. I don't mean that. I mean that these two races for him are just as critical now as the back to back. Australian rounds were for takao county. As a whole and especially andre the vizier also. Last year he's got to come out of the gate strong in the second half if he can't win both of those races which is going to be tough. He needs to find a way to finish in front of fabio in both of those and that will get his second half and his title. Chances off to a much better start now. You could say a lot of the same things about petco back naya because those coty tracks are going to be critical for him down. The stretch is well. he doesn't have the winds. That jack miller has and that will make seem like his season. Hasn't been as strong as jack's but it most definitely has a petco has the same number of podiums as jack miller three and thanks to a much better start low sale and not finishing lower than seventh all season. Long petco actually has a better average finish of four point. Three seven five. And that's why he's actually ahead of his teammate. By a few points in the ryder standings in only one d. n. f. And i think that cannot be understated enough when it comes to the first half of the season for petco back ni- one the nfl is fantastic for a writer that is seen as many gravel traps as bag. Ni- has in his brief motogp career. So petco is quietly stepped up to the next level now he needs to take it one step further and he has to go out there and win and really. Don't see any reason why he can't with the confidence that he built in the first half. He's got room to grow for the rest of the year. He just needs to be careful here though because he is going to need the push a little bit harder to get that win and there's a fine line between pushing and pushing too much ken. Petco back nyah. Win in the second half yeah. I think that he absolutely is capable of winning race. But i think that miller with more experience is a better shot to take a run at the title. Of course the do cadi rider. That has the best shot to make a title push right..

"Factory bike this same type of stuff as fabio guerraro. So whether it's the tires or his age or his mental approach. It doesn't really matter the bike. Ken win races. But it's just not coming anywhere close to happening for. Valentino will continue willie retire. I don't know quite yet. Although i think that retirement is the most likely scenario one way or the other. I'm hoping that ross. He can improve his performance over the second half of the season and it would be very nice to see him be able to give himself an his fans that two hundred career podium as a potential going away present in case he does not come back in twenty twenty two. So as you see there. Even though yamaha is leading the constructor's standings it's certainly isn't just all sunshine and rainbows for the top team in the sport. And when i say top team the sport i am using little finger quotes. So let's move on from first place down to third and next up we're gonna talk about ktm and this has really been a tale of two seasons for ktm pre chassis update and post and the effect of that new frame has been dramatic especially for miguel avera who has emerged as one of the hottest drivers on the grid over the last four rounds the austrian engineers deserve a ton of credit here as does their test rider. Danny padro so they've done a fantastic job. And let's face a case him got caught flat-footed by michelin's tire changes to start the season with their propensity now for asymmetrical offerings just were not getting along with that bike. But ktm worked very hard to overcome the deficit within innovative. Construction method. their three d. printing. Their frames out of steel so they could control material thickness inflex in different parts of the frame and so far. It's worked out brilliantly. You know there was some discussion. After jello that that was simply a mirage it was simply a product of more favorable tire offerings because there was a standard tire available in that race that was in the proper range to go out on track with the kt improved that their gains were more than just luck. In the rounds. That have come since then. So the change of chassis has certainly resulted in a change of fortune to go along with it. When that i think will continue on into the second half of the season and with that. Let's talk about their lead rider. Beguel olivera and the ktm turnaround. Like i said a moment ago has had the greatest effect for me. Gal i mean after breaking through last season with a pair victories. olivera is continuing his upward trajectory. This season already with a win and three podiums. All of course coming after the chassis change in fact if you look at his numbers it is incredible. How drastic. This turnaround was his average finish in the first four races. Thirteen point seven five not even in the top twelve then. He had the dfm france where i believe ktm did have the new frame but they couldn't use it the full effect because of the weather then in the four races after that starting