"AB sports I'm Josh rowntree, major news Wednesday in college basketball is for the first time in nearly 5 decades. Syracuse will have a new head coach, more from correspondent Dave ferry. Basketball coach Jim beheim said at a news conference Wednesday that it was up to Syracuse to decide whether he returns for a 48th season. The school quickly responded by announcing that assistant Adrian Autry is replacing beheim, who was second on the all time wins list for division one coaches. I've been lucky. To be able to do it. I think that's, out of the score, a lot of points in my career and I hit big shots. I'm just trying to do what I can to help the team win. So it was nice to make some shots and make some plays, but it's even better when it comes in a win. The Cavaliers got by the heat one O four 100 as Evan mobley says defense led the way for Cleveland. I feel like we played pretty good defense. We were in our spots. Sometimes shooters got out. And we followed the shooters. We could do a little bit better with that. And then also them driving middle, but overall I feel like we did a good job. And Boston smashed Portland one 1593, Jason Tatum had 30. Al Horford added 17. I was just really early on taking with the defense was giving me the way they were playing me and guy found me early and I was able to get into a rhythm really early. And on the ice, the wild top the jets four two behind 46 saves for Mark Andre flurry. I thought you guys defended Walt, you know, everybody covered the metal to slat a lot of it. Jokic has triple-double, Nuggets beat Cavaliers 115-109
"Nikola Jokić had another triple double and Michael Porter junior scored a team high 25 points in the nuggets, one 15 one O 9 victory at Cleveland. Jokic delivered 24 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists for another MVP type performance. He has 22 triple doubles this season, including 13 in his last 16 games. He impressed head coach Michael Malone. When the MVP goes out and puts up a triple double, that means he's impacting the game at a high level across the board. Garland delivered 32 points and 11 assists after learning Thursday he wasn't selected to the midwinter classic. We got other games to play. "So I would very strongly, if they're going to go down the road of a rebuild, I would move him if I was them. If there's a silver lining, it's a lot of these rookies and free agents we've got an opportunity and more opportunity, but he was starting anyway. He had 26 and 7 against Cleveland. He scored more than 20 points once during the 12 years he was at Alabama. He shooting 37% from three when you and I were like, Matt, you could only shoot. He's just more of a super sized to a player version that we saw in Tuscaloosa and now it's here. It's the NBA and he's 23 years old and maybe this is another guy that you us we have to take longer looks on prospects with translatability despite the age because I don't care that he's 23. We're talking about he's a starting guy in the NBA and they race about 23 and rape about him in the franchise. And then you look at his pick. He's picked 35th. Here's picks 35 to 38. Herb Jones, miles McBride, JT Thor, IO the sumo. Those are NBA starters. So like picks late in the draft also still matter. Like you gotta evaluate they're not throwaway picks and he was a good guy identified and he fits everything that they're trying to do there. Like him a lot. Yep, I like him a lot too. Both you and I had him as a first rounder, I think in the process. Go crazy. Yeah, late first, yeah. We really like them. We thought he made a ton of sense for a lot of teams. It's funny. Like, frankly, the team he's on in New Orleans. I don't know how much sense he makes for them long term because their most important player is Zion and for Zion to be at his utmost success level. Probably need to surround him with a lot of shooters. And while herb Jones is shooting 37% from three right now, that's going to be his swing scale in terms of does he stay as a long-term piece in New Orleans or does it all make sense for him? So operand Schengen, do you want to talk about him very quickly? He's been great as a conservative facilitator, crazed ball handler for a big, I don't know what you do with him defensively right now. I don't I'm so sick of seeing his per hundred possessions or 36 minutes stats. I don't want to I don't want to see him anymore. It's not real life. He's shown some really nice flashes too. He is great footwork like a ballerina feet in that he spins. He drives. He.

