I encourage you to get your get yourself familiar with because they do a lot of cool work. Know how are you So nice to hear from you? I'm June. Great. Thank you so much for having me. I'm glad you joined us. I know you've got a million things going, so I appreciate you making the time to chat today. So tell me what is new and exciting. It read. Write Library, Chicago. Sure. So in normal non pandemic times. What we do is where community library but on Lee focusing on Chicago media, so we have the kinds of publications that you wouldn't find in the public libraries or school libraries. It's all the history of Chicago is told by the people who live here. Um, in pandemic times those since we've had to shut our doors and haven't had all the field trips we have and haven't been able to have people coming in for research. We've really started operating as a donation has on the West side for supplies for folks, especially for breaks Case lines. And tell me a bit about brave space alliance in the work that they do and how that interacts with with the work that you do. Absolutely so great Space Alliance is an incredible organization that they are a black translated organization that supports, uh, queer folks on the South and West sides. And What they've been doing since the pandemic hit and then also since the uprisings and process the summer is, um Creating an entire crisis Chantry program to collect baby supplies and canned food and coats. Um, toiletries and all the other things that people really need. On the Southwest side. She lived their best life. For us. You know, we've we've worked with him a member of times before and when we saw they were doing this on the Southside got in touch with him immediately and said, Hey, do you need a Westside location and He said 100% Absolutely. How fast can you get there? And so I ran across humble park where we're located and we opened up as their Westside donation hub. About half an hour after that, and that was in the first week of June. How half hour later. That is some community action in action right there. Now that's pretty serious. It is the first few months were doing the seven days a week eight hours a day with an amazing volunteer turned out. Now we are kind of getting back into our our regular hours at the library, but we're still gonna be open permanently, even after the pandemic to be a donation hub for bread space. So this will be ongoing. This partnership Excellent. Yes, And so for people who maybe don't know, tell me a little explain a little bit of kind of the origin story of the library and how it came to be, because I think it's such a fascinating place that that more people should be aware of. Yeah. So we are currently the only library of its kind in the world. We are looking to change that. We've been around almost 15 years now, which is kind of mind blowing. Um, it started when I had no idea when I was 23. Tol have a place where folks working in different arts and political in neighborhood just planes could come together and just kind of see what everyone else was doing and working up. And I can't really get me once she started with me. So, um A friend put together just kind of an email out to a few of their friends to say, Hey, what do you think about this? Let's get together at a coffee shop and talk it out. One of those friends was enter Hus to ran Capers Blocks, which was one of Chicago's earliest city blog's, Um, and they must take it for a press release, um, published it. The Raiders picked it up. "This is Marcia who's in evergreen park Marsha good morning you're on WG hi I have a seventy five year old house and it's it's a had a beautiful flagstone walkway from the sidewalk up to front stairs to the front door and mother died about ten years ago and this walkway was so beautiful that people would stop and ask you know Hey we'll get it they ring the doorbell some trying to get the blood work well about three years after he died a friend why power washer and he offered to wash the flagstone I didn't know any better and I said sure go head yeah wonderful look good for a while now in the last years it has become a kind of black and different it to hold the dirty doesn't clean up right and about two years after that power washing I remembered that my mother said and don't do that take care of that flagstone and anyway there was no way to undo the power washing well I do now regenerate all right there's also a bay window you know it's one foot high layers of slag stone you know certain bushes and how it's beautiful overall when you look at the walkway it's still sound right now the words the stones other than the discoloration the stones look okay yeah well except where the grass dies you run your own machines across halfway across that walk it has broken into cpops okay we need only to tell him to stop doing that but here's what I would do your I just read a commercial recently about a product called wet and forget yeah I work at the garage at somebody's house okay you too but it took awhile a hundred right right let me forget so they make it since you have recitation on both sides I would go by the gallon bottle of it and you're going to you that's a concentrate because yeah they make a hose in product first reaching in spring up high but because you have grass on either side you have to be very careful with