at mugello heading into the break his average. Finish two point five. That's the type of difference that this new frame has had for olivera first four races without it. Thirteen point seven five. The last four races with two point five including victory and three podiums. He's riding with confidence right now and rapidly developing into that number one rider that they lost over the off. Season impulse spago so much. So that like we talked about last week yamaha came calling for potential factory ride next season. Of course. that's not gonna happen now. I don't know if that two point. Five average from the previous four races going carry through the entire second half. But i am very confident that there are more podiums. Miguel oliveras future. And i will not be surprised at all by another victory. Maybe even two. He's seventy one points behind. Fabio quattro yaro and that is a lot to make up especially considering the way the fabio is riding right now so i look at me gal as the type of writer who can influence the outcome of this year's championship as opposed to being a major player for the championship. But you never know mean. He's writing every bit as good as fabio and if quattro rochat tail off a little bit he could be there to take up some of that slack and move into one of those top spots now. Brad bender is a bit more interesting of a case when it comes to i four races and these last four races heading into the break. Bread did a far better job of managing the situation at the beginning of the season. That miguel did brad have multiple top ten finishes when miguel was like i said floundering outside the top twelve but his boost with the latest version of the bike hasn't been nearly as drastic just a position or two of improvement overall. His season long average is in the same place as olivera e point. Six for brad bender. Miguel's eight point one two. But we're miguel really took off. Since mugello benders average has only improved one spot for eight point six to seven point two five so a little over a spot. The main reason for that though is qualifying. That's been by far the biggest issue for brad this year. He's only started two races all season long inside the top ten and he finished both of those races in the top ten as well. The flip side is that he's had a couple of races where he's been able to make up a ton of positions after qualifying incredibly poorly. So i think the potential is there for him to run in the same class as miguel olivera all he really needs to do. Of course you can put this in your pocket and take it back out again. When we talk about suzuki next week. All brad bender needs to do is qualified better and that fact isn't lost on him. I mean he specifically mentioned that his goal in the second half of the year is to start closer the front and if he can. There's no question that there are podiums in his future and he might even be able to get to the top step of the box again as well. Now we move onto the tech. Three riders will start within aleppo chee who is unfortunately in a very similar position to where he found himself last season very likely already on his farewell tour with the bike before he's even gotten to the halfway point of the year and it's not guaranteed announcement has been made and we still don't know one hundred percent what's going to happen with his seat because the guy most likely to take it. Roll fernandez at this. Point is still saying that. He's going to stay motivated to next season. But the thing is danilo isn't really doing very much at all to keep raul fernandez emoto to and to force him to stick to that plan danilo has been slow to adjust to the ktm and as a result he's racked up three d. nfc and an average finish of twelve point. One over the first name races of the season and for writer. That's fighting for his future. That's not really gonna convince a manufacture that your offering them something daddy. Younger moto to rider enroll fernandez. Can i mean. Fernandez can go out there and finished twelfth right but have a lot more upside and a lot more future potential than danilo. Petrucci can finishing in that same spot. Now danila says he's gotten calls from a couple of world superbike teams and that may very well be the route to go for him especially since he's insisting that the ktm is built for a smaller rider and let's face it the fact that he's even saying that doesn't really bode very well for a second half jump in results but what danila should do is he should focus on getting consistently into the top ten if for no other reason to increase his options wherever they may lie and to maximize the possibility that he could remain on the motor gp grid next year. Even though the chances are still small. I'm and then the final is equal. He knows exactly where he's going to be next year in the rare position of moving back from moto. Gp to motoo and doing so willingly and still under the banner of rebulk atm and that certainly is the best route for him to take like last year. He's struggled to find a lot of consistency. He has three..