"Has really mobile hips number one and he can react to ball handlers in a way that's really impressive. I sent you a clip of him from their game against Charlotte where miles bridges and you can go on like these video sites and I'll try to post a clip of him like elite ball handlers attacking him. Like, in open space on an island like Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, miles bridges was trying to attack him downhill and you could just see like miles is a super athlete. And Evan was like reacting and turning in real time really quickly and not getting blown by, which is really impressive for a guy his size. I think he just has this ability to play conservatively and not get out of position. You know what I mean? You'll see some of these really athletic guys just jump to the moon and get out of position, like nerlens, Mitchell Robinson. He's very advanced on that front. Yeah, it's funny you mentioned that talking about comparing an athletically. And I always look at it like a lot of young guys. They come in the league and they can get to like a hundred, but sometimes it's like they're going fast, but they don't know where they're going. Mobile, it's just like he's cruising on 80 the whole time. I think the best line for that, Charles Barkley always says these young guys come on the league and they think, oh wow, I can jump over buildings. When they become good is, when they realize, oh, actually, I can just take the elevator to the top floor. I don't have to jump all the way. Mobile already does that. He's already got that ability to stop and change speeds. He's such a smooth player. And that's what to me when I first watched him in college. I love the most about him. I love watching smooth players, like your team max, your KDs. It's like, they don't have to always go to 95 because they're going 70 constantly. And so I really need to do. And mobile already has that in his game. And the number that's crazy is I think it's something like his foul rate and his block crater like identical, which never, ever, ever happens. Usually it's like Jaron Jackson junior, where he blocks a ton of shots, and he has a ton of fouls, and he has to learn how to block without fouling. Mobile already has that. Yeah, I think that that point you made is a really, really good one. And what you're talking about with smoothness, I think, is like, you see like latency, I call it info lag, sometimes with big guys where they aren't understanding what's happening. And you see them get out of position. I would always joke about Nick Richards who I root for at Kentucky. He was a guy who there you go, there's your first one. But he's just an example of somebody who would be trying to process the game and you saw this a little bit with 8 and people would be like, oh wait and slow, ate this. He's that. And if you really pay attention, you'd be like, no, he's thinking. He's just, but Matt efficiency and master you're kind of go hand in hand, I think when you're watching NBA players, like when you watch Luke come into the league offensively, he was very smooth, because he was processing the game in real time. He wasn't confused, he never looked overwhelmed. Mobly right now is second in the NBA and contesting two point shots. He's really raised Cleveland's defensive floor. He's been really impressed on that front. We could talk about him to the cows come home on that side of the ball. One thing I think worth pointing out to as you talked about that, and I remember thinking coming into the season, I wasn't sure how the mobley Allen thing would work and because they're both not really floor spacing bigs. And that's where it's really well. I think primarily because mobly is so smart. Some of the big the big passes he makes are absolutely unbelievable. This guy is, there was a pass against the bucks you sent me, where he's dribbling it on his left hand and he left hand passes it to Allen in the lane. And it's like, this is insane. This is not something a 20 year old should ever be doing. At 7 feet tall. And on that front, he is ahead of Anthony Davis. I think as a potential, like his upside, there's a word, take a drink. I will say that one a lot. His upside as a creator, I think, is higher than Davis's. I think Davis is more of like a score on his own island. Now, Davis can't pass. I just think that mobley has a lot of potential on that front. And little detail here, the person that he attacked with his left hand and made that one handed left hand pass was drew Holliday. This guy is a big with a 7 four wingspan. I think he can kind of see how long his arms are sometimes on like in the way he shoots. He's got sort of an awkward load up, follow through. But he offensively he's been pretty impressive among rookies he's third in scoring second and total rebounds, but he's first in blocks. I think you're a 100% right about the Jared Allen Evan mobley thing. I think Lowry's interesting too. Their lineups are interesting. But you said you had a nickname for Jared Allen and Eva mobile. And i think his his situation is really interesting because he did not sign the extension and i wonder how much he will be going outside of the offense or what's best for the team for his own statistics We will see. I'll be monitoring that as the cavaliers correspondent open flora cavaliers correspondent for this entire season. But you know. I mentioned earlier. Evan moberly as a you know. Just a tenacious defender honestly. If i'd like a vote. Though for defensive player of the year jared allen would be on my ballot so soon in the season now. That's ridiculous thing to say. But he is the way he is like the rim protection and everything that is known for but like he's switching out on guys and just stifling them like moving his feet using his leg not getting beat on globe is when he does get blow by sees contesting from behind blocking shots. This week on ten transfrom early in the season but i believe it was the market in allen. Mobile front court has a ninety eight defensive rating. And but it's funny because i think when they drafted nobly house is going gonna work like they wanna sign allen to this big extension or these two guys gonna sense. Go there. long-term league play small cetera. And it's just vid outstanding to watch them work. It's been outstanding to watch them work. They're really good on with you. It's a fun team. "It's like a disney movie. It's like oh. We put like the two tall german kids on the same team. Like this is a. I don't know there's some kind of the movies called like foreign exchange in. It's like to tall brothers. Like playing on the disney literally the disney teen the orlando magic Their their mother was interviewed during a magic game. Recently i think it was magic hornets and it was just a great interview and she's like a freelance journalist in germany. And i'm like you're like what is even happening. Okay so A couple other steals christopher day dude duarte's gunderman. He's twenty four years old which isn't buying. I am kind of. Frankly not ages on this podcast. Not at all He's his oldest. Chris harring so just its incredible production that we've seen for many leads all rookies with eighteen and a half points. A game takes a lot of really semi ridiculous shots Not the maker. But it's like he's he's not inefficient so far and i love that he's just rick carlisle. I love that. He's playing for carlisle. It's very cool that carlisle's not does not have a tight leash on him either. And it's just like okay. We need this kind of the spunk team. Frankly the pacers. I haven't i. I watched a couple of the first two games. Haven't checked in on them in a minute but is just a. I think that that's that safely qualifies as a steel. Because it's gonna be a solid. "He doesn't have the like the zip anymore that he used to on those late game plays where like not to take anything away from caruso but he can be stopped in an isolation. Yeah trying to also. Sometimes you watch somebody guard. You know a high pick and roll rabaul screen. Whatever and you're like. How do you really fight over a pick etc you know. Sometimes there's such little you can do Sometimes someone's just such a good screen etcetera but then you watch someone like caruso and you see him fight through every screen. Stay in front of his. It's it's incredible to watch. I mean there's some guards who really really good at it him. Kyle lowry and fred vanfleet. I remember in that celtics playoff series in the bubble. It was incredible watching them how high they would pick up guards and fight over screens etc like there are some guys who do it in remind you that it is possible way. And what. what is that separation between You know solid defenders in great defenders. And i think careers great defender. So i wanna talk for two seconds about The warriors grizzlies game which was also awesome green. Great game Without looking. I don't know if you have the box score front if you do not look at it.