the stuff you can't you can't you can't over sprayed under the vegetation so you're going to wet down the grass first right with water and then you're gonna take a pump sprayer with this concentrate your going to spray it over the top end over end and really cold this really well and is this walkway that people you know use still to this day yeah okay right so you know to be a great thing to do you know after the mail carrier comes because we want to keep people off of it as it sets in and then in about a month you're going to see it start to chew up in a positive way the organic material the times flagstone and then after a month I would re treated again and it works with the rain and the wind and I think that if you do this it will bring that it'll bring that flagstone back to life and and and you should work out so try that wet and forget that should work out just fine for you thanks so much for the phone call let's talk with Joan who's in Naperville Hey John you're on WG and good morning good morning Lou my son and daughter in law are building a new home in a suburb of baton Rouge my son wants to put one of those for coatings in his garage you know the kind of bumpy and multi step you any recommendations on a product he could use an approximate coding I guess that's what it's called you know they look I don't know my neighbor did want it yeah well I mean the bumpy part that you're talking about typically tends to be something that gets professionally done because it's a layered process and those they actually they sprayed down layer after layer after layer the other a proxy coatings you can buy like that rust oleum makes those have a texture to them were you you you it's like a flake that you put down but it isn't as it is N. as textured as what you're describing now I will tell you that you know Lydia it down in baton Rouge these proxy coatings do much better and perform much better because they don't have the freeze thaw that we have up here so you know from a long jeopardy and and you know the material lasting longer they certainly have the ability to do that there and and if he wants to do it himself I would look at the rust oleum line it's under I believe they're rock solid brand that they that they use that you should be able to to find a pretty easily down there and he can do it as well thanks so much for the phone call it's nine fifty one in the morning quick break we'll be back right after this right.

Hey, tyler. Spark. We'll say I've got a question for you. In the cubs shuttered. The cubs. Don't win the World Series this year. Joe man will be fired by the new year. But I get where you're going contra would be up. So he would just agree to part ways. But if whether he'll manage the cubs or not if they don't make a deep playoff run not convinced to the NFL. To the World Series. If and they could get their Joe Girardi lost his gig in New York didn't come back and they got to the game lost his gay game. Seven. The. He was fired. I definitely think like it is an issue for. And it's not really an issue. But like, I think millennials need to get over the fact that like license high-speed we need a slow down a little bit. So I definitely don't think baseball should change by any means. I think it's perfect the way it is. Thanks, man. Appreciate you listening. Thank you, Kip. Three one two three three two.

"So I will not have a doughnut. Oh, oh. You just live just brought some of the newsroom, I feel bad. They're everywhere. But any veterans stop by crispy cream, a new one just opened in hillside, which is dangerously close to me. Evergreen park home would and crispy cream. Celebrates veterans on Sunday, November eleventh, it seems like every year when I do my no sugar fifty days that for some reason it always coincides with people bringing donuts and ice cream and drinks of some sort. How you how? Well, I don't Bill. I know it's so tempting just like McDonald's French fries. Yeah. Those are to smell them. You gotta get 'em popcorn at a movie theater. No, I sometimes I'll just stop. And I'll just let the whiff take me away just smell it. It's so good the popcorn in the early days of radio and Steve could jump in on this. So could marry really, okay. When you know microwave popcorn was first invented people in radio, especially people who worked the night shift or early morning would pop some and the whole premises smelled like popcorn. But that bother you know, I love that. Or if it burned. Yeah. That was bad was too much. All the time in the old place because the microwave result, they were bad. Violeta podrumedic was eating popcorn the other day right on camera. I like watching her what she calls it a pop cash where once a week, she just sits in front of a camera needs popcorn people love it. But now after watching Violeta eat it I figured out why it's called popcorn 'cause she was taking one Colonel at a time and just popping it in her mouth. I didn't know it was I had to see what it was. And she said I'm trying to hide it because everyone gets mad when I make popcorn. Is that still the case? I would they get mad because you smell it. And you want it you gotta have it. I have popcorn every night on Thursdays. Wait, wait. Wait. Wait. For just a second. How did that? How did that come to be because I'm talking about how everybody wants it in my house. It's like