"So maybe miguel is just pointing it out or maybe who knows a little stick. A little poke maverick's direction. A buddy it is good one way or the other. I think to see yama at least attempting to get a rider like miguel. Who's upside is just huge right now and it would have been the spectacular get for yamaha and in my opinion one of the few writers maybe even the only rider that will be worth risking losing franken morbidelli in the end to go out and get but even with this twenty twenty two contract. You can be absolutely certain that. Miguel olivera is going to be a hotly pursued writer in next year silly season providing that he keeps riding the way he has been the past few rounds on that new. Ktm chassis never pretty good feeling that he will now the majority of you think it is a virtual lock. The franco morbidelli is going to be the rider that gets that factory yamaha seat next season. But jamie not convinced yet. Jamie's not quite sure that franco is going to get that factory seat in the end pointing to the fact that yamaha wasn't willing to change their plan for him. Despite the fact that he won three races and finished second overall last season still insisting instead that he soldier on with an older bike while the obviously waning valentine rossi on the other side of his garage got petronas new equipment instead now. A lot of that had to do with the fact that rossi is while valentino rossi. Obviously and be. The valentino is contracting directly to yamaha. Where morbidelli isn't but yeah it still has serious shades of the johann zarco situation and they were fine. Yamaha was allowing zarko to leave. So maybe the same will be true in the end with frankie although i would think that especially with olivera off the table now that there options have kind of put them in a box where you know that familiar writer in franken morbidelli may not seem like the most mysterious most exciting choice. But certainly it's the ryder that's available. That has the most potential. And honestly i think if yamaha's thinking about it that way that we rather go outside because we want a more exciting choice for that bike they're gonna lose out because morbidelli absolutely has the potential to be as good or almost as good as fabio quarrel. But i think that. Dj has the best solution by far for yamaha in twenty twenty two two words who are hey lorenzo. That's what i'm talking about. Bring it on man. I'm one hundred percent on board with that plan for no other reason but the drum. I don't even care if lorenzo rides that well. Although i'm curious to see how he would do after sitting out for so long but i'm more one in back for what he says before during and after around rather than what he's going to do in the bike so i'm absolutely on board with that i mean they've got fabio quattro road to go after a championship. Let's have some fun. Bring her lorenzo. Back convince valentino rossi. The stick around for another year on his own. Do khadi and let those to go head to head for the old guys championship. Hell why not get lovie in there to put him on the appropriate. Let all three of them go after it and then they can play for the seniors tour. They can win a trophy of a guy in a rocking chair. I'm sure asia and can make an awesome trophy of an old dude wearing your helmet and a rocking chair that we could give to the winner of that competition. All right so there was shockingly some non yamaha stuff. Believe it or not that you guys wanted to talk about. We'll start wish. News bart who linked to an article confirming that enables dini will be getting a twenty twenty one desma ditching next year. So he'll be getting a one year old bike with christine. As opposed to his current two year old offering out of it still remains to be seen how all of the do khadi offerings are going to be handed out. Obviously the factory guys are going to get twenty twenty two bikes. And i cannot imagine that. The pre mac. Riders won't also get the same equipment since they have it this year with vr forty-six signing policy abbadi confirmed that valentino. Rossi's team will be getting one quote full factory bike with support as well as twenty twenty one bike and that would make five current year. Do qadis on the grid would assume. Then that at that point the rossini team would get to twenty twenty one bikes won for best seaney as announced and the other fabio the san antonio since at the end of the year. They're gonna have plenty of 2021 bikes to hand out. So it's hard to imagine the degen san antonio who's contracted to rossini would end up with better equipment than best ya who's contracted directly to khadi and that's good. That means that no bikes on the grid should be older than one year old next season. That means better opportunities and better competition as a result epstein didn't suicide which is a statement of a username for sure Lit up with his fantasy leagues score after ass in one thousand one hundred and sixty points top two percent of all teams not in the league but in the entire game. Now we haven't talked about fantasy leagues for a long time. So we'll do that either on next week show or the episode after that one and by the way. If you've just started listening recently and you don't know this already we've got to fantasy leagues this year One is on sports deck. The other one is on the official motor. gp website..