my dinner where I sit and I watch survivor from the night before glass of wine and popcorn. And my son comes home, and he's like can I know you can't have any share. I am terrible. I have my big bowl that I use it. Bob Collins gave me years ago. Like twenty years old my popcorn ball. And it's a Thursday night tradition is for me. It's like my time. My husband tries to steal it. My son tries to. I won't let them remember when jiffy pop was it was so cool. Why was I so impressed that the foil ball got bigger? I think it's because like now we live in an era where on your phone. You can do anything in the world that you want to do just by touching a button or two on your phone, but back then it was such a novelty to watch the jiffy pop thing to what did you are? You there to watch the jiffy pop just go off. I remember when we would have a babysitter. That's when we were allowed to have jiffy pop other times, we could not right so reasonable babysitter. Made it okay to have jiffy pop, and we would count the minutes until we can have jiffy pop their babysitter. You still had to shake the jiffy, right? It had a handle shake. "Lapses in awareness and even want to in their own end. Do Saint Louis is gonna come out hard. But at least Patrick Kane, and Artem Anisimov, if kind of teamed up here to at least create a little bit of doubt in a team that probably has a lot of doubts in the back of their mind that line has been really good tonight. Every time that they've been on the ice. It seems like they're changing the the tide of what's going on. And then all of a sudden. Saint Louis is coming back. Blackhawks is you kind of alluded to it there. Chris the Blackhawks structure in their own in the ace broke down. So many times in that second period. The same thing has happened in the first period. I mean, they got us to tighten up a little bit. And they don't find a way to defend against Saint Louis better owned on the flip side there. You gotta keep attacking. I mean, you can see that. You're getting opportunities against the team that doesn't have a lot of confidence in how they play around their goaltender in their goaltender. Jake Ellen L is out of the game. Chad Johnson, I would assume is gonna come in there. Maybe Jay gallons gonna shake off that hit from his own team teammate come back into it. But Blackhawks better shore up what they need to do defensively and start getting on their toes heading towards the other end of the ice more often. All right time now for ask Troy approved by team hockberg at Perl mortgage. Visit WGN David dot com. And this is a question probably your booth visitor Kelly. Chase can help you answer a Bob from evergreen park. In a recent interview, Columbus coach John Tortorella described the Kerr. Current NHL as a quote hug fest. Do you think today's game has gone soft that according to Bobbitt evergreen park while it's different. There's no question. And and. Everybody knows that it's a different game in the way that it was played in the in the seventies. The broad street bullies the eighties nineties that game is no longer here. You're looking at a speed game. It's just a it's a different mentality of how you play the game in the way, it is could you can't slow the game down anymore. The enforcers of the game have been phased out of it fighting as way down doesn't happen. Very often. Tertre L is talking about is not necessarily the fighting the compete level in in the hips. The physicality th the nastiness that to me should still be involved in the game. This is the game a hockey. It's it's it's not a game to be played. As a hug fast game. And then you got it legitimately kinda hate your opponent. And make sure that till you come prepared to play. And even though we might know the guy you're still going down with them and be friends with them after the game. You know, he's talking about the way that the game is right now, the, you know, there's there's. You're not looking at players in the is to challenge him in those kinds of things. And and and I agree with them. It's it's part of the game. The game has gone into a huge transition. It's played differently. You can't slow the game down the game was played faster than it's ever been played in its history was no question about that the athletes are better trained. They skate for thirty five seconds out there as fast as they can next line gets out there. So it's a different game. There's no question. In anybody's mind that it's a different game. I don't know if it's if the right words to the hug fest right now, but that's a different game. Yes. It's not the game that I played when I was in the NHL. It's not the game that Kelly. Chase played this is that the new game here and you have to make the adjustments. And I think that sometimes coaches in Puerto Rico is one of those guys it's still believes in you know, what a team and how the game a hockey should be played hard nose and in your face of the opponent. And he's not seeing that enough on a regular basis throughout the entire league. Probably not even on his team that he is challenged a couple of times, and they came out and played well in that game against Saint Lucia the night, certainly not a hug fast between Blackhawks blues fans down there. I'm sure Troy, thanks. We'll talk to you in the post game. If your question is selected to be read on.