"Came the omaha thinking he was going to be the number one if not right away then very quickly and that didn't happen and i'm sure he kind of felt like that promise was taken away from him. And instead he had to live in the continuing. Shadow valentino rossi. But he wasn't the only one that was kind of in a state of confusion about this whole thing. I would maintain that yamaha was just as confused as well and they were sending mixed signals at various times giving mavericks opinions more weight and at other times rossi's and at one point a few years back they said. Hey we're going to develop each bike completely separately completely independently and we soon discovered that growing frustration off the track for venezuela's was affecting mavericks performance on the track. That intern created more doubt on yamaha side. And even more frustration on maverick side which he was all too eager to vocalized by offloading. The issues onto the bike and the engineering team and yamaha messed up again there as well because they really gave legs to that they bolstered that idea that the writers should blame it on the bike with that. Incredibly awkward apology thing in two thousand eighteen. Which just encouraged that level of dissatisfaction. Even rossi started to express it more after that and that just bread more inconsistent performance. Out of maverick and it was just a vicious cycle and that kind of kept spiraling on and off all the way until the season. Now we get to this season. Maverick has signed a two year. Deal to stay on with the omaha. Because valentine rossi was moving on. He was stepping aside in on top of that. The two thousand nineteen bike wasn't as bad as seventeen eighteen remember. Maverick signed his contract for this year before the twenty twenty season even started so he wasn't quite sure what kind of bike yamaha was going to hand him so despite those concerns overpass performance. I figure he was far more focused on the idea that the two thousand nineteen bike was moving them in the right direction and more importantly he was finally going to be the clear number. One fabio quattro was still young and he struggled at the end of twenty twenty himself so it was his team. It was mavericks team. But then we get to this year and fabio happened and he didn't just happen but the situation turned out way. Worse for maverick fan jalis. Because unlike rossi who may have been getting favoritism despite the fact that he wasn't performing all that well. Fabio has flipped the script entirely. He's gone out there and not only performed far. Better than valentino. Rossi did but he's also outpaced maverick. By a mile as well and vigna is results have continued to berry just like they always have so. Fabio is quickly grabbing control of the team. A lot of people myself included would say he already has grabbed control of the team and has proven that the bike. Ken be consistently quick. And in the meantime mavericks results are as inconsistent as they ever had so realization. Set in pretty sure. That maverick not wanting to break down his own confidence. Further then down on the idea that yamaha simply didn't care to fix his bike. They didn't care about him which is admittedly a tough argument when his teammate has been fast enough the podium every single race this year he's had weird stuff happened but he's been consistently fast enough to get on the podium had he made it to the end of all the races but in mavericks mind. It has to be the team because it can't be him. I mean from mavericks perspective. Think about it look. Ktm look at look at suzuki. They've all made such great progress since two thousand seventeen. They've saw so many problems and they've had so much more success than they had in the past that when you look at yamaha and comparison it has to be that yamahas simply isn't trying hard enough right. Well yeah on the surface. It can look that way but those comparisons can be very deceptive because yes and have made huge strides but they also had a lot of ground to make up over the past few seasons. Those guys have developed their bikes enough to the point where they've gained seconds on their pace from a few years ago but they started off seconds behind. So you look at that progress and you know you look at yamaha and it looks like they really haven't done anything. I mean casey. I'm has gained seconds. They're winning races now. Apprecia- has gone from you know seconds behind to a couple of tents behind. And what is the omaha done. They've continued to have up and down performance. But you have to remember that yamaha's searching for the final few tents to get them from podium contention to championship contention. They're not looking for seconds. And that's a lot harder to make up those couple of tents just ask apprecia- how much harder it is to get those last couple of tents as it was to get those seconds that they've gained over the last two years and now i'm certainly not saying that yamaha is blameless here that they've been trying extra hard and it's just you know we don't perceive it because they're trying to gain so little. The problems have been consistent. That's for certain. The only thing i'm saying is that their issues are a bit harder to solve than you know the things that ktm and aprilia and suzuki before that we're going to especially right now not being able to revise their engine because obviously that could be a huge help for them right now but they're painted into a corner. There's nothing they can do about it. I'm also want to say that wanting to offload the blame and the frustration onto the manufacturer onto the team. That isn't just a maverick vigna thing. And those of you who've been watching for a long time or even a short time probably don't need me to tell you that all moto. Gp riders have big egos. So they're not going to be too eager to point the finger at themselves because whether it's true or not it's just not a productive thing for them mentally to emit that they're the ones that aren't quite getting it so you take all of them put it together and by the way that is unfortunately the short version and the situation is in the good one normally. Both rider and team would swallow their words at this point. Wait things out to the end of the contract but the precedent that was set by guys like cal. Crutch. low and sam lows in the past and then reinforced more recently was johann zarco and lorenzo. The prevailing opinion is now become. Hey you don't like each other tear up the contract and move on but that of course then begs the question. Is this the right. Move for maverick vandalism and the answer here is well. Yes in no it. Just kinda depends. My opinion is in the end if it really wasn't working out between the two and they both agreed upon that then there are other writers out there for yamaha. There other bikes out there for venezuela's ultimately works out best for everyone. If they're working with the people in the equipment that they feel most comfortable with rather than suffering through one another if that is indeed what things have come to. But there's more to it than that because while yes everything works out better if everyone's getting along that's not the goal of modo. Gp especially for someone like maverick than y'all and the level of talent and potential he has. The goal is to win races is to win championships and is to have a successful career and the best way to do that is to be on the best. Bikes maverick is now going to be leaving one of the best bikes in the garage. Because say what you will about yamaha struggles over the past few years. Maverick certainly has. And he's not the only one..

"fabio quattro" Discussed on MotoWeek - MotoGP, Motorcycle and Racing News

"The website at mode week dot net. All right here. We go the rundown just about everything. We're going to talk about on this episode of the show. I said it was going to be all about maverick in the omaha thing. But there's actually one other thing you guys answered a couple of my questions about ass and weekend. I'll give you the answers incorrect. Something that said on the post show then. We will talk about the bombshell. Although it's not really a totally unexpected bombshell but still. Huge news maverick. Daniela's leaving yamaha at the end of twenty twenty one. We'll talk about health. Things got to this point. Whether maverick is making the right decision where he's going to go next and who's going to replace him with a cameo discussion of valentina rossi and how this might affect his plans for twenty twenty two and throughout the entire conversation. We're going to talk about some of your comments that you made on facebook and read about all of this yamaha drama but before we get to that. There were two things from sm weekend that you guys correct me on them. Really correct me. I just wasn't exactly sure what the answers were. And you sent me straight on the fabio celebration after his win in asan with his terrible terrible attempt to hit a golf ball with a driver although it hey did create some cool sparks and be in his defense. He wasn't full on leathers and helmet but it turns out. The entire thing was goof on a friend of his that he posted from the driving range earlier in the week repeatedly missing the ball and so he was doing the same thing. And i didn't know about that. Plus it was his fourth win. So you know for if you're playing golf and apparently that's fabio's new thing right about now So thanks to soggy. Wombat on reddit em robin over on facebook for that one. I was clearly not in a golf frame of mind when i did the post ratio on sunday and then when it comes to maverick then y'all as and the settings that he was using last week because going into the weekend he said he was going to use nothing. But fabio quattro rose settings. And that's it. It's always kind of wondering afterwards. Who's setting see finished. Second with his own or with fabio's on amd both nuno on facebook and alpha octane. On it set me straight on that one of mavericks. Two bikes one started the weekend. Set up with his own settings. The other one set up with fabio settings ended up choosing his own as his preferred bike. And that's the one he used to set the lap record in qualifying and also the one. He used the finish second in the race so that either makes the situation even more perplexing that he was actually using the same settings that he had on the bike when he finished dead last in germany the week before that or confirms how sensitive either maverick himself or the m one is to grip levels at the track because as an is a bit grippier quite a bit grippier than the saxon ring is at least with his setup in the way that he's writing it seems to be very sensitive to the grip levels but that does bring us to the main topic of discussion for today's show and the bombshell of twenty twenty one four shore. It is official maverick. Daniela's is done with the omaha at the end of the twenty twenty one season and that was really quick. Wasn't it just two days. After the rumors started circulating around the paddock and one day after looking like someone pissed in his cornflakes standing on the podium yamaha confirmed that at the request of maverick than y'all as they have cancelled the final season of his two year contract. Meaning that mave is officially a free agent for the twenty twenty two season and it also means that yamaha is officially looking for another factory rider for next year. Now obviously this leads to a ton of questions. And i'm sure i'll miss at least a few of them here so let me know what we still need to talk about after the show on facebook and read it. But let's start briefly at the beginning of mavericks relationship with yamaha. And i think that setting that back story will be helpful to those who may have only started watching mo- jp in the past couple of years and maybe don't know how everything started. We won't go back to suzuki. We'll just start with yamaha because we've talked the past couple of weeks about this whole debacle starting with saxon ring but it definitely goes back beyond that and i'm going to attempt here to look at things a little bit from both sides from maverick side and from yamaha side up at the short version of the story. And i'm going to try to keep it short. When maverick signed on to come over to yamaha in two thousand seventeen from suzuki a bike that he had won their first race since their return on and clearly looked like a promising championship contender of the future. The idea behind yamaha signing him was that he was going to be the next major superstar. The next great yamaha contender. And the one that would ultimately receive the torch of yamaha's future from valentino rossi. And things really started out that way he looked great in preseason testing and even better when the two thousand seventeen season got underway when he got on the bike and won his first two races on the m one and everyone. I'm sure including maverick. Daniela's thought that everything predicted would come. True yamaha finally had their contender there challenger for marc marquez. That was going to break. That dominance and bring yamaha back to the top but just as quickly as it started there were stumbles. The yamaha having intermittent issues with rear grip. with top speed. And that's something that both factory. Riders agreed upon the thing. here though. Is that valentino. Rossi seemed to handle those issues a bit. More consistently than maverick did and then when the doctor one in essen later on that season which turned out to be yamaha's final victory of two thousand seventeen. Well it kind of felt the rest of the year like the two riders were more or less equals than. You know maverick fan. Y'all is was here to storm to the championship. Take the crown and the number one. Slot away from valentino rossi and then when rossi got off to a slightly stronger. Start the maverick david in two thousand eighteen. It really reinforced the idea. That valentino was handling the issues better and as a result the needle of influence that we thought was going to start swinging firmly tour. Maverick than y'all as after his first few races had gone all the way. Back towards rossi. Now there are definitely arguments. About how everything i just said went down and how much yamaha was giving preference to rossi over venezuela's but i think that the point here is that when the knowle's came on board the whole idea was that he was going to be. The one that team was ultimately built around the valentina rossi was getting old he was getting ready to retire. He was going to pass the crown along. And the team was gonna be about maverick. But when the performance issue started right away and rossi seemed to be dealing with those issues. Better the maverick. It really threw everything into turmoil. And yes the sphere of influence did shift back firmly. Valentine rossi and i think for two reasons number one because maverick wasn't performing like marquez. Was at the time and number two yamaha was uncertain. There was this new rider and they weren't quite sure whether they were the problem whether the writer was the problem. And so you go back to what safe. And what's safe is valentina rossi. Because he's the guy who had been there he's the guy with the experience with all of the winds and the records and the championships so yamaha looked to him more for ideas not just on setup more importantly on how the battle through the struggles that they were having with the michelin tyre which was problematic from the instant they put it on that bike so the takeaway here is the mavericks in..
